>Recap
The Witcher Garland has come to the town of Loredge to discover the source of a mysterious set of disappearances. After some searching he has determined there are at least two culprits, a supernatural creature that hides at an island out in the bay, and the merchant captain Hermenegildo. The latter was recently deprived of his life for his crimes of slavery, and likely rape and murder. Now the hunt for the other monster behind this plot begins.

Finally awake for one of these.

So I will just say, nice quest, yo.
>>
“You’ll only turn me over to the Captain yes? Your kind only kills monsters… yes?” squealed the piggish man as he lay at the Witcher’s mercy, the fine edge of the knife pressed so tightly to his thick throat that when he spoke a bead of blood oozed over the silvery steel.

“Yes Mr Delgado, I only kill monsters.” And with those final words he let his blade slide across the fat throat of the merchant, listening as the man’s sobs turned to whimpers, and then to gurgles as he choked on his own blood. Their eyes never broke contact, not until the merchant’s rolled back into his skull with one final bubbly “gluchd” sound escaping his crimsoned lips. The deed was done, this monster would never harm another.

This was where we left off our tale of Garland the Witcher, and what an ending it had been. Even telling it now gives me shivers. Though at this time I did not travel with Garland, nor did I follow his adventures, I feel as though I was there with him that day as I speak these words. For I too wish I could have been there to end the life of the scoundrel, for no woman deserves what had become of those he took.

Speaking of the women, the two bound and collared girls that lay with that filthy hog began to stir at this point. Garland looked at the two women, both whom had defiled by the merchant’s seed. At least one had the joy of knowing she would not be pregnant, but having her rear violated surely was no joy to begin with.

As the Elven girl woke, her eyes fell first upon Garland, growing wide, then upon Hermenegildo, now becoming like saucers. There was no way to tell how these girls would react, they had likely been through quite a bit, and may have even lost enough of their minds to think they loved the wretched barge captain. Garland needed to decide on a course of action quickly.

>Silence the girl
>Allow her to react
>Try to calm her down calmly [1d100 – Persuasion]
>Try to calm her down roughly [1d100 – Intimidate]

“Listen,” the Witcher said calmly, his voice free of all the hatred and malice it had carried when speaking with Hermenegildo “don’t panic, I’m not here to hurt you.”

The fear in the girl’s eyes did not leave them, but her mouth which looked like it had been about to open in a shrill cry of terror eased back closed, though she still grimaced at the sight before her. “A-are you my new master sir?” she asked, her voice carried all the unmistakeable meekness of a well-trained slave. “Are we to be yours?”

“No,” the Witcher said simply “I’ve come to free you.”

The girl looked confused, as if she didn’t quite understand what the Witcher meant. But she seemed to have been put at ease somewhat, she did not fear for her life at the very least. Perhaps it was time to get back to work, he still needed more proof, and wanted to know how Hermenegildo was related to that strange whistling noise. It seemed that the bloated merchant had carried away the women, but not the men. Perhaps he had struck a deal with some beast. The evidence would be in his papers, that was what the man had said before he died. But leaving these girls now would make him feel somewhat guilty.

>Rescue the girls now, come back for the papers later
>Help the girls free, then get to work
>Leave the girls for now, and find the papers.

Garland was no cruelly hardened veteran, who could not spare a moment from his duty to help two girls in need – at least not at this part of his journey. He would at least free the girls from their binds and collars before getting to work, that would at least allow them to clean themselves up.

It took him mere moments to find the keys that would unlock their shackles and collars, Hermenegildo had obviously been quite confident in his training to have these girls in his quarters with the keys so handy. Confidence was simply a fool’s pride. Taking the keys he unshackled the girls, the second of which had recently awoken fully as well. They stared at him as he worked, their eyes innocent and confused. When he was done they simply stood and stared at him, the merchant’s seed running down their thighs, making them hard to look at.

“Clean yourselves up.” He said, gesturing to a wood basin with a sponge that Hermenegildo had prepared in the corner. He had realized these girls were far too far gone to get out alone, but they could at least stay here until he took care of the dangers they might face.

Before that though he turned to the desk, his cat-like eyes falling upon the ledgers that were stacked neatly upon the corner. While the sounds of the two slave girls cleaning themselves went on behind him, he sat at the desk and began looking through the ledgers. He was surprised to find that there were no attempts made to hide the truth here. Amongst the stock that Hermenegildo had sold there were entries such as “Human girl. Hair: Blonde. Eyes: Blue. Bust: Moderate. Age: 16.” It was as if the man felt no shame, felt he was so safe he didn’t even have to hide his business.

