Previously, on Princes of the Earth...

Our protagonist, a nameless swordsman with a destiny bigger than he ever realized, was hunting a bounty on the head of the man known as Cannibal Hohei. The trail's almost a month cold, but you feel like you're starting to narrow in on him. You got directed to the lands of the Soaring Eagle Tribe by a deputy in the town of Silver March. A caravan carrying important goods to the Soaring Eagles got hit by Cannibal Hohei - a vicious monster of a man with a reputation for taking bites out of his victims - and they've been forced to resort to raiding the outskirts of Silver March to get the food and tools they need.

The Soaring Eagles haven't been able to tell you much so far - Hohei and his half-dozen men seemed to come from a general westerly direction, and took an entire yeddim with the wagons, which would have made them easy to track if the trail wasn't a month cold. One guard was killed, and two more seriously injured. You've just finished a conversation with one of the injured guards - recollecting what happened to him seemed to take a lot out of him, to put it lightly.

You're standing in a longhouse in the Soaring Eagle Tribe's town.

What do you do now?

Essence is equal parts Willpower and your Mana bar. Its chi points are used as your health in social combat, it can be spent to gain +1 die when rolling, and can be used for much larger effects if you learn special martial arts or are a Prince. Your chi pool is equal to your Essence as a mortal, or twice your Essence as a Prince.

Health is what keeps you from dying. Each point of health you lose gives you a cumulative -1 penalty, meaning that even the most skilled mortals have to spend chi to still have any dice at 1/4 health. At 0/4, you're incapacitated entirely. Life is unforgiving, and so is a sword through the gut for people who aren't larger than life.

Let's try to check the trail and the surrounding land. Maybe their hideout is somewhere nearby and we can find some traces of human activity around.

On a side note, I think I'm partial to becoming an Infernal to become the Atomic Samurai
>>

>>31887086
There is if he dramatically fails at something. That's all it takes - failure because you're a coward, or too arrogant, or any number of other personal flaws. We're already walking a narrow line between confidence and arrogance, for example.
>>

I was more talking about Atomic Samurai, who is just a really, really good swordsman.

Can we please just play it straight and not intentionally make weird decisions because you like one glow over another?
>>
>>31886857
Follow our month old lead. There's nothing to do but approach it boldly. Besides, a lone wanderer looks like easy prey to bandits like this. They might find us first.
>>
>>31886857
>>31886866
Ask to talk to the other survivor. The least we can get out of them is a better idea of how many people are on this gang. We will probably learn even more about this gang. So far, the survivors are our best lead.
Then try and talk to whoever is in charge of this tribe. They should be able to give us something to get us closer to cathing the cannibal. We can get the likely places a gang could hide at least, since they hunt around these parts. They want this guy captured as much as we do. Maybe we'll even get a guide.
>>
Everyone start rolling, it might start being relevant shortly.

You bid these people a good day. They've been pretty good help so far, and you imagine they want their goods back and these bandits dead even more than you do. You'll be happy to oblige - that's why you were out here in the first place, after all. You head back south down the road, to try to find where the raid happened based on their descriptions.

The sun's nearly setting as you find the place. It's rained in the past month, so it's hard to tell, but you find some unusual gouges in the road, some trees broken by something that looks yeddim-sized, and a few arrows, flint-tipped tribal ones whose fletchings are now badly damaged, stuck haphazardly around the area. Yeah, this is almost certainly where it happened, and the breakage caused by the yeddim looks like it might still be trackable, especially if they did any serious damage or dropped things on their way. It goes west-ish.

It's going to be dark soon, though.

What do you do?

>One success on the Priest roll for wilderness tracking.

You head a little to the east to set up camp, gathering enough dry wood as you go for a small campfire. You don't really have the time or light to get much in the way of food, but you still have a little of what you scrounged up for breakfast left. It's not much, but it's better than nothing, and you get to rest your feet and get some sleep.

You wake up with the dawn, as usual, stretching, putting back on your shoes, getting in a few practice swings on your sword. You're hungry - maybe you can get some fruit while you track. For now, though, it's light out, so you head back to the scene.

In the morning light, hitting the westward path from the east, it's even more obvious. Either these tribals are really shitty trackers, or they haven't been back here to check, or the trail gets harder to follow part-way through the woods.

