General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible. There are occasional roles to keep things organic, but mostly it goes by voters choice. Unless specified otherwise, the best of 3 rolls is the result, and rolling high is good.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. Put your own spin on it, suggest dialogue, add an addendum, or anything else. Just because some options specify to write in, doesn't mean that they aren't welcome for anything else. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat is currently under revision and subject to change.

You slide your hand on Robin's butt and give it a light squeeze. "Cuddles sound nice."

She looks at you surprised. "K-Kat!" Her eyes dart to Jeanine and Vance to see if they're watching. Vance is heading into the tent, but Jeanine saw.

You give her that wicked smile of yours. "Hmm? Do you want more than cuddles? We're sharing a tent you know."

Robin blushes and scurries inside, you follow behind her as Jeanine laughs.

The four of you get ready for bed. It's been a hard day of training and relationship drama. Tomorrow, you'll be taking on the Clairborough gym.

You crawl into the sleeping bag with Robin. Vance and Jeanine sleep under a shared bed. They're whispering together quietly.

You cuddle with Robin, putting half your body on top of hers. "What was your life like back home?"

She's too tired to make a fuss about you doing this in view of Vance and Robin. "Hmm, oh, I don't know. Before I went traveling on my own, my dad would give me a lot of chores for the gym. He wanted me to take over when I was good enough, but he never really helped me practice. He always wanted to improve himself first. I think he thought it would bring mom back." Her eyes are closed.

"You haven't told me much about your mom." You leave. It's a question as much as a statement.

Robin's fallen asleep. You can't exactly wake her to pester her on the subject. There will be time later. You're sure she'll open up about it. She loves you. Right?

The next morning is hot and dry. You crawl out of the bag and tent to find breakfast waiting. It's good to be able to sleep in.

Oh awesome! Pancakes! Robin hands you a plate. Jeanine and Vance have apparently just finished a morning workout. Robin has her Golem out.

Robin smiles at you. "Ready for the gym?"

"Sure!" You instinctively put on an air of confidence.

Robin looks pretty pumped. Even Vance looks like he's ready to take on the world. Only one of you can take on the gym at a time though. Who should take it on first?

Vance and Robin look really sweaty after that morning exercise. If you lost the best with Vance, you would have had to do it too. Not that you hate exercise, but sleeping in is just something you associate with freedom. The orphanage had strict bed and wake up times. The nights you spent away in the forest or elsewhere were the best because nobody told you when to sleep or get up.

You're not really sure about who should go first. You look to Jeanine. "How about you? Want to take the gym on first?"

She laughs. "Just me and Scyther? I think that's a bit much."

You put your hands on your hips and roll your eyes. "Guess it's up to me then. Come on! Let's go to the Pokemon center!"

Everyone packs up and heads to the Pokemon center. You all submit your Pokemon to the nurse, shower and get ready. No time to mess around, none of you want to waste the good momentum you have here.

There's still a short time before the Pokemon are ready. Jeanine is about to call Professor Fir to ask about taking the Wartortle. She's the only one that doesn't look pumped. She seemed confident the night before, but you guess enough time has passed for her worries to come back. She hides it well though.

I seriously don't see the problem with owning more than 8 pokemon. we have established a rotation and they are not kept in dark dank cages, they run around the good Professor Fir's yard and frolic and have fun. I don't want to catch every single poke that walks, flies, swims, or hovers on this earth but if a wild poke is 1.) really strong, 2.) really cool, 3.) a typing we don't have or are lacking of, or 4.) an immediate danger to itself, its surroundings, or others. If it fits at least 2 of those criteria (or just meets the #4 condition) than I will vote to the throw the damn ball every time. I will not be swayed by cheap appeals to pathos that do not even remember what Gobble has said on the ethics of catching, raising, and training pokemon.

"Well hello there!" Professor Fir's familiar face and voice greet you.

You give him a warm greeting, you want to keep the positive energy going. "Hi Professor! How are Levi and Raistlin doing?"

"Oh just great! Raistlin and Leviathan have been very useful in my research. Both of them have very interesting, beneficial genetic qualities. Robin's Magikarp is looking strong too. I think he's going to be quite the powerful battler when he evolves."

