You're dreaming...Today is just like yesterday, tomorrow will be just like today. Will your nightmares never end? You're dangling off the ground, being held by your throat up in the air. The gnarled claw around your neck tears at your flesh, but holds off from finishing you at the moment. Around you, your surroundings seem to come into focus. Isn't this your house? No, it's too warm to be your house. Too inviting. Despite the carnage and debris strewn everywhere, this place makes you feel at peace. Your attention shifts back to your mortal peril. The monster with its claw upon your throat. Its thick hide and dark fur mix together to make its features seem even more alien and bizarre. The bat-like, twisted face snarls at you. You can't tell if it is excited or angry. At its feet are two very large dogs, one dark, one light, beaten to a pulp. Though they still breathe, you can't imagine they're in any condition to move. Reflexively, your hands move up to grasp the creature's arm. It laughs at your token resistance and narrows its golden eyes.

"What's this? Revenge? Don't be so cliche!"

It throws you to the ground and steps on your chest. You can feel your ribs breaking and you cry out voicelessly. The creature continues to laugh and howl, taunting you with glee.

"You couldn't do anything! I broke all of them so easily! Weren't you supposed to be special? Well...I hope you'll make a fine meal, at least. You are what you eat after all, and I've heard you're quite the delicacy..."
>>
>>32226855
The creature licks what passes for its lips and reaches down with a claw. You turn away, not eager to face your end just yet, but then a beam of light flashes out over your head, slashing through the creature's arm. It howls and jumps back as another flash of white strikes the ground in front of it. The two dogs leap up, grabbing it by the legs with their jaws.

"What!? Get off you!"

You look back to see what is going on, but are blinded. You can only see a faint silhouette against a corona of light. With a single finger outstretched, the small form directs another beam of light at the monster, who catches it in the shoulder. But...it won't be enough. Something of this level won't be enough. The dogs hold the monster down as it struggles, and the light behind you grows brighter and brighter. You can see the light coalescing into a great pillar, searing the ground as it slowly expands outward. Something like that would be enough to kill this beast, certainly. But...your eyes fall to the dogs. Those dogs will be consumed by that beam of light as well...You did something. You're sure you did something. What did you do?

Okay, a solid start!
>>
You jump up and take hold of the monster, your strength increasing exponentially as you do so. You feel it howl and squirm underneath your grip, but you hold firm. This monster. This creature. This beast! It is taking everything from you. Everything! You have to do something to make it pay! You turn your vision to see the approaching wave of light. It rips up the ground and reduces the stone to slag as it travels forward, indiscriminately destroying everything in its path. You know if you stay here, you'll be destroyed too but...that's fine. As long as she's safe, that's all right. You close your eyes as the light connects with you, and you embrace oblivion.

--

You open your eyes. The ceiling of the old headquarters meets you with its cold, unwelcoming fluorescent bulbs. You roll off of the couch you had been sleeping on and cradle your head. Just what was that? What's going on?

"Are you awake, Mr. Popular?"

Shining Void stands in the doorway, bringing a cigarette up to her lips. She looks worn haggard, and the dark circles under her eyes are even more pronounced today. Her normally pure white coat is covered in various fluids, blood being the most prevalent among them. She steps inside and strikes you on the head without any warning.

"We almost lost Bullets because you decided to get yourself caught. You're damn lucky that I was here."

What? She was poisoned! How was any of this your fault? Void hits you again before taking a long drag off her cigarette, blowing the smoke out over your head as she turns away.

"With the way you have her wrapped around your finger, there's no way she was going to leave you there. You should take some responsibility for her, since you're the one who made her like that. She can have visitors now...you should go see her when you feel like being a man."

