It's all you can do not to shatter the soulstone in your hand, but Ja'al is adamant it stay alive, mostly on the principal that removing souls from the cycle is... terrible.

You rise from your chair, mind all over the place. The protections that were all in place, as far as you can tell, are now without power. You have at best a few hours until the Rakshasa attack, and you're sure that the Tou leader knows the former if not the latter.

Worst of all, it happened within merely an hour of your arrival.

What to prioritize... We have so little time!

>We need to secure the Princess to safety.
>We need to restore the barrier immediately.
>We need to prepare the defenses as soon as possible.
>We need to stop the incoming army, somehow, and soon.

She already should have her own bodyguards, so she might be alright.
>We need to restore the barrier immediately.
If there's a way to do that without running to the temple again, I'd like to hear it.
>We need to prepare the defenses as soon as possible.
To be honest, the place already seems pretty fortified, as long as they don't attempt to siege us, the palace should be fine. Though the city surrounding it might not be so lucky.
>We need to stop the incoming army, somehow, and soon.
I guess we could make a deal with the demon for info, or maybe just find the general in charge of the assault, and beat him/her up? Not really sure about this one.

>>
>>31758948
I'm writing what was agreed upon - interrogating Yorick for the info needed.

"You do realize that if that army arrives, the first thing I'll do is smash you to dust."

//You'd not dare.// Yorick states good-naturedly. //But my alliance isn't with them, any longer. I got what I wanted. I can help you. Just a few distinct memories, just a couple... And I can grant you knowledge or power. All depends on what you give me, though.//

"You'll have to give me more than that."

//Hmph. Fine. For a few one-off, context-free memories, I can tell you where they are coming from and when they plan to get here. For something larger, some event with a measure of context, I can give you the size and the general makeup, as well as the positioning and ETA. And for...// he laughs harder, //And for the loss of your virginity, I'll even tell you how to stop them!//

Awww, he wants to feel alive!
We're should get the Tou to help us Dominate him later.

Why not just try it now?

Also why give something away so casually?

Justify yourself.

Kill it. Kill the damn demon already.
>>
>>31759593
Ourselves, our friends and an entire empire. Any of these is worth one memory out of the dozens we probably have with similar feelings.

We ain't getting a safe boat out of this, we're killing it now, then laying back while everyone pets cat people of their preferred gender.
>>

>>
>>31759676
Well I don't know, that depends on what our memory of our second time is like.
>>
>>31759676
Eh, that assumes that there's some secret insta-win he can give us.

Or that it's the only way to win.

He's a DEMON.
>>
If we can't trust his words, we have no idea what this sale would do to our relationship with Raev, we don't know if anyone will trust us afterward, and we don't know what it would mean for the chunk of our soul in hell right now in our arm-bits, then why even do it? Throw the stone in a bag, and sound Defcon 1!
>>
>>31759938
>we don't know if anyone will trust us afterward
I don't think that's a problem, and I'm pretty sure memories aren't a chunk of our soul. That problem would come in if we dominate him.

Not sure about Raev though.
>>
You don't want to give him anything.

You lean back, looking down at the soul.

+There is another way. Another thing you can do... It's not easy, but... You can attempt to take over his soul, much as he'd try to you if given the chance. Success means mastery over his being.+ Ja'al states. +You've a strong soul. It's entirely possible.+

Domination would require a combat roll of all your bonuses (+80) vs all his bonuses (+40). Success will grant you dominance over Yorick, and any knowledge he posseses. Failure will cost you a single memory of his choosing.

You get up. You can try that later - for now, he's given you enough info.

"Yan!" you call, kicking open the door.

"I felt it. Do you know what caused it?"

You go over what happened previously, and he nods, then sends out his three scouts to check on the temple, and two directions the army could come from.
"We've already sequestered the Princess and Monica." Yan states. "Our Leader is attempting to restore the barrier as we speak."

>Is there anything I can do?

Demons are made entirely out of magical soulstuff and those gems are basically their entire being concentrated into one point. I'm not saying it would work, I'm asking if it could.

