Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you left a bandit to die, eluded a pack of dragons, and encountered a strange portal.

“Fine, we'll wait then. Just until everyone can stand on their own two feet. I doubt this will go poorly but I suppose it's better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.” Profectus immediately shoots back. “The fact you don't see how this could go poorly really concerns me, Mik. What if we get trapped on the other side? What if the creature eats us? What if there isn't any air in there? What if the air is poisonous? What if-” Fulvia cuts him off, surprisingly. “Going over every possible bad scenario will not produce any worthwhile effects. Please stop.”

That puts an end to the conversation, though the atmosphere is a tad too tense for idle conversation. For some reason you get the impression they don't really want to explore any further. You can understand that. You'd like to get back to the surface as well. You had plans, though they weren't exactly time sensitive. You wonder what the water temple is going to be like. Will it actually be populated? That note you found was old, though you suppose there is no telling how old. For all you know the water temple is an abandoned ruin.

You're drawn from your thoughts by Chryssa pushing herself up violently. Profectus had put her down on the ground once it was decided that you would wait it out instead of just plunging in. “I hated that passionately. Mik, you need to learn to fix paralysis.” You nod your head in agreement. “I'm almost able to. I simply require the ability to cast one more effect, then I will be able to reverse that spell and many others.”
(1/2 or 3)
>>
Unfortunately it isn't long after that before Darzi begins to stir. Otherwise you would've gotten some reading done. She pushes herself up with just as much vigor as Chryssa had before. “Gods above, that's a horrible sensation. It's painful, you know. Like you're trying to move your limbs but they're resisting.” You grin. “I actually did know that, my master often chose to paralyze me at crucial moments for his own amusement. Walking down the stairs, flirting with other apprentices, trying to cast a spell, swimming.” That one was particularly terrifying, you very nearly drowned. You would've, had your master not saved your life.

With everyone awake you clap your hands loudly to get their attention. “Alright, into the hole!” Before they have time to protest, you stride through. At first you're met with resistance, but as you put your shoulder into it you break through the barrier barring you entry and find yourself falling through a black void. You land unceremoniously on your stomach, the ground crunching beneath you.

Rather than the empty void you'd been expecting, you appear to be in some sort of wasteland. To your west, skeletal trees blanket a mountain range, snow adorning their peaks. To your east, darkness looms almost like a vast cloud front. It seeps between the trees like fog and you think you can see clawed hands grasping for you. Directly ahead there is a warmly lit hovel built beneath the roots of a tree, its ceiling propping up the rotted earth, most of it weathered to sand and incapable of sustaining life.
(2/3)
>>
In the far distance a tower looms, glowing brightly. A vast city sprawls out around it, and you think you can spot walls surrounding it. It's dazzling, far more so than any city you've seen on your world. It's almost blinding, and even the stars above seem to cower in the face of its radiance. Unfortunately your gawking is interrupted by a bony ass striking you in the head. It's Profectus, seems he came tumbling through the hole after you. Darzi follows next, then Chryssa, and finally Fulvia.

Once everyone has rolled off of you and you've healed everyone's aches with just a touch of magic, you set about trying to decide your course of action. That spirit, or creature, or whatever it was, is nowhere to be seen.

You cautiously approach the hovel, companions in tow. You hear Darzi whisper. “What on Earth is this place?” To which you shrug. Fulvia speaks up though. “I believe at the time of our demise, we were experimenting with possibly opening permanent portals to alternative worlds. As a backup, should this one ever be destroyed.” Okay, why were they worried about the Earth being destroyed? That seems a more pressing concern in your opinion. “This may be a result of that experimentation, though I have no idea why it was placed where it was.”

The hovel itself is fairly well built. The walls are stone, lanterns hang from the wooden supports holding up the earth above. They serve to lighten the rather oppressive atmosphere, in your opinion. The door is a simple wooden construction with glass windows placed in a geometric pattern on the top portion. Overall, it's very homey if not exactly inviting. You raise your fist and rap your knuckles firmly across the wood, the noise ringing out in the silence and cutting through the subtle background noise of chirping insects and rustling plantlife.

