You are Shax Bonemurder, Raid Leader! You just led a raid on a giant temple. You're not sure why, but all the worshippers in it were apparently fake? Some sort of conspiracy! At the top of the place, the ritual you were sent to stop had some kind of coffin with a doll boy in it. This doll boy is currently being hefted by Fetidclaw as you get the heck out of the temple.

Oh, right. Most of Utalaga is now on fire, too. No loss there.

Big rainclouds have gathered above head, and the smoke from various forest fires is kinda making your eyes water. Oh well. You've got a couple of options:

>You can explore Utalaga a little. You know there is a major city not too far away, and you could probably find our more info on the throne of blood and just what the heck is going on in this country that way.

>Let's get all the altars! At least the ones we know of. Let's go to the next one on the map. It is near the border of another country, but it isn't too far away, and more or less on the way back.

>This continent sucks. Let's go home! We got business to take care of back there.

>SPECIAL OPTION - Use the Character Point to generate a random party member! You'll encounter them and a plot hook involving them.

> ) RISING METEOR'S FINAL JUDGEMENT PENANCE SLASH - The power of your comrades, lost and present encourage your every move. You are the boss. You decide fate on the battlefield. Only you can wield this colossal blade for the justice you believe in! - Requires 8 points in this tree to be purchased.

We're probably going to get the sword saint tree next level up but I just thought I'd point out we've got enough skills to purchase the super move now.
>>
Looking back at the smoking mess of Utalaga, you can't help but wonder what the heck was up with this place? Weird zombie masses, chained up blood monsters, gold and illusions everywhere? Well, whatever. It ain't your country, no matter how crazy it is. Time to move on.

"Hey Fetid, it's time to move to the next altar! Where'd you say the closest one was, anyway?" It's best to leave the raging fires and questions behind you.

The orc woman has a map in one hand and a doll boy over her shoulder in the other. "If that lizard guy's map is to be trusted, and there is no reason it shouldn't be as far as I can tell, it's probably about two or three days in this direction." That's not so bad.

"Is this country super small or somethin'?" It is pretty weird that you're able to get around so quick over here.

Brokagh shrugs and answer for Fetid, "I think this is just a smaller country. They exist. If they had a bunch of those zombie hulks in their military, I can see why. Necromancy appears to be the name of the game in conflicts over here." What a bunch of weirdos.

It's slow going for several hours, and the sun starts setting. You'd think the stars would be harder to see from all the smoke, but they shine clearly in the night sky.

Suddenly, a loud crash is heard. Charging towards your party are three humongous grey humanoids, clad in loinclothes, sashes glittering with golden coins, and each with a golden mask bearing the likeness of a different animal. The monster with the leopard mask holds in his hands a shotel, the cobra mask holds a three tailed whip, the ends of which hold wicked looking barbs, and the final hulking creature has the mask of a hound, and holds in its hands a savage crescent bladed axe.

Standing behind them is a young woman with a feathered headdress, and in her hands a massive bronze hexagonal club, whose panels are studded with gold. "Heretics! In the name of the Blood Queen Venica, I demand your lives and the surrender of the god vessel!"

>There are two stars of calamity! Among the three stars that control fate, the star of destiny shines brightest! When two Oversized Weapon Users meet, these stars will glow with a fiercesome might!

Oh jeez, they must have expected you'd be leaving for the border. What's the plan boss?

"Bearbreath!" You shout, as the three oversized humans rush at you. The most valuable minion seems to know what you're thinking, and starts chanting as your party disperses to avoid the giants. Moments later, vines lance out in all directions in an attempt to bind them.

The headdress girl slams the tip of her club into the ground, and from it cracks shoot out, releasing scrabbling clawed hands that grasp at the feet of you and your companions, tripping you up. She lifts up a tanned hand, and the war paint on her face glows a bright red. Three red hooks shoot out into the backs of her servants. Their muscles bulge grotesquely, and they snap out of the vines. Oh, crap. she's trouble. Time to deal with her!

