>So far:
Following the trail of Antonia’s missing endurance salves, we convinced a lackey of what appears to be a local gang to help us retrieve said salves. Apparently Iori had “donated” them to the strangely altruistic group. Things got hairy quick when we got found out in the middle of the rats’ nest. Good thing the second to last person we would have expected to do so came to our rescue.
>>
>>31669557

“THE WITCH!” Screams one of the two shakiest hood rats in the foyer. They trip over themselves to grab the knocked out one and scramble past you down the hallway. The remaining five take a step back, clearing the way through and framing Mica in front of the doorway at the same time.

Gone are everyone’s worry about your thievery and attempted escape. All eyes watch for the half elves next move. You test your newfound invisibility slowly walking towards Mica and the exit she defends. The three remaining hoods in front of you give wide berth as you step closer. Mica’s face wears an alien look of determination that falters to relief for a split second as she sees you.

Just as you’re about to step aside Mica, one of the boys starts to move. Mica steps to intercept, but they both freeze.

“Let them go! Back off godsdamnit!” The older girl barks. She leans over the bannister you had just dropped from, one hand on her cap as she glares at her subordinates. She glances to you again, and then gives a longer, almost knowing stare to Mica.

You don’t turn your back to them as you leave the manor. The whole scene has an eerie artificial feel to it, as if you were pulling your head out of the roof of a tiny theatre with an even tinier play in it. Finally the doors close and you find yourself alone with Mica on an empty street.

Mica sheaths her blades after a long pause. Then she sits down in the middle of the street, wrapping her arms around her knees.

>How do you respond?
>>
>>31669565
"For the record, I could have sworn I seen a halo above your head and majestic wings coming from your back when you entered the room."

I have no regrets if she hates us for saying this. She is an angel, mang.
>>
>>31669565
Shower her with whatever thanks we can muster, she did just save us big time.
>>
>>31669819
>>31670191

You crouch down near her, trying to see her face behind her folded limbs and messy hair. “For the record,” you brush some of her hair out of the way. “I could have sworn I saw the huntress herself standing in that doorway.” Mica pulls her head back up, her eyes heavily lidded and her pupils still inhumanly wide from adrenalin. “Her thing is more bows and spears however.”

She giggles quietly, before taking a deep breath. “No fair. I was ready to be really super angry at you just now.” She drops her head back into the little hollow she’s made for it between her knees and extends a hand out for you to help her up. You stand back up and take it, pulling her to her feet.

You hear a window sliding open, just as you look you hear something small land in the snow by your feet with a crunch. Dell tips his head back in acknowledgement, before closing the window again. You pick the tin of salve from the ground and give it a single bounce before putting it away with the others.

“You really got me out a big mess back there Mica, thanks.” She huffs to herself and starts walking down the street.

>[ ] Ask Mica something?

"How late is it?"

"How did you know where I would be?"

And...

"Despite the fact that I found some of Antonia's tins, what did you find after we separated?"
>>
I know some people maybe thinking to themselves, "You should probably ask Mica's opinion on whether Antonia is pulling a fast one on us."

My argument against asking this question is this: Antonia never asked us to get her salves back.

Oh. If at all possible add this, "Well, if you'd like to be angry again with me, ask me why I did this."

Here's my answer. "A hunch and a personal vendetta against one, Iori 'Douchebag.' You were right, it was him all along and I'm angry on why he did it."
>>
>>31670618
Going away for a little bit. Gotta pick up some meds.
>>
>>31670497

You start following behind Mica. The white and gold scabbards actually do suit her it turns out. You would have thought a slight girl like her wearing weapons would have looked off or at least silly.

“How late is it already?” You ask.

“We still have another 20 minutes I think.” Her voice lacks her usual energy. You remember how much older than you she must be.

“I’m pretty sure I found out what happened to all of the tins but, did you find out anything?” She shakes her head, causing her long auburn hair to jostle about.

