/tg/ - Traditional Games

You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

While looking for Sylvie, you and Karel ended up meeting her little sister Racquel for the first time. It was rather traumatic.

After getting the hell away from her, you managed to find Sylvie, and Karel helped convince her to come along to assist in getting your sword fixed. Now all you need to do is retrieve the fragments of your sword from your room.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

"I guess we just wait here for him to get back, huh," Karel says as she leans against the wall next to Sylvie.
"I guess," Sylvie mumbles.

Though Karel can't exactly say that she's been through anything similar to how Sylvie's current situation, she's still not about to just ignore someone who's clearly depressed. And a month of dealing with the moody Emilio has taught her anything, it's that the best way to handle stuff like this is to take the depressed person's mind off what's getting them down. Even if thy usually go right back to being depressed after the conversation ends.

Still though, it's better than nothing.

As long as she doesn't say the wrong thing and get punched.

"So..." Karel begins. "What do you usually do around here?"
"Hm?" Sylvie turns to Karel. "What do you mean?"
"Like in your free time, I mean. I'm trying to figure out what there is for m to do after I get dismissed for the night, that kind of thing."
"Oh. I used to just hang out with Nicolette and Reinhold after they got done with their work for the day, eating together and giving Reinhold magic lessons," she sighs. "but I guess that might be changing since Nicolette and Melanie are an official couple now and even Reinhold's..."

As Sylvie's expression darkens more and more with each word she says, Karel quickly realizes that her question only served to make things even worse.

>[1/?]
>>
>>31771319

"S- sorry, I didn't mean to depress you or anything!" Karel stammers.
"No, it's fine," Sylvie shakes her head. "I'm just going to have to et used to it..."
"Anyways, you said something about magic lessons?"
"Yeah, I taught Reinhold the basics," she says nodding.
"Umm... how hard was it for him to figure that stuff out?"
"It only took him a couple of days to cast his first spell," she replies. "why did you want to know?"
"Eh, I was thinking about getting Emilio to teach me and I was wondering how long it would take for me to be able to understand the basics," she says with a nervous laugh. "Just something to pass the time, you know?"
"Oh. So you just wanted to learn as a hobby or something?"
"More like a backup, I guess," she shrugs. "The past few fights I've been in have made me realize that I'm completely useless in a fight if I get disarmed... it's not like I can fall back on punching guys like you can."

Ok, whoops, time to take her mind off of that thing...

>it's not like I can fall back on punching guys like you can.
Aaaaand bring up another thing she was freaking out about.

Karel's definitely got a talent for accidentally bringing up traumatic things without realizing it, I'll say that much.
>>
>>31771394
Oh, she could.
But she's beyong useless in a fight without a sword in her hands. At Reinhold has his knifery skills to fall back onto, Karel doesn't even have that.
>>
>>31771363

"So I was thinking that maybe I could take Emilio's mind off things and make myself a bit more useful at the same time, you know?" Karel says. "And getting him to help me with something that he knows about but I don't might boost his confidence too."
"Oh," Sylvie nods. "I understand what you mean..."
"That depends entirely on if he'll even want to, though," she shrugs. "For all I know, he might think that it's a massive pain in the ass and refuse."
"I don't think he will," Sylvie replies with a weak smile. "No matter how tired I might be, I'm always happy to help Reinhold with new spells and stuff..."

And then that weak smile turns into a frown.

"...or at least I used to be," Sylvie sighs.
"C'mon," Karel sighs. "I'm sure that he'd still be happy to get magic lessons from you."
"But Luciana-"
"She'll be staying at her uncle's place after today. Out of sight, out of mind and all that, you know?"
"I guess..."
"And hey, you can always teach me magic if Emilio decides not to!"

Karel punctuates that last remark with her best reassuring smile... but it only serves to make Sylvie think that Karel's trying to hit on her.

A wave of annoyance washes over you as you look at the state of your things. ...actually, you don't generally want to punch people when you're only annoyed, this is definitely something worse.

The suitcase with your clothes in it is upside-down, clearly having fallen off of your desk (what kind of idiot would even think that was a good idea to begin with?). And as a result, both the doodle-covered papers and the BRAND-NEW SKETCH BOOK that were previously lying on top of your desk are now all torn up. As for the bag with the things that you personally carried onto the carriage with you (that also contained the fragments of your sword), it's lying on your bed with its contents strewn about.

