Trying this once more

Dwarf: Forced to start in a mountainous region. Starts with iron tools, iron metallurgy tech, smithing tech, and brewing tech. Major penalty to magic, penalty to population.

Elves: Starts with mastery of one school of magic, starts with wooden bows. Major penalty to population.

Lizardmen: Start with wood working tech, starts with wooden spears, bonus to population, bonus to weapon&armor crafting. Cannot use magic, penalty to tech.

Humans: No bonuses or penalties.

Goblins: Major bonus to population, bonus to weapons&armor, starts with wooden spears and wooden bows. Cannot research tech, cannot use magic, carnivorous. Goblins gain technology by stealing enemies tech, smart goblins back engineer the tech so they can reproduce it.

Orcs: Bonus to population, bonus to weapons&armor. Penalty to tech, major penalty to magic, carnivorous.

Your Choice: Suggest an original race, the GM will state the penalties/bonuses for that race.

(Keep in mind you can change the effects of the races by adding a locational prefix, I.E Forest Goblins, Mountain Elves.)

OH LOOK ANOTHER CIV THREAD
>>
>>31770354
Just getting some DM experience. I'm open to suggestions.

still here OP? I'll play

Giants, (Frost maybe)

Or dark elves

One more bump and then I'll let this die.

Well, that was good timing. Giants or elves? Sounds decent. Lemme know if you make up your mind while I think up some bonuses/penalties
>>
Also, if you gave it a shot on /b you may get quicker responses. People are usually looking for civ threads there.

I understand if you are hesitant if you don't go there much but the civ people aren't so bad.

I can add an image used alot there if you would like

Add away! I'm just trying to get some experience and figured that /tg/ would have some sagely neckbears to help.
>>
>>31770884
Alright, Giants it is. Were you wanting a specific type, like Frost?
>>
>>31770977

I'm not picky, do it randomly or whichever one you would like to write the most. Anything interesting
>>
>>31771015
You can afford to be picky, if you like. The more prompts you give, the easier my job becomes.

For Giants in general, I'm thinking a major bonus to combat, a minor bonus to smithing (maybe?). a minor penalty to magic, and a major penalty to population. Does that sound good?

I'll need a location, too.
>>
>>31771158

Lets do mountains near forest, frost giants, or whatever you think is most suitable

>>31771213
So, a Norwegian fjord? Alright. Frost giants will get the obvious flame weakness and cold resistance. Intelligence will be average (dumb giants are boring).

>For Untold centuries, the Frost Giants had lived solitary lives, protecting their ancient lands against encroaching humans from the warmlands and goblins from the mountain innards. Dwarves too they had seen, although little was said between either race. Now, however, the push of the humans has begun to overwhelm the lesser frost giants and human encampments have sprung up in traditional Frost Giant lands. Against this threat, 10 Frost Giant families bonded together so that they might defend themselves better.

>The first Frost Giant settlement has been founded. No longer will families live in isolated coves. Behold your lands!
>>
I would have elaborated more but I thought I was taking a bit too long. Happy with the set-up? I'll rip off angrydorf for options

A. Scavenge for food.
B. Try to improve settlement.
C. Try to improve weapons&armor.
D. Try to improve technology.
E. Your Suggestion
>>
>>31771537

Thats perfectly fine with me.

If I could get stats that would help.

Also its storming, so if I don't respond the power went out and I will be back asap.

Have a few scavenge for food

Name a leader?

Have the rest improve settlement
>>
>>31771645
Right, stats.

Population: 50 adults, 17 children
Food: High (families brought food when you gathered. The settlement is ragtag but existent, with some work already done. You have some self-sufficiency)
Architecture: You've taken up residence in some caves, but most of them are a little too short for your liking
Weapons&Armor: No armor. Fists squash things nicely, tree trunks work too.
Tech: Lacking. Essentially stone age.
Defenses: None.

Jotunn, one of the biggest Frost Giants and the mastermind behind the settlement arises and begins dictating orders. 10 adults walk off in different directions with small boulders, ready to smash their prey. The rest begin fortifying the caves with loose stone in the fronts while the children play around them.

Defenses: Pathetic

B. Try to improve settlement.
C. Try to improve weapons&armor.
D. Try to improve technology.
E. Your Suggestion
>>
>>31771993

This, half make tree clubs

Half try to make living quarters more comfortable/more defense able
>>
>>31771911
We need stone tools. After that, we can work on proper fortifications.

Heighten the caves, build non-cave houses, make spears.
>>
>>31772030

This works, also we are waiting on scouts to return from searching for food

Also, where do I put the name to have it in the ID? I'm somewhat new to /tg
>>
>>31772082
put it in the name tab? Above the subject and email tabs?
>>
>>31771993

will answer this

>>31771995

C. One of the not-so-bright members of the newfound clan happily walks back into the camp, eager to show off his "prey": a tree trunk with a small boulder thoroughly lodged in it. Jotunn, not a fan of incompetency, uses the club to smack the dimwit upside the head. He hits a bit too hard, however, and knocks the poor fool right out.

