You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

You’re stuck.

No really, on one arm, you have Kitten, snuggling up with you, sleeping peacefully and being cute as applepie. That would be perfectly fine. On the other arm though is Michelle DeWitt, Ace Gunner, who is ALSO snuggling up with you, sleeping peacefully and being cute as applepie.

You never imagined this kind of situation would ever happen to you, but well, here you are.

What should you do? You can’t feel your arms.

Okay, now I'm wondering if Trudy's leg dexterity could pull off such a feat. Those yoga lessons had to count for something, right?

Since it was a rather slapdash job, probably no more than 20k, but you have to take into account the time we'll have to spend sending it to Perrine, having her look for the schematics and having ITL officials breathing down her neck for supervision and historical accuracy.

You sigh. It’s fine, you like cute things. Cute things are cute.

It’s another half hour before Kitten finally stirs. Her eyes flutter as she yawns quietly, more of a squeaking than a yawn. She smiles at you, “Morning, sleepy. You wait up for me?”

You shrug as best you can. “Well….” You nod over to Michelle, still slumbering soundly.

“Ah,” says Kitten. “That’s cute.”

Regardless of cuteness, Kitten hops off the bed quietly and walks over to the shower. Michelle groans as she wakes up, rolling off your arm and curling up. “… too early…” she says.

Eh, you’ll take it.

With that, all of you work through the daily morning routine. Getting dressed, getting showered, brushing hair, brushing teeth, eating food, etc.

Finally, you meet your staff outside your dorm. Unfortunately, the weather has decided to say fuck you to LGA again.

BECAUSE IT’S FUCKING SNOWING.

You rush down the stairs then quickly flop on your back into the gathering snow, letting the cool frost nip at you. You start flopping your arms legs, laughing. “Snow angels! Haha!”

Lisa crosses her arms while Nancy, Michelle, and Kitten simply giggle along with you. Kitten rushes in along with you and starts forming a snow angel in the snow with you.

Lisa sighs. “This is our student council president.”

“Oh, don’t be so crass,” says Nancy. “It’s lovely! It’s the second snow this year!”

Lisa says, “Yeah, but in November? And not even like late November!”

With that, you head onto school. No cancellations today apparently . Not even a delay. For a school that recruits mostly below the Mason-Dixon line, they sure are hardy when it comes to school. A few students are already participating in snowball fights all across, and you even manage to get a few snowballs in on them.

No one can ever surprise you.

“You ever have matches in the snow?” you ask Michelle.

Michelle shrugs as she watches people pelt each other with balls of snow. “A few. We mostly wore goggles to keep our eyes from getting blinded by the snow, and Joanna’s a pretty good driver over all, she could take Hobbes across the ocean if she wanted to.”

“Neat,” says Nancy. “I wonder if it’ll be snowy for our match with Pravda.”

“Well, if the weather’s any indication,” says Lisa, “Maybe. I’d honestly hate it.”

“Of course,” you say. “Still, snow is lovely this time of year! It’ll be an interesting challenge fighting another team on snowy conditions!”

“Would certainly be better than playing Sidewinder on Halo,” says Kitten. All of you look at her, confused. “Come on, Trudy, you know what I’m talking about.”

“I do,” you say as you tug on her cheek. “I just like teasing you.”

With that, you arrive at school. Hall Monitors are desperately trying to break up snowball fights, but to no great avail. They can’t stop girls from having fun.

“Hey, Gertrude!” You look over to see Henrietta Carnegie and Andrea Frick hiding behind a low wall. “We’re going to ambush Fredendall and Fairless when they come in. You in?”

You leave your crew and Michelle to join Henrietta and Andrea at the wall. Both you and Henrietta start piling up snowballs for the inevitable slaughterfest that’ll be Fredendall’s downbringing and holy shit you always wanted to do this and you finally get the chance.

“Andrea,” says Henrietta. “How come you ain’t helping?”

Andrea shrugs, playing around on her phone. “I am.”

“You’re more connected to that phone than a Siamese brother to his own,” says Henrietta as she peeks over the wall. “Oh, here they come!”

Fredendall, Fairless, and Claire Walker come around the corner. Fredendall looks pissed as all hell, probably the weather. All three of you get snowballs ready.

Henrietta gives a rebel yell, standing and pitching a snowball like Ty Cobb. It splatters all over Fredendall’s chest, flooring her immediately. Claire and Fairless immediately duck out of the way, holding up their bags as shields.

You all laugh as you start bombarding Fredendall with snowballs while she’s still on the ground. “Motherfucker! Carnegie! Frick! What the hell-“ You interrupt her with a snowball to the face. “AH! POOL!”