You follow for a few miles when, sure enough, you hit the tracker's nightmare. A large open field, a broad, shallow stream cutting from north to south. You can see why they came this way - no trees to break, a stream to destroy scent trails and tracks. They may be cruel, but Cannibal Hohei appears to be good at picking out escape routes.
>>
>>31887527
You'll have to figure out a new plan for narrowing down where they went from here.

There's a small mountain, or large hill, a few miles to the south, that you can see. Wooded, with a sharp cliff on one side - ancient earthquake, less-ancient explosives? You don't know about any mines in the area, and there's not exactly a road going through here. The east is the woods where you came from. The west is the field with its stream - you might be able to get a drink there, maybe something washed downstream if they're upstream? And the north is towards the Soaring Eagle hunting grounds.

What's your next step?
>>
So why does he have a modern scope on what looks like a matchlock? Or is it just because the artist felt like it.

>Zero successes on the Night roll to spot something.

You head west, into the field, to the stream. Nothing unusual stands out to you, but it's nice to get a big drink of fresh water. The field looks clear, no signs of tents or other shelters, no trash along the stream bank. Coincidentally? The stream or field might have an easily-offended spirit, you make a mental note to not trash the place up too much while you're here, just on the off-chance.

It is, at this point, mid-morning, and you still haven't had anything to eat since some scant leftovers last night. You're well-hydrated now, at least. You could try to spear a rabbit, or track down some fruit and berries? Or maybe just keep trying to pick a trail back up. The hill looks like a good place to hide, but honestly, that's just guesswork based on where you might hold up.

>Two successes on the Priest roll to scrounge up some food.

You start poking around for food. Fields are a great place to find berry bushes, after all, and you're not disappointed. Scattered all over are small, broad-leafed bushes dangling with clusters of berries - the orange ones look ripe, the green ones probably less so. They're sweet, don't turn your stomach, so you spend the next hour or so picking and eating them when, much to your happy surprise, you happen across a rabbit doing the same.

You kill it but don't cook it yet - it'll hold for a few hours, and you don't want smoke to give you away if the bandits are close - and load up on some more berries later. It was a good find, all in all.

That done, you start heading south, along the river. You want to take a look at that hill, see if there's anything there. Right about when you hit the tree line, though, you happen across something interesting. A wooden arch, made of two upright wooden logs and a third across the top of the two, covered in crude, weather-worn carvings. The whole thing is drowning in ivy. Looks like some kind of tribal shrine arch that's been left unattended for years, at the very least. If the bandits are in the area, they either didn't care to clear it, or didn't want to risk drawing attention.

Continue on? Clear the arch? Steer clear of any of that divine bullshit? Turn around?

>One success on the Priest roll to properly deal with the shrine arch.

You clear the ivy - by hand so you don't muck up the carvings with your sword - until it's all revealed. The vertical poles are totem poles, of a sort. Animal totems on one side, with hare at the bottom an eagle with spread wings on top - a Soaring Eagle, perhaps? - and predators in the middle. The other has depictions of fruits, leaves... It's hunting and gathering. The beam across the top, that makes the arch, has sun and moon motifs - the cycles of the moon, the different stages of the sun.

This must have been a tribal shrine sometime in the past - long enough for it to be overgrown, but recent enough to not have rotted away. Not to a single god, at least. Not as much risk of pissing off something powerful that way. You bid a forlorn goodbye to your lucky rabbit, placing it at the base of the hunters' pole, and one of the bunches of berries at the base of the gatherer pole, speaking a word of thanks and request for good hunting as you do. It hurts to part with food like that, but the local spirits might get offended without the offering, and might offer boons with a clean shrine and some sacrifice.

And you can always use an easier time hunting - bounties and game.

That didn't take too long - it's still not noon yet.

>Four successes on a Criminal roll to notice stuff and sneak.

You set off into the wooded hill along the stream. It could easily just be your imagination, but after that little sacrifice, you feel lighter, quieter, more alert - like a proper hunter. If it's a blessing by spirit's, you're grateful for it, at any rate, because you quickly spot something in the stream. Two somethings, really.

