Welcome back to Golem Quest! In the previous edition, you had awoken, a freshly created golem, to find yourself with sentience and a dead creator. For the first period of your existence, you probed your environment for any clues related to the crispy corpse you awoke to. During this period you found out some of the functions of the tower you are currently within, as well as have come to meet the apprentice of the wizard that now lies in ashes in his forge.

Now, at the end of our previous convention, you decided that you were going to carry out the 'Master's' work. How will you go about doing this?

"Little one, what did your master do?" You state as the forge begins to lose heat.

After a brief moment, the boy responds in a small voice. "He was a tinkerer, who came from a rather wealthy family. He didn't do much, and couldn't really cast that many more spells than I, but he was a good man."

You: "What did he teach you?"

Boy: "He taught me the basics of magic, writing down the spells and memorizing the verbal and somantic components." He gestures to you. "He never taught me how to make anything like you, in fact I never really thought he'd succeed. I guess he did... after a fashion."

Let's break this tie
>>
>Learn: Magic <enchantment>

Leaving the apprentice to his own devices for the moment, you take your leave and venture up to the study, searching for books related to the enchancement of items. You find them rather quickly, and the learning is easy enough, as it is a magic related to the physical items that you craft. The somantic components are difficult to get handle of at first, but the friendly apprentice is happy to give you a hand on the basics.

Learned: Magic<Enchantment>
You may attempt basic enchantments on items. Common enchantments ward off erosion or give a minor property to the item.

After you put down the most recent tome, the apprentice says. "So... my name is Tomas, what is your's?" He twiddles his thumbs absently as he waits for an answer.

You look at him for a moment. "Tankred is acceptable."

>[]Craft:Golem(Stone)

You make your way to the second floor, where the storage room and forge are located, and work on the shape of a golem similar to your own. The reading you have done aids you in this venture and you successfully craft the body with. You decide not to change the size of the body, as you are not adept enough to attempt such an alteration. After assembling each of the pieces, you make the final assembly in the Lab where you where created.

>Stone Golem Body added to Lab!
>-270 Stone (280 remaining)

Sorry for those who wanted a minigolem/flesh golem. You are not adept enough to alter the size of the golem just yet, and there aren't any corpses in the tower, much less enough to create a golem from.

You still are unaware of the rites to animate the form you have created.

>[]Learn: Golem Animation Rites

You ask Tomas where you might get started on learning how to animate your newly created golem. He quickly cherry picks a few tomes from around the Lab and offers them to you.

"To animate it, you will only need to know the basics." He indicates a tome. "Anything further and you have some heavy reading on your hands."

You may attempt the animation roll at this point, or spend some time learning the rites.

Well, that's why I suggested looking for the Wizard's journal or something. Might give us a simple goal to work towards that will help us get used to everything.
>>
>>32274943
We're working towards making another golem now.
>>
>>32274966
But for what exactly? We don't even know if it will be able to help the kid learn magic. For now, its more likely to get in the way than anything else.

Remember, our sentience is a weird, freak accident.
>>

I guess this is the risk free option, doing things one step at a time.

Not really any downside here.
>>
>>32275018
Practice, mostly.
>>
>>32275018
Maybe we can figure out how to make it repeatable. Maybe the extra muscle will help in the future. Maybe a simple nonsentient golem will still help the kid learn more stuff.

There isn't a whole lot of direction here, so just picking a goal on our own and working towards it doesn't have any inherent downsides.
>>
>>32275062
>>32275068
Fair enough. I just don't like using limited resources without a solid goal, and the early votes didn't seem to account for the fact that it'd be the same size and material as us.
>>
You spend a few hours going over the basics. It's essentially just a more prolonged version of enchantment, as you must connect each portion of the golem to each other, with the torso acting as a form of nexus. The hardest part is the final portion, where you must link the golem to the latent arcane energy in the area. Hmm... that's interesting. You have a power source?

In any case, Tomas tells you he's running down to town to get a few more items to supply the tower with. He's going to keep his master's lateness to himself for now, but tells you he'll be back within a day's time.

