You collapse against a tree, desperate for breath that just wont come. You slide down the bark and look up at the morning sun, filtering softly through the canopy. You can hear the sound of birds and animals all around you, and the sweat rolls down your forehead. You think you've lost them for now, and you finally let your body relax for just a few moments. Today is like yesterday, tomorrow will be just like today. At the end of the day, doesn't it always just come down to survival?

Your body is still reeling from the attacks of Strangers Unit 2, the Japanese black ops squad that's been attacking you. According to one of their lieutenants, it seems that they think your body holds the key to mass producing viable Overed soldiers, something that Japan appears to be very interested in. You're not interested in helping the sun rise again, especially not after they blew up your house and kidnapped you. To top it all off, your powers have been going haywire for some time. Even now, your left arm hangs uselessly at your side, refusing to heal.

You glance down into the forest, thinking about your next move. You need to somehow find some help. As much as the UGN gets on your nerves, you realize that they're just the protection you need right now. You have to get to somewhere that they can find you. Your eyes dart to the mountain in the distance. The sole mountain on all of New Zanzibar Island. If you could just climb it, you're sure that you'd be able to find some way to attract their attention. On the other hand...You turn your attention to the deep woods. You could head back to the bunkers. They wouldn't expect something like that, and you might be able to find a radio or something. Of course, you could always just keep aimlessly running. You might even make it to a road.

>Head for the mountain. You need to get someplace high.
>Head back to the bunker. They have what you need.
>You just have to keep running. You know you can outrun them.

You've got to keep running. Sitting around here, thinking up plans that won't amount to anything is just giving them more time to find you. You groan, getting on your feet, feeling the wounds tear open with every step. You try to hold down your broken arm as you begin to run again, trying to keep the blood from running out even more. With your powers malfunctioning like this, the blood loss has been starting to make you feel a little dizzy, not to mention whatever strange drugs they injected you with before you made your escape. Without meaningfully picking a direction, you just begin to run. Your feet scrap across the forest floor, kicking up dried leaves and rotten twigs with every move. You don't know where you're going. The smells aren't familiar here, and your nose seems to be fading in and out as you run.

You're going at a steady pace when out of nowhere, the world spins. You're thrown off your feet and dragged into the air before you can figure out what's going on. You look quickly to your legs to see that they've been ensnared in a steel cable, the line biting into your flesh from the force of the snap. Your vision shakes as the blood suddenly rushes to your head and the violent motion rattles your brain. You hear the sound of a spring being wound, and you look back and forth to figure out what's happening. Out of the corner of your eye, you see a glint of steel. You turn your head as best as you can to see a storm of arrows flying towards you. It's a trap! Damn ninjas! You've got to do something before you get skewered!

>Try to swing to the side!

Can't expect we'll be capable of breaking the cable in this condition, and I don't expect to be able to swig far enough quickly enough if there's nothing to push off of. Hope you've got a good crunch in ya Cap, gotta grab that cable.
>>
>>31832503
>Try to swing to the side!

Ninja traps! I guess the only place not trapped would have been the base itself!
>>
You guys are cruel, asking Captain to do a hanging crunch like this...

>>31832690
With a broken arm, no less.

>>
>>31832690
GAINS, do another rep
>>
>>31832690
What should we care for his suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: we have received the information, so we act on it. Take control of the input and Captain shall become master of the output.
>>
>>31832690
You've got to get up! You flex your muscles, doubling over and reaching as best as you can for your toes. As soon as you take hold of the snare around your legs, you can feel the arrows skimming across your back, whistling past you. That was close, but it looks like they missed-

The sound of a dull slap catches your attention. Your broken left arm, left dangling by your sudden movement, quakes with pain. Three arrows have pierced cleanly through your arm and, to your surprise, blood is flowing freely from your new wounds. You try to focus your unsteady vision on the arrows, and to your surprise you see that they're grooved and twisted, with bladed channels running down the head and across the shaft. These arrows aren't meant to kill an Overed like yourself right away. They're trying to bleed you out!

