It is the year 22XX and Humanity has reached the stars. Alas, even though they have attained the lofty goal of interstellar travel, mankind has yet to conquer it’s baser instincts.

Humanity is ruled by ultra-Corporations. Some own continents. Some own multiple worlds. But no matter who you are, everyone is a citizen-employee somewhere. The qualms that beset corporations of the past, copyright infringement, tech theft, still exist. If anything, they are amplified by the scale of the players.

Without government to turn to for legal recourse and separated by millions and billions of miles, corporations have turned to less savory solutions to resolve disputes. You are one of those solutions.

You are an elite mercenary, also known as a High Impact Public Representative, of the StrikeOut Company, a group of mercenaries who accept contracts and missions from the highest bidder. You are launched out of a spaceship in a drop pod filled with bright orange and highly toxic gel. You crash land into the target’s facilities, make a mess, do your job, and then get the hell out.

You are a Fall Guy. You are a Deniable Asset.

You scarf down a heaping spoonful of egg flavored soy slop, trying your best to ignore how the wizards in food synthesizing have managed to come just close enough to the consistency of scrambled eggs to to make the experience of eating the soy product as disquieting as possible. Eventually you put your fork down, and with a determined swallow force the mouthful of food - if we’re being liberal with the term - down. Washing away the flavor with a cup of coffee you barely manage to contain a smile. A good thing you were able to do so though, otherwise you’d have spilled hot black liquid all over yourself like a fool.

Still, after the resounding success of last night, who wouldn’t be a little pleased with himself? Chuckling softly to yourself and shaking your head, you move on the the tofu curd links. Yes, almost exactly like the real deal, except in a million imperceptible tiny ways. Next time there’s a shuttle off world, you’re taking the ride down to Atlas. It’s been a long while since you had real proper breakfast meat.

Your thoughts of breakfast eventually bring you to thinking of the single most superior breakfast food. Bagels. Bagels and lox and capers and other assorted accoutrements. The thought of bagels eventually leads some small part of your brain to think of the bagel’s infinitely inferior, but similarly shaped, cousin, the donut.

Donuts. Donu- oh right. Dinner with Svenja tonight.

Hmm. You’re pretty sure you worked out a place to eat. But eating is only good for so much here. You’ve always been better at conversation when there’s some sort of action going on, rather than just sitting around and jawing. Maybe you should do something a little more with your HR advisor. But what?

>But What?

Quite a few ideas bounce around inside of your head. Hitting up some sort of club and dancing might be nice - you could definitely impress her with some slick maneuvers - but on the other hand Svenja can barely handle people knocking on her door without transferring the entirety of her work station to the floor of her office. You somehow doubt she would last long in a typical dance hall. Maybe something a bit more mellow, like a comedy club? You’re honestly not sure if the station actually has one. You think there’s something? If there is one, it could give you the opportunity to get sloshed on synthohol and make cultural references so dated they’re being measured in carbon half lives. Hey, maybe karaoke?

Yeah, maybe you should put some more thought into your post dinner plans later. Cleaning off the remainder of your tray, you toss it into the chute to god knows where and take your leave of the mess hall. You still have hours before you’re supposed to meet Svenja for dinner. More than enough time to figure out what to do with her afterwards. As for right now, you’ve got hours to burn and nothing scheduled to do with them. Maybe initiate Svenja into the world of pranks and hijinkery of the modern mercenary? She might be a little too upright for such activities normally, but maybe if you spin it as trying to get insight into the merc mindset…

Well, you're certain that if you leave the problem on the back burner for a while, something will stand out as a good idea. For now though, you have six hours to burn before you would even think about getting ready for your date night. What do you do with yourself?

You decide that visiting the Armorer and earning some dosh before dinner would be nice. As you make your way to the Armory you pull out your e-glasses and prepare to ping Svenja. You’re dying to see what Darius and/or Valk had to say in your performance review.

>Hey Svenja. While you’re still my advisor and not my dinner date, I’ve got a question for you.

A few seconds later and she responds.

>What can I do for you Ivan?

>Yeah. I was wondering if you had received my performance review yet.

>Oh yes I have! I’ll send the file your way right now. http://pastebin.com/PSdK8dRP

>Thanks a ton. See you at 1915.

