Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn managed to convince you that the threat posed by renegade Quixos is so great, that no cost is too great in order to stop him. However the only lead to the mysterious heretic is Grey Knight Deiron, who is currently being held on Inquisitorial prison moon of Nobis. Your elite strike team infiltrated the facility and you have managed to penetrate deep into the Inquisitorial underground fortress. However at the entrance to Deirons cell, you are confronted by a Grey Knight and his novice pupil. The Grey Knight puts up a valiant defence, but falls. Now the only thing separating the Chapter Master from the key to all of the mysteries is young Grey Knight named Kaldor...

Rolled 1

After Ironhaunts blow takes down old Grey Knight, for a moment there is complete in the room. No one can really understand what just happened. Void Squad have never met Grey Knights, they have only read about them from the books old Apothecary Klementhos would bring them. They were heroes even among the Astartes, proud, but secretive, a whole order of psyker warriors, incorruptible servants of the God Emperor. They were the ones you would hope to see charging in at your darkest hour and saving the day. Today, they met a legend for the first time, and they witnessed their Chapter Master striking it down. Young initiate, who was told to guard the door is in shock. Psychic wards protect him from daemonic spells, mental conditioning made him immune to concussion, fear and fatigue, his very genetical makeup is created to make him resistant to death itself. But none of these things can protect against disbelief and horror that crept into his heart after seeing his mentor fall. Despite his master's orders, young initiate forgets his duty breaks the silence with a savage scream. He charges forward without tactics, without finesse, he is driven purely by rage...

Kaldor, despite being in rage, seems to know what he's doing, he easily evades your slow counter attack and then jumps to the side as you try to dodge him. Your wounds slow you down and allow him to easily outmaneuver you. He strikes once, your bolt pistol is now cut in half. He strikes again, this time you barely deflect his strike from your face, the disruption field surrounding his halberd leaves a mark on your helmet's faceplate. He slips his weapon under the Ironhaunt and strikes upwards, your gladius flies to the end of the room, you are disarmed. Kaldor doesn't wait, he moves in for the kill, but he has something worse in mind, than simply striking you - he takes you hostage, keeping his halberd between your neck armour plates and positioning himself behind you.
>MOVE AND I'll FRY YOU, WRETCH!

What do you do?
>>
>>31828957

Burn a Fate Point

Iron Haunt was deflected with too much force. By the fickle hand of fate, the Gladius finds the Grey Knight Novice's own neck, biting into his spine and discharging a deadly blast of energy that slays him instantly.
His halberd deactivates, prevented from biting into Chapter Master's neck by armor plates holding it in place.

We thought we were rescuing a Grey Knight but apparently you have moved him.
>Who is the Inquisitor you are attached to!?
Who said we were attached to an Inquisitor? We are trying to free your brother Deiron to work against the heretical Inquisitor Quixos who has in the past shown that he is irrevocably corrupted by Chaos. We hoped that Deiron would have some information about where Quixos is and how to stop him.

Older Grey Knight stands up. You notice that his movements are slower and less agile than before, but he seems to have regained some control over his armour(penalty reduced to -25). He turns to you:
>Just as I thought... You are looking for Brother Deiron and you are not part of some Inquisitors retinue. I am afraid he is a prisoner of the holy Inquisition. That is the reason we are here, only another Grey Knight could stop him now. I sense no taint in you, even if our psychic signature is unusual... But if you are the servants of the Emperor, why would you break into His prisons? It is for Inquisitors to seek out heretics, not Astartes. You have broken a hundred laws and oaths just by coming here, not speaking about all the innocent who must have paid the ultimate price to defend this place. I am not letting you come one step closer to Deiron.
Only now you notice that there is another, smaller door leading into a secondary cell at the end of the room...

You sense telepathic communication between Grey Knights. You sense urgency and weariness from the mentor, while novice seems to be full of rage and eagerness to fight. If you would like to intercept their conversation, you'd need to generate 12 power points.

