Welcome to Academy City. The time is late afternoon, the weather is stifling, and the date is August 17.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and your heart just got jumpstarted by a familiar Level 5 Electromaster. Sparky, still in the maid costume, had apparently taken first-aid and knew exactly how to restart a stopped heart. You were lying on the floor of Aneue’s office, the carpet was rather soft, and your shirt was missing. Sparky probably removed it. Your last thoughts returned to you. It was a comforting thought that got your blood flowing. Asuka was clad in the Tokiwadai Middle School uniform pretty much every time you saw her. Seeing her in a maid uniform, especially one with a short skirt was rather exciting. It was probably why she had made you choke yourself until you lost consciousness and was probably clinically dead for a bit before Aneue and Sparky sprang in to action.

Speaking of which, Asuka was nowhere to be found. Sparky and Aneue were looking down on you. The former was half scandalised and half horrified whilst the latter just frowned intensely. It was probably the scars that crisscrossed the whole of your front and not the flab that you had accumulated in the wheelchair. You blinked once before Sparky, who was kneeling beside you, spoke,

“How many fingers am I holding up?”

She held up one hand, you counted five fingers.

Fun fact: When a male is choked, 99% of the time, they get a massive erection and will often ejaculate from the experience. There's some joke about gallows being the deadliest whore or something. I can't remember how it goes exactly.

Your comment on her panties made her shut her legs faster than you could say “priapism” and got you another dose of electroshock therapy. To be fair she was wearing those shorts of hers and all you saw was pure white. You don’t think she really was the type to have those kinds of underwear. Asuka probably did though and given your Ability it would have been child’s play to flip up her skirt. Now that you thought about it you never really did try flipping a skirt with telekinesis before. Another jolt of electricity ran through you, derailing your train of thought.

“P-p-pervert,” Sparky huffed.

“Don’t be too hard him,” Aneue’s frown lessened slightly, “It is said that feelings of arousal are heightened by hypoxia via strangulation.”

Sparky only had to glance at your lower body before jumping so far back that she hit her head on Aneue’s desk.

“This is kind of embarrassing,” you admitted.

“Since it looks like you are fine now may I care to know what the purpose of your visit was?” Aneue asked.

“I was worried,” you got up, “Where’s my shirt?”

Sparky tossed it at your face, intending to hit you with it but you easily unfolded and slipped in to it. Huh, you’ve never been able to do that before. At least not that well.

“For good reasons I hope,” Aneue warned.

“Very good reason,” you confirmed.

The last time she stopped taking calls her father came after you. Her father and you didn’t get along too well. If Aneue wanted to continue that line of questioning she would have to waiy. Asuka burst in to the room again. She was wearing her uniform now though.

“I assumed you wished to talk to me dear?”

The fact that you may have been dead briefly was ignored.

“Yes, it’s,” you eyed the other two in the room, “rather private.”

“Well as long as it doesn’t involve your privates then I suppose you’re free to go," Aneue finally said.

>>
>>32419759
With a promise to talk to her later, probably regarding your scars, you left swiftly with Asuka.

“I am curious, how much enjoyment did you derive from that bit of service?” Asuka asked once you were both alone.

We could probably ask the same thing to her, though I probably should have known she was the type to attempt to 'display' Kyril to Sparky.

The time is now sunset, the weather is cooling and the date remains unchanged.

“Aside from the choking-myself-to-death bit I’d say I was very excited,” you return with good grace, “The autoerotic asphyxiation was a nice touch.”

“Then I am glad you enjoyed it as much as I did,” she hid her laugh behind a smile, “Still I doubt this was a social call.”

“Nunotaba has some work for us, well me, THIEF sanctioned an all,” you started, “It’s an offer I can’t refuse.”

“I suppose the live adaption of Fowl Gods is happening then,” Asuka joked, “Shall I inform The Queen of this most marvellous piece of news?”

“I love you Asuka so please don’t remind me about that,” you pleaded.

“You really do know how play dirty,” she took it with good humour.

“Well I could show you.”

“Maybe later.”

