Previous thread:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/31490490/

Most philosophers agree on the fact that life is, in most cases, unpredictable. Take your case, for example: Not 72 hours prior, you were in your room, studying Magic as usual. Now? You are on a boat, flying high above the ground, off to be married to the Princess of the Doomlands, as decided by your father, King Truly of Lionhide.

You look at the black plains underneath the speeding craft. Behind you stands the stern figure of Eurus, the Ferryman and the one currently piloting your mean of transport. The old man seems almost nonchalant, despite the difficulty of the task and the consequence of a loss of control at this height, but you remember he introduced himself as a Master of One. Flying this boat is probably what he spent his life doing, and judging by how old he looks, he has decades of practice.

“Could you tell me anything about the Princess, Master Eurus?”, you ask with your the most respectful tone. The winds carry the Ferryman's answer, still in ryhmes:

"She is a fair and gentle soul, if there ever was one
Has plenty of power, but is scared to use it
Of her destiny, as a result, she did little to none
No victory on her side, no feat added to her merit"

Well, that is something.

What to do, now?

[1/?]
“And about her father? Overlord Darklies?”, you continue. This, the Mage doesn't answer immediately.

“A mighty monarch is the Darklies who chose the name Ignus
Strong as a bear, smart as a ferret
He is the best of the dozens who ruled over us.
However, and this is not a secret
He lacks a certain style, when Magic is used
Yet his power is enormous, his skills at their best
He cares about his lands, his family is loved
Of his qualities, there is no contest!”

He then stops talking, staying silent and perfectly still. You can see he is concentrating as the boat start to turn to the right.

While he does this, you open your book about the Doomlands' custom. You nearly reached the end, but there is still the chapter on ranks and governmental positions to read. As you start, you learn that the ones considered the absolute best at something earn the title of [Insert name of the thing here]master. It is apparently a relatively recent change, as it was a tradition of the kingdom of Pallando, who was among the firsts to fall to Darklies's invasions, but it was only officialised ten years ago.

As you turn a page, Eurus's voice reaches your ears once again. It surprises you when his words are devoid of rhymes or of the sound of wind, allowing you to hear with perfect clarity: “Young Prince, the Dark Shard!”

>>
>>31517540
Either that or magic that allow us to create things.
>>
>>31517582
I also want summoning if we can do this. It's got a lot of non-combat applications too. If we research non-magical science, we can summon dry ice into the atmosphere for cloud seeding, we can summon fertilizer to help this wasteland, we can summon resources the country's lacking in, etc.
>>
>>31517608
>>31517582
These seem similar enough.
>>
Summoning costs a lot of energy, and items and monsters summoned only last for as long as you spend it. No one is powerful enough to create something out of nothingness.
>>
[2/?]
You look up from your book and see it. One word come to mind: Huge. There are plenty of other words that could have been used to describe the giant black stone peak that stand, unique, in the middle of the dark plain. Cyclopean, threatening, scary, covered by spikes would be good candidates, for starter. But the sheer size of it is enough to steal the words from your usually quick mind. From what you've read, this is the place Ignus Darklies wrestled control over the Doomlands from Calus the Earth Mage's clutches. Literally wrestled. This... mountain is said to be the result of the battle. At its base, you notice a metropolis, the biggest city you ever saw, buzzing with life and activity. And Eurus's boat is making its way to the Shard's top

[3/3]
The black boat lands on the flattened top of the gigantic stone structure, dodging the spikes with perfect mastery as it descents. Eurus hands you the dagger you gave him, and you do the same with the branch he left in your care. From a set of stairs dug in the rock, a man wearing black approach you. Not particularly old, his hair are none the less completely steel gray. He looks into your eyes with a stoic expression. “Welcome to the Dark Shard, Prince.”, he says with the voice of the man who seen it all and found most boring. “You must sign the register, if you wish to enter.” He opens the large, ironbound tome he carried under his arm to a blank page, and hands you a quill and a bottle of ink.

You know it, every spellcaster know it: Names have power. That is why no Mage worth his salt reveal his birth name to anyone. The reason is obvious: As your birth name was imposed to you by your parents, anyone able to manipulate the Magical principle could use it to impose his will on you, or, more accurately, to prevent you from using Magic against him.

Did you forget that this place is the most powerful empire on the continent? It already is an economic and military powerhouse and it has plenty of mages in the military (I am guessing at least).
We should pick something for personal advancement not for national advancement. also we will be tested so we need to pick something that helps us pass tests

Transmutation is the art to change one matter into another, or to change the shape of one matter. It costs less than outright summoning, but eventually everything returns to its original state, unless costantly fed with energy.

