Welcome to Academy City. The time is late afternoon, the weather is uncomfortably warm, and the date is August 10.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you weren’t in the best of moods. The reason for that was Lord Kudou, Asuka’s father, who had treated you to tea and no small amount of disrespect. It was alleviated somewhat by the fact that he gave his unconditional blessing, fully expecting you to fail, more accurately die, courting his daughter. You had to take the good with the bad so at least he wasn’t going to meddle with your relationship. At least you think he would not, or maybe this was just the first of many attempts to drive a wedge between you. Paranoia wasn’t exactly your thing either so you just fumed silently as you had wheeled yourself through the streets. Your expression was not helped by the lack of eyebrows.

Your thoughts were interrupted by a call from Nunotaba however. What did she have in store for you this time? Hopefully it wouldn’t be more questionably legal jobs or more yaoi of you but you doubted it.

“おはいよう, Torikov, I’m hoping you are free,” she greeted.

You couldn’t deny that you were.

“そう, then perhaps you were interested in some heavy lifting?” she asked.

Are you interested?

“あっ, I take your lack of refusal as a yes,” Nunotaba spoke.

“Well I’d rather you tell me more before I hang up,” you answered.

“よい, I require you assistance in a manner. It is nothing but a precautionary measure on my part so any violence or danger is purely in self-defence,” Nunotaba explained.

“Wait, you want me as a bodyguard?” you asked.

“はい, I suppose that is an adequate simplification.”

“You do realise that I am injured and wheelchair bound right?”

“いぃえ, but that may not matter much. Your presence would be enough to deter attackers.”

“Why do you need my help anyway? You’re not planning on wandering The Strange out in the dark or anything are you?”

“それわ, no, let us say that my activities could attract some unsavoury types and it would be safer if there was someone with me.”

“This isn’t a favour is it?”

“いぃえ, it is not, I will be paying you for your services. I am simply asking you first because we are friends and you are free to refuse.”

“And what is it you’re doing?”

“Are you interested? あっ! I must go soon.”

She then gave you an address somewhere in School District 7 that she was going to be in until tonight before she hung up. From the way she left, it seemed to be sudden but her voice had been calm. Whether she was in some real deep shit or not, you wouldn’t know unless you accepted and met up with her.

Well there wasn’t anything to lose and you had nothing pressing to attend to at the moment. While you were rich, more money was always good. You considered calling up Asuka but with the way she had left you earlier today, you had a feeling she wanted to be alone for a while. It took a while but you eventually navigated the alleys to find the meet up location.

Nunotaba was waiting in an old apartment building with a labcoat and small schoolbag. The interior was dilapidated as you thought. Stray bits of wood, piping and glass lay strewn about. Whatever furniture that remained was mostly old and falling apart. Wooden dressers, mixed with metal desks stood about rotting. Thankfully the lights still worked.

“よぅこそう, I am glad that you have taken up my offer,” Nunotaba greeted, “Otherwise I may have had to deal with more unsavoury individuals.”

“Well I heard you were offering payment,” you replied.

“Straight to business it is then,” Nunotaba straightened, “そう, how much of the recent rumours have you been following?”

“None at all actually,” you admitted.

“That will not do at all,” she sighed, “つまり, many don’t know, but I am the source of the rumours regarding money cards hidden in the nooks and crannies of Academy City.”

“Wait, you mean you’re just throwing money away on the street?”

“I have my reasons for it and as your employer you do not need to know why,” she answered.

“Well I can imagine why you’d need the protection then.”

“だから, you are needed. Now on to payment, I am offering this much.”

She was offering a six-digit sum, not an insignificant sum, and all that just for a little bodyguard work. You thought it was reasonable. This may not be illegal like the Kaiou U job but the danger was still there.

Just as you finished your dealings however, trouble found you. Her suspicions were confirmed. There were four of them, two large and two skinnies. The thugs, as it were, had been looking for her.

“Well what do we have here?”

You look at Nunotaba as the thugs go on about their objectives. Looks like she wanted to say something to them, but if they really were after her it was your job to intervene.

Even if Nunotaba looked like she had everything under control, you trusted yourself more in this familiar situation.

“She ain’t got shit,” you redirected their attention, “Someone smarter than you four already got everything she had.”

“And that’d be you smartass?” the spikey head asked.

“You know our boss doesn’t want us hitting woman and kids,” the one with the stubble started, “We won’t feel bad kicking your ass, even if you’re in a wheelchair.”