First, an animal bone, clean, a little burnt - refuse from a human's meal - floating down the stream. The knucklebone of a yeddim, maybe? There are people upstream somewhere. You made the right choice on where to go after all. And second, a little fleck of something in the water, something with a dull glint to it. You reach in and pull it out, finding yourself with a knobbly gold nugget. It's absolutely tiny - you're surprised you even spotted it - but it can only mean one thing.

There's gold in these hills.

You keep going on up the hill, following the stream, until you hear voices up ahead. You slip into the brush, quick as a shadow and quiet as the night, and peer out. There's a small camp at the mouth of the spring that feeds this stream. A circle of covered wagons, a heap of bones, some dried meat hanging from the trees. Two men, one short and solid, the other skinny and a little twitchy, leaning against a wagon and chatting. You can't see or hear anyone else, but the wagon might be in the way.

You've found the bandit camp.

Not as much, actually, since there's a 1 in 10 chance of getting 2 successes on a single die and then a one in 3 (roughly) chance of getting any success on a die. 4 on 3 is not anywhere near as outrageous as 0 in 7.
>>
>>31889382
If you roll a billion dies, then you'll get pretty close to that perfect 50%. With 3-4 rolls, anythng is probable.
Fun advice: dont go around making math fun facts if you don't have basic probability knowledge.
>>
You settle in, deciding to wait it out. You're good, but you're not fight-a-half-dozen-guys-at-once good. You want to try to pick some of them off on their own first. You wish you had a better vantage point, but at least you settled into somewhere nice and concealed already.

And so you wait. And wait. You'd be a lot more board if your heart wasn't pounding in your ears, your hand hovering near your sword's hilt. Every second is tense, because you feel like you could get spotted at any moment.

But as you watch, you see one, two, three more men walking to and from the stream, the camp, the woods. They don't seem to be doing much of anything, just eating, chatting about inane bullshit, having snacks. Then, from past the wagons, where you can't see, out walks Hohei himself. A mountain of a man - a head taller than you at least, teeth filed and sharpened to points, bronze gauntlets that go all the way to his shoulders, the finger tips ending in nasty-looking hooks. Tattoos all over his chest, back, and face.

He looks dangerous - he looks like a beast. You imagine that's intentional. If he's as dangerous as he looks, he might even be an even match for you in a fair fight, and that's without his goon squad. You'll have to make sure it's not fair if you prize success over honor.

He hefts a pouch in his hand, grinning big, and tosses it to the ground in front of the men, nuggets and gold powder spilling out.

"We have hit it big!" he proclaims proudly.

You wait, hoping and betting on them celebrating their big score, getting drunk, passing out - giving you a lot of unconscious bandits and only one or two partially-addled men to deal with. Your decision pays off. They break out some ceramic jars of green, medicinal-looking liquor from the stolen wagons and get to celebrating.

You manage to pick up, from their conversations and celebrations, that the reason they're here is that there's an old gold mine in the area. It got abandoned years ago, when some hostile elements passed through the area, chasing the Soaring Eagles out of the hunting grounds and the prospectors off to a less-risky endeavor. That was long enough ago that nobody really noticed the area was safe again - nobody wanted to come and check, for fear of getting electroctuted, or the air sucked out of their lungs, or worse. That was more than two decades ago.

Hohei got word of it off a prospector he served some time with before breaking out of a jail. Came to the area to check out out, found it free and open to try to get more gold. Not being a properly enterprising man with respectable connections, he got together a gang to do the mining and knocked over a caravan for supplies. Which leads you to right now - they just hit their first major vein since coming here, gathered enough to fill a small pouch, and more to come.

(Continued)
>>
>>31889841
By the time the sun sets, most of them are passed out, except Hohei, who's drunk and nursing a jar, but still awake and sitting by the fire, his back to you, and one other. That one other has just stumbled on over to the bushes where you're hiding, exposing himself, probably to take a piss. You could try to sneak off, or 'weather the storm,' but honestly, this seems like it could be the best chance you're going to get. If you manage to take this guy out without him raising a fuss, you might be able to get Hohei too, and then it's just unconscious drunks.

The strike lands true, but wasn't angled quite right. It hits collar bone instead of going cleanly through, blood goes everywhere, and as you hop back, sword raised in a guard, Hohei lurches to his feet, blood going everywhere as he gives a gurgled scream. How the fuck is that guy still standing after that? Something's wrong, even if the strike wasn't perfect, he should still be on the ground, bleeding to death.

