You are Arva, the Overlord of the tower in Strongwind.
You gained this title after murdering the previous Overlord with your holy blade, The Savior.
There have been some minor repairs to the tower and it now has a massive bathing facility and a war room. Eluria's chambers, which house the Black Gate, have also gotten an expansion. There are also a few new demons. With you there are...
Elyva, a small demoness that has been summoned from another realm by...
Elura, the tower's demonologist. She can summon and bind demons from other realms for a small price of souls or gold.
Istur the tower's architect. He maintains the traps and can build new buildings.
Nix, a demon with four arms and man eyes. Very strong and makes sure your demons are working efficiently..
And finally there's Krus, a once valiant knight that has had her soul ripped out and replaced by a demon. She and 3 other former knights, Dyf, Sersino, and Lurrie, are your spies in the land of Strongwind.
Your current stock is 200 gold, 4 souls, 2 magical souls and 2 golden souls.
You have rings that allow you to communicate with one of your minions and a pair of goggles that allow you to see souls and their quality. Also the bodies of the twins who you got the magic souls from in the first place.

"195 gold. Final offer."

"My lord you can not just bargain with the forces of magic..." Your demonologist, Eluria, folds her unusual arms under her chest and sighs. "It will cost 3 magical souls and 1 soul to make the tower move. There's simply no other way to do it."

"But I don't HAVE three magical souls! Those twins only gave us one each and I... I want to have an awesome moving tower..."

"We have other more important issues. We've taken over a chunk of Strongwind's army and they're starting to get suspicious. We have their only mages now and those two are supposed to be working on getting the other knights who are 'captured' (dead) freed from our 'stasis traps' (we murdered them). Mages of their skill wouldn't take so long to remove such a simple trap."

"So what do we do?"

>She shrugs.

"I'm not one for dealing with mortals beyond taking their souls. It's up to you."

Shit. I didn't plan this far ahead. I was hoping we could just keep tricking more and more knights into coming in here.

>___
>>
>army
>only 2 mages
Do we know of the army size and what other assets they have?
>>
We're not yet strong enough to openly move against Strongwind, but it won't take long for them to start suspecting something may be amiss. We of course have the advantage that they think us dead.

Perhaps it should be time to switch the mayor with something... more obedient.
>>
>>31959131
Ugh.

Sending them back and have them pretend they killed us but the 'captured' knights got killed won't work, I guess...
>>

We have way too many females here, let's recruit some men!
>>

Can we just have the infiltrators currently in town just kill the commanders/ mayor/ whatever in their sleep?
>>
>>31959131
Can we get any info from the mages on the army's command and such? Or did we shove demons into them? I can't quite remember.

Of course let me see....

>Arva pulls out a few papers from her desk. Her demonologist starts to wander around the room and idly rifles through some of the old overlord's things.

Right now their army is around 18 people and whatever other townsfolk they can rouse up to fight. We've got the souls and bodies of their two mages, still no idea what to do with those yet, and 4 possessed knights that are our spies.

>>31959237
Yeah, we can't. They're starting to suspect. Remember, they think I'm dead still and that they're just clearing out the tower.

>>31959219
That is a good idea but how do we go about this? Do I go to the village and kidnap him myself? Or perhaps trick him into coming here somehow. My knights could escort him, I suppose.

>>31959268
Tell me about it. Total taco party in here. All we have are two male knights and that one scrawny mage. He's souldead anyway.

>>31959313
Twins who used elemental magic. Right now we just have their soulless bodies working with Elyva and their Magical Souls stored away.

>>31959292
We could, fairly easily I'd imagine. But that would betray the fact that we're dead. Unless we're going for a full takeover right now. Stealth or straight out attack... Either way we need to get that mayor. He will be a key figure.
Krus mentioned she was quite close to him when he was alive.

>___
>>
>>31959326
Hmmm...
Maybe try to pump the Mages' souls for info?
>>
>>31959326
Hey now, Taco is delicious!
Anyway, do we have any idea as to how long until the army sends more people up here?
>>
>>31959326
>18 people
don't call that an army
that's a poor excuse for even a militia

Anyway if you need an excuse for those 2 people you killed, just say they goofed removing the stasis trap effects and now they're lost in time forever or something.

