Your hot link sausage sandwich tastes pretty good. The presentation was a lot simpler than you were expecting for twenty dollars, but you’re willing to cede looks for taste. God, is that good. Maybe the spartaness of the presentation (link + bun in small plastic boat, cup of thick, brown sauce on side) is the point.

Your eyes were red and puffy as you glanced at your reflection in the mirrors of Skyler’s car, but they don’t feel as raw or inflamed now. Wendy, that fucking whore.

You smile at nothing, your eyes focused on the scenery a thousand yards away, and crush the anger like Wendy crushed you. It’s not good to feel these feelings on a day where your life might be put into her hands.

You can get mad on a day off.

Skyler turns his head and looks over his shoulder, looking for what you’re boring a hole into with your gaze.

He doesn’t see anything. “Michelle?”

Your eyes defocus as your eyebrows tighten and pinch together, and you pull back into the scene you exist in, not the one you were imagining in a far away place.

You take a glance at his face and laugh nervously, girlishly. Ha ha, you’re so funny Skyler

He looks away quickly, embarrassedly. Goddamnit Michelle, what is wrong with you?

Skyler, looks around awkwardly a slideshow of conflict and uncertainty on his face as he coughs awkwardly, “So...listen to music?”

This has always been a “safe,” topic for him and Wendy to discuss.

“You know, uh...stuff? Yeah, you know. Normal, regular stuff.”

Skyler doesn’t look like he believes you. “Oh, really?”

He pulls out his phone and opens a note app. “Tell me more.”

You pull at your collar and say, “Whatever was...uh, on at the base?”

He looks smug as he puts the phone away, “Nothing then?”

“...I guess.”

He rubs his temples and picks up his sandwich again.

>Fuck these Eurovision judges, Jesus. What a fucking scam.

You can save this. You know just how. “Wait! Hold on...I remember one I liked.”

Skyler looks at you but remains impassive.

“It’s got some words and sounds and goes like…”

You grab some plastic silverware and bang them against the table.

There is no discernible melody, beat, or rhythm. Skyer quickly covers the two spoons and your hands and pins them against the table.

“Please. I’m begging you.”

You fidget in your seat, uncomfortable with the body contact and everything else about this situation too.

That made it all worse. Good work, Michelle.

“So...uh, what do, you know, you listen to?”

It seems like you’ve killed his enthusiasm, but he responds. Politeness? Maybe he isn’t utterly exhausted yet. “A lot? Mostly continental stuff, I guess, but in the last few years there’s been a lot of new rap and hip-hop coming out from Aztlan and the Aztechs, although I don’t really get Spanish.”

Cool, cool. You nod along. You wish you knew what those words meant. “Cool.”

You squirm underneath Skyler’s hands and quickly and awkwardly pull back, elbowing the plastic cup with your soda in it.

It dances around the table for a very uncomfortable second before Skyler gently grabs it and puts it back in place.

You cough, squirming nervously in your seat as a thoroughly uncomfortable silence settles over the table.

You feel yourself chewing loudly and attempt to hide it behind a gulp of drink, which only makes it worse.

You drum your fingers on the fabric of your...whatever your pants are made of. Something. “So...um, isn’t rap like...wordy? I mean like, you know, if you don’t understand it and whatever…”

Skyler’s eyes look empty as he responds, “I know some words and phrases, and I’ve picked some up from Wendy. It’s mostly about the beat and how it sounds, anyways. What it means has never been that important.”

“...sorry for being so weird.”

To his credit he doesn’t react, only looks at his watch. “We better get going.”

He pounds the rest of whatever’s in his cup and walks out. You hurriedly do the same and try to keep up with his long stride, and end up mostly riding his heels.

Skyler turns the volume up as you drive back. You’re not sure if it’s just to protect himself from you.

Wendy is there, sitting, a-

...ok, that’s weird. Those markings weren’t there a hour ago.

“Umm...Wendy, you got something on your face…”

You dab at the skin underneath your eyes.

Wendy reaches into her bag next to her and pulls out a small pocket mirror and examines her face, and her eyes go wide in panic.

“FUCK! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!”

She slings her bag over her shoulder and races out of the room. You sit down awkwardly.

You reply, deadpan (although it’s not really much different from usual tone), “Me am having much understandings.”

He laughs. It sounds genuine. “Good. Maybe you’re not the retard everyone in the booth thinks you are. The venue should be on display on the screen in the green room. Do you see it?”

You scan your head about 100 degrees clockwise, and you see a large, pale blue diagram. Looks like a… something.

“I see it.”

“Good. Today should be simple. You’ll be crashing an event hosted by two girls and somewhere between 1 to four or five or six guards under the shadow of some clocktower at some mall. The guards are inconsequential, but I see that they’ve been flagged in today’s file as generating some extra bounty. I guess that means we like them even less. Whatever. The girls need to die, you’ll make extra bank depending on how greedy and murderously disgusting you are.