Take responsibility? Please, Claire was always a creepy stalker. You'll go visit her, but it's not your fault she likes you. It's not your fault at all. Void shakes her head and takes a seat, seemingly done with the conversation. You leave the room and make your way through the twisted hallways of the old headquarters. You find the clinic ward fairly easily and see that there is a bustle as nurses from the UGN rush back and forth between the rooms. Seems like Strangers have been attacking the other agents as well, most likely as a diversionary tactic. You hate to admit it, but even though they're very weak, these Strangers know what they're doing. It's simple enough to find Claire's room, and you take hold of the latch. Something courses through you at that moment, and you feel a hint of hesitation.

Why should you be nervous? It's just Claire in there. You've seen Claire every day for quite some time now. You should be used to this. You shake your head and push the door open. The cold, sterile light of the clinic floods your vision as you step into the room. Claire is laying down on the cot, with many lines and tubes running back and forth from her arm, dripping fluids into her system at a regular pace. An oxygen mask covers her face, and her clothes have been replaced by the pale pink gown you've come to associate with the UGN medical centers. Her eyes are shut and you find yourself in a rare moment where Clare is not aware of you.

>Wake her up. You should thank her.

You pull up a chair next to the bed and sit. As you thought, when Claire is quiet like this, when she's not desperately attempting to appeal to you, she's really quite something. Even though the sterile sheets and tubing, even through the bleeping of the monitor, and even through her skin is still pallid from the poison, she's still so captivating. You find yourself staring at her more intensely, your pulse quickening, and you swallow hard. Sweat runs down your brow, and you find your breath growing shallow. Then, from deep inside of you, it lashes out.

The Impulse. This unnatural urge is coming back at you. You slap yourself and take a few deep breaths, letting out as much tension as you can. You've got to calm down. This can't keep happening to you, over and over again. Whatever that doctor did to you doesn't seem like it's completely gone away yet. These impulses are getting more frequent, more urgent. You didn't want to admit it to yourself, but you've even had trouble sleeping just because you know that Claire is only minutes away.

By the time you get control of yourself again, Claire is stirring. She looks up at you and blinks a few times. Her blank face seems to twitch slightly, as if something were twitching at her eyebrows. It passes in a moment and, in a small voice, she speaks up.

"I'm happy to see you safe."

Is that really something someone in her position should be saying?

"I apologize for my failure. I was caught up in our hotel date and did not test the food before eating it, even though I knew we were being hunted by saboteurs."

>Accept the apology and leave. Your impulse is still...

SPECIAL ALTERNATE BAD END FOR SPECIAL ALTERNATE BAD END LOVERS
...You find yourself staring at her more intensely, your pulse quickening, and you swallow hard. Sweat runs down your brow, and you find your breath growing shallow. Then, from deep inside of you, it lashes out.

The Impulse. This unnatural urge is coming back at you. You growl, your instincts taking over. You're so tired, and you just can't fight it anymore. Not with her as vulnerable as this. You tear the gown from her form, watching her open her eyes with a start. You grab at her chest, savoring her velvety touch and you press your face into hers. As your mind crumbles and all reason fades, you can only see her look away, resigning herself to whatever fate awaits her. But you don't care about that. All you care about now is this soft, white flesh and the warm, red blood running beneath it...

Is she really feeling better? You've never seen Claire be that injured, and it takes something really incredible to put an Overed down. Claire weakly takes your hand and nods.

"The poison was incredible. Shining Void replaced virtually all of my fluids with her own, and I'm told that I still nearly died several times. The Strangers Unit appears to be very familiar with what poisons will be effective in the right concentrations. However, I have been told that I will make a full recovery," Claire puts her other hand over her mouth and strikes a demure pose, "I am very sorry to have worried you, darling."

You weren't that worried. Claire is an elite agent. She must have done this sort of thing all the time.

"Perhaps, but my body is not just for myself any more. It is for you and one day for our children. I must take proper care of it, even when on a mission."

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. You don't know why you bothered to show Claire any concern at all. You simply sigh and leave the room without another word, not willing to indulge Claire and her bizarre fantasies any more than you already have. Now that it seems Claire is going to be fine, you ought to start thinking about how to deal with these Strangers. Even though you are their target, it looks like they're pointing their swords at more than just yourself. You should...