You push your e-glasses away as you step into the Armory. The Armorer glances up at you from behind a different dilapidated book. She puts it away underneath her counter before you can get a good look at it, but the cover art kinda looks like it was done by the same guy who illustrated her last reading selection. The Armorer rests her chin on a hand, looking marginally less displeased to see you than she does most of her clientele “What do you want, Kostov?”

“Work.”

“Good. I’ve got a few things in the back I’ve saved up for you.”

She doesn’t bother leading you to the workstation, instead burying her face back in her new book as you step into the back room. Walking into the area you find the usual assortment of damaged weaponry. And one much less usual thing. A hulking suit of Aegis Mark 4 powered armor stands in the corner, the front chest piece pretty badly slagged by some sort of monstrously powerful weapon. You don't have forever here, so you’s probably have to choose between fixing up the guns and working on the Aegis armor.

Writing. While I write discuss something among yourselves.

There's an idea that's been bounced around in the IRC that I quite like. Basically, instead of choosing a mission each time, Ivan can choose to go "on retainer" with another company. Basically, he does a series of drops, up to three at most, for a company that all tie together and form a story arc.

What would your thoughts on this be? It wouldn't replace one off drop missions, but it would be another option for Ivan.
>>
>>31694888
It reminds me a bit of how that one mission that went FUBAR had a TON of cool backstory to it. If it means more of backstory and 'this corp behaves like this' type of stuff, then fuck yeah man, that's awesome.

I like the idea, but I think we'd need to qualify for that first. Going on retainer should require a certification process (either a supervised mission or just a rank bump).

Alternatively, StikeOut! could be on retainer for some Corp and assign Ivan to that detail (that way you could slash the Ivan's retainer fee). That would probably make more sense for a lower level merc.

You decide to challenge yourself a bit this time. Guns are pretty easy repairs, since any part you can’t hammer back into shape can easily be replaced. The damn things are designed from the top down to be easy to service. No, the Armorer left that suit of Aegis powered armor behind special for you. You walk up to the hulking armor and examine it reverently. The Aegis is especially noteworthy among powered armors for its active defenses and specially patented Aikido Energy Gathering Inversion System. The AEGIS acronym is basically meaningless, only chosen for marketing reasons, although the chief engineer and designer of the AEGIS line did say that he was inspired by the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Basically, Aegis powered armor isn’t like most powered armor, which just has more ceramic, tungsteel struts, electrohexplates, and more reactive armors. Instead, the Aegis armor employs a variety of clever materials that can convert various forms of energy, kinetic, heat, and... well electrical isn’t nearly as impressive but it does that too, into electrical energy that powers an extensive battery pack on the back of the armor. Although it doesn’t grant quite as much protection against explosives and the more powerful magacccel weaponry as normal powered armor, it allows the operator to stand in the the midst of enemy weapons fire and convert the energy into power. This gives the Aegis armor unparalleled operation times compared to other battery powered power armors. It also allows the Aegis pilot to drop into battle with much more potent magaccel weaponry than other powered armor pilots. The enemy themselves helps recharge our weaponry.
>>
Yes, Aegis armor is some of the coolest shit that a young merc can aspire to. You’ve heard rumors that some of the Sol corporations have even more exotic and advanced powered armors, but for a merc living outside of the home system, the Aegis is the best on the market. You brush a hand over the slagged chest plate reverently. So enamoured are you by the armor that you fail to pick up on some of the finer details of the damage. “What could have brought you down,” you whisper to the empty giant.

A minute more of silent contemplation and you get to work. First thing is first. You need to get that slagged chest plate off. There’s nothing you can do for it except slap on a new one. You immediately apply yourself to the challenge with relish.

Several hours later and your relish has soured, pickling the hotdog of your enthusiasm. Aegis armor is already an incredibly complex armor system, and the fact that all the intricate plates of piezoelectric and thermoelectric armor melted together, carbonsynth muscular bundles torn free of their anchoring points, and wiring was obliterated, makes removing the damn chest piece way more of a challenge than you anticipated. You sit back down at your workstation, huffing furiously. You’ve made some progress, at the cost of exhausting your extensive vocabulary of profanity. And for all the variations on the word fuck you’ve uttered in the last few hours, you’ve not made nearly as much progress as you would hope. You take out your e-glasses and check the time. 1703. Two hours and a bit till dinner with HR.