And the term isn't taco party, it's clam fest
>>
>>31959326
Let's summon some male demons then. What your standard Baphomet would cost?
>>
Okay, we need the mayor. Why not have the knights invite him to the tower to deal with certain complications, like.. Say, the Tower always needs a master. The previous guy was murdered by Arva, while Arva was "killed" by these guys. But the Tower must have a lord and it demands to speak with someone of authority. Before it gets that, it will not release the men in stasis. Our knights can escort the mayor for safety.

Having a hard time coming up with a reason to drag him out of the city.
>>
>>31959423
I agree, getting the mayor would be pretty useful. However, the town is probably...not very trusting of us, so to speak. Abducting him might be easier.

>>31959398
Clam, taco. Whatever. Point is we need some good men up in here. If I start getting a harem of just women people will get ideas. Not entirely incorrect ideas but ideas nonetheless.

"Hey, Eluria."

"Hmm?"

"How much would it cost to get, like, a baphomet up in here?"

"... 'The' Baphomet? More than we could ever afford. Why do you ask?"

"I was just thinking we have too many lady workers in here. Nothing against them, of course, but I want to even the playing field a bit."

"Oh my... I wasn't aware that our Overlord was concerned with such things~ I can summon just about any demon you desire for 5 souls. Simply tell me what you want of them and I will make it. The more souls the better, of course."

"Great. Hey, is there any way to interrogate souls for information?"

"I don't believe there is... But you can talk to Istur. He may have something."

"Will do."

Let's see what the old man is up to.

>Arva takes a trip to Istur's chamber. The man is working on some sort of item.

"Hey, Istur. Is it possible to create a device that lets us interrogate souls?"

"Of course... I can start on one right now if you desire. It would only be 35 gold."

"Hmm... Sure, take it. I think it will be quite useful to us."

>Arva now has 165 gold.

>>31959423
>>31959508
So what are we going for here? Abduction? Trickery? Murder? Let's get a plan going here, guys.

>___
>>
>>31959508
The trouble is managing that quietly. If they realize the mayor is batting for our team they'll just kill him.
>>
>>31959040
sweet! like the phoenix we rise again
>>
>>31959545
Ideally we'd only need the mayor to stall for time while we take over the 18 tools.

Bloody hell, how large even is this town. Inb4 the 18 get slaughtered by the peasants and all this was for naught. We need power here.
>>
>>31959540
Let's abduct him at midnight. Try and have the minions do it stealthily. If we keep bringing people into the tower and having them come out acting slightly differently, people are gonna get suspicious.
>>
>>31959540
I'd say try abduction. Is the Mayor married? If not we could do it in the night and have him back by morning maybe. If not, things get harder.

And no wasting souls on demons until we need one, no matter the gender.
>>
>>31959584
We have the demons, but their problem is how far they can range from the gate. Hence why there was an idea to mobilize the tower itself.
>>
>>31959326
we already have a plan, the knights are coming in on shifts, each time they get taken out by knockout gas and then possessed.
They are getting suspicious, but so far they are going along with it. The more knights we have, the more suspicion they can deflect. Just say it is a really robust trap that takes a long ritual to breakl
>>
>>31959605
Abduction by night is the best plan, but it needs to work the first try. If we blow it, they'll know something's wront at the tower since there's still demons milling around attacking the town.
>>
>>31959540
>Tacos are pretty fucking delicious. I would kill for one right now. Literally. Anyway, I don't think they'll be sending anymore people anytime soon. My communication ring with Krus reveals that they are in fact seriously worried about the loss of their mages.
We have the mage bodies in stasis and we establish we can reinsert a soul. I know it would be very wasteful, but we could put one of them back, then have it possessed and have that mage go out and assure the knights all is well.

