You stop yourself from getting up from your beanbag chair to check the clock on Rowan’s dresser. It’s going to take you a while to adjust to having the eyesight of a normal person. It looks like you have about twenty minutes before you need to get going, so you settle back in. You still have a few things you’d like to know before you leave anyway. “Before I killed him,” you say, “the Stygian kept whining about how he’d rather be in Stygia. I mean, it makes sense I guess, but if that’s the case why do demons come here at all?”

“All kinds of reasons,” says Rowan, setting her laptop and stretching out on her bed. “From what I know, Hell is a pretty hard place. Our world is a paradise by comparison. Some of them just want to get out.”

“That doesn’t seem so bad,” you say. “They could do landscaping or something.”
>>
>>32259456

“Well most of them don’t do landscaping,” Rowan replies. “It takes some power to get over here, and the kind that can manage that usually want more than a quiet place to settle down. And even if they just want to be left by themselves, demons don’t do a good job of adjusting to our kind of culture where it’s not okay to destroy things. Like, maybe it’s okay in Hell to throw a fireball at somebody who you think is annoying, but here you just wind up giving somebody third degree burns and putting them in the hospital for six months.”

“What else is here for them though? Besides cool shade and babbling brooks and crap.”

Rowan shrugs. “Most people don’t know about magic here. Hell is full of all kinds of weird stuff, so by comparison most demons are powerful when they arrive at the metaphorical airport. Might makes right in Hell, so following that philosophy they think they’re free to do whatever they want when nobody pushes back.”

“So is that Meckor’s deal then? He comes here with his buddies because here there’s no competition?” you ask.

“Sort of,” Rowan says. “We think Meckor was low caste before he came here. Like, in Hell, he was a peasant kind of. It’s kind of feudalistic down there. Anyway, he did something impressive and then somebody gave him San Fransisco as a fief.”
>>
>>32259463

You frown at the information. “But they left it to him to figure out how to control it,” you say. “That’s kind of a jerk move. Like, you can have this car, but it belongs to somebody else so you’ll have to steal it.”

Rowan laughs a little at that. “Hell’s run by a bunch of jerks.”

Talking to Rowan, you get the impression that she’s way knowledgeable about all this stuff, which makes you wonder. You adjust your position on the beanbag chair to get a little more comfortable. “How long have you been doing the demon hunting thing?” you ask, curious.

The girl takes a while to think about it. “It’s hard to say,” she says. “Almost as long as I can remember. Mom helps dad out a lot in his job, and sometimes they’d bring me along. You know, not to go in there and smite evil, but I’d be in the car or something. As I got older dad taught me the things he knew. Showed me how to use my powers. Eventually we started doing things together. Not anything dangerous, but I’d be out there with him. Maybe when I was twelve or thirteen, he was taking me along for everything, whatever it was,” she says, some nostalgia in her tone. You can tell she has some fond memories of fighting evil or whatever. “It worked up from there to now," she finishes. “I’m kind of the heavy hitter when we get serious.”

Rowans is into comics: Put in as a joke, then:

We should probably tell Isaac first. And later. He's less likely to flip out and she just got out of the hospital.
>>
>>32259490
>So there's different kinds of angels, right? What kind are you?
>>
>>32259585
I disagree, Rowan is the one we've spent the most time with. It's more natural that we'd tell her first.
>>
>>32259490
>Basically your dad is batman.
>So there’s different kinds of angels, right? What kind are you?
>What kind of powers do you have exactly?

In that order.
>>
>>32259490
>So there’s different kinds of angels, right? What kind are you?
>>
>>32259607
We should probably lead in by asking about demon mixes in general

then possibly lead in to speculating that we might have traces of other stuff besides infernis and belphegor

test the waters a little, you know. I'm not sure that Rowan would necessarily take it totally well still.
>>
>>32259686
I'm certain that her chance of taking it badly is about 0%.
But sure, those sound like good lead ins. As long as we tell her now.
>>
>>32259490
>>Basically your dad is batman.
>Does Harvey fight with you guys too?
>>
>>32259490
>Basically your dad is batman and you're Robin.
>Does Harvey fight with you guys too? Does that make you more like Nightwing and him Robin?

