All the Hallows are in attendance in the batcave, as is Borislav. It’s three hours till go time, and the shadows outside subtly begin to lengthen. Oh yeah, and you’re in attendance too. But that wasn’t a question, was it? How else would you know Borya was there? You guess you could assume or something, but that would be presumptuous.

Anyway, Isaac’s got all the equipment out, and everybody’s starting to get geared up. The plan, as it has been explained to you, is to hit the compound from both the front and back. Since Isaac, Rowan, and Borislav don’t appear to have too much issue being shot at, they’re taking the front approach, where they’ll hopefully pull down most of the attention on themselves. That will allow you in the back, along with Harvey.

Since it’s going down at nighttime, you should be able to remain relatively low profile. Right now, Cassandra’s busy screwing on some kind of fancy electronic scope onto a rifle. She’s going to be giving you and Harvey over watch. While you know she’s a pretty slick shooter from your day in the woods, there’s a big difference between shooting paper targets in broad daylight and knocking down people targets at night.
>>
>>32586045

Everyone’s dressed in dark colors with boots and stuff, except Borislav, who has a dark army green ensemble with poufy fatigues and coat jacket that makes him look a size bigger than he is. Harvey’s got some weird little kind of assault rifle thing he’s busy stripping down and rebuilding, while Isaac carefully checks over a bunch of grenades laid out on a table with Rowan.

“Honey,” says Isaac, turning back to Cassandra suddenly, “make sure you don’t use the – “

“I never use the thermal scope,” Cass says, keeping her attention on her work.

Rowan turns to Isaac. “Hey dad, where’s the MP7? I didn’t see it over there.”

“It’s with everything else,” he says.

“Yeah, because I would ask you if it was with everything else.”

“I left it in the red backpack,” says Harvey.

Rowan turns from the explosives to walk over to a stack of bags, and rummages through one of the bags. A moment later, she picks out a little kind of crammed kind of weapon.
>>
>>32586056
Borislav is kicking it back in an old, discolored lawn chair. A gun that looks suspiciously like an AK-47 lies by his side, though supposedly, it’s a shotgun.

You suppose you should start grabbing stuff as well and quit standing around and staring, but there are a lot of choices, and you don’t know your way too well around stuff.

-Silenced submachine (MP5 or MAC11) gun as primary firearm.

You get Harvey to point you to some stuff you can use. He finds you a bullet proof vest and makes sure you know how to wear it correctly. Afterwards, you rummage through the bewildering variety of weapons at your disposal, eventually managing to find the MP5 you were using when you were practicing. You go ahead and grab the .45 Ruger you were also playing around with earlier, since you found you liked the heavier rounds.

You carefully place the handgun in a shoulder holster and fix the SMG on a shoulder strap. You feel way tactical right now. You hope you go better tonight than you usually do in Call of Duty – you don’t think a 1:1 KD ratio is going to cut it. Then again, the couple times you’ve played COD, you didn’t have your shadow powers to give you cover.

And speaking of cover, you think it’s a good idea to pick up some smoke grenades. You do better the closer you are, and when people can’t see you, so it seems like a natural fit. You meander over to Isaac’s table, where he forks over a pair of gray canisters. While you clip them to your vest, your attention goes back to Cassandra, who has finished attaching her scope and is carefully looking down the sights to test its feel and weight.

“Hey Cassandra,” you ask, unable to contain your curiosity, “when did you become the expert sniper person?”
>>
>>32586335

She takes a break from sighting her rifle to answer you. “I used to work with the police,” she says.

“Oh. Okay then,” you say. You try to imagine Cassandra with a badge and being a curmudgeonly cop lady. You don’t really see it.

“Sierra, let me show you how to use those,” Isaac says, indicating your smoke grenades.

No wonder she's so weird. Snipers are notoriously weird people

The smoke grenades look simple enough to use. That, and they have the directions written on the side. “I’ve played before,” you say. “It’s R1, right?”

Everyone has a laugh, except Isaac. He looks around, a little confused.

“It’s a videogame joke,” says Cass.

Isaac makes an ‘oh’ shape with his mouth and nods.

