Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, you snuck into an ancient Rhynian fortress and rescued a guard captain from the tender ministrations of bandits. Now it's time to find the treasure that supposedly resides in a vault somewhere in the ruin.

“Well, Gunay-” She cuts you off with a sharp gesture. “Captain Darzi, please.” Normally you'd probably protest, but you're willing to excuse her rudeness under the circumstances. “Alright then, Captain Darzi it is. Let's go find your things. We can worry about cleaning the bandits out of this ruin afterward.” She nods. “I believe my things were stored in a room near-by, though I can't be sure. I would proceed towards the armory and check the rooms I found on the way, if I were you.”

Sounds reasonable enough. You make your way out of the torture chamber, carefully picking your way over the blood pooled at the entrance on your way out. Fulvia and Captain Darzi following behind, the latter leaning against the wall to help support herself. As you approach the end of the hall where Chryssa and Profectus are waiting, Profectus addresses the Captain. “You know, you're the second damsel in distress we've rescued today.” The Captain turns to you and ask in your native tongue. “What did he say?”

Oh, wonderful. A language barrier. Really though this works out in your favor. “He asked how you're feeling.” Gunay shrugs her shoulders. “I feel well enough, all things considered. They haven't been feeding me regularly, so I'm weaker than I'd like. I should be able to manage killing a few aghtak scum though.” You nod. “I have some dried jerky, bread, vegetables, that sort of thing if you're hungry.” She sighs in relief. “That would be wonderful, thank you.” You reach into your cloak and withdraw a loaf of bread, a few sticks of jerky, and good sized sweet pepper. She collects the meal in the crook of one of her arms, eating voraciously while the party moves off down the hall.
>>
Reminder that not every maiden in need is as trustworthy as they seem to be.
>>
It strikes you just how poorly maintained this stretch of the ruin is. The walls are rusted in some places and outright missing in some, revealing the underlying support structure that keeps the mass of the earth above from crushing the facility. The lanterns have all long since been extinguished or stolen, the only light source left are a couple of torches that seem on the cusp of guttering out. You come across a few dilapidated doorways and have to forcefully pry them open to get inside, only to find either a maintenance shaft, janitorial, or an empty room. If you had to guess the bandits have probably already combed through this section pretty thoroughly.

Finally you start to hear voices up ahead, some indication that you're not in some completely abandoned wing of the facility. It sounds like two men discussing the missing raiding group. “-think about Baldev ordering the mine shaft cleared out? Those constructs are going to butcher whoever gets sent, don't know why he's bothering.” Another voice responds. “I think he's probably terrified that the Shah mobilized the army to clear us out or something, he's always been overly paranoid.”

You transmit through the brooches. {I think there's only two, let's just kill them.} Your companions turn to you and nod, Profectus unsheathing his falcata and Chryssa nocking an arrow. You hear the humming of Fulvia's generator begin gradually intensifying, building itself up for a spell. {Leave one for me, my reserves are still lower than I'd like.} They nod, and the four of you charge around the corner.

The hallway in this section of the ruin is in slightly better shape than the previous hallway. A Rhynian lantern flickers weakly on the wall, and the walls aren't crumbling. Your targets are two heavily armed bandits wearing iron armor, one wielding an axe and the other a flail. Chryssa crouches as she spots them and draws back her bow, sending an arrow down range only for it to shatter against one of the bandit's cuirass.

Profectus charges the same bandit, taking a wild swing with his falcata. The bandit blocks the swing with his axe handle, only for it to break in two when the force amplifying enchantment on Prof's blade kicks in. It sends the bandit stumbling back, but doesn't seem to actually hurt him. At least he's disarmed now.

Even when Fulvia launches a ball of fire the size of your head past Profectus, the bandit just puts his arms in front of his face and braces himself. There's a flash of light and a rush of heated air, but the bandit doesn't seem much worse for wear afterward, his armor merely covered in scorch marks. Clearly this might be a bit of a tougher fight than you'd been expecting.

Fortunately your bandit proves slightly less competent. You duck under a wild swing, flail smashing into the wall adjacent, and slip your hand through a gap in his armor to discharge a leeching spell. You only have to maintain contact for a few seconds before he slams against the metal floor, unfortunately he wasn't much of a meal.

