The night is silent, or as close as it gets to being quiet in Millennium City anyways, as you tiredly trudge up the stairwell in your apartment building. You only just got home from your job as a bike courier, it certainly wasn't your first choice for a job but it was the only thing you found that had hours that were loose enough that you could do that while still going to school full time. Well aside from fast-food jobs anyways, and you weren't particularly thrilled at the thought of standing behind a grill again...you done that enough in high school.

You are Michael Hogelin, a twenty-two year old college student and, while you aren't yet aware of it, your life is about to completely change overnight. Millennium City, formerly Detroit, is renowned as one of the largest concentrations of meta-humans in the United States...and you're just hours away from joining that group.

Your powers have been developing for years, without your knowledge, slowly changing your body in order to be capable of wielding them without endangering yourself.

What kind of powers do you have?

>Force Manipulation. You're capable of manipulating raw kinetic energy that you can use to create force-fields or hurl bolts of energy, among other attacks, at your enemies. Over time you may find more uses for these powers.
>Electrokinesis. You can generate and control electricity, which you're able to channel throughout your body to amplify your physical attacks, as well as being able to shoot lightning bolts at your enemies. Over time you may find more uses for these powers.
>Cryokinesis. You can absorb the water in the air and use it to create and control ice to direct shards of ice towards your enemies as well as encase them in prisons of ice, as well as being capable of erecting shields and walls of ice to protect yourself. Over time you may find more uses for these powers.

Secondary powers in next post.
>>
Also, choose up to three secondary powers.
>Strength and physical fitness. In addition to your other abilities you also will gain a notable increase in strength and speed, easily surpassing any normal human's limits though you're certainly no Superman.
>Agility and reflexes. You've always been flexible and quick to react, however with this addition you could make an Olympic gymnast green with envy, you'll also be capable of reacting to your surroundings quicker than normally possible.
>Constitution and endurance. You may able to hold your own in a fight, but with this addition you'll be able to take a hell of a beating and still keep going, as well as having an amazing endurance. Of course everybody has a limit.
>Intelligence and creativity. While not technically a power, over the last few years you have become more capable of solving complex problems as well as more technologically gifted, you may even be able to create new devices of your own.
>Willpower. Again, while it isn't necessarily a power, you have an absolutely heroic resolve. You are capable of pushing yourself past physical and psychological pain and resist attacks on your mind...of course everybody has a limit.

As you unlock your door and push your way into the studio apartment that sucks up most of your money each month you're forced to do your best to ignore the angry shouts and cries filtering in through your open window, actually you're pretty sure that you're hearing somebody getting mugged...not exactly an uncommon occurrence in your neighborhood. You let out a quiet sigh and shake your head, wincing as it aggravates the headache that's been plaguing you all day, Millennium city is not a cheap, easy, or safe place to live. Which, of course, begs the question of why you're even here in the first place, if there's so many problems with it.

Why are you living in MC?
>This is where you grew up, or at the very least it's the last place your parents moved when you were in high school, and you haven't really had a good reason to move away, other than the crime of course.
>You came here for college, there were several other options but with Millennium City being the 'City of the Future' you jumped at the chance to come to school here.
>You were aware of the city's crime-rate, and have high hopes of eventually helping to make a positive difference in this city, in some way.
>Honestly you were mostly using college as an excuse to get away from your life. You don't exactly get along with most of your family, though you and your sister always had a decent relationship.

A tired sigh escapes your lips as you drop your bag by the table, glancing briefly at the mess of textbooks, a couple of half-completed devices that you're honestly not sure what you plan to do with, and a pair of goggles that you were trying to add a small HUD to last week for shits and giggles. You even mostly succeeded, though after getting the tech attached to it you weren't particularly sure what to do with them.

You shake your head and ignore the mess, you'll probably try to clean up a bit later but right now you're tired as hell. It only takes you a minute to pull the bed out of the futon and toss a couple pillows and your blanket onto it before you collapse back onto it and quickly pass out.