Oh man, this is too fun!

“Oi!” A whistle blows, and you look over to see O’Hara and O’Brian pointing at you. “No snowball fights!” They extend their batons, running at you.

“It’s the filth!” yells Henrietta as she tosses one last snowball at Fredendall. “Cheese it!”

You drop your snowball, taking one last look at Fredendall writhing on the ground, screaming in anger. Oh too precious. But regardless, time to hoof it. You, Henrietta, and Andrea split off and run down away and out of sight, laughing all the way.

Your only regret is that you didn’t think to do this kind of stuff earlier.

Regardless, it’s time for class. You head on to your math class and move on to taking notes, paying attention, and answering questions like a good little model student. The same goes for English and Chemistry. Nothing could beat that moment when you made Fredendall eat snow, and hopefully there won’t be a darn thing they can do about it.

Because, you know, Student Council President.

“Not much, Perrine. How about you?”

“Just prepping for the Unlimited Nationals coming up in several months! We’re experimenting, planning, all that stuff! You know that O-I Chi-Ha-Tan had?”

“Yeah, what about it?”

“They sold it to us! Apparently, Nishi was saving it for later in the tournament and they can’t afford the upkeep for it! So, what we’re going to do is take it, fuse a couple of sponsons on the side, put a King Tiger turret on top with a revolving cannon system patented by moi, and voila we have quite possibly the best tank that’s sure to win us the tournament!”

“… that’s nice.”

“So, what are you calling about?”

“I was wondering if there were any other modifications to the S35, field mods, slapdash jobs, stuff like that that aren’t the S40 or the Sau?”

“Hm… Stratton has a few friends in the History department who tell me that the S35 got modded by a few Yugoslavs with a Six Pounder. Good gun I reckon! Tell you what, I’ll run it by the judges, I’ll text you later if it’s legal or not. If it is, I can give you a good rate of 10, maybe 12,000 Dollars for a week with the thing. Sound good?”

“Sure,” you say.

“Great!”

With that, you hang up. Lisa chuckles a bit. “How is she?”

You shrug. “Fun as ever.”

With that, you all get your lunch and sit down to eat.

Lisa laughs. “Jeez, we should have joined you there!”

“Was she hurt?” asked Nancy. Of course she would be concerned.

“Nah,” you say, waving her off. “If anything, she only got the wind knocked out of her. It was all in good fun, I’m surprised Henrietta and Andrea seemed up to it.”

Lisa shrugs. “Those two are pretty wacky as far as things go.”

You nod, smiling. “Yeah, yeah. Anyway, we got any potential sponsors?”

Lisa shrugs. “Not at the moment. That Hobby shop Charlotte frequents said he was interested, he’ll want to talk to you in person about it though.”

Nancy puts her phone away. “Irregardless! I look forward to welcoming them here at LGA! They’ll be bunking with me!”

Certainly a formidable roster. You’ll have to study into their commander later, you can sort of guess that their balanced line up means that they’re great for most situations.

> + 5 CP

You arrive at the HQ early. You find Lutz on the couch, reading a Tankery magazine. “Hey, been a while.”

Lutz looks up at you, smiling as always. “Hello, Gertrude!”

With that, your crews start arriving. All of them talk excitedly about the snow. It’s probably going to be hell practicing in it though, especially with Wendy.

You all stand in the hangar, shivering a bit from the cold. The snow is still falling a bit but it’s probably nothing. It’ll let up soon at least.

Wendy says, “Right, just to let you all know, next Saturday is our match with Pravda. We might fight them in conditions similar to this one, and it’s definitely going to be a rush of Russian tanks. Does anyone have any questions?”

Cathy raises her hand. “Will we be okay?”

“Provided we have a good plan and nothing goes wrong, sure,” says Wendy. “The IS-2 and the KV-2 are horrible at actual tank to tank brawling despite their large calibers and the rest are tanks that can be penetrated by pretty much everything we have here.”

Anna raises her hand. “Do we have to exercise in this weather?”

“Yes,” says Wendy. “Rain or shine, I’m making loaders out of all of you.” She looks over to you. “So, Gertrude. What shall we start with?”

You all run through the snow, clad in your Tankery Uniforms. Your hot breathes dissipate into vapor as you all slog it around the field, Wendy screaming at you all to pick it up.

“Come on, you little girls!” yells Wendy. “This is a girly thing we’re doing! You can paint your nails, talk about cute boys, and try on the latest fashion while you’re at it!”

Charlotte screams, “This sucks!”

“Life sucks, get over it!” Wendy screams back.