From the way the two talked, it looked like Spikey and Stubble were the ringleaders. They had the casual confidence of thugs that thought themselves kings of the world. The other two, Bandana and Beanie respectively didn’t speak up but you didn’t need them to to recognise that they were the dumb muscle. A show of strength was enough to get them to waver and if the other two went down then you’d have it in the bag.

“Of course not,” you answered Spikey, “Does it look like I need that kind of chump change?”

“Looks like we’ll do this the hard way then,” Stubble said.

The two of them started to reach for steel pipes on the ground. You don’t let them, moving them out of their reach and one of them in to your hand.

“Don’t make me get out of this chair,” you laid your new improvised weapon in your hands.

“Telekinetic huh?” Stubble grimaced.

The Bandana started sweating bullets in the back though the other three didn’t seem phased at all as they formed fists.

You shouted at Spikey as he was about to take a step forward.

“Freeze,” you brandished your pipe like a conductor.

He did so, given your tone and action, wondering what your game was. That confusion turned in to a concussion as you dropped a dresser on him. Unfortunately it was empty but at least he was down for a while. Stubble didn’t miss a beat and came at you, kicking up the pipe as he did so. It was a neat trick, seeing him catch it mid air with his left cocked and ready to clean your clock. Too bad you sent your own pipe straight between his eyes as he fell backwards.

“The fuck are you two idiots waiting for,” Stubble shouted from the floor, “get him.”

He was holding his head, bleeding from the blow but at least he still had the sense to order Bandana and Beanie to keep you occupied as he recovered himself. You dissuaded them by deliberately scraping a metal filing cabinet across the floor before finally holding if aloft over your head. When Beanie didn’t stop you tossed it at him but he was ready. Swatting it aside, it looked like he was bruised and battered but unbowed. Bandana was quickly following behind him as Stubble and Spikey staggered to their feet.

These guys weren’t worth getting out of your chair for. That and you didn’t want to aggravate your injuries. Bandana’s blow was predictable. So much so that you wheeled around him with near contemptuous ease. Your retaliation was another cabinet. He only stumbled around a bit before hitting the ground like a sack of potatoes. Bandana ceased movement as you easily put down three of his buddies without so much as a scratch. Of course, Stubble and Spikey had gotten back up but Bandana wasn’t concerned so much about that. Yeah, he was probably questioning his loyalties right about now. You left him alone as the other were looking to come at you again.

“What’s the matter tough guy?” you turned to address Stubble, “I’m kicking your ass in a wheelchair here.”

“You piece of shit I’m going to,” he seemed too daze to think of something.

You didn’t give him an opportunity to as his legs met the business end of a metal desk flying faster than you could run. His scream only punctuated how his knees snapped at an unnatural angle. That only left Spikey who was still stumbling towards you. Correction, he was shuffling towards you, looking dead on his feet. A simple telekinetic push bowls him over. It wasn’t even that strong. Bandana standing was petrified and Nunotaba was slowly clapping at your performance.

>>
>>31829955
Shouldn't our fall back be cash we can use immediately? This quest isn't going to last long enough for safe investment to pay off.
>>
>>31829764
It's safe but it's not like we plan on investing everything we own and the Kihara's are filthy rich so we should get some good returns even with 45 grand USD worth put it. Kongou we should invest a little later. Maybe 10 Grand USD and let it slowly build up. Our Asuka connection is useful there. One of the key things is not to invest all in one place and to keep a good amount behind just in case we need to pull out fast.

Slowly you wheeled over to Bandana. He’s still sweating bullets and every creak of your wheelchair seemed to make him twitch. You stopped shortly in front of him, and slowly you grasped the armrests and got up. You made a show of it, slowly rising and unfurling to your full height which was a few centimetres taller than he was. You looked down at him.

“I told you to not make me leave this chair,” you repeated.

He took a step back.

“Now take your friends and leave before I change my mind.”

“Yes boss,” he stammered before attempting to help his friends out.

“うむ, you are money well spent,” Nunotaba spoke.

The clapping continued even though she wasn’t. Standing at the door was Sparky and she was the one clapping.

“Nice moves, even if you do act like a thug I guess you can still show mercy huh?” she greeted.

You simply slump back in to your wheelchair and pop another pill just for good measure.

“’Act like a thug?’ Really Sparky?” you asked jokingly

“You know the Original huh?” Nunotaba muses.