>You told me why you came here, nameless one. Let us make a deal. I will tell you why Brother Deiron has been imprisoned and you will leave this place without further questions. You are clearly not aware of the gravity of the situation you are in right now and I believe that you have been tricked into coming here. I do not wish to spill your blood. Give me an oath to the Emperor that you will leave after I tell you the truth. Lapdogs to some radical?!
Listen to yourself, you call yourself a daemon hunter? You call yourself a servant to the emperor? A space marine?! You yourself should know the danger of ANY psyker being possessed, not to mention ANY of Alpha+ Status, and Quixos has MULTIPLE psykers of that level, he's planning on bringing down more than worlds Grey Knight!
Do you think the enemies of the Imperium stupid? Do you think they would act as foolishly as you are now? Fighting among each other? And for what? You've hardly listened to me, you didn't even ask those questions which should be essential before attacking me, shame on you Space Marine, if I was truly a heretic and a traitorous dog do you not think I would have attacked you first? Do you not think I would have struck you down and proceeded to Deiron? And have I Grey Knight? Have I?!
No, because I retain some common goddamn sense, and I believe that you would too! A few Imperial lives are worth nothing to the worlds of the Imperium, which should be the priority here, rather than nit picking about what oaths I have broken, about what lives have been taken, and to honor those lives you must at least let me leave here with the truth, to fight against Quixos and the enemies of the Imperium!

>>31830754
And then there was another post.
>>
>>31830754
Tell me Grey Knight, what would that do for the problem? How would that help me? How would that help the civilians of the Imperium?
It WON'T, that's what, and if you can't recognize the dangers of the Alpha+ psykers in the hands of a ROGUE INQUISITOR, then you CLEARLY have NO awareness of the gravity of the situation!
I came here so I could save the many instead of the few, and yet you're telling me to go home empty handed, EVEN AFTER killing the servants of the Emperor, shame on you for devaluing their lives, and not recognizing the threat I'm proposing.

>Meet Deiron, former Brother of the Grey Knights, current prisoner of the Inquisition, thrice-bound Daemonhost captured while trying to murder the High Lord Inquisitor Weimar of the Sector Deus, sentenced to be held here until the end of time by Inquisitor Hesten. >You clearly fail to see the point. We don't mind the legends, but Grey Knights are made of flesh and blood, just like you. Our souls are indeed incorruptible and one of the writes of initiation, as you seem to be aware, is the Banishing, taking a daemon into our own body and enduring while our Brothers exorcise it from us. But these things give us only the capacity to keep the daemon out of our mind, not from out body. The new Grey Knights are also implanted with silver hexagrammic and pentagrammic Purity Wards under our skin which cover entire body and help to prevent daemonic entities from touching or contaminating us. However Brother Deiron was a victim of extremely terrible heresy... After his stationing on Inaria, he seemed to be obsessed to find his last Inquisitor, to whom he was attached. Then he went missing. After we captured him, we couldn't believe that his body was used as a vessel for Daemon. It was unheard of. But then, after examination, the truth became clear. Brother Deiron has been skinned alive, probably over the course of many months, removing all of the protective wards together with his flesh and using some sort of heretical, vat-grown tissue to replace it. It must have taken years to break him, but whoever did it, succeeded. Deiron must be still somewhere there, chained to a mental cross deep inside his own consciousness, but the body is not his. We have sent the request to Titan, so that our Grand Master would advice whether we are allowed to even attempt exorcising him or should he be left to rot in the Inquisitorial dungeon forever... Either way, you must understand that your mission here is over. Now you shall leave or we will make you!

However I know that if there is a force out there that can do this to a Grey Knight, it cannot be left unchecked... I almost want to believe you, but you must give me some proof. I sense you are a psyker. I can give you two options - allow me to enter your psyche and witness what you say you have seen at Inaria[ooc: he could try to seek out other information from inside your brain] OR allow me to put a killing ward inside your brain. If you care about your mission more than about your life, it will give you 3 months time to complete it, if you are successful, you can return to Nobis and I'll remove it, otherwise it will kill you. What shall you say?
>>31831971
It'd be lovely to see how timeline would change with him getting killed so early.
>>
>>31832132
What? Was me saying it for the past three goddamn hours not good enough for you you stupid cunt of a GM?
>>
>>31832132
>In that chamber, with the mutilated astartes, one was barely alive, Acenos was his name. He spoke of Quixos, and he also said something else, something which affected Deiron deeply.

>The Box.
>>
>>31832132
Also can we not just show the Grey Knight the mission recording from Ghostly Justice?
>>
>>31832248
I am afraid you do not carry around recording of 20 year old missions with you all the time, also your Occulus hasn't been installed yet at the time.
>>31832189
Old Grey Knight freezes:
>What did you just say?
>>
>>31832312
The box you stupid cunt, are your ears as dead as your power armour after I broke the shit out of it?