You two were the last to arrive at Nunotaba’s place. The rest of the Problem Children had already gathered there and were rightly making a mess of her living room. Tadakuni was fiddling with her six point sound system and dropping the bass hard enough to make you feel it in your chest. If it was bad for you then Sagara had it worse, seeing as his hearing was extra sensitive. He was curled up on the couch shooting death glares at Tadakuni who used his Ability to remain conveniently unaffected. Kyousuke was hiding under a pile of books which upon further inspection looked like yaoi manga. A tipped bookcase was the cause and probably not because Kyousuke was secretly gay. He looked to be unconscious.

Nunotaba was in the kitchen, seemingly oblivious to the antics of your crew.

“あっ, dinner shall be ready in a moment,” she greeted, “Can you please set the table whilst I finish up here?”

You grabbed a pile plates with your mind, the cutlery in your hands and did as she asked whilst Asuka moved to help Nunotaba without prompt.

Setting the table took less than a minute when you had mind powers. Nunotaba was still not done with dinner so you found something else to occupy your time. You were the guest here and you always thought it was a bit rude to just trash someone’s place. That and you were also the de facto leader and leaders were responsible people. Someone had to do the boring stuff after all. First things first, you lifted Kyousuke out of the pile of yaoi manga, which was slightly surprising given that he weighed almost as much as you did. Filing away the fact that your powers may have gotten stronger away for later you deposited him in a chair. The next issuewas to turn off that awful racket which you accomplished by pulling the plug. That got the other two stooges’ attention.

“Alright kids, clean it up,” you commanded.

“Yes mom,” Tadakuni drawled but got to work anyway.

There wasn’t a need for you to lift a finger either so you just sat down and watched Tadakuni and Sagara clean up the mess they made.

“ほう, he’s good with children isn’t he?” Nunotaba remarked.

She had come out of the kitchen with a ceramic pot full of some kind of orange-red soup with Asuka.

“I laid eyes on him first,” Asuka said smugly, “If you want him you’ll have to fight me.”

“うむう, name a time and a location.”

Nunotaba was probably joking but you didn’t want to take that chance.

“No killing our patrons dear,” you told Asuka.

“Yet,” she finished.

“Yet,” you belatedly added.

A swift slap to the face later and Kyousuke regained consciousness and you all settled in for dinner. Perhaps the tom yum goong was Nunotaba’s idea of revenge for trashing the place.

“そして, I suppose you are all curious as you why I called you here,” Nunotaba started after dinner.

It went without saying really but the free dinner was nice so you all waited for her to continue. Nunotaba fished out a data stick from one of her pockets.

“それ, this data stick contains a virus that I have personally developed. だが, I need access to a certain facility to employ it,” she gestured to you all, “That is where you come in. You will clear a path for me.”

“Right, just name the place and we’ll hit it,” you said.

“あぶない, among many other problems is that there are too many facilities involved,” she supplied, “The virus will not work when all the targets are all spread out. That problem will solve itself however, だから, what is important right now is to assign roles so that we are prepared to act when the opportunity arises.”

“Roles?” you asked.

“はい, I was there when you egged the Railgun on,” she answered, “I know she will destroy the facilities involved with Level 6 Shift. As of right now fifteen such facilities have already been shut down.”

Her phone beeped and Nunotaba took a moment to look it over.

“すいません, make that sixteen,” she continued.

“She works fast,” you commented, “So you want us to hit the last facility?”

“はい, knowing Nokleben and how he works, they will hire security for the last two and that is your ticket in. あなたたち, I happen to know exactly the kind of people will be hired. You will infiltrate the group, and be the inside men that will help me get to where I need to.”

It seemed awfully convoluted as far as plans go.

Unrelated to the post at hand, but what if we made Kyril's TK hand way bigger or able to change size instead of developing multiples for the next thing to go for? That would let it act as a shield easier and also move multiple things at once albeit sloppily by just getting it all in a pile.

You recalled Toulour’s words then. They were quote, “keep things simple,” and this seemed simple enough. Besides you had Sagara play the inside man before so it wasn’t like it was a bad plan even if you said,

“That is the stupidest plan I’ve ever heard, let’s do it.”