You need to get a plan together. You know that you can't fight these Strangers alone. They have the funding, the numbers, and the experience on their side to just keep chipping away at you. And while it pains you to say so, the one most capable of putting a plan together at the UGN is none other than...

"Oh? So you finally deigned to come see me?"

Chief is looking as pleasant as ever. Her normally perfect hair is in disarray, and her clothes are dirty and torn in several places. A scowl the likes of which you have never seen is on her face, and her arms are crossed tightly. She stands on her desk and looks you straight in the eyes.

"You're such a headache, you must be aware of this by now. After you got abducted, we've been attacked around the clock! We've had to take refuge here and apply Warding and mental reformatting more often than I have in my entire career! And all because of some silly plot to get your silly, stupid, worthless biodata."

Chief huffs, waiting for your response. All you offer is a hollow apology before asking her about the plan. You need to know what's to come next. You can't keep doing this forever.

"Unfortunately, you're right. Strangers is much more well funded and staffed than we are. It pains me to say it, but a military organization like that just has the resources we don't. We'll need to employ guerilla warfare."

Chief hits you in the face with a thick stack of papers which, after you remove them from your visage, you see to be a series of documents detailing the known members of Strangers and their common tactics. Just how did she get all this...?

"Don't ask unnecessary questions! Lunatic High will be in charge of this mission. If you wish to volunteer, go see her."

...That's all great, but there's something more important you should be talking about, isn't there. the reason that these Strangers are doing all this in the first place is the AIR project, right? When you spoke to the Chief over the phone, it seemed like she recognized the word. She must have some idea of what is going on, and you're going to get some answers before you do anything else. Chief's proud and bossy demeanour falls, and she climbs off of her desk, taking a seat. She folds her hands and rests her face, muttering to herself as she does so. Eventually, she comes out of her daze and puts a sharp look on her face.

"I'm aware of the general idea, but the details are sketchy even to me. Putting that aside, are you sure you really want to know?"

You wouldn't have asked if you weren't interested. The Chief sighs and opens up her desk, pulling out a heavy box. A series of locks and obvious explosives line the outside of it, along with a strange receptacle resting on the surface. Chief bites down on her thumb and squeezes out a drop of blood into the device, which whirs and clicks, unlocking all the seals in order. Once the box has been opened, Chief removes a single sheet of paper from the lockbox. On it reads...

"Autonomous Infection and Remission. AIR. The United States government was attempting to generate a human being who could command the spread of the Renegade at will. Despite what some claim, all subjects were a complete failure. You are Subject One, the subject who came the closest to success."

There were others? Other subjects like yourself? How many? Where? What are they like?

"There were a total of fifty subjects. However, most of them became Germs and were terminated before they could cause any real damage. As far as surviving members go..." Chief looks at you seriously, "There are three. I won't tell you who they are for the sake of their privacy but, like you, they were all born from Overed parents around seventeen to fifteen years ago. If it makes you feel better, your parents volunteered themselves and you for this effort."

No, no it doesn't. Why would your parents even put you up to be a guinea pig?

"Because if AIR worked, it would mean that you could decide whether or not you were an Overed. Unlike most of us, you would have had a choice about your future. Sadly," Chief makes a flourish with her hand, "The project failed. Though you are quite strong, in the end you are an Overed just like any other. All that research amounted merely to delaying your infection. I must admit, I was somewhat disappointed myself."

Well, what about the others? Did they have any strange results? You want to know if you should be expecting something strange.

"The other subjects are what was truly extraordinary. They were among the first Crossbreeds and Tri-breeds and they were always very strong specimens. Some even think that this little experiment is what caused such mutations among the Renegade. It's all very fascinating but most likely over your head."

>Why was AIR shut down?
>You've had enough of this, you'll go see Lunatic now.
>>
>>32230707
A little late, but my guess for AIR was "Amplified Intelligence and Regeneration" (Cap's failure was clearly the intelligence bit). That way it would have been a hint as to a possible connection with Diablos/Seven (we all have absurd healing and odd mental quirks). Heck, we clearly would have been the best candidate for "most successful subject" if only by virtue of minimal encroachment and general retention of sanity.