That's good news. "Listen, Professor. Have you had a chance to examine those other Pokemon?"

"Oh yes! They're all looking remarkably well. They don't seem entirely clear on some issues, but I don't think they'll have a lot of trouble adjusting with a good trainer."

You look off to Jeanine and give her the chair. She slides in and begins talking to the professor. You give them privacy and pick up your Pokemon from the nurse.

You'll be going into a gym battle right away. If experience is anything to go off of, you'll probably need three Pokemon. You don't have to choose all three at once, but you'll need to select them from your group of six.

Of course, you'll rotate your Pokemon before traveling to the next town.

You decide not to trade anyone for Raistlin right now. It's always so hard to decide these things. You wish you could just carry them all with you.

Jeanine interrupts your thoughts when she comes back. "So that went differently than I expected."

Vance looks concerned. "What do you mean? He didn't want to give them to you?"

She holds out three Pokeballs. "Not exactly. I don't know what happened, I just couldn't take Wartortle, so I ended up adopting all three."

With everything finally set, you head to the gym. Vance is repeating moves and types to himself quietly. Robin has that same scared but determined face you've seen before. Jeanine looks like her mind is in another place with all of her new Pokemon.

The gym is an old converted warehouse. There’s very little decoration or anything at all that isn’t utilitarian in some way. High, thin windows surround the building near the metal ceiling. Spectators can watch matches from the overhanging walkways.

The arena are is a flat grey rectangle with some empty metal containers arranged throughout. That could make for decent cover.

What really grabs your attention though, is that there’s a large device on the challenger's side of the arena. It has a few computer displays that are blank right now. The centerpiece is a sci-fi looking helmet that hangs from the ceiling by thick cables.

Besides you and your friends, the only people here are a thin pale girl on a chair with her eyes closed and a well dressed girl a little older than you. She has a clipboard, dress pants, and a professional air about her.

The girl on the chair must be Vance's sister, Clair. She has his dark hair and large brown eyes.

that's the rub with QMing. average 6 hours and that's just for running a thread. Not even including the time for planning the adventure character etc, setting time aside for it, reworking mechanics and or plot.

and all for a usually volatile playerbase that will turn on you at the drop of a hat (if they aren't arguing with each other) over the dumbest of shit.

amateur writer expected to crank out 400 words every 30 mins in 6 hour time framewhich is why I assume every QM drinks heavily or REALLY likes their idea.

You walk up to girl with the clipboard. She has a whole strict librarian thing going on. "Umm hi. I'm Kat, I'm...we're here to challenge the gym." You refer to yourself and Robin. You figure Vance probably wants to announce his own challenge.

The girl checks her clipboard. "Very well, I'm assuming you want to challenge the gym now? There's an open timeslot."

Clair speaks in an echoing monotone. "Of course there is. I knew they'd be coming."

You, Robin, and Jeanine look at the creepy young girl on her chair in disbelief. She can tell the future?

She giggles. "I can't tell the future. Don't you know anything about psychics?" It's a childish giggle. The creepy facade breaks. "Vance? Is that you? Mom said you'd be coming."

You nudge Vance. "Hey, aren't you going to introduce me to your sister?" It only makes sense that he deliver the package too.

"Huh? Oh yeah." He walks over with the lockbox. "This is Jeanine, Robin, and Kat."

"Yeah. I already know that. Did you look in the box? Nevermind, you didn't." The way she asked betrayed a little insecurity. She almost drops the box before she hides it away. "You're challenging me?"

Vance holds his hands over his head. "Mom said you're not allowed to do that on me!"

She rolls her eyes. "Then stop shouting your thoughts so loudly." She turns to you and the other girls. "You have NO idea what it's it was like when he just entered puberty. I'm surprised any of you stay within five feet of him."

"Clair!" Vance is getting flustered. "My head is private!"

She laughs again. This time it's mocking. "You came here to challenge my gym. It's not like that would be a secret for long."

He's getting angry. "That's not the point!"

Robin looks uncomfortable. Jeanine looks angry too. She might snap at Clair.