“Original?” Sparky turned to your employer, “What are you talking about?”

“ほぅ, haven’t you heard the rumours then?” Nunotaba asked in turn.

As far as you’re aware, you haven’t.

“The rumours of clones?” Sparky suddenly exclaimed, “You know something about them?”

Clones huh? If you remembered, Nunotaba had been done a project on something like that once. Was it perhaps related? Before you could ask about it though Nunotaba smacked The Railgun down with her bookbag, giving some kind of ominous warning as she closed and whispered in your ear,

“Burn the document in the desk drawer. I’ll handle The Railgun.”

She led Sparky out and you found the documents. It was a research paper on Project Radio Noise.

The front page was the title and abstract.

“The Effects of Distributed Experience over the Misaka Network and Testament
“Nokleben K., Amai A., Kusakabe Y., Kanmi E., Nunotaba S.
“The effects of Testament are well known and documented. It is a learning tool and used primarily to teach the products of Project Radio Noise. However, the emergence of the AIM network (henceforth Misaka Network) as a result of the nature of Project Radio Noise could pose potential complications and interfere with the workings of Testament. This paper explores the potential effects the Misaka Network could have on the workings of Testament. Working in conjunction with the developer of Testament, it was concluded that the Misaka Network poses no danger, interference nor any discernable side effects to the workings of Testament and vice versa.”

You weren’t interested in it anyway. Taking out the lighter you lit up the bundle of dead trees and wheeled yourself out. The only evidence of it existing would be the ashes that were left and your brief glance at it. Nunotaba was waiting outside, apparently satisfied with your work as smoke started to escape through the windows. Sparky was nowhere to be seen but it wasn’t like you were worried about the third ranked Level 5 anyway.

“よっしっ, looks like we’re done for today,” Nunotaba said, “If I need you tomorrow or in the future I’ll be sure to call you.”

Then she leaves. The time is now evening, the weather is cooling and the date remains unchanged.

You were your way home when you were accosted Sparky.

“Hey,” she greeted you again.

“Well hey to you too Sparky,” you replied.

She seemed to be unsure how to proceed with this. If any previous experience with her came to mind, she’d probably beat whatever she wanted out of you as you were a “thug” after all. The only reason she was hesitating was probably because you were in a wheelchair.

“What do you want Sparky?” you asked, “You’re not asking me to sneak you in to Touma’s dorm now are you?”

“What?” she was jolted out of her silence, “No! I definitely do not need your help to sneak in to his dorm.”

“Whatever,” you laughed, “Come on, walk with me. You look like you wanted to talk.”

As you continue on your way she joined you.

“So how’d you end up in that?” she started.

“Bunch of thugs with stilettos,” you lied as easily as you did to Sagara, “Just goes to show that even with all these fancy powers we’re still human. What about you? How’s being a Lady of Tokiwadai treating you?”

“Kuroko’s still trying to, well you know she’s in to girls,” Sparky replied.

“You sure she’s just not really in to you?”

“Who knows,” she shrugged, “Anyway, I also heard about Kudou, she’ll be alright.”

“I don’t doubt that,” though you had your doubts.

“The rumours about you have pretty much stopped,” Sparky continued, “It’s like its all old news now and everything. Now it’s all ‘ooh it’s the Railgun’s clones’ or ‘there’s money cards in the alley’. Spent the whole day searching the city with Saten.”

So that’s where Saten was finding her extra spending money, you mused.

“You wouldn’t know anything about the rumours would you?”

Ah, and there was her question.

“Well, too bad for you but I don’t really keep up with gossip,” you reply, “Why, you think I know something?”

“Well I kinda want to get to the bottom of the rumours seeing as they concern me. I mean finding Nunotaba being the source of the money cards is great and all but.”

“Well I might know something,” you started, “How much you willing to part with for the information though?”

“Seriously? I thought we were friends,” Sparky protests.

“This is business,” you shrugged, “A man’s got to eat you know? Your Highness probably spends more in a day than I get in a month.”

“Alright already,” she pulled out some money cards, “I have, 60,000 yen combined in these, that enough?”

“For some names,” you gladly pocketed them, “I’m only going to say them once, so listen up, Nokleben K, Amai A, Kusakabe Y and Kanmi E.”

“Thanks, I guess,” she was probably suddenly feeling very sorry for that impulse purchase.

