Please review the updated Rules & Character Sheet as the rules have been changed to a more uniform dice pool system. For now there will be no more explosions.

And now back with the quest.

The night air is pleasant as you catch up to Junpei and Hanako, the promise of time spent with friends and the looming all you can eat Korean BBQ special quickening your pace. Your name is Tsubasa Campbell, a 24 year old underachiever who a few short weeks ago was shocked into moving forward with you life after not dying when you probably should have.

Instead, you live. Either by the providence of cosmic entities you witnessed in the void between life and death or by the unexpected side effects of the experimental contents of the tanker truck that blew up and saw you impaled with shrapnel. Since not dying, you’ve gone through a number of changes.

The network of scars across your arm and legs have healed over and given way to smooth and supple skin. Where you had previously been rail thin and without development due to brain damage preventing you from having proper hormone distribution when you were a young pre teen, you’ve begun developing a firm and soon to be generous figure; and since the accident outed you, you’ve decided to start living your life as a woman instead of as a guy. You’ve grown about a foot in two weeks, and then compressed yourself back down to a more manageable and believable 5 inches.

>>
>>31705606
2 of ?

Wait. How does one compress gained height? Right, since you’re accident you’ve developed a litany of super human abilities. About an hour ago, you got shot multiple times through a door, and all the bullets flattened against your skin. One of them against the back of your throat, you unintentionally swallowed that one. You can also lift probably a couple of tons. Fly. Exist without breathing. Manipulate gravity and electromagnetic forces. Change shape. And probably more. Much much more.

Much to your horror, you discovered a passive ability to make others witnessing your ability to perceive that nothing is wrong. Since then you’ve kept that power off by your force of will.

In short. You might not be human anymore. You can metabolize probably anything, even dangerous things, especially radioactive material. A shady company that might have given you super powers might be gunning for you. Another party possibly opposed to said company might be gunning for you. Also you earlier started losing your grip on humanity, but you’ve done an admirable job reclaiming and maintaining it in the face of inhuman hungers and lust for being powerful.

You even saved a crashing airplane without getting spotted by recording devices.

All of this, however, is unimportant.

Tonight is about your friends celebrating your unlikely survival and waking up from a short coma.

Too vague, out of character at this time, and you have not described how you would use your assorted powers to do so. Thoughts regarding the platinum market will be brought to Tsubasa's attention.

Ask about all the stuff that's happened while you were in the hospital. We've heard a little from Hanako, but it's always nice to hear a different perspective.
>>
>>31706330
>>31705782
These seem good.

Probably think about Hanako in the background.
>>
>>31705632
This is a little prompt-starved, Gyoji. Finding something to talk about is pretty vague, when suggested options can include topics that would flesh out Tsubasa's relationships with these guys.

For example:
>Talk about manga with Junpei
From that you can infer that both still read manga, and that they are comfortable talking about it. I know you're trying to focus on freedom here, but you already built most of Tsubasa's background, fill the rest in so we can choose whether to change it.

I suppose I'm also a little tired about talking about the hospital without getting any leads or actually checking out the leads we already have.
>>
>>31706534
We're not talking about the hospital, we want to know what we missed in our friend's lives while we were in there.

As for investigating.. we did some Googling and discovered things that make us suspicious of the company the tanker belonged to.
What with mysterious research and buying the hospital we were in.

Other than the mystery call in the depths, we don't have many leads to follow up on conventionally.
Though we just started developing low grade cosmic awareness, so hopefully we'll be able to develop that more and pull up additional leads/gain clues.
>>
>>31706623
I don't think we missed too much in just a week or two.
>>
>>31706623
when I say check out, I kinda meant something more thorough than "google it". I meant actually checking the place out. We've got superpowers, and they've already started shooting us, anyway. Better not let this sit and risk crossfire. We should also tell Uncle, because he might be in trouble, too. Lawyers are pretty big targets to silence.

On the other hand, I might just be impatient, and it only feels like things are happening too slowly.
>>
>>31706623
So we can answer the call of Cthulhu, see what that signal leads to.

We can try awareness, though without explosions I don't think a single die is going to get us too far, and we need to become aware of the ability before actively using it.