A few hours pass quietly as you lay in your apartment, blissfully ignorant of the rest of the world, before you're rudely woken from your sleep by the shrill ringing the building's fire alarm. You jerk awake roughly, annoyance welling up inside you at what you're almost sure is just another idiot burning food in the middle of the night. That's what you initially believe at least as you grudgingly tug your shoes back on and make your way towards your door to see what the racket's about, just as you reach the kitchen, however, a loud explosion rings out from across your hall, blowing your door open and sending you flying back onto the floor as a suffocating wave of heat invades your apartment.

You quickly scramble up to your feet, though you almost regret it as you do seeing as your apartment is quickly filling with smoke, and you're pretty sure you only have a minute or two until the flames across the hallway make their way to you. Your heart pounds heavily as you suddenly become aware of the sounds of people screaming and police and firetruck sirens ringing out through the night.

I apologize for how long it took. I got interrupted before I could actually start writing. Also for some reason I seem to be having a some connection issues. Hopefully no big deal.

As you crouch down on the floor, coughing violently, your watering eyes fall on the pair of aviator goggles on the table. You suppose they could be useful to keep the smoke out of your eyes, though obviously they wouldn't do anything to help you avoid breathing it in, a sudden thought occurs to you that you have a scarf back in the living room that you could use for that, though for it to be useful at all you would probably have to waste time dampening it after you try to find it.

Almost as soon as the thoughts cross your mind you ignore them, realizing that with the fire escape just outside your window it's a stupid waste of time to try and put something like that together. You've just started hurrying over to the window when you manage to make out the sound of terrified crying coming through the small air-vent that connects your apartment to the next one. A sinking feeling nearly overwhelms you as you realize that your neighbor's son, Matt, must still be in her apartment, it took you a few months to notice it, but it seems that she leaves him home alone at night while she's at work.

A quick glance out your door reveals that the flames are rapidly getting closer, you don't have a lot of time to waste, and if you go to help the kid you doubt you'll be able to get back into your own apartment again, plus you'll be exposing yourself to the smoke and heat again. What are you going to do?
>Grab the goggles and find and dampen your scarf before hurrying over to your neighbor's apartment. There's no way you're leaving a kid behind!
>Grab the goggles, but don't bother with the scarf, get over to your neighbor's apartment!
>Don't bother with either the goggles or the scarf, you don't have the time for that crap, and for all you know Matt could be worse off!

There's a moment where you consider just leaving him in favor of getting your own ass out of the fire, but it quickly passes as you realize that not only would you be forced to look Jessica directly in the face and tell her that you didn't know what happened to her son, but also that when you were arguing the merits for why you wanted to come to Millennium City to your family, that one of your biggest points was that you wanted to help people, and this was the place to do it. While you said a lot of things to get them off your ass about the decision, that sure as hell wasn't one of them.

With that thought in mind you immediately turn and start moving towards your door, snatching the translucent purple and black goggles off the table as you go. By the time you're out of the apartment the goggles are pressed tightly against your eyes and, while you're still forced to move low to the ground, you've managed to at least keep the smoke from stinging your eyes.

It only takes you a few seconds to reach the next apartment, though unfortunately you find the door locked. You raise up your hand in a fist and pound on the door rapidly and are about to call out to Matt when you hear his terrified voice filtering through the door. "W-who's there?!"

You glance quickly at the rapidly advancing flames across the hall as you respond, "It's Mike, Matt! I need you to unlock the door now! We've got to get out of here!"

"I-I can't! I can't move, I'm scared!"

You fight back an exasperated sigh at the reply, though there's a small part of you that's afraid that he means that he can't move literally. You could try and get him to open the door again, though you're not sure how long that would take and you obviously don't have much time...of course you could just kick in the door.

You start to open your mouth to try and convince him to help you out, before realizing that it would be a complete waste of time. He's a kid in the middle of a fire without anybody he actually knows around. Of course he's terrified, with that in mind you take a half-step back, "I'm coming in, Matt, if you're behind the door then you need to move now!" You shout out, waiting a few seconds without a reply, before surging forward and kicking your foot up to meet the door.

On a normal day you'd marvel at how easily the wood gives as the door jamb near the knob splinters and you rush into the apartment, briefly relieved at the lessened amount of smoke in the air, though you're sure it won't last. As your eyes travel through the open areas of the home you quickly see Matt's dirty-blond head poking out from the bathroom. "M-Mike?"