Or, we could have the 4 knights we already have come out and assure them that all is well

and if they don't believe them... well at knight have our knights use knockout gas canisters to kidnap the other knights, cart them to our tower, and get the whole lot possessed
>>
>>31959540
>"Great. Hey, is there any way to interrogate souls for information?"
if we put that soul in a body and let a demon possess them they will consume the soul gaining ALL its memories and will gladly share them with us.
in fact, we have done that before

>>31959636
Unfortunately they already are suspicious. They're not sending anyone else until there's word from the mages. Some of the townsfolk feel like they should be done with the spell by now.

>>31959605
>>31959599
Abduction it is... Now we wait.

>Arva is in constant communication with Krus and her allies as they make their move. The mayor lives alone, his wife having died a few years ago. His house is completely unguarded and the knights are able to easily slip inside. They have left their armor elsewhere to prevent the sound of clinking metal giving them away.
>They sneak upstairs with their weapons in hand...
>The mayor is dead asleep. Krus walks up to him and covers his mouth with a piece of cloth dipped in an alchemical potion. In seconds the may is asleep. She order Lurrie and Dyf to carry the body downstairs. As they do so the door opens. A woman who they recognize as one of the waitresses in the tavern steps in. She walks like someone who isn't trying to sneak anywhere.

Shit. Didn't expect anyone to actually come inside.

>Stealth it is. Arva's knights gently set down the body of the mayor in a place that isn't easily noticed.

"David~? Did you fall asleep again~?"

>The woman walks up the stairs, her hips swaying as she does so. Lurrie reaches out from the shadow and grabs her, his mouth going over her hand. She thrashes about and ends up landing a solid hit on his crotch. The demon possessed knight doubles over in pain and the girl starts to run away. She opens her mouth to scream but Krus get to her. She makes a swift strike to the back of her head and quickly knocks the girl out. She crumples to the ground and is scooped up by Krus.
>The four knights take the mayor and his lover to the tower under the cover of night....

>The mayor is the first to wake. He's tied up on a chair in Eluria's chamber. He's groggy at first but once he sees Eluria he wakes right up.

"A-arva..? I thought you died..."

"It will take more than that to kill me, Mayor."

>Roughly 32 times more than that.

"What would you like to do with him, Arva~?" Eluria is practically giddy with a new subject. The girl loves her job way too much.
>>
>>31959917
Ask her if she has any ideas. Tell her that we'll want to keep him (or at least, his likeness) alive and returned to his home by morning, so we can use his mayoral status.

>Try to knock her out as well
She isn't really worthy, but possession costs us nothing and she will be returning with him in the morning.
Actually this gives us an excellent cover if anyone thinks something is suspecious, obviously he was having an affair with her and snuck to the forest for some private time
>>
>>31959917
possession on both. their souls are completely mundane and have no special worth, and their memories are critical for the demon to properly perform the ruse
>>
>>31959917
I see 2 ways to deal with the remaining knights

1. Sleep gas canisters, our knights toss it in their building at knight, then collect them for possession
2. Mage body in stasis, put a regular soul in it, then have it possessed. It won't have the mage's memories but it doesn't need them. Said possessed mage can go back to town and reassure the knights its just an excepptionally strong stasis trap but they are making good progress.
3. same as 2, but use the mage soul, rather wasteful but can sell it better.

in all of the above plans, the possessed mayor should take our side
>>
>>31960129
oh, one more plan
4. Have mayor convince knights to go in at full force to find out what happened to the mages. All knights go in, fall into a sleep poison trap (have our trap master change the traps from lethal to knockout poison)

"Well I'm thinking just possession, what about you?"

"As much as I would like to play I'll have to agree... We need as much of his body and mannerisms as we can get." She pouts a bit but you can see she's still excited.

>>31960036
Genius.

"Alright, mayor. Normally there would be this really big affair where I try to get information out of you. You resist as long as you can, then spill the beans. But, see... I still wouldn't be able to tell if you're telling me what I want to hear or the truth. So, we're going to cut out the middleman, you, and just get all the information we need. Eluria, get the knife."

"You... You can't do this Arva! You are a good girl! I know you are! I'm friends with your father!"

".... Eluria, I believe I told you to get the knife?"

