You are John Galt. You just finished writing down a bunch of random runes that you kinda sorta half know in the back of your mind, plus a few you’re pretty sure you just made up on the spot while trying to complete a project for the Witchball team.

After you finished, you laid your head down for just a few seconds and now there’s a motherly looking yet blue haired lady standing beside you with a smile on her face. You have no idea who she is, what she’s doing here or how she got passed everyone else in the house. You also have no idea if she’s actually human or not either, but things like that are more or less common-place at a witch college.

Still staring at her, she seems to be waiting for you to say something.

You sigh and put your head back down on the desk. You try to dredge up something, anything to care about besides what you’re about to ask her. You fail completely.

“So, I’m sure I’ll come up with something else shortly,” you say resignedly, “But I must ask, did you have to have blue hair? I mean really?”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I thought you liked it,” says the voice, changing pitch slightly in the middle, “I don’t have a set form.”

Looking up at where your mysterious visitor was, you now see a pale, white haired woman with red eyes, but still with a gentle, motherly smile on her face.

“Ok….” You say, several small things coming together in your mind, “I guess that means you aren’t human.”

It/she shakes her head no.

“So….” You rack your brains a little more, “I guess that makes you my house then, doesn’t it?”

She nods happily. “Yes,” she says clapping her hands together with a grin, “It’s so nice to have a master who isn’t scared of me the first time, it’s been so long since that happened.”

You stare at her some more, rather…bemused, at her attitude. “How old are you exactly then?” you hear yourself ask before you really think about it.

It’s here that…well, apparently your house, pouts at you. It’s not quite as effective as on somebody with a younger face, but it’s still endearing.

“You shouldn’t ask a lady such a thing,” she says, sounding more embarrassed than anything, “It’s not polite, especially to an older lady.”

“Sorry,” you say, actually meaning it, “That just kind of slipped out.”

She seems mollified by your apology and goes back to smiling. “Just as long as it doesn’t happen again,” she says in a slightly teasing tone.

“So, uhm,” you say, “Do you have a name? I’m not sure I can just call you House…seeing as how you seem to be alive and all.”

“Oh I’ve had lots of names,” she says, swinging around in a circle, then turning to face you again, “But I don’t remember all of them. I believe…I believe this one was called Irisviel by the last people to live here,” she says, continuing her swinging before suddenly reaching out and giving you a hug, pulling you into her bosom, “Ooh it’s just so great to have people to take care of again!” she says happily.

Then Nanoha opens the door. She stops, face a little shocked as you eye her over your houses cleavage. Goddamn your life is strange.

Eh, the male getting henpecked by the harem is an overused troop of the genre. And we're all about subverting tropes wherever possible.
>>
>>32384836
I wouldnt call it "subdued" anon., and it give us Protag points so we cant complain.
also glad you are running Guide love your quest gonna follow it from now on.
>>
Slender-chan when? Big talk when?

I appreciate you running this quest, Guide. Just wish you could run it more often so we could progress more. Still, I'd rather have more threads less often then try to blitz through this quest.
>>
>>32384875
When was the last time John got sleep alone peacefully? Can't have encounters when the bed is full.
>>
>>32384875
I wish guide would fast forward more. Like 5 or 6 threads ago, when we voted to do the dinner with the girls, I think we should've skipped to it immediately after the negotiations with the witchball team. Then the next day we would've gone out and explored, then maybe do our enchantment thing the next day.

John's days are too full for my liking.
>>
>>32384851
Its supposed to be some kind of karmic balance to the one male getting all the girls. Having him be the more assertive partner in the relationship would imply bad things or something.
>>
>>32384981
It's probably a bit endemic to quests; people want to have a choice in everything, so it drags on more than regular stories where the author has more leeway to make executive decisions about pacing.
>>
>>32384981
That's true, to an extent. I think we're getting a little bogged down in the minutia of things for the amount of threads that Guide runs. If he were running three times a week, this would be an acceptable amount of detail, but he's not.
>>
>>32384981
Let's solve this situation then;
>Have House Waifu help us set up and cook dinner, as well as gather all the important girls.

You sigh. You know exactly where this is going and have little hope of stopping it.

“I look like a pervert again, don’t I,” you manage to say, pulling away from your house’s, Irisviel’s, breasts before speaking.

Nanoha just nods at you, still frozen halfway into the room.

“I swear it’s not what it looks like,” you say, before your house runs over to Nanoha and pulls her into the room, pinching her cheeks like a small child.

