Welcome to Academy City. The time is just afternoon, the weather is pleasant, and the date is August 18.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you have just made a pretty big purchase. It was a small share at Kongou Aviation and it cost a cool four million JPY, tax included. You think had decided that if you were going to invest it was better to have a solid foundation for now. Add on to the fact that Asuka was supposedly well acquainted with the owner’s daughter and the potential benefits of insider trading were too tempting to pass up. That would be another thing to add to your rap sheep, if you had one. Still, as you were now a shareholder, albeit a rather small one, you were entitled to exactly one vote in matters regarding the company’s board of directors and had a cut of some of the company’s income. It was a very small cut but you were high school student. Making that kind of money without lifting a finger was pretty nice. If things stayed as they were you might make the money back in a couple of months.

You were free this afternoon though. At 1800 you had to report in for some thug recruiter or something. The reason for this was that Nunotaba needed your help as an inside man to introduce a virus to some facility related to the Level 6 Shift. That was the plan. Hopefully it won’t go to shit too fast.

Still, you had an afternoon to go through. Further investment and the required research was certainly an option. That said you still had some work to do, and an investigation to complete. Apart from that it might also be nice to check in on Sparky, see how she’s feeling. However you certainly weren’t beholden to do any of the above if you really felt like it.

You decided to head to work. It was nice to be able to navigate the junkyard with your own two feet again and Number 3 might have more interesting things for you to do today. If not, you might as well look through some of his paperwork. It may hold a clue as to who was after your boss’ life.

Speaking of getting back on your feet, you wondered what Teacher was up to. He had promised kung fu lessons to you but was forced to leave the city. Thus you had to leave Academy City to be able to learn from him. You really couldn’t think of a valid reason to be allowed out of Academy City either, doubly so since you were an orphan, Child Error in common parlance. Wait, perhaps you could try for a spot on one of those school trips in early September? It was a long shot but it was something to think about. Academy City was not just your home. It was also your prison.

With thoughts of a trips abroad floating about, you arrived at the junkyard. Number 3 is for once in a while actually slumped over a desk grumbling about paper work.

“Afternoon,” you greeted him.

“Kyril, just the guy I need,” he looked up in relief, “I have so much to do today.”

“Well that’s why I’m here.”

“You’re just here to pay off the scooter,” he pointed out and got out of his chair, “Anyway, I have stuff that needs moving and I’m sure you’re cheaper than a certified crane operator. Then there’s a bunch of piping that needs to be cut down to size and I trust you enough with the power tools for that. Or if you were feeling merciful you could just do my paperwork for me.”

He led you out back towards the workshop area. There were a stack of pipes that were cut down to length of one and a half or two palms. You were sure Number 3 wouldn’t mind if you made some for yourself though. That said the lifting could probably give you an excuse to test if your powers had grown or not.

I'm trying to figure out exactly why this choice matter at all. I guess I'll just post my guesses as to what the differences between the choices are.

>>Work the shop
We get free pipes? I don't even know why we'd want them. Do we want them?
>>Get lifting
TK shenanigans
>>Paperwork
#3 likes us a bit more. Might be able to pull favors easier or something later on.
>>
>>32509103
Last time we worked the shop, we were able to scrap together a drill for the fight club job. I don't think there's anything we needed shop access for this time, but it could have been an option.
>>
You honestly had no idea what benefit you could come out from the pipes since it looked like tedious work. The paperwork was also boring, given your first hand experience with it, and you could probably look through Number 3’s records another time though you’d need a good excuse to. Thus you chose to do some heavy lifting. You noticed that your powers had gotten a little stronger and now it was time to test that theory.

“Alright, here’s the crane, there’s plenty of space so you probably can’t muck it up too bad,” Number 3 started.

You were standing before a pile of metallic cubes that lay strewn about in a lot. They were about waist height and looked quite heavy. Looks like they came out the ass end of a compressor and needed to be move deeper in to the junkyard where such things were neatly piled up. There was also a crane.

“How heavy are these things?”

“I’m not too sure, at least a hundred kg I’d reckon, maybe more?”

Nodding silently you lifted up one of the cubes. It wasn’t effortless, requiring some concentration on your part but it Number 3 was right then your Ability had gotten stronger. You threw it over to the designated area with an exaggerated arm motion.

“Oh right,” your boss smiled, “I keep forgetting you can just TK that stuff.”

“I don’t think I was this powerful though,” you replied.

“Well if you want to experiment then knock yourself out, as long as the stuff gets moved before the day’s out. I’ll get you a more precise measurement of the cubes in a bit.”

