You are Carmen May and its early morning, the sun hasn't risen yet and you hear birds still chirping outside of the window. Your bed is strangely hard and wooden from the usual fluffiness when you suddenly realize that you're not in bed at all, you're on the floor. You get up and wonder how you ended up on the floor when the answer to your question comes into view.

Ugh Gail took up the entire bed, the big oaf. Even worse she's still asleep. You briefly reflect on what happened last night, oh yeah you got beaten up by the guy from Twilight, then you fell asleep while Beatrice, Emma and that girl from the church were fussing over Jessica. You shake your head and then glare at the still sleeping form taking up your entire bed, suddenly a thought pops into your head and a wicked grin forms on your face.

---

After a rowdy morning of you and Gail bickering back and forth while Beatrice, Emma and Jessica standing on the sidelines, Gail finally takes her leave albiet with smugs of black marker still left on her cheek from when you drew all over her face this morning. Emma takes her leave as well, saying she has business to attend to with her pack, she kisses Beatrice on the cheek before saying her goodbyes. Jessica sits nervously at one of the tables looking keeping her eyes on the table, you think she probably wants to leave too.

She looks between you and Beatrice until she finally found the words she was looking for. "....am I allowed to leave too? Or do I know too much?" she says quietly you almost couldn't hear the last part of her question. Beatrice frowns apologetically to the woman. "I'm afraid we can't let you go, at least not alone. You're still a target after all." she clasps her hand on your shoulder. "However Carmen here will escort you wherever you go. At least from a distance." Beatrice hands you a holster with a gun inside of it and a knife, she's pretty serious about this. You, being used to this voluntold thing silently take the holster and strap it to yourself, next you take the knife and stash it in your boot. You figure that you should probably wear a jacket from now on as well.

Beatrice continues, "You're free to leave and explore, but I want you back here in time for the meeting." Jessica looks up in surprise. "What? W-why do I have to be there? Should I even be there? I'm just a normal human..." Beatrice shakes her head. "You were clearly important enough to have that many members come and retrieve you, especially since they sent someone powerful enough to be able to glamor himself. So I consider you a key person in all of this. Get used to it." Jessica glares at the both of you. "If I'm not a prisoner, then I should be able to leave on my own, I'm not going to be escorted around like this." she gets up and storms out of the bar.
>>
>>32529661
Beatrice sighs and gives you the look to go after her. Before leaving you grab a jacket that adequetly conceals your piece and run after Jessica.

It doesn't take you long to catch up to her, as she's on her way to the University. When you tap her on the shoulder, she whips around and gives you a cold glare. "What do YOU want?"

>I'm doing my job.
>Stay silent, glare at her back even.
>Apologize for Beatrice, she can be really crass and forceful
>Ask her how she's doing.
>>

You figure being rude back wouldn't really be effective in this situation, as you do have to be around her until the end of the day at least. So you try to level with her.

"Sorry about Beatrice, she can be pretty forceful, and annoying and she often tells me to do things without explaining anything." you laugh. "But anyway, how are you doing? Being enthralled doesn't seem like its fun."

She continues glaring at you for a few seconds until she realizes that your positive demeanor is taking the wind out of her sails. She breaks off the stare and looks at the ground.

"I-I'm doing ok...I guess. I can't believe that almost happened to me though. I can't even remember what happened after I started talking to him...its honestly frightening." she looks back up at you and smiles. "And Vampires? Really? Even my freaking roommate is a vampire?" you laugh along with her. Everything does sound really out there almost as if it was some kind of movie.

The both of you continuing talking and laughing on the way to the university, as she wants to change into some clean clothes. She invites you inside of the dorm where lucky for you it seems like Gail hasn't come back yet.

Not before long, a fresher looking Jessica arrives and sits on her bed. "So you pretty much have to follow me around all day. So why don't we do something fun?"