“Oh you!” she says, acting just like a playful mom or aunt, “You should know by now that John here is a perfect gentleman. And besides,” she points at Nanoha seriously for just a second, “I’ve been meaning to talk to you. You need to watch where you shoot that Starlight Breaker thing of yours, I had to power up my fields just to stop the backblast from messing up my paint.”

At this point Nanoha seems to be mildly stunned, turning towards you for an explanation.

“She’s our house,” you say, “Or I guess more accurately our houses Avatar. I think she just showed up.”

“Oh yes, I’m sorry, I didn’t introduce myself yet, I’m Irisviel,” says your house, shaking Nanoha’s hand.

“Nanoha Takamachi,” your housemate finally manages to get out, “Are you really our house or is he just making things up again?”

“Oh yes, yes I am,” says, flipping through several different forms, including the blue haired one, just to prove her point, “I just managed to get my systems working again though, it’s been so long!” She spins happily on her heel again.
>>
>>32384981
Lets just play this bit through.
>>
>>32385084
>Isara
Why did you have to remind me? I'm still sad ;_;
>>
>>32384981
We already had a fast-forward. I feel like what we have now, while unsatisfying with the amount of updates a week we get, is still better than this quest becoming more vague and us losing interest in a MC that does everything for us. Part of the level of choice we get is the quest itself; most often MC's don't have a choice. Going deeper, this quest is a bit of a power fantasy for anyone whose had to suffer thorough a dense mc in a harem series. As much as the wait kills us, it's nice to exert this level of control over a series. Still, I wish Guide could update more often; but life isn't usually that cooperative.
>>
>>32385112
Nanoha eyes your happy house warily for a little bit, but then turns back to you.

“Anyway…” she says, “Two things. The first, Kaname says “Everything is ready,” and that you’d know what that means. Second, I had a request for you.”

You nod. “Sure.”

“If you can, seeing as how you’re Mr. Enchantment, I’d like you to make me a new wand,” she says, holding up the one you usually see her with, “It’s not keeping up with me the way it used too.”

“Alright,” you say, “I don’t know much about wands, but I’ll try.”

“Thanks,” she says, nodding and looking warily at Irisviel, who’s still dreaming off into the sky, before leaving the room.

Looks like you’re mostly free at the moment.

You’re a little tired, but while you’re in here you decide to take a look at wand making, something which Irisviel is oh so happy to help you with, several books flying off some shelves and landing in front of you.

“It’s been so long since I’ve had someone tinker around inside me like you do! It’s so much fun!”

You never thought you’d see the day when you’d have to wonder if your house was making a pass at you.

After an hour or two looking through basic wand prep, nothing too complicated really, just enough to get you started; you smell dinner and pack up, heading for the kitchen.

Inside you see Kaname cooking once again, with a little help from Chris it seems, while Akeno and Tatsuko are setting the table. You look around for Karasuba, at least until you feel a presence behind you, half a second before she says “Boo,” causing you to jump just a bit.

“Hello to you too,” you say, heart beating several beats faster per minute.

“Hello,” she says cheerfully, moving and taking a seat at the table, rather relaxed at the moment, “I was surprised, when your friends called,” she says, nodding to Kaname, “But I couldn’t turn down the offer of free food.”

“Yeah,” you say, looking at Kaname as she brings what looks to be some kind of roast out of the oven. She nods, letting you know that everything is still ready. Everyone takes their seats, with you at one end and the girls around the sides.

The “null” field hasn’t been activated yet and it looks like Kaname and Akeno are waiting for your signal. There are a couple of ways you could do this. First, you could activate it right here and now, which will leave the whole dinner open, which might be a bit sudden but will give you the most time. Second, you could have them activate it in the middle of dinner, possibly alerting you if someone changers personality mid conversation. Lastly, you could activate it at the end of dinner, when everyone will be full and relaxed, letting their guard down.

I can see the point of being circumspect about this, but at the same time I'd like to be forthright. Part of the reason I voted for this was to let Tatsuko know she wasn't alone, and I think doing that before dinner is worth it.

>>
>>32385971
that, plus we should eat dinner with the girls whenever we can
>>
>>32386007
No, only Akeno and Kaname are confirmed.
>>
>>32385814
You nod at Kaname and Akeno, you want to get this over with and done, both so that you can start to figure out where to go from here and because perhaps treating it like a Band-Aid is the right idea. At least this way you won’t have to feel awkward because you spent too much time talking to a construct.

At your nod, you see both Kaname and Akeno focus on something briefly, then you can actually feel the room become…unwatched, you guess. Like there’s something lacking, like you have the past few times you were in something like this.