Could go in Batman style and hang people upside-down from rooftops for information.

>>31706631
So if you didn't see a friend for two weeks or more, you wouldn't ask what he's been up too?
Or how things at work are, since he's also a co-worker? Gotta listen to the friend man, even if they have nothing interesting to say.
>>
>>31706694
nah I'd ask, but we've already asked in previous threads I think
>>
>>31706692
We still need to figure out who is shooting at us.
I still have my doubts it is that company, I'm thinking the 'other party' whomever the bloodnapper is.
Or, simply some hate group douche, but the timing of that blast through our door as we snuck up to it seems too good to have been chance.
>>
>>31706692
OP is always deading, except when some wizard opens a portal to the negative energy plane near his coffin.

Thinking for a moment as you fall in step beside them, you wonder about what Hanako had just said. The, only slightly, taller girl had admitted that she wasn’t certain if she was heartbroken or not yet and wanted to wait and see if she had been or not.

In the long years you’d pretended to be a boy, Hanako had spent a fair amount of time carrying a torch for you and being rather flirtatious. Often, she would be flirtatious with others in front of you to try and spur you to action with jealousy. In truth, do to your own longstanding hormonal deficiencies, you’d never actually felt a sexual attraction to anyone or anything before.

After it first came out that you were actually a girl, while coming in and out of consciousness in the hospital, you had witnessed Hanako’s dismay that the one she’d been pining after for so long, fruitlessly, was actually a woman. You know in the time you’ve been out, that she’s had to suffer some nasty behavior from some people in her life due to her connection to you and the common knowledge that she’d always had a thing for you. Now she seems under the assumption that since your body is finally flush with the hormones it should have been more than a decade ago, prompting part of your current development, that you’ll find that you might be into women.

That wasn’t something you were expecting.

You choke those thoughts down, casting a quick side glance at Hanako. Was the thrill you felt about being powerful while on the cusp of madness sexual? Would you act on such feelings if you had them for her? She’d been going Tsubasa chan at you left and right, like you were small and cute. You feel the slightest trill of that feeling at the thought of being taller than her and with the currently compressed assets you know eclipse her own, who’ll be small and cute then?
>>
>>31706932
2 of 3

Righting your vision, you carry on with the two of them. Idle thoughts keeping curiosities about what you could possibly find attractive between either of the sexes at bay wondering if you can flat out eat metal. Which one would taste best? Precious or conductive metals would be softest and probably easiest on your still superficially human biological systems. You’ll need to sample some later; gold, silver, platinum.

Argh, you’re making yourself hungry. A good thing considering your destination. Okay, conversational distractions.

“So, Junpei,” you begin with a sigh as you try to find your place as a stranger among the familiar, “What have you been up to since I was in the hospital?”

He lets out a low whistle and smiles, removing his hands from his pockets and gesticulating excitedly.

“The coolest of things. My garage signed a contract with some private rare car collector. They’ve been bringing a ton of old and imported models in for basic tune ups and maintenance. This morning I finished work on a 66 Buick Wildcat,”

“Buick, those are the really big old American cars, right?” Hanako asks earnestly.

“Yeah; terrible mileage, but the Wildcat is real classy. It was probably a bitch to drive it in Tokyo,” he smiles.

“Oversized and classy, sounds like a car after my own heart,” you smile.
>>
>>31706947

Good, at least he’s enjoying his work. As you’re about to ask after the private collector, something catches your nose and pulls your focus forward. Seorabol is just down the street, and you can already smell the beef, pork, and chicken you’ll probably be demolishing soon. There in front of the restaurant are a number of people waiting to get in for the all you can eat special. Three of them waiting outside of the queue are familiar to you, one of them is rather unexpected. Waiting there are Kaito, Hitomi, and your nurse from the hospital? She’d been very supportive and helpful, even asking to be friends when you first met, that’s a dedicated follow up.

>Greet your friends & ask Tomoe-san what she’s doing here. Maybe you’re growing rightly paranoid.

There was something odd about that nurse.
Wasn't that the same one that the other nurse didn't know who you were talking about?

And now we know the corp bought the hospital too..