The sound of footsteps thudding across a wooden floor carry through clearly from inside the hose, followed immediately by a sound you find difficult to describe. It's like... a branch cracking, in many ways. That's the best way you can think to describe it. A artificial voice, carrying that same buzzing tone that Fulvia's voice occasionally does, calls out. “Who's there? Fuck off or answer.”

“We're lost.” You reply, though the voice shoots back angrily. “Are you some of those god damned city folk? Think you can just come wandering out here into the wastes to screw with the underprivileged?” He jerks the door open forcefully. “Why shouldn't I just-whoa. You five looks straight out of the stone age.” The being on the other side the door is... confusing. In his hand he holds a pistol with a long barrel and an odd grip. Where his head should be there is instead a large metal object, with flat disk arranged regularly across its surface. Odd steel pumps seem to bind him together and strange joints are bolted onto his shoulder. Wires seem to stick out of everything, even protruding from the back of his head like hair.

Still, some of him appears to be organic. His arm is made of flesh and bone and covered in veins. You can see the barest bits of skin sticking out beneath the wires protruding from his head. His posture is not the ramrod straight posture of a construct, but is slumped and relaxed. You're not really sure what to make of it. By any measure a creature with its head cut off should be dead, yet this one is not.

“Why the hell are you dressed like that, and what are you doing in front of my door? Are those fucking swords? Where the hell are you from?” The creature ask, an obviously curious lilt to its artificial voice. The speakers on its face seem to throb with each syllable it intones. You find it absolutely disgusting. You hear Darzi ask, panic evident in her thoughts. {What is it saying? I can't understand a word!}

>You're asking us? Where is this? We just walked through a hole in the wall and landed outside your hovel.

“You're asking us?” Your tone is somewhat incredulous. It's almost like he thinks you're weird. “Well, yeah. Did I fucking stutter?” You're not even sure how to respond to that, but you have a good idea of where to start. “What?” This only seems to anger the creature. “Interlingua, idiot. Do you speak it? Did I fucking stutter?” Gods, why is this guy so aggressive? What did you do to him? “No, it's just we wandered into this place via a portal in the wall. Fell to the ground right in front of your hovel. A creature made of shadow with glowing eyes invited us here.”

Silence reigns for a long, uncomfortable while before you speak again. “We're from Mundus. It's a nice place. Blue skies, nice people usually. You ought to visit sometime.” There is another uncomfortable silence before he responds. “Well... uh, welcome to Umdnus. I guess. Kind of a shithole. I've never seen the sky. People are dicks. You should leave immediately.” Why the hell did that spirit want you to come here?

“Look, I'd really like to. The problem is-” You glance over your shoulder, and then back. “The portal we entered through is gone. By the way, do you know you're speaking Rhynian? It's bothering me.” He shakes his head slowly. “No, you're speaking the Interlingua. The trade language.” You wave your hands dismissively. “Alright, alright. Not important. The point is, we cannot leave. Not yet, anyway.”

There is a long silence, and then he steps aside slowly. “You can come in, for a while. If you want that is. Otherwise I'd suggest heading for the city. Don't go into the woods, because geist lurk there. The city is safe though. Mostly. Sometimes.”

You step inside, and your companions follow. The interior of the hovel is... interesting. It's rather dilapidated and cluttered, you'd describe it as very 'lived in'. A bed rest against one wall while a bookcase stretches across the opposite. The rest of the abode is dominated by a fireplace, a table, and a few chairs. The rest of his belongings are strewed out across the floor in various locations.

Something is cooking away above the fireplace, and smells rather appetizing. Your stomach growls loudly, you hadn't quite realized how hungry you are. Thirsty as well. Your host ask in an unassuming voice. “Can I get you anything? I have a water condenser and there is a pot of stew on the fire.” You take a seat in one of the available chairs. “Both sound wonderful, and some for my companions as well if it's not too much trouble.” To be honest, you're mainly curious to see how this thing eats. You don't see any sort of mouth on it.

