Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, your cloak drew you a picture, you fought a giant construct, and you finally reached the Rhynian facility.

You take a closer look at the door. You note that it seems to be giving off heat, as if there were a fire just on the other side. Not a lot of heat, but enough to make it uncomfortable to touch. It's also covered in all manner of strange symbols, few with any explanation. Knowledge of their meaning seems to come to you unbidden, though you're unsure from where. Most of them are warning you of danger, that something on the other side of this door spells certain death. One is simply an indicator that this is a facility under the operation of the Rhynian Government, and that trespassing is punishable by death.

The panel connected to the door is also dead, even channeling vys into it gets no results. You're at something of an impasse, since you doubt even Chryssa could wrench this door open. Fulvia steps forward. “If you will allow me, I may be able to open the door.” The generator on her back begins to hum, energy arcing across its surface as she gathers vys in her hands. You're a little wary of just tearing the door open, since there seems to be something hazardous on the other end, but you'll have to risk it eventually to kill that 'Ghoul'.

>Allow her to tear the door open.

You wave Fulvia down, and the hum of her generator quiets. “No, we should at least look around to see if we can get in without tearing the door open. I'd like to at least try to maintain the element of surprise.” She nods her head, and you begin to lead your party through the halls in search of an alternative entrance. While you started off in the nice, symmetrical hallways that branch out from the stairwell, you quickly find yourself picking through rough-hewn mineshafts. The walls are supported only by wooden beams driven into the walls and ceiling, and the floor is covered by rusted iron grilles.

As you further explore this level, you find that every hundred feet or so metal wall is exposed, likely marking a place where the mineshaft intersects with the facility. Unfortunately you're not having much luck finding an alternative entrance. Plus, you think you've been noticing a lot of cobwebs and spiders throughout this tunnel. You're not sure if giant spiders exist, but you're not sure if you want to fight them.

>Have Profectus blast you an entrance through one of the intersections.

>>
>>32143219
Yep, better to just make our own.
>>
>>32143219
All you need to make golems is the animate effect. To make them last any length of time without constant upkeep you need the Permanency metamagic.
>>
>>32143208
No i believe we can make and control golems, but she would have better control with them at the moment.
>>
>>32143251
Would the core make the upkeep of vys cost more?
>>
>>32143274
The core is an artifact that will eliminate the need for upkeep of any sort, and has additional functionality to boot.
>>
>>32143251
How would that work anyway? Will our vys pool be lowered with each golem or can we make as much as we want to?
>>
>>32143208
If its an affect, and golems are somewhat common to make, then i think we actually can control them, but i don't know if we would have to baby sit them or have to learn another effect/metamagic to give them some intellect(good thing soma has proven we can control 24 golems).
>>
>>32143290
Will, that makes the golem hunting idea sound better, and better.
>>32143305
*then that makes me
>>
>>32143292
The costs of creating a golem are as-follows.
>1-5 vys to craft the golem's body, depending on size and complexity.
>1-5 vys to animate the golem, depending on size.
>2-10 vys per round the golem is active.
>>
>>32143340
What about the Permanency effect?
Would it remove the upkeep completely?
>>
>>32143340
so the first 2 are one time cost, but what constitutes as a round for the last one?
And can we just make the golem and store it in out cloak?
>>
>>32143364
Yes, the permanency effect essentially makes it self-sufficient. It allows it to gather vys from its surroundings like most living beings do. It would probably cost the upkeep of the golem as a one-time fee. So if you make a massive stone and metal golem, casting permanency on it would cost 10 vys.

>>32143378
The first 2 are one time cost, and the per round cost is the sum of the first two. In combat I'll just tell you when a round begins or ends, but out of combat I'll just have it drain your vys as it seems appropriate. Probably several times per post though.
>>
>>32143440
So we could essentially make a golem army, huh. We really need to find that effect.

>Make thousands of golems

>>

>>
>>32143569

You turn around, setting off towards the door with your party in tow. You've no desire to fight giant spiders and it seems like whenever Profectus uses that arm of his it usually ends in disaster. You need to start nagging him to meditate more, either that or take a more hands-on approach to his magical education. Anyway it's probably best to just go with what you know will more or less work and probably won't result in a tunnel collapse or some other catastrophe.

As you approach the door you motion for your party to stop. You're probably twenty feet away from the door proper, but that should be enough to be safe if anything comes spilling out. While Fulvia's generator begins to hum and spark, you withdraw your nature staff from your cloak and point it in the general direction of the door. Channeling vys into it, the area in front of the dragon carving at the staff's head is bathed in green light.

