The past few days have been quite eventful. Commander Trevor and his squad have camped by the river for the night and headed back to their small camp in the forest in the morning, spending most of the evening talking about something or other before taking shifts for watch through the night. With the drones that had been hunting them now destroyed you suspect they will have a slightly less stressful time waiting for their rescue. In the meantime your hive has retrieved the melted slag that remains of the two Unity drones, and has placed the salvageable one deep within your hive. It is clear to you that there is much more going on above the clouds of your world than you first thought. Uncharted space turns out to be nowhere as empty as the term would imply.

As the sun rises behind the clouds, creating a diffuse yellow blot across the sky, you note that it seems bigger than when you first arrived. The morning dew quickly rises into a steamy fog that blankets the forest bellow your mountain.

>Research underway – Local fauna 3/6 thinkers.

Available research options
>Lightning gun
Very slow, potential of failure and destruction of sample device
>Human environment suit
Very Slow, a bulky looking, yet light weight suit composed of tightly woven fabric and small metallic plating covering the chest and forearms. The suit seems to react to injury to the user, and contains a number of devices the humans use to make up for their frail physical structure and sensitive biology. Study of this technology could offer insight into any number of research fields.
>Human technology interfacing
You have determined that the small device you retrieved from the human camp is some kind of artificial data storage. Physically it is worthless, but if you were to spend the time to develop a way to interface your thinkers with it the data within may prove well worth the effort.
>Unity Drone salvage
The physical components of the drone are quite interesting. Opening it up and taking a closer look would give you a much better idea of how the device works (grants small bonus against Unity drones, and unlocks weapon, armor, and propulsion research options)
>Unity technology interfacing
The drone itself appears to hold only a rudimentary intelligence, a study of how and where it received commands could help unlock the secrets to its behavior, and offer insight into the nature of the Unity

Your speaker makes note of Trevor and his squad returning. The commander seems troubled by something, although you are unsure what, and soon the humans set up a perimeter fence surrounding the camp using small metal cables they unravel from several small bags. The wires hum with an electric current, and violent zap a small winged creature that attempts to land on one.

Your workers have completed installing the infrastructure in your hive and are ready to begin new construction. In addition your radio antenna is ready to be set up...wait, in the heat of the moment you seem to have forgotten if you produced one or not.

You focus your mind into the new sensor systems, and at first you only pick up the same static of the thick atmosphere that your warriors have long since tuned out, but soon you manage to filter through it and make out a faint signal. It repeats itself every few minuets, and it seems too faint to be in orbit. It must be far out in the system by your guess.

"SAR automated probe six-eight-nine-nine of the USS Virtue of the Texas Battle group responding to distress. Please respond."

Your antenna does not detect much else in the system, although you can make out the strong signal of a gas giant. As you listen, however, the probe seems to be moving. Its signal moving from place to place in the system.
A star system is a big place to search. You wonder if you could broadcast a signal strong enough for the probe to detect. Perhaps you should inform the humans, although you doubt your charade of being a primitive race would hold up if they knew you were picking up signals from space.

"Don't know, but he seems to be the closest to- Ah!" Trevor looks up to your speaker from his circle of officers. You see three others. Doctor Seiner is on the left, drinking a soupy substance from a bag through a straw stuck in his helmet. The bag is labeled "Steak". On the right is a small female you remember the Commander calling Zoe, and closest to you, sliding on the small stump to look at you, is a tall pale man with several metallic devices protruding from the side of his skull. His suit is labeled "Staff Sargent Gustav Reynolds".
"You said you had called for help, yes?" You ask.
Trevor raises an eyebrow at your question. "Yes, but nothing we have down here can get through the clouds."
"We think the Ionosphere of the planet is-" Seiner starts, but is waved off by the commander.
"Why do you ask?" He continues
"The hive can hear it."
Reynolds and Seiner both speak up at once.
"You're receiving a signal?"
"You can hear radio transmission?"
You nod to them, and Seiner quickly goes into a fit of discovery.

Odd... it seems to be coming from within the atmosphere.

The flying creatures shake in the air, swerving from side to side in a panic. The first one pulls off, leaping into the air as it barrel rolls across the sky in agony while the other lunges toward your position with a mighty burst of air from its jets. The cone shaped head splits open like a flower lined with teeth, and as it does your warrior places a bolt of chitin squarely in its mouth. The creature jerks upwards far too sharply and looses its lift, tumbling downwards towards your warrior. You swiftly roll to the side, letting loose another bolt into its wings as it thrashes about in an effort to get back into the air.
The first one has finally doubled back after hearing the death cries of its partner, although its flight is still clearly impaired. Your warrior quickly places several bolts into a number of locations that you guess could hold a brain and eventually the wounded beast stops its thrashing, but you still have one more to deal with. It has already entered a dive towards you, more of a fall than an attack.