While the man busies himself fixing you all glasses of water you transmit to Darzi the goings on so far. {He's speaking Rhynian, well, a dialect of it at least. Fairly understandable. He's fixing us water and stew. We're on a world called Umdnus. Apparently it's a real pit. We're going to leave as soon as we're able.} She nods her head in response, and a moment later your host returns with a tray of glasses filled with cool, clear water. He hands one out to each of you, and then takes one for himself. Much to your surprise he simply reaches up and lifts the covering over his head as if it were a helmet. He has a mouth, nose, all that you would expect. His eyes are missing though. Instead thick clumps of wires enter his head where his eyes should be. He also has an array of scars on his face, all of them orderly and symmetrical.

“The soup will be ready in a moment.” His voice sounds remarkably normal without the helmet on. “I suppose I can answer any questions you five have, though don't just flood me here. I'm not some omniscient being.”

Chryssa is the first to speak. “What is that city in the distance?” The man shrugs. “It's simply referred to as 'The City'. Been there as long as anyone's been alive, except for the King. The King is older than anything else on this world, more powerful too. Some say he's actually some sort of otherworldly entity, trapped here by some unknown force. I think that's a load of hogwash though. If anything we've had several kings and they've all just claimed to be the same asshole.” You interrupt before he can go on a whole tangent. “What about the city itself? What is it like?”

He clears his throat. “Right, well. You've got your districts. Red, Blue, Green, and White. Then there is the Tower, but we can get to that later. The Red District is entertainment. That's where you find your prostitutes, your casinos, your bars-” You note that Profectus seems to be paying rapt attention. “-so on and so forth. It's the scuzziest, most dangerous part of the city and I wouldn't fuck anyone in there with a rented dick, let alone my own.” How does one go about renting a dick? What?

“The Blue District is your business district. It's your highrise apartments, your corporations-” What on Earth is a corporation? “-your supermarkets-” What on Earth is a supermarket? “- you know the rest. It's safer than the Red District, but instead of getting shanked and robbed in an alley you'll get scammed out of all your legal rights and kidnapped for use as a human...” He pauses, looking at the five of you. “Okay, maybe not human. You'll just be test subjects.”

(1/3 or 4)
>>
“Now, your Green District is your residential area. Houses, Mom and Pop Shops, normal apartments, gardens, parks. All that tourist-y bullcrap basically that you'd take little kids to. Heard there is a pretty sweet amusement park too.” So much of this terminology is just going over your head, you hate this. “Kind of boring besides that though. This is the area you're least likely to be attacked in overall.”

He leans forward and adopts an ominous tone. It's pretty easy to do when instead of eyes you just have wires protruding from empty sockets. “Lastly there's the White District. This is your religious district. It's all churches, cathedrals, shelters. Sounds great, right?” You nod your head slowly. “Absolutely wrong. Abject shithole. If you walk into the wrong part of the White District wearing the wrong religious symbol you are going to be lynched, just flat out. Don't go here.” What's lynching?

Profectus speaks next. “What about the woods? You mentioned Geist? What is a Geist?” Your host changes gears, leaning back casually into the rocking chair he sits in. “Geist are... hard to explain. They come in many shapes and sizes. Some of them are wrought from flesh and bone, some seem to form themselves from the ethereal void, others are made of cold steel. They're the mutated remnants of wildlife that remain after the Mutagenic War. That was eighty years ago, mind you, so we still haven't really recovered. The City Dwellers patrol these parts from time to time and cull any geist that wander these parts, but the woods are a wild land. Just avoid them, trust me.”

(2/3 or 4)
>>
Fulvia ask her question next. “Who are you? What are you? How are you able to survive as a partial construct?” He looks at her oddly for a moment, and then realization dawns on him. “Riiight, you're not from here. Locals call me Burnout. I got banished from the City after I stole some shit from a pawn shop. I don't regret it though, I really needed that processor and this is a pretty nice place, once you get used to it. I'm at home here, at least. The implants were just a result of my job. Before this, I was a scavenger. I delved the Remnants to look for valuable scraps.”