You're not sure if the stark lack of anything alive inside the facility is a comfort or a concern. Even in the Rhynian Facility north of Licae, there was moss and mold and other such things growing in the crevices and cracks. From what you can see this facility is completely devoid of any and all life. Of course, that doesn't rule out the possibility of constructs roaming the halls.

You stuff the staff back into your cloak and withdraw your spear instead. Once Fulvia has gathered her vys, she discharges the spell and the door is forcefully ripped open, the walls around it cracking and dust drifts down from the ceiling. Immediately the hallway is inundated with heat and your armor begins to seal itself off just like it did when you got close to the Rhynian Generator, or when you dove into the water. You feel it begin to drain your vys reserves, slowly, but at least it protects you from the heat.

Chryssa's suit has done the same thing, though her Death Mask is the only thing protecting her face her Technician's Armor hums softly with energy, it's practically glowing in fact. Profectus's Optio Armor seems to have mimicked your Centurion Armor, sealing itself off to protect him. Fulvia is of course unaffected, you're fairly certain she can't feel heat or pain.

Only Captain Darzi is left to suffer the heat. She looks a tad uncomfortable, but not just miserable. Though you note her face is beginning to redden. It almost looks like sunburn, though it's almost unheard of for a Samjan to get sunburnt. One would need to lay out in the sun for most of the day. While she might be fine to suffer through this level of heat, it probably wouldn't be wise to let her get any closer than this.

“Alright, Captain-” Your voice comes out muffled and indistinct. You doubt she can properly hear you through the thick mask obscuring your mouth and nose. Instead you simply shoo her away from the door. You keep walking until your armor shuts itself off, the mask receding and the visor that had descended to cover your eyes sliding back into your helmet. You cast a simple healing spell to sooth Darzi's burns, and she nods her head in thanks before asking. “Would you like me to wait here?”

You shake your head, holding up a hand and indicating she should wait a moment. “No no, I think I might have something that will solve the issue. Just wait a moment.” You say this with your hand shoved into your cloak, while you're struggling to pull out the weighty armor rack the first set is hung on. You reach in with your other hand and begin to pull in earnest, and it seems like shortly after that Ricky gets the message and pushes it the rest of the way out of your cloak. The armor hits the ground with an echoing clang, but fortunately appears undamaged.

You recognize the armor as being made of the same material as your compact sword. It's an entire suit of armor crafted from Elaudian Steel. Why this was in a Rhynian facility controlled by bandits, you're not sure. The craftsmanship is superb, the entire armor set appearing to be made of one solid piece of metal with only thin cracks indicating where the joints are. You're not actually sure how one would go about putting this armor on, considering it's all one solid piece. It also has three eye holes arranged in a slanted line on the helmet, you're not sure what the deal with that is. It would almost certainly protect against the heat.

You reach into your cloak once more, this time Ricky merely pushes the armor out of your cloak and rather than a loud clang, this set merely thuds weightily into the ground. Your recognize the set immediately from what you've seen illustrated in books and upon the walls of ruins. It's ancient Hiacian armor, crafted from the carapace of the massive Palaka Worms that roam the Deep Desert. It was said to have mystic qualities, enhancing the effects of any spell cast by the wearer and just as protective as steel. Unfortunately the secret to shaping carapace was lost after the collapse of Hiacia.

It's fairly clear that this armor was crafted for looks as much as it was for protection. Runes are carved onto every section of the armor, praising the gods and asking for their guidance. The mask is crafted to resemble the face of Surya, cast in an eternal scowl. Gold trinkets dangle from the pauldrons, mask, and bracers. Each one was said to indicate a Rhynian killed, and this armor has dozens of the gold beads dangling from it. You're not sure if this armor would protect from the heat, but it's certainly a fascinating piece.

We still have yet to find any negative affects for that.
>>
>>32144284
We would have to spend our turn healing ourselves and the enemy would attack again and more bad rolls would mean more vys spent to fix them or more healing. Not to mention any permanent damage/penalty scenarios. Better to work with the numbers we know if it's not too ridiculous, like spending 6 vys to beat Prof at cards or something. Also if we're close to meditating or a break it makes zero sense to not always use up any amount of vys required to improve things. It's an unlimited resource after all.

You reach into your cloak once more, for the next suit of armor. Dragging it out of cloak it falls to the ground with a soft jangling, almost like bells. The majority of the armor is either cloth or leather, with scale mail and plate guarding more important segments. A mask with two massive horns protruding from the forehead is attached to the helmet, which itself is sewn into the hood of the armor. It seems sealed, but you can't imagine it's all that protective, and you've certainly never seen anything like it.