“I didn’t know where you went to find Iori, so I found Nolan first. He said they saw Rory leave for town hall, and when we got there there was nobody there and...” She put her hands up near her head in an odd nervous gesture. “I thought I would ask them where you were!” She lets her arms go limp, and looks at you sideways over her shoulder. “They showed me! I saw you! I saw them dragging you out of the snow.”

“Fera what are you-”

“I thought the Tillmans had done something to you! I came running as fast as I could.” Mica turns back to the path ahead of her. “You shouldn’t talk to those people. Not alone. Why didn’t you bring one of us with you?”

“I was running out of time, and I didn’t have any better ideas.” You hear the leather in Mica’s gloves groan and twist. “And...as much as I should feel foolish right now, well you aren’t the only girl on this street angry with me right now.” She grows noticeably less tense at your words. Up ahead you see Nolan appear around the corner a few houses away.

“I know we’ve only known you for less than a day, and that I can’t even call you a friend yet...” She stops and turns to you. “But that doesn’t mean you can’t trust us to help you.” Her eyebrows knit. “At the very least, that’s what being our captain means. That we trust you.”

“Don’t say that, I think you’re a friend.” Mica tilts her head as her eyebrows relax. “I’m just not very good at it yet.” You pat her shoulder with the not burning arm. “I mean it’s only been a day.” She doesn’t try to contain the smile this time. The genuine happiness and relief in her grin overpowers the predatory quality it would otherwise have from her mouth full of less than flat teeth.

“This won’t be the last time you scare the heck out of me again will it.” She playfully bats you in the wrong arm.

“N-no, I should hope not.” Mica snickers to herself and heads off. You start to hear Nolan kicking through the snow as he starts to slow now that he’s within speaking distance.

“Oh! Weuh, there you are.” Nolan comes to a stop, putting his hands on his knees and panting. “You are, hooghf, REALLY fast.” He stands back up and looks between the two of you. “What happened?”

“Oh, not much.” You shrug. “I just got stomped on a few times while I was busy getting these back.” You produce two of the tins from your jacket as if you were displaying a hand of cards. Nolan squints in confusion as his head shifts back slightly.

“I’m not going to ask so you might as well do it.” Mica sweeps her hand dismissively as she starts walking back the way Nolan came. He takes a deep breath to steady himself.

“You alright?” You nod. “Well then let’s get back to Antonia then!” He starts to follow Mica.

“Heh, fine. I’ll fill you in later. At a proper campfire.” You start off to follow your friends.

You find yourself actually appreciating the buildings along the streets as the three of you head back to Bell street. Every house is littered with clues of the people that live here. Small things like little homemade wind chimes, or light circles where potted plants that were taken inside for the winter. People bustle about as the town begins to wake up fully. With how much of the town you’ve seen in the last day. You strain to understand why it never occurred to you before that the town is it’s own circle the same way it’s forests are.

You refocus on your immediate surroundings when you notice that Mica and Nolan are speaking with each other now.

“And you know how to use them even? I’ve never heard of you practicing with them. I-I’ve never even heard of you having a set like this before.” Nolan adjusts his glasses as he inspects one of the sheathed blades Mica must have unclipped from it’s harness.

“Why would you have heard of something like that in the first place?” Mica pokes him in the side.

“Agk! T-these are priceless is why! You must know that!” He carefully passes it back to Mica, who swipes it and roughly reseats it to it’s harness.

“Not everyone has giant families that the entire town knows about Nolan.” The usual energy is back in her voice, some how a bit more genuine than before. You step forward and butt into their conversation.

“While the two of you seem to be gossiping would you mind if I join in?” You try tossing your arms over the both of their shoulders. It doesn't work very well, Mica is shorter than you by a hand to it’s knuckles and Nolan is taller than her by an entire head. Also your right arm hurts ALOT, again. “Do you know that girl from the manor?” You say to Mica as you put your arms back down.

“Um...” Mica’s grin goes back to the sleepy one. Then it comes back and she shrugs while rolling her eyes. “Sorta. Would you believe I used to be one of them?