“So why buy a bunch of new guns if you always stick with a turn-of-the-tenth-century classic?” you ask. “What makes it so hot or whatever?”

Isaac unslings his crossbow and sets carefully it down on the table before you. You never really looked at it this closely before, but you can tell it’s no regular crossbow. It’s way heavy, and it’s made of finely polished gray wood. Fine inscriptions and complicates glyphs run along its surface, etched in silver. The runes along the bow are thicker and bigger than those found elsewhere. It seems to hold a presence in and of itself, as if it were vaguely aware of its surroundings.

“This crossbow was forged in the heavens of Elysia,” he says. “It can penetrate the very strongest of arcane artifice and spell craft.” He picks out a bolt from his quiver and shows it to you, as well. Its similarly covered in intricate, flowing silvery text that looks more like a decorative pattern than language. “Plus the bolts are easy to enchant,” he adds.

That’s a whole lot of flowery language. “So… it’s a magic piercing crossbow?” you ask.

“It’s a lot more complicated than that,” Isaac says.
>>
>>32586829

Rowan appears between the two of you. “It’s a magic piercing crossbow,” she confirms.

“Cool,” you say.

Cassandra interrupts the conversation. “It’s time to go,” she says.

Isaac checks his watch. “That it is,” he says. “Borislav, Rowan, let’s move. We’re taking the jeep.”

But if they take the jeep, that leaves you with Borislav’s truck. But that seems like kind of a tight fit with all of your weapons if you want to keep them out of view, but he didn’t even give you the keys. But that would mean… “We’re not taking the minivan on a military op,” you argue.

“It’s spacious and has good gas mileage,” says Cassandra. She slings a suspicious duffel bag over one shoulder, picks up her rifle with the other, and walks toward the door.

“It’s not like this is the first time,” says Harvey, seeing your disdain. He follows pursuit.

Left with no options, you go along, all your gear jingling and jangling as you go.

--

It’s dark, and you, Cassandra, and Harvey lie atop a pristine green golf-course hill. Harvey passes you the binoculars. You look through them at the compound. It’s not really a compound, but knowing what goes inside makes it a compound. The huge house fits in with all the other pretentious homes that line the edge of the scenic golf territory. Except for the fact it’s chain link fence is topped with razor wire. And for the couple out of place guys just standing around outside by the pool, with no obvious intent to go swimming.
>>
>>32586844
“I’m counting three potential hostiles out back,” Cassandra says into a little microphone clipped on her arm. She’s lying prone against the short grass and gazing through the scope of her rifle. “Definite movement inside.”

“We’re almost in position,” comes Isaac’s voice. “Hold fast.”

Cass turns to you and Harvey. “You‘ll be open targets at the fence, but there’s plenty of cover once you get into the back yard. There’s an explosive charge in my bag that should get you through.”

Harvey nods, and grips his little carbine rifle thing closer to his chest.

“Any last minute questions?” Cassandra asks.

>Aren’t explosions loud?

Would doing this drain us of 5PP before we go in? It might be better to just use the explosives if that's the case. It'd put them on alert for the Hallows, harder to think about the sneaky sneaky backystabby shadowdemon when you have Demonbane storming your compound like divine SWAT.

Also question: Would the light from our hellfire cancel out our shadows?
>>
>>32587045
Not if we made a dome out of them on the other side of our cutting spot to block the light.
>>
>>32587045
We probably wouldn't need a lot of hellfire to melt a chainlink fence. It should be hidden enough if you do it in a depression or relatively blind spot, and have your shadows up a bit.

>>32587013
especially if we get in stealthily.
>>
>>32587045
we only need enough hellfire to make a finger (claw?) into a cutting torch, as opposed to full on hands-of-burny-death mode with all the bells and whistles.
>>
“Well, one, kind of,” you say. “What do we do if this is like, a really bad trap?”

“Isaac and I will keep you posted. Keep an ear on your radio,” she says. “If you don’t hear from us, get out and go back to the house. It shouldn’t come to that, though.”

“About the fence,” you say. “I can cut through it in a couple seconds instead. It probably wouldn’t be all explosiony and loud.”

Cass thinks about it. “If you can get in without being noticed, all the better,” she answers. “I can give you cover from here. They might not notice you if they’re busy looking for me.”