You reeeeeeally want to punch whoever they had bring your things up to your room.

After taking a few minutes to put everything back in place, you walk over to your bed and carefully pick up your bag, allowing the remaining contents to slide onto the comforter. Fortunately, all your books are still intact, as is the one that Marianne lent you.

You don't even want to think about how she'd react if her book was ruined.

Thankfully, the bundle containing what's left of your sword is unharmed. With a sigh of relief, you do a quick inventory of your things to make sure that nothing's missing, you carefully pick the bundle up and make your way out of your room. While you'd definitely like to continue picking things up in here, you -are- kind of on a timelimit here, not to mention that you have two people waiting for you.

Fortunately, they don't seem to be too annoyed with you.

I'm assuming they have keys, but yes, the rooms do have magic to prevent someone forcing the door or picking the lock. Presumably they can also be extra-locked from the inside to prevent someone just swiping a servant key, but that's not really relevant since we weren't inside the room at the time.

As far as we know there is nothing preventing a sufficiently sneaky person from either sneaking in when someone is entering/exiting the room, or stealing a servant key and entering an unattended room at their leisure.

Luciana is probably going to eat fancy Princess dinners with Marianne most days. But we don't attend fancy Princess dinners, on account of not being a Princess and much preferring to gorge ourselves in the staff cafeteria where we don't need to worry about silly things like "manners" or "eating at a normal human pace".

As such, Sylvie's worries that our dinnertime ritual will suffer significant disruption are unfounded.

As the three of you head back downstairs to Niklaus's study, you hear the girls talking behind you.

"So, umm..." Karel begins, "...that huge guy I saw you with back at the gate is your father?"
"Yeah," Sylvie nods. "You didn't know that I'm Sir Vincent's daughter?"
"Uh- no, it's not that," she shakes her head. "It's just that umm, I wouldn't have made the connection if I didn't already know. Aside from the hair color, you don't exactly resemble the guy," she says with a nervous chuckle.
"Trust me, that's far from the only thing I get from him..." she replies
"Oh yeah, the super punching thing. How long did that take you to learn, anyways?"
"A few months," Sylvie replies. "My father actually rewrote his attack spells just so that I could use them, but he's not all that good at making them understandable."
"That's still pretty awesome, though!" Karel pats her on the shoulder. "And your old man must love you a whole lot if he went through that much trouble just so that you can fight with him."

"'Collected works?'" Karel asks.
"Yeah, she writes stories," Sylvie replies. "About her hobbies. Mostly they involve boys doing things to other boys and I don't want to say any more because it creeps me out just thinking about it."
"And she was keeping them in your room?" you ask.
"Yeah, she insists on keeping everything she writes," she sighs. "Something about 'seeing the progression of her craft,' but my mother's just taken to burning whatever she writes in."
"Uh, does your father know about that stuff?" Karel asks with a slightly worried expression.
"No, and we intend to keep it that way," Sylvie says, shaking her head. "He knows that she's a pervert, but he doesn't know -how much- of a pervert she actually is and we all think it's best that he stays in the dark about that."
"At least now I know why you always thought that I meant something lewd whenever I asked for a sketching model," you say.
"Uh... yeah," she mumbles, looking at the floor. "That's why."

Deciding to simply leave it at that before you spoil Sylvie's visibly improved mood, you keep quiet for the rest of the walk to Niklaus's study while listening to Karel ask Sylvie questions about her father.

"And here we are back at this place," Karel sighs as she opens the door for you. "One of you can lead the way, I don't feel like having that weirdo drop from the ceiling in front of me."
"Oh, so he already..." Sylvie closes her eyes ans shakes her head. "Yeah, he does that a lot. I have no idea why."

As the only one out of the three of you who isn't overly bothered by Niklaus's eccentricities, Sylvie leads the way into his study. And much to your relief, Niklaus doesn't try to surprise you with one of his dynamic entries, instead greeting you by the table where his severed arm bones are displayed in a jar.