He holds up a finger, indicating for you all to wait while he gets up and begins fixing bowls of soup. He comes back with a fully loaded tray, six bowls of still steaming stew sitting atop it. It gets passed around and everyone takes one, before eventually arriving back in Burnout's lap. You take a few hesitant bites, finding the food bland but not unsatisfying. “So, Burnout...” You begin. “Want to see a magic trick?”

He pauses, spoon in his mouth. After a moment he pops it out and shrugs. “Sure, you got a deck of cards or something?” You grin. “Not exactly.” You create a burning globe of fire, hovering just a few feet in front of your face. You make some portions hotter than others, creating color differentiations and making it all the more interesting to stare at. He leans in, observing it for a few moments. He even goes so far as to flip his helmet down to stare at it through the various lenses attached to it.

(3/4)
>>
“How do you do that?” He ask suddenly. You shrug. “It's as simple as breathing. Are you telling me your people don't know how to manipulate vys?” He shakes his head slowly. “The hell is vys?” Come to think of it, what is this 'hell' he keeps referring to? “It's the life force in all things, which pervades the world. You're really telling me you don't know what it is?” He starts to shake his head, then snaps his fingers suddenly and flips his helmet back up. “There's mention of a 'life energy' in some old tomes, but it's only in relation to the 'Visitors'. Light-skinned humans in archaic garb with strange capabilities. You must be from the same world.”

At some point I think we'd all really like to see your notes and things for the quest.
>>
>>32546811
He'll show it to us eventually.
Once we inevitably die.
>>
We should try to get an engineer.
>>
>>32548152
why
>>
>>32548395
Why not?
>>
>>32549665
Why did you bump this, retard?
>>
>>32549851
You stupid double nigger, why didn't you use sage if you're so worried about bump limit.
>>
>>32549851
What's with the all butthurt?
>>
>>32550015
But I did, asswipe.
>>
>>32549665
I imagine there would be a lot more useful people than engineers to bring back.
>>
>>32551117
>More useful then the people who know how to build the tech.
Who would be more useful than that?
>>
>>32551097
Almost forgot sage doesn't show up anymore.
>>
>>32551188
mages
warriors
almost anyone
>>
>>32551404
>mages
>warriors
>almost anyone
People here are have no magical talent and they all probably suck in a fight.
>>
>>32551459
then why bring anyone back?
>>
>>32551486
An engineer or scientist would be very helpful for building an airship.
>>
>>32551521
Ooooor we could use magic.
>>
>>32551559
or fuck that we could bring back advance weaponry like guns and shit. this has to be the friends that gave rynhians w.e the fuck thier guns. and it seems our friend has a rifle.
So long as they have something more advance less kick back more aim. we could be the information to make bullets and a snipe for chys and a better gun for us.
>>
>>32551559
You do realize Rhynian artifacts relied on a combination of technology and magic that's why they were so powerful.
We also lack all of the knowledge to make enchanting useful.
>>
>>32551627
how many engineers are you planning to bring back here?
>>
>>32551661
We only need one good engineer.
>>
>>32551404
Well yeah but I mean, we could always get that back home too. Getting someone with advanced tech knowledge would be preferable. A constant supply of bullets for example would be invaluable especially now we have 2 pistols.
>>
>>32551679
I don't think you know how engineering works. Hint: Iron Man movies are not an accurate portrayal.

>>32551685
Aren't those like some kind of insane alchemical magic bullets? We'd be more capable of reproducing those than anyone from this world.
>>
>>32551735
Except people here do make bullets and no they are not magical. Do you ever follow this quest?
>>
>>32551661
why the fuck do we need to bring a person back. I say just BUY the shit that we need out right.
We can buy information if anything.
But that seems like a whole waste of time. like being on a mission to create more bullets. we get to a dealer and have em upload that shit into fulvia. and with her metal magic.

