Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can interrupt a string of actions.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When rolling 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted, including those with dice rolls or extra spaces.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

While we're all waiting, I wanted to present the idea of cleaning Xile of Blood Magic and the natives for Arcturis and Donovan. I think they would like to get their ancestral home back, maybe in exchange for being able to analyze the Sky Engine (Hell maybe even take it for the Nemesis). Plus its filled with EXP we can eat in the process, and maybe even more Dynamo shells.
>>
>>31550079
We need to do something about the sky-sever as well. I don't want to find out if it can follow us into the void, or see what it will do when it realizes we're about to escape Venia entirely.
>>
>>31550098
I'd like SM to clarify if the Skysever is bound to the Sky Engine, or to Xile itself as the core. If it's the latter, taking the Sky Engine might be the umph Nemesis needs to breach the outer wall without risking damage.

Plus I think Donovan would really enjoy cleansing his ancestral home with us, since he's more than powerful enough to hold his own at our side now. Arcturis could hop on board for a family outing to speed up the process.
>>
>>31550108
I wonder how Arcturis is treating Donovan now that he's back, fully-powered, and has proved himself to be far more of a man than any of the king's other sons.
>>
Hey, wanna see if Fang will let us eat "That" since he didn't get to use it on Sandles? Of at least tell us what it does?
>>
>>31550129
Probably taking some time to be a real dad again, if my hunch about us setting his follies straight is correct. Outside of that, Arcturis is honestly a pretty good guy. 9/10, would initiate diplomatic ties with.
>>
I can't wait to see what Venia actually looks like from space.

SM, there's a few Workarounds being thrown out there if you're trying to Post. If you're on Firefox, Get noscript and disable 4chan. you'll be able to post from the top, but not reply to anybody. If you're on Chrome, open the Java console under Tools, click Settings, and hit 'Disable Java'. or you can just buy a 4chan pass if you've got money to burn.

NO JEWPASS FOR ME
>>
Recent Events Summary:

The battle is over; the day is won. Sir Donovan Flint is free of his parasite.

But your fight is not over.

The elf queen, Ellendra Kalladar, has arrived in Arland to establish new relations with the Ring City and other countries following Sandalphon's death, the interm leader being Raphael.

With the core of the world more unstable than ever, it lies upon you to fix things before the barrier can collapse. The final means to realizing your true might lies in the Void, on the island from the vision.

With that in mind, you asked Queen Kalladar several questions, and finally understood how she came to encounter you all that time ago - and how she gave you an opportunity to resist the forces of Erebus's original plan, and find your own way.
>>
What if Venia's a box instead of a square?

That would explain the circular core a little more, considering it's surrounded by land.

Alright boys and girls, you can see the archives for all the normal bullshit.

At least we had funkytown while we were waiting.

>Last time...

>Last time...

The doors of the room burst open. Vidar Blackwater strides into the room, leading a harried looking Obis and a worried Freya.

"Father, for the Light's sake, they're having a private - "

"I don't give a damn!" The old pirate stares at you. "Shadow! Or Erebus! Or whatever you are! I hear you're going to the end of the world and then some." He jabs his thumb at his chest. "I'm your man, because I'm bored as all hell and I need an adventure. That, and I've got more expertise in that area than anyone else in the room. The 5th Highest excepting, perhaps."

"Nope," Auriel says. "More than me too. I'm not crazy enough to get close to the edge of the skysever."

A thought strikes you.

"Obis," you say.

"Hmm? Shadow?" You unPocket the water gem. It shimmers in the light of the meeting room. You hand it to Obis. He takes it from you, gingerly, wondering at it. "...what is this?"

"It's what I found on aurora. A piece of Leviathan himself." You decide that hiding anything from the three others is pretty pointless - they're already in on the better half of it, now that they know your identity - so you fill them in on a few of the particulars. "So...knowing that Leviathan will hold a grudge against you and your people, I'm entrusting this to you." You look back at the queen. "If the situation becomes desperate enough that Kan-Abar must be sacrificed...you can go through its prince."

Fang chuckles. "That was rather devious, Shadow."

The queen nods firmly. "I understand. I accept your decision."

What do you do now?

Getting Geb back is an after-barrier-fixing thing.

