Hey guys, it's only last week since I found out about this CYOA and have been catching up by reading the archives. I read about the discussions regarding similarities between MGR and KLK and saw those unfinished drawings and it got me inspired enough to make my own. Here's my attempt hope you guys like it. Currently a WIP.

The following day, you get up fairly early. You did go to sleep in the afternoon, after all.

While the stab wound was gone seconds after you've removed the sword from it, you still feel a bit sore. Luckily, Satsuki takes that into consideration.

"You trained with the Devas and Mankanshoku yesterday. I'll be the one to do it today. You should rest."

"Thanks, Satsuki. Just make sure not to go too hard on them. Having to reassure them after every training would get tiring fast." You chuckle.

"I'll keep that in mind."

Satsuki leaves, and you're left wondering what to do next. Sure, you're not quite in top condition, but you're not particularly worn out, either.

You decide to visit the lab. You still haven't had the chance to finish the conversation about the mind link with your father. Other than that, you want to know if him and Iori have made any progress in their projects.

As you walk through the Nudist Beach headquarters, you notice a lot of construction workers in every major area. What's that about?

You step inside the lab. If you didn't see them during meetings in the command room, you'd wonder if Souichirou and Iori ever come out of here.

"Hey. You two got time to talk?", you call out.

Your father turns to you. "Oh, Ryuuko. Good morning. Actually, this is great timing on your part."

"Why's that?"

"I believe the Kamui translation device is ready. I'd like to give it a shot."

"Oh, that's great. Let's get to it."

Souichirou sifts through the various devices on the desk, and picks up one that looks like an ordinary earpiece. He puts it on.

"Senketsu, say something, please.", he says.

"Uh... nice to meet you, Doctor Kiryuuin.", Senketsu says.

"Hmm... that's no good. I'm only getting gibberish."

Senketsu droops, resigned. If it wasn't for the suspenders, your skirt would slide off.

"Hey, cheer up, Senketsu. It will work eventually, right dad?", you ask.

"Well, I'll keep trying.", Souichirou answers.

He hands you the earpiece. You're not sure how that will help, but you plug your other ear with a finger.

"Say something, Senketsu."

You can still hear his response perfectly clear. "You haven't ironed me in a while."

Just as he says that, the earpiece emits a series of garbled electronic sounds.

"I'll do it later today, I promise.", you say.

You give your father the earpiece back.

"Well, I can hear what you meant, dad. Still, how does this thing even work?"

"Well, to explain that, first I'll have to explain how Senketsu and Junketsu talk to you and Satsuki. You see, it's not entirely accurate to say they're "talking"."

"What do you mean?"

"They don't make any sounds. Instead, they send out a telepathic signal, which resonates with your nervous system. Your brain interprets that signal as a voice, which is why it seems like they're talking normally."

That's odd. You can communicate with Satsuki through your mind link, but when you do that, you can clearly tell you hear her inside your head, rather than through your ears.

"So, why can't other people hear them?", you ask.

"A better question to ask here is: why can you and Satsuki hear them? The answer to that is simple: Life Fibers. The ones in your bodies, to be exact. They serve as an amplifier for the telepathic signal, I believe."

"Huh. Anyway, how does all this relate to the way the translator works?"

You haven't spent a lot of time in the lab, so perhaps Satsuki and the Three-Stars aren't done training yet. Thinking that, you head to the training area.

You open the door, and step inside. Immediately afterwards, Gamagoori gets launched at the wall next to you.

"So, how's it going today?", you ask him.

"...Lady Satsuki's training methods are different than yours, Lady Ryuuko."

Just as he says that, he is pulled back towards the fight by one of his whips.

"You're not done yet, Gamagoori! You can still fight!", Satsuki calls out.

The last time you've taken a serious beating from Satsuki was your first fight with her. Since then, you've been training at a roughly equal level. The trainings were rough, but always bearable.

It really seems that Satsuki's way of tutoring is less forgiving, though. She's not taking them out and letting them rest. She's helping them up and making them continue the fight, all the while barking out comments on their performance.

"This isn't a duel, Sanageyama!"

"Pay more attention, Mankanshoku!"

"Gamagoori, you're being too passive!"