"Welcome back, Reinwald! Karel!" Niklaus says cheerfully. "...oh, and Miss Sylvie is here as well!"
"Hi, Mr. Niklaus," Sylvie says with a weak smile. "I see that you went and injured yourself while I was gone," she points to the remains of his arm.
"Yes, well..." he shrugs. "Things happen, as you well know. But anyways!" he claps his hands, startling both Sylvie and Karel quite a bit. "you certainly did take your time in getting back here, I suppose your delay was because you were looking for Miss Sylvie here?"

Vincent doesn't seem like the type to do something like that, if he's got a problem with someone I think he just yells loudly and punches until he feels better.

Though I suppose, hypothetically, if either of them ended up carrying bags for some strange reason and got over-enthusiastic about something as they were setting them down their ultrastrength could result in what happened, but I'm just not seeing a sequence of events that leads to that.

>"Welcome back, Reinwald! Karel!" Niklaus says cheerfully. "...oh, and Miss Sylvie is here as well!"
I had meant to bring this up before, but Niklaus is totally going to give away the game if he keeps calling Karel by her actual name even in spite of just having met her. I mean, we're still assorted Reinsomethings, but he's proven pretty good at remembering to call ladies by their actual name.

It's minor, but also suspicious to the degree that I wouldn't be surprised if Sylvie suspected something was up even as soon as the end of this meeting just by virtue of being familiar with Niklaus' eccentricities.

>>31775934
>expert luggage delivery by [...] Vincent
This actually strikes me as surprisingly plausible; he's the sort of guy who probably isn't too concerned with delicacy in general, and I can't imagine he'd make an extra effort to go out of his way to try and remedy that on our behalf given recent events. If so, it probably wasn't done on purpose; petty, vindictive little things don't really strike me as Vincent's modus operandi.

But just not really having our best wishes in the forefront of his mind and thus not thinking about it too hard and going "WELL, LUGGAGE DELIVERED. COOL. TIME TO GO DO SOMETHING ELSE." could be.

"Huh?" Karel says. "You guys have problems with the maids here? But isn't Melanie one, too?"
"Yes, and she is the loveliest and hardest-working of them all," Niklaus says with a long sigh. "But with old Gill too busy taking on the King's workload in his absence to handle his own butlery duties and Meruru not around to keep them on their toes, they tend to get... lazy."

That's certainly one way to put it.

What? He gets Karel and Sylvie right and those two have nothing in common except gender, and we know it is not about gender since he can mess up names from every gender.

That's certainly one way to put it.

"But that's enough about lazy fools," Niklaus says. "for we have work to do!"

He then slaps his hand on the table.

"I assume that the lump of cloth you're holding contains the pieces of your sword that shall be the base of today's experiment?"
"Yeah," you reply as you gently place the bundle on the table and unwrap it, revealing the broken sword pieces underneath. It's the first time that you've actually looked at them since the day of the duel, and it makes you feel kind of queasy for some reason.
"So this is it, eh?" Niklaus says as he pokes at them. "I suppose I should grab a pair of gloves so as to avoid slicing open my brand new hand and getting blood everywhere..." he mumbles.

Yes, that would be kind of bad.

Extending your wrist out over Niklaus's hands, you will your bracelet to melt off of your arm and onto his palms. While it's not much of a final sendoff, you felt the need to at least do -something- showoffy as your final act with it.

Your final act with it in the form on a bracelet, anyways.

"Be right back, ladies and gentlemen..." Niklaus says, examining the bracelet for a bit before flying into the back room far faster than could possibly be safe.

Though he's definitely proven by now that he cares very little for his own safety.

>also there is a definite pattern to the names that Niklaus gets right
Did a quick look through.

Names Niklaus has gotten right:
Karel
Sylvie
Vincent (though he's also called him "Sir Meathead", so this probably means it's not just out of respect for having beaten him in a duel. Niklaus also got his name right after just having been beaten up by him, so this might enter into it as well.)

Names Niklaus has gotten wrong:
Reinhold
Gregory
Gerhard
Guillaume (Nicolette's brother)
Bernard

Names Niklaus has gotten both right AND wrong:
Guillaume (Arnaud) (Called him by his proper last name after his duel with Sylvie, but has also called him "Gill". Maybe last names are exempt or something? I dunno.)
Melanie (Usually gets it wrong, but got it right once during the Bernard/Guillaume interlude. Probably a mistake rather than an exception.)