Also, Nemesis itself is able to get through the core of the skysever. Auriel doesn't think it will have problems getting outside the edge of the world.

Ahh, in that case just the 8/8 airship then. Otherwise, to the nether we go.

>>
>>31550622
But her backup plan for fixing the barrier if we don't come back involves Hecate, Leviathan, and Geb, doesn't it?

And per the prophecy -- which was suspiciously cut off at the most important part--

they need Donovan to free him.
>>
>>31550647
I do too, but the immediate benefits of MPVI far outweigh the scattering of things we could get in the middle tree ATM. And it would leave EXP left over for Erasure/Conversions.

Then we should warn her that you can't free Geb without Donovan, per prophecy.

Since she probably didn't get told about that yet.

Surely she'd want him to stay in Venia then.
>>
>>31550673
Potentially, that's why I'm torn. But consider where we're going. All the Mana and spell power/regen we can muster would be vital to overcome any unforeseen obstacles in our way. I highly doubt there's Mana Pools outside of Venia.

I just realized that holding a vote right now it going to be kinda hard.

All the time I planned for this thread has more or less been burned already, I need to be in bed soon. Wasn't gonna be a long thread anyway.

So, if you want to leave for SPEEHHHSSS right now, you can do so. I will write a big long description of what happens. All capabilities are in place. Also, there will be no consequences for not spending EXP, I won't have you run into an encounter if solely for the fact that I don't want to write it right now.

If you would rather do something else than that's ok too, but time is now important. You could talk to people but significant side-quests are out of the question. Well, I guess they aren't really, but I don't think people are willing to risk total destruction for a trip to Xile.

Going off of what Raphael said, Hyperion is a pretty straight shooter. I imagine he would be quite pissed at what Sandal has done in his name for the last millennia.

I think if we talked to him as we are, not the old Erebus. He would be quite agreeable.

It's hard to say. Sandalphon warped Hyperion's self-perception with all his idolatry. It's quite possible Hyperion is still as bigoted and unreasonable as Sandals was himself.

I really hope you're right, though, for what it's worth.

We'll find out soon enough, I think.
If Hyperion doesn't make any aggressive moves, I'd be open to trying some dialogue. But if he puts a toe out of line, kill his ass. Don't need another Matthel.

You turn back to the room. "Then...with that, we need to be leaving. But Queen Kalladar."

"Yes, Shadow?"

"A while back, we recieved a prophecy from Taremtis."

"Is that so? Was there something relevant, there?"

"Yes," you say. "If the backup plan requires Geb's prescence...you'll require Donovan's prescence. Taremtis mentioned a parasite of Light attached to Geb. Or within Geb. Donovan is the only one that can deal with it."

"Considering his formidable aura, I can see why that might be the case," the queen says. "Sir Flint. I know that-"

"I'm going with Shadow," he says, "and there is no force in this greater plane of existence that can stop me. If things look bad...I'll hang back. And that's it!"

The queen sighs. "Very well. Be careful."

With Abigail, Auriel, Donovan, Ila, Cain, Hamil, Tyrael, and Adavan - who returned just before you left - you fly to Haven.

You take to the ship's intercom and explain the situation. They all more or less know the full story, now - Ila was bombarded by all of them for details, and you couldn't keep it back from them at large. If anything, you've risen from their savior to their god. Just when you were getting used to all the smiles and waves and nods. Now you have to deal with awe-filled stares.

Most of them get off at Haven - at your repeated insistence. Steward has made the accomodations there much more comfortable; you know they'll be safe and well while you're gone. A good fifty or so mages remain on the Nemesis, a skeleton crew capable of running the engines, the bridge, and the cannons. In any case, Auriel can control most of the important functions from the captain's chair.

>con't
>>
You ask Adavan what he's been up to - and it's as you've suspected. He's been working quite hard to try and relax Hecate into her new position as she's recovered from the power expenditure of the chronomancy. You wonder why he's leaving with you - but he tells you she ordered him to do so, as an observer on her behalf. Apparently they share a psychic link, so he'll be able to keep her up to date on the details.

You're not sure if that comforts you, or bothers you.