The creature is gaining altitude, thrashing from side to side as it tries to shake your warrior off.

Anon, if they're aware of us then we'll come into contact with them. If we come into contact with them then the possibility of surreptitious acquisitions exist.

Like our Speaker drone and the mini-bugs we planned for it to have. It'd be easy as pie to analyze their systems so long as their around for us to do so with.

That is provided they're friendly with us, of course. That way we're not subject to ultra-intense scrutiny.

Your worker stabs its claws deep into the creature's back, slicing into the firm, bone like wing. The creature lets out a burst of radio static as it enters a spin, and your warrior throws itself to the side, forcing the beast to turn into the dirt. As its belly grinds into the gravel and sand of the river's shore your warrior plunges its head into the ground, sheering off most of its jaw and flipping the beast to its back. Your warrior manages to leap from the crash and rolls to the side as it flops to the ground, dead. The few workers you have as a skeleton crew moves out to retrieve the bodies. Each one is quite large, but your workers will be able to manage the job by sundown.

Your warrior takes up position between the antenna and the workers as they move the bodies of the strange beasts.

At first glance it appears the creature has a natural ram jet as its method of propulsion, with the wings used only for lift and maneuvering. You add it to your list of things to study, and check on your survey team. They are returning to the hive, and have found signs of metal deposits in the river valley just to the north. You could build a mine immediatly if you wished, although drones would be vulnerable as they moved from the mine to your hive. As the sun sets you make note of the humans carving holes into the trunks of the mushroom trees. Commander Grey walks up to your speaker. "Were you able to get a response?" He asks.
"No." You say simply. He glances the ground for a moment before looking back to you.
"Well, thank's for the effort." He walks back to one of the mushroom trees and plunges a stick into the trunk, then another, until eventually there is a makeshift ladder. Through the night they take shifts, with some sleeping while others work or keep watch. You can hear something in the distance, a faint rumbling, but none of the humans seem to notice.

Your thinkers announce they have completed work on the samples you have taken from the jungle. Most are strange weeds or wild creatures, but several interesting specimens were uncovered.
The first is a small bush covered in what at first glance appears to be a kind of berry, however upon ripening the berries unfold into small, leathery bird like creatures and take flight. The small bird holds no digestive organs, but seems chemically attracted to other birds from other bushes. After finding a mate, the creature dies and becomes a seed for a new bush.

The second is a bulbous fruit filled with a highly volatile substance that bursts when handled roughly or pierced. The seeds are small, sharp thorns embedded within that fly outwards like shrapnel when the fruit bursts. The fruit grows on a vine, apparently sucking nutrients directly from a host, and the seed seems to rapidly root itself in nearly anything it becomes embedded in.

>>
>>32073508
The last is a small, thick algae that you have seen growing almost everywhere, regardless of sunlight. Your thinkers have found that the algae contains incredibly deep roots, going as far as six to seven feet into the soil. The roots are highly conductive, and respond to magnetic fields, while the soft mossy layer above ground is filled with nutrients in the form of tiny spores. The spores are perfectly non-toxic and edible, and when mixed with water become a thick nutrient rich paste. Your thinkers have come to the conclusion that the roots gain energy bu absorbing electrical currents in the ground, possibly caused by the same phenomenon that blocks the human's transmissions.

All three could be made into an excellent crop, but each would need a very different environment. You will only be able to build the infrastructure of one, at least for now.
>>

How short are the years of this world from when Thinker scxaned it?
>>
>>32074198
Plamsa based weapons are pretty weak in atmospheric conditions.
>>
>>32074200
You estimate the year to last nearly four hundred days, with each day lasting roughly 27 hours. You estimate that it will get much, much hotter before the end of summer, although you don't have a precedent to use to predict with any accuracy. Because most of the year is spent moving away or coming close to the star, most of the year is spent in winter, although the atmosphere keeps in a lot of the heat, so you doubt it will ever be extremely cold.
>>
>>32074198
As the day moves on you suspect you may actually have a quiet and uneventful moment. You can hear the distant calls of the flyers as they screech at the ground on the southern side of the jungle, likely tormenting some herd of creatures, and the humans are making good progress on their camp site, although the distant rumbling has become slightly louder, as if something is demolishing the jungle. Even still, things remain relatively peaceful as your speaker listens to the hum of the fence's electric current. You have noticed the ground moving ever so slightly as small creatures writhe in the current, with several decent sized worms coiling themselves long roots and branches that have come in contact with the fence. A few even try to get at the source, but are quickly fried for their trouble. Your speaker makes a meal out of the ones that had proven themselves just a little too brave.
>>
>>32074362
We should offer the humans refuge in our hive. We can feed them, hopefully.
>>
>>32074362
Again, the distant rumbling can be heard deep within the jungle, this time it looks like some of the humans hear it, although they seem to dismiss it as simple ambiance.