Kitten vomits a bit, quickly wiping her mouth as she runs, pale as a ghost. “You okay, Kitten?” you ask concernedly.

Kitten pants a bit, “I’ve had worse! You remember the Pacer back in Middle School!”

“Yeah, they nearly hospitalized you for that,” you say.

With that, you continue on until Wendy decides to call it quits. Everyone drops on their asses, groaning and sighing in exhaustion.

“HOLY MOTHERFUCKING GOD IT’S COLD IN HELL!” screams Barkas. As Kate explained to you and her, the Hellcat isn’t exactly well-known for being warm during the cold weather days.

Despite that, their Hellcat soldiers on during the snowbound practice. Your tanks were going slower than usual, cut to around 20 miles an hour at best on flat terrain. The snow at least wasn’t freezing like it would in earlier Snowmageddons back in DC and Virginia, but it was still packing up and getting caught in the tracks. Joanna and Wendy’s solution was anti-freeze along with pouring some oil in the treads to keep the snow from sticking onto the treads and wheels. Same technique they use on snow plows.

Of course, you also saw that on Top Gear, you’re not entirely sure if actually works but at least it’s keeping your tanks moving.

The practice continues on, and the new teams seem to have more or less settled into their tanks. The Magicians themselves have a whale of a time settling into their new Sherman.

Sounds like a good plan. That one decent girl with the anime club should be a nice prospect here.

Speaking of which, we do need to decide which tank they are going to be assigned to. If the timing worked out I would suggest grabbing the T/34 chassis and getting it into T/34-85 Model 1944 stats, as a Russian tank would head off any fighting over which school is being preferred.

“Fire!” The tank shakes as Nancy fires off the 76mm gun. Another precise hit on the target. You quickly rub your upper arms, shivering a bit as you look through the Commander’s periscope.

Nancy nudges your arm. “Here.” She hands you a thermos with some hot chocolate in it. “I planned ahead for this kind of situation.”

“Oh, you’re a lifesaver, Nancy,” you say. You take it and quickly pour yourself a cup. It tastes heavenly, and instantly your body feels like it’s rejuvenated and warm. “Alright, Ramirez, High Explosive.”

Ramirez rams an HE round into the breech, then Nancy recalibrates the sights. The other teams are busy firing off their rounds at the targets across the field, with some success.

“This snow sucks!” yells Janek.

You did have a hard time actually seeing the target past the sun and the reflected light, at least it’ll be sundown soon.

The Sherman was reserved for conversion into a M36 Jackson. Assigning the crew to an American tank could be taken as favoring Saunders and elicit some push-back from the other crewmembers. And if the point of the exchange is to provide them with a unique viewpoint, a tank of a type none of them have any familiarity with would be best.

Kitten rests her head on your lap, sleeping as you and your crew sit ontop of Cupid the Sherman. Nancy yawns a bit, sipping on some hot chocolate, while Lisa and Ramirez sit on the gun barrel, playing on their phones.

Nancy says, “As much as I respect Wendy for her experience, I don’t think all this working in the snow and the slush is really helping us.”

“Now, Nancy,” You say. “It is. Nobody ever said Tankery was easy.” You run your hand through Kitten’s hair, it’s surprisingly silky smooth. Kitten’s been using shampoo on her own lately. That’s a hell of a thing from August that’s for sure.

>Getting them a tank may be time sensitive, depending on when they arrive-before or after Pravda.

I'd suggest we get some orders in to Mishka, then. Especially since he'll have to start work on the Cromwell once it comes in. As far as getting the Exchange team into the match with Pravda, well, we do have the required 15 tanks and crews right now so we should probably focus on any upgrades that can be done in time and which would greatly improve the firepower or capabilities of our present tanks.

At the same time, we really want to save the Girl Scout freebies for expensive conversions or a last comp specced tank.

Not sure what the priorities should be here. Maybe a freebie getting the T/34-76 to T/34-57 standard, even if we can't get the Model 1944 armor and fittings. Or maybe the M4A4 into the Firefly as intended since the 17 pounder should go right through most of the Pravda tanks and be really helpful against the IS-2s. Possibly we might instead look to the Panzer IV and getting it in full late-war shape as an Ausf. G with Schurzen for the classic Ausf. H.

“Alright, alright,” you say. “Everyone, listen. I know we’re all wet and tired and exhausted. But it’s important to keep our bodies healthy and up to spec.

Everyone mutters a bit, a bit apprehensive.