The bandit elects to focus his attention on the more immediate threat of Profectus, rather than the man who just knocked his friend out cold. You're lucky he doesn't have his axe anymore, because Profectus doesn't even move out of the way of the fist sailing towards his face. The impact seems to catch him completely by surprise, and your companion stumbles back with blood absolutely pouring from his nose. He's not out for the count, but that looked like it hurt. The bandit follows it up with a swift uppercut to Prof's abdomen, you can actually hear ribs cracking as his fist connects. You're going to need to step in here soon or Prof might be a goner.

You channel a paralysis spell into the palm of your hand, feeling the familiar coldness creeping its way up your arm. It's almost a comforting sensation really, the paralysis spell has always served you well in the past. You slip up behind the heavily armored bandit and slip your hand through a gap in his armor at the neck, discharging the spell directly over his spinal column. You think that's it, he's a goner, but much to your surprise he swings an elbow around and very nearly knocks your teeth in.

You duck under the blow and channel another paralysis spell into your palm, making sure to put more oomph behind this one. A cold numbness claws its way all the way up to your shoulder, and you feel the joints in your arm begin to stiffen uncomfortably just as you discharge the spell into his unarmored armpit. The bandit grunts, making one last effort to strike you only to topple over and hit the floor with a clang.
>Vys Pool: (13/26) You're feeling a tad drained, though it's really nothing to worry about yet.

>Victory!

Profectus is leaning against the wall, still doubled over and clutching his ribs. His nose looks broken, but that's a simple fix. Probably won't even take a fraction of your vys to heal it. Captain Darzi is still contentedly munching on a loaf of bread, though she does stop eating to comment. “Wow, he really got his ass beat.” Chryssa nods somberly in agreement.

As for the fireball earlier, that was just soaked by his armor.
>>
>>31669719
Ah, just reading too much into your updates then.
Carry on.
>>
Well, first thing's first. You need to attend to your beaten companion. You approach him where he's doubled over against the wall. You crouch down next to him, just so you're eye level, and with a truly infuriating grin ask. “You okay there buddy? Looks like some ruffian might have gotten the better of you. I hope he didn't take advantage!” If Profectus could speak right now, he'd probably have something to say about your mother's virtue and your father's sexual proclivities. Fortunately he can't speak right now.

It only takes a wave of your hand for his nose to correct itself, but his ribs prove a bit more difficult. You actually have to concentrate on knitting those back together, healing a punctured lung, and stopping any internal bleeding. Still, you manage to fix him up more-or-less as good as new without too much difficulty. Once you've finished he shoots you a glare, but he doesn't stay angry for long. Before you know it he's got a big goofy grin on his face and he's clapping you on the shoulder. “Gods above I want to hate you right now, but you know what? I can't hate a man who heals my ribs.”

You nod sagely. “That's the entire reason I started studying magic, I can be a snide asshole so long as I help people at the same time. Speaking of being a snide asshole though, what happened there? You were getting knocked up and down the hallway.” He scratches the back of his head uncomfortably while you pull a length of rope out of your cloak and approach the bandits. You hear Captain Darzi speaking with Chrys behind you. “Alright, I've got to ask. How is he doing that with his cloak?” Chryssa responds a moment later with. “I don't know, magic.”
(1/2)
>>
Finally, while you're going about the task of tying up the bandit your paralyzed, he responds. “Well... I was never really that great a soldier. I was passable, sure. Just not great. That's the story of my life, truth be known. Always slightly sub-par.” You wave him off. “Oh please, Profectus. No need to be so fatalistic. You can learn to be a better fighter.” With the paralyzed bandit tied up, you draw your dagger from your cloak and swiftly cut the other bandit's throat. “There, now then. We've got about... an hour to kill. Probably less, considering what a fight this bastard put up. Let's see what they were guarding, yeah?”

You stand up, hauling your captive along with you. There is a rusted out iron door a few feet away from where these two were standing. No windows or peepholes, so you can't get a look inside. No lock either. You don't hear anyone inside, but they might have heard their buddies getting attacked and decided to wait in ambush.