Suddenly you feel your antenna's sudden fright as it is startled by an unexpected signal.

>>32074455
No.

Can ANYONE give a good reason to?
>>
>>32074455
We really need to send a few workers to investigate that rumbling, just incase it could mean danger.
>>
>>32074498
There is if we prefer them not to make contact and take their tech away.
>>
>>32074556
>>32074539

We need to scout that noise
>>32074436
No. I'm going with working with the humans to a limited degree since thats what we voted, but inciting them in is way too far.
>>
>>32074556
yes, they requested this information, it's a sign of goodwill between our two groups, and it unifies us against the drones that keep coming down to attack us
>>
>>32074539
One stupid decision doesn't justify others.
>>
>>32074604
>attack us
not anon, but at no time did the drones attack us where they weren't directly provoked by us. We ambushed them when one of the drones was heading towards our queen our of paranoia.
I actually wanted to keep out of it, I didn't think the drones would bother us.
>>
>>32074592
They've proven to be non-aggressive to us. After all, they're pretty much first contact/pre-colonist guys. They have no reason to hurt us.
At the very least we could give them some food to keep them alive. Having people who can vouch for us being intelligent and not an all consuming blight is really useful.

>>32074652
This is very true. I think we've been running off the hope the controller of the drones will think the local fauna got them.
>>
>>32074604
Typical diplomancer delusions.

Unification is not happening.
>>
>>32074652
After attacking the humans they started searching the area and came close to our hive. Believing they would attack is was reasonable, as was launching a pre-emptive strike.

>>32074692
What are you even talking about? Are you that shadowruns guy? Don't you have a tinfoil hat to wear or something?
>>
>>32074684
Who cares?

We can establish sentience ourselves by TALKING.

We can be nice to people at the next First Contact.

It isn't usefulk at all.
>>
>>32074684
Giving them food is alright, but we can't let them in for numerous reasons, including us having the tech remains of one of their people

>>32074720
I don't think it was reasonable. They are there to kill the humans, not target the locals.
>>
>>32074523
Your speaker jerks to attention, a small electricity-eating worm hanging from its mandibles. It quickly finished its meal and looks for the human commander, who is sitting on a small rock manipulating a device on his arm.
"The hive has heard something."
Trevor looks to you, eyes wide. "You mean a signal, from space?" You nod.
"That's perfect! What did they say."
You do your best to interpret the signal. "It asked to repeat, and spoke of a texas."
"That would be the name of the fleet assigned to the frontier expan...ah I mean, well its the name of the group of humans that patrol this region. If they got the warning then they should send a small fleet to clear out any other Unity in your system and then pick us up. How do you send the transmission, if we could use what we have to try and boost the signal we could get a clear transmission.

An interesting proposal at the very least. You are unsure if such a thing would be possible, and you are even less sure why he would think so, but you and your thinkers agree that there is a slight possibility of such a thing working.
>[Y]
>[N]

Diplomacy seems more intense than dealing with an invasion, my goodness.
>>
>>32074793
Are you a Unity Drone? How do you know what they're here for?

No. It is as good as it gets.

We might be able to analyze some of their tech if they hook up to our relay thing.
>>
>>32074797
NO.

I swear you guys better not break our secrecy for durr diplomacy with the ever expanding space Confederacy.
>>
>>32074797
At this point we have not lied to them. Everything that they have assumed about us that is wrong can be thrown to miss-communication pretty easily, I say we continue down this path. Lets say
>[N]
And if they ask why we come up with some easily misunderstood reason.
>>
>>32074797
>[N]

War is easy, just shoot the other guy.

Diplomacy means getting to know him.
>>
>>32074788
They'd already know we're sentient.
But we'd need to prove we're both sapient, and can show empathy for them. A giant chittering bug thing is not the definition of empathy and caring for anything but the next meal.
Having someone who can say 'oh yeah these guys are bros' is a worth-while thing to have.