And yes, if she keeps up the mind-reading during battle, its time to go full lewd thoughts of her. Possibly throwing in Robin and Jeanine if we really need to throw her off her game.

I'm sure we can be very 'loud' when we want to.

Now that you bring my attention back to that, didn't the League stop by recently to talk with her about how she runs her gym?
Might be the helmet's a new addition the League demanded to make it a bit more fair.

Or it could be the League was suspicious that she was tampering with it to keep up her advantage.

"If you're done being immature, I'd like to have a fight now."

All three of them stop and look at you. Clair smiles. "You seem fun. I'm tired of speaking anyways." She pushes Vance back and inch with her mind then sticks a hand up in the air and points it to the assistant. "Judy?"

Judy pushes her glasses up. "Yes. If you'll follow me." She leads you to that weird looking helmet device. There’s a small inscription. 'Understanding beyond words.'

“It was designed to let trainers communicate with their Pokemon without having to speak."

You feel a slight itch on your head. You look to Clair and see a smile. It's the type of smile you'd see on a child that got caught reaching into a cookie jar and didn't care.

The only defense you can think of is to fill your mind with something. You try picturing her naked. What does she look like? What does she smell like? What does she taste like? You go all out and try to imagine it as vividly as possible. You need more than that though. You try to imagine what sort of face she'd make if you did the same things to her as you do to Robin.

She blushes and looks shocked. She breaks eye contact with you, takes a calming breath. Her eyes jet open again and she looks at you harshly. You hear a thought that isn't your own. 'Is that all? Most guys do that involuntarily. All you've done is tell me about you and Robin.' Her face is still red.

Judy helps hook you up the machine. “Be careful, it’s still new. The League had an issue with this gym’s policy of forbidding words during battles. They said it was too big of an obstacle for trainers. This was a compromise.” Her tone is flat and factual. "You'll want to practice with your Pokemon first."

So that's this gym's gimmick; battling without words.

You send out Vlad and catch yourself before you announce him. You remind yourself to not speak.

Vlad does his usual loop.

This dumb helmet is pinching your hair.

Concentrate. Alright. "Vlad, fly over to me." You think the words at him.

Vlad reacts in confusion. You can actually feel his confusion. He wants to know why that didn't sound normal in his head.

You repeat it. "Vlad, fly over to me." This time you're louder, for lack of a better term. You feel clearer.

Vlad flies over to you. He looks like he's awaiting another command.

"Vlad, fly to Robin."

This time he does it without hesitating. Infact, it's faster than if you had to tell him. You give him the urge to do a loop, and he does.

You have to admit, it's pretty neat.

"Not the word I'd use, but yes, it's neat." You feel Clair think at you.

She's still in here? "Stay out of my head, or I'll start fantasizing about your brother next." You also 'lament the fact that you never taught Devon any dark type moves.' You hide that thought away, but you're sure she sensed it.

"I've seen him fantasize about girls before." She's always monotone when she talks in your head. It's eerie.

He was big. What would it feel like to have him inside you? You're sure you'd adjust, but the thought is still a little scary. That makes it more exciting though.

You can feel it barraging her like a storm. She's being blown back. She's supposed to be navigating your thoughts, but she's becoming a little clumsy as she tries to avoid certain ones.

"You can't beat me at this. I'm warning you. We'll go deeper if that's what it takes. I won't hold back any more." Clair's words contrast her detached tone.

All you wanted was a Pokemon battle.

You replace yourself with her in the fantasy. Her pale skin contrasts against his worker's tan. It's a mess of limbs and skin brushing against each other.

"W-what are you doing?" The first half of the sentence is panicked, but she goes back to monotone by the time she says 'doing.' There's a lot of control there.

Again, you ignore her. You put all the elements in place to make it as vivid as possible. You know how Vance smells when he's all sweaty. You've seen his lewd face a few times after he's had a drink or two and you and Robin gave him a show.

In your fantasy, you make sure that she's riding him. It works better that she's really into it here. It's your head, you're in control. You fantasize that she's into it. She loves it. She can't get enough. Now you have him flip her over and take her. She's driven him mad with lust. She's just so desirable that her own brother has to have her.