You motion Chryssa forward, and she approaches the door. She gives the handle a sturdy tug and the door doesn't budge, so she pulls harder. Slowly, it screeches its way open. If there was anyone at all in this section of the ruin they know where you are now. Inside, you see an assortment of crates stacked against he opposite wall, and various bits and bobs scattered throughout the room. Furniture mostly, but you spy at least one locked chest.

It can kill someone if there are mediating circumstances. For instance, if the target is wounded. Basically, if one were to leech from an enemy vatis during a duel after already wounding them heavily and after a lot of vys had been thrown around by both parties, it would probably be enough to kill them.

But right out of the gate, when an enemy hasn't used any of their reserves, you can't just drain a person dead. It'd basically be an insta-kill button.
>>
>>31671192

You reach into your cloak, withdrawing your crowbar. “Looks like it's time to set to work. Let's just work through this from one side to the other, be real thorough.” Chryssa and Profectus both nod, while Captain Darzi makes her way inside and starts glancing around for her things. Fulvia takes up a position by the door and says. “I'll keep watch, it would not do to be ambushed.”

Assignments agreed upon, everyone sets to work. You, Chryssa, and Profectus move from crate to crate. You use your crowbar to pry crates open, where as Chryssa just uses her ridiculous strength. Profectus doesn't have any tools of his own so he can't be of much use, but he provides moral support. He also helps sift through crates you've already opened.

You find that most of the crates are just food. You also find a lot of pottery and wool, neither of which are all that valuable. You find a crate full of several bolts of silk, you stuff those into your cloak. A bolt of silk will usually sell for a hundred or so silver, and you found twelve of them. That's good money. You find a shipment of iron ore, currently unsmelted. Worthless to all but the right buyers, but it might still be wise to drag it along just in case. You find five crates full of lumber, an especially valuable import into Pidjata since there aren't many trees in the region. You could probably sell the lot for around two thousand silver, if you found the right buyer.

You find two crates full of weapons, none of any quality but even a crappy sword is valuable. You also find an small crate of silver ingots, probably worth a small fortunate all on their own but the money changers will cut off a hefty commission if you try to exchange them for coins.
(1/2)
>>
Sadly, none of what you find could be described as a truly liquid asset. It's all stuff you'd need to sell from a market stall or sell in bulk to a merchant, probably taking a hefty cut in profits due to the nature of selling in bulk. You do find a chest with a few hundred silver coins in it, and you do find Captain Darzi's things. She waits for you to finish searching the place before ushering you out, probably so that she can change.

Loot:
>8x Wool Crates
>5x Pottery Crates
>5x Lumber Crates
>2x Weapons Crates
>1x Iron Ore Crate
>1x Small Silver Ingot Crate
>12 bolts of silk.
>Chest o' Money

If there is anything you DO NOT want to take, speak now or forever hold your piece. If nobody has any objections, it's all getting stuffed in the cloak.

You're not really sure how to go about this, frankly. Your cloak is definitely big enough to fit an entire crate inside, but do you just take it off and drape it over the top? You try that, and it just sits there. Eventually you try pushing it down onto the crate, and you make some progress. Once it's about halfway through you see one of Ricky's incorporeal tentacles slide its way out of the cloak and wrap around the crate, hauling the entirety of the crate inside without any difficulty.

Well that's just great then! Disregarding the horrified stares of all your companions, it's nice to know your pet monster is going to help you out. It takes some doing, but eventually you get all the food and all the loot inside. While you're at it, you also elect to steal, or perhaps repossess would be a better word, some of the furniture laying around this storage room. You snag a few chairs, a table, a few bookcases, an old cot, you even find some dusty old rugs rolled up in one corner and shove those inside your cloak as well. Hopefully that makes Ricky's job a little easier, and the inside of your cloak a little nicer should you ever need to entertain guest in there.

You waltz out of the room, past the uncomprehending faces of your compatriots. Eventually Chryssa, Fulvia, and Profectus follow you, adamantly refusing to ask any questions. Captain Darzi follows shortly afterward, now dressed properly, armored, and with a sword on her hip. You note she's taken care to conceal her burn scars as best she can. She bows to you as she exits. “I thank you, now I believe we have some bandits to kill.”