[1/2]
>>
>>32509731
Giving you a pat on the back, Number 3 returned to the office to get his paperwork squared away as you started moving the junk. They were certainly heavy and you weren’t able to lift them off the ground with your own hands. You were able to push them somewhat though. You had to stack them with your power, and once you had two of them together you were straining to lift and move them. It was easier to just throw them one by one, you figured.

A little experiment in adding more weight yielded the upper limit of your power. You apparently couldn’t handle more than two of the metal blocks at once. Lacking other sufficiently quantifiable weights, you couldn’t determine the exact upper limit but two hundred kilograms was plenty. It seemed that your ability to lift weight was inversely proportional to how fast you could move them. That said your control was still as the same regardless of how much you had on your plate. It was easy to spin them around and manipulate individual cubes with a good degree of control whilst in mid air. You also got to juggling them even. Balancing the corner of one on the tip of your index was child’s play, as was spinning it on the very same finger. Handling two separate cubes were still beyond you though.

It didn’t take long for you to finish though and Number 3 got back to you on the mass of the cubes. They weighed between 100 to 120 kilograms and your boss was kind enough to get you smaller quantifiable measures to grasp your upper limit of 232.44 kg of lift. Lift was a bit misleading though, since you were just applying a field of force in one direction. Anything above that and you wouldn’t exert enough force to move an object heavier than your upper limit.

The time is now nearing 1800, the weather is cooling, and the date remains unchanged.

With your work hours done, you gathered up with Sagara and Tadakuni at your place before you headed out to meet the contact. Before you left, did you take your gun with you?

The meeting was in one of the shadier districts so you thought a little .45 insurance was just what the doctor ordered. Stuffing the gun in your jacket, you promptly left. You thought it might be worthwhile to invest in a holster, and maybe an airsoft gun.

“You the ones Nunotaba suggested?” the recruiter asked.

“That’s us,” you spoke for the three of you.

The recruiter looked thuggish, like, if you looked like a thug then he was even more so. It must have been his skinhead accentuated with thick eyebrows with a square set forehead and jaw. He just gave you once over, merely nodding before turning his eyes on your friends.

“No, they’re definitely no good,” he finally said, “You though, you can go through.”

He gestured you over to the entrance to a warehouse behind him.

“What? Why?” you asked.

“You got good eyes and a gun,” the recruiter spoke, “Those two are baby-faced kids who’re just looking to bust in to the big leagues. You though, you’re the real deal.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Sagara could act tough when he tried.

“Look, kid, I don’t know about you but this isn’t some game we’re playing. Even if it is we’re playing for keeps, you dig?”

Yeah Nunotaba was right. These guys were a step up from normal thugs if you were reading him right. Killing was part of the job, if not required. You weren’t sure how your friends were going to deal with that, or the fact that you have killed. It was times like these you could use Kyousuke’s connections.

“Just give me one good reason why I should let you two in.”

>>
>>32512699
This is a security job. We're supposed to shoot it in the fucking face.

Well, it's not really a security job since we're just using that as a pretext to get in, but that's the basis they're judging us on.
>>
Sounds like what we are going to go for is something like.

"They have other skills such as being great at Recon work. Not only that but at least it would be another body in case we need it."
>>
>>32512339
Outline their skills and how they will be useful
>>
>>32512743
And security doesn't entail going full murderhobo on anything that looks suspicious. Anyone who actually worked security would know that much.
>>
>>32512784
It does in AC.
>>
We really shouldn't be talking about killing right now. That confrontation can wait.
>>
>>32512743
Yeah this. Using the other skill approach doesn't work all that well. Unless we bring up we have seen one of them being really good at sneaking up on people. So we could use them as hidden muscle but then that would be the same as saying there is the possibility they want to sneak in.
>>
>>32512795
Yeah got to remember we are in the dark side here. So if someone is fucking around a area we are guarding they most likely want them shot and their body dumped.

“We’re a team,” you said, “We work together, even if they may be cleaner than I am.”

“Well fuck your team buddy,” he replied, “Maybe they’re good, maybe not but ‘maybes’ just don’t cut it here.”

“At least try, it’s one more warm body right?” you argued.

“More like another dead body,” he sighed, “Look, whatever, you three go in but we’ll have to test you, if they don’t make the cut then it’s off with your heads. How does that sound?”

You had a pretty good hunch that this ‘test’ involved killing in cold blood and if they couldn’t do it then they were goners. They probably didn’t expect this kind of stuff when they signed on with you. You looked to your two friends.