Which is why I said consult with the demonologist expert, since that certainly aint me.

+Ja'al... A city-wide field of force couldn't be possibly powered by a single soulstone, right?+

+Not without a lot, and I mean a lot of sacrifice to empower it. We're talking round the clock virgin bloodletting.+

+Right...+

"Is there anything I can do?"

Yan thinks.
"Any information and power you can lend to our vangaurd would be appreciated. We hope to defray their forces somewhat, delay them, but we're not sure how yet."

"Right..."

You head steadfastly in the direction he indicates, breaking into a jog. If you had a little more power, a little more help...

You hold the stone close to you as you move, and then... As Ja'al said, you /push/ at it.

Suddenly, you aren't in a city anymore. You're in a graveyard. A being stands there, wreathed in blue flame, the fire of burning bones. A sword on his back, the sort for two hands. A regal posture.

And yet... He bows to you.
"What a shame." he says. "That we never met when I was of bright heart and brighter soul. I wanted so much to live, to protect my daughter. And when HE rose again..." the fire brightens, "I thought, 'this is my chance'. But they betrayed me. My legions. My demons. The Old King told them I deserved not my throne of Lordship, and cast away my power. What you see here, is but a memory. One I shall keep forever. He even stole from me my agency, sealed it away - but with a new keeper, it returns."

"What's going on?!"

He chuckles.
"Nothing. This conversation will take place in the space of seconds in the Real." he says, "For now, we are in the Soulscape - a place created by our merged - even briefly - souls. Now then. I believe you had questions. Questions that had answers? Desires? Name them. We'll work on this together. Ah... If only you could see yourself. But then, no one can - For after all, none know their true selves..."

"Can I reactivate the protection on the city before the invasion?"

"Unlikely." Yorick states, sitting on a grave. The name looks familiar, but it's not placable. "The focus I destroyed was the only one known of pure enough to sustain it. A fragment of Godhood. A crystallized bit of soul, the part that is stapled onto mortal souls when they Ascend." he looks up. "Perhaps if you found something just as bright... But I doubt you could. Even half a godhood would be enough." he chuckled. "But then, what God would give up such power, for those who do not even worship?"

"Fine - then how do I defeat them?"

"Rakshasa hold great stock in honorable combat. They believe that a fight is as much a clash of ideals as it is of steel. So find the man on top, demand a duel of Honor, and defeat him. Perhaps the rats will move ahead anyway - perhaps a third - but I think the Tou could handle that."

"... Are you sure about that?"

"On some level. Perhaps it won't be a fair fight - he'll have backup, extensive modifications to his body, and powerful magic, no doubt. You'll earn that victory. But that's how. Find the one leading the charge. Duel him."

"It couldn't possibly be that simple!"

"And yet..." Yorick raises his hands, palms up. "Any further questions, before we return to the Real?"

>>
>>31761128
>>31761256
With Battlemind and the combat bonuses stacked the way they were, Yorick's chances of getting a tie or better on this roll were ~0.74%

(And assuming that Avalon's quoting a sixth roll wasn't just a whim, including a 6th roll takes the odds down to him having a 0.377% chance.)

Even if Yorick was guaranteed from the outset to roll a 100, he only has an 7.15% chance of a tie or better (given 5 rolls) or 4.22% (given 6 rolls.)

It was a great way to move things forward rather than leaving everyone to argue back and forth forever about the OOC-vs-IC merits of taking mechanically irrelevant but narratively crushing deals, sure.

But as an element of chance? Probabilistically, this was about as far from close as you can get.

"My soul is cursed, right?"

"Ah... Removing a hex. You have to bring the bit that ended up in Hell topside." he says. "No easy task, though you'd be surprised what a man would do to get his-" he shakes his head, "Nevermind that."

"You were Lord of the Undead?"

"I'm a lot harder to kill than I look. Even the Old King couldn't remove me completely, could he?"

"Before we go, whose stone is that?"

"...The man who tried to guard my daughter in my place." he says, sliding off of it. "He deserved far better than what he had. Now then... We both have things to handle."