>>

>>31832355
I must admit I laughed out loud as well.
>>
>>31832386
What? So only now you're actually going to take attention of what I'm saying?
Fuck you GM, at least fucking be consistent.
>>
>>31832386
>All I know is Quixos is trying to find it. That and Deiron considered this the perfect moment to.....terminate the conversation.
>>
>>31832386
"I know far too little, Master Knight. What I can tell you is that there are fated chapters and 'the box' which may not even be a box."

"With the distrust you've shown me, I do not feel inclined to allow you into my mind, and I must make my escape before more loyal lives are wasted. If you wish, I will secure a mission recording as proof, along with the book Deiron gifted unto one of the fated. If you agree, we can choose a location and time for you to recover the goods."

Dear anon, I have been paying attention to what you have been saying all the time, despite your manner. I didn't see at any point any groundbreaking arguments from your side who would make the GKs believe that what you are telling them is not a fairytale. I understand your frustration, but it's unfounded.
>>31832419
>That makes matters even more complicated... But our duty is our duty. It's time to choose for you. I gave you choice and I am willing to go as far as give away my prisoner for you to take away, but I need you to decide now.
+++++
Guys, please vote and in about 10-15 minutes I'll post.
1. Initiate combat
2. Leave with nothing
3. Agree to accept the killing ward
4. Agree to allow to view the memories(Willpower contest in case of additional reading)
On option 3 and 4, you will be able to leave with the Daemonhost, Grey Knights will even show you the way to the surface. What shall you do?

Proposed Chapter XP spend.
We have 18

Propose 2 on Seran for +10 Tech-Use (making him 84)
2 on Klementhos for +10 Medicae (making him 82)
4 on Trianon for +20 Willpower (making him 82)
4 on Damokleon for +20 Willpower (making him 58)

Leaves us with 6XP that I would like to disperse among our Cmpany Captains (Brethorius, Harmantos, Dreidor, Quintor, Macedon, Kay) to improve their Leadership, but several haven't been given a value for it yet so I dunno.

Yes/No ?

I'm less hesitant to go for option 4. I mean, we've got good WP and Mental Fortress, furthermore if he sees what we say is true it doesn't really matter if he learns our identity, because he knows about why we've done this crap.

But...I still have reservations....I'm just worried the escape might go wrong if the GK don't lead us.
>>
>>31832686
I would have to say that Trianon can't improve his WP above 70 at this time(cost 2 xp) and Damokleon cannot exceed 50 WP(cost 3 xp). Others are fine.

>4. Agree to allow to view the memories(Willpower contest in case of additional reading)
he knows to much at this point anyway
>>
>>31832756
okay, then INSTEAD disperse the 3 extra XP among the company captains for MOAR LEADERSHIP

The intrusion by the Grey Knight is soft and silky, not something you'd expect from a psychic warrior, he reminds you of a fish, swimming along the current and not trying to break out. He enters your memories and sees what you show him, but doesn't attempt to grab more than he's offered. He repeats the memories related to Operation Ghostly Justice a few times finally, he leaves. Once you focus on the real space again, he takes off his helmet - a sign of trust even among the Grey Knights.
>It's hard to believe that mere moments ago I was ready to kill you, nameless one. You indeed are on a dark path. I do not know what is your final goal, but I sense that you do not wish ill upon the Imperium. It seems what happened here is that you have wounded me greatly and destroyed my armour. Young Kaldor saved me, but was unable to protect the prisoner. Now go, before I change my mind.

Grey knights show a maintenance tunnel on their up to date maps, leading very close to the original extraction point you have been planning for. It is strange to walk with Deiron levitating alongside you, but Kaldor's mentor gave you instructions of how to handle the Daemonhost until you find a trained specialist. Your team leaves without much further resistance. Please roll d100 for the travel across lunar surface and pick up.

It takes a few weeks until Eisenhorn is finally able to extract you. You are both glad and worried to see his ship approach, because you know that there is a hard conversation awaiting both of you. The unblinking stare from Deiron's cursed eyes doesn't make the situation any easier. But you sense that you made a big step today that will affect many things in the future. For better or for worse, you now hold the keys to the mysteries which shroud Quixos. The coming years will be very interesting...