>Lets go to the movies

"So what kind of fun are we talking about here?" you give her a suggestive smirk and she throws a pillow at your face. "Not that kind of fun." she says with a smile.

"Ok ok sorry, but what kind of stuff do you like to do? I think there's a carnival in town right now or we could go the park?" you throw out some suggestions. You're kind of eager for a relaxing day for once.

"The carnival sounds good. I haven't been to one in a long time." she gets off the bed and starts getting together some of her things. As soon as she's ready, the both of you head out to have a day of fun.

Arriving at the carnival you find that you can't stop grinning so excitedly, its been a while since you've had a day off, well sort of and even longer since you've ridden a roller coaster. It seems like Jessica can sense your sense of excitement. "So what do you want to do first?"

Your first reflex is to try to go for the roller coaster, but looking at Jessica...well she is cute..and you might have a chance with her yet. And so you've decided. "Let's play some carnival games. I bet I can win some pretty awesome prizes." Jessica nods "Well lead the way, miss vampire."

You try to scope out some games that look like they'd be easy to win despite being rigged, you do have superior strength to a human after all you can probably easily knock down any bottles that are weighed down or something.

And there it is, the baseball game. The prizes vary from small stuffed animal to massive stuffed animal, your goal is to get the biggest stuffed animal you can win. You pay for three throws. Better make them count. Knocking down the bottles on the top shelf yield the biggest prizes, while the bottom shelf bottles only yield small pathetic stuffed animals.

Having a feeling of pure machismo. You decide to go all top row all the way. And so your first throw was only average. It only nudges the bottle slightly, which is disappointing its a given as its a carnival game. You do feel slight satisfaction at the booth owner being surprised that you even nudged it. So there's that at least.

Your second throw was leagues better. You manage to topple the thing down. "Ha! I got it!" you feel a great sense of superiority while the booth owner attempts to stealthily check if he weighed down the bottle properly. Serves him right.

The last throw however, kind of just lazily hits the bottle, not even nudging it like the first throw and nowhere as good as the second. Slightly disappointing end but you did win one of the biggest prizes. A large stuffed panda. Jessica laughs at the fact that you can't even see over the huge toy. "Wow, you were pretty good at that. Did you play softball or something in high school?" you grin. "Nope. I'm just a natural." you offer her the panda "You can have it...I mean if you like it and stuff...I can always win another one" you awkwardly babble.

Jessica frowns "Its kind of too big for the dorm..." ouch.

>Move on to the rides. The roller coaster will sooth your pain
>The Panda needs some friends, play more games

Your ego may be a little bit wounded, but not that wounded. You and Jessica make your way to the biggest roller coaster in the Carnival. After a while of many kids and even some cute girls admiring your massive panda, its finally your turn. You both excitedly get on the ride despite the large teddy bear having to sit in your lap. You briefly question the safety standards of the roller coaster since the ride operator let you on with it. But its too late to back out now since the ride is now in motion.

At times you feel Jessica's hand firmly grip yours as the coaster went through the loop de loops. The prize thing didn't work out, but at least this did...sort of. But still you had a good time with the ride even if it takes more to get the adrenaline pumping through you.

The ride ends and there's an option to purchase a photo of the participant's reactions. Jessica laughs as she points out that you're completely obscured by the massive Panda, so it just looks like she's riding along with a stuffed panda. You both laugh for a while and she even buys the photo.

You completed two of your goals at the carnival...sort of.

Surely even our wayward protagonist can put the moves on successfully in there. If there's any hope in the first place.
>>
>>32531896
Ah, alright.
>>
>Go through the haunted house.

As you were about to walk past the haunted house, a devious plot pops into your head. "We should try out the haunted house, you know to see if its scary." smooth one.