Also supporting telling that we're part verwalken, but maybe not this exact moment
>>
>>32259703
What we took from Isaac was that being a mix usually makes you more powerful and less stable

And that was him being impressed at how sane we were with just two demon types, and what he thought was an already complete powerset.

Us sprouting new skills seemed to be quite concerning to him, and revealing that actually we have a THIRD type, one noted for being more unstable, is probably not going to be particularly reassuring.

The Hallows are too nice (and we've shown ourselves to be fundamentally good people) to go completely PURGE on us, but we should expect this news to be seriously worrying to them however we break it to them, especially given the emotional association with the killing of their grandfather. I support getting the information out there sooner rather than later, but it needs to be handled Extremely Delicately.
>>
>>32259766
>handled Extremely Delicately
Unfortunately, Sierra/Blood is the opposite of 'delicate,' in every sense of the word, except when it comes to her stress/sanity.
>>
“Okay, so basically your dad is batman,” you say, summing up Ro’s story.

“You could look at it like that,” Rowan replies, laughing.

You both laugh for a second before you calm down enough to continue. “So I’m like an Infernus Belphegoran mutt or whatever, are there different kinds of angels too then? What kind are you?”

“I’m part Seraph,” says Rowan, smiling slightly. She laughs a little bit. “Sorry. I just don’t usually get to tell anybody that.

“Nah, I get it,” you say. “That’s way cool. What kind of stuff can you do then?”

“Seraphim are like, the angelic warrior caste, so they’re way good at combat,” she says. “Long story short I smite things and am invincible. I’m faster and quicker on my feet than pure humans, too. Dad sprouts a halo when he gets all up in his righteous fury, but the only one in our family who did the wings and the whole shebang was my grandpa, but he actually was a Seraph so it doesn’t count.”
>>
>>32259766
Maybe, I thought that the additional penalties to sanity Verwelkens took was due to being burned by light, and we don't have that weakness.

Plus >>32259778 is right. Bringing stuff up subtlety isn't in character for Sierra.
>>
>>32259811

“If you’re invincible,” you say, “how did I hurt you?”

Rowan shrugs. “Blunt trauma? I can make it so my shirt stops bullets, but that doesn’t help when somebody grabs you and snaps your arm.”

“Huh. Harvey do this stuff with you too? I guess there’s not much worry about getting hurt when you can turn up the power shield.”

“He does,” says Rowan. “He can do a good Robin when he wants to. The family that slays together stays together. That’s pretty much my mom’s motto.”

You snicker to yourself. “You guys are a bunch of geeks,” you say. You glance back at the clock. It’s just about time for you to go.

>Welp, I gotta go.
>Tell her you’re Verwelken
>Other (?)
>>
>>32259778
most of that seems to be more a kind of protective bluster; given the need (and her increasing comfort with the Hallows) Sierra should be perfectly capable of being somewhat reticent/show some nervousness when revealing the info, in order to reassure that it doesn't mean we're actually killcrazy but were just hiding it.

Emphasising that since we sunburn pretty easily as opposed to dying in the sunlight it's probably only a small amount of Verwelken would probably be a good idea whenever we do reveal it.
>>
>>32259824
>Tell her you’re Verwelken
>>
>>32259824
>>Welp, I gotta go.
She only just started trusting us, let's wait a bit before we reveal that.
>>
>>32259824
>Welp, I gotta go.
>>
>>32259824
>Tell her you’re Verwelken
BLUNT FORCE EXPOSITION.
>>
>>32259824
>Tell her you have Verwelken powers
We should tell her, but not that we ARE Verwelken, we just have powers that might be connected to them, as far as we can tell.
But first, make her promise not to get angry.
>>
>>32259824
>Welp, I gotta go.
>Ask her what she thinks about you developing more powers.
She knows that much about us, but I don't think we want to do the full reveal just yet. Should we do that one by one or with all at once?
>>
>>32259824
Ask how mixed you can get, since Isaac seemed to be going somewhere with that/a little worried about all the powers. Anything you need to watch out for maybe?