You nod quickly to him, "Yeah it's me, Matt. Now come on we don't have a lot of time." You reply to him urgently, gently grabbing his shoulder as he rushes towards you. The two of you hurry towards the living room window, which you kick out when it resists your attempts to open it.

A few moments later Matt is outside and has already started climbing down the ladder, you're about to join him when a low groaning sound followed by several snaps makes your blood run cold. You try and pull yourself through the window, but before you manage to make it all the way out the floor collapses out from under you.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
Before you even really know what's happened you find yourself tumbling backwards through the brand new hole in the floor and land roughly on the floor of the apartment below you. Or more accurately you land inside the floor of the apartment below you, though the distinction is rather pointless in your opinion, as you groan and try to force yourself to your feet. You're half-way there when another explosion goes off in the building. Unfortunately rather than being on the other side of the hallway from you this one's significantly closer and it sends you flying.

You shout out as you slam into one of the walls and slump back to the floor, before you can even try to force yourself up again pain sears through your entire being, you're barely able to keep your eyes open as electricity crackles all across your body, arcing out in several different directions and scorching the few surfaces of the room you're in that hadn't already been damaged by smoke and fire. The convulsions continue for several moments as you cry out desperately, before mercifully stopping. Unfortunately, even as you push yourself up again, you realize that the electricity surging through you has refused to do the same.

With your mind rushing to try and comprehend what's going on, on top of being trapped in a burning building, you almost fail to notice that rather than the burning agony that it started out as you're only feeling a distinct tingling sensation as the energy arcs across you. The panic gripping you fades a little, though it's far from gone as you try to understand what's going on.
(2/3)
>>
In a brief moment of clarity you realize that if the electricity is only coming from you then you might be able to control it, though you're really not sure that would work and you don't know if you even want to try it. Of course you are stuck in a burning building that's obviously very unstable and could come down around you at any moment, and if the fire doesn't get you then you're sure that the smoke will before too long.

It's clear that you don't have much time to waste here, so what are you going to do?
>Try not to panic, take the time to try and figure out what the hell is going on with the electricity.
>Now's not the time to be trying to figure this crap out, you need to get the hell out of here!
>Panic. You're trapped in a burning building with no obvious escape and you've got lightning shooting out of your hands...if there was ever a better time do lose your cool, you probably won't find it in your lifetime.

As you feel yet another explosion rock the building and hear quite a bit more creaking all around you, you decide that rather than standing around trying to figure out what the hell is going in you should be getting out of the building. With the ceiling in front of the window you were in front of earlier collapsed you rush towards the kitchen.

Immediately as you approach the window the electricity surging from your form shatters the glass, sending shards spraying both outside and back towards you, several of them nicking your arms and face. You jump back at first, though quickly move back towards the window and look out. For a moment your heart soars at the sight of freedom, but as you get closer and look out you realize that the landing for the fire escape outside this window has been reduced to scrap, apparently by another one above you collapsing down upon it.

Still, with smoke quickly trying to smother you, consuming the building ravenously, and lightning crackling across your time form you don't have many choices at the moment. As you look out the window again you realize that there's a building across the alley that could easily break your fall, rather than sending yourself plummeting all the way to the ground. You should easily survive a fall like that, though you're sure it would hurt like hell. Still, the thought of jumping from the window makes you somewhat uneasy, and you briefly wonder if you could try to navigate your way down to the first floor and get out that way?

What do you want to do?

Your heart pounds nervously as you eye the roof of the building across the alley, as well as the distance to the unforgiving concrete of the ground. "Do you really want to do this, Michael?" You ask yourself out loud, though moments later you receive your answer as you hear the ceiling above you groaning under the stress of the building collapsing in on itself.

Deciding that it's best to get it over with before you can change your mind you rush forward and hurl yourself out the window, electricity and smoke trailing behind you as you do so. As you do so, just seconds before you land on the roof across the alley another explosion roars out of the building, sending fire and debris from the falling ceiling shooting out the window after you.

A very brief moment of relief washes over you...right up until you hit the roof of the building that no doubt saved your life. A strangled half-shout half-gasp escapes your mouth as the impact forcefully dislodges your shoulder and knocks the wind from your lungs. You lie on the roof, writing in pain and gasping desperately for breath for several minutes before a soft impact sounds out across the roof.