You 'awaken' mere moments after you left, running just outside the city where a camp's already been erected. Armored female Tou scurry about making hasty preparations, their commander a lightly armored woman with a fancy hat. A sword sits at her hip, and she leans from one side to another, tail lashing at the air.

She looks at you as you stop, then speaks.
"By Myana, were you not supposed to be with the Princess?" she asks.

You move quickly into the castle, and are lead by Yan into the building, deep inside.

The princess sits with Monica at a table, and the two are in deep, pleasant conversation while the guards look on mystified. The princess is young, about Micheal's age, and is stunningly beautiful - a full figure and a friendly face with bright green eyes and long blonde hair. She dresses in long, layered white robes that emphasize her assets well. Melodi confers with the guards as Monica rises, walking over to you.

+She has been so kind and understanding of how things are. Please don't let them get to her.+ she says with a sigh.

That done, you decide to take up the remaining time preparing - sharpening your weapons, tightening straps, and so on. Forms take up the last half hour, along with silent prayer. Raev's touch is not as strong as before, but you are happy to feel it as you step out to the camp and see the pillar of dust approaching.

The Rakshasa are a people similar to the Tou, but each are huge - giants in their own right, massive anthropomorphic cats with backwards hands and red eyes to the man and women, who fight side by side. Powerful muscles ripple beneath each hide, and you feel a low fear churn inside you - but then you feel the tensing of magic behind you, like a bowstring snapping.

"Oh Raev." you manage, as massive stones fall from the sky, each the size of a horse, pulverizing the front lines and blockading sections of the field from charging lizards. You only notice them now - horse-sized things, with wild eyes...

>continued
>>
>>31766085
But the stones alone don't stop the army, only the cavalry through disrupted earth. The Rakshasa had been expecting an easy rout - not magical warfare and warned defenders. A rain of arrows takes apart the ones who emerge from the stony field, leaving scores of dead.

But the army continues on, a sea of black fur, answered by tiny spheres lobbed high into the ranks, exploding with flames and goo - which then catch fire and stick to the Rakshasas. Finally, as the smoke curls into the air, the last of the traps goes off.

Water spouts blast under the invaders, launching them back and into each other. Unsheathed weapons impale friends, high launches break necks and chests alike, and the general dissarray caused by the various magical powers seem to win victory.

If not for the size of the army. But now you see the general, riding on a huge lizard with golden scales. He is armored well, and armed with at least three magical weapons. Thick and tall, his body reminds you uncomfortably of Teel.

>How do you call out to the General?

>>
>>31766625
You grasp a pennant from a nearby Tou, launching it his way - and it slams into the neck of the man in front of him, waving the symbol of the Tou (A prancing cat) in his face. When you see his face again, it is enraged.
"Hey! Which of you overgrown furballs is in charge here!" you shout, "I demand he show the courage to face me alone, rather than running over this tiny kingdom with his massive army! What sort of sad mockery of a military man has so little honor?!"

He stands, and leaps from his mount, landing before you.

Oh god, he's at least eight feet tall. Two longswords and a greataxe.

"I do." he says, low and deep, "And there is no honor among the Tou, dealbreakers, heretics, foul beasts all." he draws his weapons, and his men back away. "What are your terms?"

"If I win..."

"A term I can honor, girl." he says, resting his swords on his shoulders. "I command my men, but I am commanded in turn! I can, at best, leave until the wards return. A... Tactical error." he points his blade at you. "If I win, you come with me." he says, "No struggling. Your spirit reminds me of a battle-sister I once knew... Do we have an agreement?"

Lars nods solumnly.

He grins.
"My name is Tallus Twinblade." he says, "And I shall have you - Either by blood, or by other means."

A ring is formed almost instantly by the Rakshasa, and he slips into a low stance, blade at either side.

The monster of a combatant leaps at you, and you raise your still-dented shield, setting your feet as he slams into you and his blades swing for the side of your head. It's an easy maneuver to push him up and away. With a dash forward, you move after him, and he stabs at the air.