Ah. That's right. They want you alive more than dead. They've got to know that you've triggered this trap already. You have to get out of here. You reach up to the cable and pull with all your strength. The metal bites into your flesh and it begins to fray slowly. As hard as you're trying, however, it seems like your strength is still fading. Shit. The one time you truly need your powers and they're not cooperating with you. You were feeling so strong before now, when you were fighting that ninja. Just when did your power start to fade again...?
>>
>>31833055

>Her neck is unguarded, and you're just a few inches away. You unhinge your jaw...

A familiar ache makes its way through your mind. That's right. You were going to rip her throat open. Why the hell would you even consider something like that? With a final heave, you break open your bonds and fall down to the forest floor. You rise up on unsure feet and resume your escape. You've already wasted so much time here. You've got to get yourself together. Aimlessly running like this isn't going to get you anywhere with these traps. It's too late to turn back to the bunker, but you can still make it to the mountain if you think it might be safer. On the other hand, hiding might be good for now. You've got to recover from these wounds before they bring you down. Or you could maybe try to climb some of the trees around here. You could get a better view of the landscape from up there...

>Change of plans, time to go to the mountain.
>You've got to rest before you pass out from blood loss.
>Maybe climb a tree...
>>

pull fins/fletching off arrows, pull them the rest of the way through the arm, rotate them to follow the twist if you need to. Then use your goddamn shirt to staunch the wounds and tie off the arm. Not that I expect death from bloodloss or anything (though passing out does seem like a risk) but not leaving a trail of blood is ideal.

>>31833068
You need to get hold of this situation. You pull the arrows from your arm and tear off a piece of your shirt to dress the wounds. Once you've taken care of that, you try to climb a nearby tree. You need to get higher, get a read on where you are and where you need to go. Something, anything to get this mess under control. With two well placed jumps, you're up the side of a tree and resting atop the canopy. You turn your head one way and another, getting a read on the land. Seems you're not too far from the highway at this point. If you could just head down to the ground, you think you could make it to the road with about a ten minute sprint. Okay, things are finally looking up!

It is in that moment that you feel your chest cave in. You don't hear the sound of the gunshot until a second after the bullet leaves your body and tumbles down in front of you, the red mist spraying everywhere. Your sight clouds up, and you have a hard time thinking. A sniper...?

Oh yeah. These guys are trained professionals. They must have already predicted how you would have tried to escape. You were a fool to think that you could get away just by running. Your body gives out and you tumble down to the ground. Your mind follows shortly afterward, leaving nothing but an uncomfortable darkness to keep you company.
>>
>>31833812
It's a fair trade. Maybe he'll snap out of it eventually, maybe not.probably not.

Would be interesting to watch either way.

--

Your dreams have been growing more violent recently. There's no more of those happy memories. No more play dates with that girl. There's only this carnage. The blood sprays your face as the now familiar monster casts them aside. Though terribly wounded, the strange creature has emerged the victor, stepping on the throats of the poor beasts. Its eyes return to you, looking down on you with a cold glare.

"I think I'll pass on the appetizer next time. It was a little too spicy," The creature grabs you by the throat and lifts you up. You suddenly feel small, your normal strength completely gone. "I think it's about time for the main course. What do you say, kid?"

--

You open your eyes. A familiar ceiling greets you, along with the haze of ancient lighting and old dust. The bunker. Your limbs have been pierced again, and you're back on that old table. Only this time, you notice that they're actively bleeding you out instead of just jabbing you.

"You did well to get as far as you did, AIR One."

It's that lead ninja again. She steps into your vision, already pointing her sword at you.

"But you won't escape again. As we speak, my commander is on his way to retrieve your body. He'll be taking you to the mainland for further experimentation. All I have to ask you is this: Can we ship you in one piece or shall we cut you up first?"

Arrogant. But maybe you can use that...

I don't believe there is anything or anyway to reverse the transformation into a Germ.

The only thing preventing the transformation is us desperately clinging to what little humanity we have left, with our strong emotional bonds with others reinforcing our ideal of ourselves as human.