While you manage to miss their arrival, it's impossible to ignore your guest as they cautiously advance towards you, "Hey! Can you hear me? Are you alright?"

Your eyes snap open at the feminine voice and, despite your burning lungs and the pain of your dislocated shoulder you manage to roll to your uninjured side and push yourself up, a slightly dismayed look crossing your face as you realize that the buzzing you're hearing isn't just ringing in your ears but is, in fact, STILL the electricity plaguing you. Despite that you look up at your 'guest', surprised to see an asian woman dressed in a dark red and black skirt, corset, and jacket combo, as well as a pair of thigh-high boots, thick gloves, and a pair of orange goggles that you're pretty sure are glowing slightly...though you suppose that could be reflection from the inferno behind you.

You blink several times at her appearance, her question lost to you for a few moments, before you remember that she'd even said something to you in the first place. "Ah-" A rough cough interrupts you as you start to reply, "Well...depending on what you mean by alright..." You manage to get out after a few moments, before groaning as you realize how gravely your voice is at the moment.

The woman cracks a small smile at your answer, though it's clear that she's concerned at your state, not that you can blame her...you're not particularly at ease about it either. "Well, at least you've got a sense of humor." She replies shortly, before starting to take another step towards you, only to stop as you scramble backwards. "What's wrong? Hey listen, buddy, why don't you just kill the light show and then we'll talk a bit, m'kay? You look like you need some medical attention and, while I'm not a doctor, I might be able to help." She pauses for a few moments before shaking her head in confusion, "I don't recognize you though, I know most of the heroes running around this area of MC, you from West Side or something?"

A confused look crosses your face, though as she moves towards you again you scramble backwards again, only to feel your back come into contact with the raised edge of the roof. It's obvious that she doesn't know you can't whatever the hell is going on here, and you're not thrilled at the idea of frying her if she gets too close to you. On the other hand she does seem to know what she's doing, though you're not so sure why should would think you're a hero unless, oh...right. Maybe you should set her straight?

What do you want to do?
>Warn her to keep back. You don't know what's happening to you, you'll be damned if you hurt anybody else with this!

Before you can really even figure out a way to respond to her the hero takes another couple steps towards you, sending you shrinking back against the wall, "STOP DAMN IT!" You shout desperately at her, doing your best to get as far away from her as you can, "I can't stop this! I-I don't know what's going on, and I don't want to hurt you!"

The woman takes a step back at your first outburst, clearly bewildered by your reaction to her, before a look of slowly dawning comprehension crosses her face, "You...went meta in the fire?" She asks, somewhat disbelievingly, before slowly taking another step back. "Okay...alright, I'm getting back-"

You feel a brief moment of relief as she seems to heed your warning, only to feel a dawning horror at the conclusion she comes to, your eyes widening behind the soot-covered goggles. "Meta? N-no, no, I'm not...that's not what's happening it's just some kind of accident, it'll wear off!" You shoot back, desperately wanting to believe your own words, the thought of the electricity coursing across your body plaguing you for the rest of your life terrifying you.

She quickly shakes her head, raising her arms up in a gesture that's clearly meant to be calming, "Hey, hey, calm down, hun! I promise it's going to be okay...you just need to calm down." She replies, clearly doing her best to keep her voice calm.

You breathe out shallowly, biting your lip in an effort to force yourself to keep yourself under control. "W-what do you want me to do?"

The hero takes a deep breath of her own, slowly kneeling down closer to your level, "Well, first off why don't you tell me your name?" She asks gently, coming as close to making eye-contact as the two of you are going to get as she does so.

Several awkwardly silent seconds pass between the two of you as you internally struggle on whether or not you really want to tell her your name. Before you can come to a decision, however the woman seems to pick up on your reluctance. "Well, if it bothers you that much then how about I go first? My name is Captain Argonza, and I'm one of Primus' local agents. It's how I get to know most of the heroes around here." She says easily, before motioning to you, "Your turn, hun."

While you're still far from okay with your situation you feel at least somewhat calmer, between her introducing herself and having at least a few minutes without something blowing up in your face. Despite that, as you open your mouth with the intention of answering her honestly you find yourself stumbling over a clumsily lie, "I'm...er...Julio..uh, Julio Gonzales Montoya." You mutter, a somewhat sick feeling dropping into your stomach at the obviously fake name.