Harvey carefully extracts the det charge from Cass’ pack and puts it in a pocket of his tactical vest.

Cassandra’s radio crackles back up. “We’re ready on my end,” comes Isaac’s voice.

Cass turns to you and Harvey. “Ready?” she asks.

You don’t feel ready. But you guess you have to be. (+5 Stress: 12/100) You just nod.

Harvey must haven nodded as well, because the next thing you know, Cass is radioing back. “Green light from us,” she says.

“Go in ten,” says Isaac. Cass settles down and glues her eye to the scope. You see Harvey move into a low crouch, ready to sprint off. You join him.

“Don’t do the light thing just yet,” you say. “We’ll move in the dark.”

Harvey acknowledges you with a nod.

You feel your ten seconds running out. And then Cassandra says go.

Before you go anywhere, you draw in the darkness around you and Harvey.

“Sierra, I can’t see anything,” Harvey says flatly.

“Shut up.” You grab his wrist and pull him running across the open ground to the fence. If anyone had been looking for you, they would have been able to see a slightly blacker splotch on the dark turf moving toward them. As it is, the one guy smoking a cigarette nearest the back doesn’t notice when you and Harvey run up and skitter to a stop before the fence.

With your newfound strength from the Muir Woods landwell, the difficulty of keeping up your shadowy ruse is almost nothing. (-2 PP: 22/24)

You shift the shadows about you so that they shield the section of fence you plan to breach. What you’re about to do will be pretty hard, but you think you can manage it. You ignite your claws and make hasty work of dragging them through the fencing. You have to burn pretty hot so you can cut through, and that much heat means a bunch of light, but you’re able to keep your shadows up dense enough to smother the light as you work. (-10 PP: 12/24)

You drop the shadows and kick out the fencing. A second later, you and Harvey slide in, and start creeping up through bushes toward the house.

A chorus of gunfire and rattling explosions echo into the night from the other side of the mansion.

The guard nearest you checks his radio. He’s in a black turtle neck sweater and wears an obvious shoulder holster. “What the hell’s going on?” he asks. He’s about twenty yards off, standing by the pool. While he doesn’t speak loudly, you can hear him just fine, even with the staccato sound of combat pervading the air.

“-ing under attack!” comes the reply.

The man draws his handgun and rushes over to a low brick wall that serves as a median between the smooth pool area and the leafy garden out back. Another guy on the back patio of the mansion hops down and flips out the stock on a weapon, while the guy on the far right by the pool house / guest house gets out his flashlight and shines it over at the fence, as if expecting to see somebody standing obviously out on the bank. The beam narrowly avoids illuminating you and Harvey.

“Idiot, switch that thing off,” says the guy who was smoking up until now. He’s discarded his cigarette and has crushed it under boot. It kind of hurts you to see a perfectly good cig wasted like that, which makes you glad you quit smoking.

“They could be out there right now,” he says.

The flashlight guy quickly fumbles it off. “Sorry.”

“Should we circle around?” asks the man with the assault rifle, who’s back on the far side of the pool, by the back of the house.

Cigarette guy nods, preparing to get up. “They could use the extra –“
>>
>>32587710

A hate filled voice blasts over his radio. “CARMINE,” comes a gravelly shout. “STAY WHERE YOU ARE YOU SHIT. KILL ANYONE YOU SEE.”

The guards all hunker back down at the command, and turn their attention onto the empty gardens around them. The vague blue light coming up from the pool is the only light that illuminates the scene.

Harvey watches everything. You know he didn’t hear what you just did. They’re too far off. Still, he’s probably figured out the gist of things. He gives you a look that says, how do you want to handle this?

You look to your right, and see that, past the pool, the guest house, and the guards, is an open garage door, one of those slightly subterannean garages rich people use to store their fancy car collection. You remember the blueprints – that should take you right into the basement. Going in the back would put you in the middle of the house, though. Isaac’s team is going to be barging right in through the front door.

Knowing the speed at which they work, you’ll need to keep up a good pace.

You and Harvey move up close to the pool. With the sounds of battle raging close by, you don’t have to worry about the noise, so it goes quick.