>>32074797
>[Y]
>>
>>32074829

What are we hiding that will be revealed by this decision? Our relay drone is simply an organic drone adapted to allow us to pick up odd signals.

Nothing is being revealed that they don't already know or suspect.
>>
>>32074498
Yes. There is.

He asks awkward questions like this one.

Nobody gains from this information sugaring. At all.
>>
>>32074951
Look anon, the human ship is here, It is going to find them anyway. There is absolutely no need to let the humans see our tech just to appease their impatience.

>Yes
>>
>>32074966
>We are doing a good job of blending in as locals so far.
>As giant insects on a world where just about all the lifeforms are fungus.

Those shadowruns are affecting your brain man. You gotta stop. It's not healthy!
>>
>>32074720
We are rock smashers not potential allies. A duhhhh.
>>
>>32074797
"Not possible." Your speaker chitters quickly.
"Of course, sorry I mentioned it..." He turns to go back to his apparatus, but seems to remember something and asks. "Oh, and you wouldn't happen to have seen those drones recently?"
You shake your head.
"Ah, yea. We found some remains few days ago, but it looked like there was only enough wreckage for two, I was worried the other might still be around. This planet has some big predators though, I'm sure one of them ate it or something." He smiles, and turns back to his device.
>>
>>32075023
>What are giant centipedes
>What are those flyers
>>
>>32075030
>>32075054
What?
>>
>>32074652
They shot first. At the worker who was just running around to distract them. Before we sprung the ambush. They're hostile.
>>
>>32074988
They don't know or suspect we can create drones for specific purposes like that. All they know is that we are bug people on a planet with fungus and bugs. Seeing an organic radio is a big step up from that.
>>
>>32074951
Nonsense.

If they are really the benign federation they claim to be they will talk it out first.

If they arent , do you still want them for allies?

Also we as rock smashers are not ally material.
>>
>>32075071
>Directly giving examples of creatures that are not fungus.
If you can't figure out that I'm saying we blend in I don't know what to tell you anon.
>>
>>32075098
Except, Lee saw us lay the Speaker's egg, and then a drone with a humanish mouth popped out. If he mentioned that fact at any point, they can probably guess we're a weird species.
>>
>>32075123
those flying things were fungus
they turned from weird fruit things into fungus
>>
>>32072653
Read the dialog anon.

They are talking about us before we interrupted. Talking about suspicions.

And now Mr smiles and lies is throwing our lies and secrets in our face too.
>>
>>32075120
>If they arent , do you still want them for allies?
If they aren't they will want to study us and maybe kill us. If they are then they will want to study us.
We don't want them studying us and finding out that we have explosive growth potential.
>>
>>32075141
No. We don't know where the flying ray things come from. We haven't analyzed them yet. You're thinking one of the fruits.
>>
>>32075034
"Message repeats. Signal weak, repeat la..... Battle group Texas responding to distress... Fleet E.... thirty hour...lease say again." You can hear the signal again, this time much more clearly. The source seems to have become closer, and the signal much more directed, when suddenly it stops. In its wake you sense a wave of static. Raw radiation has if the system had a second star for a brief moment, and then nothing.
>>

That's not strictly correct.

From what learned of their diplomatic policies:
"Ok people, it's illegal to be here. Class zero on the scale, we should notify Parliament once we get off this place. If we get a charter we might be able to trade for herbs or something but until then no more talking. Contact with stone-age cultures is strictly illegal."
You generally don't want to trade with the same people that you are dissecting and studying.

>>
>>32075209
Exactly, so why is the idea that we'd have a drone specifically for picking up, what is to us, weird noises that tingle our normal drone's senses.
>>
>>32075192
Thats the whole thing though, if they see our drones/devices doing things we shouldn't be able to do we would get bumped up on their scale.
>>
>>32075172
We aren't similar to the flying creatures. We're only MAYBE similar to the centipedes. It doesn't even matter, like >>32075076 pointed out, they attacked us first. They're hostile. The humans aren't. End of story.
>>
>>32075192
Your speaker walks back to its comfortable little corner of mossy algae, almost tripping over a thrashing worm that bursts from the ground as it thrashes after the electric fence.

The apparent destruction of the human probe is concerning, but you feel you should focus on more direct issues at the moment.
The distant rumbling that periodically echoes from deep within the jungle, and is getting closer. You have thought about sending a small scouting party. What kind and how many drones do you wish to send? If any.
>>
Rolled 61

>>32075247

If we get bumped up their scale, then they are recognizing us as a species of higher intelligence than before. That's going to decrease the probability of wanton dissection.