WHICH btw we never asked fulvia about guns.
>>
>>32551769
Read every thread! Based on this post though, either you don't read the opposing argument, or you're retarded! Which one is it?
>>
>>32551802
Hey man I agree. I don't want to bring anyone back either. My post was saying that in a "You'd have to bring back way too many engineers than is feasible to accomplish these weird plans." kind of way.
>>
>>32551804
>https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/loaded-question
Alchemy in this quest is just glorified chemistry.
>>
>>32551850
You honestly think I want to make them build our shit. Fuck no. I want them to teach us.
>>
>>32551870
>World where magic exists and is used in almost everything
>Alchemy is just mundane chemistry though

You may be selling here but I'm just not buying.
>>
>>32551919
The guns originated from witch hunter central. If you followed the quest you would understand that.
>>
>>32551911
So let me get this straight. You want Mik to learn engineering. All the different types of engineering, no less. On top of Vys manipulation, and all the elements we are currently overloaded with and struggling to learn in time. Let's not forget we're going for Enchanting too, which will be even tougher because we're pretty much the only one who can do it. Oh, and this is all while we're already insane and going more insane.

I don't think you thought this through.
>>
>>32551965
Out of the two of us, I'm not the one looking like he doesn't follow the quest.
>>
>>32551735
>insane alchemical magic bullets

They're regular bullets, we needed to find an alchemist to mix the powder and an armorer to cast the bullets though. Plus we had to figure out the powder's composition in the first place. That's where the alchemist was needed.
>>
>>32551984
I never building an airship would be easy I said it would worth it.
>>32552005
It was explicitly state that the guns were invented in Aleamond and it was also stated that they don't use magic. How do you think that works?
>>
>>32551911
>So let me get this straight. You want Mik to learn engineering. All the different types of engineering, no less.

FUCK no at best have them upload information into fulvia.
thats the most i am willing to bargain with you on this.
I never want him to sit down and start learning shit about making guns or w.e the fuck it is you wantt him to learn.
Bullets at most if it's easily taught. so when fulvia goes bat shit crazy we can make our own. but even then that would just require at most nature/fire and metal. to find/gather and make our bullets for the guns we already own.
>>
>>32552066
Except your plan of building an airship isn't just not easy. It's impossible.
>>
>>32552337
It would be no harder to purely use magic to make an airship. And no it's not impossible.
>>
>>32552066
>>32552055
Ok, looked through the archives a bit and I'm too lazy to find the thread where it showed the projectiles fired were some weird tubes full of magic shit.

So in conclusion, you guys are tards, bye.
>>
>>32552463
We channeling vys to empower the bullets you tard.
>>
>>32552461
let me just refer you back to >>32551984
it's impossible
Mik can't learn all that different shit
this isn't marvel and he isn't tony stark
>>
>>32552506
This also isn't real life so we don't have the limitations.
>>
>>32552066
>It was explicitly state that the guns were invented in Aleamond and it was also stated that they don't use magi
thats a load shit. But I will eat my words if you can prove it.
>>
>>32552525
Apparently >>32551984 was not clear enough for you.

We are already struggling to learn all the different ways to manipulate vys. 40+ threads in and we aren't grandmaster in a single element.

We also have up to 22 points worth of stuff to learn in our backlog of books which we are already going through at a snails pace.

On top of this we just picked up the capability to enchant recently, which presumably will be even harder to learn because no one can teach us.

And finally, on top of all this you want to slow us down even more by learning all the types of engineering necessary to build an airship?

No. Go away.
>>
>>32552608
Enchanting was harder than engineering. Many of their enchantments would require multiple enchanters to pull off.
>>
>>32552675
Sounds like the way multiple engineers work together in teams to design products.

Thread 11.

------------------------------------------------------

>>30716792
so how hard would it take a black smith to make the bullets, find black powder, and find the right mixture of black powder?

Soma >>30716850

>Find cartridges/black powder
Pretty damn hard. Something tells you that while firearms weren't just terribly uncommon, only the upper echelons of the command staff had them.