You dash towards the girl with feathers in her hair, smashing various trees and exposed roots out of the way. "Allonces! Try to tie them up!" The sound of someone crying out in pain is heard behind you.

"What?! All of them?" Despite her protests, you hear the distinctly ghostly noise of chains clanking about as you close the distance to the club-wielding girl, as your minions fight it out behind you.

A red mist spreads out from beneath her, and your lungs start to burn. She's tricky!

You take a half step back out of the mist, and take a deep breath. You can breathe underwater! This won't be a big deal. You ready your weapon, and start a spinning charge. At the very least this should disperse the mist! Something grabs your ankle and you go sprawling to the ground, landing roughly on the ground. It's more of those lame hands! With a growl, you take out your holy sword and cut them up, as they try to hold you to the ground.

As you start to go up, a sharp pain enters your back and you hear a loud cracking sound. With a groan you roll over, feeling weird bumps on your back. They're like... silty barnacles? You wonder how much of the blow they absorbed.

>You're down two Tidal Points!

You hop back up on your feet. And ready your weapon just in time to catch another savage blow with a clang. Your breath hisses in between your teeth before you realize you're still in that dumb red mist. Choking back a cough, you try to get your bearings. The girl is back on, taking a wild overhead swing. You gotta take her out, and fast! But how are you going to regain your momentum? You can barely defended against her magic and clubbing.

Something moves in the corner of your eye. It's the giant with the axe! You narrowly avoid his attack as well. Oh, great. It's two on one. What the heck are your allies doing?

You're going to need back up. And you know just where to get it. You bring your oversized sword down in front of you like a shield, and reach into a pouch for an astral pearl with your free hand. You think about those cute turtles as you start to spin, until the pearl glows. You toss the pearl upward, and it leaves a glimmering trail of dust as it arcs into the air. An axe blow comes sweeping in at your legs, and you knock the blade into the ground, coming back around on the swing to cut an arm off the grey giant.

Roaring, it rears back, pulling the axe out of the ground with some effort. Bursting from the ground, a large tutle takes a rough bite into the side of the giant, and then bowls him over. Another turtle comes out of the ground near where he lands, and bites the head of the giant clean off. Gross.

Two more shelled defenders pop out of the ground on either side of you. Oh good, they are pretty fast at showing up, huh? The club girl clicks her tongue and backs up, holding one hand out and sending two red whips to the side again. Moments later, the grey giants are drug through the air to her. She's called her buddies back! Still, five versus three, with your minions on the way? You like these odds. The two giants flanking the feathered girl get into defensive positions.

>Hop onto a turtles back. Ride it and charge at their defensive formation! Take her out before she gets into any more mischief.

Oh man. It is like a dream come true. You've always wanted to do this. You scramble on to a turtle's head and quickly crawl onto its back. You barely manage to keep yourself from collapsing into a giggling heep, settling instead to just titter maniacally as you position yourself on top of the turtle shell. You level your sword at the girl with the club, and shout, "Chaaaaaaarge!" At the top of your lungs.

The lumbering turtles start moving forward, a little slow but still pretty quick, at the giant guards and their headdress girl. The turtle you're riding is behind a spear head of three other turtles, and the giants attempt a counter charge, lest they just be overrun. Two turtles dogpile one giant, bearing it to the ground and ripping it to shreads. The other turtle and the whip giant struggle with each other, but you keep the charge straight at the club girl.

The scrabbling claws on the ground do little to impede the charge, and your crystalline mount cares little for her choking fumes. She seems to realize her typical defenses are no good, readies her club and does a jumping swing at your mount, landing a solid blow on its head and sending a lattice of cracks through it.

wow! what a jerk. Your turtle snaps back, grabbing her club in its mouth with a lightning fast motion. That's what she gets. She struggles with it for a moment, before you leap off your loyal turtle mount's back, landing with a wide swing at the girl's legs.

She lets go of her club, and dances back to avoid you. She's unarmed now, though. Shouldn't be too much trouble! You circle each other for a bit, her backing up when you advance, when Brokagh sneaks up behind her and chops her right in the neck, felling the girl. Well. That works.