Since you’re the worst at this, you aim at the easiest target, the guy by the guest house. Harvey lines up a shot on Carmine, cigarette man. “By the stairs,” he whispers into the radio. “Fire first.”

You take aim at your target, who’s standing wide in the open. You’ve done this before, you can do it again.

“Did you hear that?” says Carmine, looking a little around his low cover.

The guy by the stairs with the assault rifle jerks backward, a bullet catching him in the breastbone. He goes down like a bag of rocks. A rifle cracks somewhere behind you.

Harvey fires off a burst, hitting the guy square in the face.

The sound of the gun going off right behind you spooks you, and you flinch just as you fire. You send a spray right by your target, shattering a window that was near him. In a panic, he whips up his pistol and, perhaps having seen your muzzle flash, fires at you.

The next thing you know, you’re on your back, feeling like somebody just punched you in the gut. “Fuck.” (-2 HP: 12/14, +7 Stress: 19/100)

If we're stopping by Carmine's body, we might want to scoop a handfull of blood out of him. 2hp might not seem like a lot, but we've cut it pretty close in most fights and I'd rather not risk it.
>>
>>32588262
Oh hey, good idea. I forgot we regen with blood.

Yeah, we should totally drink a bit. We should also try and leech some PP if there is a chance.
>>

I don't know, it seems strange for her to just go "Hey, lemme drink his blood for a sec."

Bit metagamey, even.
>>
>>32588320
This is true.

"GUYS HOLD ON I'M THIRSTY" is a bit video gamey
>>
>>32588320
I suppose it kind of is, but Sierra is aware of her funky healing when she drinks blood. Though I guess you could also consider as the kind of thing she only does when she's taken more damage.
>>
>>32588320
>Bit metagamey, even.
I don't see it. Sierra in character can see how close to death things are. She knows that that impact hurt her. She also knows that blood heals her.

Even if it's not the most appropriate course of action at the moment, it's not metagamey at all.
>>
>>32588346
It isn't. It heals us and we know how close we've come to dying before. It's not like it takes a long time.
>>
This might be a little fucked up, but I really want to sneak up on and bite someone to see what the hell this venom stuff does. We never figured it out.
>>
>>32588443
I'm hoping for Paralysis, all kinds of fun stuff.
>>
“We’re definitely not staying here,” you say. You get up and move out, staying low. Harvey keeps on your back. You don’t need to tell him where you’re going, he seems to get it. You circle around the guest house, figuring one dude isn’t worth your time when speed’s important. Cassandra will probably cover you if he shows up again.

You and Harvey cover ground quickly, and soon you’re walking down the ramp into the garage. Sure enough, there are like, twenty cars parked in it. It’s unoccupied. And then it isn’t.
>>
>>32588503
sheeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttt
>>
>>32588503
A couple big, remarkably hairy dudes in flak vests and khakhi shorts bust into the room at the far end. One has a machine gun, while the other brandishes an SMG. You and Harvey barely have time to take cover behind a tool chest before they start shooting up the place. Car alarms go off, glass explodes, and bullets burry themselves into concrete as echoing thunder blasts throughout the concrete chamber.

Although it’s well lit, you see that there are many light sources in the room – big ceiling lamps. It’s too well lit for your shadow magic to do any good. Across from you (and across the big guys’ avenue of fire) there’s a light switch, right by a big yellow hummer. Further up the garage on the right it looks like there’s a door, though you don’t know if it just leads into a closet or opens up into stairs you could use to go up.

The cars can give you some cover if you decide to advance on the gunmen, but right now this is getting too crazy, even for you. (+10 Stress: 29/100)

"We can lure them back outside," Harvey shouts over the din. But that would take time, and would they even follow you? Plus, you don't know who's watching the back yard from the windows now that the shooting's started and they know your position.