"Stop it!" She yells in your skull. There's definite emotion this time. It's a mix of shuddering, shame, lust and anger.

"Then get out!"

"No! You can't beat me at this! I told you!" She takes a mental breath. "That's it. We're going deeper."

"Bring it on." You open yourself. She's not invading your the deep recesses of your mind, you're opening the doors. "Good luck."

You're no longer vaguely aware of the gym and your thoughts. You've been transported to a different building. You know it's just in your head, but it feels so real.

Part of this place is the orphanage. It’s familiar walls with their chipped paint, rusted door hinges, and windows with dirt between the panes surround you. In another corner the walls are made of the forest you would run away to. The floors are the same pavement of the streets you would spent time on when you felt like looking for trouble. You know all of these places intimately.

Scattered throughout are newer things. You see Vance’s cape hanging on a coat rack. Robin’s choker necklace lays on a table. Even Jeanine’s white tank top lays on the floor. Your childhood friend Sarah’s friendship bracelet burns in the fireplace, never being consumed. There’s a hot cup of cocoa on the table like Mary used to make. She was the kind worker that you looked up to as an older sister, or even a mom.

There’s a painting on the wall that show’s you the telescreen view you see when you call Professor Fir.

There are small plastic toys on all your Pokemon. They look so lifeless. You want to hold them.

This is your mind.

“Nice place, how about a tour?” You turn around and see Clair standing there, looking around. There’s a thin purple cord of energy going from the back of her head out the door. Through the window, you see it lead off into the distance to a grand castle.

What did Jeanine say about psychics again? They deal with facts wrapped in metaphors and avoid getting emotional because they can’t filter it.

Anything but going to her "castle". That'd just make her try to disconnect, and we get nowhere.

This place seems to have our memory spread all throughout it. The objects should have emotions attached to them, and exposing Clair to those emotions would royally fuck her up.

Flute would work. There's a lot of emotion there. There's also the bracelet, and then there's the whole place.
>>
You know, in hindsight, I'm glad we went first.
I'm not sure Vince or Robin could take invasive attacks like this yet, and having to watch them go through this would be terrible.

"Fine, but I want a tour of your place when we're done."

She gives you a suspicious look that quickly turns mocking. "Hmph. Sure. You'll back out before then anyway." She puts on an air of being unimpressed. "This is a weird house."

"It's an orphanage," you correct her. You look at the parts that are cobblestone and forest. "Mostly."

You instinctively know everything here. What it does, how it works. This is your domain. You control it all.

Where are you going first?

There would be any backlash from that though.

The backlash would come from overcooking the bullshit until it became as bad as a Korean drama.

You head to the bedroom. You never had your own room. Sometimes there was enough space for kids to get their own rooms, but they never trusted you with that.

"That's where I slept." You point out your bed. It's the one next to the window.

"It looks like a dorm." Clair looks around. "Still, not really bad."

"When I was young, I liked being by the window. I watched outside for my parents to come and find me." You laugh at the foolishness. "I thought they'd just come in the window and pick me up. Like they'd just remember they left me here."

Clair looks up at you. "What happened to your parents anyway?"

You smile. This is more silly than sad to you. "I don't know. I'll never know." You prop the window open. They had a lock, but you knew how to get around it. "When I was older I'd sneak out. Mostly just to get into trouble. There was a boy though." Her eye arches. You continue. "He was cute. A lot older. He made me feel old and cool. I'd sneak out to meet him every night. One day I sneak out a little early and catch him on the phone talking about me. I listened in. Who wouldn't?" You laugh. "He was talking about how he had be wrapped around his finger. He bet his friends he'd bang me by the end of the week."

"So what, did you kick his ass?" she plays with the lock you easily opened.

"I let him get pretty far anyway." You shrug. "Sad as it is, he was the only person who even pretended to like me. I thought I could change him."

She looks up. "I've seen some dumb relationships, but that's one of the worst."