Jessica nods agreeably. "Alright. Carnival haunted houses are usually pretty cool. Let's go." you grin as the both of you make your way through the spooky mansion. Unfortunately, your plan sort of just backfires. She just ends up laughing at some of the decorations, and never mind the fact that some of the displays are broken. The mummy that's supposed to shoot right up when you walk on a certain area just sort of lays there groaning and mechanically moves its arms. You don't even want to mention the corny dracula area of the mansion. It was great comedy and despite that, Jessica does lean on you, to hold herself up during fits of laughter.

By the time you make it out of the haunted house, its late afternoon, the sky is crimson. Jessica frowns which makes you frown. The meeting looms over both of your heads. You especially are dreading it.

"We should get going, we don't want to be late." you say in a disappointed tone. Jessica clasps down on your shoulder and gives you a quick peck on the cheek. "Thanks for everything Carmen. You didn't have to be nice to me at all and I'm sorry I was such a jerk to you this morning" she smiles brightly at you.

You do everything in your power to not blush, but fail "I..um, lets go." you say awkwardly.

Its about to get dark when the both of you finally make it back to the bar. Since its a meeting between Vampires, Emma is gone for tonight so that pretty much leaves Beatrice alone at the bar. Cleaning up and sorting some of the alcohol. "Oh, you guys are finally back." she greets. Jessica just lets out a hmph and sits down at one of the tables while you head over to the counter. Beatrice lets out a smirk. "I guess she's still mad at me right huh?"

Big update? Got quiet in here.
>>
"Duh, you were a jerk so naturally you should apologize. You did impose me on her all day without her consent." you say flatly, and then mutter "...not that I'm complaining or anything."

Beatrice gives you a knowing look. "I know, she's pretty cute right?" that sneaky bastard, you blush and quickly change the subject. "I'm getting nervous. When are they going to get here.". She eyes you for a second and answers. "Should be soon. Kwan will probably be the last one to arrive though, the vain moron."

Just as she finishes her sentence though, a large burly man with a wild head of red hair, a red beard in a suit walks in followed by a stern asian man with a large scar on his face with Gail nervously trailing behind them. "Aye so we finally meet again ol' Trixy!". Beatrice greets him with a cold glare, she doesn't like anyone who isn't Emma calling her that. The man laughs "Sorry lass! I thought you gotten soft when you finally sired someone!"

"Amusing, so how's your pretend army going Gilligan?" Beatrice asks. Gilligan lets out a big laugh. "Sharp tongue as ever huh lass?" he turns to you. "So what's your name lass? Yer an adorable one, I guess that also makes yer a dangerous one huh?" he laughs.

"I'm Carmen. Nice to meet you." you reply and then look over at Gail, who awkwardly waves before they all sit down at one of the tables. Poor Jessica looks absolutely nervous, so you go to sit next to her.
>>
>>32533657
Next comes the Church members, clad in their all black clergy outfits. The man leading them through the door gives you and Jessica a stern look and then goes over to greet Beatrice and Gilligan.

Beatrice smirks, "You must be the new guy, Christopher Hammond right? I haven't seen you around." he gives a wry smirk of his own. "Well we have been busy dealing with the mess you vampires have been creating. Now, is everyone here?" "Nope, I'd give Kwan another few minutes, he's always fashionably late."

As predicted, Kwan and his small entourage of vampires in suits walk in. He gives you the stink eye as usual before going over to Beatrice and says something inaudible. She nods and says something back to him that makes him visibly upset. Then he sits down with the rest of his entourage.

Beatrice makes sure everyone is settled in before speaking. "So in light of the recent developments pertaining to the kidnappings and the Armada cult, we finally have some sort of pattern involved with the human victims."
>>
>>32533680
"And what is that?" Hammond speaks. "Just because one girl has the makings of a mage doesn't mean the others do." Beatrice smirks. "And that's where you're wrong, they all have significant amounts of mana within them. Sure, not all of them have a prestigious background like Jessica over there, but most of them do have demonstrated some sort of ability involving magic."

