You still remember your first day. Five years ago, not short enough to call recent, not long enough to call distant. I was too hot and the streets were too crowded with all the bodies a sunny day brings out. The trader were too load hawking their wares to all the sun seekers. The City always had a comforting unpleasantness to it, never a beggar; or a sewer or a conman too far away. You’d been to the wilds in your youth and the Selesnyan gardens at the behest of their preachers, the quiet and the boredom set you more on edge than yammering washerwomen and lurking street thugs ever could. Those things didn’t matter to you that day though because you had a goal and a dream that dream was to…

>Family: Only child, parents died of old age
>Early life: Pie-Eye spend half his youth trying to become a professional gambler and the other half trying to escape the people he owned money (lost in gambling). Both left him with keen eyes for details, the ability to read people pretty well (just as necessary for seeing through a poker face than for knowing when was time to run) and quick feet.

...make it on your own, no guild strings attached. Your parents had always gotten by without them and you would to. You were on your way to meet up with you first ever client, a Miss Zod. The daughter of a merchant and something of local nobility in the Talis Spires, the bases of said spires you were sulking around look for her address. In your youthful excitement you had let wild thoughts of what she might want to disclose, what she could need you for.

Navigation always being your strong suit you arrived fifteen minutes early, such punctuality was usually a good start with getting people to trust a goblin. The seal she had posted you got you by the family spire door guards, Orzhov hires by the looks. The interior itself was immaculate showing Merchant Zod’s fondness for tapestry. A young girl in an airy summer dress with cascading brow hair was waiting for you with a look of deep satisfaction. The young Miss you presumed.

Taken aback slightly by the realisation of just how young your supposedly powerful and influential employer was you feel back of the social skeleton key, politeness with a light dash of flattery.

"Miss Zod?” You croak curtly, extending a surprisingly smooth and clean green hand “Pleased to meet you"
"Dicktrashy, Pie-Eye. I've heard you had a job for me"
Giving a little giggle before she entered the handshake with a light grip, Miss Zod replaied. “Oh you’re are exactly as I hoped you’d be Mr Trashy, now Vela please I don’t wish us to be too formal. Come out to the balcony, we’ll sit and talk there.”

Taking the rather ostentatious mana-lift (very expensive bit of kit) to the top of the spire you find a rooftop garden, which immediately sets you on edge but you try not let it show. Two metal chairs by a coffee table suggest the young Miss set this up beforehand. Sitting down and taking a glass-full from the jug of herb-water sitting on the table for the two of you is what you take as your que to speak.

"Now, Miss, I can't help but notice you're trying to butter me up. And sure, I'm flattered that a lowly goblin from the alleys is getting this much attention from a spire noble. You try to be subtly blunt. “So, Vela.” You open trying to keep your voce as level as you can, the inherent screech of goblin voices is something you could never stand. “All this fancy treatment for an urchin like me is hardly usual, if I didn’t know better I’d think you were going to ask me to do something illegal.” An arched eyebrow is your first replay from Vela and it quickly transitions in to a mischievous grin; witch itself morphs into full blown laughing fit.
This does little to calm your racing thoughts. Were you too bold? Are you about to be kicked out? Was she going to have you thrown in a Boros Cell overnight for the trouble? Was this some sort of sick game she played? Where there lilies in this garden, those made you choake.
“Well!” Vela, cuts through your thoughts. “You are as sharp as I thought Mr Trashy, you’ve seen right through me I want you to steal something. Well stealing might be a bit of an exaggeration, after all it is really mine.” Vela stops to take a breath, still chuckling. “Nothing dangerous, it’s actually quite petty really. A little spat between I and a friend it’ll be over by next month but I’ve lent her a necklace and I wish to wear it to a ball before then. I will employ you to retrieve it and leave a short note in its place to explain what has happened. I shan’t request you do anything you are uncomfortable with but I do require that you say you will do it before I tell you anymore.”