Once we become a bestial, inhuman monster full of hate, and cast aside reason, it seems naieve to assume there would be any chance of us managing to reverse the change. It WOULD be permanent.

>>31833858

...You hate yourself for even thinking it. You feel disgusted with yourself already. Your dignity has taken a mortal blow for even considering the thought. But you take in a deep breath and prepare yourself mentally. With a voice and a tone you weren't sure you could muster, you declare that you've fallen in love with this mystery ninja. Her exotic charms and impressive skills have stolen your heart! You've never had much control over it, but you try your best to up your appeal. There must be some power within your repertoire that can help you, right? While you only feel a slight tingling in your scalp, you punctuate your statement with a confident smile.

God, this isn't you, but you hope the ninja buys it.

"Wha, whahwahwhaaa?"

She takes a step back, putting up her arms defensively. That reaction...it's like you punched her or something. Is she that out of practice? Still, it's an opening! You press your assault, telling her that her hair is silky and straight, and what you've seen of her skin looks very soft. The ninja looks at the ground and furrows her brow.

"A-ata...I don't believe you! You're just trying to get out! We've only known each other for less than a day? How can you be smitten with me already?"

Well, she's not completely stupid. You try to remember what Claire's been telling you she wants. Maybe this girl has some stuff in common? You begin to recite how you'd like to do all sorts of things with her, listing off all the things that Claire has bombarded you with over the last several months, from the most innocuous to the most incredibly depraved. The words tumble out of your mouth at high speed. With every syllable, you see the ninja's composure take a solid hit. By the end of your spiel, she's kneeling on the ground, burning red in the face.

"I...I'm flattered you want to do all that with me, but I have my duty! What makes you think that I'd abandon my duty just to," she mumbles,"with you!?"

Your brain overheats. Does there need to be a greater reason? It's her fault you're in this situation! It's her fault that you've gotten like this, strapped down here, unable to do anything! There's only one thing to do in this situation and that's-

"Have sex! Of course!"

Of course. Wait. Hold on, you weren't talking about that at all. The ninja's eyes seem unfocused, and she pulls on her mask. Her face is flushed and her expression is one of pure excitement.

"No, no. You're right. It's my fault for getting you all bothered with my appeal. I should take responsibility. Yes. That's the only reasonable thing to do here."

In what crazy world is that reasonable!? The ninja sidles up to you and starts running her fingers over your chest. She puts her face into your hair and takes a deep breath. You can feel her shuddering against you. You were trying to seduce her, but you didn't want it to be this bad! As it stands, she's just going to have her way with you while you're still tied up like this! Her hand reaches down to your waist...

No. Nope. Absolutely not! You close your eyes and try to distract yourself. Isn't there anything, anything you can do to stop this!? Suddenly, the ninja's hand stops. You see her face contort into an expression of pain. She's lifted off of your body and is pulled back.

"Not only do you injure my darling, but now you are attempting to steal him away with your body?" Claire's familiar form slowly materializes. She holds the ninja by the neck and her lightless eyes do not waver one milimeter from her target. The coldness you feel from her is palpable.

"I will not overlook this. I will not forgive this."

We were trying our best in a fuck up situation.

Not like we were gonna give the ninja our first time. read the update. We trying to escape the bonds.
>>
>>31835132
u wot mate? She's blaming the ninja, not us. Remember, Claire is entirely accepting of Captain's mistresses, lovers, and pets.
>>
>>31835165
I certainly hope so.
Annoying, creepy, and terrifying though she can be as an ally, she'd be worse as an enemy.
>>
>>31835183
...Ah shit. Guys, Captain's still tied down.

And Claire is not.
>>
>>31835132
I think what's put CLaire beyond the pale here is not "Captain getting with another girl" (see us and I think it was rin she tried to get us to screw) and more "Captain getting with another girl from a different organization". after all, if we get with someone from UGN, she can still monitor us. if we get together with a girl in another agency entirely she can kiss seeing us again outside the battlefield goodbye for ever
>>
>>31835132
Claire walked in on Captain strapped to a table squirming and trying to get away while some strange bitch touched him. She missed the "I want to do things to you" lies.

