Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, you escaped Anthus and started your journey towards a temple devoted to the water goddess. On the way you used this moment of relative peace to read a book, talk with your companion, and have that same companion mutilate your face.

You stare at the piece of bloody cheek flesh, the scar depicting your brand taking up most of it. You think, for a brief moment, about bringing it with you. After all, it would be a great souvenir. You tamp that initial urge down, instead opting for the slightly saner option. “What? No! Just toss it on the fire. Why would I want to carry around a severed piece of my cheek?” Chryssa shrugs her shoulders, tossing the piece of skin on the fire. “I don't know, but you don't always make what I would call obvious decisions Mikhael.”

The scent of charring meat filling the clearing, Chryssa retreats to her tent. You worry, briefly, about the smell attracting predators. Fulvia is keeping watch, but you're still a little wary. In the end you decide there isn't really much you can do about it and assume a meditation pose, thinking back to what that book said about meditating on leeching. It had incrusted you to really focus on the process by which you fill your reserves at the beginning of each meditation, and then essentially try to externalize and focus the same process.

As you slip into your trance, you almost start drawing ambient energy into yourself reflexively. You've done it at the start of almost every meditation session you've participated in over the last thirteen years, it's a pretty strong habit by this point. Fortunately you manage to stop your initial, almost unconscious, draw on the energy of the world around you. Instead you very deliberately and carefully hollow yourself out, creating a void for the energy of the world around you to flow into. You don't really see how one would go about directing this phenomena, but you suppose you'll just have to try.

As you finish filling your reserves, you turn your inner eye to the world around you. There are plenty of plants for you to drain vys from, though none of them a particularly rich in energy. You could always drain vys from one of your companions, though that would probably be rather rude. The guar would also make for acceptable targets, though they may die if you draw too much.

Yup, the only reason this region and your homeland use gold and silver is because the Rhynian Empire used gold and silver. Outside of the Successor States and your homeland, the world is mostly a barter economy or what they consider currency wouldn't be recognizable to you.

Woo!

Finally getting to join in after spending 2 days catching up.
>>
You try a few things before making any real progress. You try hollowing yourself out in just such a way that you'd draw vys from one particular direction. You try surrounding the hollowed out core in a 'shell' of vys save one hole. You try pushing vys into the hollow while at the same time forcing it out. Nothing really works, but then an idea springs to mind. What if you extended a tendril of energy towards the plants, and then hollowed that out instead of yourself? The vys from the plant would flood into the tendril to fill the gap. Sort of like a mosquito in a lot of ways.

Your first attempts at this... don't go well. You reach out towards a blade of grass, and then lose focus and the tendril dissipates. You actually manage to connect to a blade of grass, but when you hollow out the tendril it just collapses on itself. In the end it takes four tries before you're finally successful. A tendril writhes its way out of the core of your being and latches itself to a blade of grass. Carefully, you hollow out the center of the tendril and just a trickle of vys flows into the gap you created from the blade of grass. You try to expand the hollow core of the tendril to bring in more energy, but as you do so the blade of grass withers, wilts, and dies in short order. You retract the tendril, confident that you've mastered leeching but not particularly enriched by the energy drained.
>Vys Pool: (21/25)

Your eyes snap open as you conclude your meditation. Profectus is busying himself folding up his little woven grass hammock and trying to shove it into his bag. Chryssa has a pot of some sort of thick stew cooking over the fire. The clearing, you note, has grown by several feet in diameter since you started meditating, and your guar are crouched contentedly together. Fulvia is waiting patiently at the edge of the clearing, presumably for everyone to finish packing and mount up.

You push yourself up, shaking out your legs and rolling your shoulders. You've got a long day ahead of you, and a little breakfast seems to be in order. You take a seat at the camp fire and peek into the pot of bubbling stew. You smell some of that jerky, and see a few chunks of bread floating about inside. A few vegetables here and there as well. “What did you make this morning?”

Chryssa shrugs. “As Profectus had termed it, 'Wish Stew'. I threw some stuff together and wished it tasted good.” She ladles you out a bowl, and you take it gratefully. As you're about to take a bite she interrupts. “You know, our water supplies are running low. We didn't have time to stock up before fleeing the city. Do you think we should find a spring or a river before entering the desert?” You materialize a cup of ice in front of her, she jumps, but grabs it before it has a chance to fall to the ground. You fill her cup with water.