Argonza lets out a small sigh and raises a disbelieving eyebrow as she casts a glance at your soot-covered dirty-blond hair and only tanned skin, "That's seriously the best you could come up with?" She deadpans, seeming almost disappointed at your ridiculously poor lie.

You shrug, having the decency to be at least a little embarrassed with yourself, "I guess..." You manage to get out, blowing out a heavy breath, "Alright, look, is there really a point to this? How's this supposed to help...this?" You ask, a small amount of irritation surfacing.

The hero directs a somewhat understanding smile at you, despite your outburst, "Hey, it's okay. I understand...Julio, I've been in your situation before. Well...kind of, anyways, my powers flared up in the middle of a crosswalk, the car that hit me was absolutely totaled and it sent the driver to the hospital. I get being afraid of your powers, but like I said before, you just need to keep calm. I mean, you may not have noticed it but your little light show isn't nearly as bad as it was before."

You blink in surprise, looking down at yourself to see that she's telling the truth. Rather than having electricity arcing wildly off of you, the energy crackling across your body has dulled to a low buzz flashing erratically over your skin and clothes, even illuminating your veins whenever it travels over, or maybe even through, them. "That...well that's better, I guess." You reply, your voice taking on a somewhat more awed tone, before you slowly come back down to Earth, "But...how do I get rid of it? I mean, it's great that I'm not about to fry you, but how do I make it STOP?"

Argonza slowly scoots a little closer to you, still keeping her distance, particularly as the electricity flares up again for a moment when you look up at her, before speaking up again, "Well...everybody's powers are at least a little different, but from what I've seen your powers seem to react pretty heavily to your emotions, at least this outburst is anyways. Like I said I'm not a doctor, and honestly you'd probably be better if Doctor Silverback or one of the Powerhouse trainers were here to talk you through it, but I think your best option is to take some deep breaths and just try to relax. Maybe you'll be able to feel some kind of control if you concentrate on it? I know that a lot of the people I know who have manipulation powers talk about being able to feel whatever element they control inside of them. Try to look for that feeling."

You look back up at her as she tries to talk you through the process. As she finishes you breathe out a somewhat shaky breath and nod slowly before leaning back against the edge of the roof and taking several deep breaths. As you do so you see her scoot over to imitate your pose a few feet to your left, though she does make a point of accounting for her skirt as she does so. "So...you were in that building when it went up, right?" She asks carefully, though you're not entirely sure why.

"Well...yeah," You reply absently, slowly drifting further and further away from the concentration as the adrenaline that's been fueling you up until now starts fading away, now that you're not in constant fear of frying yourself or Argonza.

"...Do you know how it caught fire?" She asks gently, throwing you off for a second before you realize exactly what she's getting at.

"I didn't do it, if that's what you're asking..." You shoot back, wincing a little as your temper causes the lightning to flare back up for a moment, before dying back down again as you shake your head, "The fire alarms woke me up...'this' didn't start until I fell through the floor after getting Matt out of his apartment."

The hero raises an eyebrow at your explanation, "Matt? Do you have a room mate or something?"

"No...he's the neighbor's kid, she's usually at work during the night." You mutter distractedly before trailing off completely as you suddenly feel a strange, tingling, sensation buzzing just beneath your skin, all across your body. It's similar to the feeling you've had from the electricity since it stopped hurting, but somehow stronger.

Turning your complete concentration to the feeling you realize that this almost has to be what Argonza was talking about. The more attention you focus on it the more you realize that you're right, though you're not entirely sure what you should do now that you've apparently got some level of control over your 'powers'.
[options coming up next.]
>>
Obviously you want to get rid of the electricity dancing across your body, but you don't know how you should go about doing it. You suppose you could just try to draw the energy into you, or maybe force it out of you, though doing that you might end up doing something you don't mean to. Of course if you're going to try and get rid of the electricity then it might be better to try and direct it somehow, so that you don't end up accidentally hurting yourself or Argonza...at least it doesn't look like there's anything you can break up here.
>Draw the energy into you. You're not going to risk anybody getting hurt, you don't really understand this yet, and it's probably the safest option.
>Force the energy away from you. It doesn't matter what happens, as long as you don't have to deal with it anymore, at least for the moment anyways.
>Try to direct the lighting away from the roof, preferably in a direction that won't end up hurting somebody.