Kaname and Akeno react how you expect, with eyes glancing around at the other girls, watching to see how they react.

The first, not surprisingly, is Karasuba. But what is surprising is the way she reacts.

For one, you can also feel the vague murderous instinct that seems to always come from her disappear, it’s just gone. Secondly, she relaxes considerably and throws her arms back, stretching in a large arc.

“Oh thank god,” she says, back popping, “I thought I was going to have to keep that stick up my ass the entire show.” It’s here that she stops stretching and comes back, looking at you, Kaname and Akeno with eyes open normally, unlike her usual mildly lidded ones.

“So which one of you is it, hmm? Because I owe you a drink or three.”

“All of us,” you manage to say, surprised that she outed herself so fast.

“Really?” she says, looking at the other two, who nod, “Oh, good. I guess that means most of us have a brain then.”
>>
>>32386525
Glancing at Tatsuko, you wonder if she’s also sentient. She’s currently in the middle of cutting a slice of the roast for herself, completely unconcerned about what you’re talking about. It makes you concerned for a little, at least until she looks up at you and gives you a quizzical look.

“What?” she asks, finishing taking a slice and putting it on her plate.

“Do you know what’s going on?” you ask her, still a little concerned by her lack of reaction.

She nods, messy hair still drooping in her face.

“So you know we’re in a show?”

Another nod, still unconcerned.

“And you’re not worried about that at all?”

She shakes her head no, taking a bite before speaking. “Friends,” she says, nodding at all of you, including Karasuba.

Huh. It looks like some things never change. Especially Tatsuko.

Finally you look towards Chris, who’s been rather silent. You find out why. She appears…blurry. Part of her seems to be moving and going through the motions of whatever dinner the show happens to be having at the moment, while the other part is wavering in and out of solidity, with her never staying long enough for her mouth to form words.

“What the hell?” you say, trying to figure out what’s going on.

“I…I think she’s stuck,” says Akeno, looking closely at her, “Like part of her is aware and part of her isn’t.” She reaches out to touch Chris, but is stopped by Kaname.

“Don’t touch her, something might happen to you,” she says worriedly, glancing at you before turning back to examine Chris again.

You can see Chris struggling, trying to come with you. But something’s holding her back. Even Karasuba and Tatsuko are looking at her now with a little worry.

Kaname looks at you, unsure as to what to do.

Yeah, was kinda afraid Chris wasn't all there. She's had the least presence of all the girls in the harem.

Was kind of expecting more of a reaction from Tatsuko, though.

Still, poking dangerous things is what we do, so why stop now?
>>
>>32386564
Oh, shit. This is serious. Though, how can she be only partially aware? Is it because she's been around us so much she's picked up on things? This should be a focus of research for later.

I sort of want to do this now. My reasoning is that if we use protag points, that means we're relying on the show, which we are currently fazed out of, to fix it for us. What's to say that doesn't make the fact we're sentient a plot point of the story?
>>

Now that this is relevant, now would be a good time to ask.

In an earlier thread, one guy mentioned that under Waifu Quest mechanics, we would be required to burn points to defend against Genre shifts or horrifying plot twists. While he was shouted down because he wanted the quest to be a standard harem anime with no action, I'm interested in whether or not this would be a thing.

I doubt that most of the players in the quest would be happy if the quest suddenly turned into School Days or Abnormal-Kei Joshi with no way to stop it.

Well, honestly you’re not sure you want to try and use your powers here, seeing as how they’re for in the show and you’re currently very specifically NOT in the show, so you do what you normally do. The crazy thing.

Standing, you move towards Chris, who’s still frozen in her chair. Kaname looks at you as you approach.

“What are you doing?” she asks as you get close to Chris.

“I’m going to hug her,” you say simply, trying to figure out the best way to do this.

“You’re what?!” she says, clearly shocked by the very suggestion.

“I’m going to put my arms around her and see what happens,” you say in the tone of voice reserved for specifically annoying people by pretending they’re dumb enough to not know what you just said.

“I KNOW THAT!” she says, “What I don’t get is why you think…” she stops, as Tatsuko puts her hand on her shoulder and shakes her head.

“Let him,” she says, nodding at you.
Akeno and Karasuba look between the three of you, but both of them nod in agreement.

“Fine,” Kanme says, a little worried sounding, “Just don’t get hurt.”

You nod, before turning to Chris and then suddenly reaching forward and hugging her.