Glancing at it through your magic sight, it's obviously enchanted. It glows dimly, save for the mask which glows nearly as bright as your lantern does under magic sight. Oddly enough the Elaudian armor glows brightly in very specific spots, mainly around the joints and over the heart. Perhaps the armor is powered, or otherwise assist in movement? You can't be sure. The ancient Hiacian suit of armor is overall brighter than either the Elaudian suit or the Unknown suit, though it seems a more generalized enchantment that effects the entire set, rather than any specific parts.

Finally you come to the last suit of armor, and perhaps the most recently crafted though you can't speak for the set you're unfamiliar with. It's a suit of steel chain mail with a steel cuirass and bronze decorative plates. You recognize it as armor done in the style of Eastern Pidjatan nobles. While well crafted, you're not sure how it stands up against the other two. Nobody in the modern era knows how to enchant, after all. There's no way it would possibly protect against the heat radiating from that doorway.

However, just in case you're wrong, you glance at the armor through magic sight. To your surprise the curiass and helmet glow brightly, and the rest of the suit has a sort of haze to it. Perhaps somebody in the east has finally rediscovered the secrets of enchantment? Or perhaps this suit of armor is older than you'd initially expected? You can't be sure. It was sitting in a bandit's vault though so the owner is obviously dead.

It occurs to you that the man you're tracking, Baldev, has all of these things sitting in his vault, and that he left them there when going into the mines below Longia. What sort of artifact must he be wielding that treasures such as these would be considered inferior?

>Give the Elaudian suit to Captain Darzi (Protects against heat)
>Give the Hiacian suit to Captain Darzi. (May or may not protect against heat.)

No one had worn the mask before so presumably it is a common way to unbind them.
And really, it is crazy to consider that magical artifacts would be forever bound like that. Why would military produce weapons and armors which could be worn by only one person, for example? We simply need to look further into unbinding them.

Yeah when we get out we need to experiment.

My mistake, i figured if the sword can fold it self, maybe the armour has a similar function where it can make itself compact or something similar.

Yeah that being said.
I say we use that armor to meditate. I am sure it will make all meditations better.
It'd be nice to have a huge bonus.
We only did well since we were at a lake of water, and a highly magic dense place.
If we can do water again to be sure we pass the DC. But wear the armor to test and go on a water elemental s rampage again. this time with experience and armor boosting our power. we could possibly try fighting the thing that swallowed our elemental s whole..
>>32144868
the loot may seem tempting but i'd rather we not give the bitch anything.

You grab the Elaudian armor and try to lift it, but you can hardly budge it off the ground. You end up needing Darzi's help just to haul it into a sitting position against the wall. “Alright, this ought to help you with the heat. Now, how do we get this open?” She looks at you, confused. “Why are you asking me? You're the vatis, I just stab things.” You sigh, and start to poke around the joints and cracks in the armor. You get nothing. You try flipping it over onto it's back, and there isn't even a seam or any sign the armor is anything but solid.

Eventually an idea strikes you, and you roll it so its facing you and Darzi. “Stick your fingers in its eye sockets.” You direct her. She pulls her hand close to her chest. “What? Why? What good will that do?” You stand up straight, folding your arms in front of your chest. “Look, who's the vatis here? Artifacts need to be attuned to an individual to work, at least usually. A lot of weapons don't, come to think of it. Anyway, just stick your fingers in the holes.” She sighs, but after a brief hesitation does as she's told. As soon as she does, her hand flinches away.

“It pricked me! Why did it-” Her voice dies off as the armor begins to unseal itself, slowly layer after layer of metal peeling away, almost like some kind of metallic flower in bloom. It begins to rearrange itself, stretching and warping to fit her frame. When finally the last layer peels away, a silk lined interior is revealed. It's fairly obvious one is supposed to enter this armor either laying down or standing up, so you maneuver it onto the ground. She looks at it warily. “Are you sure this thing isn't going to... I don't know, crush me or something?” You wave her off. “You'll be fine, probably. Don't worry so much.”

She still seems nervous, and you're about to tell her to get on with it when she speaks. “Fine, I'll get in. Just... walk around the corner for a while. I'll tell you when I'm ready.” Gods above, what are you? A teenager? What is she so self conscious abou-oh yeah, burn scars. That makes sense. You turn on your heels and walk further into the mineshaft, until you're out of sight, and then you wait.

You hear bits of metal, presumably her armor, hit the ground followed shortly but rustling cloth. After perhaps a minute you hear the armor begin to seal itself, followed by a loud hiss. You're not sure what the hissing is. Then there's a loud clang as presumably she tries to right herself. You decide it's probably okay to return by this point, she's in the armor after all.