Mind Magic is even less costly, but more difficult: You have to do the Magical equivalent of breaking into someone's house, pass all security and then challenge them to arm-wrestling, and this for the duration of the spell.

Hey fucktard, how do you test a plan to use someone's given name against him?
Only possible way is to cast a spell that uses that name. Which requires an investment (you must first find it out, then get the ingredients for the spell).

I flat out refuse to believe the OP was telling the truth, he's just messing with us. He wouldn't just blatantly kill the MC over something trivial like giving a name.
>>
>>31518647
Not even that, just kill us.
>>
>>31518667
This is a wizard quest, not jock quest. There's no point in getting fit when you can use magic.

giving a name? no
picking a fight and being rude to the super powerful, yes.
His example was "poke a dragon = instant quest over"
In the post you replied to I expliictly stated that it isn't not the act of not giving the name, but the issue was that the phrasing suggesting picking a fight over it
>>
>>31518686
For not giving a name? That's just stupid, why would he do that when he knows that we're being expected by the MOTHERFUCKING DREAD LORD who would have his balls for breakfast?
>>
>>31518707
Then refuse politely, what's the big deal?
>>
>>31518667
Yes if we get a chance to train we could get stronger. MC will probably never be as strong as his dad. But we could get stronger than we are.

>>31518698
Sword mages are awesome. And, we could still be and arcane archer like people were talking about before.
>>
>>31518701
not him
but the quest is actually full of trolls. they fucking hijacked the first thread and there is a guy trying to fake out the op. plus flamers.
it is reasonable to assume that right after the last flamers stopped they would switch to making uber retard sujestions as their means of trolling.
and honestly, there is a difference between "I don't like it" and "I am a complete retard". tg really IS full of spergs and actual medically diagnosed retards who are completely awful at this shit
>>
>>31518735
>Then refuse politely, what's the big deal?
that the post said to refuse rudely. that is the big deal.
and there is absolutely no reason to refuse because ALMOST EVERY MAGE IN THE WORLD USES AN ASSUMED NAME.
And we already invented an assumed name, that has no power over us.
So why refuse at all?

>>
>>31518779
This literally goes back to
>any choice I don't like is a troll

If you let the QM do the choices then we're basically reading a story book.
>>
OP, I'm wondering if you can make illusions that are so real that they can hurt people and interact with physical objects. Like Al Mualim did in Assassin's Creed 1?
>>
>>31518840
>To make a point
the only point it would make is that the MC is an autistic retard
but really, its because they are trolls.

>>31518850
No, its only troll choices are trolls.
One of the most important job of the QM in tg is to tell trolls and or retards to fuck off so that the quest doesn't suck and get ruined. because if he goes with the same fagging trolls who hate quests they WILL ruin the quest and everyone who isn't a retard stops reading it

how can the QM tell? by using his brain.
>>
>>31518850
This. You do know that there's a reason why QM wrote FOUR choices in his entry, right? There's not a single "correct" choice, they just lead to different kinds of results. Stop being so prissy about the fact that other players dare to have the audacity to think differently than YOU.

>>
>>31518938
This is what happens when you advertise your quest on QTG. Seriously every time I see a new quest I tell the QM not to make and posts in that thread because it will draw the trolls like moths to a flame. But this QM did it before he even started. Rookie mistake.
>>
>>31519010
He announced it in /qtg/ ffs.

You never do that.
>>
>>31518995
It's frustrating, isn't it? Why even give an option if you're going to ignore it? It would've felt entirely fine if the OP had just asked "what's your fake name" of us, I'd have no problem with that but now his behavior leaves a bad taste in mouth.
>>
>>31519042
He did the right thing.
>>
>>31518986
Cool. You said the only bad thing with illusions is that it's hard to make perfect ones right?
I think we should be an illusionist since they don't have to be perfect to fool someone, you don't have to be invisible to hide, you just have to stand still, and being transparent will still help.
>>
>>31519017
It's the right thing only because you agree with it, not because it's the objectively right thing to do. Can you see beyond your bias why people might be upset about it?

you said "I am going with john magnus unless there is overwhelming majority against it"
at the time you said it (the vote cutoff) the vote was 3 for John magnus, and 2 for John magnus lionhead. So 5 total... while one guy said to run away, one guy said to refuse, and one guy suggested another name.
So, overwhelming majority. then we had a long debate on whether or not to add the lionhead punctuated with trolls trying to get us to act lolrandumb. And you ignored them
Good job QM, you are being testing by fire and you are exceeding expectation so far.
>>
>>31519100

>>31519100

This is what happens when you advertise on QTG. Those people hate quests. If you ever run another quest please do not talk about it there first.