“No shit... I uh, ah, I mean, really?” Nolan scratches the back of his head through his hood.

“I don’t see it.” You say. “You’re too...you.” You make a vague gesture at her entirety.

“They’re not that bad. At least, they used to not be.” Mica rubs one of her arms. “But it’s kinda one of those long stories. I think.”

“I believe you.” Mica gives you an incredulous look.

“Didn’t I just rescue you from an entire gaggle of goons ready to stomp your pretty face in?” You guess you should stop being surprised any time Mica does something that’s cross with the reputation you’ve only caught the tiniest whisperings of. The raspy deadpan in her voice still throws you off anyway.

“Really! Dell helped me out alot when his associates were simply suspicious of me.” You put a row of fingers against your bottom lip as you remember he was the one doing the actual “stealing.” “I hope he doesn’t get in too much trouble over this,” Mica’s eyebrows perk up. “I owe him one.”

“You got one of them to help you? I just thought you had snuck in and got caught.” Her head tilts like a dog’s would as she makes a curious face.

“Well, it wasn’t really that difficult...” You regret mentioning Dell.

“Really? You talk to almost nobody! There’s no way you could hack that.” Mica’s face turns to a smirk. You look to Nolan, asking for backup with your eyes.

“I uh, eh, to be honest,” he rubs the side of his neck while making the entire arm version of a shrug with his other arm, “Your voice IS, noticeably, hoarse today.” There go your ears again.

“Ok really how did you get this, ‘Dell’, whoever that is, to help you?” Mica says.

>No sets, height 6 to obfuscate!

The three of you turn a final corner and can finally see Bell street.

“Well,” you stare into the sky while stitching the story back together, “he was, already worried about Antonia, um, because she’s cute, he said so...” Huntress, you wouldn’t even believe this yourself. “And I told him how sick she was, and that we were friends, and that she would be really appreciative if he heard of what became of her meds.”

Mica stares at you. You think she actually looked at one of your ears. Oop, yeah she did she just checked the other one too. Maybe if you, kinda, yeah ok hood up there we go.

“He was worried about her? I didn’t think there is anyone but us and her handlers who knew.” She starts to smirk again as she encroaches on your personal space. You scoff, unable to come up with a response. “Are you actually embarrassed? What IS that?” She shakes her hands excitedly at Nolan. “Hey hey! stand right next to her over here! Yes right there!” He complies with that same sort of blank confusion he usually has when Mica does something like this. “PFF! You two look exactly the same!”

You quickly glance to Nolan as he stands shoulder to shoulder with you. You don’t understand at all what she means by- oh. It’s the face he makes when you bother him. Do you really look like that right now?

“You know...” Mica continues. “Dell sounds awfully familiar.” You start walking again, hopefully you can escape this conversation by entering the street where there’s more people milling about. “Wait do you mean D?”

“Do you know him?” Hopefully distracting her with talk about the gang itself will get her off your scent.

“A little.” Mica thinks while she pushes a finger into one of her dimples. “The last time I saw him he was in nappies though.”

Ohhh that is not helping.

“H-he was in a gang while he was a baby?” Why do you keep saying these stupid things! Just shut up!

“Ha! No! That’s, no!” Mica waves away the notion. “He’s Kat’s little brother.” You have a pretty good idea who “Kat” is. “If I remember right, he should be turning 14 this year.”

“The last time you saw him was...” Nolan’s eyes dart about the empty air ahead of him as he hesitates. “Over ten years ago? How old are you?”

“23, since last November, why?” Yeah, that seems about right.

“Huh?!” Nolan seems to have been physically struck by the sentence.

“I’m... half... elf... I-I thought you knew.” Mica seems to shrink slightly as her shoulders slump.

“Seriously Nolan?” You slap his back like his brothers do, a few orders of magnitude softer you imagine. He adjusts his glasses again and squints as he stares at Mica.

>Cont.