>What do you do?
>>
>>32588538
Shoot out a light near the switch so you can use shadow magic shit to flip it?
>>
>>32588538
About how far off are they?
>>
>>32588538
I think we should use one (or both?) of our smoke grenades and tear them a new asshole.
>>
>>32588538
Fireball on the light closest to the switch and then use shadows to flick the switch. Go on the offensive then
>>
>>32588577
Oh shit, this is super smart. Might have Harvey do the shooting though since he's likely a better shot. We can give covering fire.
>>
>>32588538
>Although it’s well lit, you see that there are many light sources in the room – big ceiling lamps.
Was this meant to say that there /aren't/ many light sources?
>>
>>32588586
smoke grenades, flick the lights then start tearing assholes
>>
>>32588577
>>32588586
Actually, fuck yeah, forgot about the smoke grenades.
>>
>>32588577
But we never got the at range shadow manipulation. The shadows have to be touching Sierra and stretching to touch the thing we want to manipulate.

We need to get that ranged shadow skill..
>>
>>32588579

About ~17 meters off.

>>32588613

I was of two minds while writing. There are about 5 big ceiling lamps.
>>
>>32588634
>We need to get that ranged shadow skill..
All of the shadow skills are awesome. It looks like our main strategy in everything has been to rely on shadows a lot, so I'm personally going to be putting them on the second highest priority just below regen abilities.
>>32588641
We could totally shoot some of those out, then.
>>
>>32588641
>About ~17 meters off.
Well that's a shame. I'd wanted to use Corrupt on their guns to disarm them for only 4PP.
>>
“Popping a smoke,” you say, grabbing off one of your smoke grenades, twisting off the handle thing, and chucking it midway between you and the gunmen. You look at Harvey. “Did I say that right? Popping a smoke? That sounds kind of gay.” (-1 Stress: 28/100)

Harvey smiles and gives a chuckle.

The smoke grenade starts hissing and then begins jetting out thick plumes of white fog. In a matter of seconds, the whole place is getting choked with obfuscating smoke. The gunfire lessens, but keeps up – yet, you can tell it’s just suppressing fire without any real sustenance. You dodge across the gap and hit the lights. The room suddenly grows dark. There’s still a trickle of light coming from the far end of the room, likely the door the guards came through.

The darkness wraps around you like a comforter. (-5 Stress: 23/100)

It gets suspiciously quiet, the gunfire stopping. Are they advancing on you? Holding their ground? Will they turn the lights back on, or do they have flashlights? You could creep forward to get in range of some of your other abilities.

>What do you do?
>>
>>32588748
Go for the jugular before they catch on what you are doing.
>>
>>32588748
Could we use shadow magic to make a tapping noise on the other side of the garage or at least somewhere reasonably far away from where we're walking?

If yes, do the shadow noise distraction and creep up behind them for Dark Hearting and claw stabbening.
>>
>>32588748

We're moving up with a shadow distraction to make sound, and going in with claws swiping.

>>
>>32588748
Keep our ears peeled, with our enhanced hearing we should be able to hear them if they do much of anything.

Advance on them, try to get in range of our other abilities, use small touches of Shadow Grasp to soften our footfalls if we can, and make small noises elsewhere to throw them off. Get their scents if possible.

You peal around the edge of the hummer and advance, using the connected darkness between you and the other side of the garage to scrape against the cars opposite you. You smell them before you see them – the scent of stale sweat, of someone who doesn’t know what the word shower means. It’s disgusting. You throw your SMG over your back so it doesn’t get in the way. This is getting up close and personal.

You hone in on the scent, making your way through the blinding fog still billowing from your smoke grenade. Visibility is about three feet, if that. Then you come up on the first one.

You’re out of his blind spot. Your claws twitch as you move up – but something has changed. The shape isn’t the same as you saw earlier. He’s taller. More muscular. More…Hairy? And a lot tougher than you expected. (SMG guy: 25/25)

It’s too late to pull back now, though. You have to do everything now. You lunge forward and leap up. You try to seize him about the neck with your claws, but there’s impossibly too many muscles, and the thick, almost mane-like hair keeps you from cutting through the cords of muscle to get to anything vital. The warm press of cleaving tissue crowds your fingers and you feel a great surge of foreign power drain into your claws. (SMG guy: 13/25, +6 PP: 18/24)
>>
>>32589385
More like whip some fire into it. Lawns love whips.

Nobody has that much PP dood. Maybe if we perform a blood sacrifice though...