Don't just throw out being a little bit Verwelken
>>
>>32259855
this seems sound if we do say anything on these lines

we only really have ONE power, which is fudging shadows a tiny bit, plus sunburning fairly easily.
>>
>>32259824
>Welp, I gotta go.

We ought to tell her at a time when we can actually discuss the implications of being a verwelken in detail, and we have somewhere else to be at the moment.
>>
>>32259824
>Tell her you’re Verwelken

>>32259856
She already knows about all the powers but the ones from our Verwelken ancestry. It's not something we can do one by one, there's only one more to share.
>>
>>32259855
This seems like a good middle ground between telling her and not. We have Infernus AND Belphagorian powers, it's kinda weird to have three separate demon powers.
>>
FUCK YEAH I CATCH IT FOR ONCE
>>
>>32259878
Not necessarily, it's just the only one we've developed so far that they don't know about. What if we get Stygian powers out of nowhere too?
>>
>>32259824
>Tell her you’re Verwelken

Reminder that she probably already knows after we hospitalized her rampaging, and that the more time we let pass without telling her the less she and the rest of the Hallows trust us.
>>
>>32259824
>Welp, I gotta go.
We would be advantageous in a fight with her if she didn't know.
>>
>>32259855
+1, it's being honest without blabbing too much.
>>
>>32259908
Which demon is giving us the venom?

And we could say that we just developed shadow powers, its barely a lie
>>
>>32259855
Seconded, don't want to scare anyone when we haven't confirmed it yet.
>>
>>32259824
>Welp, I gotta go.

>>
>>32259934
Wow, who the fuck did I link.
>>32259824
>>
>>32259934
...shit.

Maybe Belphagorian, since it's related to the fangs? Not sure about the veins though.

Wild stab in the dark, what if we're not actually a mutt, but our power is to copy the powers of whoever we encounter?
>>
>>32259999
Where would we have gotten our shadow powers then? Trevon isn't a shadow demon, and he's the only one we ran into.
>>
>>32259999
>Wild stab in the dark, what if we're not actually a mutt, but our power is to copy the powers of whoever we encounter?
That seems hilariously unlikely, since we hadn't encountered ANY demons prior to Trevon, and already had three different basic powers before then. We had a shadow power, an emotion power, and a fire/claw power from day 1.
>>
>>32260045
That dude with the scissors we have nightmares about?
>>
>>32259855
Good point. For all we know, we're a demonic version of Wolverine, a living weapon made for battle.
>>
>>32260076
Never met him IRL, and we have no scissor powers.
>>
You need to go, but there’s something you feel that you ought to tell Rowan before you do. You bite the inside of your cheek for second, trying to work up to it. “Hey. Ro?” you say.

“What?” she asks.

I’ve got shadow powers. I’m part Verwelken. I’m just like the guy that killed grandpa batman. Please don’t hate me.

You can’t say it. (+5 Stress: 5/100)

“What’s wrong?” Rowan says.

“I have to go,” you say instead, standing up. “See you later.” You walk out without another word.

Some time later, you’re with Cassandra in the minivan. “That’s it,” you say, recognizing the church. Several cars are parked out front, and people dressed in dark colors mill about the entrance, talking to one another. You can recognize a couple Cobras among them, even at this distance. “Here’s good,” you say, indicating a stretch of sidewalk still a bit far away from the place. You have Isaac’s old cellphone in your pocket, pressed upon you at the insistence of Mrs. Hallow.

You’ve become tenser and tenser closer you got to the place, and now you’ve got more than a little anxiety in the pit of your stomach. (+10 Stress: 15/100)

Cassandra pulls over, and looks over you, hands still on the wheel. She’s noticed you becoming noticeably more tense along the drive over here. “If you’d like, I could come with you,” she says tentatively.

>I have to do this on my own.
>You wouldn’t fit in.
>I’ll call you when it’s over.

All three of these. It's a sweet gesture, but this is something we have to do.

Still seems hilariously unlikely. After all, we haven't picked up any of the Stygian's powers. If we suddenly start manifesting illusions and shit unexplained by our current supposed heritage, then I might be inclined to start agreeing with your totally-baseless-at-the-moment theory.