His blades vanish.

By sheer instinct, you leap forward, the blades appearing above and below you in your dive, scratching your armor as you roll into a standing position and thrust with your spear, which he parries with his blade. The two of you go like this for a while, sheer instinct preventing you from getting shanked by teleporting blades, as he slips out of range again and again.

"I don't understand..." he growls, "How can you slip away so often?"

You plant yourself defensively, as he launched into an assault. Vorpal weapons are fearful, true - they are specially made to target limbs and sever them. However, they are only magical in their accuracy for the chosen limb - usually the head.

He's strong, beastly, and fast - but he's no match for your defense, his axe slamming against your shield hard. But not as hard as Yorick had. After some time with that, your shield now dented, scratched, gouged, and almost ruined, he neatly slices it in half with a powerful blow.

He grins, bull rushing you for a final blow, and you raise your hand, feeling it open up, and the dart prepared to fire.

Your dart launcher fires, and the creature's head snaps back had, sending him falling into the sand. A cloud of it is kicked up by his massive landing, but as it settles, he rises, resting an arm on a raised knee as he rests there, regarding you. Your dart has ruined his eye, the other watching you with baleful intent.

"Very well. You have shown us your might. Your conviction. And your ideals." he says, tearing out the dart, letting blood and gunk flow over one cheek. He discards it onto the sand as he stands. "But I will remember well your name."

"Annelin."

"Good. It is a warrior's name." he says, picking up his weapons. He pauses to stare at the longsword in your arm, then laughs. "Keep it! A trophy of victory." he raises one reversed hand. "And when next we come back, I shall bury its twin into your heart."

He turns.

"Let us march west!" he roars, "For there rests an oasis!" the men march off, and you sit heavily, the pain of the sword in your good arm now growing far, far worse.

"The others... How many casualties... Is everyone..." and then, peacefully, you slip out of consciousness.

Then you come to, that beautiful royal face is perhaps a little too close, and you start.
"She's okay!" she says happily, melodically. "Myana be praised, she can still dance!"

Monica, in view behind the princess, relaxes visibly. +Thank heavens.+

"How long was I out?"

"No more than an hour." says the Tou medic, "You lost an obscene amount of blood. A sword through the arm, and you kept fighting! And for a country you have no citizenship with." He sighs. "Already there are paintings, and our leader would thank you himself, were he not restoring the barrier even now."

There's the sound, and feeling, of a soft purr upon your chest. When you look down, a child Tou, basically a white ball of fur, rests there, sleeping soundly. "You'd be surprised the medical benefits of a purring Tou." he says with a smile. "Here you are Yolana. Thank you."

He hands the baby back, and rests beside you. "I've healed your wounds. The enemy has been routed, the threat, for now, taken care of. I would deeply reccomend you rest. But is there anything you would like? I can ferry your request to the leader myself."

"Well, if I cannot have the honors... Perhaps Monica should."

The princess's ears perk up and her eyes go a little wide, as Monica flushes deeply.
"That... Could be arranged." the princess says slowly.

Eventually, you're wheeled out to a cheering populace, Monica at your side as you head into a rather large building. Food, steaming and hot, is served to the both of you, a special table brought in to accommodate you.

The festivities have not truly began just yet, when you see a familiar face - the Tou ambassador, who seems to be managing the place.

Melodi is learning to dance with one of the girls - a deeply tanned one who seems to care little for the modesty her outfit provides. Monica, for her part, seems to have trouble saying much of anything, her face a little red as the Princess explains various things.

Monica nods as the Ambassador moves to meet you.

"He's fine. Preparing to duel his father, no doubt."

1001 Arabian Nights

The festival is a beautiful celebration of live and happiness, owing to the goddess Myana, Lady of Dance and Joy. She is opposed by Nyalo, God of Duty and hard work. The two are lovers, and have constant spats, but for a day and a night, they are said to make love constantly.