"And so the question is, for what purpose do a bunch of rogue vampires want with magic?" Kwan says matter of factly. "He's right as much as I hate to admit it lass, We vampires can't access the root. We don't have any reason to as far as I'm concerned."

"Which is why I called you here, to discuss this. You can't ignore that connection, a strong one at that." Beatrice explains. "Anyway I don't see any of you with any leads."

The room goes quiet. She's right, nobody has come up with a lead until now, so as far as anyone is concerned, you and Beatrice are the only ones who did anything.
>>
>>32533705
The debate goes in for a little over an hour. The three power houses and Beatrice trying to come to some sort of conclusion using some of the leads they found. Armada's base of operations seem to be constantly changing. You're a bit shocked at how many abandoned factories they abandoned when Gilligan mentioned his part in the investigation.

You sit silently, wanting to say something, anything. You want to be able to do something.

>>32533922
You guess now is as good a time as any to speak up about what you've been thinking about, you stand up quickly, making the chair squeak and the room go silent. Looking around nervously, you feel quite a few glares on you. But its too late to go back now. "Last night, when those Armada guys tried to kidnap Jessica, there was a human there that looked really confident, it didn't look like he was enthralled or anything like those other humans that hang around Armada, but he just kept staring at me while I was fighting this Vampire that looked like Pattinson from Twilight.

He seemed almost superior to the both of us not to mention he just up and disappeared when Beatrice saved me" you pause, assessing the room "Maybe we're wrong about the top people in Armada being vampires. It doesn't make sense for vampires to be kidnapping specifically people with a lot of mana, and while we can't access magic they're probably working with someone, or some people who can. Maybe as some sort of big magic battery." you take a breathe. "I don't know why or how that would happen. I mean vampires and mages never really get along. But if its mutually beneficial, it might just work."

Kwan scoffs. "That's preposterous. I don't see a reason why vampires would try to work with a dirty mage."

Hammond though, looks absolutely pale. "I might. This is dreadful. We can't let this happen." everyone turns to him.
>>
>>32534509
"They might be trying to reach the root." he manages to get out. "We have to go, now." Hammond stands up abruptly and rushes out of the bar with his entourage. Everyone worrying about his abrupt departure. You stand there dumbly. "What's the root?"

Beatrice sighs, "I'll explain later, but right now, I think we have a new goal." Gilligan and Kwan look grim. "Yes, we have to find their hideout and soon." They both stand up to leave, with determined looks on their faces, well except for Gail who looks just as confused as you feel.

With everyone but the three of you gone, you kind of just awkwardly stand there. Jessica looks scared, seeing as she has no idea what's going on.

Having no idea what to do, you decide to try comforting Jessica. "It wasn't so bad. I mean nobody tried to eat you right?" you joke trying to lighten her mood. "What that guy from the church said, about the root...Never mind thanks Carmen but I'm ok." you see Gail awkwardly lingering around the bar, then she heads towards the table you're at. "What's all this stuff about the root? Everyone looks pale, well paler than normal." you frown "Why are you asking me for? And why are you still here? Shouldn't you go with Gilligan?" Gail grins. "He told me to stay here and do whatever Beatrice says since I did pretty good yesterday and besides I haven't been able to see how my favorite roommate is doing all day."

Jessica laughs. "Thanks Gail, but I'm fine. But what is going to happen to me? As much of a good escort you are Carmen, you can't keep following me around forever." she's right, so you look over at Beatrice. "So now that everyone is gone, what the hell is the root?"
>>
>>32535538
Beatrice thinks for a while, trying her best to explain it simply. "The root...its like some kind of record of the earth, basically it records everything that has occurred. Think of it like some all encompassing database of sorts. Many magi have hopes of reaching it somehow. Many believe that by reaching it they can potentially become some kind of god, some of the more delusional ones are probably trying to see if they can rewrite or erase some of the records."
Major questions come to the forefront of your mind as you attempt to figure things out.

>So why would they want to try to reach the root?

