Welcome back to Golem Quest! Previously you had learned how to apply basic enchantments on items, and had even created and animated a golem companion for yourself. You were just getting ready to test your companion out when Tomas alerted you to a nearby village being attacked!

"Lead me, Tomas. I shall do all I can."

Tomas nods quickly and leads you forward. Unfortunately, your focus slows you to a relative crawl. "Tomas, how far must we travel?"

"At our current speed it will take at least an hour. I hope they can hold out until then."

The hour passes, and your trio makes it to the village after an achingly long period of time. As you arrive, the village is in flames and you see a dozen villagers tied in a makeshift chain-gang. You see a half dozen bandits, armed with blades for the most part, as well as fitted in leather armor.

Tomas frowns, "I have never really used my magic for combat... but I guess I am most proficient with elemental magic. My two strongest elements are earth and fire. So I can support you at range and alter the terrain slightly. Nothing too big though."

The bandits out front don't seem to be moving. Note that these are the only ones you can see as they are on the outside of town. There are most likely more within the town.

Your large pair rumbles forward, surprising the bandits as you rush forward, even with your slow speed catching them offguard. Each of you slams a bandit into the ground with a large stony fist. As each of you draw back up to your full height, you know that each bandit is not moving.

Various rounds of expletives rebound from the reduced bandits, and even the villagers look terrified. One bandit begins to back away toward the village. He's going to alert the others! The other three draw their blades. Not a very smart bunch it seems.

Tankred: 89

You use your wingman to catch the scrambling bandit rather easily while you slug another bandit. The runner is barely caught, but he's caught tight by the leg and dragged back. The other two try their best to cut into your stony hide, but fail miserably as one is caught in the face by a firey projectile and drops.

The final bandit drops his blade and falls to the ground, begging for mercy.

You use Lefty to hold the bandit in place as you free each of the villagers. They thank you quietly as you do so, their shock having faded, though they don't stand near you as you recycle their bindings to use on the bandit.

"Where are the others?" You ask.

"Tryin' to get into th' church! Th' priests are hol'd up in there protectin' the other villagers! Please, let me live." The man snivels.

Tomas trots up from where he was hiding. "Woah! Good job!"

"Tomas, where is the church?"

He quickly gives you directions, before he begins to tend to the villagers, who are now staring at you and muttering to each other.

"I'll catch up, go and clean up the rest of this scum."

You begin to move as quickly as you can through the village. On your way to the church you find a few looters, who are dealt with quite easily as they are each found alone. After you get to the church, you have eliminated 10 bandits, including the first six.

"C'mon Mr. Mayorman, let us in! If you do, we'll make sure you and your village is put to work somewhere comfy!" What you assume to be the bandit leader is currently pounding on the church door, with seven other men sneering and chattering behind him, playing with their blades.

The bandit leader has a wicked mace laid on his shoulder, and he stands a full foot over the other bandits. He has short tusks protruding from his lower jaw and his skin has a grey hue to it. A word springs to mind, unbidden, Orc. You had read about them briefly when you first awoke.

You clash. And unfortunately for the fleshlings. Stone beats flesh. You go to town, smashing two men to the ground easily.

You send Lefty directly after the leader, who bulls through four men and grabs the bandit leader's face with his hand and smashes it into the ground repeatedly. After three smashes, the leader's body goes limp, and Lefty lets go. The body is mangled, so much so that the remaining five immediately surrender and drop to their knees.

You feel an odd twinge in your head, though it clears swiftly as you focus on the bandits and round them up in a small circle.

>>
>>32342189
Its obvious we don't have the whole story here. We should clear the village of bandits before returning to talk.
>>
>[]Speak:Bandits

"Where are the rest of you?" You ask.

Through much groveling and begging you learn that there are only the four others scavenging and the six on the south side of town.

Following this, you knock lightly on the church door. "There are a five individuals out here in need of restraint." You wait, and after a minute, presumably after they peeked through a keyhole or other sort of observance, the doors open and you see a small crowd within. Quickly, a few men rope up the bandits.

A man approaches you, who seems to be slightly better dressed than the rest of the crowd. "Erm... thank you, sir golem. How can we repay you for this service to our town?" He wipes his sweaty brow, smiling at you tentatively.

The villagers are merry in the fact that the bandits are defeated, but they give you a wide berth nonetheless. They're happy, but still cautious.

What do you do?
>>
>>32342550
[]Speak:To better dressed man
Return to the building and lock it. The village is not yet free of bandits. Make sure they are bound securely and have your most able bodied guard them.