Taking another deep breath you decide that just because you've figured out how to kind of control this doesn't mean you actually know how these powers work. With that thought in mind you set your mind to trying to pull the energy coursing across your body back into you. You're pretty sure you hear the heroine still talking to you, though you block her out until finally you manage to succeed.

The electricity dancing over your skin lets out a few dying crackles as the energy flows back into your body, drawing a surprised gasp from you as it does so. "Hey! There you go, how are you feeling now?"

You blink in a small amount of surprise at the woman's question, feeling your face flush somewhat as you force your attention away from the pleasant tingling sensation that's spread across your body as you drew in the electricity. "I'm, uh...I'm good now." You reply quickly, glancing away from her for a moment, before easily shaking your embarrassment away, "Thank you...I honestly don't know what would have happened if you hadn't came along."

Argonza shrugs, offering you a smile as she does so, "I'm sure you would have figured it out eventually, most of us do, but it's always nice to have a helping hand. I'm just glad I got to you before the police..." She says, trailing off slightly at that, seeming a little uncomfortable at what she was about to say.

She doesn't seem to know whether or not she wants to continue with her thought, and it's looking a lot like she's about to change the subject. You wonder whether or not you should press her to continue with what she was saying, or if you should just let it drop.
>Ask her what she meant by that.
>Let her change the subject...she's probably just talking about what would have happened if the police got too close to you.

I get the impression we would already know what the police would do. They probably come equipped for a wide range of dangerous meta human shenanigans.
>>
While her reluctance to talk about the police bothers you just a little, you decide to let it drop in favor of looking back across the alley, noting that while the building is still burning it seems to be under control now. Your gaze travels down to the street for a few moments, noticing that more than just a few sets of eyes, civilian and police officer alike, are staring up at the two of you.

You let out a slightly tired sigh as you run a soot-covered hand over your equally filthy face, noting with more than a little surprise that the cuts you suffered from the shards of glass the lightning sent flying seem to be completely gone. As curious as you are about how that could have happened you decide that you're feeling more tired than interested at the moment. You're about to turn and thank Argonza again, before saying goodbye, but before you can even get the words out of your mouth she interrupts you, her expression decidedly less than thrilled.

"You're planning on going down there." She says, rather than asks.

"Well, yeah..." You reply slowly, raising an eyebrow at her sudden change of attitude, "Is there any reason why I shouldn't?"

The heroine glances down at the roof for a few moments before letting out a reluctant sigh, "That...depends." She says quietly, "Are you planning on registering?"

You straighten up at the question, "Woah, woah, woah, registering? What the hell do you mean by that?" You ask tensely, before glancing back over the edge of the roof again, realizing that rather than just the few officers you thought were looking at you, it's closer to two thirds of the police that are down there. No doubt they saw the demonstration of your powers, and you're almost certain that it's obvious that you're not exactly experienced with them.

Argonza takes a few slow steps towards the edge so that she's standing next to you and looks down at them with you, "You didn't know about it then...guess I shouldn't be surprised." She mutters, sounding more than just a little annoyed though it's clear that her frustration isn't directed at you, "The bill was slipped through a couple years back, remember how there was a surge of meta-human criminal activity in 2012?" She asks, waiting for you to nod before continuing, "Well, apparently that was all that they needed to get it passed, they managed to keep it under the radar though, since the media was more concerned with Grond's rampage in the New Mexico at the time."

You nod again, remembering how that was all anybody seemed to talk about for months, "Anyways, the point is that they managed to get congress to approve the registering of all meta-humans, mostly because they went for anybody with powers instead of just the natural mutants like they'd been trying to get passed for so long. Technically it's illegal for you not to register yourself now."

There's a tense moment of silence as she pauses, and the two of you look at each other, "So...what does that mean exactly? Like do I have to put a sign up or something?" You ask, slightly bitterly, feeling a small spark of electricity flare to life across your hands before dying out equally as fast.