“No problem, it was nice doing business with you,” you reassured her, “Tell you what, you should probably look in something called Testament as well. Call it a friendly freebie.”

“Heh,” Sparky lightly punched your shoulder, “I guess I got some new leads then.”

Once you were safely back in your apartment you got started on dinner. It was another omelette. You couldn’t neglect the Columbus Egg exercise now. There was a plenty of time before you were tired enough for bed too so you could take a shower and then do something. It wasn’t late enough to call Asuka, just to check up on her, so you probably could do that. There’s also THIEF’s membership application form. You’ve only partially solved it at glance but you had yet to devote some effort in to solving. There were also your extra credit books and the gun, the latter of which could probably use some maintenance even if you didn’t plan on using it.

You decide to give Asuka a call over dinner. It was too late now and you were sure she wasn’t asleep yet. Or maybe she was as you wait endlessly. Eventually the voice messaging system comes on and you leave a message just asking her call back whenever she’s free. Once you done with dinner you emptied your pockets again and took stock of your inventory. The THIEF Membership Application form was taunting you again with its incompleteness and you decided to try and figure it out.

Staring at it was frustrating but there’s definitely a key here. You filled in the form with the chickenscratch you called your handwriting and all that was left was to figure out where the letters went. In between your bouts of frustration you started fiddling with the M1911. It was something to occupy your mind whilst you remained stumped. A few hours later you managed to reload the gun with your mind and was only slightly closer to figuring out the puzzle.

“Complete the following: You’re waifu a shit,” was the first part of the puzzle.

Yawning you were going to call it a night, so you decided to get some reading done.

You are Jaswinder Kaur, Kaoru to your Japanese friends, and sometimes you hated your job. Magicians had been described as children meddling with forces they should leave well alone. Most magicians often had a reason to, whether it was noble or not. Many of them knew the risks involved when they started dabbling in the mystical. That didn’t make the pain of loss any less great. There wasn’t even enough of a body left to bury, only ashes. At least he died fighting his sworn enemies. His name was Hazrat005, “All monsters shall cower in My presence,” and he was a going to be missed.

However that paled in to comparison to the innocent lives lost. They had no involvement at all and it wasn’t made any easier when you were obligated to by your code to protect them. You didn’t begrudge Kyril for making that call however. He was only doing the job you asked him to do. You were only slightly disappointed to know that he was no stranger to death, or killing. He was just another in a string of disappointments ever since you resolved the Index incident.

Now you were going to have to speak to the new Anglican agent. From the rumours and the briefing you got he was,

You were meeting him at a fancy hotel in School District 3. It was the one for foreigners and looked really lavish. Silently you wondered why there a gap between him and you, or where the former Anglican priest resided. Still you walked up calmly up to him. He was having lunch and was polite enough to offer you something to eat or drink at his expense. Seeing as he hadn’t hypnotised the staff, you checked, you were pretty sure he wasn’t going to poison you, not that poisons worked or anything. You carefully noted the presence of a cup that used to hold some tea.

He seemed friendly enough in his greeting but he could only just be observing the barest niceties of human interaction. His reputation for riches was well deserved if his plate and his attire were any judge. He introduced himself as Lord Kudou Tomohisa, a simple information broker. It meant he was a spy then, you concluded. As was agreed, you gave him the barest amount of information concerning the incident with Teacher and Deep Blood. Whilst the latter was technically under the protection of the Anglicans, they had little desire to devote more resources than necessary. That meant leaving her to fend for herself in Academy City. The city had its own problems but at least it wasn’t completely lawless. Your dealing with the Lord was cordial at the very least so that was a welcome surprise.

He wished of course to know more Torikov-san. It wasn’t surprising. Here was a child of the science side working hand in hand with magicians. Not to mention that Torikov was also dating the Lord’s daughter.

It was strange you thought, as you talked with the man, how neutral he could look. Any more and he’d look perpetually displeased at something. The other strange bit was how little mana there was around him. In fact, you could say that he wasn’t capable of manipulating it at all. That however was surely a disguise. It would be silly to not surpress the vast amounts of power he held, especially in such a peaceful setting. You always did that, not only was it polite, it also served to make enemies underestimate you. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, you just assumed that he was being polite.