>Finish her off. She ain't worth the trouble.

Immediaetly you assess the damage done to your team. Allonces looks pretty hurt, and Sitri has welts all over her. "Haha, that whip guy was on me something fierce." She scratches her head, with an apologetic smile on her face. Bearbreath is fine, obviously, and Brokagh seems to be doing okay.

"Yeah, I wasn't even sure how to approach these guys. Their arms are bigger than my chest," He thumps his bare chest a couple of times for emphasis, "And it is pretty big." You would describe him as broad.

Fetidclaw is doing fine. "Being an archer has it's benefits, even if arrows do jackshit and fuck all to those things." That language. For some reason everyone gives him a disapproving look.

Still, you've got a problem here. This lady is down for the count but she is major trouble. A powerful necromancer, with all kinds of debuffs. Who knows what sort of awesome summons she had. Maybe she could have even made those giants. But hey, she lost and you won. And there isn't much reason to let her live to keep harassing you.

Allonces glances at you, "So, what are you planning for her? Gonna interrogate her?" She leans in close and whispers, "Having been on the receving end, you aren't very good at it." Hey! That's uncalled for. Without any further thought, you pick up your sword and bring it down on the headdress girl.

>A star flickers out in the night sky.

That takes care of that.

Sitri rubs her chin looking at the club. "Hmm. This tetsubo might be enchanted. Wanna take it with you?"

You shrug, "Who can carry it anyway?"

"Can't you carry a bunch of stuff?" You give her a look, "Not saying you're a pack mule! Just pointing it out." You could. Might as well, you guess. you take the big club and put it on your back.

It's time to keep heading to the altar! A few uneventful days pass on your trip there, and it seems like most of the fires in Utalaga have died down. Fetid assure you that you're in the right spot, and there is a small temple here. It looks like it has been worn down recently.

You drink from the chalice and glance around. This place looks clean. alright. Time to eat. You pick up an apple from the plate. It has a wire attached to it and pulling it shuts the doors of the temple behind you. Lights turn on all over the place, in big bright glaring beams.

A trap!

Nothing is happening, though. You tentively take a bite from the apple. A familiar feeling of falling through space and an explosion of light from inside your mind happens. When your vision clears, you're in some sort of library. There are lamps everywhere, and they are all giving you some sorta awful glare.

Who would design a library like this.

An old woman hobbles over to you. "Greetings, aspirant, to the Glaring Archives. Please wait here while I find the master of this place." She motions to a seat. Well, no reason to be rude. You look at the books. Everything has foiled titles and the light makes it freaking impossible to see what they are. Is this some kind of hell or something?

You pull one out and flip through it. You have to get into a weird angle in a chair to be able to read and it is super uncomfortable, but you manage it. It's slow going but it appears to be some sort of fairy tale. It is about a young elf girl and her being saved by a dragon. The dragon raises her and then eats her. The girl then cuts her way out of the dragons stomach, because the dragon ate the only weapon that could kill her earlier to prevent anyone from getting it. What a stupid story. If you had the only thing that could kill you, you would just use it as a weapon. Then you'd probably just fall on it or something dumb in a dramatic twist. Fairy tales are stupid. You shut the book, and look at the clock on the wall.

Two hours have passed.

Good lord.

"I've brought the master as I said I would, aspirant." You fall out of your chair at the sound of her voice. Rubbing your backside, you stand up.
>>
A weird looking person is standing there. It looks sort of like a golem, all metal and wood. "Hello." It waves at you.

"Hi, I'm Shax. What the heck are you?"

The old woman interjects, "The master of this place."

"Oh, I'm supposed to beat you up, then?"

The golem thing shakes its head, "Nah, you can have it. I was waiting for someone to come along to take it."

"Eh? Why?"

The golem looks at the ceiling, "I've been taking care of this place for a very long time. But I couldn't let the plane revert to its natural state. I wanted to hand it off to someone. Say, if I let you have control, will you promise to not change the library?"

"I dunno if I can help that."

Twin glass eyes fix on yours, "If you promise now, it will stay."