>>31776619
>>31776633

This is definitely worth mentioning. Even if we don't know the full details, it's definitely in the same ballpark as some of Niklaus' experiments at a glance.

So it's less a matter of figuring out who he calls by their actual name, and more a matter of figuring out who he calls by their actual name to their face.

Which, thusfar, has only been Sylvie and Karel.
>>
As you wait for Niklaus to come back, your thoughts drift towards magic-related oddities that you never got a chance to ask about and other things in that area. And one thing in particular that comes to mind is that odd armor that Giancarlo was wearing.

"The other day..." you begin, "Giancarlo had that weird armor on. You think that maybe that has something to do with these crystal parasite things?"
"Hm?" Sylvie turns to you. "I doubt it, those things don't react with the human body like that."
"Oh," you shrug.
"Armor..." Karel mumbles. "...oh, you mean that combination thing that him and Prince Alberto do?"
"I guess?"
"I asked Emilio about that last night," she nods. "That's like a game that those two have or something, Giancarlo acts as the 'body' while Prince Alberto is the caster, I think that's how he put it. There are way too many flight spells out there...

The first route is boring to a lot of people because it takes so much time establishing the setting and characters rather than cutting to the chase, so if you stopped before hitting UBW route then yes it gets better.
>>
>>31777088
Opinions opinions.

Then again anyone who contests that is a weeaboo faggot.
>>
>>31777031

"Yes, you do have a point there..." Niklaus says, scratching his chin. "Well you can at least help me place the pieces of Reinhund's sword back in the right places before we begin, yes?"
"I guess that won't hurt..." Sylvie says as she puts the gloves on.

As the two start on piecing your sword back into its original shape (or as much as it can be), Karel turns to you.

"Uh... he got beat up by Sylvie's father? Sir Vincent?"
"Yeah, that's what I heard at least," you reply.
"And he's still alive?"
"Looks pretty alive to me," you shrug. "He looked pretty horrible after that one time that Sir Vincent punched him in the face for accepting a duel with Sylvie, and I remember that someone told me that Niklaus and Sir Vincent had a duel that made a lake or something?"

Karel simply stares at you in horror as you assault her ears with secondhand tales of madness.

What's it meant to mean? Does 'kill' mean something else in japanland?
>>
>>31777107

Actually, that's mainly things that Nasu works on.

Fate/Zero is Infinitely better than Stay Night.
>>
>>31777112

Yeah. It's like getting brutalized real hard, only you don't necessarily ded afterwards.
>>
>>31777094
The animu and movie are shit. Fate is worst VN route. UBW is best overall and Heaven's Feel had best finale buildup.

But wormslut a shit and worst girl.
>>
>>31777112
As it was explained to me, which makes sense given my limited barely-functional knowledge of the language, is that the verb for "getting fucken rekt" translates to "killed" even though it doesn't literally mean "to die".

So in a literal translation, you can get "killed" without dying.
>>
>>31777128
So really the line is "People die when they get rekt"
>>
>>31777131
Basically, yes. So be careful not to get rekt or else you might die.
>>
>>31777128
At last, I truly see
>>
>>31777109

It takes maybe ten minutes for the two of them to finish placing the pieces where they need to go, resulting in something akin to what your sword would look through as reflected through a broken mirror.

And all of the pieces are indeed there, nothing is missing!

"Alright, Niklaus sighs, "now it's time for the hard part," he says as he picks up the two bracelets and tosses one to both you and Karel.
"Go play with those while I take care of this," Niklaus says as he shoos the two of you away into a corner. "You too, since you'll only get in the way a this point," he says to Sylvie.

Remembering what Niklaus said about your sword "eating" your new bracelet, you make it a point to slip it over your right wrist, as it's your non-sword arm. Looking over at Karel, she seems a lot more into this than you are, probably because you're already used to this.

Just a thought but, would moving the new bracelet more to the elbow side of the forearm be an alright extra bit of failsafe? Or is this just me being paranoid?
>>
>>31777248
You can't manipulate its shape just yet, and the thing would just slide right back on down if you were to do that anyways.
>>
>>31777258
I'm gonna take that as DM speak for "It works, stop asking"
Though I'm still gonna worry
>>
>>31777180

The next few minutes are spent with you and Sylvie watching from the other side of the room while Niklaus chants what sounds more like random strings of words than actual spells and Karel plays with her new toy.