Think of it like a challenge; "how long can I run this quest without someone talking about it on QTG"
>>
>>31519331

I disagree. QTG's a great place to go too to discuss the quest, that's how some quests actually became popular because a playerbase was established there.

You write the name you chose upon your entrance in the world of Magic. Johan Magnus of Lionhide, as you have been called for nearly ten years now. The man in black seems satisfied with this, and closes the book with a nod in your direction. “Please follow me.”, he says, before turning heels and going down the stairs you saw him climb. With a wave of your hand to Eurus, you follow him. Soon, you arrive to a large, circular room, lighted by two dozen of torches. The walls, the stone floor, the ceiling: Everything is painted green, with an impressively complex silver pattern engraved in it. As you set feet on the final steps, a voice breaks the religious silence that occupied the room previously: “No, no, no! This won't do. This just won't do!

A puff of red smoke explodes next to you, and a woman, clad in a crimson suit, appears in its center. You notice the top of her head barely reaches your eye level, despite the stiletto heels on her feet. She shoots you a disapproving glare through her triangular glasses, and then grabs your chin.

“Hmm, need a goatee. And a cape. I see a leather armor, for starter. Maybe black, with the Bride's blazon embroidered on it.”, she says dismissively. “Now, Modemaster, it is not the time for...”, start the man with the register, before being cut by an inquisitive raised finger darting a few millimeters from his eyes. “Shut up, Scribemaster! Fashion does not wait!”, she nearly screams at him. She then reports her attention to you, and plucks out one of your hairs.

>refuse
I especially liked how 3 of the 6 total refuse posts in the entire thread say to refuse the not just to sign our name but the entire wedding. a notion we defeated 3 different times in last thread and QM explicitly told us would lead to our country being crushed by the empire and us becoming a fugitive. At some point character established motives can start trumping the shitposters.
Especially because normal people are not going to bother to defeat the same troll post on the 10th time it gets suggested. so the QM has to say "mmm, this was shot down 9 times already, I am just going to ignore it like everyone else is rather then say "aha" nobody bothered to downvote so it must mean we do this"
every quest where the QM did not learn to filter such things ended up ruined, lost its readership, and died

It's deciding not to throw a itchfit over a single fucking hair and the royal fashion expert (and if her master title is anything to go by she is THE fashion expert) deciding we need a makeover because we do not fit what is expected of a prince here at all.

This is literally her job and, if we do not start looking a lot more imposing soon, odds are people are going to shank s, so letting her go agead is the sensible thing to do.
>>
>>31519846
oho, now that IS an interesting idea. it would be a gamble, we could come off as mysteriously different or hillbilly.

Then again, maybe she can incorporate just enough exotic fashion from our kingdom into the outfit?
>>
>>31519866
>This is literally her job and, if we do not start looking a lot more imposing soon, odds are people are going to shank s, so letting her go agead is the sensible thing to do.
oh, another good point. i almost forgot that everyone has to prove their worth around here.
>>
>>31519750
"Mode" is german for Fashion.
The Master title is only granted to THE best at something in this nation.
Getting a makeover from her is pretty fucking sweet.
>>
>>31519866
I just don't want the MC to appear as the main star of a minstrel show, is all. Black leather and spikes is what a 12 year old would think is cool, while I'd like him to be just himself, like a real person you know?

cute sayings from disney cartoons. but what is being yourself?
is showing so you don't stink up the place and get diseases "not being yourself"?
is cutting your hair so it looks attractive to you "not being yourself"?
is wearing clothes that make you look pretty "not being yourself"?
>>
>>31519930
why not both?
>>
>>31519930
Let's not unnecessarily handicap ourselves by rejecting a free makeover intended to make us look more imposing by the national expert on fashion, okay?
>>
>>31519940
Changing into clothes that you don't like certainly isn't being yourself. Let me put it this way: what is wrong with our mage's clothes?
>>
>>31519972

Why the fuck would we NOT approve of something that makes us less likely to get shanked by people considering us weak.
>>
>>31520007

Anyways if you're confident in yourself you appear sexy smooth regardless of what you wear - that's why cool people get away with wearing dorky clothing and so on.
>>
>pulling out fashion decisions on top of the already existing shitstorm
OP you dun goofed.
>>
>>31519997
Don't confuse actual with apparent.
An actual act of maturity and courage can easily be mistaken for an act of ignorance.