“I’d rather keep my head then, sorry boss,” Tadakuni bowed out.

“Figured it’d be the sneak.”

“Alright, I’m in,” Sagara gave his answer, “Where ever he goes, I go. We watch each other’s backs.”

Not to say Tadakuni was a bad guy but you never really did expect him to kill for you. It wasn’t something you just up and decided to do. A part of you wasn’t surprised at Sagara’s decision.

“Watch each other’s backs in your own damn time, now get in,” the recruiter grumbled, “I swear this is the last time we take refs from that Nunotaba chick.”

The door slammed shut behind you and the recruiter led you to a shooting range. The far side had paper targets, black silhouettes on white. A press of the buttons and the targets turned around. The other side had men strapped to them, gagged, blindfolded and fully conscious.

“We were just going to check your aim but might as well do double duty while we’re at it,” he handed you each a pistol, “Ever heard of the Mozambique drill?”

Neither of you did.

“Two shots in the chest, one in the head, two if you’re good, get to it.”

You had made peace with killing already. That was why when you pulled the trigger you were bereft of any particular feeling. The deed had lost its horror, its excitement. Thus the only thing you did feel was purely mechanical. The gun’s recoil pushed the barrel up a tiny notch, well within acceptable limits. It was the third shot that needed correction to your aim to ensure the target was hit. Teacher had told you that when in doubt, double check. That was the fourth shot that hit the mark. Your drill completed, you secured the weapon and handed it back to the recruiter.

“Now that’s what I like to see,” he complimented, “Cool as a cucumber.”

Sagara took his turn and though his aim wasn’t bad you could tell he was only barely holding it together.

“Alright you pass,” he snorted, “Barely. Congratulations.”

Leading you deeper in to the warehouse, you were finally assembled in what looked like an old office with a screen. The screened was black with white “Sound Only” text written on it, a conference call.

“Slow Azai,” a female voice spoke.

“Sorry ma’am, new recruits had to do the screening,” he was awfully polite now.

“I suppose that could not be helped then, I trust they are prepared.”

“Yes ma’am.”

“Good, I have a need for a cleanup crew tonight. You will head out right away.”

With another, “yes ma’am,” the three of you hopped in to a black van parked on the premises and departed for the location.

The time is now night, the weather is stuffy, and the date remains unchanged.

The scene when you had arrived was that of a bunch of girls, some looked your age, standing over a bunch of suits. Most of them were dead and your job was to make sure they stayed down.

“Keep your head down and don’t hit on the girls,” Azai instructed.

You did manage to sneak a glance but you didn’t put much attention to it and did as you were told and so did Sagara. They were probably the “bigger fish” that Nunotaba had described though you weren’t expecting them to be your age. Then again an Ability User had many advantages that a normal person didn’t so it shouldn’t have been surprising that you’d find them doing some dirty work. If you thought yourself special in the past, now you didn’t. Idly you wondered what their Abilities were, if they had any. It’d take a special kind of kid to be Level 0 and hang with this crowd.

The girls left quickly enough and work was mostly silent thereafter. Bagging them up was easy when you didn’t need to touch them and another crew were going to scrub the place clean later so that was all you needed to do for tonight.

“Not bad for a few hours work huh?” Azai had handed you a pretty big stack of cash, “Tomorrow’s another big job. Show up at warehouse by 1800 or we leave without you.”

You gave a nod and left with Sagara.

“That wasn’t what I signed up for,” he finally said.

He had been silent the whole time, working mechanically.

You settled in his dorm room for a change. Surely enough he had some alcohol stashed away so while he busied himself in the bathroom you poured both of you a glass. You pretended to not notice the coughing and hacking. Sagara came out with a washed face and a new shirt. He took the offered drink without a word and gulped it down without a care before flopping down on his bed.

“Shit man,” he drawled.

Alcohol worked faster on him than it did you.

“How’d you do it man?” Sagara finally asked.

“Do what?”

“Just this, everything man.”

He was waving his arms as he lay back.

He snorted.

“And leave you alone again?” he scoffed at the notion, “What else are you keeping me safe from?”

Well there was the issue with the magicians but you weren’t sure it was the right time for that. With Sagara drunk he’d be inclined to dismiss it tomorrow morning as bullshit. It wasn’t like the knowledge was particularly useful or relevant in this case so far. Maybe some other day.

“Anyway can you do me a favour tonight?” he asked.

“Sure.”

“Stay the night.”