She rolls her eyes and sweeps her hair all over the front of one of her shoulders revealing one of her ears. She even flattens it out as much as she can before tipping her head forward and fixing her hair back in it’s messy place and snapping back to a standing position.

“I’m all human by the way,” you say, raising a hand, “no cat in me or anything, just in case you were confused.” Your face is starting to hurt from smirking so hard.

“I uh! Sorry! It never occurred to me!” His arms are attempting some kind of gesture but it’s just getting lost in his fretting. “I-I-I have nothing against elves or half-breeds!” Again, words invisibly strike him in the face. “I mean not half-breeds that’s not at all what I meant! I wouldn’t say something like that, that’s terrible and and and xenophobic!” He would have continued sputtering but he quietly gabs at mica’s hand as it comes up to his face, reaches up past his head, and yanks his hood down over his face with enough force to yank his parka up halfway.

She steps back to admire her handiwork. Nolan stands there silently with his arms pushed up and out by the parka riding up on them. “Mmkayh, uhll shuh upf.” The other two of you simply break out in laughter.

After enough laughter to seriously make your abs ache, what feels like minutes later, the three of you arrive back at the big city style inn.

Option 1, yup. I'm on my tablet.
>>
>>31677003

There are a few people in the foyer of the Inn this time. Two adults, a couple it looks like, are either checking in or checking out at the counter. Two small children sit on the long bench style couches that lie on the left side of the room. You recognize them as Andrea’s children, the two youngest ones. You’ve already started taking your boots off when you see the clerk spot the three of you. She puts three pairs of those sandals on the counter, beckoning you over.

“Miss Cross was expecting you, she asked that you be let in as soon as you show up again.” She says as she pushes her glasses above her forehead.

“Are my friends ok to come with?” Feels much better to say this time.

The woman looks past you to Mica and Nolan, she spends a bit more time inspecting him you notice. “Those suites are too big anyway, it shouldn’t be a problem.” She ushers you off with a hand as she slides her chair back to deal with the couple at the counter.

When you get to the top floor you see Roy, Antonia’s butler, sitting at one of the tables with what smells like coco. He and one of the other handlers were conversing with each other while they eat breakfast.

“H-hello...” One of his cheeks bulge with food he was still working on when he turned to see who was coming up the stairs. He swallows it and dabs his mouth with a napkin. “You two are the girls from earlier! I thought you two said you lived here?”

>Mica gets a 2x7 to bluff!

“Aha! Close! Sir, but no I’m just staying here for a while you know, Forging and all.” She takes a seat at the table. “Fera over there is an old pen pal of mine! We’ve been looking forward to this trip for quite a while now!”

What’s a pen pal?

“Oh really? Where are your parents from?” Roy takes a sip as his whole demeanor changes.

“Hmm, you ever heard of a little town called Cern?”

“You from the west end?”

“Yeah, my parents are kinda busy though, they couldn’t come.” She reaches over and picks a corner off the pastry he was working on. “You know how those governing shareholders are.” She pops the food in her mouth as she glances to you, then to Antonia’s door, fast enough Roy doesn’t even notice.

“How does she do that?” Nolan whispers to you as you creep to the door. The door quickly opens when you approach it. Antonia, properly dressed now, but only less ragged looking waves you inside quietly.

The room is in much better order now, the second thing you notice is that a tangle of rubber tubes and glass cups of various shapes now occupies the table. Then you see Tobias and Lem are also here. Lem sits crosslegged in front of the huge windows to the far end of the room, and Tobias hovers around the equipment on the table like a humming bird.

“Wow you’re fast!” Antonia’s voice still sounds as scratchy as it was before. “Good idea with distracting Roy with the pretty one.” She looks over to Nolan. “Well, prettier one.” Both you and him make the same confused face. “How much of it did you find? Where is it?”

You start to open your jacket, making the same twisting motion to undo the first button a few times before you realise it’s missing. You set it on hangars you spot mounted to the wall next to the door, and take out all four tins, including the one she gave you.