>The man's protests get louder as your demonologist approaches him with her wicked blade. Arva looks away, she still can not stand the sight of that thing, as Eluria performs her ritual. Soon the mans' screams die out as a new demon, one who identifies himself as Alo, takes over his body. The woman he came with soon follows as her body is taken over by a demon named Algandar. He complains a bit about having a crappy body but is more than glad to be out of the demon realm.
>Arva asks them any questions that come to her mind. She finds out that the town does not trust the tower. They have hired a group of powerful mages to come and take it down once and for all. They will be here tomorrow.

"Shit... What do we have that's anti-mage?"

"Nothing, milord. The tower barely stood against the twins. If these mages are of sufficient power it will be difficult to stop them."

"Can we call them off?"

"Not without raising suspicion" Alo says.

>>31960129
>>31960148
If we took over the remaining knights we would have a very nice group of fighters. That might be able to stand against the mages.

I really want those magical souls, too...
>>
>>31960188
yeah looks like we're gonna need to abduct and possess/revive a bunch of people to kill those mages

we could also ambush them/poison their food in the town
>>
>>31960188
Correct my memory, but wouldn't having a demon possess the mages give us a demon with magic powers?
I am thinking we are best off putting both mage souls in bodies out of stasis and then getting both possessed. Then using them both to reassure the knights and get all the knights possessed.
Then with our team of 20 knights and 2 mages we trick and ambush the group of mages that arrives tommorow, preferably with poison in food too, and lies from our mages and the like. and then we get ourselves a whole BUNCH of mage souls to make the tower mobile.

You have to spend money to make money, and right now we have to spend 2 mage souls.

>Arva gets the mages from Elyva. She seems a bit upset at losing her helpers but doesn't put up much of a fuss. Eluria performs the ritual and soon two new demons possess their bodies. The male introduces himself as Raviel and the female calls herself Erra.
>Then your real plan begins.

>You have the mages enter the town and with the mayor working with them they manage to convince the townsfolk that the tower is now fairly safe but the stasis field proved to be too much. The knights who were trapped in there are dead.
>The mayor says that they will now empty the tower of it's plundered spoils and finally destroy it. He sends in groups of knights, 3 at a time with one of your own in the group, to the tower.
>It's a busy day but eventually all of them are possessed.
>Arva feels a shiver go down her spine. She's done it. She's taken over a villages entire security force without them even realizing it. Not only that but she has their mages and mayor under her control. This is what it means to be in power.
>Eluria is slumped over a desk now. The girl is tired. That's a first.

"I... I'm done, milord... I can't perform this ritual anymore... Please, let me rest..."

"Go, you've earned it."

>The mages have already arrive in town. A brawny man and a woman dressed in dark robes.

>Eluria relaxes in the deluxe baths while Arva sets her plan into motion. The tavern wench she had possessed earlier will actually come in handy. When the mages order their drinks she is sure to spike them with enough poison to kill a dragon.
>From the side of the tavern her knights watch as the mages drink. The reaction is almost instantaneous. The woman gags and claws at her neck. Her partner is quick to react. First he casts a spell on himself and then another on her. The poison is removed from their bodies. The man uses another spell and lifts up the tavern girl. People run out of the tavern while a few back away against the wall.

You don't recall what Golden does? A quick refresher on souls, then. To summon demons we need to entice them into our world. The most common methods are gold and souls. 100 gold is equal to 1 soul. However, a Golden Soul is the soul of someone who is destined to go to paradise. Basically, the opposite of me. These Golden Souls are worth 5 normal souls or 500 gold. Now if this is a Golden Magical Soul...
>She looks over to Eluria to confirm her suspicions. The demoness nods.

Hooooly shit. This is a Golden Soul that's worth 5 Magical Souls. This guy must be some kinda crazy powerful saint mage or something. This is amazing.

"Eluria, get both of these souls."

"Of course, milord."

>Eventually Arva is left with a Magical Soul and a Golden Magical Soul.
>Istur informs her that they've finished with the machine as well.

Oh boy... I can finally have a floating castle. This is gonna be amazing.
Also we've done it, Guides! We've taken over the whole goddamn town! Strongwind is ours!