When you round the corner, you find her slowly pushing her way back to her feet. If you didn't know better, you could almost mistake her for a construct. The armor makes her seem completely genderless, and from a distance it's hard to tell whether or not she's simply made of metal. The only thing visible is a single eye glaring at you through the middle of the three eye holes. She seems unable to speak in the armor, but does bow her head in thanks at least.

You start trying to shove the other armors back into your cloak, but Darzi simply reaches down with one hand and picks up a suit of armor with ease, helping you push it into the cloak. The other two go quickly thanks to her new found strength, which you assume can only be a result of the armor. She also hands you her armor, presumably to store for her. Once everything is safely packed away you motion for her to follow you, and she nods her head in response. You lead her through the halls back towards the doorway Fulvia ripped open, your armor sealing itself as you approach. Profectus jumps a bit at the hulking metal monstrosity next to you but the others take it in stride.

You lead your companions hesitantly closer to the door. When you take a peek inside, the source of the heat becomes immediately clear. This entrance is just one long hallway full of melted glass and molten slag. You're not sure why everything's melted, but it has. You note that there are empty view ports into chambers on either side of the walkway, looking into sunken chambers filled with some sort of weird grey goo and lots of yellow barrels which probably stored the stuff.

The whole place is just absolutely inundated with vys, to the point that you can see it without your magic sight in the form of a hazy shimmer in the air. The door on the other end of the hallway seems to have been melted shut, but Fulvia could probably tear it open like she did this one.

You set off at a jog through the entrance hall, but after only a few feet you begin to see warnings flash through your vision, displayed by the visor covering your eyes. It's something about environmental seals being insufficient to protect against this level of... something. You're not actually sure what that word means. Well, either way it probably wouldn't be a good idea to stick around for too long if your armor isn't protecting you sufficiently.

When you reach the end of the hallway you motion Fulvia forward, she nods, and cast her spell almost immediately after beginning to gather vys. She almost seems surprised by the suddenness of it, and it was powerful enough that the walls around the door distort and twist out of the way. Then again, they were probably softened by the heat. The five of you quickly rush through the doors and find yourselves in a long platformed positioned above a wide, circular room.

In the center there is a large, circular mosaic floor. It doesn't seem to depict anything, rather there seem to simply be randomly colored tiles and the rest are all slate grey. In front of you is a long control panel extended from one wall to the other, and at each end of the platform you're standing on there is a single door. There is also a ladder down to the room below, though it looks awfully rusted.

Weapon Affinity is part of enchanting. Permanency is part of enchanting as well, but only works with specific effects. In the past, there was a whole school of magic dedicated to enchanting objects. It was studied much the same way that Earth, Water, Fire, Nature, or Metal would be today. You could make rudimentary enchantments with just Permanency and Weapon Affinity though.

{Fulvia, seal the door. Melt it shut if you have to. We can open it again on our way out.} She doesn't respond, but instead simply turns around and begins to gather vys. Once more as soon she begins to prepare the spell it almost cast itself, the two sides of the door slamming shut forcefully and melding together. Immediately the warnings hovering at the corners of your vision vanish, the unknown assailant upon your armor's environmental seals apparently confined to that room.

You approach the control pannel cautiously, taking a look at the various buttons and symbols that decorate it. Most of them seem to somehow relate to rods, or to water. Raise rods, lower rods, open floodgate, emergency shutdown. Lots of blinking red lights as well, and a few blinking yellow lights. Only one light is solid green, which you recognize as symbolizing full functionality. It's the light corresponding to 'Reactor Containment'. Another room catches your attention. 'Rear Waste Storage'. That light is dead. That's probably the area you just came from. Finally 'AI Core' is red, which bodes ill.

You stare at the controls for a short while, and then transmit through the brooches. {Fulvia, come here for a moment. I don't understand what I'm looking at here.} She approaches, and you step aside so she can get a good look at the controls. After a moment she begins to speak through the brooches. {I believe this was an experimental reactor built to test an alternative to the Void Generator. I had that there was a material discovered which gives off large quantities of corrupted vys, this was likely an attempt at purifying and harnessing the energy given off.}

Chryssa buts in with. {What is a Void Generator?} Fulvia responds after a brief pause. {I'm not actually sure why it's called that. I simply know that as material approaches a Void Generator it is destroyed and its vys harnessed, which is then harnessed before it can collapse into the generator. It makes them extremely dangerous to work with. The lanterns you've been hoarding are actually a form of minor Void Generator.}

Well, that helps. {So what do these controls actually do?} Fulvia responds promptly with. {I have no idea. The operation of this type of reactor is not included within my programming.} Well... at least you learned something. Thus the effort was not entirely wasted. {Well, we've got an AI to kill. Lets start exploring.} You set off towards the doorway on the left, pulling open the heavy steel door and ducking inside. Damned human facilities, the ceilings and doorways are always so short.
(Options in next post.)