All that happened with this option is that ninjabitch is a dead woman now whereas the other options might have resulted in her living through this.

Claire does such unspeakable things to us in that room, that the ninjas allow us to leave peacefully just so we'll be quiet and gone and they'll be free to clean out the stains.

The ninja lieutenant struggles under Claire's grip, but your companion's cold expression doesn't show the slightest sign of concern. Instead, she simply closest her fist, crushing your captor's windpipe and snapping her neck in a single, swift motion. Claire tosses the limp body away and, without looking back at it, begins to remove your restrains. You glance over at the ragdoll body heaped in the corner. Since the ninja is an Overed, you're pretty sure she'll survive, but that's still a pretty brutal way to go down.

"Oh, she was an Overed?"

...Putting Claire's merciless execution aside, you idly wonder how she was able to find you? It isn't like you were able to get any word out to the UGN.

"Our hearts are connected, Captain. As long as I have these feelings within my chest, finding you will be an inevitability."

Unlikely.

"I also extracted the information from a Stranger Unit member I captured at your residence. It took some time to crack him, but it seems his information was good."

Claire pulls the last restraint off you and you sit up on the table. You're relieved to finally be free, but you're even more relieved to have Claire here with you. It feels like you can take a breath of fresh air again and finally get something nice to eat. Wait. There's nothing to eat here. You shake your head and look yourself over. Your wounds dully ache, and you're feeling a little bit dizzy from all the blood you've lost. You think you'll be fine with just a little more rest, but you know you don't have the time.

>You need to rest. You can ask Claire about the situation as you do.
>No time to sit. Take the lead and escape with Claire.
>You can't run with these Strangers still here. Take Claire and go on the attack.

First we need to go to the kitchin. We need food for the Cap.

then kill everyone or incapacitate them. We been fighting fucking ninjas for weeks.

Time for Captain to let it rip.
>>
You know, I've been wondering what sorts of powers Claire has, and if DXR is using strictly the powers included in the books. Because oh god there is a simple power that amplifies hearing a hundred fold, and I have the sneaking suspicion she is aware of what Captain's been up to.

YOU LACK THE HEART OF A WARRIOR, ANONYMOUS.

WE STAND NOW, WEAKENED, BUT WITH A MORE THAN ADEQUATE ALLY AT OUR SIDE. SOMETHING WE DID NOT HAVE DURING OUR ORIGINAL BREAKOUT.

TO SCORN SUCH A BOON WOULD BE FOLLY.

MOREOVER, THESE INDIVIDUALS HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES MORE THAN CAPABLE AND WILLING TO HUNT US WHEREVER WE MAY GO. ASSUMING WE WILL FIND ANYWHERE TO HIDE LONG ENOUGH TO RECUPERATE IS ARROGANT BEYOND BELIEF. JUST HOW LONG DO YOU PLAN TO KEEP RUNNING FROM OUR TROUBLES, ALL THE WHILE BEING SKIRMISHED AND STRAFED UNTIL WE COLLAPSE FROM EXHAUSTION AND DESPAIR?

IS IT NOT BETTER TO FACE THEM IN ONE, GLORIOUS, DECISIVE BATTLE, SO THAT WE MAY USE OUR LIMITED STRENGTH AND STAMINA TO ITS FULLEST?

Yeah. If you don't clear out at least some of these Strangers, you'll never be able to escape no matter how many times you try. Claire nods, running her finger along the used restraints. The metal twists and turns until it becomes a small machine pistol. She readies the weapon, looking over her craftsmanship for a few moments before glancing back up at you. Claire is, as always, expressionless, but something about her stance cues you in. Is she worried? You can feel her looking over at your useless arm.

"I will be taking point today, darling. Please allow me to shoulder some of your burden."