You hear a roar, see nothing but darkness. You’re falling, falling fast. But you’re also standing still, you see many colors, some you couldn’t describe with words if you tried. It goes on for an eternity, but stops within a split second.

Suddenly your world clears up. You have solid stone beneath your feet; your sword is by your side. Behind you is a door, solid wood, it looks heavy. In front of you, you see Chris, kneeling and held to the ground by a set of heavy chains around her wrists and ankles. She looks like she’s stressed and maybe in a bit of pain, but she hasn’t been visibly abused at least. The rest of the room is shadows, no visible walls or ceiling, despite

She sees you, relief appearing briefly on her face, then concern. Her mouth makes movement, but you can’t hear anything. She struggles briefly, but can’t move and an apparent attempt at yelling doesn’t seem to do very much either.

You step forward, eager to help Chris.

But as you do, you see something from the shadows dart out at you. You barely manage to dodge in time and don’t even see it; it’s gone before you can get a look at it.

“Haha, hahahahahahaha!” laughs a voice in complete evil maniac mode, “You did it, you actually did it. I thought you might’ve been smarter than that, but nooo! You fell for the oldest trick in the book, the damsel in distress.”

You have your sword out, on guard and looking around as the voice echoes around the strange room, you can’t get a good read on it.

“I hate you,” says the voice, venom dripping from every word, “I hate you more than you can possibly know.” Another flash, this time you manage to parry with your sword, causing something to bury itself in the ground beside you before quickly vanishing in the light.

The voice laughs again. “So you do have some real fight in you. Yes, yes, make my victory even sweeter!”

This time several of the objects flash out. You manage to dodge a few and parry one, but another gives you a good slice across your side.

>-1 wound.

There’s another deep cackle. “Yes, yes, bleed, bleed. I want to see the light leave your eyes!”

Even as you see Chris struggle and strain against her bonds, you block another shot at your head. It’s here that you realize suddenly that you may not be within the schools anti-death field anymore.

“What’ll it be hero,” taunts the voice, “Save the girl or your life?” Several more of the attacks come, herding you towards the door.

Fuck whomever or whatever it is that’s trying to get you away from Chris. You’re here for her and it’s not going to stop you. You see her look at you and she pauses, unsure as to what you’re going to do. You grin.

Then you charge.

A barrage of the strange projectiles comes at you, but you manage to dodge most and block a few more, but a couple get through to you, mostly scratches but scratches add up.

>-1 wound.

A skid along the ground as you near Chris lets you grab one of the chains as you go, jerking you to a stop as the barrage pauses.

“You’re so sentimental about a lie,” the voice says, “It’s all one big lie.”

Ignoring the voice, you notice that the chains are enchanted, preventing Chris from doing much of anything at all. But you have something that may help. Or at least you would if you’d brought it. Fuck, you need it now!

“She’s not real you know that right?” says the voice, still going on, “Neither are you. She doesn’t like you either, even if she did, it’ll all be over soon enough!” Another cackle, a few more dodged shots and suddenly you see your shield breaker appear on the ground in front of you. A quick roll and you grab it, quickly holding it onto your sword, seeing as how it only needs physical contact to work, and then with a swing, breaking one of the four chains holding Chris down.
That seems to be enough for her to talk at least, seeing as how the next thing she says is, “Get out of here you idiot! You don’t need me, just my character!”

It seems like Chris wants you to leave her here, trapped with…whatever it is.

>You have 2 wounds remaining.

You ignore Chris. Even if you’re being a little selfish making sure she comes back with you, it’s worth it.

“I don’t think you get why I’m doing this,” you say, with a great big swing that severs one of the three remaining chains.

“I don’t need a character,” another swing and another broken chain.

“I’m doing this because I want…” you say as you try to swing again, but this time a barrage of attacks comes at you. Luckily you’re wearing your protective bracelet, so none of them hurt you, but it forces you out of position and then begins chasing you away from Chris.

This makes you mad, furious, and desperate to get back to Chris. So you do one of the few things you can think of doing at the moment, you summon your familiar, ready to use his bony noggin as fodder for just a few seconds of helping Chris.

However, that’s not what happens.

>-10 Mana
Instead what happens is a fully grown man appears, wearing a dapper butler suit, surprising you for just a second.

“It looks like you’re getting better,” says his still annoying voice, even as he plucks a strike out of the air, “But there’s no time now, go get your girl.” With that he disappears into the shadows and you hear the voice screech out in anger as it engages your familiar.