You pause to consider, this is you first break and if you’re not careful it might be your last. Reputation is everything and without it you won’t get jobs. Vela seem harmless enough if a bit odd and if you do this for her you might get more high profile and legitimate things in the future.

[] What do you think?

I'm slow shit I know.
>>
>>32263878
Not really. Exactly the opposite, actually, very forthcoming and no nonsensy
>>
>>32264235

We're a goblin. We're red.

Only time will tell whether we're R/W (the honest detective with a heart of gold in a corrupt underbelly, trying to do good), R/B (a vicious bastard out-bastarding the other vicious bastards and making a profit off other people's misery) or R/G (it's a jungle out there, and mate, I'm one of the predators, I hunt the weaker and run from the stronger).
>>
>>32264302
What about R/U, the detective that uses whatever deceptions necessary to get his job finished .
>>
>>32264262
Ask to see the note we're to deliver
This is mildly sketchy
>>
>>32264262

"A social call, then. Tell me more about the glitter, the dame that's got them, and the place it's in."
>>
>>32264262
>Refuse
Reputation is a big thing, but getting thrown in jail is a bigger one. This girl isn't on the level with you, and whatever she's hiding is bad business.

Also, we'll probably get a good reputation as detective if what we do is breaking and entering.
>>
>>32264365

Shit, I totally forgot that option. Yeah, Izzet Blitzing our way through the underworld with an arsenal of spells and gadgets, surveillance homunculi and disguises is a good option too.

"Oh certainly, here it is!"

Dearest Emarea,

Before you get angry, you know the rules. When falling out we can withhold items but there’s nothing in there about not fetching them. If you’re reading this my young gentleman has succeeded and thus.

>>32264534
Okay, that bitch just want us to get roast on other bitch's security system. I'm ready to bet it's a game they do often.
>>
>>32264546

The trustworthiness of the dame isn't at issue, this is a detective story so of course she's holding something back. The issue is how easy or hard the job is, and how much the lawmages will break us over it if we get caught. And besides, being a detective means doing a little breaking in from time to time. It's good practice.
>>
>>32264586
Dude, I wrote the book on detective stories tropes. Nearly literally. What I'm saying is that the task is bad for a frist job. Probably too difficult, and rigged for us to fail (with the lawmages getting extra-hard on our ass).

I'm willing to bet it's some kind of game between the two girls: find a moron, have him try to rob the other, you win if he fail , I win if he succeed.
>>
>>32264672

We should ask the lady how often she wins, and what happened to the last chump that she used for this game.
>>
>>32264672
And why do we care. Wether it's a game or not, we're still getting paid.
>>
Weighting up all the risks and rewards and ignoring the little voice in your head that screams “This is a bad idea!” you look back up from the letter. Managing to crack a nervous chuckle of your own you say “Well Vela, I think I will take your job as foolish as I think it may be.”
“Oh don’t worry it is.” She replies. “But I couldn’t let a little spat between friends, ruin my coming of age ball. They take it very seriously you know these spire people, perhaps I should dance with someone outrageous and spice up their lives. Ha ha! But enough about me you want to know about the job. Well the item in question is a jade lotus talisman, don’t give me that look there’s not a speck of mana in it. Now she’ll be keeping it in her jewellery box, in her room of the seventh floor of the neighbouring Dabara Spire. You have until the morning of the day of the ball and not past noon, understand? Now Have I missed anything?”

And I think I’ll be calling it quits for today lads, I am ill while typing this so I should go to bed. Sorry for any typos and the slow posting speed and thank you for bring such gracious questers. I suspect I shall run again tomorrow at a similar time though perhaps a bit earlier, thanks again and watch your backs P.I.s.

Also is it worth an archive and can someone else do it?
>>
>>32264807
Because it's a game with pretty high stakes, and we'd be the one paying. But point taken.

We should demand to be paid in advance. And she have to sign a formal contract in four exemplars (one of wich being taken with us on the job, of course).
>>
>>32264937
It's definitively worth an archive. Thank for the thread, QM