So if this place will become our study, is the other place our foyer? Can we get an aquarium bedroom at some point?
>>
>>31852034
Yeah, all that light + the foiled titles is just plain stupid.
>>
I don't mind keeping a library but the set up is pretty lame. We should have at least pointed out how stupid it is.

Eh, maybe the old lady has some way of knowing where the books are. She's probably magic like that.
>>
>>31852034
Question Chief, can we change it to another watery home at a later time?
>>
>>31852189
We could just make it a watery library. We don't know what specifically he doesn't want us to change.
>>
>>31852034
Ask if we can personalize it and make it ours.
>>
>>31852034
...why did I have to get here late. We could at least have negotiated turni down the blinding lights!

>>31852206
I would be very happy with a watery library, I take back >>31852189
.
>>
>>31852189
>>31852206
Why does it need to be watery?

Sea mom is cool and all but I don't see why Shax needs to flood everything because she's her blade. Besides, our glowing crystal/moss cave has watery stuff going on. Let's have a little variety with our domains.

Turn down the lights and get rid of the foil on the covers and this place is fine as is.
>>
>>31852037
>>31852001
>>31852034
Ask to make it an underwater library.
>>
>>31852260
Apparently Shax legitimately likes underground lakes. It calms her and reminder of home.

To a goblin, that's like a beach in Hawaii.
>>
>>31852260
Shaxs natural realm is semi watery
>>
>>31852276
She's already got one of those, though.

Flooding a library just sounds dumb.

It'd be sweet as hell with fish swimming through the shelves.
>>
>>31852285
We could always make it an underwater library with a glass ceiling.
>>
>>31852324
That sounds cool.

Actually putting water in the library is not a good idea.

The books will mold.
>>

I'd support these.
>>
>>31852295
Depends what he means though. If the function stays the same but it looks different, it may be fine. It's like giving the old place a nice coat of paint. Only instead of paint it's water and turtles.
>>

He specifically said he doesn't want us changing anything.
>>

>>
>>31852377

>>

Goblin memory yo. Their dedication to roleplaying is impressive.
>>
>>31852377
Don't look at me. I got here late and plan to double cross this guy once he leaves. If that's not allow lets just consecrate the library to one of Sea Mom's chums and let them deal with redecorating.

>implying anyone gives a damn about how we decorate the place
This is about preserving the knowledge of the past or something like that.
>>
We can at least ask.
>>
>>31852349
He's not talking about function. This is a pocket plane library, so it's fundamental nature as a repository of knowledge can't be changed. The only thing we can really mess with is it's form, so he's asking us not to make any aesthetic changes.
>>
>>31852479
I'm suggesting we break our word. Or just hand the library off to the next guy and then turn around and kill him, reclaim it and then do some remodeling.
>>
>>31852499
>This is a pocket plane library, so it's fundamental nature as a repository of knowledge can't be changed
Says who? Pretty sure we could change that if we didn't choose to promise.
>>
>>31852499
The golem never said this. He was vague and many voted to ask for clarification.
>>
>>31852499
How about we ask and then decide
>>
"Okay, sure, but they'll be some changes." No reason to fight if you don't have to.

The golem nods, "Very well. As long as the books remain. Most of this knowledge no longer remains in this world." If it were all as awful as that fairy tale book, it doesn't surprise you.

"Why'd you wanna keep this place, anyway, it is sort of awful? The last place I took over was neat, and I made it even neater."

The golem stops, "You already control a plane?"

"Yep."

"Oh. Is it a plane of light?"

"Yeppers."

"I see. This should be interesting, then."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

The golem just laughs in response. You hope that you won't ever be an enigmatic jerk like that. He bows, and walks away. The old woman fetches a chair. "As the master has abdicated the throne, it is yours to take." Alright, time to get this show on the road. You sit down.

