You find yourself deep beneath an ancient pyramid, built long ago by a peoples long since deceased. At your side are your four companions: Annalise the Inquisitor of Light who recently came down with a bit of sickness that could do with some curing, Pietra the Revolutionist and conspirator in your plan to jointly seduce Annalise, Maurice the 'magician' who has in your presence lost more than enough lives to make a cat envious, and Kor who you aren't even sure is a human by her previous feats.

You stand in an earthen room with walls lined with frail looking people with pale skin, who all currently prostrate themselves before the glowing form of a large and muscular man in a loincloth with long blonde hair decorated with feathers. He crosses his arms smugly, greeting you.

"It would seem that you humans have hit, 'rock bottom'! As you have so handily dispatched my brothers, you must be entirely eager to come into my service."

Your comrades begin drawing weapons, but he seems uninterested in mundane steel and cantrips.

You bring your bare fists up. Your knuckles still show signs of the scrapes and cuts you received earlier today.

The man before you, the leader of the monsters who inhabited these pyramids, the man known as Leopaldo, smiles.

"I thought you might need some convincing. Very well. I will make one of you an example to the others. Any of you may attack me, don't be shy."

You bend down and scoop up a stone. Leopaldo watches patiently as you cock your arm and hurl it with full force. The stone sails through the air, colliding with his forehead, where it cracks into shards and falls to the earthen floor. A small trickle of blood spouts from Leopaldo's head, but he seems otherwise unaffected.

"Hm. I knew you humans were little more than apes, but I assumed you'd at least mastered metalwork by the time we'd woken up. I see you're still relying on rocks and sticks."

You sharply mock Leopaldo before moving into a dashing position. Your allies follow your lead, and the five of you rush at Leopaldo at once.

Pietra, being the swiftest, reaches him first. She swipes him a few times with her knives, creating shallow slashes across his creamy skin. She is batted away with one great slap. Kor reaches him next, and begins pummeling his bare chest with all the speed of a hummingbird's wingbeats. The impacts are loud and powerful, up until Leopaldo grabs her by the hair and hurls her at Maurice, knocking them both to the ground.

You reach Leopaldo alongside Annalise, and as you bash your fists and elbows against his stone-hard skin and Annalise raises her sword and begins swinging, Leopaldo seems to actually show signs of being pained. He reaches out and grabs the both of your head, cracking them together before tossing you to opposite sides of the room. You hit the dirt wall with a clatter and a thud, as well as a painful headache.

You rise back to your feet, just in time to see him walking toward Pietra.

You cry to your comrades, and they are inspired to gain a second wind by your boldness. Together you charge at Leopaldo once more. You reach him first this time, as you landed closest to Pietra. You take a swing and he catches your wrist, then swings you into Kor as she nears him. Your weight knocks her aside. Leopaldo then slams you into the ground and bends down, revealing a familiar mouth full of sharps rows of terrible teeth. As he comes in for a bite of you, something bursts through the back of his throat and nearly jabs you in the cheek. Leopaldo backs away and you spot Annalise holding on the the hilt of her sword as it pierces his neck. Leopaldo grabs her wrist and twists her arm until you hear a low popping noise, and Annalise cries out in pain. Leopaldo then turns her head aside and prepares to take a bite out of her instead.

"It shall be you then, human. You will become my sl-" These are Leopaldo's last words before a burning sensation rises from your stomach to your throat, then erupts through your lips. The flames burn your mouth, and your eyes begin tearing up. The gold flames spill out and onto the floor like water for a solid ten seconds. When the smoke clears and after a final smokey belch, you look down to see a corpse with nothing on it's shoulders. Instead there is a smoking bit of blackened skin that smells slightly of beef sausage. The muscles that hold you aloft still grip tight, but Leopaldo is slain.

The others pick themselves up now as well, and come to see your work. Annalise looks at the corpse with eyes full of wonder and terror. Maurice pulls a small notebook from his robes and begins jotting something down as he examines the corpse. Kor and Pietra are less interested.

"Well, I guess that takes care of that. Good job. Can we go home then?" Pietra looks around for the nearest way out.

You give up on the captives. It's clear to you that they are beyond help. Your comrades don't all agree, but neither do they question your decision.

The five of you begin searching for an exit. It seems the only way out of the room is to carefully climb back up the shaft you slid down, but it is a slippery and difficult trip. However as you discuss this, Maurice proposes a second option. He believes one of his remaining cards may provide help.

You give Maurice the ok to use his card. He draws his deck from his robes and shuffles it quickly before pulling the top card. It is wrapped in blue flames, and he lets it drop to the ground.