Today is that day, or rather, any day the Tou win out over the Rakshasa. There are announcements of love and courtship, proposals of marriage, joyous dance by men and women - though the women wear considerably less. Wine is passed out, and you happily drink away the dull pain in your arm. Eventually, you request a massuese, and a young woman approaches and wheels you to a more secluded corner so you can lay forward on the bed and she can work your back.

Monica and the princess dance at the height of the night, and everyone gives them room. A big smile on her face, she spins and moves with grace you've never seen, and the Princess moves with her so gracefully you almost swear she floats.

A twinge of pain rises slowly. You miss Micheal, his bright eyes and soft words. You didn't think it'd hurt so much, but you allow yourself to enjoy the shows and plays about Tou heroes, before slipping away to sleep.

--- You are now Monica ---

You've never danced so well! You feel joy dance in your chest, and for the first time, you feel... safe. You rest at your table with the Princess, who happily stretches out over the table. Your blackboard sits there, ready for use.

Tell her she'll be a great queen, and that we worry she has to be cooped up inside that gray castle.

>>Talk to the Princess
>>Reminisce about your time together for the siege
And be sure to profusely thank Annelin tomorrow for being the best wingwoman ever.

Fun fact: In real life, the vibrations from a purring cat help to accelerate healing and soothe pain. It's why cats purr when they break bones or the like, and why a purring cat in your lap feels so amazing.

You recall her being so calm and collected during the siege that it nearly felt insulting to the defenders, but she simply said she believed in their strength, and her lack of fear was a compliment to that. Since then, she's proven to be a paragon of noble bearing and grace, gently worming her way into your mind and heart.

"The fine warrior has finally fallen to slumber." the princess says, leaning back. "I was wondering if you would join me elsewhere?"

"Of course" you write hastily. She leads you to a balcony, the night air chilly but warmer than back home. Rather pleasant, and she leans on the balcony to take it in. Soft hair splays to the winds behind her, robes fluttering and the wind pressing the cloth to her body pleasingly.

"I understand humans are rather reserved about how often they spend their nights with warm company." she says softly.

"They often are, but this trip has been an eye opening learning experience for me, who's to say I won't open my eyes and learn some more?"

Remember what Annelin told you, Monica. No reservations, cats only, final destination.

>>31785656
"It is mostly a religious custom. But there are gods for everything, from the dutiful to the foolish"

Well its 7AM and I need sleep so this anons gotta leave, AG, if the thread dies before I wake up, thanks for running.

>"I understand humans are rather reserved about how often they spend their nights with warm company." she says softly.
Lemme tell you about Raev...
>>
>>31785656
>Trying to phrase things in as few words as possible to accomodate for Monica's handicap is difficult
"It warries"
"Some stay chaste until they marry,
others don't..."

just scratch her behind the ears and kiss her already

Or hold her tail

"Some people stay chaste until they marry. Some don't." you write. "It varies. Mostly, it depends on religion."

"Myana advocates that we enjoy life whenever we can, for it is short." she says softly. "I understand we've not known each other long, but... I would like to get to know you better." she says, stepping closer. "More... Intimately."

Uh. Oh dear. Oh goodness. Your heart is racing, your face is hot, and your hands are shaking.

Try to scribble out an affirmative with you shaky behinds before giving up and kissing the goddamn cat.
>>
>>31786222
draw a heart and jump in her arms?
>>
>>31786222
Think long and scribble wildly, then scratch it out and write something else, then after a third wipe write "YES".
Then after her reaction/response add "Please be gentle. This is my first time."
>>
>>31786222
"In place of Annelin,
I request one night
with Her Highness"
No strings? Sure, let's get practice for the whole double marriage deal.
>>
>>31786222
Now I am a little suspicious about how fast this is happening, and wonder if this is more name magic, or seducers.
Ah well, kiss the girl anyway.
>>
>>31786417
Maybe Monica just has a thing for strong women and a catgirl fetish. She did seem have a bit of a schoolyard crush on Annelin, too.
>>
"There is something I should tell you." the Princess states. "My Name is... Well, translated, it means something like 'Adoration'. Or 'Loyalty'. If you want to leave, please, feel free. I understand."