As an aside, since Sierra is a comics nerd I think she would be a big fan of the X-Men. Instead spending her childhood wishing that an owl would drop off a letter inviting her to Hogwarts, she probably fantasized about being sent to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

>>

She would probably blame the gang as a whole, rather than us specifically. She may or may not single us out. The other Cobras might rally around us in that case though, but they'll probably want to know what the FUCK we did during the shootout.
>>
>>32260397
Damn white women getting our boys killed.
>>
The offer takes you off guard, and you have to take a couple seconds to mill it over before coming to a conclusion. Monster was your friend. You were there when he died, and you were the one that paid it back to his killer. Nobody was at your side holding your hand through any of that, and you can’t have this be any different. You can’t accept the offer.

“Thanks,” you say, “but this is something I’ve got to do on my own.” You don’t know if you sound sincere or not, but you can’t help it. “I’ll call when I’m done.” You step out of the car and straighten your jacket.

“Okay. Goodbye, Sierra,” Cassandra says.

You nod. “See you.”

She drives off, and you walk forward, hands in pockets. You must have walked this street a hundred times, but now its familiarity feels foreign to you. When you get near enough the church, a couple familiar faces notice you. You can hear their conversation shift to you when they think you’re still out of earshot.

“It’s Blood.”

“I didn’t think she’d show.”

“Shut up, she and Ben were tight, of course she’d show.”

“I was just fine never seeing her again after that night.”

“Man you owe your life to her, show some respect.”

When you get a little closer, one of them waves. “Hey Blood!” says Pit Bull. He’s got his normally wild hair tied down into neat corn-rows, and he wears a suit jacket that’s a size too big, slacks a couple inches too short, and white socks with black loafers.
>>
>>32260538

He looks like he’s flailing around a bunch to get your attention, even though you can see him quite clearly. You realize that if you weren’t wearing contacts right now, you probably would only be able to pick out which one was him by his wild motions. The Cobra knows you well.

You walk up through the gates. There are more old and young people present than there are Cobras, but they’re the only ones you recognize easily, so they stand out to you. You notice as you come forward, they back up slightly to give you a wide berth.

“Where you been, Blood? You up and disappeared after you tore ‘em up those crabs and saved our asses,” says Bull, holding out a hand for the Cobra fist-bump handshake thing. You notice from the way he’s standing and how the others regard him that he’s probably stepped into Reaper’s shoes since the night everything went down.

While he’s never given you trouble per se, he’s being a little bit nicer to you in a kind of showy way. Maybe he’s trying to show the other Cobras they don’t need to be afraid of you? Or maybe his objective is to get you to come back to the gang.

>Complete handshake combo.
>You know me. Killin’ crabs.

Now, don't go making promises like that. We might fall back on them for help in an emergency - like if something terrible happens to the Hallows - and we'll still help their asses out too if a situation gets dire enough. We're just not going to be directly affiliated anymore - no more day-to-day interactions.

You slap the hand and complete an intricate series of fist bumps. “You know,” you say when you finish, “you guys were there for me when I needed it, and that’s cool, but I came back to pay respects to Ben.”

You can almost hear Pit Bull spring the old blood for life slogan on you, but he wisely forbears. “Yeah I get you, Blood. We all get it, right fellas?” he asks, looking around at the other Cobras. They either agree, nod, or keep quiet.

“Where’s Big M’s grandma at?” you ask, looking about at the people around you. You’ve only seen her a couple times before, but you think you should be able to recognize her.

“She’s inside by the coffin,” says one of the Cobras.

“Thanks Jerome,” you say back. You head inside the church. There’s a bunch of people here. It makes sense, when you think about it. Almost everybody likes Ben – that is, liked Ben. You wonder who’d show up to your funeral. Ben would have, but you’re at his, so that’s not going to work out.

You make your way to the casket, and stop a bit behind a little old lady sitting alone on the front row.