Regardless, we would probably do well to have a discuss with Lee about how their hives handles interaction with other hives.
>>
>>32075192
stone age is class zero
>>
Rolled 100

>>32075280

Yes to scouting party, I would send 2 of the newly hatched warriors and few spare workers.
>>

Thing is, the flyers, which are native to this world, also can pick up, and are affected by, radio waves.

>>32075272
The hell are you talking about? I was just saying that we don't know what the Ray things are based on. I've said nothing about anything else you're raging about.

In fact, if I understand your last couple of points, I actually agree that the Unity Probes were probably hostile. Calm down man.
>>
>>32075280
Send 1 (or more) warrior(s), and 3 workers.
>>
>>32075280
I'd just send a couple of workers for now. If we need to respond to it somehow, we can once we know what it is.
>>
>>32075312
Then who the fuck keeps arguing that we should completely cut off contact with the humans and pretend to be a local species so the drones don't attack us? Get out here and fight me.

>>32075280
Send a few drones and one warrior. We don't have much to spare.
>>
>>32075280
>Send one warrior and three workers
>Send two warriors
>Send five workers

You currently have 5 warriors and 17 workers.
>>
>>32075369
We need to make more workers, then.

1 warrior and 3 workers will do.
>>
>>32075280
I'm starting to think we should lay a batch of tiny transmit only spy bugs from that idea earlier.

Want to hear what humans are saying about us now.
>>
>>32075344
Alright, I think your not getting what I've been trying to say or maybe I'm just shitty at saying it.
I'm not saying we should cut contact, Just that we shouldn't let them see our new stuff. And I was also saying we blend in as a local species and the drones were just there for the humans. Not that we should dedicate ourselves to acting local or something.
>>
>>32075369
>Send one warrior and three workers
>>
>>32075369
One warrior, 3 workers
>>
>>32075369
>Send one warrior and three workers
This will work.
>>
>>32075369
>Send one warrior and three workers
The workers are easier to replace.

Also, I don't think anyone is suggesting that we side with the drones, it's all about to what degree we side with the humans.
>>
>>32075392
K
I agree we should keep some capabilities secret
I disagree that we blend in as a local species, these humans just aren't trained to recognize it. Plus they're fucking dumb. The drones aren't just here for the humans, they attacked our worker on sight. That wouldn't have happened if we blended in or if they were here just for humans.
>>

I am not sure what people are arguing anymore, but a suggestion.

We should not shelter the humans in our hives as I saw suggested earlier in one of the posts.

It's basically a cost-benefit analysis. We gain very little from providing shelter to humans (we already helped them quite a bit). At the same time, we risk a much higher chance of unions attacks if we shelter humans.

Your drones move out, circling around the human camp and making their way through the jungle towards the strange rumbling, which has become more and more constant. Eventually the rumbling begins to shake the fungi trees, sending the strange not-quite-animal creatures scurrying from their parent plants and into the sky, although you note many of the ground based creatures are heading in the same direction, towards the human camp....
Eventually your drones come upon what sounds like a giant tearing the jungle apart, and a massive creature bursts forth, nearly trampling your workers. On each side, and behind it are many more like it, and even more smaller creatures. It's has if the entire jungle was converging on one location in a blind rampage. What has gotten into them?

Your speaker hears a loud, satisfying zap as another worm is fried in its attempt to coil around one of the fence's posts. These worms are pretty good, actually.
I think that will be it for today, leaves us something to look forward to. Will be staying till we 404 as usual for questions, feedback, complaints and the like.
>>
>>32075178
So is it a pretty sure thing that the rescue ship got blown up?
>"Message repeats. Signal weak, repeat la..... Battle group Texas responding to distress... Fleet E.... thirty hour...lease say again."

And is he saying a rescue fleet is 30 hours away?
>>
>>32075651
Good news for the humans, the probe claimed it was automated. It likely contained a communication relay of some sort.

>rescue fleet
Perhaps, although now that the probe is gone there is no way of contacting them until they get to the system, if they get here.
>>
>>32075649
Don't tell me we're in that place.
We their fucking sentries.
>>
>>32075712

>Good relationship points with first contact
>Gets us out of being bombarded by the first thing to spot us later on
>Gets the humans off our planet
>Lets us live in peace without needing to murdalize them and cause other people to come here
>Human's friends will clear the Unity from the area, who appear to be dicks

Oh, and also

We need to tell the humans to turn off that fence.
Like, now.
Seriously, it's basically a giant dinner bell.