>>31672196
A little bit of both.
>>
The five of you continue onwards, through the twisting halls. The further you go, the nicer the hallways seem to become. The walls are no longer rusted except for a few odd places, and never extensively. Plus, all the lanterns still function. You absentmindedly wonder what on Earth caused some sections of the ruin to deteriorate faster than others, perhaps merely the prevalence, or lack thereof, of vys? Or maybe excess moisture in the air? Ah well.

The more pressing matter is thus, you've come to a fork in the hall. Down one path, you think you hear men chattering. Three, four, maybe even five. Probably the majority of the remaining bandits. Down the other, you hear cavernous silence. The sort of heavy, oppressive quiet that one experiences in massive chambers. Only the occasional, distant screech breaks the silence.

>Shoot, forgot my image for the previous post. Here it is.

You motion your party down the hallway the voices are coming from, transmitting through the brooches. {We can always explore the cavern later, lets finish off these bandits.} Your companions all nod, and you set off down the path to your left.

The further you walk, the more distinct the voices become. You decide you must be approaching the barracks, because you distinctly hear two groups of bandits. You think it might be those same three you saw in the hallway when you had only just entered the ruin. The other two you think must be in the barracks proper. Unbidden, you recall what one bandit had told you. That Hani keeps his journal under the third mattress on the left after one enters the barracks. You're sort of tempted to read it now, if only because you could.

You shake your head, trying to force yourself back on track. You've got two groups of bandits to take care of, and after your companion's performance in the last encounter, can you really trust them if you come up against more of those heavily armed and armored bandits? Profectus got his ass beat and neither Fulvia or Chryssa managed to actually do anything useful.

>You'll take care of the two bandits in the barracks alone, your companions and Captain Darzi will take out the three bandits outside.
>Don't split the party! You'll attack the three bandits outside together, the other two will come to you.

You explain your plan to the party in hushed tones. You and Chryssa, as the most capable close quarters combatants, will attack the bandits while the rest of the party hides out of sight. Once the bandits are focused entirely on the two of you, the rest of the party will come around and hopefully finish them off quickly, before they manage to overrun you and Chrys. You stress that it's important they strike immediately after you give the word, because even as competent as you and Chrys are you'd probably still lose in a protracted fight due to sheer numbers.

With the plan decided, you withdraw your spear from your cloak. You think this will actually be the first time you've used this spear since you picked it up from the blacksmith, hopefully it performs well. Chryssa withdraws her daggers from her sleeves, holding them at the ready. After a brief moment of mental preparation the two of you dash around the corner and charge the enemy.

Chryssa leads, and performs admirably. She tackles the nearest bandit to the ground, driving her daggers into the poor man's back as the does so. He goes down screaming, only to be silenced when she rips her weapons free and cuts his throat. Before the other two can react she's tucked into a roll and popped up on the other side of them, ready to defend. Really, it was an impressive maneuver. You almost can't believe she's a better archer than she is knife fighter.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
You perform decidedly less impressively. At least, at first. The men are prepared for you by the time you get there, and though you make a strong thrust towards one of them he manages to parry and the other counter attacks. You end up channeling vys into your extremities just so you'd be quick enough to knock the bandit's sword aside and swing the haft of the spear around to smash the man in the knee cap. There is a satisfyingly loud crack and the bandit collapses. He opens his mouth to scream, but you thrust your spear through his throat before withdrawing to a safe distance.

>Enemy Turn
>Remaining Enemies: 2x Bandit Heavies, 1x Bandit
The surviving bandit, a man in light, airy robes armed with a hatchet, calls out. “Get out here! We've got intruders!” And you hear heavy footsteps and clanking armor from the barracks. That's... probably not a good sign. The lightly armored bandit takes a swing at Chryssa, and though she tries to dodge out of the way she's not quite quick enough. The hatchet plants itself in her side, but it was a weak swing and her armor soaked most of the blow. It's probably not that bad a wound. Certainly pissed Chryssa off though.

The remaining two bandits are both heavily armed and armored. One wields a maul longer than your leg, and the other a two handed saber. The man with the maul picks you as his target, while the saber wielder goes after Chryssa. Fortunately they both seem fairly slow. Chryssa manages to duck under the bandit's swing and then counters with a punch to the gut hard enough to put a fist-shaped dint in his iron armor. You're relatively certain that broke a few of his ribs, but he just grunts.