“Come on,” you say. “It could be worse. You could be on Steuben.” Everyone perks up, laughing a bit at Friedrich von Steuben Military Academy’s expense. “There we go. Look, just keep your heads high, and we’ll get through this. I know Wendy can be a bit hard but that’s just her way, and she knows tanks better than I or any of you guys do.”

With that, everyone seems satisfied.

> - 5 CP
> MORALE DROP REVERSED

With that, you get into the classrooms, the heater turned to full. “Right,” says Wendy. “Lets get into studying Pravda. Now, does anyone have any questions?”

Samantha raises her hand. “Why is the IS-2 not good at tank combat?”

“Lot of reasons,” says Wendy. “The armor is thick, yeah, but you have to consider the gun. The 122mm has an excellent amount of firepower and velocity for its caliber. The problem lies in that its ammunition mostly consists of high-explosive rounds. The IS tank series was not designed to fight tanks, they’re breakthrough tanks, assault guns with turrets. They can be used to fight tanks, and they can do it, the problem lies in the fact that their guns take ages to load. Two piece ammunition, plus their HE shells aren’t all that great against heavy monsters like King Tigers or Tigers with competent crews behind them.”

She snaps her finger. “Anyway, let’s discuss the various tanks they’re using…”

[1/2]
>>
>>31917886

Depends if schteel will tell us the price immediately instead of having to wait till next week to see the price in the shop.
>>
>>31917987
[2/2]

With that, Wendy moves on to the Command Theory portion of Practice.

“Right, now most T-34s are lacking in what we call a cupola. The cupola is that little thing that allows you to see around through the slits. The late war 85s have cupolas, the early war ones don’t, instead they have to rely on slots and periscopes which can cause tunnel vision. Thus, it’s easy to sneak up on say a KV-1 or a T-34, but not easy to sneak up on an IS or a late war T-34.

“Now, most of your tanks have cupolas. It’s a very underrated advantage most tanks have, it allows you to see out without having to expose yourself or generate a bigger silhouette for your tank by turning out. That’s a very important thing in Tankery, situational awareness. If you’re not aware of your surroundings, a Hetzer could come up behind you, track you, and leave you in the dust repeatedly.”

Wendy leans on the desk, crossing her arms. “Right, any questions?” Silence. “No? Right, practice is over then.”

Everyone stands up and starts heading out, still a bit exhausted.

> - 5 MORALE ACROSS ALL CREWS

Nancy, Kitten, Ramirez, and Lisa walk up to you, sighing. Lisa says, “Boss, I think we’ve really gotten far in our training.”

“I agree!” says Nancy. “We really know our stuff now, and I believe that we can really show Pravda who’s boss!”

Kitten smiles, patting you on the shoulder. “Consider us Elite, Trudy.”

“Hey, where’s the manager here?” you say, placing your hands on the counter. The cashier calls for the manager, and he comes in. Huge man, white hair, usual BBQ restaurant stuff.

“Can I help you?” he asks.

You say, “I got a band who wants to play some music and wants to get paid doing it. You got a stage, and I was wondering if perhaps they might be able to play here like every so often for cash?”

The manager scratches his chin, skeptical. “What music they play?”

“Bluegrass.”

“YEEEEHAW!” All of you surprised by the Manager’s sudden southerness as he slaps his knee. “Fuckin’ A! Alright, give me their number, and I’ll give them a call! Woowheee!”

Well, that was interesting.

You return to your table to find Lisa on the phone. Nancy and Kitten are giggling while Lisa is simply blushing. “… yeah. Yeah, I had a nice time, Huxley… No you didn’t come across as awkward… Yes, I understand you spilling your lemonade on my shirt was accidental.”

“Yeah, Huxley. I know… Yes, I don’t mind, really. What I do mind is you being a fucking High School drop out!... yes I know you dropped out to support your mom… Yeah… Of course.”

You, Nancy, and Kitten try to scoot in to listen to what the hell Huxley is saying, but Lisa simply leans over, giving you all the glare that would put Death to shame.

“Yes, Huxley,” she says. “Yeah, I know. I’m sure it’s challenging work at the Shop but you get used to it I suppose. Yeah, yeah I’m free on Saturday I think. Mhm. Okay. Alright, see you Huxley.” Lisa hangs up, groaning in defeat, slamming her head on the table.

Nancy giggles like a schoolgirl. “Aaawwww!”

“Shut up, Nancy,” says Lisa she turns her head up, her chin resting on the table. She looks across right at Ramirez, who simply leans back and crosses her arms. “I know what you want to say, so go ahead and say it.”

Ramirez shrugs. “It’s not me in me to say I told you so. But I told you so.”