Along for the ride is Vidar Blackwater. Freja was reluctant to let him leave alone, but his argument that Obis needed a shoulder convinced her to stay.

And, surprisingly, Hemmelus offered to come, siting scientific curiosity. His expertise would be helpful any time - you were glad to have him on board.

And so the Nemesis left Haven, on into the darkness beyond Venia, where no one has ever gone before.

No one but you, in some past life.

You feel an uncomfortable tension in your shoulders.

---------
---------

You're all on the bridge. For a time now, the Nemesis has been sailing low, coasting over the water straight West of the Kanian peninsula. Blackwater stands at the windows, his arms folded, staring out at the ocean.

You walk down from the upper platform and across the rows of terminals, standing at his shoulder. "You seem quiet, now," you say.

"Ah," he says. "But this is it, Shadow. The final frontier. When I was younger...I loved to travel. As a privateer for the Vin family, I saw the whole world. But there was one place that I could never go."

"What's out there?"

"A storm," he says, "that wraps the whole world. In a way, it feels like a shield. But it's also a wall."

"Was it always there? Even before the skysever?"

"Who knows?" he says. "I've known a few angels in my time. Before the skysever, anyone that went to the edge of the world never came back. The Void is a mystery."

You feel a Wind in the distance.

"...it's here."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT1FDhbJI-A

Before you is a rising wall of dark grey, anvil-shaped clouds. They swirl and shift angrily.

In a moment, the front windows are pelted with a wall of rain and hail and wind. The whole ship groans under the force of the storm.

"All hands, brace!" Auriel shouts.

You and Blackwater strap yourselves into nearby seats. You hear a fumbled clacking nearby. Donovan is struggling to get his belt on. Abigail offers a calm helping hand, and the belt clicks in easily.

"Worried?" you ask him.

"Worried? Me? Who's worried? It's not like I dislike flying into thunderstorms at hundreds of miles an hour or anything. I mean, I've seen worse, right?" He giggles slightly.

Abigail gives you a concerned look.

You shrug. "We'll be fine."

"That's what you said when you grabbed me and took off faster than -" The ship rocks. Donovan grabs for his armwrest. "Oh shit! Oh shit!"

"Relax, boy," Blackwater says. "We're not even at the fun part yet."

"Fun part?!"

>con't
>>
The nose of the Nemesis penetates the outter wall of the thunderheads. Lightning immediately flashes and flickers around you - but it's absorbed into the Nemesis's hull. Bolts strike and snap, but do no damage.

"Step one," Vidar says. "I got past that bit."

And then you see the tornado.

Donovan's face pales. "Oh, Light."

"And there's step two."

The column of green Wind must be at least a mile wide. It looks like it could lay waste to a city. The bridge begins to vibrate.

"AURIEL!" Donovan shouts.

"Don't worry honey. I got this."

"You're crazy! All of you are crazy!"

Abigail puts a finger on her chin. "Probably, a little bit."

"More like a lot!" Tyrael calls.

Adavan wraps his bony fingers on his armrest. He almost looks bored. "What a baby."

"I'm afraid I'm siding with Donovan on this one!" Hemmelus says.

The Nemesis slams into the winds at full speed. You can see the aura of the ship glow black against the raging tide of blood magic. Skulls and spirits, the trapped souls of mages, swirl like specters in the terrible storm. They throw themselves against the ship, each one a minature tornado of force, but they glance away harmlessly. With each blow, though, the Nemesis creaks and rocks, rumbling through the storm.

And then, you're through. As suddenly as it came, the winds are gone.

>con't
>>
Before you is nothing. An endless nothing. Blackness, in every direction, as far as the eye can see.

But it isn't totally black. No. You can see the twinkling stars, the constellations. Here, the sunlight is unhindered by sky or shade - sharp black shadows are cast across the bridge.

"...it's so quiet," Ila says.

A slight purple glow appears around the edge of the windows. You can feel the Wind dynamo change slightly.

"Hmm." Auriel taps her screen. "Life support systems? I suppose those are what are letting us survive out here. It's drawing power from our Wind dynamo. Light! External temperature is...hot. Really hot."

"How hot?" Adavan asks.

"Uh...120 degrees. Getting hotter by the second."

"The sun here is fierce," Adavan says. "Nothing to stop the light."