Dedicated or not, you’re putting all worry at the back of your mind tonight.

“Kaito, Hitomi!” you call out as you approach the three, “I’ve missed you guys. And its good too see you again too, Tomoe-san,”

You aren’t certain if its your clothing in general, how tall you’ve gotten in two and a half weeks, or your slightly more feminine features. Something of it or all of it seems to have caught your two longtime friends off guard and they’re confused stares continue as Tomoko Tomoe returns your greeting.

“Good evening, Campbell-san, you’re looking much better today,” she smiles and pumps her arms and then holds her balled fists close to her chest as though trying to contain herself, “I’m so happy my first patient is doing so well!”

“Yeah, your nursing skills were top notch,” you return her smile, “even if my veins were greedy with the IV bags,”

“Little did I know that you were hitting a growth spurt, the extra nutrition was probably sorely needed,” she nods sagely and crosses her arms with a laugh, “My mistake with the flow regulation tab was for your benefit. I must instinctually be a better nurse than I give myself credit for,”

Hanako does not seem amused by your former nurse’s antics or familiarity. Junpei is on the verge of stammering, probably falling in love again. They are both behind you, and it unnerves you that you’re accurately aware of these things, but you roll with it. Hitomi is the first to get over her shock.

“Tsubasa?” she says confused as she lays hands on your shoulders, “Sister Hanako was not exaggerating when she said I would hardly recognize you when she was through. I did not think your changes would be quite this drastic,”

It hits her that she’s looking you dead in the eye at near equal height. She brings a hand over her gasping lips as she withdraws from contact with wonder spreading across her features.

“Nor would I have expected you to have grown quite this much so quickly,”

“Eh, making up for lost time. The doctors kept throwing words around about my recovery like ‘miraculous’ and ‘unprecedented,’” you shrug, “I’m not going to worry too deeply about it if it means I can finally feel like I’m growing up,”

You lied. You are worried, but you’d rather not let them know that. Kaito shakes his head and takes a drag on his cigarette. He’s known the truth about you the longest, and you’ve confided in him when you were younger about the person you wish you could be and the freedoms without fear you wished you could have.

“Finally living the dream?” he asks plainly.

There it is, a chance to boast on one of the aspects of your new circumstances that does fill you with more joy than fear. Rolling the sleeve of your sweater up, you reveal your forearm without the webwork of scar tissue that once ruled your life.

“Cool,” he takes out a small case, pops it open, and puts the lit stick out against the inside surface, “Oi, Junpei,”

“W-what?” Junpei’s steady concentration is broken.

“Its impolite to stare,” Kaito subtle gestures toward Tomoe-san.

>”Lets head in, I’m starving”
>Continue to shoot the shit out here for a few minutes.
>Suggest they head in, but grab Hanako and ask if she’s ok privately.
>Suggest they head in, but grab Junpei and knock some sense into him about being obvious because he just got shot down by Hanako a few hours ago.
>Suggest they head in, but grab Kaito and tell him about the gunshots...either that they happened or the whole terrible truth because maybe telling someone would make it less daunting.

1. Just go in
>>
“Let’s head in, I’m starving,” you practically drag everyone in.

There is a pang of worry in the back of your mind in regard to Hanako. Whether she just doesn’t like Tomoe-san or if she’s jealous...it doesn’t matter. You’ll talk to her, later. She and Junpei both offered you space to crash for the night, and since Junpei has an apartment about the size of your own, and Hanako & her sister live in a much larger old manor house, the choice is fairly obvious.

Your group is lead into the back to the private room for your party. Kentaro is there helping a few members of the wait staff hang banners and decoration congratulating you on your health and recovery. The normally stoic bespectacled young man seems a bit haggard, though he seems to light up when he has seen everyone has arrived. You notice him, sort of like how you noticed Hanako earlier. It isn’t like you were seeing them for the first time, just that there was something pleasing about their faces, his shoulders, and her-hey he’s coming over with arms wide.

“Welcome everyone, I’m glad you could all make it,” he smiles and approaches you, “And I’m glad to see you are still with us as well. Welcome back, Campbell-san, you already exceeding what Hanako said about-"

"Forget what I said about whatever!" Hanako interjects physically between the two of you, "Let's Party!"