You walk up beside the old lady and sit down beside her, keeping your gaze fixed on the casket. “Yeah I’m... really sorry about all this. I uh. Guess that doesn’t make anything better, but I still am,” you say. You look down at your hands. “Ben was a really nice guy. He was, you know, really nice. And he was my best friend. I guess Ben had a million friends, but I didn’t mind. He thought I was somebody worth knowing. I suppose that made me feel more like I was somebody worth knowing? Anyway, I mean, everybody’s going to miss him. He was the best,” you say, standing up. You don’t want to get too mopey, even if this is a funeral, “I hope you’re doing okay. A hundred people probably told you they’d help you out and stuff, so uh. Let them?”

The lady looks up at you and smiles. She has a very worn face. “I recognize you,” she said. “You’re that little girl who goes by that silly nickname and ran around with my Benjamin all the time. What’s your real name, child?”

You’re unable to think of telling her anything but the truth. “It’s Sierra.”

“Sierra, now that’s a pretty name,” says Ben’s grandma approvingly. “Sit back down, child, that’s the reverend coming out now.”

“I don’t know if –“
>>
>>32261383

“Now don’t you go and make me repeat myself, girl. Are you here for the funeral or not?” she asks, putting on the air of an indignant old woman.

Seeing no way out, you do as she says, and stay at her side through the whole memorial service.

There’s one part where people start coming up to say their piece about the departed. You feel maybe you should say something too, but you’re not so good in front of crowds. Maybe it would be better if you didn’t.

School is a welcome distraction from the events of the past couple days, as well as from the funeral yesterday. It gives you something to do with your hands and your brain. Plus you get to come up with more and more extravagant causes for your and Rowan’s injuries whenever people sign her cast. “You’re just going to be out of it in a week,” you say, noting all the signatures on her arm hoping she gets well soon. You’re helping Rowan art up some Shakespearean poster thing in English class. “Just giving them false hope that they’re cool enough to be on your arm for a month.”

“I told them it was a sprain,” she says, keeping her attention focused on the book she’s mining quotes out of for the poster. “Sprains don’t last a month.”

“Nobody wears a full arm cast for a sprain,” you say. You’re about to say more, but Rowan silences you with a look. You look over your shoulder and find out why.

Alecia leans over your shoulder to look down at the poster. She’s bursting your personal space bubble. (+1 Stress: 15/100)

“Wow, it’s really coming together,” she says. “My group can’t even decide who’s supposed to cut paper.”

“Why don’t you start cutting paper then?” asks Rowan.

“Please,” says Alecia, knowingly. “I noticed your arm – it seems like everybody’s saying different things how you broke it. What really happened?”

Ro looks at you to take the lead this time. The common theme between your excuses is that, whatever happened, you were both involved, and it whipped you both.

“Have you ever played Frogger?” you ask, answering her question with a question of your own.

“Once or twice, I think,” says Alecia. Rowan maneuvers her arm to give Alecia a better angle as she signs it.

“Well you see, it all started when we got talking about Frogger,” you tell her.

“I’ve got it on my Sega Dreamcast,” Rowan adds, looking down at the swooping signature Alecia has left on her cast-constrained arm.

“Yeah, and what happened is, well, it’s a pretty simple game,” you continue, “so we were wondering about how it’d be in real life. Anyway, it was all going pretty good until the Volkswagen came in from my blind spot.”

Alecia’s eyes widen. “Wait. Excuse me?”

“It was a spur of the moment competition,” Rowan explains, giving an embarrassed smile.

“You got hit by a car while you were running across a road?”

“We got across roads just fine,” you say. “But the freeway turns out to be a lot wider when you’re running acrossthan it does when you’re looking at it from the shoulder.”

“That’s crazy. There’s no way you could have made it through that alive,” Alecia says, disbelieving.

Rowan scoffs. “Well of course we know that now,” she says. “Goodness gracious. You asked. No need to rub my face in it.”

That gives Alecia pause. “Well I’d better get back to my group,” she says. She turns and walks away. “There’s no way that’s true,” she mutters under her breath, but kind of in a doubtful way that means maybe she thinks it might be true.

Badly worded, I guess.

What I meant is that seems like most of the players (me included) want to tell Hallows we're verwelken. So spooks to that!
>>
>>32264000
why?
>>
“I’ll meet up with you later,” you say. “There’s a backboard with my name on it. Where do you usually hang out?”