That and decent level espers are pretty much immune to the law. It's one of the reasons Asuka can get away with so much shit. While level 5s like Zeus and them are pretty much flat out immune to anything.

The time is now morning once again, the weather is cloudy, and the date is August 19.

You honestly wished you had more sleep but it looked like Sagara was feeling better now, if only a bit more sombre. Today, at 1800, you had an appointment with Azai. You were finally going to get in to the whole security gig like you were originally intent on. The killing and late night work was a bit needless you thought, especially since you dragged Sagara off in to it. So until then you were once again free.

You returned to your room for some breakfast. As well as discovering that some of your eggs had gone bad, you also got some mail. There was an envelope from Kongou Aviation, thanking you for your investment as well as a pair of complimentary coupons that offered a one-time discount for airplane tickets on a designated carrier that had ties with Kongou Aviation. Score! Speaking of travel, if you had the time, maybe you could ask your school about the field trips in September and how to get in on that if you wanted to go see Teacher. Other mail that you had received was also from Nunotaba and it was 100% more electronic. She had wanted to meet up, no doubt for job related reasons, but she didn’t really give a time so you assumed it was whenever you were free. Your fallback was of course to go to work, sleep in, do more reading or work out.

Well it was probably wise to hit up Nunotaba first. The job was the most important thing right now and you wanted to focus on it, like you had told Sagara last night. Speaking of which, Sagara was still sleeping soundly when you woke him up but it didn’t take too much effort to get your ramblers rambling. Thankfully everyone save Sagara had had breakfast already. You bought him some sandwich at a convenience store.

“So how was last night?” Tadakuni asked, “You guys came back so late I was already asleep.”

“Not fun,” Sagara whined, “can we not talk about it?”

“That bad huh?” Tadakuni confirmed, “Right well I suppose we should go see Nunotaba then huh?”

“I’m really curious though,” Kyousuke piped up.

“We’ll tell you later,” you replied.

“Can we please get off the topic already?”

“Alright,” Kyousuke shrugged, “Speaking of the job I got some neat maps and stuff, you aren’t getting lost in there anymore.”

“That sounds like a bit of good news then,” you told him.

Your arrival at Nunotaba’s was swift. Asuka was also already present. It looked they had just finished breakfast. Of course as you sat down you met her eyes as you both coincidentally spoke simultaneously.

“We may have a problem.” “We have a small problem.”

You are Shirai Kuroko, Level 4 Teleporter, roommate and one true love of Misaka Mikoto onee-sama. Her disappearance from the dormitory last night did not go unnoticed. You had covered for her, as you always had, but there was so much shower time recordings could do. Eventually the Esteemed Dorm Mother would get suspicious. Still that was not the problem. The problem was that your beloved onee-sama was troubled by something yet she was reluctant to ask for your help. You suppose that is one of her faults, childish taste aside, you’d have to live with.

Still she could be in all kinds of danger and trouble right about now. You knew full well that onee-sama tended to blow away her problem with brute force but this could very well be a problem that she could not. Given that she was still troubled this was a likely possibility. This surely fell within your jurisdiction, not only as a good kohai that supports her sempai, but also as a member of Judgement. Yes, that’s it. Now, since you were alone, in your room, you supposed that there was nothing wrong if you found some clues as you were cleaning through now would it? The question was now where would onee-sama put such questionable things if she had any?

Rolled 2

A tie? Right, now to see which prewritten part I have to trash.

1. Bear
2. Closet
>>
It was definitely not in the bear. Kirugumar wasn’t looking any different from normal and onee-sama had definitely not been acting suspiciously around it at all. Then it must definitely be in the closet. There were many sayings related to the closet after all, and it was your job, your duty to find out what it was. All for the benefit of onee-sama of course. There were no inherently impure thoughts or ulterior motives to your actions at all.

Your guess was spot on. Surely one such as yourself who knew your onee-sama so intimately could not possibly have guessed any different. It seemed to be a thick sheaf of papers with the words, “Project Radio Noise,” on the front. You’re not sure what that was supposed to do with onee-sama’s problem but looks could be deceiving. It looked like a research paper, given its thickness so you opened up to the first page, hoping to find an abstract. Instead you found a signed note.

“Dear Ma5ter5park,
“Here is a preview of my latest manuscript. I fear it may be my last so take care of yourself.
“Signed,
“Heart-Under-Blade”

So she was friend to a mangaka then? Whatever secrets would this manuscript then yield? Perhaps it would shed some light on her recent behaviour. You turned the page.