You cease your writing, uncertain. But she was so kind and gentle. Her words weren't chosen by that Name. And she never chose it either. You wonder, what it must be like to know that most only care for you because of something so... beyond your control.

You remember dancing. You remember her gentle stories of Myana and Nyalo, of Meown and Hisstar.

You're split. You don't know whether to run away, or to hold her close and kiss her.

>CHOOSE.
>>
Rolled 8

>>31786517
>hold her close and kiss her
>>
>>31786517
Go for the big fat cat tats. Her name may compel us to adore her, but we chose to love her all on our own.
>>
>>31786517
>"My Name is... Well, translated, it means something like 'Adoration'. Or 'Loyalty'. If you want to leave, please, feel free. I understand."
Fuck.

Let's ask if we can get a minute or two alone to think it over, outside of her influence.
>>
>>31786517
>hold her close and kiss her.
of course
>>
>>31786602
Err, ignore that roll
>>
>>31786517
>Adoration
Tell her we'll let it pass if she show she can give back some of it.
>>
>>31786517
Eh, technically speaking adoration and loyalty can both be pretty platonic.

It'd explain how Monica came to like the princess so quickly, but not how she came to, well, want her.

Maybe take a step back to think about it, but I'm leaning towards kissing the girl.
>>
>>31786654
>>31786618
>>31786610
>>31786602
You look up at her, then toss the blackboard over your shoulder as you pull her into a kiss. It's new... Different. The way your bodies press to one another, the soft sweetness of her lips, the warmth of the desert wind slowly turning chill. You pull away for a moment, looking into her bright eyes, then simply hold her close as her hands stroke your back and she begins to purr throatily. Her tail curls and uncurls slowly.

You're calm, but your heart is racing. Excitement, lust, and joy war out, then simply make peace and revel together.

"Where from here?" she whispers, her voice gentle, yet husky.

Ooooohhhhh, right, their names are a key.

...

Fuck it. Give her a squeeze. If we don't like it, we'll take her up on the 'no strings attached' bit.
>>
>>31786950
smile and let your hands wander around and try to find her weak spot before the "serious" stuff begins?
>>
>>31786950
"I think you owe me a dance in the dark."
>>
>>31786950
"I've never done this before."
>>
>>31786950
>no board
Hop on her, she can carry us.
>>
>>31787158
You simply smile and press against her, letting yourself be picked up. A wonderful night is sure to follow.

=== You are now Annelin ===

And you are bored. And alone. Very alone. You rest in a large bed, arm bandages recently changed, looking out the window. You fear finding a Tou male, scared it might ruin your chances with Micheal in some way. You never thought spending so long away from him would be so painful. The worry creeps in deep as well, a gentle nibble of abject fear at the bottom of your mind.

You could go pray, you suppose. Or talk to Yorick. Or try to speak to Harumda, somehow.

+Ja'al, are you there?+

...No answer. The ring must be off his finger. You lay back heavily on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

Find pillow, start fucking people up.
>>
Thank Raev for helping, then go acquire some booze.
>>
>>31787977
Eh, pray to Raev for gratitude and the strength to resist temptation?

Also we can totally ruffle some Tou, because we need to get that out of our system when we see Michael again.

It probably doesn't help his mommy issues.
>>
>>31788803
I don't think mommy issues just go away, either.
Best Ann can do is the whole haircut and dye, but that still doesn't solve Mike's deal.

You pray to Raeve for her benevolence this day, and with a smile on your face, for her help in finding Monica happiness as well. You rise from the position, now on a mission for alcohol, the quest of kings. It isn't long before you find some, served by a male Tou who eyes you appreciatively. Apparently they like strong women here, and you, with armor, bandage, and spear, fit the role perfectly.

You sit heavily, and decide to chat with Yorick, since Melodi is nowhere in sight, and hailing Monica would be rude.

//Feeling that lonely, eh? Well. I'm in a chatty mood... Any questions?//

>Well?