Nunotaba smiled, self-satisfied, as Asuka sighed and put her palm to her face.

“Dear, do you not see the problem with her suggestion?” Asuka asked.

“Don’t worry we’ve done it before,” Sagara spoke, “It worked pretty well.”

“Hell it’s basically the same as the Kaiou U. job except we’re putting in a virus and not stealing data,” Tadakuni chimed in.

“I dunno man, I remember Kyril went crazy for a bit,” Kyousuke remained sceptical.

“He was always crazy,” Sagara argued.

“Very well, I suppose sanity loss is acceptable then,” Asuka conceded sarcastically.

“よい, I will take Kudou with me as a ‘bodyguard’ whilst the rest of you will pose as hired thugs,” Nunotaba continued, “I will get you in contact with the appropriate persons.”

“Wait a minute,” Kyousuke interrupted, “Can I do something else?”

It was true, Kyousuke wasn’t exactly thug material. He may be friends with thugs that could give Makunouchi Ippo a run for his money but Kyousuke couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag nine times out of ten.

“Then how about some recon?” Sagara suggested, “It’d be nice to know where or what we’re going to deal with in whatever facility we’re going to hit.”

“At last a sensible suggestion,” Asuka spoke, “I would rather we all just walk through the front door however. We would not have to worry about silly and troublesome things such as alibis and cover stories.”

You agreed that Kyousuke was better on recon. He wasn’t a fighter and that was that. It also would relieve some pressure from Nunotaba to get that information and to make sure it was legit.

“それじゃ, Kyousuke will keep track of which facilities are being destroyed and keep a look out from the outside.”

Nunotaba handed you a piece of paper with an address on it.

“それ, go here after 1800 tomorrow. You will meet your recruiter there. Once you’re in, you will have to wait for things to develop.”

“How much help do we actually have to actually give you, I don’t think we’d survive blowing out cover?” Sagara asked this time.

“As much as you can,” Asuka answered instead, “While it is obviously better for you to not have to act at all, even a small lapse in security is better than none. Though I honestly could not care too much if you were to get yourself killed I would prefer it if you did not.”

That last bit was aimed at you. You weren’t going to have an electromaster on hand to revive you so you wouldn’t be able to enjoy Asuka in a maid costume in the future if you died, unlike earlier this afternoon.

“So who exactly are we going to work with?” Tadakuni piped up.

“やくざ, well, they are professional thugs that hire out to mercenary elements,” Nunotaba fielded this one, “You will be working at a step above street thugs and your superiors will probably be some of the bigger fish in the sea. Are there any other questions at this time? Otherwise I shall call it a night.”

“You don’t mind if I some of the security were to suddenly disappear would you?” you asked.

You knew that THIEF were against the killing of innocent civilians but you didn’t exactly stick around to ask what specifically constituted an innocent civilian. Security seemed like fair game but it was better to check in with Toulour on that later. It was moot point anyway if Nunotaba was squeamish though.

“いいえ, I certainly do not mind but security may be suspicious. If you must leave a body I would suggest no more than two.”

“And what’s our exit strategy?”

“さあぁぁぁ, I would expect you to leave the way you came in but that may not be possible,” Nunotaba mused, “だから, you will have to come up with your own alternatives. I am sure Kudou and I can make our own forceful breakthrough.”

So your best bet was to not arouse suspicion so that you could leave as easily as you came in huh? Well it was better than nothing and without actually knowing what facility you were hitting you couldn’t exactly draft an alternative escape plan. You’d have to rely on Kyousuke for that.

“Alright thanks for the food then, I’ll see you later then,” you got up.

With partings exchanged you escorted Asuka back to her dorm. She had some misgivings about Nunotaba’s plan of course but did not force the issue. Her concerns were well-founded after all but it doesn’t seem like the alternative would be any better. There were pros and cons to each approach and some things just couldn’t be planned for, or at least not yet. That was why you just silent held her hand and enjoyed the night as much as possible before kissing her goodnight.