The gunman lets out a sharp bleat of pain and lashes about as you try to jump back. You’re a second too slow - seizes you by an arm with a huge, hairy, sweaty hand, and heaves you over head with unexpected strength. Your world turns upside down, then right-side up again, and crash to the garage floor almost stunned. (-3 HP: 9/14) You get a glimpse of hairy, hooved feet, and see him move to bring the SMG to bear.

Reflexively, you burn your fear and anger at the surprise counterattack into the gun. The metal of the weapon darkens a shade and lets out a hideous shrieking noise as it absorbs the negative energy. (+2 Stress: 25/100, -2 PP: 16/24) The weapon literally sizzles in the creature’s hands. It balks and let’s go of the weapon, letting it clatter to the ground.

Before you can think about extracting yourself from the thing’s grip, it yanks you backward and bodily picks you up by both arms, crushing them firmly to your side and immobilizing your claws. It brings up to its face – long, filthy, hairy, and goat-like, with two curved ram-horns protruding from either side of its head. It bars its teeth at you and bleats angrily in your face. You fight to cram down the terror that rips in your gut (+10 Stress: 35/100)

You, however, fight best when a little afraid. Your instincts take over. You suddenly lurch forward and sink your chompers into his face – the goat man jerks backward out of your bite, but you’re left with the unsavory taste of acrid sweat in your mouth, mingled in equal part with a spicy, lively flavor of inhuman blood the likes of which you’ve never tasted before. It is delicious, and the experience of it rushes you with energy. (+2 HP: 11/14)

While he’s recoiling, you feel more of his energy draining out of him and into you, where his flesh makes contact with your arms – in fact, you’re certain he’s got no supernatural power left. (+4 PP: 20/24)

You smile bloodily and send a surge of fiery energy out of your claws. Immediately the scent of burnt hair drowns out nearly everything else. The firelight illuminates the demonic creature’s inhuman features and shining black eyes just long enough for you to savor his expression of hatred and pain immediately before you rock forward and headbutt him in the nose with your wicked as fuck horns. (-15 Stress: 20/100)
>>
>>32589968

You collide with his face with a resounding crack, and you feel his bones give way – his grip fails at the shock of the blow, and you’re left to fall back to the ground – you land in a careful crouch, your arms smoking with blood and smoke.

The goatman keels backwards into a shivering heap. (Goatman: 2/25 HP) Despite his extensive injuries, he would look like he could be getting back up any second if it weren’t for the foam forming at the edges of his mouth and the way he’s started shaking uncontrollably. You giggle at the carnage. Blood and burns, claws and venom. Yes. (-3 Sanity: 97/100)

Suffice to say, the goatman’s probably not a threat anymore.

But the other goatman is.

The one with the machine gun clomps out of the shadow of the half-light, weapon at the ready. And then he is summarily swept onto the floor by a torrent of white lightning and a roar thunder, which originates somewhere from behind you. You brace yourself and whip a hand behind you, channeling a surge of power down your arm and into your finger tips, catching them all steadily ablaze. (-2 PP: 13/24) A tip of concentrated light and heat forms just in front of your index and middle claws, and you shift forward, hurling your arm around as you do so. The pinpoint of light lengthens out into a fiery line of searing heat as you bring your arm through the arc, which catches as if running out of line, and whips forward.

The burning lash cuts forward and down at the fallen goat man, and you jerk backward as you were practicing just a couple days ago. The fire whip cracks over the demon’s wrist and explodes, blasting his arm and chest with fire, and blows off a couple of his fingers.

The demon shrugs away from you as you advance, trying to go for the weapon with his other, non-mangled hand. You don’t let him. You advance, whipping him over and over again with the white hot cord of flame. (Goatman: 8/25)

When you’re close enough, you let the whip dissipate into a crackle of sparks and smoke, and pounce, claws at the ready.
>>
>>32590520
It also caused Sanity loss. Sanity loss is bad, mmmkay.
>>
>>32590608

You tear into him, claws cutting through his flak jacket like it was tissue paper. His power flows into you as you rend his flesh into bloody strips and worse. (+5 PP: 18/24) You hit bones and keep cutting – there is no relenting, no mercy.

You feel Harvey over your shoulder. “I think it’s dead, Sierra,” he says.