Okay, I got what I need. Writing.

I'm going to build off of the retainer idea I mentioned earlier. I'd like for it to be a chance to learn more about the universe and other corporations. There is definitely the issue of lost character development with your fellow rookies. Hell, there might even be a risk of the cast growing yet more bloated. You would probably be dropping in a team of four as per usual, unless the retainer specifies otherwise. Missions would probably be similar to what you've been doing before, except they would all relate to one another and choices you make in mission one will affect later missions in that retainer.

Also, favorite male character. And why.

You shake your head and sigh. You can’t let yourself get carried away trying to repair this thing. But that doesn’t mean you’re about to pussy out either. You set an alarm for 1815. You swear, once that alarm goes off you’ll drop whatever you’re doing, no matter how far along you are, and get back to your quarters to gussy up and get pretty for your advisor. You close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and get to work.

An hour later and your alarm goes off. You sit back, rubbing some sweat off of your brow, and look down upon your work. The slagged chest piece is completely off of the Aegis chassis. Luckily the damage is pretty limited beyond that. Some copper aerosol packs got triggered, and there’s some nasty scratches and burn marks, but all in all the rest of the armor plates seem like a simple enough fix. Making your life substantially easier was the discovery that the tungsteel skeletal chassis and carbonsynth muscle bundles were entirely unharmed by whatever wrecked the chest armor. That would have complicated things immensely. You stand up, and step out into the Armory. The Armorer puts her book down and gives you an appraising look. “Leaving?”

“Yeah. Only just managed to get the slagged chest plate off of the Aegis armor. Didn’t get around to the rest.”

The Armorer nods, seemingly unsurprised. “About what I expected. Come back again before you drop if you want another crack at the Aegis.”
>>
You nod, slightly too focused on getting to your quarters in short order to afford your usual smile. You hurry back to you quarters, power shower, make sure your shadow is appropriately 5 o’clock, and slam through your usual grooming rituals. After getting on an appropriately classy outfit for the occasion, you slide on your e-glasses and check the time. 18:56. That’s not nearly as much time as you’d like to have to get to the restaurant. Still, you’re a superhuman mercenary. Your muscles are so powerful they would shatter a normal human skeleton. Nineteen minutes should be more than enough time.

>>
>>31697181
Idol mission was very fun.
>>
>>31697181

I'd like another mission that goes fubar, preferably without lose of life if we can avoid it, but something that may have dire consequences if we fuck up. Instead of of horror setting maybe something that will fuck /tg/'s paranoia for some shadowrunning. Corporate intrigue is good for that.
>>
>>31697181
I really enjoyed the last mission we went on. Also Bitter Prohpet. I think the key here is keeping it mixed up, no one exact mission type should be played out too often in a row. This seems fairly obvious but yeah, keep it diverse.

Idol bashers was fun as well but seems like only an "every now and then" type mission. Bitter Prophet is obviously something we don't want to do too often either. I'd personally enjoy another smash and grab where human lives are at stake again a la our first mission. Stuff with backstory is always good. ... Ok I am all over the place with this, my bad.
>>
>>31697181
Idol Bashers was bossin, Bitter Prophet was great too.

>>31697243
>Or how about a rescue?
A 100% good guy mission would be cool.

As for a covert/assassin, maybe in the James Bond sense that would be cool, but sneaking around in the shadows isn't Ivan's bag

I would also like to see some swashbuckling ship-to-ship combat.

I would like to spend a mission working as a temporary drill sergeant for a militia. Like, a smaller company has no corpsec, but can't afford a lot of mercenaries, so they hire SO out to train their employees.

Also, Idol Bashers. Shit was bangin'.

This would work great especially if there was a final battle scene at the end where we put the Militia to actual work in defending the town proper. Their experience and success would depend on how good we did teaching and securing equipment for them.
>>
>>31697181
Well, I've enjoyed everything except Bitter (and that was mostly because we didn't go lethal the second Tran got injured), but the idol mission was by far the most fun. We need to do one of those every once in a while.