No repayment necessary. Tomas asked for my help and I am happy to assist a friend.

I do hope that you'll look favorably on me returning to the village in the future to trade or learn from the people here.

>>
JUST looked at the QTG, and noticed there was something I needed to put in here again. I have made a twitter, here: https://twitter.com/GolemQuest

Another thing mentioned is that I do not post archives in the OP, I will start doing that.
>>
>>32342690
Do a few sweeps to ensure there are no remaining bandits. If its a worth doing, its a job worth doing right.
>>
>>32342721
Why would we take the bandits back to a kid when the highest authority in the village already has custody of them?
>>
>>32342858
forced labor
We could start up a quarry to get more stone and make more golems.
>>
>>32342888
Ooooor, we could make flesh golems.

Just sayin'
>>
>>32342907
Yea, but we already know how to make stone golems, and I think they would be much more durable in combat.
Once we have enough golems to run the quarry THEN we can make some flesh golems.
>>
"No payment is needed, just open minds." You respond. "Please stay inside and remain cautious, there may yet be bandits about. I will return when the area is safe." You caution the villagers.

They look a little suspicious and talk amongst themselves, but reason wins out. Why would the golem save them, and then deceive them? They follow your request and bring the bound bandits into the church with them, locking the door behind them.

You ready yourself with the mace of the bandit leader, weighing it in your hand easily. It isn't sized for you, but is better than your fist for now. Ready, you set out to patrol the village.

--END--
That's it for the night folks. I should be able to run again tomorrow, same time, same place. However I'd like to thank all of the helpful anons who have helped me over this week getting into the role of QM proper.

I'd like to ask a few questions of you all, if you don't mind. Feel free to ask any back.

1. What do you think I could do to improve Golem Quest? I mean in my prose, my presentation of the options, or even just what I put into the OP. Note I will be posting the archives and Twitter in the OP from now on.

2. What would you like this quest to evolve into? A civ? Adventure? Anything else?
>>
>>32342907
>>32342932
I'm not going to bring morality into this, since we're technically a fantasy robot that feasibly has no emotions anyway.

Instead, let me ask you this:
What niche do flesh golems fill that the other types wouldn't?
>>
>>32342954
Waifubots for our allies
>>
>>32342945
Personally, I'm leaning more towards a Civ or something than an adventure. We were built to build things, so let's build the best things.

I won't say no to some adventure elements though.
>>
>>32342745
Cool. You should also put the twitter in the OP though, just so new guys know about it. Some QMs don't use it so if you don't link it they will assume you just don't have one.
>>
>>32342979
Will do.
>>
>>32342945

1. I'd suggest making a short post when you're done counting votes saying what option won. It lets players know what's going on and just makes everything flow better.

2.I'm interested in expanding our ability to control other golems into just straight up sharing consciousness across multiple bodies. After that, probably civ stuff? We're a crafter golem so we'll be able to supercharge the logistics of any polity we're allied with.
>>
>>32342954
More dexterous, they can do stuff like organize books.

Also, they're fucking horrifying.
>>
>>32342945
I just had this brainstorm of running a hybrid of civ and adventure along the vein of X-Com. Then I realized the toll on OP and I tossed it out the window. You need something powerful to drive that quest.

Adventuring party for another arc or two before settling down into a civilization. If our civilization gets lost our backup plan goes into action and we have a golem adventure for awhile before starting a civilization. Repeat.
>>
>>32342945
I like the idea of a civ.
But from the view of our golem, not from an overhead view. You know what I mean?
>>
>>32343015
Thank you for giving me a better answer than >>32342961 did.

Still don't want to prioritize them, but at least I can see a reason for them.

And I suppose, we wouldn't be a true builder if we didn't make at least one as a test.
>>
>>32343033

>>
>>32343035

Mold, dammit.
>>
>>32343008
I'll try and keep that in mind in the future. I have noticed it get a little chaotic when I started to do more free-form choices in the last two threads. That might help.

>>32343033
That sounds like a fun idea for a quest, but I'm having trouble enough writing stuff for the ad-hoc system I'm making for this.

>>32343034
I do, and if it goes civ it's exactly how I'd do it.
>>
>>32342945
I like it so far, and am curious as to our origin. I can't help but be reminded of 9 and wonder if we were a mix-up in the crafting process or some kind of attempt at immortality. In any case, I figured we would be making more golems and building the wizard tower up into a decent sized fort, and maybe even annexing the town under our protection and leadership. Maybe spreading out even further after that, who knows?