His men start stirring awake - you've got at least a few seconds before they enter the fray - and he gives a clumsy lunge, trying to tackle you. In his hook-clawed, sharp-toothed grasp is the last place you want to be right now, though.

Tell me what action you now want to take, and roll Criminal to dodge.

You duck under his arms - he's clumsy from the surprise and the drink, and your nerves are through the roof right now - and use the momentum of his tackle and you standing back up to slide your sword right through his middle. His momentum carries him back off again, rolling over you and landing, hard and limp, on the ground behind you. You think he's probably down for the count this time. Anticlimactic - just the way you like it.

His men, though, are on their feet now, and pile into attacking you before you can return the favor, swinging with knives and hatchets. You manage to dodge and parry most of them, but take a nasty slice across your chest. It hurts, but you'll live, as long as you don't get too many more follow-ups like that. Five drunk mooks? The only way they're going to kill you is with lucky shots, but in the time that it'll take you to kill all five of them, they might get more than a few of those.

You slice one in the arm, causing him to reel back - he'll be recovering for the next few seconds, he's clearly not used to getting cut - and yell at the others. "Now, all y'all better run off!" you shout. "You get to leave with your lives - that should be good enough. Don't end up like Hohei."

Their reaction is unsettling - just laughter. You think you can guess what they're laughing about - you just cut down the number of ways they have to split the money, and took out Hohei, who was probably a scary enough motherfucker they've been wanting to do it for a while. You just solved their mutiny situation, and are hurting enough that they think they can gang up on you - as long as they live, they can hire some more men to get the gold out of the mine.

They all attack you again, someone getting a lucky chop in with a hatchet - lucky for them, in that they hit you, and lucky for you in that it glanced off your skull instead of taking off an ear or splitting your head open.

You bolt. You're seriously hurt - it'll take weeks to bounce back from these injuries. There's absolutely no way you can keep fighting them like this. Even drunk, they have enough numbers that they'll just overwhelm you that way. After running for a few minutes, you're pretty sure you've lost them. You can't hear them following, anyway.

You're not sure where to go from there, though. It'll take you weeks to heal up from this, and by then, they'll have brought in a ton more bandits to make a big payday. And in that time, the Soaring Eagles will keep needing to raid, might even clash with Silver March.

Whatever you decide now, it could spell the future for both of these towns for years to come - maybe the entire region.

One way or another, you're the only one leaving this mountain alive, you've decided. You're in no shape to face anyone head on, but with patience and guile, you're pretty sure you can pick them off one by one. This bounty might take longer than you had originally intended, but it ain't over until it's over.

At the moment, you're bleeding, which could prove problematic if it doesn't close on its own. You're also in an inordinate amount of pain from the blow to your chest and head. If you don't solve at least one of those problems, there's a good chance you won't survive the entire night. You can think of a few options, and maybe a few beyond that, for how to stabilize yourself.

>Rest. Trust in your body's natural recuperative abilities. Find somewhere safe to tuck yourself and stop moving so your wounds can clot and you can get started on recovery.
>Numb. You need to numb some of the pain to let you work. Some of that booze they've got at the camp would be great for the pain and for cleaning the wound, but that doesn't seem like an option just yet. Maybe you can find some herbs foraging?
>First Aid. You were never too good at it, and your hands won't stop shaking, but if you get something to numb the pain and rest enough to focus (rest enough to regain some chi) you think you might be able to turn your shirt into some bandages.

You manage to find some leaves scrounging around in the woods at night that, you know from personal experience, are poisonous. You tried making tea out of them once and, well, you couldn't keep food down for a while. You're not eating them this time, though, you're using them for what else they did - completely numb your fingers while you were making the tea. You shred the things into pulp and paste them on your chest and head.

That done, you take a bit of a breather to get your focus back. You finish off your berries, relax, and, when you're ready, get to work shredding your shirt for bandages. Unfortunately, as you discover when you go to tie them on, your fingers got numbed again. You can't tie the bandages on.

All of that done, you pray. You pray to the nameless goddess of justice, to the sun, moon, and spirits on the arch downstream. You pray for the tenacity, skill, and blessings necessary to see this through to completion. You pray - the first truly honest prayer you've had in a long time.