Just how much loot are we expected to split with Darzi in the end anyway? She hasn't done all that much so far and we've given her what seems to be a pretty powerful suit of armor that we can't take back.

You slowly ascend the stairwell upwards. It's one of those winding stairwells, you always hated these though your master insisted on having them. You're convinced it was only because they were more amusing to watch you fall down after he iced them over. He stopped doing that after you started giving him the same treatment. As you reach the top of the stairwell you find yourself in a large room, flanked on either side by large protrusions of glass and metal. You're not sure if they're windows, or perhaps simply decoration. Either way the glass is solid black while the metal is plain steel. Arranged around the room are various desk and chairs, most facing one glass panel or another.

The source of the sparking sound you'd heard appears to be two wires hanging from the ceiling, severed down the middle. They languish in a pool of water that seems to be dripping from the ceiling where the two wires originally connected, likely a leak from the lake above. It seems so odd to be below a lake that vast, yet standing on dry ground. Every few seconds an arc of electricity dances across the pool of water from one wire to the other.

You could probably search the desk, if you wanted. The place is completely abandoned. Indeed, you were expecting more from this facility. Sure the entrance was harrowing, but other than that it's fairly peaceful and very clean. Where is the big bad AI or ghoul or what have you that you're supposed to be fighting?

You approach the nearest desk, pulling open a few of the drawers and looking around inside. Most of it is just old paper, though for being a thousand years old not much of it has rotted away. There's even moisture to facilitate mold growth in the form of the water leaking from the ceiling. It's odd, you think. {Here, I'm going to investigate those big metal things. Fulvia, come with me. Prof, Chrys, rifle through these desks for anything interesting.} Your companions set to work on the task you gave them, Fulvia falling in line behind you while you approach the protrusion on your left. Captain Darzi, for her part, assist your companions in looting.

As you approach the protrusion, you turn towards Fulvia. {So, any idea what these things are?} She looks from you, to the contraption, and then places her hand against it. Energy begins to arc across the generator on her back and then the massive contraption flares to life. The glass changes from a sheet of black glass into a field of shimmering black and white flecks, almost reminiscent of snow. However, in certain places the color is warped and skewed, purples, greens, and reds discoloring the image. In other palces the glass is still just dead black.

{I believe this is a remote viewing screen, though the signal is dead and it's been without power since the facility's abandonment.} The arcs of energy across her generator cease, and the screen goes dead. {Not particularly useful without any signal. It won't show us anything and there's no way of really knowing what it might have shown.} You glance across the room, to the other screen. {Could that screen still be functional?} Fulvia shrugs her shoulders. {Unlikely, but possible.}
(1/2)
>>
As you're about to set off across the room towards the other screen when you notice Captain Darzi waving her arm over her head, trying to get your attention. She has a sheaf of papers as thick as your wrist clasped in her hands. You'd forgotten that she can't really talk while wearing that armor.

You head across the room to see what she's found. She's standing in front of a desk at the end of the room, opposite the doorway and facing the rest of the room. There's a small plaque on the desk that reads 'I hate the day of the moon' and another, slightly larger plaque that reads 'Supervisor'. You take the sheaf of papers from Darzi and begin to flip through the first few pages absentmindedly.

It seems to be some kind of expense report, noting materials in, materials expended, and waste stored. After the first few pages it transitions into a series of small blurbs about numerous individuals, probably employee reviews or something like that. Apparently Furius was a 'disgusting catamite prone to insubordination'. Good to know. It would take quite a while to flip through everything contained in these documents but it might prove useful.

>Sit down and start flipping through it, tell Fulvia to go and power up the other screen.

>Mik, Prof, Fulvia, and Chryssa aren't the standard for people out here.
I'm mean seriously the only reason we aren't bat shit fucking insane is because of the shit our master put us through. Chryssa is a damm mutant, prof is a fucking human weapon/experiment that is old as fuck, and Fulvia is a fucking robot

The capN here has just in a couple of days been totured for Surya knows how long, Seen us start pulling shit out of our cloak like its fucking nothing, watched us feed a guys nose to said fucking cloak, and a shit ton of unatural monsters. What was she before this you might ask? A fucking guard captain.