“By the gym. Nobody’s over there during lunch, usually,” she says.

“Right. See you there then.” You head off toward the blacktop. Last time you were here, it looked like they were getting pretty intense. You could use a little exercise that wasn’t related to fighting in any way. You’ll probably go a game and come back in.

Going outside, you wander past the throngs of students to reach the basketball court. Two teams are going pretty hard at it, with several students playing spectator. There’s some shoving and definite foul play, but they let everything but the most egregious offenses slide. There are nine people playing. Uneven teams. Perfect fit.

>You need one more player.
>Wait for the ball to go out. Catch it, and jump in.
>Why don’t I show you how the game is meant to be played.
>Other (?)
I saw the idea to combine the two, but I’d already wrote most of this so… yeah. Casual hoops later. Action now.
>>
>>32263969
We're going to tell the Hallows that we've got a dash of Verwelken somewhere in with the 60:40 Infernis:Belphegor we seem to have as our main mix, but it's going to be somewhat uncomfortable and we're feeling super nervous about it since a Verwelken murdered their kickass grandpa.

It needs to be done, as it's far better to tell them than to get caught hiding things, but we need to be careful about it. Extracting promises not to be mad or hate us beforehand would probably be a good plan and communicate our discomfort/acknowlege their own concerns about it.

While I was voting that just blurting it out was a bad idea, attempting to keep it hidden is even fucking worse and when it inevitably comes to light somehow we lose any opportunity to couch it in more favorable terms and they're going to ask how many other things we're hiding from them, goodbye any trust.

>>
You wait for a lull in the action. “You need one more player,” you shout, loud enough so that everyone can hear you.

The players grind to a halt and look over at you.

“That one being me,” you say, grinning as you step into the court.

There’s a short argument among them, as to whether or not they should admit you to their number. The arguments against you are that A. You’re a girl and B. You can’t play rough. The arguments in your favor are that A. They need one more player and B. Let’s see what she can do.

The ball is reset, and the teams are in line. You get the impression that the full team you’re playing against consists of five friends that do this every day, while your team is made up of four comers and goers that eventually lose so much that they leave and make room for somebody else.

One of the friend players throws the ball up into the air, and your heart sets to beating in preparation.
>>
>>32264244
You keep thinking that.
>>
>>32264322

The ball, however only seems to go slower. Seriously, it’s still going up. Oh wait. Now it’s stopped. Is it going to start falling any time – oh okay, there it goes, you guess? This is worse than slow motion. You look around at the other players. Are they seeing this? Their eyes are all fixed on the ball. You watch one of them blink. His eyelid falls down like a garage door, slams into the bottom lid, and then rolls back up with ponderous weight.

Huh. Time feels like it’s speeding up again, but at the same time, it keeps that same slow, plodding pace that it assumed just before. You get the feeling this won’t be your average basketball game.

The ball gets knocked back to team friendship. Their tall big guy makes a strong advance onto your side of the court. He positions himself for a longshot, even with one of your guys blocking him, and then… he doesn’t have the ball.

You jog away, dribbling down their side of the court. Two guys are suddenly on you. Without thinking too much about it, you dodge between them and throw the ball down so it bounces under their legs and back up to your hands when you’re on the other side. You position yourself carefully beneath the hoop, take time to line up the shot, and toss it up.

Swish. Everything goes quiet for a second as both teams try to make sense of what happened. The whole play lasted less than five seconds.

You catch the ball in one hand when it comes down. “So, we keeping score or what?” you ask, spinning the ball on a finger. It seems to stay balanced of its own accord.

While you do play, you don’t exactly have to exert yourself to be the best player on your team. If you pushed yourself a little, you would easily be better than all of them, but you keep it laid back. You decide to rely on teamwork more than your unholy b-ball skills to score points and keep a good game going, and to make the other guys feel like they stand a chance.

Yes, Rowan is a turbo lesbo.