Just use a regular one.
>>
>>31961403
Good job getting the town, we should keep it running (relatively) normally...just getting our proper due in taxes. After all, if we keep our occupation relatively covert, we can trade more easily, have steady income, and maybe dodge some intrepid adventurers or larger forces assaulting us.
>>
>>31961493
I think we get stronger demons with a mage soul. Ones we can't get with a normal soul.
>>
>>31961537
No we can't. Arva confirmed that they act identical to the equivalent soul for purposes of summoning.
>>
>>31961558
alright, thanks.
Yeah don't use those for demon summoning then. Better to give our troops magic or buy magical effects.
>>
>>31961615
>>31961558
>>31961537
it is important to make a distinciton between summon and possess

Summon - a soul is given to a demon who appears in our world in their own body. This is most cost efficient with souls of no particular worth
Possess - a demon is summoned into a living body, it tears and consumes the soul within, gaining all its memories. If the victim was a mage, the demon gains their magic powers!

We can also use a soul to make magic happen. Like transforming he tower, enchanting equipment, etc

Depending on the individual, it can be more efficient to possess or to summon. A highly trained warrior whose soul is mediocre is better for possession, since the high quality body and skills are retained. A random dirt peasant is better for summoning

Also, another trick in the arsenal is to summon a demon who possesses magic and then steal his magic for yourself. It is NOT going to make them happy. But other demons don't care much because they are demons.
Or we can summon a demon with magic to just cast that magic for us and have them train us on the side.

>Arva asks Eluria what could a Golden Soul buy.
>She says that pretty much anything that normal souls could buy. There are very few things that require a Golden Soul specifically. If Arva ever wants to summon some kind of demon lord she can burn up a Golden Soul and a few normal souls to do so. The Golden Magical Soul can essential be used as either 5 normal Souls, 1 Golden Soul, or 5 Magical Souls. She can't think of anything that would use that kind of soul in particular. With the leftover Magical Soul she can give any of her current units the ability to use spells.

"Make me a frigging floating tower. Do it."

Eluria: "As you wish, milord."

>The spell is a complicated one but soon there is a deep rumbling sound. The tower rises slowly off of the ground. Arva laughs maniacally as she looks out the window. The tower is floating off of the ground and moving!

Perfect!

Of course. It's my new town. After they pay me taxes they will find that it's run mostly the same. I want my new territory to work well unlike what the last Overlord was doing.

>Or we can summon a demon with magic to just cast that magic for us and have them train us on the side.
If we want training we already have two mages possessed, might as well have them teach us.
>>
>>31961778
the soulless bodies are the mages, right? If we can't do anything other than summon a demon to shove into them might as well just throw them away. Warrior bodies are better.

Also how can we increase the tower range for our demonic troops? It's cool that we can fly now and all, but I'd rather not fly everywhere, and keep it as a secret in case we get invaded. Plus flying everywhere would get damn impractical as our empire grows.
>>

I think it's time to be a bit more aggressive. We have most/all the security, right?

Start sending people back to the order to infiltrate.

>>31961958
>Mobile throne or whatever

What. That sounds useless.
>>
>>31961857

that is a waste, keep them around to do menial jobs around the tower
We could also use them for necromancy or who knows what kind of magic ritual we would learn in the future that can use up a soulless slave
>>
>>31961890
>How cheap could we get demon foot soldiers for?
depends on the quality. a better question is what quality is a 1 soul demon foot soldier, 3 soul, 5 soul, etc.

We earlier learned that demons grow weaker the further from the tower they get. but luckily we can now relocate the tower

>>31961973
our plan from earlier was to stage a resurrection ritual, with the knights "failing to stop us".
The ritual would be smoke and mirrors and mislead people about the source of our return to life (it would be hilarious when they try to stop future resurrection rituals).
After our resurrection, the knights and mayor should surrender to us.

Oh, before that, we should set our knights to do some banditry to get us more souls. to summon a small group of demons to perform the ritual and "defeat" the knights and subjugate the town

with the towns people under the impression that the knights and mayor are still on their side, we can nip any rebellion in the bud, as the knights would be the obvious leaders to such a rebellion
>>
>>31962135
It would be great to know what other mages there are.