You suppose this was why hid it in her closet then. To think that your onee-sama had such adult vices, you could not possibly throw this away, even if the rules demanded that you do so. However you need to know more about this hidden side of onee-sama. Perhaps this common hobby of yours could bring you closer.

Information was key in a case like this and if these names, aliases, that both onee-sama and the author went by then surely you could look in to it. Thus you required an expert in such matters. You arrived in Judgement Branch Office 177 in time to see Uiharu ready to sign off for the day. No such luck for her though as you strong-armed her in to your quest for answers. To your surprise it seemed that she was no stranger to the mangaka.

“Oh if you’re talking about Heart-Under-Blade-sensei then you must be talking about her manga,” Uiharu exclaimed.

She had a tab open on some online manga. You snorted in disdain until she started scrolling through the scanned volume. It was surprising to say the least, that there would be porn starring that thuggish scoundrel. His friends were also featured, you recognised three of them. It was, erotic, enough to arouse even you but then again nothing ever quite compared to Misaka Mikoto onee-sama. Many people thought you were a lesbian but they were wrong. You just declared yourself incapable of loving anything else but your onee-sama. Besides you thought it rather disturbing that Uiharu, as well as your onee-sama, found pleasure in this. Truly it was a fearsome thing that needed to be destroyed.

You must hurry on your way to eradicate this root of corruption, stop it at the very source itself.

Striking at the source itself was vital. It may be too late now but surely you could halt it given a good enough reason. You were Judgement after all and it was your duty to censor this kind of corruption before it profanes even more minds. This, you Shirai Kuroko solemnly swore. Uiharu’s protests at your resolve were ignored as you forced her to look up the location of the artist.

Your passage was swift, and travel time was negligible when you were a teleporter. It didn’t take long for you to come across the source herself. Dressed in Gothic Lolita fashion, she sat in her chair. Behind her multiple screens shone brightly, nearly blinding you with the horrific displays of homoerotic debauchery you had laid eyes upon.

“So, it has come to this,” she spoke.

“Judgement, ですの!”

“Silly girl, there is no one who can stop me. Even The Queen, your Queen, is within my grasp, enthralled.”

“I will stop your corruption of minds both young and old if it’s the last thing I do.”

“It is fascinating isn’t it,” she got up, “How easily it is to control hearts and minds with simple art. How did you think I knew of your arrival?”

“No.”

“Yes,” she smiled deviously, “Her name was Uiharu was it? Even such a charming girl like herself was easily swayed. Today it is but Academy City, but tomorrow I shall have the world.”

“Not if I stop you from homologating villain.”

“What does my defeat matter? I am not some manga villain. Did you seriously think I would explain my masterstroke if there were even the slightest possibility that you could affect the outcome? I uploaded the final volume 35 minutes ago.”

“NO!”

“GAZE UPON MY WORKS YE MIGHTY AND DESPAIR!”

You had covered for her, as you always had, but there was so much shower time recordings could do. Eventually the Esteemed Dorm Mother would get suspicious. Still that was not the problem. Pretty much this. We would need magic to hurt him.

In theory though we could stop him at level 5 from killing us. Compress the Air around us into sheets at an atomic level. His base form can't reach too deep into that so assuming we move fast enough he shouldn't be able to hit us. Though we would die of lack of air eventually. Winged Accel would just rape us anyway by going though it.
>>
>>32521015
Right now you effectively have it set up so that reading a book for 1 hour gives us 1xp. The three upgrades available were +force (20xp), +manip. point (20xp), and +precision (15xp). The only difference between this and regular xp systems is that we pre-spend the xp as we get it by retroactively deciding what book it was we read.

As far as I can see, you've made the same mistake as BFQ. You tied skill progression to "sit around and read/study and miss out on interesting quest things and plot hooks".

Yeah, it's probably realistic at lower levels where abilities are rather limited that this kind of studying would give the best results, but you don't have to do it once we actually manage to complete these books we have. Don't just pile bigger longer books on Kyril. Sure, he can have a new stack for nightly/downtime reading in addition to his regular activities, but it needs to not be the main show in regards to progression.

If I were you, I would set up some broad stats or perks that are relevant to TK. Things like Force, Precision, Additional 'Hand', 'Hand' Size, Range, etc. And then some perks that show some specialization or neat tricks like shields, flight, increasing force by applying it in bursts instead of sustained, particle shenanigans( lv4 can mostly do it), that thing Unabara does, and whatever else really.

Once you have those, start putting xp into the relevant stats every time we do something. Fights, studying, dicking around with TK, etc