The cheap beer is plentiful, and it barely gets you buzzed. Junpei tries and fails to start three conversations with Tomoe-san. Hitomi chats you up about her own views on femininity that she'll be showing you when it's her turn to provide you with tutelage.

"I think you'll benefit very well from a spa day and a few lessons on flower arranging," she says, her composure restored as she sips her drink.
>>
>>31711864
In front of you the thin strips of meat sizzle on the metal. Pulling a few pieces off and to your plate you continue to nod at Hitomi. She's very traditional, knows how to cut loose, but is usually very reserved and, well this.

"And perhaps you should learn to reign yourself in. I was told that sweater was new, but you've already pulled a hole in it,"

There is a pause, did she notice the bullet hole?

"It's a funny story. I'll tell you about it later," you sigh with some degree of defeatism.

"And you should also get into a habit of speaking more womanly. You won't be able to speak so casually all the time, you aren't just one of the guys,"

"Aw, come on Hitomi. This isn't going to be an overnight thing. I spent more than a decade trying to be rough and tumble. You can't expect my habits to change overnight,"

You cast your vision about the room. Tomoe and Hanako are having a poor sing off with the Karaoke machine that Kentaro brought in and is operating. Kaito is across the table, engrossed in conversation with Tomoe over a teacher there apparently both had in their undergraduate degrees, while Junpei sits on his other side being awkward.

"I think you should be able to change just as quickly as the rest if you,"

A strip of steak gets caught in your throat as you momentarily choke.

"Eh!?"
>>
>>31711956
"Body language and posture are important to me. Your's has changed significantly...and without the awkward clumsiness expected during sudden growth. You threw around words like miraculous earlier...and you are not wrong. I worry for you, Tsubasa, that there is something amiss with all of this. Since you and Kaito saved me from those ruffians after I called the two of you useless layabouts sponging a off of my sister's generosity, I have held you in trust and high regard; so do not be offended that I find your recovery and changes odd...if not unnatural. More so than your normal circumstances so recently revealed," she sips, "Whatever is going on, be safe...and don't hurt Hanako more than your innocent deception already has,"

Okay, she is very perceptive.

>"I'm worried too, but I'm alive, so that's enough,"
>"It's a bullet hole. Someone tried to kill me today,"
>Everything is perfectly fine.
>"I'm changing, and I think for the better. I can finally figure out who I am. Don't be so worried,"

You look down; before looking Hitomi straight in the eye.

"I'm worried too, but I'm alive. For now, that's enough,"

She nods, and picks at her so far grilled portions. Like any Thursday gathering here, she's pacing herself and eating slowly.

"So, did you know," she looks back up, a question forming in her eyes, "About me, before the accident?"

She sets her utensils down and dabs her lips with a napkin.

"Yes. Not at first...but when you and Kaito saved me I began to suspect," you eye her questioningly, "Low center of gravity to flip my attacker, the way you walked after your knee was almost kicked out. I thought it strange, further interaction eventually confirmed it,"

"Why didn't you tell Hanako?"

"Because it was obvious you did not return her affections," she sips her beer slowly before continuing, "now I know why. Has that changed?"

"I-I don't know yet," you sink into your seat next to her in the circular booth, "and it isn't something I want to talk about out in the open,"

"I understand. Try not to be so down, it is a party for you after all," she gives you a smile and turns to see Kaito trying to make a paper motorcycle of his napkin to explain some abstract concept to Junpei.

She seems to be looking for an in with their conversation.

"Hey, Hitomi," but you aren't quite done with her. She turns back to face you, "One of the things I'm worried about; Mori Micro bought the hospital while I was under,"

"Mori? -the tanker?" Her eyes go wide.

"Yeah, just keep it under your hat. Okay?"

"I don't tend to wear them," she sighs, "but I've a few to keep that under in storage,"

"Thanks,"

>you noticed general things about Junpei and Hanako earlier. Without looking at them, play with that extra sensory power?
>>
Excusing yourself from the table, you slide out of the booth and head over to the three by the Karaoke machine. Tomoe-San and Hanako are belting some song out in English. You think it's from a musical, something about a hero at the edge of the night. Approaching as the song wraps, Hanako gives you a lopsided smile and throws herself at you.