Combine it with Bitter Prophet and you get a nice Dead Space equivalent.
>>
You hurry through the hallways to the Tram station, and are lucky enough to arrive just as the car pulls in. Hopping on board, you check the time a few more times compulsively. Not that it’ll make the damn thing go any faster. Eventually you arrive at the commercial section and hop off of the Tram. You briefly consider buying flowers, but you figure you’ve already done plenty for Svenja in the gifts department. The two of you will be splitting that bottle of champagne you absconded with after all. You hurry through the milling civilians, some sort of animal instinct causing them to split before you. They probably know the look of a merc in a hurry by now.

After a few more minutes of hurried jogging, your e-glasses politely inform you that you are about to turn the corner. You immediately slow to a nonchalant trot. Nobody can look cool while jogging. You languidly turn the corner and walk up to Zator, the Voytekian restaurant. You check the time once more. 1921. Six minutes late. That’s pretty fashionable right?

You step into the lobby of the restaurant, and glance around. It doesn’t take long for you to find your HR advisor, who has quite literally let her hair down. She’s also not wearing her usual pair of e-glasses. Probably in her handbag. Svenja makes eye contact with you and her ears turn ever so slightly red. She glances down to the ground for a half second before looking back up, the corners of her mouth lifting into a shy smile. You break out your own signature ceramic smile and stride up to her.
>>
It’s easy to feel like you own the room when you could quite literally kill everyone in here with a butter knife... That may not be the healthiest way to build self confidence.

“Hey Svenja. Donut think I’m usually quite this late.”

Svenja giggles a bit into her hand at your admittedly lame pun. You'd like to think that it was your hyper confident delivery of it that got her, but most likely it’s just some slight nerves. “Hi Ivan. And oh, ah… Don’t worry about it. I was hardly waiti- I mean I only just arrived here myself.”

You smile gently at her. “Well I’m glad to hear that. I’d hate to think I kept you waiting overmuch.”

“Oh no! Hardly at all,” Svenja continues as you lead the way up to the hostess. “Ivan Kostov. Reservation at 1920.”

The hostess looks slightly confused before she makes the appropriate time conversion. She leads the pair of you to a pleasant table near one of the observatory windows built into the side of the restaurant. You and Svenja take your seats and wait for your waiter’s arrival. It takes you no time at all to realize you’ll probably have to lead the conversation here. Svenja seems the sort to get tongue-tied on dates.

only just catching up with the thread now

the idea sounds neat, but think about the amount of time its going to cut out by itself if we go away and do three missions back to back, we take up 3 threads easily just doing one mission, and doing a 'arc' while hired out for another company means 3 times that, so your looking at 10+ threads, without ANY downtime at all, no seeing friendly characters or training or working on gear, unless you structure it so that nothing changes except for the missions Ivan goes on, so he'd be on retainer, stay on the Brick and then leave for that mission in the arc, finishes and comes back to the Brick and gets ready for the next mission on retainer.

depending on how you handle it, it could severely fuck with the quests pacing

You decide that the best approach to Svenja is to get her to open up with a subject that she’s comfortable with. Most people tend to be comfortable telling others about themselves. Let’s start with that. “So Svenja. I’m curious. How did you end up in Human Resources? More specifically, human resources for a bunch of superhuman adrenaline junkies who get shot into planets for fun and profit?”

Svenja smiles as she takes a sip from a glass of mineral water. “Really, I can’t imagine it’s anywhere near as exciting as how you became a “superhuman adrenaline junkie who gets shot in planets for fun and profit”.”

“C’mon Sven,” you respond, leaning forward slightly, “indulge me.”

Svenja gives you a mock sigh, and an exaggerated eye roll. “If you insist! Alright. Well I was born and raised on Stromndar, a wholly owned subsidiary of SolarSails GmbH.”

“SolarSails? Your parent were astro-engineers?” you ask, genuinely impressed. Astro engineers are some of the smartest people in Human Space.

Svenja winces slightly. “No. Not at all. They were more… creative types. They did product testing and feedback.”

“Ah,” you respond, immediately understanding. In the proto-post-scarcity economy of Human Space, a uge number of people were product testers and reviewers. Essentially corporate welfare. It’s just a simple fact of life that there just isn’t enough jobs for everyone. So almost half of the human population ‘works’ as product reviewers. You know for a fact how embarrassing it can be coming from a “tester family” when pursuing an education for actual employment. “Yeah. Yeah. Mine too.”

Svenja’s somewhat embarrassed expression transforms into one of relief. “Oh thank goodness. I mean! I-”

>>31698699
>>Churchill is the only one to beat the president in close combat. she'll totally fall for him.