You want to grow a beard? groom it somehow so it is clear you are doing it on purpose and not just being a neckbeard slob.
You want to break social mores? make it very clear that you understand the mores and CHOSE to violate them in a specific manner to appear as a rebel rather then an autist (I mean this in the clinical sense of "can't underestand social situations")

besides which, you are still stuck on the notion we don't like it when most of us had a nerdgasm about getting an evil makeover.
Maybe this is how MC always wanted to dress but was worried about being burned as a witch in his backwards home country where they thinks all mages are faggots
>>
>>31520020
Because in my mind the clothes sound gay. And dressing differently can be a sign of strength too - we're not afraid to not wear what everyone else is wearing (because we're that badass).

You don't flinch or bat an eye at this extravagant and jerkish display. “And who are you supposed to be?”, you ask, deadpan, as she apparently starts comparing your hair with colors and tints from a book she apparently summoned by a snap of her fingers. “I'm Modemaster, chéri. The one charged to transform *this*”, she points her index at your face, “Into THIS!”. She expands her arms, a dreamy smile on her face. Then, the cold, determined look regains her face, and she continues to examine your hair side-by-side with the pages of her book. “Modemaster, it is not the time for this!” , says the man, Scribemaster. “Overlord Darklies gave me instructions and we're already...”. He is cut once again, this time by a series of loud stomps from behind the closed double door that serves as the room's exit. Scribemaster becomes pale, and even Modemaster seems to get worried, making urgently her book disappear.

I'm not entirely sure leather armor and a cape is the right outfit for us, I'm not saying we don't need a makeover, but I don't think that leather armor is sending the right message.

We aren't a fighter, we can't back up dressing like a dashing brigand with action to match it.

Instead modify the mage/scholar thing to work, play the mysterious magical foreigner angle, maybe a dark purple or dark red robe instead of black.

The door bursts open, and you get your first looks at Overlord Darklies. Huge. Once again, that is the first word that comes to your mind. Between your father, your brother and the other warriors of Castle Lionhide, you are used to being around tallpeople. But this man is at least two heads... two of your heads taller than you, and he's three times as large. He's wearing what appears to be a dark red surcoat over a plate armor of some black metal, with huge iron-reinforced black-leather boots on his feet and a large, a red cape on his shoulders, maintained there by impressively-sized pauldrons. Due to the bronze barbute covering his head, you cannot see most of his face, aside from the bulk of white hairs and the massive beard of same color overflowing from it. Yet, the burning, literally blazing eyes you see through the helmet's slots are enough to make you recoil. Doing this, you discover that you are not the only one is this case: Scribemaster has taken at least a step back, and Modemaster is actually hiding behind you, trying to make herself even smaller while stopping her shaking.

“MODEMASTER! I SHOULD HAVE KNOW!”, booms the gargantuous man. He then starts taking heavy, slow steps toward you, his boots resonating against the stone floor.

1. you kill them at range before they close into you. your argument could be used verbatim for why a dagger is better than a sword
2. if they get past your weapon you used it as a quarterstaff and block and strike with the shaft

First of all stab and trust are the same thing. Second, I think your thinking of spears that can only stab. Glaives can slash just like a sword can.

A glaive is basically a sword that's been attached to the end of a staff. They actually come in different lengths. The really long ones are not good in close combat but the shorter ones can be just as good as swords.

Once he arrives next to you, he continues: “ACCAPPARING MY SON-IN-LAW BEFORE I SAW HIM, HMM?!?”. Modemaster looks down sheepishly. He then turns his attention toward you, and bend in order to put his head at your level. Between the helmet and the beard, you manage to catch a huge, board smile, and he slams his enormous, iron-clad hands on your shoulders.

Oh, well, you didn't need those shins, anyway.

“Yessir!”, you say hurriedly. “The same happened to me when I got caught in my studies. It was a pleasant journey: Eurus was very helpful, and I've never seen anything like the Dark Shard before. It is an honor to meet you.” He then let out a big laugh, slamming your back with enough force to nearly send you flying.