“We are clean sir,” said the human girl from somewhere behind him.

"Find some clothes then," he said simply, turning back to his work. This may not be enough, but he had other things to think of.

Anon, I have some bad news

He was a Witcher, not a babysitter and he would remember why he was here. He couldn’t leave any stone unturned, there was no chance of him missing some information. He set the ledgers aside for now, and instead turned his attention to the desk itself, opening the drawers and rifling through its innards. There was some gold, which he pocketed without too much question – it would go to a better source than if the guards found it he was sure. The pouch was heavy, perhaps a hundred coins contained within. Nothing compared to what would be in the man’s lockbox, but this would do nicely.

He was about to give up the search when his hand fell upon a plain leather bound book tied with a black ribbon. This was definitely no ledger. He opened it up and flipped through the pages, hardly expecting anything of interest. What he discovered was a diary. Eagerly he began reading through entries, barely skimming the contents of each page hoping for something incriminating or interesting. This was what he discovered:

The operations had been going on for over three years now, taking pretty young girls from port towns when they had the chance. But they had been very careful, taking only one or two girls from the same girl each year, and being very careful to make it look like the young girls had run away. They had once taken a couple from the lighthouse tower, killing the lad and selling off the girl. But that had been two years prior.

What Garland found very interesting was the entries over the last few months. Hermenegildo had heard of the disappearances occurring in the town, and when he arrived he investigated everything to do with them. He was no hunter of monsters, what he wanted was opportunity. As people were already disappearing left and right in the town, he thought they wouldn’t notice if a few more disappeared every two weeks or so. They had decided to bump up their operations in Loredge, under the cover of the mysterious disappearances.

>>
This was useful, but far from what Garland had hoped for. He sought a connection between Hermenegildo and the creature who had started the disappearances. It seemed like there may indeed be none.

He also noted that two weeks prior during a storm, the first mate and three girls had been washed overboard. They had somehow managed to escape – Hermenegildo suspected one of the crew wanted a three woman romp, which he deemed foolish before proper training – and the first mate had been trying to capture them. It had been a simple mistake, but one that Hermenegildo paid for well, as the guards found the corpses on the beach. He knew this had raised suspicions with Barth, one of the girls had been his daughter - a brazen act the merchant was proud of.

Closing the diary the Witcher added it to the pile of books he would be taking from the ship, and turned to the girls. “You two need to stay in here and be very quiet, if any man comes to the door do not answer, unless of course it is me.” He said, before briskly turning and departing out the door, pulling it closed behind him.

>Take the few men on the ship by storm
>Try and capture the men
>Leave and report to the guards – this is their part of the job

The Witcher crept from the barge that night, choosing to take what information he had to Klemens Barth. At first he had suspected that Barth was a part of this conspiracy, but knowing his daughter had been taken as one of the slaves changed everything.

He did not head for his office, it was too late for the man to be found there. Instead he sought out the brothel. Bursting through the door, not a single thought given for the patrons who look startled up at him as he did so. He brushed right by the Red Lady, and instead began searching the rooms within which dirty deeds were performed. Twice he interrupted such acts between individuals whom he cared not for, before coming to the room that contained Barth.

The man sat on the bed, and jumped in surprise and pain as the woman kneeling between his legs gasped – likely biting down upon him as she did so. “What in the fuck do you think you’re doin’ Witcher?” Barth barked angrily, as Merribelle sat up from her position, wiping mingled fluids from her lips, including a thin rivulet of blood.

At first he did not speak, simply flung a ledger and the diary at the man. But when the guard captain simply looked up at him bewildered and enraged he simply said. “I caught one of the monsters.”

That seemed to grab Barth’s attention, even away from his wounded manhood. He put himself away, and began to read from the leather bound books. As he did the Witcher noticed sweat begin trickling down the bald man’s face. At first he wondered if he had made a mistake, that Barth was sweating because he knew he had been caught. But when the round face came up from the books to stare into the Witcher’s eyes, there was nothing but rage there.