You pause and look down at your quarry. Partially charred, reduced to a hunk of steaming meat. (MG Goatman: 0/25) And blood everywhere, as usual, though its new aroma seems delightfully different than what you’ve encountered so far. “Yeah,” you pant, your breathing hard. “Dead.”

This fight is over, but you can still hear gunshots. This reprieve will be momentary. (-2 Stress: 18/100)

“Ew,” he says jokingly. “Do your thing, I’ll watch your back,” he says.

A few moments later, the two of you approach the door the goat men came out of, you feeling right as rain. (HP: 14/14) “Man this is so cool,” you say, as the two of you proceed through the door and into a hallway. Thumps of explosions and barks of gunfire sound through the ceiling, muffled. What a rush! This is way better than COD. (-2 Stress: 16/100)

The hallway you’re in continues forward, while a set of stairs to your right leads upward, presumably to the first floor. Straight ahead the hallyway ends at a door, and branches to the left and the right.

You hear somebody talking from down the hall, perhaps on the other side of the door.

“You think they got ‘em?”

“Of course they got them, they stopped shooting.”

“Should we go see if they’re okay?”

“That’s not our job.”

“Dude, I’m checking.”

You also hear voices drifting down from the stairwell.

“Fuck man, we’re dead, we’re so dead.”

“Calm the fuck down and do what the big lady told you to do.”

Also, your recent tango with the goat men has made you feel slightly more powerful. Choose one of the following.

-Infernus-
Fire Resistance
>Most fire isn't hot enough to phase you.
Explosive Flare
>A wave of fire explodes off of you, setting everything nearby ablaze.
Blood Curse
>You cause the blood of your target to become unstable, greatly weakening it. (Target takes increased damage, loses any buffs and suffers penalties to healing)

-Verwelken-
Atramentous Dominion
>You do not have to have physical contact with shadows to manipulate them. Darkness outside of close range takes more power to control.
Child of Night
> Darkness gives you a bonus to armor.
Shadow Sight
>You can see as well in the dark as you do in the light.

-Belphegoran-
Terrorizing Glare
>Make eye contact with a target, filling it briefly with horrific, all-consuming fear. (Low cost, ranged debuff)
Soul Drinker
>Rip power from a target opponent at touch, and add it to your own. (Drain: 10 PP, Cost: 3 PP)

Inflict Pain means we can give someone a bigass debuff so Issac and crossbow them in the eyes without any trouble, and Blood Curse means that self buffers, and regeners fall apart.

You stop for a second to flip off the light, knowing somebody’s about to come in. The hall becomes completely pitch black. No windows, underground. There is no light. So why can you see everything perfectly?

You don’t see color. It’s more texture. It’s like your eyes are picking up the way the darkness around you weighs down on everything. There are no shadows or shades or lighting. Everything is a canvass of monochromatic surfaces.

You watch Harvey crouch down and aim ahead at the door at the end of the hallway. Light bleeds through under the edge of it, an unwelcome smudge of warm color in an otherwise cool, peaceful plane of darkness.

You hear the soft trick of a bolt turning in the door – the guy is coming through.

>>
The door cracks open, silhouetting a guy with a revolver and a leather jacket. He squints into the darkness, and says, “Who turned out the –“

You throttle him with darkness. It slithers along the ground, cutting into the light, wraps around his ankles, and tears him toward you. At the same time, you slam the door shut again with an overpressure of shadow, leaving everything in the dark. (-5 PP: 14/25) He fires twice, wildly, before you get on him and wrench the gun out of his hand. You feel his skin go cold beneath your touch. (+2 PP: 16/25)

“Jack!” comes a yell from the other side of the door. You hear something fall over. “Quit moving!”

Jack’s wide eyes are featureless orbs in your shadow sight, with only slight raises indicating his irises. “Oh god oh god,” he says, as you press a claw beneath his throat. You could kill him with a twitch of your finger.

You call up the blueprints of the place. You can’t really remember everything, but Harvey should know what he’s talking about. “I’m going. And uh. I guess this guy might wake up like, any second so be careful.”

Harvey nods, and you take off.