She shakes her head quickly, "No, nothing like that. To be fair it's more of a way to control and monitor the criminals and while you're in MC you're usually safe enough if you don't do it since there's so many of us. I'm sure as hell not going to force it on you...but if you go down there then they WILL. They're legally bound to do so."

"Alright but...wouldn't that apply to you too, what with Primus and all..."

A small chuckle escapes her as she shakes her head, "Nope...I'm expected to, but I don't have to. Primus isn't a law enforcement agency, it's military. I'm allowed to take criminals into custody, but I'm not necessarily obligated to unless I'm on mission. Right now I'm on my personal time...gotta love loopholes like that."

You nod, trying to smile but not really managing it, "Okay...so what are my options then?"

Argonza lets out another sigh, "Well, really you don't have many choices here, hun. Like I said, you go down there, hell even if you stay up here, they'll eventually take you in to get registered, unless you resist them...in which case I WOULD intervene." She replies seriously, "Or you can come with me. I can get you out of here, to someplace that you can get yourself cleaned up and then think about it some more. Honestly there's some pro's to being registered, but if you do it then you're in the system...and while they like to pretend nobody's ever broken in to their computers, the truth is that they don't really have that great of a track record. Especially when it comes to 'super villains'" She finishes, apparently unable to resist air-quoting the last bit.
(Options in next post.)
>>
"Of course if you come with me it's not like you can't register later if you decide you want to...like I said, it just gives you some time to think on it."

You look down at the officers in thought, resting your hands on the ledge as you do so, trying to decide what you want to do.
>Ask her for more information on registering. She says that there's some pro's to it, but obviously she's not particularly happy with the arrangement either.
>Just go down and register. From the way she's talking it could be a mistake not to...and if you really want to get into law-enforcement then it might be best to you know, not break the law...
>Try to get away yourself. You've had enough help from her, and while you appreciate the offer, you're going to do this your own way or no way at all.

Your gaze travels from the streets below you up to the smoldering building that contained everything that you could call your own in the world, aside from the goggles over your eyes and your gloriously empty bank account. Aside from going to school and work there really wasn't much to your life anyways.

With that cheerful thought in mind you turn your attention back to Argonza and nod, somewhat ashamedly, "I'd...appreciate the help, if you were serious about it." You mutter quietly, not quite able to make eye-contact as you say it. While you'd be the first to admit that you didn't have much, you'd earned everything that you did have.

The crimson-clad hero smiles back to you in understanding, "Of course I was serious, Julio." She replies, with as much good humor as she can manage, "We all need help sometimes, besides I'm pretty sure you earned it, what with saving that Matt kid and all, even without super powers."

For a single moment you start to glance away, making it quite apparent that you're not particularly great at taking praise, "Look, we both know that my name isn't-, before you can finish your sentence though your embarrassment is overridden as your mind flashes to your neighbor's son. "Matt! Crap, I completely forgot about him!" You shout out, whirling on your heel and looking back down at the street, desperately trying to catch some kind of glimpse of him in the darkness, though you fail to accomplish even that.

Turning to Argonza, who's now looking at you with a small amount of concern you grimace slightly, "I hate to ask for anything else, Captain, but do you think you could go down there and try to find him for me? I, uh...I don't need you to bring him up here or anything, or to tell him what's going on, but I'd just like to know that he's safe." You spit out rapidly, "He's about ten years old, has blond hair, and uh...I think he was wearing a white shirt? I don't know for sure..."
(1/2)
>>
"Hey, calm down, hun. I can go down and take a look." She replies easily offering you a somewhat amused smile, though it does falter slightly as she lifts up off the roof. "Uh...it's not going to take the police long to realize what we've got planned once I get down there. You should probably be ready to make a quick exit once I've made sure he's okay. I won't guarantee that they aren't going to try and come up here before I get back."

You nod with understanding, "Alright...guess I don't really have any reason to stick around after this anyways." You say, to which she nods in reply before taking off towards the street. You stare down at the heroine intently as she touches down on the asphalt next to an officer that she obviously knows.

There's no way that you can make out what they're saying from your distance, but it's clear that neither of them are particularly happy with the other, though the officer does eventually reach down to his radio and key it. The two of them continue talking after that for several minutes, during which you notice that the heroine was apparently right seeing as how a large team of officers has already started to make their way towards the building you're standing on before Matt appears out of the crowd, clutching the hand of another police officer.