>Mah new OTP. Anyone is better than that Yasa-whatever-his-name-was tool.
>>
You wave her concerns away, “I know what you mean. Really, it’s fine. But hell, I didn’t ask about Mr. and Mrs. Wiess. I asked about Svenja Weiss.”

Svenja smiles, although her cheeks are still a little red. “Right. Well I did well enough in school, and I ended up doing very well on the SMART, and that got the attention of SolarSails HR. They offered me a chance to study at the QED U branch on Stromndar.”

“Wait. A QED U branch?” Quantum Electro-Dynamics, owner of Earth and the wormhole network, runs small and highly prestigious universities on many major settled worlds. Getting accepted to one is a feat to be sure.

Svenja blushes furiously. “Well I- yes. Yes I suppose.”

You lean back and whistle. “Wow. That’s really incredible Svenja. Really incredible. So what did you study there?”

Svenja looks down at her plate and brushes some hair behind her ear. “Oh, just Psychology and Management. Really nothing quite so impressive.”

Before she can say any more, a waiter appears, and deposits menus before you. As the two of you look through the menu for something good Svenja peeks over her own panel. You lock eyes with her and she immediately refocuses back on her menu.

You flip through the menu idly. Although Voytek is sort of the world for all the slavs, established by oligarchs of Russia for everyone in the former USSR smart enough not to try and kill each other for the prefix to their flavor of slav, you still feel as though you might violate some part of your quarter ruskie heritage by ordering borscht.

It is Ukrainian after all. You shake yourself. This is exactly the wrong sort of attitude to take. You decide to order the borscht, figuring that even in a classy establishment such as this, the shi won’t be able to hold up to the stuff Baba makes. That and the Pirozhki should be pretty filling. You confirm your orders on your menu and place it down, waiting for Svenja to make her choices.

As she puts her menu aside daintily, you leans forward slightly smiling. “So. I’m curious. Why psych and management?”

“Well,” replies Svenja, “Psychology is pretty straight forward. It’s just one of those degrees that goes with HR. Besides, Psychology and Management basically gave me a more in depth skillset that someone with an HR degree would have. Besides, I happen to think having a degree in Psychology is slightly more respectable than a degree in Human Resources. And then Management major was mostly just a side effect of taking so many business classes while I was in uni.”

“Huh. Interesting,” you reply as the waitress deposits the soups in front of you two.

Svenja Smiles and shurgs as she gets to work on her own soup. A few minutes of silence. Not awkward silence, but the silence of people enjoying good food, and then Svenja speaks. “So Ivan. How did you end up in StrikeOut?”

No shooting, just a couple of joyrides that he could get away with and CQC.
>>
>>31701051
I'd have to imagine so. He needed some kind of base to build Suicide Pact Axe Man off of other than basic training.
>>
>>31701051

>>31701073 this

he probably was doing fairly lowsec work and then saw some mercs in action or worked alongside them, got a taste of their lifestyle and thought why not
>>
>>31701051
I think we may have been a crazed serial axe murderer in a past life or something
>>
>>31701079

Ahem.
>>
>>31701051

He probably had SOME experience - he needed to pass the exams somehow

I'm going to go ahead and say he was a giant Laser Tag fanatic - it makes sense as a recreational sport in space - and has skills that are applicable to squad tactics like strikeout.

The difference is learning to handle a real gun
>>
>>31701130

Fine, from Grampa, who was a Spetsnaz operative.

Still is actually.
>>
>>31701131

OMG LASER TAG IN SPAACE

FUND IT
>>
>>31701142
Agreed
>>
>>31701142
>>31701130

Seconded.
>>
>>31701142
yes. this pleases me
But no one in the family knows except Ivan.
theyd go on hunting trips together for weeks at a time and Ivan was the only one Pop-Pop confided his secret in
>>
>>31701051
>>31701073
>>31701130
>>31701142
Yeah I like these for his back-story.
>>
>>31701073
>probably, otherwise SO wouldn't have accepted his application, probably a few tours to quiet backwaters fixing shit and peacekeeping

LoL ivan as a tacticool laser rifle fanboy who went 'i'm sick of fixing machines, I can do this for a living'

Yeah i like this better than having action movie protagonist past.