Yeah, now I'm actually worried about animating this guy. The lack of a power source might be why our Creator died making us. Might want to learn some more about the tower before we animate this one.
>>
>>32275200

>Learn: Advanced Rites: DC 60
You decide to continue your studies after Tomas leaves. After all, you don't want your limited resources going to waste, and you don't want to end up like your creator. Your continued studies pay off as well! As you read, you notice a few differences between the suggested animation rites and the rites that may have been used to animate you. This includes the use of a number of reagents that makes the bonding process much more clean and reduces the chance of any unintended events to nearly zero.

You note down the suggested reagents and search the lab for them. Sure enough, you find what you're looking for in the various nooks and crannies around the lab, and gather them up.

>[]Other: Investigate this little bit of info
So does that mean we are bound to the tower? Or was our creator's soul bound to us?
Under normal circumstances, are golems bound to the area they are made or do they just feed of of the area's arcane radiation?
>>
>>32275296
>lack of a power source
It just said the power source is everywhere in the area.
>>
>>32275373
By "the area", it sounds like "whatever area the golem is in at the moment."

There are probably few places in the world without ambient mana.
>>
>>32275373
Answering this here, since you would have read it. Arcane energy is generally quite abundant in any given region, thus golems can operate freely in those regions. If access to that energy is cut off however, say by an Anti-Magic Field, then the golem would go inert soon after entering, since its power source was cut off.
>>
>>32275373
I'd guess latent magical energy wherever the golem happens to be.

You put your recently acquired knowledge to the test! The next three hours are long and filled with incantations as you link each portion of the golem's body to the torso, with the head being last. As you finish the incantations and your reagents are consumed in the final bonding, you feel a snap!

Wait. You feel a snap? Yes. In your psyche you feel an almost painful snap as you not only connect the golem to its power source, but you connect it to yourself as well!

The eyes of the golem open, and you can almost sense the extra form as an extension of yourself. It is not sentient, but as you think you find that you can control it through a rather rudimentary process of commands.

>Gained: Stone Golem
>Gained: Basic Telepathic Command (Stone Golem)

Good job! It took most of the previous day and some hours today, but you have gained the ability to animate and control basic golems.

What do you do now?

(Would you guys like me to keep listing the basic commands in every post? I'll do the situational commands as I have been doing, but things like Research, Investigate, and Navigate I have let fall to the wayside.)

>Experiment:Golem:<>

Let's have our new extension (Which I admit is more than I thought we'd get out of this, so my apologies to those of you who pushed for it.) walk around the tower some. Figure out if we can see what it sees, interact through it, figure out if it has a range, etc.
>>
Rolled 31

>>32275714
>Experiment:Golem
Test its full range of movement, speed and strength.
>>
>Experiment: Golem:<Movement>

You test your ability to control the golem. You order it to make its way through the tower, the various rooms, and down to the bottom landing as you follow it. For one moment you allow it to get ahead of you and try to sense it only through the telepathic bond. You find that you have a vague sense of its surroundings, as well as a vague assessment of its integrity. You order it to return to you and it does so admirably, mechanically walking up the stairs.

Any test of speed would require you to leave the tower, as the cramped spaces do not lend themselves to the test well. However, during your tour of the tower you did test its strength in the storage room. It's strength seems to be roughly equal to your own after you test your own load-bearing potential against it.

Note: The maximum load found was roughly 150 units of stone.

What do you do now?
>>
>>32275960
Lets take the golem outside and test speed as well as range on our telepathic bond.
>>
>>32275960
Ask the apprentice about Golem sentience, or generally increasing Golem intelligence.

Gaining lab assistants could be very useful.
>>
>>32275960
For now, let's go with this:>>32276002
>>
You decide that a field test would be more appropriate for this model, and leave the tower to do so. You make your way down the steps fairly easily, and it only takes a short period before you're at the bottom. As you descend you observe the environment you have been created in. It seems that you are in the foothills of a mountain range, and the steps you currently tread are carved into the side of one of the first mountains in said range. That's neither here nor there as the steps open to a copse of trees. Before you can begin any tests, you see Tomas sprinting at you.

"T-Tankred... the village is under attack. We need to help them!"