>>32075649

In the movie they are called Ohm, and are giant bug things that live in a toxic jungle. I actually only realized the similarity in this thread, and was hunting for some good pics between posts. Any more detail would be spoiler territory, and it's a good film so I won't say.

It's not like we're the first alien they've ever seen. Hell, it seemed like those guys don't really give a fuck about us, and even have laws against interfering with new life on worlds.
>>
>>32075948
Except, their laws state they have to leave us alone.
>>
>>32075891
And I'm sure they want to leave too. Everything is poison, everything wants to eat them, it's hot, humid, dark, always rainy, and they can't even tell if stuff is a plant or an animal.
The last part is actually rather common. Earth live evolved into plants and animals, but there was theoretically nothing stopping the development of three or more such categories, or having only one category that shifts between them all the time.

>>32075894
Yup, and that fence has one hell of a jolt.

>>32075953
I know this feel. Especially when scrolling on my phone and I click reply by accident. My thumb is too large to cancel it without zooming in, it's awful.

>>32075961

>>
>>32075993
I don't believe public policies encompass secret ones.

Odds are their government has secret research components that the notes about this first contact would draw attention from.
>>
>>32075993
>>32076006
I guess I was thinking that because I got paranoid and we are always talking about what would happen if they learnt how smart we really are.
>>
>>32076013
I figured as much, that's why I want to help them off our world.

The way I see it, helping them will most likely
>Cause them to quarantine our planet (As both a dangerous wild planet, and also a developing world not to be interfered with by their government)

This not only means they don't mess with us, BUT they might even actively protect us from Unity drones, and pirates n' shit.

I highly doubt they're gonna be eager to dissect everything planetside. This place sucks ass. And we even helped them/were friendly enough that they wouldn't WANT to push for anything like that.

Oh also, good job on the crazy flora/fauna stuff man. It's really interesting I love it.
I wish I was half as good at wildlife n' shit with my writing.
>>
>>32076053
So they might have observation drones? Maybe. But I doubt it'd be more than that. And all that means is we'd need to develop a way to hide from radar. Or hell, just not do anything above ground (I highly doubt they'd invest in a radar expensive enough to detect below layers upon layers of rock) when we can literally build our entire empire underground, yeah?

Don't worry yourself, mate, they aren't gonna find nothing, as long as we keep our nose clean (and our asses underground)
>>
>>32075891
We most certainly did not.

We got a gun suit and ONE disk.

They have a lot more. Like power generators.
>>
>>32076113
Black research departments don't stop at observation.
>>
>>32076064
Thanks, that means a lot, although I must admit the big exploding fruit were totally ripped from Metroid Prime, I just stuffed shrapnel seeds in them, which, by the way, do not naturally have the piercing power to get through standard combat armor. Your warrior could shrug it off, although it might give one of the humans a rather bad day. They are in survival suits, not armor.
>>
>>32076120
They do have a lot more, but we still got a good sample for first contact.

>Power Generators

Nah, we can do better. Probably organic designs, but you know.
>>
>>32076152
Alright anon, I admitted I was being paranoid, you take a step back and do the same.
Even if they do have some kind of off the records thing going on we should have the planet under our control by the time they get anything over here and set up.
>>
>>32076170
Nah no problem. It fits the strange world pretty well. All of it delicious.
Happy we finally got a farm too.

>>32076152
Like I said, I doubt they're going to invest that much in a dinky world like ours, with a few 'stone age' level critters, just because we figured out how to talk to humans.

Worm is love.

>>
>>32076231
Yeah, but all that really gives us is a few extra research topics (their base was mostly destroyed, remember) that would still take forever to learn, at the expense of having the human's big ass ship arrive and go "How the hell did all this happen" and only have us to answer them.

Much better to kick the humans off world, and play with the toys we got already, and expand and grow.

Tech is good, but if you have no economy, or military, it's not much good.
>>
>>32076231
Actually I think they need to abandon it after all it is getting them killed.
>>
>>32076279
Hm. That's a good point.
If they listen to us, maybe we'll get to discover electricity next.
>>
>>32076172
This is our one big opportunity to learn.

They will clam up and never share voluntarily because stone smashers. Only shot here.
>>
>>32076279
They'll just shut it off and pack it.
>>
>>32076310
I still save immediate safety and securing our homeland is a better option then jumping on possible tech that'd take a long time to research, yo.