>Find someone who could make bullets.
Not that hard. As long as you had one bullet left, it would be pretty easy to fashion a mold for it.

>Figure out how to make black powder.
Damn near impossible without the right equipment or extensive experimentation.

------------------------------------------------------

Next time learn to read before you talk shit like retards.
>>
>>32552708
Pretty much. AI cores were also made this way.
>>
>>32552767
My point was that engineering didn't seem to be easier than enchanting at all. There's nothing to suggest it isn't just as hard, if not harder.
>>
>>32552723
>Thread 11.
doesn't mean shit to me. where did soma say they invested it?
>>
>>32552979
Oh, you're retarded, my bad, I thought you weren't an idiot.
>>
Rhynians were given examples of firearms from an unknown force known as 'Allies' and then they fashioned their own versions of these weapons, the one's you've found so far are fairly primitive and not at all on par with the Ally Pistol Sadik showed you.

Airship are possible and have been used in the past, though it would be more feasible to salvage one than try to build one solo or with your small party. You'd need to hire architects, engineers, other vatis, and purchase the raw materials. It would be a massive undertaking more suitable for a guild/corporation/mercenary band/whatever than a party of adventurers.

Alchemy, while incorporating many magical elements, is based on actual chemistry.

You haven't heard anything about Aleamond having firearms. You heard that they rediscovered the crossbow.

Learning every field of engineering or even a single field wouldn't really be practical in the amount of time you'll likely be here.

The projectiles the officer's pistol shoots are simple cloth cartridges filled with a grainy black powder and capped with cloth and a round, lead ball. You tear open the side and stuff it into the barrel, then light a long rope wick to ignite the powder and fire the bullet. Channeling fire magic into the pistol seems to imbue the shot with more power than it has any right to have.

You have no way of knowing whether or not Fulvia would be compatible with these people's constructs or whether they would find her an enigma wrapped in a riddle.

Anyway, no quest today but I figured I'd pop in to answer some questions/resolve some disputes.
>>
>>32552767
>. AI cores were also made this way.
nah they were made by a grandmaster enchanter, trying to revive his dead wife.
>>
>>32553455
>nah they were made by a grandmaster enchanter, trying to revive his dead wife.
Soma also said they were made by a group of enchanters.
>>
>>32553190
I refer you to >>32553303
You fucking massive idiot.

Its like reading is something you can never quite grasp.
If you were right I would be willing to " eat my words" but no your just a huge dick head.
>>
>>32553701
That's okay, you can eat some shit instead. I don't who else you've been arguing in your attempt to show the world retards can post too, but there's nothing in Soma's post that makes me wrong.
>>
>>32553492
Fulvia said that 'computors' were made by groups of enchanters working together. She said the gems used to make AI cores were all created by one man.
>>
>>32553840
>You haven't heard anything about Aleamond having firearms. You heard that they rediscovered the crossbow.
Are you retarded?
>>
>>32553840
see

>Rhynians were given examples of firearms from an unknown force known as 'Allies' and then they fashioned their own versions of these weapons, the one's you've found so far are fairly primitive and not at all on par with the Ally Pistol Sadik showed you.

>Rhynians were GIVEN EXAMPLES
>FASHIONED THEIR OWN VERSIONS
>RHYNIANS
>NOT ALEAMONDIANS

This argument is related to your post here: >>32552066 where you said
>It was explicitly stated that the guns were invented in Aleamond and it was also stated they don't use magic.
>Explicitly stated
>Invented in Aleamond.
That is patently false.
>>
>>32553902
>>32553957
I don't give a fuck about Aleamond, refer to my point - I'm not the guy arguing about where pistols came from. I was saying there's nothing exclusively magical about them or the bullets so we can learn the recipes and how to make them here in techland.
>>
>>32553840
You can't read you must be black
>>
>>32548395

For the Airship
>>
Does anyone here think these people have Virtual Reality technology.
>>
>>32555834
Probably, maybe something like that Rhynian training simulation where we learned small unit tactics.