Aside from this >>31962008, i've got a couple of plans if you don't mind staying incognito for a while.

>move tower in
>kidnap the rest of the authorities
>Have the mayor call a meeting outside the tower
>Make him claim that he's figured out a way to have the demons help the village
>start sprucing the place up: walls, houses, tourist spots, general messengers and helpers
>boost that economy, lay low and just get souls when people die.

We can have something ominous happen later and make your full return happen with stormy clouds and everything.
>>
>>31962254
alternatively, we can let people think we are still dead and assume another identity. "totally different overlord"
>>
>>31962282
I think Arva is too vain to be confused as anyone but herself.
>>
>>31962279
Oh, we wanted to extend the tower's aura of soul absorption outside of the tower's own walls.
We got basic locomotion now. So we can park it in middle of town. we will need a plot to harvest more mage souls to expand the soul harvesting aura's range. Eventually it can cover the whole town, at which point we don't need to kill people for souls again. just wait for them to die naturally
>>
>>31962282
I think only the village knows us
outside this place no one has ever heard of Arva
doesn't matter if we claim to be her or some other overlord, so may as well just use our real name.
>>
>>31962326
yea, point. I mean, ideally we would have claimed to be the old overlord. if she just claimed to be his new messenger people would have done what she said. but she wants to be known as a PROPER overlady Arva and show how its done. this means she has to be her own lady

... although really, the best result would have been to claim to be the apprentice of old overlord. go on conquests in his name. And then stage a fake coup where we take over from him. works very smoothly since he was dead the whole time
>>
>>31962336
old overlord had dominion over multiple towns, he would rain fire on entire towns if they disobeyed him.

I like where this is going, but but the whole "he refuses to leave you side" thing has too many holes in it. why are we asking HER instead of him?

oh, idea. we can use one of our golden souls to summon an illusionist demon. He can create the illusions to really sell the town on the resurrection ritual + the demon army defeats the knights and mages. But doesn't kill them. Then having the mayor and knights officially surrender to us. Then a newly "resurrected" us gives a speech about how a proper overlord takes care of her subjects, and our rule would be good for all.

The knights and mages on our side can, with info from the interrogated mage, contact more of her order to lure them into a trap as well. Hopefully to gain enough mage souls to expand our tower influence radius.

summoning an illusionist with a REGULAR soul

If you use a possession on a mage soul, the demon gains their magic
if they SUMMON a demon with their soul you just wasted a perfectly good mage soul. Summoning is done with mundane souls. mage souls are used for creating magical artifacts. Like making the tower float or making the tower aura reach further

Eventually some of those would die, either through the dangers of the school itself or from age, and we get more magic souls.

We are supposedly taking in children and pretty much raising them in house. Ideally some loyalty is instilled. As well as our values (this btw means that capturing their souls after their death saves them from hell. but we still aren't telling them)

Aside from that, how common are magic academies in the world? probably not very. Why would another magic academy accept our corrupted mages who are mostly evil leaning due to how they were raised? (demon teachers).

Plus, we are gonna conquer the world. if we find a bigger better town/academy we can relocate our tower there and make it our capital once we conquer it.
>>
>>31963371
>>31963245
that all being said, I am fine with free housing, and in fact think we should pay them a salary to be a state employee
>>
>>31963371
I'm still not seeing why it wouldn't be a good idea to give them incentives to stay. Also, why would we tell anyone the teachers are demons?

Besides, I'm assuming adults can learn magic too, and that at least some of the children we teach will have parents that live in the village.
>>
>>31963460
>I'm still not seeing why it wouldn't be a good idea to give them incentives to stay.
I am still not seeing where I ever said we shouldn't give them incentives to stay. I explicitly said we should. That post was an explanation on why you are wrong about them all just leaving. Not an argument against giving them incentives (which I explicitly stated, in fact I suggested more incentives than you did)

>Also, why would we tell anyone the teachers are demons?
where did I specifically say we would make it public knowledge that the teachers are demons?
>>
>>31963460
>Besides, I'm assuming adults can learn magic too, and that at least some of the children we teach will have parents that live in the village.
that is more dangerous because we don't get to influence their young malleable minds.
I want to train underlings not enemies.