Not that Anon, but to be honest I don't think any of us would be too surprised but a surprise ninja sneak attack at this point. I mean, they're ninja. They sneak attack.

nah, it won't be ninjas

It'll be the Russians this time

Waaaaait a second. Is that whats beeen going on with our powers?
>>
>>32231288
no, but it's what we've desperately been trying to do
>>
If AIR can do all these wonderful things for people, why was it shut down? You can't imagine that there would ever be people who wanted to end the project.

"This is where things get uncertain. From what we can tell, the facility was the target of a terrorist attack. We don't know who or why, but it looks like the entire research team was wiped out, along with the majority of their research. Only a few Subjects escaped alive, and you were one of them. With little else to go on, the idea was ultimately abandoned by the U.S. government and the Subjects were put under watch and had mental reconditioning performed. Now then..." Chief narrows her eyes, "If you're done playing dumb, why don't you tell me the rest of the story?"

Playing dumb? You stand up from your seat and slam the desk with your hands. How could she say that? You're the one who has been left stumbling around in the dark because nobody would tell you a damn thing! Chief barks back at you, slapping you on the side of the face with more paperwork.

"Stop playing games! You've never had your memories edited! Why are you pretending like you don't know anything!"

Because you don't! You take the paperwork from Chief and storm out of her office, intent on dealing with these Strangers before any more of this nonsense crops up. Secret projects, experimental children, stupid acronyms...it sounds like something Angel would come up with. You've got to go see Lunatic to really get this party started, but you decide to skim through this document. Hm, looks like they're going to have you work with...

>Lunatic herself.

Rin?

And Angel?

They're actually going on a mission instead of just parading about town in those ridiculous outfits? This you have to see.

--

Well, you were half right. Rin fidgets in place, covered by the layers of white lace and black frills. Her normally unremarkable hair has been grown out since you last saw her, and fitted with a large white bow. Long opera gloves cover her arms and it looks like her left eye has been fitted with a orange color contact lens. There's only one person with fashion sense this bad, and it has to be.

"Ah! Cerberus! Finally, we have a chance to work together!"

Angel bounces up alongside of you and lets out her signature laugh. Rin keeps murmuring and wobbles toward Angel, clearly uncomfortable with been seen by someone she knows. Angel instead just takes the girl and holds her around the shoulders. Angel is probably excited that she's been given some real responsibility for a change.

"Well, Cerberus! The Council of Elders has asked us to fight the mysterious demons from the East, and we shall listen to their plea! Righteous Devil has the details, if you are interested!"

Rin sniffles and steps forward, holding some documents in her hands. Her knees are shaking, and she looks like she'd fall over in a stiff breeze. Is this really the girl who has been posing as the demonic magical girl?

hngggggh. While Angel does have a questionable fashion sense, I'm curious as to how well Captain knows to dress himself. How'd he rate on a 1-10 scale? How good looking are his clothes?

>>
>>32232178
>How good looking are his clothes?
Captain has a few sets of his school's summer and winter uniform. Oh, and a couple spare t-shirts that he was given through promotional advertisements. That's it.
>>
>>32232250
What's he wearing right now
>>

His school uniform.

Dammit people, Rin's never going to overcome this crippling self image problem if we don't at least pretend to treat her a little seriously.