“Yeah, he was a perfect gentlemen, he paid for the dinner, he accidentally spilled his drink on me but he offered me his coat to cover it up too. Then he escorted me home. Not just that, we actually had things in common and he actually has a fairly good reason for being a High School dropout. He’s had to support his mom who got in a car wreck and can’t work, not to mention having to put his older brother through college too.” Lisa crosses her arms. “In short, he’s not the slacker I want to hate.”

You nod, smiling. “That’s good, he sounds like a decent guy.”

“But… dropouts…” mutters Lisa.

Ramirez says, “Just because someone drops their education does not mean they are immediately the target for your scorn. I should know, I saw that a lot growing up.”

Lisa buries her face in her hands. “God…”

You gesture over to them. “My staff, Nancy the VP, Lisa the Treasurer, Ramirez the Secretary, and Kitten the very best good friend. Locking up?”

Darius nods. “Yeah, just getting to be about that time. Another empty day as usual besides Charlotte and the occasional greasy neckbeard who can somehow afford to live on an Academyship you know?”

“Of course,” you say. “I wanted to talk sponsorship.”

“Oh, sure,” says Darius. “It’s simple. I need business. And I think I’ve got an idea on how to get that business. You see that parking lot across the street?” You all look over to the empty parking lot. “Car wash. People go to you, people come across the street to see the store, everyone wins.”

All of you look at him, skeptical. Lisa says, “In this weather?”

Darius nods, scratching his chin. “That could work. We can set something up this Sunday, that sound good?”

You say, “The hell is that thing, Nancy?”

You’re asking about that large coffee table looking thing in the center of her dorm. That certainly wasn’t there yesterday. Around the sides are a huge blanket.

“Oh, that’s the blanket-coffee-table-warmer thingamajiggy!” says Nancy happily. She skips over to it, then plugs a wire into the wall.

Ramirez says, “A kotatsu?”

“Yeah, that’s it!” says Nancy. “It’s supposed to be really warm and-“ She quickly scoots her legs underneath, and immediately sighs in bliss as she leans forward, resting her chin on the table. “Oh my goodness this feels WONDERFUL!”

You all shrug, then decide to settle yourselves into it and WOW THIS DOES FEEL WONDERFUL HOLY SHIT WHAT THE HELL.

Kitten lies back, curling her entire body underneath the table. “Fuck it, I’m sleeping here!”

“Kitten, how about you tell the story of how I earned my fearsome reputation?”

“Now, Middle School was tough, not just because the people who to Middle School are fucking monsters, but because the teachers don’t do a damn thing about anything, they don’t even defend kids when they’re getting beat up.” She pointed to you. “That’s where Trudy came in.”

Nancy says, “So you were a bully hunter?”

You shrug. “Of sorts. For Halloween, I dressed up as Captain America and beat up all the bitchy Hispanic chicks who thought it’d be funny to dump Eugene in a trashcan. Then I also hunted down some guys who thought it’d be funny to do mob assault on some gay guys, it was a mess. But someone had to do it.”

Kitten smiles. “Yeah, and she got suspended for it a lot. Never expelled though, because Trudy’s father always managed to argue the case against the school. The disciplinary record nearly washed her out of LGA though.”

“Of course,” you say. “There was that one time, Kitten.”

“Yeah, Trudy once saved me from a couple of gangsters who thought it’d be funny to lift my shirt up in the hallway. Bared my breasts to everyone, was an embarrassing moment.” Kitten laughed. “She threw them out the window.”

Nancy gasps. “Really?”

Lisa says, “Well, they didn’t get hurt that bad, right?”

Why sleep with one girl when we can sleep with many.

Because I think it might be her asking for company on her bed.

Sleeping half under something heated is a good way to catch a cold.

Not him, but that's the first thing I thought when it was suggested to sleep under this heater-table.

Are you voting for this because she sleeps in the nude?

> Sleep with Nancy

You quietly slip out of the kotatsu, then tiptoe over to Nancy’s bed. You silently lift up the covers, then slide in next to her. She turns over, surprised, then smiles at you.

“Gertrude!” she says quietly.

“Hey, you seemed lonely,” you say.

She giggles, shuts her eyes. “Thanks. The last time I ever slept next to someone like this was with my brother before he went off to college.”

You nod.

“There wasn’t any incest involved,” says Nancy quickly as she scoots in next to you.

“Oh, yeah, I was just-“ you shrug. “You know, seemed weird.”

“He and I are very close,” she says. “But irregardless. Goodnight, Gertrude.”

“Goodnight, Nancy.”

In Odessa, enjoying the sun.

What? Generals get vacations, and great generals get nice retirement homes in Odessa