Despite her fuller figure, and the Herculean attack she put on the still ongoing all you can eat barbecue portions the waitstaff continues to bring in, Hanako is a lightweight when it comes to drinking. Her cheeks are rosy and warm as she presses her face against you in an enveloping and invasive hug.

"Yay! Tsubasa-chan came to hear defeat Tomoe in song! Eep!" She squeaks and jumps off of you, "I promised I wouldn't hang off of you all the time, I'm so sorry!"

Her teary eyes expression is adorable. You try not to think about the hug.

"Actually," you begin, "I wanted to ask Tomoe-San something,"

Hanako puffs her cheeks in a mild annoyance and stalks back off to the table unsteadily.

"What did you want to ask me, Campbell-San?" Tomoe Tomoko asks while returning the microphone to Kentaro.

"Just how you heard about this, what brought you out here tonight?"

She giggles.

"After the bombing your friends came back asking after you. I told them I was worried and your friend Kentaro here invited me to the party as soon as you were out," she explains succinctly, "so we traded contact information, and he called me when the day was set,"

The evening carries on. You even try a few sets on Kentaro's machine, drink yet more beer, and get your money's worth from the special. By the end of the night, you're feeling really relaxed. Hanako overdid it on something, and was being tended to by Hitomi in the restroom. You were worried about her, but the svelte twin shooed you away. Kentaro took responsibility for Junpei's drunken ass and left with a curt good night to everyone. Tomoko Tomoe left a bit early, saying she had to get to the start of her next shift at the hospital. Kaito opted to wait with you for the sisters outside of the restaurante.

He offers a cigarette wordlessly, before starting a new conversation.

>yes
>no

"So, what's with the bag?"

>Crashing at Hanako & Hitomi's. Some crazy jerkass shot up my front door.
>Accident, landlord needs to replace my door, I need a place to sleep. Hanako offered.
>It's a long fucking story. I'm not sure it's even real. It started when the truck exploded...
>Asshole shot up my door trying to off me for not conforming to what's between my legs. Crazy thing is, he hit me.

He's the long-time friend, the only one we told our old secret to.
If we can tell anyone, it's him.

Lets work in the other details when there are less drunk friends around

I'm game with telling him, not with the other 2 still in party mode. Show the bullet holes, but say it's a long fucking story.

We're also still not sure about the WHY of the shooting, so I didn't want to use the fourth option.

It is just the two of you outside, Hitomi is taking care of her sister who may or may not be puking into a toilet. The crowd from earlier had dissipated.

Also, Kaito is not drunk because he has a tolerance and paces himself. He is likely a bit buzzed right now. Hitomi drinks slowly and not much.

I still don't want the other 2 coming back in the middle of a superhero origin story. Would be easier to explain with demonstrations anyway.

Taking the cigarette, you wait for Kaito to produce a match before responding. With an inhalation, your shoulders relax on reflex, it doesn't matter that you're reaction to the chemical process is probably stunted.

"Crashing at Hanako and Hitomi's. Crazy jerkass shot up my door," you return the cylinder to your lips.

He stares at you a second, his perpetual unshakably stance lends aid in calming you a bit.

"That's rough," he sighs, "So, think Junpei'll be crushed when he realizes Hanako 's still hung up on you?"

"What do I care? He's already moving on, dumb bastard," another drag for the familiar comfort.

He nods and pulls his free and exhales a long jet of wispy smoke.

"These things'll stunt your growth, you know,"

"Funny, are you a comedian now?"

"Dunno, what about you? Are you something now?"

"What do you mean?"

"You were checking out Kentaro & Hanako earlier; you looked embarrassed when Hana draped herself over you. You're never embarrassed,"

"I-"

The door swings open and Hitomi and Hanako stride into the night beside you, well, Hitomi strides. Hanako drifts behind her, pulled by one hand while the other rests in her stomach.

"Ready to go?"

End Thread 07.

See you tomorrow.