/tg/ always teases insecure girls because they think it's cute when they suffer.
>>
>>32232482
Also girls like you more when you're mean.
>>
>>32232440
Honestly the Captain really only teases people when he can't help himself. Claire on the other hand he really doesn't have anything to tease about. Without her misunderstanding somehow.
>>
>>32232503
This is what social maladapts such as the majority of /tg/ think, yes.
>>
>>32232417
>Captain
>Caring about her self image.
>>
>>32232440
Captain teases Claire a lot through his retorts. She just doesn't mind and sees it as more fuel for her masochism fire.
>>
>>32232510
Pretty much. What most people don't pay attention to is how wealthy the people being mean to those girls are.
>>
>>32232568
Wealth is only one of a variety of qualities which attract women, but yes. Just like how many a man has been in a relationship with a total cunt because she was pretty, so too has many a woman been in a relationship with a total asshole because he was handsome/rich/important/charming/etc.
>>
>>32232566
Yeah, but Claire doesn't count as a person for the purposes of social interaction with da' Captain.
>>
You put a hand to your chin. Now, it's not really your thing and you overall think it looks very cartoonish, but Rin's outfit is really quite cute. Yes, Rin is looking positively adorable today! Like a bunny or some other small rodent.

"Ha?!"

Rin yelps and jumps back. Her face turns red and she drops the papers she's holding. Slowly she starts to inch her way towards Angel. Oh? Were you thinking out loud? Well, no matter. It's not like it's a bad thing to say that Rin looked cute.

"Wha-what? S-sir, please don't..."

Don't what? It's nothing to be ashamed of. Well, that outfit is really pretty shameful, but Rin wears it well so it's not like it's a big deal. Yeah, it's like she's one of those mascot characters for a video game shop or maybe a comic book store. She hiccups and steps back, hiding behind Angel as she does so.

"C-comic book? What do you mean a comic book, s-sir?"

Yeah, something like MagicaRin or whatever. You've seen those kinds of things before. Don't they make poses like...this? You balance on one leg and throw your hands up behind you. You're pretty sure you've seen Rin do a stupid pose like this before. Rin practically glows with embarrassment, were this some crazy cartoon, you'd expect steam to be coming out of her ears. She puts her hands to her face and bolts away, screaming in shame the entire way.

...What? That wasn't anything to get upset about...Angel puts a hand over her mouth and turns aside.

"Cerberus is such a bully..."

You're not!!

Huh, would have expected you to just have Rin pair up with Lunatic or Chief for the mission and us to continue our briefing with Fallen for another post or two. Still, like the other Anon said, worth it.

>handsome/rich/important/charming/etc.

The only true attractive points. Wealth/Power/genetics/ease of bossing around.
>>
>>32232624

How much more flustered can she be? Just how far do we have to go to create a fluster singularity?

How many pairs of underwear has Claire sniffed and stolen for 'personal use', DXR?
>>
>>32232753
All of them. But it's ok, she replaces them so Cap doesn't know yet.
>>
>>32232723

All of them. She returns them when she "finishes".

Also, the archive is up.

One of these days Captain's gonna catch Claire during one of her depraved, perverted practices.

She could be flicking the bean while sniffing our boxers or rubbing his clothes over her nude body, or whatever the heck she does, but I'm looking forward to how far Cap's gonna throw Claire for this.
>>
>>32232967
He'll just sigh and tell her to buy him new ones and burn those
>>
>>32232967
I'm honestly hoping eventually he will just walk in. Look over and just shake his head and walk off somewhere. Just because he is used to so much crazy shit going around him.
>>
>>32232967
With Cap's nose shouldn't he be able to smell every single spot and thing she's played with?
>>
I still hold out hope for a Shining Void route.
>>
>>32233704
This waifu war was over before it began. Claire has already won. She just hasn't claimed her prize yet.
>>
>>32233728
She's still a contender. She has something Claire will never be able to give the Captain. Caffeine for Overed.
>>
>>32233704
Christmas Cake never wins
>>
>>32233728
Harem end or bust, Claire would understand.
>>
>>32233868
There's always Lunatic High.

The sex would probably result in 4-digit property damage figures to the resulting areas.
>>
>>32233938
I have it on good information that Lunatic High is a bashful bottom instead of some sex god.
>>
>>32233956
But double Chimera. Both parties would be able to go full tilt without worrying if the other can't handle it.

Honestly, that bashfulness just makes her more appealing in my eyes.