“I LIKE YOU, JOHAN, I LIKE YOU! YOU LOOKS LIKE A MAN WE CAN COUNT ON, SOMEONE RELIABLE! AND THAT, MY LAD, IS WHAT ALL TRUE RULERS SEEK!

The image of King Truly of Lionhide, who probably chose his subordinate based on the amount of beer they can drink in one try, floats in your mind. You decide to bury this idea away.

“ANYWAY! HOW ABOUT I SHOW YOU AROUND?!?”, continues the Overlord. “PERHAPS I SHOULD TAKE YOU TO YOUR QUARTERS?!? OR, SINCE I'VE HEARD YOU'RE A MAGE, YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE MYSTIC FORGE?!?”

He then comes closer, and with a nearly chattering rib-shattering elbow blow, he says in what would be a conspiratorial tone, if done at normal volume: “OR MAYBE YOU'D LIKE TO SEE MY DAUGHTER ALREADY?!? MOUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”

He's probably trying to get to know us and understand how we think, he isn't going to ignore what choices we make, but I think he'll keep most of that to himself.

However I bet he'll throw some sort of public and obvious test of character at us at some point to (hopefully) give us a good first impression with his people. Or it'll kill us.

“This Mystic Forge sounds incredibly interesting, sir”, you answer.

“NOT THE KIND TO SLEEP ON THE JOB, HMM!?!”, Darklies booms in his usual loud growl. “MOUHAHAHAHAHA!!! I LIKE YOU, LAD! I LIKE YOU!” And, whit another slam, he starts to guide you through the Drak Shard's corridors. You go down seemingly infinite stairs, the persons passing near you bowing before the imposing form of the Overlord, until you finally reach the bottom of the stone structure. Pointing at two large doors engraved with runes, Darklies warns you: “MY BOY, THIS IS THE FORGE ALL TRUE SMITHS THRIVE FOR! SO BRACE YOURSELF!

He opens the door, and you instinctively put your arms before your heat to protect it from the heat and the light. It's a furnace, even several feet away! You see fire, indistinct figures moving, and not much else. Your nose informs you of the smell of burning coal. Your ears report the characteristic sound of hammers hitting metal, and given the volume, you are going to say there is plenty of them. But it is the Magic you feel that amaze you: You are invaded by the sensation of dozen of people using Magic at once... No, that's not it. You feel an extraordinary amount of Magical energy, even if almost none of it is currently being used.
“The coal the Southern Mines sold us is shit, M'lord.”, you hear one of the figure says. “THEN USE THE ONE FROM THE EMERGENCY ROOM, MELTMASTER! THIS STEP IS TOO IMPORTANT TO GO TO WASTE! ALRIGHT! KEEP IT UP, BOYS! I'LL SEE YOU SOON!”, Darklies responds before closing the doors.

Two servants appear, bringing the two of you glasses of cold water that you are quick to drink. “AYUP!”, says the Overlord once he finishes his glass. “IT'S HOT EVEN FOR ME, DOWN THERE! “YES, I SAY SO MYSELF! BUT NOW, IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO SEE SOMETHING EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE: MY DAUGHTER! FOLLOW ME, MY LAD!” He starts climbing up the stairs again, with you right behind him. This time, the trip is shorter. You estimate you are currently at the middle of the Shard's height when Darklies suddenly stops before a solide stone door, a red lozange with a black rectangle at its center painted on it. “ALRIGHT! THIS IS MY DAUGHTER'S QUARTERS! THE WHOLE FLOOR IS HERS! AND SOON, YOURS TOO! MOUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!” You are starting to get nervous. The Overlord must have sensed it, because the next thing he says to you is: “DO NOT WORRY, LAD! I'LL SEE IF SHE'LL LET US IN!” He knocks to the door, dealing it blows that could have incapacited a wild boar.

What's the part of your brain used to deal with the supernatural notice is the black horns on both side of her head, her pure white, hairless skin, and her lack of face.¨

You look at her. She seems to look at you.

A deep blush then colors her... cheeks? Like a red trail on a sea of white. Without an insant spared, the door violently close on you and Darklies.

The armored man looks at you, apologetic: "SHE'S VERY SHY!"

I admit it, I expected a face. And I bet she has more supernatural weirdness going on than just that. I guess this explains why Darklies didn't marry her Mother.

But she is totally adorable, I think she likes us, we're keeping this waifu.

What if we were to host it somewhere else, like on Anonkun?

I like her. Is she able to talk or project her thoughts to people, or does she have to write things out? If she's able to see at all we could learn sign language too