Hell, it just makes his *actual* accomplishments that much more impressiv
>>31701131
>He probably had SOME experience - he needed to pass the exams somehow
>>
>>31701231
>>31701189
>>31701166
>>31701142
>>31701131
>>31701073
So these then?
Was a Laser Tagfag when he was younger, would go on trips with Grandpa to be trained, then when Gramps told little Ivan he used to be a Spetsnaz operative, he decided to apply to the military. With his extensive knowledge in fixing up the laser tag machines, he was chosen to be a Combat Engineer or something?
sound good?
>>
>>31701142

I don't like this is totally uninspired.

Like

he's half russian, lol spetsnaz reference.

Come on.

Think of something actually half-original for ivan.

Citizen's defense force, militia training - maybe an excuse to hang out with friends and get drunk since they're "never" needed, a friend who shoots recreationally...

I like ivan more as an 'everyday hero' who's just a mechanic/techhead with the biggest pair of brass balls you've ever seen

and lol special forces as an excuse just seems -cheap- and weak
>>
>>31701271
Perfect. I support this.
>>
>>31701297
I thought it would be better if we went on the trips not because ' epic spetsnaz gramps is going to train me to be uberrussianninja'
more like ' Fuck yes, hunting trips with grandpa. getting blitzed on fucking moonshine and shooting everything to pieces'
>>
>>31701297
Than use a Space Spetsnaz equivalent.

Or calm your butthurt, either one is fine.
>>
>>31701271
Sounds great to me. Might need to be more like Great grandpappy trained grandpa though. It is 22XX
>>
>>31701297

Yeah, I only mentioned the grandpa thing as a feasible reason for him to be knowledgeable about the tomahawk.

I don't want any "Special Training" just him being very good at using this particular weapon.
>>
>>31701334
then when Gramps told us he used to be Spets and all the stupid shit he would get up to with his mates, we decide to join military because it sounded like so much fucking fun. and because we were a huge lasertagfag as well
>>
>>31700644

We were part of our native colony's self defense force.
>>
>>31701397
Meant to quote >>31701051
>>
>>31701341
>I don't want any "Special Training" just him being very good at using this particular weapon.

"I used to fucking LOVE chocolate frosted sugar bombs as a kiddo. Turns out I won some special merc-idol promotional tour, and won a 2- week paid vacation to MAN OF MYSTERY, and got to hang with all their cast and staff."
"Yeah. I was THAT kid. It didn't even follow the show, and I heard it got canceled later - something about too much testosterone on the show."
"But, while i was there, they caught me playing with some of the props. Like an toy tomahawk. I wouldn't let the thing go, and one of the stuntmen actually showed me a few moves. Didn't stop when I got home, either!"
>>
>>31701434

>chocolate frosted sugar bombs

My nigga
>>
>>31701434

hahahah and everyone thought ivan would be a fireman when he grew up
>>
>>31701434
This sounds much better.

"Aha, I KNEW I was missing something! I haven't had a sugar bomb since I started being a merc; better go order some now."
>>
You sigh and cross your arms, as if recalling something difficult. “Well Svneja. I worked at NepCol as a combat engineer. I… I…”

Svenja looks at you, concern evident. “Ivan, if this is hard for you…”

You hold up a hand, forestalling her. “No. No it’s alright. I… it was an experimental project. I was bitten by a radioactive merc in a lab accident.”

Svenja stares at you for a few seconds before groaning. “Ivaaaaaan…”

You roar with laughter, and soon Svenja joins you with some soft giggling of her own. “Alright but seriously. Combat engineer at NepCol. I ended up taking some proficiency tests, did really well in a few VR sims, impressed the right people during a few riot suppressions, and I ended up getting approved to drop with StrikeOut. The pay was better, the benefits were better, and HR was hotter, so I figured why not?”

Svenja twists a bit of her hair around a finger. “But I mean… were you in combat before StrikeOut?”

“What? Oh sure,” you reply, “Riot suppression, although that was done with non-lethal force. And more than a few instances of fighting off those LLS dipshits in some of NepCol’s more backwater holdings. But nothing really serious. Certainly nothing as exciting as my drops with StrikeOut.”