Seeing as Lord Kudou was already well versed with the ongoings of the non-magical side you elect to give him a better picture of Torikov’s involvement in the magic side. You tell him of his reaction to meeting an Anglican for the first time. Lord Kudou frowned at that, no doubt from the fact that his colleague was tossed off the third floor. Then you told him of his kidnapping at the hands of a saint, and how he resolved the conflict with words. That, along with his involvement with The Index elicited a smile. It was when you got to his association with Teacher and encounter with a vampire did the Lord lapse in to silent contemplation. You gave him all the time he needed as you consumed your ordered chicken pilaf.

Finally he asked of you of his daughter.

>>

cloaking field I guess

or maybe we need eyebrows for Teacher's spell to work
>>
>>31836110
I imagine it's due to the null magic shit she feels. He probably fucks with mana as part of his magic so there isn't any to view around him.
>>
>>31836244
Or maybe he isn't magic and is just an information broker.
>>
>>31836110
Wait isn't super special rainbow colored snowflake the accelerator going to show up on it? I remember mechs and the fucking poster boy for mary sue' turning into a fucking angel and only sweating instead of exploding when he used magic or some shit

Kyril simultaneously pisses off the magic god and Alaster at the same time.

Antarctica is a beautiful place.

Don't forget Aiwass!
Though, pissing off Aiwass would be an accomplishment unto itself.

You had many concerns regarding his daughter. Your interactions with her had been brief, sometimes violent. It was the kind of thing he disapproved of. He was getting easier to read you surmised. The reason he was asking was because she refused to talk to him. This lack of communication was only made worse since he sent her away to Tokiwadai. You wonder why she turned out the way she did but it seemed rude to pry in to the Kudou family’s circumstances. Still it looked he was estranged with his daughter and was suffering as a result. Thus you were not dishonest in regards to your description of his daughter.

Magical blood thirsty sword aside, you make a point of her behaviour straying far from the norm. She too, was like her sword, seeking conflict to satiate her desire for it. Lord Kudou seemed to deflate a little but urged you on. Her interest in Torikov was thus simply a happy, or unfortunate, coincidence. You think that their natures were simply a product of neglect, or an inadequate upbringing, though you could not fault Torikov nor Kudou for it. Of course the Lord had suspected as much and thanked you for your honesty. He wasn’t so much remorseful as he was disappointed in himself. No, you think that perhaps he harboured hatred of self for that particular failing.

Perhaps that was why when he had asked you to at least promise him something you promised to,
>Ensure that Torikov’s intentions remain pure
>Ensure that Asuka’s excesses were curbed

cockblock comedy shenanigans

Failings aside the man is still a concerned father.

As funny and frustrating as it would be to be cockblocked for the rest of your life by a level 12 wizard.

Yall fuckers remember that nat 1?

Well depends on how much she tries to jump in. The solution might not be giving Asuka the D.

The rumours were wrong, as they often were, he was only rich. Apathetic, Lord Kudou was not. He was simply a man who rarely showed his emotions. In business it would make sense but here the topic was perhaps too close to his heart to mask everything. As such you could easily promise him that you would ensure that Torikov’s intentions remained pure. His daughter’s business was his own but you could at least protect her from any potential depredations. It was not the physical kind, for you knew Torikov was no stranger to lying. The distraught father reassured, you thanked him for the meal and left.

The time is now afternoon, the weather is sunny and the date is August 10.

You swore you heard words float by you. They sounded like,

“けいかく どぅり”

You paid it no mind.

Interlude end. We resume on Friday, if I get my thesis shit in order.

Clearly we need to somehow introduce alcohol into his system. He can't calculate if he's drunk.

Accel won't show up on manavision because he doesn't even learn it exists until waaaaay later than this. It's not an innate thing in people, they have to learn how to do it. Only reason he doesn't explode when he does it is because he has to devote a ton of effort to using his esper ability to keeping his body together when he casts. A very, very simple locating spell that could hardly be considered a spell gave him more trouble than any of the massive bullshit feats he's pulled in the series. He can't just do magic whenever, and it's not even really worth it for him to use it.

At one point, enemy magicians trick him into casting something by accident and it fucks him up pretty bad.

Now, if Kakine ever got magic... Well that would be insane. He could have darkmatter clones cast spells for him all the time no problem.
>>
>>31837672
I was talking about Accelerator. He can't very well calculate how to kill us if he's drunk of his ass.
>>
>>31837801
>Kakine
>Magic

Oh hell. Whats worse he could just have a bunch of clones learn everything and he would know it. Fucker just won't ever die.