On the map I’ve flagged the tower the girls will be near with orange, and probable guard locations in red. A car will be ready to exfil once they’re dead. If you need me call me. Yates out.”

You walk closer to the map.

Yates has forwarded another image to show relative scale of the buildings. Climbing them is certainly possible, but the expected foot traffic indicates it would be extremely difficult to impossible to do so without notice, especially after shots are fired.

>>
>>31963771
EU is sleeping now, maybe NA hasn't shown up.
>>
>>31963635
Yeah...just snipe the TARGETS from FAR away by the getaway vehicle. They are in a tower so we can stay at a distance down one of those avenues, possibly by the parking lot. When we make a getaway, just rpg any pursuing HOSTILES.

From now on, idols are called either TARGETS or ASSETS and guards either HOSTILES or ALLIES.

>>31963771
Its morbid planning to kill little girls, like cannibalism from a male point of view. Other than that, this is in a public setting in broad daylight and no good cover. I don't see where the getaway vehicle could be place for quick getaway. This is a shit job really.
>>
>>31963876
NA just got off work or eating dinner at the moment.

They're not actually in the tower, they're just underneath it. Probably under some sort of tent, the day's forecast indicates sun with wispy clouds.

Inb4 substitutes and doubles.
>>
>>31964124
Nah. Not yet, anyways. If you live long enough, maybe, and start going after the girls worth hundreds of thousands/millions/tens of millions/etc, instead of the cheap ones.
>>
>>31964100
We should have one or two of us close by to keep them from escaping in case the sniping plan doesn't work out for whatever reason.
>>
>>31964211
Nah, triple snipers for two targets is good enough. The key thing is the getaway, it'll be 5-6 vs 3 after the assassination. If they chase us in a vehicle, we can just rpg it or floor it.
>>
>>31962979
It seems like there's a loose (tight?) consensus on standing as far away as you can, and then braining the girls and anyone else you can get away with.

I'm mainly worried about not getting one of the girls. We are absolutely not allowed to let one of them get away. And I don't trust that we'll be able to get them both on the first shot, even with three of us shooting at two of them. Murphy's Law and all that.

You point at the photos. “This is insane.”

Wendy still isn’t back. Skyler stands up and takes a closer look.

“Yep. It’s like this was purposely designed to NOT give a clear sight line from the parking lot to the center. Christ…”

“Maybe we should just like, you know, only go far enough in so we can raise a rifle and shoot them dead?”

Skyler looks at you briefly and then back to the map. “Where do we take the shots from? There’s going to be a ton of traffic.”

>?
>>
>>31964946
It's probably fine, I'm likely just being overly cautious. I just want Michelle's first big girl mission to go well, since she's had spaghetti falling out of her pockets all day and murder is the one thing she seems to be good at.
>>
>>31964981
From the parking lot, when they are arriving, if not leaving. Or you know, do it like last time, board their tour bus and execute the lot.
>>
>>31964981
The wooded area to the south seems the best bet, so long as we can find somewhere with LOS. Everywhere else is too close in or blocked by corners.

“Maybe if we wrap in through this...tree-path-thing? It looks like we can avoid most of the protection. Do we have to do it during the day? Can’t we wait until after they’re done?”

Skyler shrugs, “That’s a handler question.”

You repeat the question to Yates, who replies, “If you feel like playing a dangerous game. If they escape alive, we will find you and we will kill you.

As long as they’re dead within or near the mall, although the company naturally prefers a most grizzly, blood splattered tent.”

>Michelle’s action
>>
>>31965618
I'm up for either sniping them through the wooded area during the event, or using the crowd to get close, then bang and sweep.

>>
>>31966441
Yeah, that's kind of my feeling as well...and it gives me some space to get my dinner and everything taken care of.

Probably the best plan. I'll be here checking and replying to anything, but I'll freeze the big updates for another hour or two and see if any of the Pacifica crowd wakes up and whatever.

I really want to take care of today's combat session today.
>>
>>31966563

>>
>>31966632

“So...that’s ominous.”

“Yep.”

“Ok, so...how about we, you know, hulk out and ram raid the shit out of them? I mean, if the choice is maybe get killed by them, or definitely killed by the company...you know.”

Skyler rubs his face and, for a moment, looks utterly exhausted, “Yeah. That might work. If we can blow through the first few bodies without having any return fire we might be alright.

Where the hell is Wendy?”

You shrug. “I’ll check the bathroom.”

You trudge along, not excited about wasting time, to the women’s room and push past the door.