"So vampire would provide raw material for a magician spell that theoretically can access the root and in exchange they get information or some modification to it of their own, is the current hypothesis?"

>>32535556

Fuck yeah infodumpan

Oh, I figured Beatrice was gone too since it said 'everyone but you three'.

My bad, I didn't notice that while I was typing furiously

I'm gonna go sleep, thanks for running.

"So why do they want to try to reach the root? If so many try and fail, we don't really have anything to worry about right?" you ask. Beatrice shakes her head. "Who the hell knows what Magi ever do. Anyway, many try and fail yes, but with the massive amounts of kidnapping that's been going on we may very well be facing a mass sacrifice situation. Magi aren't really known for being tactful, thoughtful researchers that value ethics or anything." Geez Beatrice really seems to hate magi.

"What makes Vampires so disconnected from magic?" you're definitely curious about this one, that Pattinson guy clearly had a glamor of some sort on.
"Vampires aren't really alive in a sense, I'm not sure if its a curse or if its just in our nature, but we just sort of walk on the border. Tons of Magi are actually offended by our existence, as we're in no way connected to the root."

That might explain some of the disdain she holds for magi. Beatrice continues. "Anyway if you see that human again, try to catch him somehow. I don't care how, break his legs or something and drag him here if you have to." she sighs, "We have a lot to do tomorrow, so you guys should get some rest." Gail pipes up. "But what about me and Jessica?" "Just sleep here tonight, the last thing you two want is to get jumped on the way back to your dorms."

Gail laughs nervously. "Sleepover again?"

>Sorry, she's being a jerk again.
>Gail sleeps on the floor tonight.
>Glad we had some input

You are certain about one thing. Absolutely resolute about it. "Gail sleeps on the floor tonight." which gets a giggle from Jessica and a loud complaint from Gail.

----

"Ok let's go over this again." Beatrice states. "Carmen and Gail, you're going to investigate warehouse 34 near the pier. From what Kwan emailed me last night this was one of the first locations that Armada ditched." you nod, sipping on a blood packet as if it was a capri sun while Gail is still trying to figure out how you did it like that.

Beatrice then points at Jessica. "And you, you're going to stay here today. If a mage has been accompanying Armada's team of kidnappers then obviously they can figure out where mana is. So you're staying here." Jessica pouts but nods. Potentially getting sacrificed doesn't sound good at all. "Any questions?" Beatrice asks. Gail opens her mouth to talk but gets interrupted "Well good, then move out."

----
And so you ended up on the back of Gail's motorcycle. You secretly hoped that she had some sort of side car but no, you're hold on for dear life as she continues to speed after repeatedly telling her not to.

The both of you finally make it to Warehouse 34, as alive as you could be anyway. Gail looks at you for the plan of action.

>We should split up, we can cover more ground
>Stay together, Armada cultists can be dangerous
>Check around outside first.

Have Gail act as a lookout while we investigate with our blend in darkness power.

"Ok Gail, you'll be the look out in case the police or Armada or something comes." Gail nods. "Alright, but hold on one second." she reaches into your jacket pocket and fishes out your phone. She quickly inputs something and then gives it back. You put it back in your pocket. "Why did you do that? What did you do?" "I gave you my number. In case something happens."

Right, you forgot you didn't have her number and she doesn't have yours. "I'll be back, hopefully we'll find something here." And so you run off into the warehouse.

Thankfully, its pretty dark in here, so you use your ability to blend into the darkness. There's several containers still inside the warehouse, in addition to an office on the top floor. As well as a small security booth at the end. You don't sense any vampires here, and it doesn't appear to have any humans roaming around

>Check some of the containers
>Check the office, there might be some things left in there

Yes I forgot to mention. You brought it with you.

I'm sorry its abrupt, but I'm going to have to end it here.

I'll start the new thread tomorrow around the same time using the check the office result.

Again, I apologize. See you guys tomorrow