Your contemplation of the bandits injuries is interrupted by a block of iron the size of your head swinging towards your leg. You're going to need to get out of the way if you want to have any chance of walking unassisted for the next few minutes.

You leap back, catching the maul just below the head between the tip of your spear and one of the side prongs. It allows you to force the weapon into the ground and pin it there, even though you have to put most of your weight onto your spear to prevent the bandit from throwing you off. Seriously, what is up with this guy? Samja are usually pretty frail and on the weak side. Not that you'd ever admit that in mixed company.

>Ally Turn
>Enemies Remaining: 2x Bandit Heavies, 1x Bandit

Chryssa absentmindedly throws one of her daggers at the lightly armored bandit, but it's a poorly aimed shot and he dodges it without too much trouble. Still, it distracted him long enough for her to get close to the heavy. She manages to slip past his guard and is about to stab her dagger between the joints of his armor, but he suddenly brings his helmeted head plummeting towards her and she's sent reeling back, nose bloodied.

Fortunately, the rest of your companions remember their jobs. Profectus leads the charge, falcata in hand. He swings it into the back of Chryssa's heavy and the blade plants itself firmly in his shoulder. When the force amplification enchantment fires, he actually manages to sever the entirety of the heavy bandit's arm. The bandit screams and stumbles away, eventually collapsing due to rapid blood loss.

Fulvia fires a spell at your heavy, a fireball you're fairly certain. There's a flash of light from behind the bandit but he barely seems to notice, he doesn't even glance over his shoulder. You're not sure why Fulvia insist on using fire magic when metal magic would make much more sense. Why doesn't she simply crush them inside their armor?

Captain Darzi goes after the lightly armored bandit, saber in hand. Her first blow is blocked by the bandit's hatchet, but she brings fist into his gut and then, while he's doubled over, runs him through. As the bandit swings the maul down towards you, you try to catch the handle on the prongs of your spear. Unfortunately you miss, and the maul swings be undeterred. You're going to have to take the hit, and you might die. For a moment you're terrified. Then you feel power flood through your limbs and you leap backwards. Chryssa acts first. She leaps towards the heavy, dagger in hand. As she hits him she drives the point of the blade through a gap in his armor and ends up knocking him off his feet. He's already a goner, but Chrys makes sure of the fact. She rips his helmet off with her bare hands and grabs hold of his neck. All it takes is a slight squeeze, a twist of the wrist, and his neck snaps. The battle is won.

You push yourself up. Chryssa was the only one of your allies wounded in the fighting, her nose is bloodied but doesn't look broken, and she took an axe to the side. Neither wound is particularly serious, and you manage to heal her with but a wave of your hand. The axe wound knits itself back together, healing without leaving a scar. Her nose stops bleeding, slight bend correcting itself. She nods to you in thanks before getting off of the dead bandit.

If what the bandits you captured in the pass told you is correct, there should still be four bandits sin the facility. There were sixteen left behind to guard the base, and you've killed twelve.

Another question, can we not leech vys from foes we killed? Does it dissappear immediately?
Also, please try leeching vys from the lamps next time.

Yep

We really should go back for it.

Pretty sure his armor was enchanted because he resisted our Paralyze.

Not to mention Heavy Armor is fucking valuable

I've been suggesting leeching Vys from the lamps ever since we cracked on last thread, but everyone ignores my suggestions, and i'm to tired to samefag them.

Damn
Unless Soma puts that into suggestions people will keep ignoring that. We really need to try it, we might fully fill our reserves that way.

Loot the lamps if i am not here next thread people. A lamp that never goes out should worth a lot.

We're gonna cast Leech on one first.

Then remove one and see if it's transportable.

Maybe nice little self recharging Vys battery? holds like 5 Vys?

I thought the lamps were connected to a grid. They aren't?

They should be. I remember something about there not being cables nearby. We never examined them closely though, so that is definitely something to do.

Soma said they were free hanging.

I assumed they collect ambient Vys similar to meditation.