It's clear that despite the trauma your neighbor's son has suffered tonight, he's still enraptured by the chance to actually meet one of Millennium City's many super heroes. Argonza takes just a minute or two to talk to him, letting him pull her into a hug, before finally breaking away and blasting off from the ground again, rocketing towards you and landing roughly on the roof. Before you can even open your mouth to ask she's already answering you.
(2/3 I suppose.)

"He's pretty shaken up, but he's doing alright. His mom's on her way right now...funnily enough he's been asking non-stop about some 'Mike' guy that lived next door to him and got him out of the building. Seems like nobody's been able to find him yet...I'm sure he's okay though." She says, shooting you a knowing grin.

An embarrassed chuckle slips from you as you rub the back of your neck uncomfortably, "Yeah....uh, thanks...I really appreciate it." You reply, managing to give her a relieved smile.

The heroine shrugs, "No problem, Julio." She says, before looking pointedly at the door leading to the stairwell in the building, "It's time to go now though."

"Yeah...probably a good idea." You agree, before hesitating as you look at her awkwardly, "Um...how exactly am I..."

While you can't see it, her body language is practically screaming that she's rolling her eyes at you as she steps forwards and picks you up effortlessly in a bridal position. "You can wrap your arms around my neck, if you want...don't squeeze too hard. And don't let your hands go anywhere else..." She tells you simply, as if she's made the speech a hundred times, which she may very well have now that you think about it.

You consider protesting for a few seconds before deciding against it as she takes off, just as the door to the roof bursts open and the team of police officers you saw earlier rush out. Discarding what little bit of resistance you have left you loop your arms around her neck like she suggested, intellectually you know that she almost certainly isn't going to drop you, considering how easily she lifted you up, but on a more instinctive level you're still afraid that you could have made it out of the fire, managed to get control of your powers, and evade the police, just to end up as a pancaked mess on the sidewalk. It just wouldn't be fair.

Eventually she does start to slow down, though you hardly notice as you've long ago drifted into thought about what your future might look like now. It's clear that no matter what you do your life is going to be at least somewhat more chaotic in the near future, if not further into it.

You've got no idea what, if anything, you're going to do with your new found powers, or the fact that apparently you're a mutant...on the one hand you had planned to come to Millennium City to help people and you're not really sure if there's any better way to do it than using your powers...on the other hand though you'd always planned on being a detective, not some kind of super hero, not to mention your life going up in flames just hours ago.

As you look out over the bay while the first hints of dawn peek up above the water, not quite sure where your 'rescuer' is taking you, nor sure if you really care at the moment, you shake the invading thoughts from your head. You're tired, sore, and filthy...you're going to a, most likely, safe place and you'll have plenty of time to think about your future once you get there. For now, you're just going to try and relax and take deep breaths...and try not to look down again.

Interesting start OP, looking forward to seeing more.

I'll stick around for Q&A for a little while, if anybody's interested. Also, for the record I liked the voice recordings. Even if I can't help but laugh at your 'Captain Argonza voice'.

Got a twitter? Is there going to be a next time? When? You're slow, but your write a lot. It like that. Are you planning on editing these together into one block? do you want someone to do that for you? do you like icecream?

Are you going to archive this?
>>
>>32235100
I wasn't planning on archiving, but I'd be willing to do a non-content edit to trim out the questions and peanutgallery, even if some of my rolls were epic.

I just got done archiving it, yes, though I didn't really have any plans to put them into one block.
Anybody who wants to is more than welcome to though.

There will almost certainly be a next time, if people want it. Might be tomorrow/Tuesday, but by Wednesday for sure.

I do have a twitter, planning to start posting it up on the first post from here on out, but here it is for now.

I am sorry that I write slow, though I'll try to increase my speed without sacrificing quality. Unfortunately I don't seem to have too much success with speed writing.

I absolutely love ice cream.

Not complain. :) Thank you again.
Don't rush on my account, rest your mind if you need it. this was a 12 hour trip.

Alrighty. I appreciate it, I'm probably going to head to bed as well. Don't have to work tomorrow but still best not to be dragging all day.