While you're not sure if this method encourages them, they are certainly still fighting. You spot Ayako to the side, watching the scene with a mixture of terror and awe. You approach her.

"Hey, Ayako. How did it go with Nonon yesterday?"

She bows. "Lady Ryuuko. Miss Jakuzure was a bit hesitant at first, but she agreed to train. I was offered to participate in this training as well, but..."

Why is Monkey always treated like a joke, and why did Trigger make him job so much? He's been treated much better here, but still. I mean, if you think about it he's a pretty damned strong and skilled human.

Even without fibers Sastuki shouldn't really count, because she was trying to save the world and had funds. She had a way stronger drive, literally trying to save the world, and access to high quality training programs most likely.

Ryuuko has life-fibers, along with Sastuki in the CYOA.

Basically, I think Monkey being rendered a joke for not having life-fibers or parents at war with each other, with the fate of the world on your shoulders being handed down to you, is the utmost of bullshit.

Monkey deserves much more respect than he's been given, and as an Uzufag it upsets me.

He'd likely be a way more skilled and powerful fighter than either Satsuki or Ryuuko if you took out the fibers or the drive to save the world. Hell, give Uzu both those things and he'd be an even more fierce being than the two of them together most likely.

But enough, back to OP's enjoyable CYOA, sorry for the wall.

Nonon, Inu, and Gamagoori aren't half the fighters that Uzu is, yet there weren't treated in the same manner as Uzu, who's very likely one of the strongest humans.

He deserved much more respect from Trigger and the fans than he was given.

Dude. It's about the Worf Effect. If you have a weak character getting beaten, no one will be surprised. If a though character is getting beaten, the audience will know it's time to crap their pants. But if you have a character who's supposed to be strong (as, for exemple, a master swordsman capable of incedible feats), but always get beaten, the audience will just see a weak character.

"Show, don't tell" is very important in a visual media, and if someone's on-screen fight record is bad, you can't imagine them being good fighters.

Nope, Worf was a joke until he went to DS9 and re-etablished himself as a grade-A badass. But the Worf Effect is just the result of the writers being incapable to handle a character who's strong enough to cause problem to the BBEG without being a main character.

As we get closer to the OVA and farther from the ending, I feel that if Manketsu is the only alternative, I'd take it if it meant Senketsu got to come back. Whereas I once threw up at the mere sight of Teen Ganondorf, now I'm not so sure.

If you think back to it, of uzu's fights he loses first against Ryuuko, wins the rematch, gets humiliated by Nui Bullshit in the naturals, trounces takarada, apparently keeps his uniform in tact the longest, and then joining the stomp by the end. his record isn't bad at all. His defeat against nui is the biggest problem i think purely from the fact she does it once, against him and then it is never ever used again.

Going to point out that he went toe to toe briefly with junketsu clad ryuko, with the tailor's daggers and held his own, while effectively naked

Yeah, I was just thinking this. Uzu gets made fun of a lot for "jobbing" but the only person he actually Jobs is Nui, and she uses a cheap trick, and also is, y'know, a final tier antagonist. Everybody focuses on "BANANA" without remembering that he trashed the shit out of the protagonist in their rematch. And toward the end, he goes toe to toe with Ragyo as part of that confrontation, and can keep his shit together. But, people remember the funny or embarrassing shit more. Sanageyama's W/L/D record is probably as good as Ryuko's.

No Tsumugu, that's the real jobmaster 9000. After trouncing Ryuko the first time, he never contributed in any valuable way to a conflict.

I still like Tsumugu, purely for his ability to wire a corridor full of explosives in 20 seconds at most. But uzu's only real failure was to Nui who used her banshi trick once against him, tried and failed against senketsu and then throughout her fights with the deva's never used it again in favour of "Nui Clones for everyone"

Uzu's Win/Loss/Draw Record, as far as I can remember, is this:

(Counting fights that stopped before there was a definitive winner a draw)

So basically, he wins nearly as much as he loses (Flashbacks almost don't count, since Satsuki has presumably been combat training since she was fiveish), and after Nui takes him out in a single blow, he never again has the shit kicked out of him, he just continues to be part of ensemble fights against the three highest level antagonists, which, barring Ryuko's final technical victory over Ragyo, never end in a clean win/loss anyway.