Suddenly the earth begins shaking violently, knocking everyone to the ground. The swaying and jerking motions of the ground force you to lay flat for fear of being tosses aside, and you can hear the pyramid above you beginning to crumble and tear apart. Maurice himself seems unphased, and in fact hovers just a half inch off of the floor.

The shaking lasts a good few minutes before there is a loud boom, and the ceiling of the chamber bursts open and rubble piles in, forming the vague shape of a staircase leading up into the light. You head up first, and emerge from the hole to see that the pyramids have been ripped apart, and that you now sit in more of a valley than a crater.

The others begin climbing out one by one, with Annalise going last. She must adjust her cloak to protect her from the sun, and also be careful not to look up or risk being splashed in the face by the light. When she finally reaches you, you help her out and hold her gloves hand as you and the others make your way to the treeline again.

Once you are back in the jungle, Annalise pulls her hood back and lets out an exhausted sigh.

She begins to protest, but then stops. She slowly climbs back out of her bed and approaches the fire, barefoot and sleepy. She takes a seat by the fire and gives you her attention. Annalise seems curious as well.

You pull down your shirt to reveal your shoulder. Annalise gulps, throwing a leg over your lap to straddle you. She examines your bare skin closely, sniffing it so quietly that you're sure she meant to hide it from you. You look away so as not to embarrass her, and there is a moment where you could swear she licks you before using a canine to prick your skin. She begins nursing as usual, wrapping her arms around you as she gently feeds on your vital fluid. You toy with her a bit, teasing her gently with your hands, but she doesn't release. In fact she seems to drink a bit more roughly when you do.

When she finishes, she finally pulls away and takes a deep breath as she licks her lips.

After a few more days, Annalise and Pietra seem to grow more chummy. By the time you reach the tiny village that your guide inhabited, they are walking nearly hand in hand.

At the village, the people welcome you warmly, especially when you tell them that you have slain the monsters deep within the jungle. They celebrate by replacing the food they stole from your wagon, and even giving you some strange flatbread to take with you. It is a bit tough, but very sweet. You hop back into the driver's seat.

The others go quiet. The rest of the day goes by in total silence.

You spend the next two weeks riding north from the jungles to the desert. You come to a watering hole where you pause to rest. It is here that Pietra approaches you.

"Kor's going back to Lumen if you don't convince her not to. And Annalise is still worried about her family. She can't choose between her family and you, and watching her try is breaking my heart. I'm with you, but if we're going to turn west we should do it soon. The closer we get to Lumen, the more chance they'll pick up on you, according to Annalise. Unless you want her to go there for her treatment."

You've put the decision off long enough. It is time to figure out what your next move is. You can risk your own hide to get Annalise healed up quickly, or you can try and follow Maurice's plan, which you are unsure of. Pietra crosses her arms and looks you dead in the eye, waiting for your response.

You decide that the best option now is to go to Lumen to heal Annalise, even if it means risking your own skin. Pietra nods, and agrees reluctantly. She stands on her toes to place a kiss on your cheek.

"If any of them get near you I'll kill them myself."

After you've all rested, you pile back into the cart and begin heading north again. The ride is more lively now that your decision has been made. Annalise seems to pick up on it, and has a much more energetic conversation with Pietra and Kor than she's had in weeks.

Finally, you reach the salt plains. The hardpan and jagged mountains of the desert turns into lush green grass and gentle hills. Even the air cools off. Annalise expresses her desire to sunbathe again, and shows Pietra how badly her skin has paled in recent time. You all joke and laugh, but at the same time there is a heaviness to the situation. You know that every step forward now is a gamble. The others do as well, with the possible exception of Kor.

It occurs to you now that you have been gone nearly a year. You wonder how much has changed. Sadly, you might never know.

She made the mistake of putting her hand out a bit too far to wave at some village children two days ago, and it burned her so bad she cried for nearly an hour.

The stars above you are so bright and numerous that it looks as though someone painted the sky.

There are a few images in your head that night. A field of sunflowers, and a great stone tower. A tree bursting with fresh fruit, and a massive bolt of lightning. The last thing you see before waking is a spider, carefully spinning a web into the shape of a blanket.

You wake suddenly. The world is still dim. It's not quite sunrise. There is a pain in your stomach. You look around and see a silhouette. It is tall and broad. Before you can focus on it, you feel something heavy hit your chest. You feel it. A sword. You look over to Maurice, who himself is waking, shocked and afraid. You look back up to the silhouette. You and Maurice jointly decide to hide out nearby, and hope for something good to come of this. You stay in the wheat field for a few hours more, until the beating of hooves passes again, and then a bit longer for good measure. Once you're confident, you peak out. All seems clear going both ways on the road. You both exit the tall grass and get moving. There is only one place you might be able to hide. A place that nobody could possibly know how to find, because you never told them how.