Wendy’s standing trying to cover up the marks on her face with...something. Looks like a skin color sock, or something. It seems like she’s taken care of most it.

“Hey, uh...Wendy, we’ve got a, you know, ...thing…”

“Fuck off, Michelle. I’m busy.”

You squirm uncomfortably, shifting your weight from each foot and back again. “Look they said if we don’t kill them in the mall or at least near it they’re going to kill us. If I wanted to die I would’ve done it already. Can you come out now please?”

“I said fuck off, Michelle. Christ. I’ll be done in a few minutes.”

You stare at her, awkwardly, watching as she flinches in pain every time she puts the makeup on her skin.

“So, you know, ...what exactly are those?”

“Long story. Fuck off.”

Well then. She seems prickly. She stomps into the main area of the ready room and looks at the photos on the wall.

“Is this it?”

Skyler nods.

“We’re going to blend in as far as we can. You enter through the north walkway here, and I’ll come in through the west like we planned. Skyler will stay at the south. He’ll engage first. He should be able to take both guards easily. We’ll drop flas- or…

I had a better idea.”

They both raise their eyebrows at you. Uh oh. Better deliver, Michelle.

“Smoke. Thermal can cut through the smoke, and the guys on the ground probably won’t be equipped with any. At the very least only one or two, tops, and it’ll be obvious which are. We’ll drop smokes on remote hard in the east alley, and lighter in our corridors. They’ll either double down at their booth or try to herd the girls towards a more clear avenue.”

You sigh heavily. “Then we can kill the girls.”

Wendy examines you closely. “That’s not a bad plan.”

Skyler adds, “Yeah. We might not die today.”

The three of you dress casually, hiding your ballistic vests under jackets. Wendy and you hide your SMGs inside your purses, and Skyler has his underneath his jacket on account of his bigger, taller frame.

Your exfil vehicle is going to be at the south alley. Skyler will provide cover as you and Wendy rotate counterclockwise. It’s set to pull up and be ready to go once the engagement begins.

You quickly double check your magazines, vest, and get your thermals (which are...ok, wow, they’re actually just...sunglasses. You didn’t have these in Afghanistan) from inventory and on your face, and quickly cycle them back and forth.

They’re working fine.

It’s a quiet drive from the complex to the mall. Far be it from you to break the silence.

The three of you are let out inside a parking structure, and you quickly find your own ways into the mall and your positions.

You keep your eyes open as you walk your lane, and lay the smoke grenades into position.

You casually walk up to a handful of small planter boxes and drop your grenades into them while looking at your phone. You loiter for a few seconds under the shade of a tree, and find that each time nobody even so much as looks at your face.

Whew. First time you’ve ever been grateful for being, you know...gross.

You stand and continue to play with your phone as you check out what’s going on ahead of you. The girls are sitting underneath a large white tent with their company’s logo all over it, behind a folding desk.

Uh oh. If those desks are like your desks you’re going to need to go around them.

Two men are beside them, one on each side, as suspected. You pan your head.

You have one guard to your 9, another at your 11, one at your 3, and another on your 1.

So...one less than you were expecting. That’s good. Better, at least. You might have a chance now.

Wendy comes on over the comm line, quietly, and whispers into your ear, “It’s your call, Michelle. Say when.”

mind reposting the dice rules? I've forgotten how they work
>>
>>31970993
Sure. Wetwork Idols uses a system called ORE (one Roll Engine) for its dice mechanics.

Every character has Stats, and Skills. To get your dice pool, you take your Stat, add in the relevant Skill, and any situational modifiers, and roll that many d10.

ORE plays a bit like poker. You're looking for matching dice in your pool. 10 10s is the best success possible, 2 2s is the worst success (but still a success!).

I'm on my third beer, so hopefully I actually answered your question.

so better the stat + skill modifiers equals how many d10's we roll, then the better matching numbers/pairs, the better the success, seems simple enough though with low dice pool counts, prone to low odds of success

>>31971076
unless you're this lucky
>>
>>31971106
Keep in mind I take the best of 3. So even though you're rolling a "low," pool, you've got three shots to succeed.

Most of the time, the odds are more in your favor than if I were GMing the P&P version.

You walk briskly. So briskly, in fact, that the guard at your 12 on the north end of the table actually moves out of your way and lets you pass.

You whisper into the air, “Now.”

You thumb the small, coin sized detonator in your pocket and quickly tap your thermals into infrared as the space around you pops like a chicken being dismembered and smoke floods the scene.

“Go go go go!”

You reach into your bag for your gun and turn around.

Rata-tat-tat. Wendy and Skyler begin firing. Now you need to do your job.

You begin firing, out of anxiety or excitement, before you fully shoulder your weapon, causing it to walk well beyond what you were prepared to control with your stance. But, as ugly as it is, enough of the 5mm rounds hit your man as to cut him down in a spray of brightly colored splatter.