You run back towards the center, blocking the few shots that your antagonist seems to be able send your way.
>>
>>32388903
Oh.
Great.
Another thing to add to my rapidly expanding list.
>>
>>32388943
As you approach Chris, you see her pull the last chain tight, with her arm even as she manages to barely stand, ready for you to break the chain, which you do with one final heavy swing.

As the fragments of the chain shatter, Chris stumbles, even as the voice screams out bloody murder and you here Jenkins make a few grunts of pain. Looking around you see the walls of the place are now writhing, like they’re alive and coming at you. Sheathing your sword, you grab Chris, slinging her in your arms Princess style as you run towards the door, the one thing in the room that seems to be real.

As a stream of vile profanities and attacks chase you, you run as fast as you can, headed straight for a door that seems to be getting farther away with every step. Chris holds on to you tightly, eyes looking behind you as she screams “Run!” at the top of her lungs.

Suddenly the door is right in front of you. You don’t stop barreling through it at full speed, turning just in time to slam into it with your back, protecting Chris. The last thing you see as you crash through the door is a mass of writhing tentacles reaching for you.

It’s with a crash that you land on your table at home, plates and food clattering ad splattering as you slide across it and then off, rolling to the floor with a thud.

Looking up as you manage to focus again, you see a worried Christiane Friedrich above you.

“You idiot!” she says as soon as she can tell you’re focused, grabbing onto your collar “Why did you do that! You could’ve gotten killed!”

“Because I don’t want a fake, I want you Chris,” you reply, “I want the real you.”

Her face turns red, at this, like she did the first time you met her.

“Stupid,” she says, with almost no heat in her voice, her face approaching yours, “Stupid, stupid, stupid.”

There, in a jumble of broken dishes, spilled food and drinks, Chris kisses you with the heat of a sun.

He's your familiar.

He can't really "die".

because he learned that notning suits him like a suit
>>

Yeah, I got that vibe from the pic
>>32389075
Video did not help that impression
>>
>>32389074
But what about dinner? We've been meaning to have "The Talk" for a while, and inter-dimensional plot deamons stealing our waifus isn't going to stop four threads worth of build up about discussing ooc things with everybody.
>>
So, Guide, Have you been planning on that for Jenkins all along?
>>
>>32389075
Yeah, that video makes me want to summon jenkins less, if possible.

I was totally expecting full power Jenkins to look like pic related, but this is fine too.
>>
>>32389125
Well, given that it's true...

Though, it's not straight up yaoi. just a few scenes with misdirection.
>>
Okay, so Jenkins is now a butler demon thing that may be capable of stealing our harem, assuming he's not gay.

And you guys thought he was just an asshole flaming skull.
>>
>>32389129
You can still have dinner. You're just going to have other stuff to talk about too!

>>32389134
For awhile at least.

>>32389125
>>32389153
>>32389155
Rest assured anons, Jenkins will forever be your annoying friend.

And probably act more like Bob the Skull from the Dresden files than a Yaoi vampire.
>>
So was the person that just tried to kill us Slendere? Like, she's forced to be nice nice to us when we're visible to the show, but once we enter a zone of interference she can let out just how much she wants us dead?
>>
>>32389182
Holy shit, he's gonna continuously make sexual innuendo and demand porn for his service? KILL HIM NOW! KILL HIM WITH FIRE!
>>
>>32389177

> capable of stealing our harem

You do realize that we can dismiss him at any time if he gets any NTR ideas, and we could always purposely summon him into skull form (which he loathes).

It's not like Negi, who's mostly autonomous unless we can convince the Headmistress to dismiss him.
>>
>>32389209
Well, innuendo yes. But he can't really demand payment for service. Just be more annoying.
>>
>>32389182
I don't know, yaoi vampire butler could be more fun than the skull in some ways.
>>
>>32389233
Thanks for running, Guide. Any idea when you'll be able to do it next?

Not right now. Today was kinda a fluke too.

>>32389277
Sorry dude, I work with what I've got. Personally haven't gone through the story he's in, according to google.

No, because I'm pretty sure Mahoro is already running around somewhere, waiting to help our house keep itself clean.

Right Guide?
>>
>>32389277
Ronove is too refined for some of Jenkins' mannerisms. Sebastian was an awesome twist.
>>
>>32389319
Ehh. It's really long and kind of weird, definitely not for everyone.

And the anime has retroactively been declared to not exist, so you'd have to experience it in VN format.
>>
>>32389320
I would REALLY like that.
Since he is (I assume) an extension of a greater being, it'd make sense that he could shift his form.
Or, rather, that we could.