And then, finally, you get yourself in a hollow in the ground, cover yourselves with leaves, clutch your sword tight, and rest.

You wake with dawn, as always. That's a good sign - it means you didn't bleed to death in the night. You might die of an infection before the week is through, though. No knowing what's in your cuts at this point - you would REALLY love some of that medicinal alcohol right now. The pain's back, but you dull it out with some more of the paste you shredded last night - no real risk of getting your fingers numbed up again.

What's the first order of business for today? You still have those makeshift bandages, if you wanted to try to doctor yourself up again. You might be able to catch one of the bandits taking their morning piss. You're hungry as hell. You really want some of that booze up on the hill.

There's a lot of ways you could go from here.

You try to scope out the bandit camp again, see if you can catch someone with his pants down or nab a bottle of booze, but the bandits are sober-ish and on guard today. You're spotted before you can get properly close, and you have to book it before they can catch up to you. They stop giving chase pretty quickly - you're guessing they don't want to get lured into an ambush, in case you set traps in the trees or something. You did notice that the guy you sliced last night has his arm in a sling, and they were in the process of digging two shallow graves.

What's the new plan?

You haven't been any further up the mountain than the bandit camp, so you don't know one way or the other.

Nope. There's metal hatchets somewhere in the camp, but all you've got is a shitty sword.

You spend a healthy chunk of the day exploring the hill to try to figure the place out better. You find a lot of things. Up near the top of the hill is a clearing; no convenient rocks to roll down at the camp, sadly. A quarter of the way around the hill clockwise from the camp is the entrance to a mine. That's probably where they're getting the gold from.

Aside from that, it's just trackless woods.

You're starting to get pretty damn hungry now, though. You also still have your bandages prepared.

You have a lot of lofty plans for your afternoon, but between lacking materials for traps and being to wet and sweaty to put on some proper bandages, all you end up getting done is putting food in your belly. Still, that alone makes you feel better.

By the time it hits late afternoon, something's changed. You hear the bandits stomping through the woods and shouting - trying to lure you out for a fight? If they are, they've probably left their camp relatively unguarded. If they have, you might be able to get some of that alcohol - if anyone's still at the camp, you might be able to dispatch them without getting ganged up on too.

Then again, this might be the setup to some kind of elaborate trap.

Do you risk sneaking around the search party to try to raid the camp? Try to pick one or more of the search party off with hit and run sneak attacks? Hunker down and try not to get found?

Something else?

You make your way quick and quiet around the shouting buffoons back to their camp, hoping to poke around, steal some stuff, maybe kill a man or two. When you get there, and into a good vantage point uphill, you see the two men you've already killed laid out dead and two men standing guard. One's the guy you caught in the arm yesterday - he's sweating, looking a little pale. Probably infected; your sword is, after all, a little chipped and a little rusty. You certainly wouldn't want to get hit by it.

They seem relatively alert - or, well, the one with the fever does. If you move quick, you think you could take out the healthy one. The injured one shouldn't be too much trouble after that. The question's whether to risk it - one more solid hit and you're probably going to have to drag yourself back to the Soaring Eagles camp on all fours.

What's the plan? Hit hard and fast? Hit sneaky and careful? Fall back and wait for a better opportunity? Just make a beeline for one of those jars of alcohol and run?

What do you do?

You come blazing in hard and fast, wanting to use the surprise to your fullest advantage, laying a huge slice in across the healthy one's back and neck. He screams and drops to the ground in pain and surprise as the injured one whirls towards you, a shaky hand going for his weapon. It's his offhand - you hurt his main arm. Between that, the fear, and the fever, you don't think there's too much to worry about from him, but your guard is up. The man you attacked goes stumbling up and away from you, ripping his knife from its sheath with a pained motion.

Now's the time to press your advantage or run off and hope an infection starts killing the second one too. You could try to kill the both - focus on the more-threatening one, maybe. You could try to intimidate them into fleeing - but then they might come back with reinforcements to properly secure the mine. You could leave, satisfied with the one surprise attack instead of fighting fair. You could try to grab something and bolt.

You could do something else.

You decide to press your luck - you don't think you're going to get a better chance to take out two mooks at once, nor a better shot at raiding the camp. One high slice and the recently-injured guy goes down, drowning on his own blood. It's not a dignified way to die but, in the end, what is? The other guy takes a panicked swing at you, but it doesn't even meet your parry - he's at least three inches short of even hitting you.