"It's not doing anything..." Karel mumbles as she pokes the bracelet with her finger.
"Oh yeah," you say. "It'll take like a day before you can really do much of anything with it. That's how it was with my first one, anywsys."
"Yeah, the aggregate needs time to infest the bracelet beforehand," Sylvie says.
"...oh," Karel says, pouting slightly. "So much for showing this thing off to Emilio today..."

The rest of... whatever it is that Niklaus is doing doesn't take much longer, and he calls the three of you back on over before you start getting too antsy. And then, you see it. Your sword. Back in one piece.

"It's like it never broke," you say as tears start to well up in your eyes.
"I'm glad that you appreciate my handiwork," Niklaus replies. "Your sword is good to go, though I'd suggest that you hold off on swinging it at all for the next day or two, it's still in a fragile state at the moment."
"Fair enough," you say as you pick it up, a big smile on your face. "It's back in one piece now and that's what matters."

So what kind of tricks can we pull off with our new upgrade? Can we literally control the blade the same way we did with the bracelet?
>Able to blunt the edge at will, disarming people without the loss of limbs.
>Never have to worry about sword breaking since you can just reform it.
>Turn it into a whipblade for a deadly surprise.
>Change the length of the blade midswing for some mindfuckery.
>Send shards as shrapnel.

"The same rules for the bracelet apply to the new sword," Niklaus says. "Though I'm sure you already knew that."
"Yeah," you nod.
"And I'll remind you again not to let the blade touch that new bracelet of yours... but aside from that, you're free to go!" he says with a snap of his fingers.
"Alright," you reply. "And thanks. I really mean it."
"Of course you do," he smirks. "All I ask of you is that you give me the occasional status update... I'm -quite- curious to see how this works out."
"Will do."

While Niklaus picks up the leftover things and makes his way back to the back room, you turn to Sylvie.

"And since this was your idea, I really need to thank you," you say.
"Umm... you're welcome..." Sylvie replies, her face suddenly turning bright red. "I'm just glad that it worked."
"Huh, so it really is back together," Karel says as she walks a full circle around you (and your sword). "Maybe I should rethink my opinion of that g-"
"Oh yes, that's right!" Niklaus says, floating backwards until he's -right- next to Karel. "I expect the same from you during your time here, pay me a visit every once in a while to show me the aggregate's progress, okay?"
"Y- yeah, sure," she says, shuddering.

As Niklaus once again resumes his flight to his inner sanctum, Karel speaks up.

"...no offense, but I'd like to get the hell out of here already."

>>
>>31777443

With that, the three of you make your way out of Niklaus's study and out into the far less foreboding hallways of the castle. Just as Rana's approaching. With Racquel in tow.

"Oh, hey!" Rana says, waving. "I was hoping to run into you over here."
"Hi, Rana. Racquel," Sylvie replies as she returns the wave. "You wanted something?
"Not really, your little sister was just continuing the tour of the castle."
"And it looks like someone's rather -satisfied-, Racquel says with an eerie laugh. "In a darkened room with two handome young swordsmen? And you're blushing while Reinhold has a wide smile on his face..."
"RACQUEL!" Sylvie shouts.
"What, you mean to say that you weren't enjoying their swor-OW!"

Cut off mid-sentence by a punch to the top of her head, Racquel crouches down and holds her injured skull with tears in her eyes.

"W- why'd you do thaaaat!?" she whines, her tone having suddenly changed to one much more suited to a girl her age. "You can't hit me like Sylvie does just 'cuz your boobs are as big as hers are!"
"No, I can hit you because your lovely mother told me that I could," Rana replies, her own tone of voice having changed as well to one much more adult than you're used to hearing from her.

"Nnnngh..." Racquel glares at the dragon girl, her eyes watering up. "That's not fair, only my big sisters are allowed to hit me!"
"Well then you can just consider me a 'temporary big sister,'" Rana replies, crossing her arms.
"Syyyylvieeee!!!" Raquel whines.
"You're not getting any help from me after what you just said, you little pervert," Sylvie rolls her eyes. "And if I find out that you've been hiding your stash in my room again, I'm gonna hit you even harder than Rana just did."