You decide to withhold any anecdotes about how you got more rifle training playing laser tag off base than you ever did during drills. Well, maybe it’d be better to keep them on hand in case Svenja starts to take you too seriously. Although you’re pretty sure that even the most exciting secfor posting couldn’t hold a candle to StrikeOut. There’s something empowering about being the one who brings the shit, rather than sitting around, waiting to deal with other people’s messes.

“Riot suppression… what were they rioting about?”

You’ve noticed that Svenja’s gone from being friendly and curious to slightly pensive.
>>
>What were they rioting about
>Dunno, never asked.
>Something incredibly foolish. A bunch of jagoffs who got blitzed when the NepCol rugball team won the Stellar Horn.
>Student protest over something like the evils of capitalism. Gotta wonder how they hoped to combat that by flipping my patrol car though.
>Worker riot. They were protesting labor conditions in hazardous environment colonies.
>>Also, how much force did you use to suppress the rioters? Did you agree with them and their actions?
>>
>>31701478

>Something incredibly foolish. A bunch of jagoffs who got blitzed when the NepCol rugball team won the Stellar Horn.

We actually ended up calming them down by singing drinking songs.
>>
>>31701493
>>31701503

Seconded. Seems in character.

>>31701493

Sphess futbul hooligans are the fucking worst.

>>Worker riot. They were protesting labor conditions in hazardous environment colonies.
people riot for all sorts of things

as for force; I'd say like we are now, except non-lethal, we just used enough force to get the job done without unnecessary deaths and damage, that only makes them riot harder
>>
>>31701493
Space future football fans.
All the tear gas, mandatory beatings for destrucion of property past a certain level.
We thought a few guys needed a few more kickings for making such a mess of things for such stupid reasons.

Fucking space commies.

I like this one.

Pic somewhat related, replace Homer with Ivan and ruins with saves.
>>
>>31701503
yes. I like this
also, the other riot choices as well, I'm sure there was more then 1 riot
Strictly Non-Lethal
>>
>>31701493
>>Something incredibly foolish. A bunch of jagoffs who got blitzed when the NepCol rugball team won the Stellar Horn.

"Its hard, you know? I knew these people worked with em, and.... yet, it went so ugly, so fast when sports and liqour get combined. "
>>
“Quite possibly the stupidest shit ever,” you reply, exasperation flooding your voice. “Well at least this one time it was. The NepCol Rings had just won the Rugball Stellar Horn. So naturally everyone’s drinking and having a good time. And it doesn’t take much time at all for people to start crowding out onto the streets right?”

Svenja nods. Already, you can see the clouds of concern that had darkened her visage fading away as you speak. Clearly she’s not one to enjoy hearing about jackbooted tactics. You stop speaking as the waiter replaces your soup with the main course. You take the time to savor your pirozhki. However, even when being savored you still manage to wolf them down. Gazing across the table at Svenja picking at her food like a bird, you speak. “So like I was saying. Crowds on the street. And when drunken crowds are on the street, stupid shit is almost always imminent. This was no different. Some jagoff decides to throw a brick or something through a shop window and voila, there’s a full on sports riot going on.”

Svenja nods, eyes wide. You think she might be lucky that all of SolarSail’s sports teams have historically been shit. “So we get called in-”

“Just a second Ivan,” says Svenja, eye alight with interest, “Are you telling me that it was basically a lateral career move from police officer to corporate raider? I would think there’d be more of an intermediate step.”

You puzzle at her question for a moment before remembering. SolarSail is one of those weird companies, where secfors are broken into civilian policing and foreign defense wings. Even weirder, the part of the secfor responsible for protecting from external threats can’t even arrest civilians. “Oh, well for most companies, there isn’t any line between soldier and police officer, just a matter of equipment. So I guess my intermediate step was a seismic tomahawk and a huge revolver.”

Alright guys, I hate to be a total flake but I really can't write anymore tonight.

I need my Zs. Thread this weekend to get through this and do mission selection so that by next Tuesday we'll be dropping again.

Thanks for playing tonight. and if some one could get the archive done, I'd be most appreciative.

>>31701985
You lazy bastard.

It's cool, sleep well.

Saturday or Sunday?

>spoiler
I know I'll be dreaming of Ivan getting Svenja drunk and then goading her into doing something awesome, which attracts the attention of the local Valkyrie for bed destroying funtimes that Elda walks in on, then joins in on.