You can see the fear in his eyes. He knows he's looking at death itself, come knocking on his door. By the same token, you know that letting him run stands a good chance of drawing reinforcements to this battle, and that letting him stick around leaves one more coward to land a lucky blow.

Do you go pragmatic and finish him off, or do you give him a reckless amount of mercy?

You run him through, quick and clean. Well, quicker and cleaner than dying of that infection would have been - and a whole hell of a lot quicker and cleaner than Hohei would have done to you. He hits the ground with surprise and fear on his face.

You get to looting almost immediately. A hatchet of good bronze, a hunting bow and a half dozen arrows, a few jars of that liquor, as much of the dried yeddim meat as you can carry without slowing yourself down. >>
You leg it out of there. You want to be properly bandaged, disinfected, and putting an arrow through someone's eye in the middle of the night before you go back to that camp. You find a relatively sheltered crook of the stream and get to scrubbing out your wounds and disinfecting them. You swear, this hurts more than getting cut in the first place - maybe because you're not all worked up - but when you're done, you dry up, tie on bandages slathered with a poultice of those numbing herbs and booze around your chest, and head to keep from getting dirty again instead of to try to stop bleeding, and feel pretty done.

You help yourself to a good-sized meal of that dried meat while you're at it, and a swig of the booze to help with the pain - not enough to addle your reaction or senses, though.

By now, it's only an hour or two before sunset, by your reckoning. It's been hours since you heard those idiots stomping around and shouting. Probably went back to camp and found two more corpses - only three to go. You hope they haven't tried to make a break for it yet; it would be a bitch trying to track them down before they can make it back to civilization.

What do you do now? Try to get some rest tonight now that you're finally bandaged up? Try to hit them at night now that you have a bow and a good hatchet? Spend the night constructing traps in the woods or mine?

You want to end this tonight, if you can. It had gone on too long before you ever even got yourself involved. You make your way back to the camp - you're becoming increasingly proficient at finding this place, with how many times you've visited it. When you get into good view of the place, you see the three survivors, huddled up around the camp fire, staring out away from it, all in different directions. They're terrified that you're going to come for them tonight, you realize, like a monster lurking in the dark.

But that also means they're alert. A single snapped twig, and all eyes are on you. They charge almost immediately, drawing weapons and desperate to put you down before you can them. There's still some good distance between you, though. You can probably get off one shot - maybe two - before they close the gap. Or, you could turn and run - or do something trickier.

You bring your other hand up with the hatchet - he deserves to die with at least a little hope, instead of seeing it coming. One hard chop to the neck is all it takes, and he hits the ground hard. He's dead before his body's settled.

And there you are, standing in the night, a fire blazing in front of you, the full moon coming out from behind the clouds, breathing hard. You feel heat on your chest - you reopened your wound with the fighting, but that was to be expected, really. In spite of that, you feel... more. More alive, more powerful, more healthy, than you have in a long time. It's probably just the high of victory.

And then you hear slow, almost sarcastic clapping, and a woman steps out of nowhere in front of you, like she had been there the whole time and you just never noticed. She's beyond pale, and radiant in the moonlight. Delicate, until you notice her pointed teeth, sharp nails, and eyes like... You'll have nightmares about those eyes, you can already tell.

"Well done," she says. The praise almost sounds like a threat in that voice.

The decision to tackle a likely-deadly problem with tenacity, guile, grit, and an unyielding determination to not only survive, but succeed - and then actually surviving and succeeding. Going that route locked out Solar, and made Sidereal unlikely. If you had died, you would have gotten Abyssal. Over-reached, chickened out, or what have you, and you would have ended up Infernal.

>>
Here's the quest archive. It's got the first two episodes up.

I'll try to stick around to answer any additional questions, but I'm less than an hour away from crashing, and since the thread's in autosage, I won't be back in this thread after that. Ask questions if you've got 'em.