You run through the halls, and eventually come to something you assume to be the back door. You crack it open, and are revolted by what you see. It looks like a regular billiards room, except for the guy at the other end, facing the door, with a gun to the head of some guy maybe around your age. Vincent, you guess, watches the door and trembles. You can see four other hostages (or ‘merchandise’, as Jack put it) handcuffed to a length of pipe that runs out of the wall.

Three are young women, maybe in their early twenties or younger, while one looks like he could be a football player or something. They’re all bound and gagged, and look like they’ve seen much better days. The sight makes you pretty damn mad. You don’t go around tying people up and selling them. That’s what Abraham Lincoln was for. (+5 Stress: 17/100)

“Don’t fucking come in here or I’ll kill a kid!” Vincent shouts.

The lighting in the room isn’t too good, but it’s good enough to prevent you from doing anything too zany. The light above the billiard table looks like it’s hooked up to a light switch pretty close to the guy, though if he keeps his eyes fixed on the door, he probably won’t see it.

You don’t trust yourself with making a headshot, so instead, you edge into the room and forward a little, careful not to make a sound. Luckily the hostages are blindfolded, so they can’t tip off your presence. Once you’re close enough, you carefully wind up your negative feelings into a compact sphere and send it down into Vincent’s court.

It strikes true. And you can see Vincent’s grip on the handgun weaken. “It’s over,” he says, beginning to sob. He unceremoniously shoves his hostage to the ground, and leans heavily back against the billiard’s table. “It’s all over.” He raises the gun to his own head.

Call out to him. 'Vince Stop!'

Corrupt the gun.
>>
Rolled 60

>>32593986
Let him do it.
>>
>>32594020
We drove him into massive magical depression

>>32593986
Yell at him to drop it, and get over there to interrogate. But keep an eye out for any problems with the hostages.

He's depressed, so he'll either just do what we say or boggle in numb confusion more than long enough for us to reach him and secure things.

Super vote. 5 minutes. Go.

1. Let him die.

2. Intervene.

The number and nothing else. Don't quote this post either, I know you want to (and that you will).
>>
>>32593986
Knock him out and drain him for PP. Come on guys, think practical here.
>>
>>32593986
Not that I think we care, but having him alive to tell us where the cuff keys are might be good.

So take the gun, get the keys. Cuff him and his friend to the pipe.

It doesn't matter, the 2s have it and one vote wouldn't make a difference.

>>32594256

Ask him questions, then slit his throat discretely? Drain him? Don't traumatize the hostages?

Plenty of reasons to not let him blow his brains out at this very second. Could even kill him later if we want
>>
>>32594256
more info, also while I would gladly kill this slaving cunt we don't want to do it in front of frightened civvies. Also need the keys, mang.
>>
>>32594283
Because we don't need to rip and tear everyone every time. Plenty of chances for that still, I think.

>>32594315
That is what Dexter said before his sister got murdered by the person he didn't kill.
>>
You burst from your crouch and charge him. You bound up on him, and knock the gun out of his weak, shaky grip. (+2 PP: 13/25)

He whirls on you, but loses his grip on the table and falls to the ground, heavily. He looks up at you and his eyes widen with. “What… what the hell are you?”

There’s something in the way he looks at you that you find... disquieting. (-1 Sanity: 96/100) (+2 Stress: 19/100)

And I suppose I have to go, but if I get back early enough, I may continue later. Check twitter.

Need him alive if we want to recoup 2PP from him

What sort of adverse effects are there to using Dark Heart on someone? We could always ask the hostages to top us up a bit if it's harmless to people with no powers to use.

If it's in response to him being terrified of us, we might be able to win back a point or two by reassuring the hostages.

Good thing they're blindfolded, given how we look right now.

We should ask about how many guys they've got in here, and if there's any nasty stuff his boss(es?) got lying around.

Then inform him his boss(es) are even worse on the cosmic horror scale than we are, and that we're doing him a favor.
>>
Let Harvey know the guy is down, depending on whether the guys upstairs are coming down right now or not we can either grill Vince for info on other hostages and enemies etc. or just kill/subdue him now.

If we have a little time, tying up the unconscious guy(s) for later interrogation is preferable to killing him, which in turn is preferable to leaving them loose and liable to wake up.