You agree. "Eventually it came out in the open and we fought about it. I asked if he thought I was only worth that amount." You look out the window at the yard where it happened. "'Don't be silly. You're not worth the ink printed on it.' He laughed. His friends laughed." You sigh. That always stung. You brought that one on yourself from being a dumb naive girl.

You leave the room and flip a switch, bringing the place to life. People from your memories start appearing all over. Clair follows close by.

At first when we asked him why we hadn't been adopted yet, he'd tell us some bullshit about having "not found the right fit". We always suspected he was full of shit, but by the end he stopped even pretending. He flat-out told us it was because nobody wanted a kid like us.

At first they didn't hate her. I mean, sometimes she got picked on, but that just happens, because kids are tiny little Hitlers.

Kat didn't want to make too many friends after most of hers were adopted, and most of the other kids avoided her because of her reputation for troublemaking and for not getting picked. That quickly turned to more bullying, which caused Kat to lash out more, and eventually she ended up hated.

Mr. Bowlie always wore dress shirts and a tie. At first he never talked to the kids directly. He gave the workers and volunteers instructions. One of your earliest memoeries was accidentally calling him Grandpa. You heard the term on TV. Since he was older than everyone else, you just assumed that's what he was.

It was a long time before the other kids let you forget that.

Still, he seemed endeared by it. He was a stern man that didn't show much emotion, but he let you visit his office every week. He even had candy in a jar he'd let you have. You'd ask him if he found you anybody to adopt yet. At first he'd avoid the question, but you always persisted. Eventually he'd placate you by saying that they hadn't found the right ones yet.

Before long, you weren't visiting him, you were being sent to his office.

"What am I going to do with you?" He said in exasperation.

"Find me parents," You answered. "Then I won't be your problem."

He looked up from his desk. That's one of the few times you've seen him express anything. His eyes showed the hopelessness of the situation. "I'll see you next week when you get in trouble again."

You were sent to his office the next week on schedule. It wasn't planned, but you got in trouble anyway. You had broken Mrs. Carpenter's ashtray. She mentioned that her kid had made it and your wrecked it in a fit over being yelled at for something. It turns out her kid had died a few years ago. That's why she decided to volunteer at the orphanage. You always felt horrible about that. The look over her face...

Everyone loved Mrs. Carpenter.

Mr. Bowlie began hitting you with the belt that day. It was never excessive, and as far as you know he never did it to any of the other kids. He'd say all these lines about how you forced him to resort to this. He ran out of other options to keep you in line. It didn't work. Sometimes you thought he was just taking out his frustrations. Still, at least he cared enough to try hard.

Clair is seeing the same thing. She's dropped the veneer of being unimpressed and just looks uncomfortable.

You see a more recent memory now. He's just finished giving you the belt. You decked a kid that told you that you'd never get adopted. You explained exactly what he said to you to Mr. Bowlie.

"You can't hit someone for telling the truth." He didn't bother to mince words. "Nobody is going to take you away, no matter how hard I try." He sighs. "Three more years."

When you decided to get your Pokemon license, he laughed. He openly said he that he wished he had thought of that years ago.

Dick. Whatever. You were happy to leave. He'll change his tune when you're a famous trainer.

It was raining. Kat had just gotten in trouble again and burst out running. But this time, running only made it worse. This time, she slid down a muddy hill and broke her ankle.

It was the next day before she managed to limp back into the orphanage. Nobody even bothered to fucking look for her.

Possible suggestion: the bracelet Sarah gave to Kat. She was the closest thing Kat ever had to a sister, and they were separated. Sarah got picked, Kat got left behind. She always gets left behind, and she still has trouble dealing with it.

Not like Clair. Clair has a brother: an actual brother. But he's always grown up in her shadow, and he still resents her. There's a distance between them even when they're in the same room, and it's got to drive Kat nuts.

This is good, I like this. Turn the suffering on Clair. She thinks she can come in to our mind, that she's stronger than us? Think again, she's no different from anyone else, and that has got to bother her in some way since she's such a prodigy and she's so confident.
>>
We need something to explain Kat being such a good flirt. Like throwing herself at anybody she thought might pay attention to her.

Maybe she tried to seduce a few older men into adopting her.
