You ignore most of the other girls and instead look at everyone else fight. Momoko trounces her opponent and then sits comes sit by you as you wait for your turn on the mats. You spot a a raven haired girl that sports a sort of samurai hairstyle who effortlessly beats her opponents. Some boy with spiky orange hair that looks like a punk looks confident after his battle and there are no more interesting looking people who are actually doing alright.

Your turn comes around and you mercilessly defeat the poor chump that ended up fighting against you. You tried to be all sportsmanlike about it but he wasn't taking what you were offering and left spouting curses. Yeah, fuck you too buddy. You look to the bleachers to find that Momoko isn't there and is instead fighting on the mat that is furthest from you...well, she got a low number and you got the highest one so you sort of expected that.
Fortunately your rounds don't end up in disaster up until you reach the quarter finals.

The plain-looking boy with short black hair bows before your match starts. By all aspects he looks average beyond average, you think he might be gay too, maybe. You bow slightly to avoid feeling uncomfortable before the match starts. After your first exchange you can clearly tell he is a step above the rest of the chumps in this tournament, but he still is several below you. You manage to avoid any solid hits yourself while getting minor ones on him. He's a slippery bastard you'll give him that but that is not enough to beat you.

His sword swinging could use a lot of work and during a thrust you were sure he though he would hit you nimbly sidestep and prick the boy right on the chest. The judge gives you the victory.

You walk off and sit on a bench to take off your helmet but it isn't long before he walks up to you and offer you his hand, "It was a good fight. I realized how much more practice I need." He says.

You think he expects you to shake his hand.

You also feel that she might give you a run for your money if she was using that sword in a battle of raw skill. SHe carries it like she knows how to use it, "That's a good sword." You say, it really is, you know your swords.

She holds it up and smiles at you, "You also have good taste, I look forward to our match. There's going to be a break after this." She turns to look at the bleachers, "I think you've got some company."

You turn to see Aomi on a black and pink cheerleading outfit with your name written up front in big pink letters with black shadows alongside Hiyori, Sasaki and some of your fan club members that aren't worth remembering. She is quietly shaking her appropriately colored PomPoms but she looks REALLY excited to see you.

You turn around to thank the girl for pointing Aomi out but she's gone off to talk with some other people. Jeez. You walk up to the bleachers and sit down next to Aomi and wipe the sweat of your brow. "I though you wouldn't make it."

She puffs her cheeks and she gently punds her pompoms on you, "I tried to be here sooner but the teachers wouldn't let us come until the quarter finals. And I worked so hard on this!"

You don't say anything and just kiss her on the forehead, "Good girl." You say and about half of the girls in your little fan club except those who really know you gasp in surprise. Aomi fidgets awkwardly, "I think that means you like it."

"I love it, you're awesome." YOu say , hugging her. "My next opponent really like swords apparently. She might be fun, even if she's weird." You spot Momoko finishing her match and that orange-haired punk seems to have won his.

"Sister, you don't have any right to say that." Wait wh- "You know the answer to that." She cuts off your thought, damn she's good.

"Battle maniac, right." YOu say as you blush in embarrassment.

Someone with a loudspeaker says that there is going to be a 15 minute break before the semi-finals and finals begin. Just as Momoko sits among your group and begins talking to...the other members of the fencing club. They were totally hiding behind your fan club. She turns to you, "Masako! Even if we don't win this getting two members to the national finals will really give us more members and hopefully funding!" She holds her hand up for a high five and you reluctantly oblige, she looks so happy right now, "If we win it will be better but this is much better than I expected!" She hugs you while Aomi tries to pull you two apart.

After a quick lunch you are back at full power and ready to take your opponent who seems to have a weird sense of respect for you.

She nods at you and she begins to get ready for the battle, though she hasn't put her helmet on.

It's late in the day so it's probably comfortably warm

It's the only warm touch she has felt in years.

You don't say anything as you put on your protective helmet and your swords meet. Before you start trying to stab each other in the chest you both nod in approval of the other. The battle starts and your swords immediately start moving, damn she's good but her hits simply aren't connecting against you at first. She manages to get some minor points at the start of the match. But she never gets a solid match-winning hit in.

She takes you by surprise at first. She is unusually good and you aren't used to fighting against anyone like this besides Momoko and the way they move is way too different and she knows you're caught flat-footed. But regardless of that you manage to catch her pattern and she stops getting those glancing blows on you a few points before she wins.

Despite the want to get to the finals you don't care if you win or lose right now. You are having a hell of a time. SEconds turn to minutes as you enjoy every single moment of this battle.

You go on the offensive and begin getting more solid blows, more points for hitting her in the thighs, one in the shoulder and you finish her off with with a riposte after you parry one of her blows.


It's good to fight without having to worry about your life for once.

After winning you take your helmet off and the girl does the same. Despite losing she doesn't have one shred of negativity in her, in fact she seems to be smiling. "It was a good fight. I don't think I have enjoyed a duel as much as today." She approaches you and offers her hand, "My name is Meiya and it was good fighting with you."

You smile and shake her hand and puffing your chest out, "My name's Masako, That match was fun." You give her hand a tight squeeze and you look at her properly this time. She (unfortunately) has a much better figure than you but bobs only get in the way of a swordfight anyways. It's not as if you wish you had a better figure!

"I expected a good fight but I did not expect to be defeated." She says with a smile, "You were more dangerous than I gave you credit for." She turns to face the other fight going on between Momoko and that punk kid. "No points at all? That must be quite a show of skill." She begins staring at the match and so do you. Momoo is parrying blows that come her way and the punk is managing to dodge whatever he can't block. They're locked in a stalemate for now.

"We should go get something to eat after the tournament is over. My treat, I have a few places in mind." She crosses her arms and begins inspecting the fight closely. However your gaze wanders to Aomi who notices you and happily shakes her pompoms above her head excitedly.

You turn around and see that the main hall is still pretty full despite pretty much everyone having lost...you didn't expect THIS much of an audience. You look around once more and notice five oddly dressed girls walk into the main hall. They wear some weird heavy dresses and they all wear a mask that obscures their face. You manage to spot a bear mask, a tiger mask and a bug mask and most importantly, the all seem to be staring at you as they walk around as if they knew where you were as soon as they entered the room.

Well, shit. Good thing you did something not that favorable earlier today, you feel like you're going to need it.