Actually in retrospect, I am not sure if magic involves talent or just education. if it is the latter we could just have an orphanage/magic school
>>
>>31963626
>Why would another magic academy accept our corrupted mages who are mostly evil leaning due to how they were raised? (demon teachers).

Here. Also, I don't think only two demons could teach an entire school. It may work for now, but we may need to recruit some of the graduates back to the school as teachers.
>>
>>31963689
>Here.
you misunderstood, I am saying our graduates are going to be evil because they were educated by demons. Not that they whole world is going to be told they were educated by demons.
>Also, I don't think only two demons could teach an entire school.
IIRC I suggested we summon more magic using demons, using regular souls (it costs 5 dirt farmer souls a piece). Those demons will do double duty as both teachers, and the backbone of our army.
>>
>>31963689
>but we may need to recruit some of the graduates back to the school as teachers.
I figured that was implied. obviously we would recruit ALL the graduates. either as combat mages for our army, as educators, or as researchers. The latter two will be living on campus so if they kick the bucket we get their soul
>>
>>31963653
A soul is a soul. It's also why I suggested incentives to stay, so even adults that want to learn how to be a mage could come and stay (and perhaps have an "accident" if we need some mage souls fast).

>>31963810

We don't need to teach the children to be evil so much as blindly obedient. I was assuming we wouldn't be overtly evil on the exterior to avoid adventurers and stuff.
>>
>>31963810
>you misunderstood, I am saying our graduates are going to be evil because they were educated by demons.

>A soul is a soul.

>>
>>31963881
and I figured we would have the demons teach them to be lawful evil. because if we are raising righteous mages then they will turn on us.
>>
Guys how many virgin sacrifices do you think would be reasonable to demand from the village? I don't think they're very big, so 5 per generation would probably be pushing it. I'm sure they could easily manage 2-3 though.
>>
>>31963896
I was assuming we wouldn't let them in on the whole "we are evil" thing. You know, what we've been doing these past few threads?

Turning away adult students denies us a source of mage souls. If you want to be careful about it we could refuse to teach them the more dangerous magic and focus on illusion and whatnot.
>>
>>31963916
They don't have to be evil to be obedient. Unlawful does not equal evil.
>>
>>31963916
>because if we are raising righteous mages then they will turn on us.

I didn't really advocate that. Lawful neutral is better than lawful evil. You want them to screw us over in the future?
>>
>>31964101
>I was assuming we wouldn't let them in on the whole "we are evil" thing.
I don't see where you are pulling this nonsense from.
Look it is really fucking simple
Step 1: Acquire orphans
Step 2: Give them education
Step 3: Educators should teach the both magic and lawful evil ethics

I don't know why you insist this means I want to advertise to the world that we got demons as teachers, that we are evil, or any of that other nonsense.
That being said, the world already assumes we are evil for taking the mantle of the overlord, and we traumatized a child and sent him back with stories about demons.

I also don't see why you think its a good idea to raise a bunch of self righteous do gooders and teach them magic.

>>31964123
they have to be evil to tolerate our acts. "oh, the overlord killed some peasants? good for her, now bring me another slave for my magical experiments".
>>
>>31964155
This isn't an exact science here. And "neutral" can still be appalled by our atrocities.
You are confusing evil with "unlimited ambition and backstabbing". You can instil evil values (slaves/peons are beneath us, its ok to kill them) and at the same time instill loyalty (backstabbing never ends well, its best to work together, climbing up the hierarchy of an organization is more rewarding then staging a revolution, I am content with what I have, etc)
>>
>>31964180
>Educators should teach the both magic and lawful evil ethics
I get the magic, but you're still losing me with the "lawful evil" stuff.
These are going to be human employees, they're not going to know the inner workings of our empire. If we need them that much we can just stuff their body with a demon that is loyal to us. There's no reason to raise a bunch of people to be evil as opposed to neutral but obedient to us.