But that's my opinion.
>>
>>32076273
You are also rather advanced too, just in different ways. You don't know how to build a space suit because you can just make a drone that's vacuum sealed, you don't need to build a nuclear reactor because you can just make a giant organic stomach that does the same thing. I tried to give everyone different solutions to the same problem, so for every alien race there is a different answer to space flight, weapons, ect. That's one of the reasons you were able to take down three flying drones with energy weapons using two warriors with projectile weapons. They were adapted to fighting a different tech.
They will learn

Some are forever. Some aren't, like tech interfacing.

Just don't want to miss a rare opportunity. For the long term tech tree potential.

Which I think is awesome and that people seem to keep forgetting. We are not some pathetic creatures without access to tech, we just need infrastructure to utilize it.
>>
>>32076336
Their deaths do not make the homeland less secure. Only help us.
>>
>>32076347
I thought as much. Half of our tech limitations seemed to be 'imagination!' too, which is nice.

Not that we really need nuclear reactors, at the moment. But the time will come, I suppose.

I wonder if the Unity is A.I. or something, as a side note. They seemed oddly hostile, and I remember someone saying the humans 'created' them

>>32076370
Yeah, I can appreciate that.
I wouldn't mind getting that tech, if something bad happened to the humans, but I'd just prefer to get them off world safely. I am really hoping it'd basically make our world off limits while we take it over.

Would be sweet.
>>
>>32076347
A giant stomach that does nuclear fusion?
>>
>>32076397
It's not their deaths in particular, it's everything that's happened so far, and then their deaths.
>Signal goes out
>Comes in
>Unity tried to kill our dudes, what dicks
>Wait what's this? New species? Well there's no data, so we better analyze.

As opposed to
>Oh you have that species analyzed?
>Yep, stone smashes man. They are radio sensitive tho
>Okay, cool. Locking down system, as is standard for emerging species.
>>
>>32076334
They can try but it will slow them down and make them vulnerable to predators.
>>32076397
It attracts attention. Something we want to avoid.
>>
>>32076413
Wonder?

Dude it was the most oibvious thing since the moment they were called a mistake. So oibvious it didn't merit commenting on.
>>
>>32076468
Ha, I suppose it is heavily hinted on. I just try to not make assumptions, is all.
>>
>>32075961
Looking through this site and it looks really nice. Most of the time spent between threads has actually been spent world building, it's always been a favored pastime of mine. I have always been the kind of guy that asks "Why is the dragon sitting in the room?"

>>32076425
Well, maybe not exactly, but you get my point. Other races would put fuel in their ships, you would "feed" it just like a really big drone.

>>32076413
I would love to tell you, and I will when you finish Unity research.
>>
Oh can we do drone design and laying at ends of threads?

So it doesn't sloiw down action?

I want a super olfactory worker.
>>
>>32076551
Sure, It's probably the best place for brainstorming new designs.
>>
>>32076576
Alright then I had an idea
Rather, I had an idea I stole

You ever see 'Aliens', QuestDrone?
>>
>>32076593
It and the film before it are two of my favorite films of all time, and I refuse to acknowledge that any others were made.

In fact, if it has space bugs in it, I am probably a fan of it, and if I haven't seen it I would like to.

http://www.avpgalaxy.net/games/avp-extinction/aliens/

See this for what I am referencing I know it wasn't that good a game, but I loved it as a kid.

What do you think of:

>A 'Scouting specialist' drone, built for extreme speed, and maneuverability, can fly, and run faster then most land creatures are able. Claws possibly poisoned to allow for hit and run, if the thing is ever attacked. If killed, it's exoskeleton collapses, and explodes like a grenade, releasing shrapnel into all nearby foes. Venom in it's claws, if used, would also allow for tracking done by a tracker drone (or simply put superior oilfactory receptors in this model. (Based off 'Runner')

>'Improved' Warrior: Possible additions to the warrior model, or special models. Make it's blood acidic upon death, and causing it to explode and spray all nearby foes (our units are always resistant to whatever acid they have). Improved carapace resilience too, to allow Warriors to function even when severely damaged and still prove a threat. (Based on (duh) Warrior)

>Heavy Hitter 'Terror' Drone: (A fusion of Predalien and Ravager) comes equipped with massive scythe arms designed to carve through armor, and flesh (four arms possibly?) and be terrifying to organic beings as well. Carapace is heavily reinforced (slow as hell) but if sufficiently damaged, can take time to regenerate it's health (either by eating foes, feasting on nutrients, or simply going dormant for a time in the field, whichever is most possible). Hyper evolutionary carapace means it slowly, after every battle, grows tougher and harder to kill.