"Umm..." Auriel cocks her head. "...artifical...grey-vit-ee? Does anyone know what gray-vit-ee is?"

Everyone looks at each other, then at Hemmelus.

The sage shrugs. "I'm a sage, not a god. I've no idea."

"Well, whatever it is, it's turned on. I guess that's a good thing. Shadow, what's our heading?"

You try to focus on the Impression of the vision left inside of you. "...right now, just go straight. It's far."

"How far?"

"At this rate? I don't know. A week, or so."

"A week? Glad we brought food for a month."

"Hey, can you turn us around?" Abigail asks. "I want to see what Venia looks like."

"I can do that."

Everyone leans left in their seats as the ship starts to rotate. Vidar unsnaps his belt and takes to the windows. One-by-one, everyone follows suit.

"This is it," the pirate says. "Venia. Our world. From the Void."

And it comes into view. Everyone stares.

The first thing that grabs you is the barrier. You do not have a word in your vocabulary to describe how truly massive it is. It's so big, so encompassing, that even by leaning all the way close to the window, you cannot see its bottom. But from the top third or so you can see, it's definitely spherical. The barrier is black, but glows with a purple ambient light.

And then, Venia.

It is a solid plate of mass - curved, slightly, but not quite as curved as the barrier. It is -floating- on top of the barrier itself, suspended, as if it itself is an island. That explains the gap you flew through after going all the way to the barrier yourself.

The oceans simply drop off the world - but you can see the mists being sucked back under the landmass. Around the entire shelf of land is a mighty dome of Wind, a never-ending storm, obscuring the details of the continent resting in the ocean. The skysever.

As you rapidly gain distance, you can see the plate of Venia moving. It's rotating around the barrier, as if on a track.

"By the eight elements," Hemmelus says. He claps his hands together. "I...the water cycle. I have visual confirmation that the Water Cycle theory is correct! The world is flat! Ha! This'll show those damn Imperial round-worlders!"

"Is the world rotating?" Abigail asks. "It looks like it's moving around the barrier."

"No, not quite," Hemmelus says. "Look at that. You can see injury on the surface of the barrier."

You glance down - and he's right. You can see the tip of the crack in the barrier. The white-gold glow forms a break in the purple light. On occasion, you see it pulse with energy. The white flash blinks at you like a lighthouse.

"The patch is rotating along with the landmass," Hemmelus says. "Therefore, Venia is in a fixed position - and the entire barrier is rotating. This lends credence to the idea, then, that the barrier is indeed analagous to a massive dynamo shell containing the Core of Chaos."

"What's the water cycle?" Ila asks.

"Great pockets of Ice, holding large amounts of water mana, sit at the bottom of the ocean," Hemmelus says. "It was suspected that water leaving Venia was recaptured by these pockets, which then released it back into the ocean - a process that contributed to world currents and climate. Seems it looks to be true."

"...it's beautiful," Blackwater says.

"Yeah," you say. "It kinda is."

Abigail is at your side, then. She takes your arm, and pushes into your side. You wrap her close, and together, you watch the world you're desperately trying to save slowly shrink in the distance.

You can feel the Island, now, as if something was lifted off your senses.

It's waiting for you.

That's actually Aurora. Remember how Adavan and Obis and Freja went for the Fire Key alone? The island was listed in old Kanian records as the "Island of Sealed Fire" because Logi hid something there after decimating the Aurorans - i.e., the key you needed.

That was time frame after Hecate sealed herself, but before the annihilation event. A lot of bad shit went down then because the lesser elementals weren't around to stop it.

Sun/Moon key was successfully hidden by Black Hand agents.

Others were discovered and taken in the final days.

Aeolus gave the Wind Key to the Goddavi family (flint's ancestors)

Same with Raijin and Lightning to duke's ancestors.

Logi flashed-flamed Aurora and then stored the key there as a final fuck-you to Leviathan. Note that Leviathan was typically the aggressor in their battles and killed a lot of Logi's land-dwelling worshipers before that.

The elementomachy was a nasty, ugly blood feud. There were no winners, and no good men.

>>31551850

Venia is somewhat largish. USA would probably stretch from Kan-Abar to Port Vanta.