>Going that route locked out Solar
What about it locked out Solar, out of curiosity?
>>
>>31901898
Well, I'm happy with these results. I'm a little curious how much chimaerism we'll manage to pick up before the Silver Pact finds us.
>>
It occurs to me that as a Lunar, if we get a Moonsilver Daiklaive we can have it shift between all the various weapons that people wanted him to have last thread.
>>
>>31901905
In lazy, inaccurate terms? Not throwing enough caution to the wind. You went the longer-term route that emphasized grit and trickery to succeed and survive above all else. That still has the chance to be other solaroids by fucking up in different ways, but it lacks the singularly grand act normally expected of a Solar exaltation.
>>
>>31901513
So we're a Lunar and we're terrified of our new mom.

Interesting.
>>
>>31901959
Ah, fair enough. The "making sure you succeed" part sounded like it could have been Solar to me, but it's true we didn't have any individual "FUCK OFF I'M A BADASS" moments.
>>
>>31901951
In my version of Qwixalted, the moonsilver material bonus is all about being able to shift the weapon fluidly into different weapons actually, yes. A spear that flexes and snaps like a whip, then wraps around to become a bow - that kind of thing. A lot more interesting than numerical bonuses.

>>31901990
Any sane Lunar fears the Argent Madonna as much as they love her. Anyone who's seen her and doesn't is mad, a fool, or both.
>>
>>31902032
Nice, are we gonna get to pick our spirit totem next session or do you have something planned for that?
>>
>>31902071
Next session, yes.
>>
>>31902032
Some of her manifestations are loving and nonthreatening. The pregnant one comes to mind.

She's a scary lady in general, though, yeah.
>>
It occurs to me that our Destiny has some REALLY WORRYING IMPLICATIONS now that we're a Lunar.

Get close to someone powerful and betray them?

Now what could possibly be worrying about that?
>>
>>31902291
Were in the South right?
>>
>>31902291
I'm just hoping our bonded Solar mate isn't an Abyssal or Infernal.
>>
>>31902291
To be fair, "get close to someone powerful" could mean "find our Solar mate" and then "betray them" could just be "find out that s/he's an asshole and decide 'fuck them'."

I was still really hoping for Sidereal, with a Destiny like that.
>>
>>31902319
The East. The near East. The Scavenger Lands.
>>
>>31902341
I dunno, man, having an Infernal mate might be more interesting than the typical Solar pair up.

And hey, if its a Renegade Abyssal, I bet they'd revel in the opportunity to actually be nice to someone without there being a chance of an edgyoverload killing them.
>>
>>31902138
>>31902291
Fingers crossed that our Solar mate is the Righteous Devil and our Solar/Lunar bond Intimacy takes the form of glorious rivalry slash partnership

Scavenger Lands, actually, the 'Near East.' Hence ronin cowboys instead of gunslingers. About 200 miles north of the Yellow River, about 500 miles upstream from Great Forks.

...Creation is fuckhuge.
>>
>>31902393
>The nameless cowboy and the nameless ronin travelling Creation, righting wrongs, dispensing justice, arguing whether swords or guns are superior

No reason we can't spend the rest of the thread coming up with totem ideas. Since our dude is cunning, tenacious, and a little vicious I'm gonna nominate the Raptor Cat out of Compass East. Thing is wicked cool.

>RAPTOR CAT
>The poorly named raptor cat looks vaguely feline, but camouflage-pattern green scales cover its body. This animal waits in trees and attacks anything smaller than a tyrant lizard, as long as it has the element of surprise.
>A full-grown raptor cat extends eight feet from nose to tail, and can kill a man with a single blow. The beast’s jaw unhinges like that of a snake, so it can swallow creatures almost as big as itself. Raptor cats also sometimes toy with crippled prey, giving them a frightful reputation for cruelty.

While cool, isn't it a bit too brutal for Scruffy? He's certainly not nice but seems to be a fundamentally good person
>>
>>31903530
Yup, either hound or

>TREE PARD
>Although some Haltans prefer pet giant wolf spiders, the tree pard is the single most com-mon companion for Haltan scouts, hunt-ers, commandos and traders. These gray and black leopard-sized cats weigh almost as much as
a person and are extremely well adapted for life in the trees. Several ata-tree pards are decorated military heroes. Haltans regard both normal and san-tree pards with the same affection that other humans reserve for extremely bright and reliable breeds of dogs.
And yeah, I know, Halta sucks. But I assume these things live elsewhere too

na not a hound, he's to willful and independent for that, though TREE PARD sounds good to.