One quick question, will we ever gain creep/hive nodes/obligatory floor covering substance bugs get in movies because shut up?
Cuz I kinda really like that shit. Cliche or no.

Present for you.

>>32076828
I loved that game so much, I wish it had a skirmish mode.

While I would love to make you guys the 'Perfect' organism, it would be just slightly OP. I'm a "yes, but" guy, so I'm cool with a lot of these ideas, and in fact the chemical forge will actually explode upon death since the forge is under pressure with highly volatile chemicals, and the speaker will dissolve itself on death, although in a less violent manner. Your drones, however, would be vulnerable to the explosions of a dying drone if they were within range.

And the organic infrastructure you just finished? That's the gooey wall stuff. I would never forget that.
>>
>>32076833
I love that game. There are few things more entertaining than playing as an invisible alien rhino, although skulks are loads of fun too.
>>
>>32076918
You too? Man I thought I was the only one to play it.
Glad to meet someone else then heh.

>Don't want us to be the perfect organism
Yeah...a lot of the ideas do sound dangerously good...
Well, maybe it's a end game hope maybe? I really want to have something like the Ravager around at one point. That fucker was amazing.

>Infrastructure IS the goo!
Awww shit our cave just got way cooler in my head. How did I forget about that.
>>
>>32076943
The guy who made the video is one of the creators of the game I suggest watching his videos if you haven't yet.

Also can we create some NotFades
>>
>>32077017
Yea, I was in the beta with some friends. It's a damn fine game. Fades, you mean the teleporting dudes? Hmm... well that would need a very, VERY small FTL drive. As it is your FTL is very large, and takes a while to charge up before jumping. It would be rather tricky to put them on a land based drone, and very dangerous even if it worked, since jump calculations are made much more difficult by gravity. A micro-jump on a planet's surface would have a very high chance of ending up inside a wall, or in orbit. Cloaking, however is another story, and would be possible, but very difficult to develop.

>>32076981
End game I could see all sorts of things being used. As for a flying scout drone, that would be rather easy to design. A drone with wings and enhanced senses, but it would be small, frail, and have poor damage potential. Essentially a "sniffer" drone. A combat oriented flying drone, however, would be able to use its speed to put more force behind its attacks, giving it much more of a punch than its small size would imply, while you would be able to graft small weapons like Sting casters, or any reverse engineered weapons that you miniaturize enough for it to carry.
>>
>>32077157
Interesting. I like the idea of having flying sniffers, and hit and run style flyers, I am also interesting in more variety in weapons...

What do we need to research to develop poisons, acids, diseases, etc?
>>
>>32077157
>Fades, you mean the teleporting dudes?
They don't teleport.
>wiki.unknownworlds.com/ns2/Blink#Blink
>>
Hey QD, I'm curious. Is this your first quest, you've run? If so your doing a damn good job.
>>
>>32077220
You already have acid, which is currently used in the chemical forge. A chemical forge drone can vomit up the volatile chemicals when in danger, causing massive burning damage to anything it touches. Poisons and toxins are all around you, in the air, the water, the soil, (especially the ocean) so you just need to study a specific toxin enough to develop a drone that is immune to use it in combat. Same with diseases, although you would need to study the biology of the target race to develop it properly.

>>32077245
Ah, my bad, although it does seem to use FTL tech, so if you used your own FTL tech you would have the same problem of ending up inside walls or flinging yourself into orbit half the time, while the Human's FTL is incredibly volatile and would probably just end up making another black hole where the drone was standing.

Cloaking is a go, though. It's just a while down the tech tree.

>>32077253
Thanks, and yea, first quest I ever ran.
>>
>>32077407
>Chemical forges already use it
Neat. It'd be a perfect secondary weapon, I think. For pretty much all our forces, if it's not terribly expensive. I'd be interested in developing higher and higher level acids too, if we can.

>Diseases and toxins all around you
Oh, right. Did we pick up any from studying the fauna?
Or do we need biology for that first?
>>
>>32077442
You will need to study a toxin specifically to weaponize it. That kind of work is a lot more complex than farming.

As for the chemical forge, it comes with a few drawbacks. Its volatile nature means that the drone explodes upon death or extensive damage, and the forge itself along with the necessary adaptations to contain the chemicals means the drone is very large and cumbersome. It is also quite expensive, although it makes up for that by providing much needed metal alloys.