Evidence is that she was part of her school's soccer team. That's like Lesbius Maximae.
>>
>>32265364

A couple of team friendship’s players single you out as the lynchpin of their defeat, and begin trying to take you down a notch by body checking you or tripping you up, but you effortlessly avoid their rather clumsy attacks

When your team attains a sizable lead and after you’ve got your heart rate up, you peace out and walk off the court, which has by now has attracted a few dozen spectators. “Good game,” you say, throwing the ball over your shoulder back to one of your guys.

As you walk away, you can’t help but pick up a few comments. “Who the hell was that?”

“I ain’t seen her before.”

“Now that’s basketball done right.”

“I wish I could play like that.”

You feel one set of particular eyes on you, but when you look back to see who it was, you can’t pick anyone out from the crowd. Weird.

You turn your attention to finding where Rowan’s super special hangout place is. Going inside, you go to the gym and find a little alcove with a bunch of tables set up, almost right outside one of the doors that goes into the main floor. There’s pretty much no one there except for Rowan and a couple other people, one of which you recognize as Baron. You’ve managed to creep up on them, so you find yourself unintentionally (or intentionally) eavesdropping.

“-always getting weird injuries. Admit it. You’re secretly a superhero.” The girl talking has dark skin and dark hair pulled into an ornate bun. She looks kind of Indian to you. Not native American Indian, but rather far east indies Indian.

Baron pulls out a pocket notebook and begins jotting down a note. “Front page article. Covert Crimefighter Comes Forth,” he narrates. “C’mon, it’ll be great.”

You walk over, and Ro notices your approach, and goes to stand up, but elects at the last moment to remain seated. “Hi,” she says. “Guys, this is Sierra. She’s been staying with my family for a few days.”

“Hello, Rowan’s mystery friend,” says the Indian girl. She has a pair of square glasses and a colorful skirt and vest kind of outfit that looks like it’s made out of material taken from an old person’s couch. And yet, it’s festive. “I’m Vikrama,” she says, standing up to shake your hand.

“Hey,” you say.

Baron seems a little taken aback by your presence. “Well this is a little awkward,” he says, laughing to himself. You find that without the element of surprise, you’re a bit better able to handle yourself in Baron’s presence than you were a couple days back.

You give a lopsided smile. “Yeah, about that.”

“What’s that?” asks Rowan.

“Well we met on Monday, but it was kind of weird,” baron says, rubbing his brow. He gives a cheesy smile. “Do you mind if I hit the reset switch? I’m Baron, and I’ve never met you before.”
>>
>>32265433

“What a coincidence,” you say, happy to sweep all that business under the rug. “I’ve never met you before either.” (-2 Stress: 6/100) You take a seat at their table.

Vikrama jumps back into the conversation. “So what brings you to San Fransisco, Sierra? Ro’s been pretty tight lipped about everything.” She flashes a playfully vindictive look at the girl. “As usual!”

“Okay, not like that’s the most cryptic thing I’ve heard today,” says Vikrama.

“And yet,” you say, “it’s the truth. So what about you guys? Why would anyone want to be Rowan’s friend?”

Rowan gives you an even stare for that comment.

“Just look at her,” says Baron, gesturing to all of Rowan, foot in cast, dyed blonde hair, Spideman jacket and all, “and the riddle solves itself.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Ro says, frowning at the undo attention.

“She’s secretly a superhero,” Baron tells you conspiratorially. “But don’t tell anyone I said that, especially Ro.”

Rowan punches him in the shoulder with her good arm. “Cut that out. Actually,” she says, turning to you, “we do work on the school paper together. It takes a lot of time, so we generally hang out a lot.”

“Mingling business and pleasure,” says Vikrama, in a far more suggestive tone of voice than even you’re comfortable with in a joke. When she makes her silly face, you recognize it from the picture on Rowan’s dresser. She was dressed up as Storm.

Christ, when did all the retards get in here? Must be summer.
>>
>>32266067
The fisting joke was probably too far to actually use, but here one of her friends already has a running joke that she's a superhero. Playing along with that is just geeks joking around, not breaking the masquerade.
>>
>>32266161
When four different people tell you you're dumb it's time to take a step back and consider that they might be right.