There was one thing on your mind tonight. You’ve been neglecting your body lately. True you were stuck in a wheelchair but now that it was over you had to get rid of this flab. It was going to take work and you weren’t going to get anywhere if you didn’t start now. An hour or two of sweating later you went to bed, exhausted but eager to see the fruits of your exercise.

The time is now morning, the weather is pleasant and the date is now August 18.

Apart from the appointment at 1800 today, your day was pretty much open and there were several things you could get out of the way. You had been putting off on investing and with the job and possibly more money coming in, now looked like a good time to look in to it. Work also remained a thing that needed to be done. Speaking of which you had yet to figure out who was after your boss though you didn’t really have a place to start and you’re not sure you want to owe THIEF more just yet. Toulour also could probably answer the small question you had about innocent civilians as well and that probably shouldn’t cost more than a few yen at the payphone. The last item on your checklist was reading but since you just finished a book you’d rather not. But if personal improvement wasn’t a thing you’d probably bug Kaoru or Sparky, see what they’re up to but that wasn’t a given.

How would you like to spend your day?

You might as well deal with the issue regarding your boss. That meant speaking to Toulour. Might as well kill two birds with one stone you thought.

“Hey how’s it going?” Toulour answered.

“Good, I have a few questions, that alright with you?”

“Sure, try and make it quick if you can though, it’s costing you more than me.”

“Yeah well remember the job I’m doing?” he did, “I was wondering what constituted ‘innocent civilians’, I’m not exactly doing pacifist run here.”

“Oh, that’s easy. Anything that’s part of security forces and obviously self-defence is a thing,” he replied, “In your case I guess the researchers that aren’t currently trying to kill you are pretty innocent, whatever security you meet is fair game though. It’s the price of being in the biz after all. I’ll admit the rule is a bit fuzzy so you could exploit that if you make a good case for yourself. If we find out you lied then you’ll know what’s coming though. We’re thieves, not killers.”

“Thanks for clearing that up.”

“No prob, what’s the other question.”

“I’m looking in to my boss. Apparently people want him dead and I’m not too sure where to start,” you explained, “You know him right?”

“Give me a sec,” more papers were ruffled, “Yeah, and man you have one popular boss you know that?”

“Like how? He popular? Rich? What?”

“Well he’s plenty smart, done a tour as a rocket scientist around the world, plenty of connections and all that. Now he’s overseeing some of AC’s ‘trash-tier’ tech? That’s just asking to be murdered really.”

“He’s told me as much.”

“Then I dunno where to look man, not until you narrow it down,” Toulour finally said, “You might want to look through his client records and stuff. I mean I could do it but that ain't free.”

Just spending money for the past two days showed you that you didn’t actually have much of a reliable source of income outside of your month allowance that the city gave you. Investing wasn’t exactly reliable either but at least you’d get some money out of it later without too much effort. It was like gambling but the odds were significantly better if you played it smart. With the way you just tossed away half a million yen a few days ago, you were going to need some income just in case.

Asuka had advised with investigating and investing in domestic companies first. Her list had three companies already for you but their summaries left much to be desired. Sitting at a café you started surfing the net to find out more about Kongou Aviation, STUDY and the Kihara Group.

Like Asuka had mentioned, Kongou Aviation was a really safe bet. That was probably because Asuka was friends with the owner’s daughter, a certain Kongou Mitsuko. Having her ear could net you some valuable insider information, an advantage that the other companies didn’t offer. STUDY Corporation was a real gamble however. At some point there was going to be a crash and it was a matter of time. When it crashed it was going to crash hard. As long as you pulled out in time you would be making more than just a pretty penny though. Last but not least was the Kihara Group. Sure they made money most of the time but they also known to use Child Errors, orphans, like you in their experiments. Who was to say you wouldn’t be next? Would the money even be enough to save you at that point?

Episode 40 End. Sorry chaps I’ve spent most the day travelling and I’m super tired. I’ll come back tomorrow to tally the votes so consider this one having no time limit until the thread 404s. I’ll run again on the weekends.