Yep
show barth proof of hermans slave trade
storm the ship with the town guard
capture the crew
question them on their activities, where theyve been and how many girls they capture or whatever
publicly execute them in a humiliating fashion

also need to find a place for the girls to go
otberwise theyd just end up as whores at the brothel

This part of the tale is told throughout Loredge to this day, by bards such as myself but also by those who remember it well. The story has changed to favour Barth over the years, as you might expect, but nonetheless it was a magnificent night.

Garland and Barth, Witcher and Guard Captain joined forces that night to root out a darkness that had seeped into the town. By that time it was nearly two of the clock, and the night life at the tavern was dying down. That is until guards moved in from every door, followed by the Witcher and the Captain. The night was brutal, the night was bloody, the night was glorious.

The slavers knew immediately what must have happened, and stood grabbing what weapons they could find to defend themselves. It was of course, a pointless struggle. The tavern exploded in battle that night, with the Witcher and Barth leading the charge. Many crewmen lost their lives to those two, who almost seemed to compete as they cleared the room of the villains. There would be no surrenders until but six men remained.

This continued in a similar manner in many other establishments throughout the town, the brothel, another drinking spot and of course the Barge were all included. By the end at least forty men had been slain, and a fair few captured as well. When the sun rose upon the town of Loredge that morn, the Witcher and Barth stood together, surveying their work as corpses were piled for burning, and the captured men were taken to the town’s jailhouse. The two had sustained minor injuries, but both looked pleased.

“I was wrong about you monster hunter,” Barth smiled “You’re more human than I thought.”

“Hmm,” Garland murmured, perhaps in agreement. His eyes were not glittering with adrenaline as Barth’s were, instead he stared out at the sea, where the first light of dawn was showing the islands at the edge of the bay. His work was not yet done.

Going to get me some lunch, I’ll be back shortly

There was little left for Garland to do at this stage. He had solved half the mystery, all that lay before him now was the rocky island, and that strange, mind-filling whistling noise. He would have to prepare as best he could before he went, he knew not what lay at the source of that sound. He still carried with him all his equipment and it did weigh him down, but perhaps he would need it on the island. After the encounter with the boy, he knew that the creature had strong charms at its disposal. He would just have to hope his mutations would protect him as they were meant to.

He also had the sea hag grass, which was said to make the mind sharper if chewed. He would likely have to do so when he got to the island to keep himself from being taken over. But was there anything more he could do?

This is the next day right?
Check on the girl again see if she's more lucid now.
Also she prophesied we "die"on the full moon right? That wouldn't happen to be today would it?
>>
It had been some time since Garland had last seen the girl from the lighthouse. He might not have been so worried, had it not been for the fact that she clearly possessed The Power. The prophecy she had foretold was chilling, and the Witcher was sure that it held some degree of truth. He would have to speak of it with the others when he returned to Kaer Morbeth.

For now he would see if she had made any changes, the full moon was not for another week, and there was no guarantee she spoke of this coming full moon, she had mentioned that the moon would turn red. Perhaps she referred to an eclipse, which would not happen for years to come.

The town had been full of commotion that night, an uproar that he had been a part of. But it seemed that the apothecary had also been caught up in its own action. There were a few guards taking questions from the Elven doctor, while the Dwarf Grauvas stood off to the side. Things did not look good here, and the fact that his Panther Medallion quivered as he approached confirmed his fears.

“Garland,” Grauvas said as a greeting as the Witcher approached “I’m sorry my friend, there was nothing I could do.”

“What happened?” Garland asked, suddenly fearing for the girl’s safety.

“It was the girl… sometime in the night she went bloody mad. I was nappin’ by the fire, when suddenly she gets up, her eyes all white like when she spoke the prophecy. She came at me, and next thing I know the doctor’s wakin’ me up. I don’t know what the fuck happened!”

“The boy is missing too.” Came the voice of the doctor from behind him, as he finished his questioning and joined the pair of friends. “I fear whatever holds him may have reached out to her through the boy, the power she holds likely made it easy."

“Shit,” Garland spat, looking off to the sea. He didn't exaclty blame the Dwarf, but still he wished that something more had been done.

one of the regular players here, busy with work all week so won't be able to participate in the next thread, just wondering whats going to happen to the two slave girls we found in Hermenegildo's room? any chance of Garland making one of them a travelling companion, not so much for the sex only sometimes, whores don't like Witchers but to be a moral compass of sorts, remind Garland what he fights for and against, and to try and help them, they'd likely be thrown back into their former trade eventually and if we can take one as a travelling companion, thats one soul sparred that terrible fate