>I also don't see why you think its a good idea to raise a bunch of self righteous do gooders and teach them magic.

Sorry, I didn't realize all adults were do gooders. Thank you for correcting me.

I think a big problem is that we are using overly simplistic terms from dnd alignment instead of clarifying in greater details.

Here is what I propose.
We raise callous and selfish individuals who are lacking in empathy and willing to condone atrocities.
But the same time we instill a good sense of fear, the notion that going alone gets your ass wrecked by the group, that backstabbing is counter productive because the world is full of people to exploit, but only groups can properly do so. And backstabbing causes your group to fall apart and makes you have less overall. And as much loyalty to the country as possible. We might even do some spinning with alternative definitions of "good" as well a good dose of humbleness

then again, this level of social engineering is quite difficult

What atrocities would we show them? People justify taking over other civilizations through conquest all the time. As long as they're patriotic we can lead them into doing a lot of shit for us.
>>
>>31964297
My argument is that lawful evil are going to be MORE loyal to us than neutral individuals.
Neutral means both good and evil leaning. they would be appalled by some of our acts.
Evil won't care.

>Sorry, I didn't realize all adults were do gooders. Thank you for correcting me.
You can't mold the personality of an adult. How are you going to distinguish between the do gooders and the villains? And the villains are probably not going to be loyal to us either. So its a lose-lose scenario no matter what their original alignment is.

Consider that the towns have uncontested chivalrous orders and resent the overlord, a propensity towards goodness seem to be the case. or at least, a repulsion at the depth of evil we are sinking into (feeding souls to demons)

There's literally no reason to raise them to be selfish when we can raise them to take care of each other, and only each other.

Look at Nazi Germany. The troops followed horrible orders, but were they bad people? Were they raised in a evil society?

We don't need to pump out fearful edgemasters, we just need to enforce patriotism to the state and loyalty to us.

we won't show them, they will find out. we are committing atrocities, mages are extremely capable in detecting that.
A lot of patriots have turned into whistle blowers when they found things they couldn't stomach being done by their governments

Try reading the entire post, please.
90% of it is about loyalty to the group, aka "taking care of each other".

The twins seemed pretty fuckin clueless to what we were doing.
>>
>>31964408
I still think you're going about this the wrong way. As long as we keep up the facade that we're not an evil overlord, they won't have a reason to take us over.

>>31964474
What I got from your post was that you wanted to raise them in fear of the group, and that fear would keep them in line.

>>31964531
twins were elementalists

You are thinking too ridgedly. You can believe that single handedly taking on society will end poorly for you, yet at the same time have genuine loyalty to society. And fear of abandonment is an actual thing.

>>31964437
>Look at Nazi Germany. The troops followed horrible orders
Mostly out of fear. anyone who spoke against the atrocities, who didn't openly condoned them, disappeared in the night and was sent to a death camp. Spies were everywhere. your neighbors, children... big brother was everywhere. the thought police was everywhere.

Fuck it, we are wasting time unnecessarily debating IRL psychology. Lets just get some manipulator demons and ask them raise us loyal minions however they think is best

>Mostly out of fear.

Mostly because they were being ordered by an authority figure.

At least, according to my psychology and history classes. I'm assuming they're at least somewhat reliable.

learn some history

We should use the mage girl's soul to boost the tower somehow.
That way she can be with her friend forever. So romantic!
>>
>>31964887
Yes, I realize Nazi Germany had a secret police.

I was saying that the psychological reason troops in the field obeyed orders was because they were being ordered by an authority figure.

>learn some history
That's part of the reason I took those classes.
>>

IIRC we going to do that. specifically we are saving her to use with other mage souls to expand the tower's Dominion range.
This has 2 effects:
1. people who die outside the tower, within said range, get their souls captured by us automagically
2. demons we summoned can operate at full power within the expanded domain, and can go further away from the tower before losing their powers

I would recommend getting some lessons in magic and combat for our overlord tbh. We can't afford to keep wasting lives and there appears to be some magic that isn't fueled by souls which would be much better to pick up.