Of course the dumber you are the less likely you're going to do that.

I know it's difficult, but try to untie the knot in your jammies, then see:

Normally you might be right, but this is 4chan.

“That’s some sass you’ve got there,” you say in response, keeping your tone flat. “Geeze Rowan. You get these guys in a two-pack, or did you have to buy them individually?” (-2 Stress: 6/100)

Vikrama raises a provocative eyebrow. “Believe it or not, it was a buy one get one free sale.”

Baron laughs, while Rowan tries not to laugh. “Can we not do this right now?” she asks. “Sierra is a guest.”

“Meh, it’s fine with me,” you say, mildly entertained. “Okay. Question number two. You guys all have costumes, right? Don’t deny it I saw the pictures. That wasn’t the question, the question is this: do you actually like all the costume stuff, or was it all Ro’s idea?”

“Well,” says Baron, giving Rowan a patronizing look.

Vikrama waves her hands. “Oh Rowan totally talked me into it,” she said, “but comic-con was a lot of fun. I’d go there and cosplay again in a heartbeat.”

Rowan’s face goes pale. “About that,” she says.

Unless Baron is actually psychic, he wouldn't suddenly pick up on the monster hunter part as being the truth after all

Glueing in the alien hunter bit just makes the entire statement as a whole sound even more like hyperbolic fiction.

>>32266813

“You know that’s really interesting, because I have this weird memory of somebody telling me those were Halloween costumes,” you say, effecting a tone of deep consideration.

“Well you wear them on Halloween too,” says Rowan, turning a shade of red.

“Huh,” Baron says, considering Ro with a straight face, “I think you broke her.”

You laugh at Ro’s plight. “Oh this is real great,” you say. “This is the plot thickening, right here.”

“There’s nothing embarrassing with doing something fun with your friends,” Vikrama says, coming to Rowan’s defense.

“I’m not hating or anything,” you say, still chuckling. “It’s just funny that she’s all like, I’m really tough, and then she’s all like, but don’t laugh at my hobbies, okay? Chill out, Ro. That kind of thing sounds fun. I was just surprised, I mean, I didn’t take you for the type.”

The bell rings then, sadly, summoning you away.

Baron looks over at you as he gets his stuff. “Hey, we’ve got a ‘getting to know you’ column in the school paper. The thing is pretty much everybody’s been covered. If you’re going to be here for a while, maybe we could put you in.”

“I don’t know if that’s Sierra’s kind of thing,” Rowan says, giving her a hesitant look on your behalf.

“Let the girl speak for herself, Ro, you’re smothering her,” Vikrama replies, drama oozing from her every word. “I for one think it’s a splendid idea. Sierra, you’re interesting, aren’t you? Do you have any allergies related to interviews or journalism? We might be able to squeeze you into get you in next week’s paper if we interview you today or tomorrow.”

On one hand, you’re not sure you want everyone in the school ‘getting to know you’. On the other hand, these guys seem like fun, and they’d probably be able to do you justice in print. It’s kind of a big thing to think about.

As much fun as it sounds, it’s not your speed to go trumpeting your arrival anyplace. “You may not have known this about me,” you say quietly, “but my parents were… killed by highschool newspaper journalists. You mentioning this interview just now it… I can’t go through that again,” you say sadly, nearly on the verge of crocodile tears.

“That’s harsh,” says Baron. “Welp. I’m off to class. See ya’s all later.”

“Goodbye,” says Rowan.

Vikrama gives a deep sigh. “Alas, it was not meant to be,” she says. “Will you be here tomorrow, Sierra?”

“I don’t know. Probably,” you say. “Who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind about the paper thing later. Don’t get your hopes up. Or down, I guess.”

“You really do go with the flow, don’t you,” Vikrama says, impressed. “I’ll see you guys later. And get better Rowan! We flounder without your strength.” She gives the girl a hug before hurrying off.

“They seemed to like you,” Rowan says, smiling.

“I got the feeling they’re liking kinds of people,” you say. You secretly also seemed to like them, you think.

“C’mon, let’s go. With my foot we’re almost going to be late to math as is.”

The two of you close ranks and move out.