You sigh and acquiesce. It's true, you are still at less than your best. You let Claire lead the way as you head back out into the now familiar hallways of the bunker. Claire turns around each corner expertly, delivering a short burst from her pistol before motioning for you to join her. Like this, you can see why she was called the Battle Doll. These elite soldiers aren't even making her sweat. You step over their smoking bodies, more machine than man at this point, and try to get a feel for the situation. Strangely, no alarms have sounded yet, despite these continued assaults. Is something else going on here?

You grab Claire by the shoulder and pull her closer. Despite the serious situation, she never misses a chance to swoon, and attempts to fall into your arms. You merely let her fall to the floor as you consider the situation. You're being allowed to attack troops at will. There are no alarms sounding. The response is not escalating. None of this adds up to anything good. You kneel and begin to whisper in Claire's ear. If you're right, what's really going on is.

>This is a test. You're just here as an obstacle for their men.
>This is an experiment. They're trying to learn more about the AIR project's results.

This must all be one big set up. They're obviously trying to lure you into something big, and you've just been playing right into their hands!

"That is absolutely, one hundred percent correct, young man!"

Your head snaps around and you see a new face. Dressed in what appears to be a very standard military uniform is a man of far east descent. His hair is greased back, and on his face is a neatly trimmed goatee. At his side is a very traditional looking sword, but even you can spot the tell-tale signs of a high frequency modification. This man must be that commander the lieutenant spoke about. This isn't good, not good at all.

"You are correct! This isn't a good situation for you at all! Since I am now on the scene, your chances of a successful escape are now less than one percent!"

The man throws his arms open wide and laughs. It looks like Strangers isn't lacking for weird command officers either. Not that it matters to you. No matter who the enemy is, you've got confidence that you'll be able to beat them down in you try.

"What? Are you going for violence already? I'd be happy to oblige, but perhaps it would be more prudent to speak first?"

Claire leans up next to you and puts a hand up to your ear. Hm, her breath tickles.

"It might be best to engage him in some small talk. I leave the decision up to you, but we may be able to learn some valuable information by simply entertaining him for a short time. I am also greatly enjoying al of the whispering we have been doing. Captain's gentle voice is pleasant too."

Sure. You're not very good at conversation, but you can hear him out for a while. If Claire is right, then you should be able to learn something good about this whole affair and maybe get past him and this trouble without losing another arm and perhaps a leg.

"Good, good. I was actually a bit worried there. I felt like you had a fifty five percent chance of simply punching me in the face! That would have been truly regrettable!"

Whatever, this guy better get talking or maybe you will decide to smear him across the wall after all. The man coughs, then begins to lean on his sword, using it as support. With his other hand, he takes out a cigarette and begins to have an easy going smoke. He takes a few puffs before returning to the conversation.

"So, by now I'm sure you know about our little theory on the AIR project. How it's supposed to be able to mass produce Overed and how we need your body to figure out how to do that. What I might have of interest to you is why this might be a good thing for you. Besides the fact that we'll be needing large deposits of your genetic material, with all that implies, we'd also be more than willing to compensate you for your willing cooperation. You'll have everything you could possibly want, all provided by the Japanese government. As long as you stay where we can see you, all you'll have to do is knock one out into a cup every now and again so we can study how you work."

Oh, it's THIS spiel again...

"Hm? Something wrong? You look a little bored. Surely the allure of wealth and safety aren't lost on you."

Maybe instead of letting him blab on, you could ask some questions?

>How do they plan on mass producing Overed anyway?
>Japan's not really in need of superweapons, is it?
>Screw this, just knock him out.

Thank you kindly you awesome person you. If I like what I see, I will indeed support the developers.

If someone else happens to have that advanced rulebook, I would appreciate that as well. What content does it have that the normal doesn't?
>>
>>31839434
More stuff. New Renegade strains, powers, scenarios, that sort of thing. It's the PHB (and DM Guide and Monster Manual) 2 for Double Cross. Haven't looked at it much I confess, still going through my copy of the basic rulebook.

When foolz comes back try searching for Double Cross. The general thread that pops up every so often has links to both rulebooks.