Wendy has her first target down. Skyler has killed his.

You see muzzle flashes all around you, but only hear only one scream of pain and agony as the life leaks out of his open mouth. From the direction, it sounded like Skyler stepped into the courtyard to engage the last man, and that Wendy missed her shots.

You assume none of them scored hits. Your shots do, and you watch as spots of orange and red cool to greens and blues and, eventually, fade into nothingness as the heat leaves his blood.

There is only one combatant left. Wendy will probably kill him.

There are two idols, shaking, crouching, underneath their table.

Skyler stands, watching, “Whatever you’re going to do, do it. We’re running out of time.”

>Make your move, Michelle.
>>
>>31971611
Make it quick, one shot through the head.

We have a job that involves killing teen girls, we should probably try to limit how horrible we're going to feel about doing this later.

>only 6:40pm here

>>
>>31971611
Did we bring grenades? if so pop them in their mouths, attach some string to them, pull the pins, then when we're at a safe distance, pull the string releasing the spoons if they are Ye Olde style grenades, if not, detonate them when we're at a suitable distance.

>>31971642
>We have a job that involves killing teen girls, we should probably try to limit how horrible we're going to feel about doing this later.
oh I know, but we get paid more for how we do it:
>>31962979
>The girls need to die, you’ll make extra bank depending on how greedy and murderously disgusting you are.
>>
>>31971654 here again

an alternative would be to give one a pistol with 1 round in it and tell her to kill the other girl, if not we kill her, then we give the remaining girl the same pistol with 1 bullet, and she can choose, kill herself or force us to do it
>>
>>31971654
The subordinate clause there was actually referring to the bounty out on the guards.

Yates' comment about the spree killing is:
>"As long as they’re [the idols] dead within or near the mall, although the company naturally prefers a most grizzly, blood splattered tent.”
>>
>>31971654
>>31971664
Michelle didn't handle the last round of child-killing we had to all that well. I don't know if she could bring herself to feed grenades to civilians.

...yet.
>>
>>31971668
>The subordinate clause there was actually referring to the bounty out on the guards.
oh? the wording in >>31962979 heavily implies we get extra for how brutal we murder the girls

if thats not the case, then just pop them in the head, quick and clean
>>
>>31971693
oh I know, I was just being extra brutal for the money, but that might not be the case re: >>31971668, I'm kind of confused who
>The girls need to die, you’ll make extra bank depending on how greedy and murderously disgusting you are.
was directed towards now
>>
>>31971694
Sorry for being unclear with my wording.

Your encounters with Yates so far have been pretty brief, but you definitely get the impression he'd warm up a lot to you the more grotesque the crime scene.

In addition, you'd probably get a lot more sensational news coverage.

Your monetary reward, though, wouldn't change. Just your reputation.
>>
>>31971706
The guards. Parse it as "The girls need to die [the idols], you'll make extra bank depending on how greedy and murderously disgusting you are [in regards to whether you kill or don't kill their guards]."
>>
>>31971722
>>31971729
right, then we make it quick, clean and painless for the girls
>>
>>31971730 here again

also, you might want to force a line break or something to separate the sentence and focus it towards who its directed at, because it seems to just be a run on sentence still directed at the girls
>>
>>31971730
And I thought I was going to be able to write Michelle snapping in a big way.

>>
>>31971779
Oh no, the consequences would have been far less immediate.
>>
>>31971793
I guess that option would imply that the company actually cared.
>>
>>31971779
yeah, I'd like to keep her sane and not end up like the creeps we met in the last thread, hell, if we could capture an idol instead of kill her I'd go for it, and keep her as a maid/servant at home just to be merciful
>>
>>31971803
The Company does care, it's just that it's priorities and morals are less than human.
>>
>>31971611

You pull your service sidearm out from underneath your jacket and release the safety. You walk slowly over to the girl to your right, and crouch down. She’s curled into a ball, crying.

You settle the muzzle of your pistol against her head and fire twice.

Shots to the temple are notoriously unreliable. You don’t want to have an accident.

The second girl begins shuffling away from you as fast as she can on the palms of her hands, the heels of her feet, and her bottom.

She doesn’t make it far before Skyler steps in and grabs her by her ponytail, and lifts her so far up she’s at eye level with you.

You make eye contact, and raise your gun right between her eyes.

You whisper, “Bang.”

Your gun echos you, and Skyler drops her corpse to the ground. Wendy sheaths a knife and drops it into her bag, and the three of you leave quickly, the smoke still thick in the air.

You figure this entire engagement took less than 30 seconds.

It’s a quiet ride back to the Complex.

Think on your sins, Michelle. You have plenty of time.