Noting the usefulness of this, Jotunn decides to speed the process of "modernizing" and orders the clan members to utilize stone in their work.

Population: 50 adults, 17 children
Food: High
Architecture: Caves
Weapons&Armor: Stone Clubs
Tech: Stone tools
Defenses: Pathetic
>>
>>31772115

Never look up there heh. I could tell the box was bigger though.

>>31772126

Also we have scouts that haven't returned
>>
>>31772126
>Heighten the caves, build non-cave houses, make spears.

Next in line is walls? After that, it's a toss-up between farms/husbandries or mines/furnaces
>>
>>31772030

B. Disaster! A family was trying to expand their cave quarters by chipping away at the ceiling when the whole damn thing collapsed on them! The settlement grieves and begins expanding their caves downward instead.

Population: 48 adults, 16 children
Food: High
Architecture: Caves
Weapons&Armor: Stone Clubs
Tech: Stone tools
Defenses: Pathetic
>>
>>31772237
I remember the scouts. I'm just trying to figure out how much time should pass between events. Scouts should be back shortly, and possible with a surprise...
>>
>>31772250
I believe now we wanted to do scouting to get the lay of the land.

(E) Scouting. (10 people)
If we can break it up
(D) Research better building for caves.
>>
>>31772280

Sorry, not trying to be difficult.
>>
>>31772305

E. The rest of the hunters return (rather successfully), and in an animal skin bag that one of them carries Jotunn sees squirming. The hunters deposit their food in one of the cooler caves and return to dump out 3 terrified dwarves in front of you. "They were trespassing" explains one of the frost giants.

B3. Jotunn orders some food brought to the dwarves and squats down to come closer to their eye level. Though the dwarves are terrified, they are also quite livid at having been manhandled. Nevertheless, Jotunn's calm demeanor and his rebuke of the head scout Ymir settled the dwarves enough to speak of a Dwarven settlement a days journey up the river, next to a nearby mountain.

B. Frost Giants aren't idiots, and their technological backwardness had been a matter of preference and tradition. Nevertheless, in these trying times the Frost Giants were willing to do what was necessary to preserve their lands. The Giants took a break from expanding the caves and began clearing lands for farms.

The Dwarves

"What have you to trade with us, anyway? You have no economy! What wer-"
the lead dwarf bites his lip as his eyes spot a glint in the makeshift wall.
"Is that.... emerald?"

B. The meager cave walls are knocked down and reconstructed. Some logs are added to the rubble, making the walls slightlier sturdier

E. Noting the dwarves change in attitude after spotting the mineral, Jotunn orders scouts be sent into the deep tunnels to find more mineral deposits.

Continue to negotiate with them. Have them assist in building a forge.

>>
>>31773508
I had assumed stone tools included picks.

We should probably make some wooden carts, work on SHARP stone tools, tunnel design, and wooden supports.

That should be it for mines. We can work out furnaces and forges later.

Do we really need to trade now, though? Tech is what we mostly need.
>>
>>31773508
Stone on stone action and now trade metal for emerald.

>>31773481
(B3) Why yes it is. You wouldn't happen to be willing to give us some better tools and weapons for it would you?

... (D) yeah improve our stone tools for mining.
>>
>>31773610
I say if they do have metal and what not. Lets get better tools and other nicknacks from them. As well as getting a early friend. Could help to have them around.
>>
B3. An offer is extended to the dwarves: precious metal for technological knowhow and some assistance around the settlement. Given that the dwarves woke up this morning without no intention of negotiation with motherfucking FROST GIANTS, they're not too keen on the offer—however, the dwarves are also quite greedy, and so propose an offer: The dwarves return to their families and send a proper expedition later to establish trade.

D. The equipment that was on the dwarves has been studied by your more intelligent FGs, and by imitating the style your tools gain some efficency.

The Dwarves
B1: Accept offer and free them
B2: Reject offer and enslave them

Nice pali first of all

I'm thinking we should enslave those chumps and show them whose boss. Atleast for short time. maybe if they change their attitude they can go home.

Start mining, get an area ready to store ore for the forge when it is completed. Hopefully the scouts will return with good news.

Train with throwing rocks and with clubs is a good idea too. Maybe stockpile some throwing rocks at strategic places around camp.

Again, that's why we should leave furnaces for another time.
>>
B1. The offer is accepted, and teh dwarves leave with some haste.

B/E The entire settlement is mobilized to expand storage and brush up on combat skills. Jotunn knows better than to freely trust a dwarf. The caves are further improved with supports and tunnels within the mountain are carefully widened. This effort gives the frost giants quite an appetite and quite a bit of food gets eaten in an impromptu feast.