There is a rumbling. The walls turn to stone, and the bookcases become wooden shelves cut into precise walls. The floor becomes a strange, thank and cool glass floor, with bright crystals underneath. They still provide a glare, but when coming from beneath it isn't so bad. Water begins to lap at your feet, and glowing boss starts to cover the walls, stopping before reaching any of the bookcases. Off the floor are raised stone platforms with floating steps. On each of these platforms is a study desk with a brightly shining crystal.

In the end, it looks like some sort of strange stone laboratory, with a glass floor and books lining the stone walls. The ceiling is domed, with large crystals flaring with light, and surrounded by moss. The water on the floor is flowing slightly, and cool. You're not sure where it's heading.
>>
"Oh, Master!" Your custodian from other place is here. "I see you added another realm to your own. Your domain has grown and fused together with this place. A library, though? I didn't take you for the, ah, studying type." You mentally note to tell him to look up the meaning of the word 'patronizing' some time. His reptillian eyes squint as his vision passes over one of the extremely bright crystals. "Can't say I like the new additions too much."

"Oh, shut up. Those things provide enough light to read unlike your softly growing crap." The old woman shuffles over to him. She's grown a giant turtle shell.

The custodian scoffs, "Never thought I'd see you again. Please, leave the tidying up to me. You'll only get in my way."

"You wouldn't know a good book if it hit you in the head. If you dare to suggest reading to our guests I'll have to smack you about!" Wow, are these servants? You've never had those before.
>>
You raise a hand, "Do I get a maids?"

"No." "Absolutely not." The two servants reply simultaneously.

Maybe a different approach, "What about cute butlers?"

"Never." "I could be convinced." Ah hah! Division in the ranks!

There are various crystal turtles milling about, with books and reading platforms on their backs. Thin and tall stone humanoids are walking through the aisles, rearranging books as well. They have bright crystals in their palms and forehead. Weird. You don't like them nearly as much as the turtles. One walks over to you. You make them grow a lizard tail and snout. Much better. Stone lizard guys.

>You've unlocked new divine feats!
>Your crystal turtles can now fire lasers, and also glow very brightly from the inside.
>Summon Stone Lizard Servant! These thin stone servants are excellent scouts and information gatherers. Maybe you can even figure out how to make them assassins? They're super quiet.
>Summon Glarestone! You can make a giant super bright crystal. You're not sure what you'll use it for, but it is incredibly aggrivating.

>You've earned new passive feats! The old woman and custodian will let you store items in your new cavemansionstudy. You give them the oversized club to begin with. You can now step into your pocket dimension from anywhere, given an hour of time to concentrate.
>You can make your sword glow like a flashlight. Maybe you can do other things with your sword as well?

"Hey, do I get more pearls?!" You grab the custodian by the shoulders.

He gently takes your arms off him, "Yes. Obviously. Just one more a month, though. Here you go." He points a thumb at the old woman. "Because her section of the plane wasn't as strongly connected to light as mine."

"You say that like it's a bad thing. Did you know I could actually get stuff done? People would visit and not worry about being eaten by guardians. People liked it here!" This seems to be an old argument.

You step between them, "Hey, let's not fight. What are the other thrones, anyway?"

The custodian crosses his arms in a huff. "Why don't you just go read about them, huh? In this oh so great library."

Beaming the old woman wraps on arm around yours, and pats you on the arm. "There, there. Why don't I lead you to a fascinating book about it?"

You shake your head, "Uh, no thanks. Just tell me a little about them."

They break it down for you. There are hundreds of thrones, but most of them are claimed by various elemental lords. Their servants were the people you were encountering on the main land. They build up enough power to have a court, and then start throwing their weight around on a cosmic scale. Sounds like a lot of jerks. The smaller and weaker elements have thrones unclaimed, and most of those are on Yselathe, a country whose magical concerns have little to do with the elements, since their studies have more to do with demons and necromancy.

"So does that make me a light elemental or something, now?" You ask, processing the information.

"Nah, you can just create and control them. Like you are already doing."

"Oh. Okay. Hey, can I bring friends here?" You're some people would be interested.

"Yes, but they can only stay while you are here. They have to leave before you do, as your entrance to this plane is fixed to where you made it." Hmm. You'll have to think on all this.