“Oh! That’s fantastic! This is nearly half of them!” She maintains her giddiness through a wet cough that stops her just before she was about to take them from you. “Hey Toby! We have an extra tin more than you needed!” The short black haired quickly holds up a hand for her to stop, not looking away from his notes he scribbles in.

“Stop. Don’t hit the table.” He points to an empty place off to the side of his notes. “Put them here.” His focused tone is a far cry from last night you saw him. He slides to the end of the table where she gently puts them down. “Here. You can just use this one now, It’s already contaminated.” He passes her the half empty one. “Remember to keep two feet of clearance from my workspace, please and thank you.”

With that he quickly goes to work carefully slicing the wrapping securing each tin closed with a small pen shaped knife. Once they’re open he starts scooping out their contents into one of the glass cups. After that you aren’t able to keep track of what exactly he’s doing.

“So he has that taken care of then?” You ask Antonia as the three of you back away towards the other end of the room.

“He says that he can thin out the mixture, make it last longer but with slightly less effect.”

“How much less?” Nolan says, holding out a hand. “I’m Nolan by the way.”

“You know I’m sick right?” Antonia sets her hands on her hips.

“Deep lung isn’t contagious.” Nolan insists the handshake.

“Pneumonia is you div.” She snickers.

“Gods you have pneumonia?” He withdraws his hand to scratch the back of his head with it.

“Yeah, bit worse than a cough, I know I should have told you earlier.” She smiles guiltily. “But! Everything’s gonna go smoothly now! You know that alchemist you referred Roy to knows her stuff pretty thoroughly!” She shakes a small vial of a thick blue liquid filled with ashes. “Just finished spitting half a lung out a bit ago,” She takes a deep breath. “I can breathe again! Did you know Toby is her kid!”

Option 1

And...

"Are you really going to go through with this? I mean, there are far more dangerous things in the woods and I'm not talking about the Fey either."

And my battery is dying... gotta call it.

“Pneumonia kill people! What on earth are you doing!” She steps back surprised. You cut her off before she can respond. “Are you really still going along with this? The hike alone is too dangerous for someone as sick as you, nevermind what business the Fey has with us once we cross over.”

“I’m going to have to side with Fera on this one.” Nolan steps beside you.

“Finally some people with sense in their noggins.” Lem stands up now. “I’m not the only one here who thinks this chick is crazy right Fera?” Antonia throws her hands up with an exasperated groan and flops onto the bed. “C’mon be honest, how long would you give her.” Lem arrives at your other side and leans an elbow on you. She’s nearly as tall as Nolan is.

That used to annoy you a whole lot, now it’s just sorta what Lem does. If it weren't for all that business about friendship earlier you might not have even noticed the gesture. Would you call Lem a friend? Long dark fingers snapping in front of your face catch your attention.

“Hey girl, are you gonna help me scold her or what?” She bobs her head like a swimming fish as she speaks.

“See! One week and you’re tree food sis!” Lem half shouts half giggles. Antonia loudly mumbles something indistinct into the bed while batting her fists against the mattress. She rolls over and sits upright, sighing and glaring at all of you.

You pat Lem to get her off you so you can step forward. Antonia pouts and looks out the window as you approach. “Tobias.” You say, still looking at Antonia. She props up her chin on her hands to intensify the pout, yet her eyes curiously wander over to Tobias as well. “Is your mother’s treatment good enough to take care of her pneumonia?” Antonia looks to you now, an eyebrow raised.

“Yes. Of course.” You hear the small boy curtly reply.

“Alright then, I’ll let you come with us.” You say. Antonia turns to face you fully with a haughty face.

“You don’t have the authority!”

“My Da’ organizes this whole tradition. I’d say I do.” You cross your arms. “There’s one condition.” She blows an errant lock of hair out of her face while she slumps back into her pout.

“I’ll bite. What’s your condition.”

“I um... She wouldn’t make it a week like this. I really don’t know how it would go with the endurance salves but-”
