Your eyes widen, and the ball of yarn bursts open. Tattered Fibers rain down as a human body lands firmly on the floor, crouched low and body emitting steam.

The figure raises their head, and you take a fearful step back.

"Anaru...?"

"Not quite, my dear," Ragyo chuckles, moving over to place a hand on "Anaru's" shoulder. His body is immediately wrapped in the attire you last saw Anaru in, the colors inverted: a white raincoat with a blue scarf.

He rises, and looks in your eyes.

And he smiles at you.

Anaru...Anaru is back. He's there, waiting for you.

NO!

"That's not him, is it?"

"No, dear," Ragyo replies, motioning for him to join your side. "Merely a stand-in, a much better replacement."

"You said I would have Anaru back," you growl. You can't help it, you can't do anything about the cracks in your mask. The contempt just slips through.

But Ragyo simply laughs, giving you an apologetic look.

"Of course you will...provided the being behind me doesn't suck him dry and leave him an empty, useless husk. It's more than likely, so I created a...contingency. Let this Anaru serve loyally at your side as you carry the Kiryuuin legacy on your shoulders."

Ragyo then gives you a dismissive wave and resumes staring at the Primordial Life Fiber. You take that as your cue to leave and drag Nui out of there.

And the fake Anaru follows not far behind.

When the three of you finally reach the helipad, you stop.

Let's assume that Evil Anaru is actively relaying information back to Ragyo through Life Fiber magic.

In the event that we bring him along Ragyo could possibly gather information about the rebellion and the preparations made. We could also potentially distract Evil Anaru and Ragyo by feeding them false information.

If we dismiss him outright then Ragyo immediately knows that something is up and is instantly much more suspicious of us.

If we bring him along there's at least a slim chance that we won't get made. If reject him then that slim chance almost instantly disappears.

Some I come back a few days after having time from my new busy work schedule and I must say, I'm quite pleased with the turn of events. I really wanted both Nui and Fate to become our allies and things are looking up now.

I especially liked that Nui got really hands on with Satsuki in the bath, assisting her in coming to a better understanding of her feelings for Anaru.

"Nui, Anaru," you say, looking at the two of them. "Let's go home."

"Yeah," Anaru says with a smile. You do what you can to stem the hatred in your gut as it threatens to overtake you, somehow managing to return his smile.

Nui looks surprised. She'd hung back, intending to watch you leave.

"Come, Harime Nui. You will be accompanying me as well."

"But why? I don't-"

"You won't be alone anymore."

You extend a hand out towards her, and she walks over to you. She slowly extends her own hand and takes yours.

All while Anaru watches, silent and still. His blue scarf whips around madly as the rotors on the helicopter start to spin, and you lead Nui into the helicopter while he follows closely behind. Just like that, you're on your way home.

It's dark, so very dark outside. You hate meeting with her so late at night, but Ragyo's word has always been absolute. That's all well and good; she can do as she likes, and you'll do as you like.

At some point during the ride Nui went and laid her head down on your lap, quickly falling asleep. You pat her head affectionately and continue to stare out the window, occasionally glancing over at "Anaru."

The Life Fiber abomination appears to be sleeping as well, his chest rising and falling normally. But you're smarter than that. You know not to let your guard down. You stare outside again for a few minutes, Nui's sleep mumbles vastly improving your mood and nearly eliciting a giggle from you.

You turn your head back, and he's awake.

Scary. Scary, scary, scary. He looks and acts and sounds just like Anaru, but you know he is not. You know he is not. He absolutely is not the real Anaru.

You must never forget that.

"How are you feeling?" He asks, voice laden with concern.

The storm hits, and you experience some minor turbulence as the helicopter flies through. Amidst the shaking and the sound of creaking metal, you and this fake Anaru stare at one another in total silence. Nui's head bounces in your lap a little bit, the sudden movement threatening to wake her.

After a moment, you decide to respond with the sole purpose of discouraging any further conversation.

"I am well, but hear this: keep your concerns to yourself. You should be more focused on your own well-being."

You look out the window. You look away and you block out those words and you grind your teeth together. If you don't, you'll probably bite your lip right off with the force of your anger.

How vile. Is this even an iota of the depths to which Ragyo will sink? Going so far as to make the creature outright lie to you and intentionally twist your feelings?

Even after all this time, it would seem that Ragyo still does not fully comprehend who you are or what you are capable of. Good.

You will show her, and this changeling, the depths of your wrath. All in due time.

"Thank you," you reply coldly. The fake Anaru sighs and looks out of his window, expression downcast.

Lies. All lies.

The journey is far too long and oozing with tension, but at long last you land on the Academy's helipad. Waking Nui takes a little longer than is convenient, but her little yawn and droopy-eyed face almost make it worthwhile.

Finally you leave that vehicle and the imposter behind. Of course, he jumps out and tries to catch up, but you're already at the doors by the time he even gets ten feet from that machine. You open the door and let Nui go in first, about to follow when suddenly there's a hand on your shoulder. You're quickly spun around and thrown against the glass, eyes wide as Anaru leans forward with a dangerous expression.

"You belong to me," he hisses, eyes glinting dangerously. "Don't forget it."

Your hand flies to Bakuzan so quickly you swear the world just stopped.

But your hand only meets his flesh. Your palm rests atop his own hand.

He's fast. Much faster than you.

"My beautiful little phoenix," he sighs, reaching up to stroke your cheek. "One day soon, you will know the pleasure of being worn by clothing. And on that day, you will beg to burn with me. To lose your honor for me."

Your hand flies up to your neck and he doesn't expect it, surprised as you activate Junketsu and rip the Bakuzan out of his grasp. Like a vengeful whirlwind you twirl in place, swinging the sheathed sword into his head and sending him flying away in a corkscrew. His body slides against the wet concrete and you draw the blade, ready to kill.

Droplets of water splash against the frigid metal, grouping together and moving as one down the length of the blade as you point it at your wretched new lover.

He laughs and rises to his feet, brushing himself off despite the rain. A flair for the dramatic, just like his better half.

"That's more like it," he chuckles, walking over to you...and right on past you.

"I think I'm going to like it here. Thanks for the warm welcome, Satsuki-chan."

You curse into the wind as he enters the lounge without waiting for you. Left behind in the rain, you deactivate Junketsu and return Bakuzan to its place at your left side.

You pinch the bridge of your nose and barely hold back the tears.

"Anaru," you whisper into the wind.

I'm just wondering which would be a worse visit to Fate while he's restrained, powerless, and afraid.