“I think we have it covered, it's arid in Pidjata but not to such an extent that I would be unable to sustain the-” You glance at the guar and your companions. “-I guess, seven of us. Counting the guar, and not counting Fulvia. Really more like five, since the guar don't drink much.” She nods, and eyes her cup of ice cold water suspiciously for a moment, as if she expects it to vanish at any given moment. Just to mess with her, you decide to make her worries come true. As she raises the cup to her lips, the water dissipates into thin air. She shoots you a glare when she realizes what you've done. “Is now really the time for pranks?” You grin and fill her cup once more. “Yes, not like we have any pressing concerns after all.”
(1/2)
>>
After that you focus on your meal. Profectus eventually joins the two of you around the campfire and Chryssa ladles him out a bowl, while you produce a cup of water for him to drink. The three of you end up going through about half of the pot, the rest Chryssa seals up with a metal lid of some sort and stores in her pack. You get up and rouse the guar from their slumber, briefly watering the four animals before mounting up. Your companions follow suit, and so the party sets off.

Deniable Assets Quest and Aspirational Emperor Quest

Ruseman has very good taste, I'm a big fan of the former
>>
You pull out that Rhynian book with the odd title, Abusing Metaphysics as if They Were Your Serving Girls. You wonder absentmindedly whether or not you'll need to have extensive knowledge of abusing serving girls to understand this book. You certainly hope not, you've never even had serving girls. Your Master was certainly wealthy enough to afford a few maids, but he always said something about being unable to find willing hires after 'the pincer incident'. In thirteen years of studying under him, you never learned what the 'pincer incident' actually was.

You crack the book open once the four of you are back on the road and settle in to read. The first few introductory pages are a long disclaimer about how the book is inappropriate for women and young children, which puts you slightly on edge. Surely the title is just an attention grabber, right? This author isn't going to actually explain the laws that govern magic and how to abuse them through the lens of molesting slaves... right?

Wrong. As you get into the actual book itself you find that at every opportunity, the author describes magic as a sultry young maiden who needs to be taught her place in the world. It borders on erotic literature, frankly. You're slightly uncomfortable reading this with your companions present. You'd probably just set it aside for later, if the knowledge contained within didn't seem so useful. Once you puzzle out how to interpret all the sexual puns, metaphors, and similes you feel that you're really learning better ways to meditate on metamagic, even though you're only a few chapters in.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
>>31478765
Never heard of Deniable assest quest.

But i've heard Aspirational Emperor Quest was great (and kinda like A.I. Quest) and it's on my list
>>
For instance, the author suggest to young Vatis that they weaken what he terms the 'thin sheet of cloth separating you from the flesh hidden behind'. He goes on to explain what he means by this. That the barrier between some ambiguous realm from which all magic originates and this world is thin, and that with the proper precautions one can weaken that barrier. You scan through the pages for any explanation of what this 'magical realm' might be like, though he never offers any sort of explanation. He briefly posits that it is the realm which the gods call home, and our own is merely a shadow of its glory. Unfortunately you can't find anything beyond that brief blurb.

In order to weaken the barrier, according to the author, one must... wrestle serving girl of metaphysics in the mud of reality. You can't help but cringe a little at some of this imagery, this author really would've been better served just explaining the concepts he's detailing plainly instead of trying to make everything some sort of dirty joke. That aside, assuming your interpretation of this author's suggestions is correct then one must only poison the ambient energy around themselves to weaken the fabric of reality. Sounds simple enough on paper, but the author mentions that it took him weeks of meditation to fully grasp the concept and put it into effect. He suggest a few shortcuts for those disinclined to poisoning reality, namely meditating adjacent a Rhynian generator, or in the presence of obscenely powerful magical artifacts.

“Everyone, get ready for a fight.” Chryssa reaches into her saddlebag and pulls out her mask, putting it on carefully before sliding her bow off her shoulder and nocking an arrow. Profectus grunts as his arm shifts and cracks, heat boiling out of the fissures that form in the dark rock. That really must hurt, certainly seems to from what you've seen so far. “Try not to overexert yourself, Prof. No need to get too troubled by a bunch of bandits, if that's even what we're dealing with here.” He nods his head, but with his jaw clenched shut as it is he can't really respond.

For your part, you pull your spear out of your cloak and heft it in your hands. Mounted as you are, a solid charge and a good hit from your spear should put an end to damn near anything. Once everyone is prepared, you spur your guar into a full sprint towards the mountain pass. The closer you get, the more clearly you can hear the sounds of combat. You even see a jet of flame shoot skyward and here the rush of air that accompanies it. By the time you finally reach the pass, the scene before you is one of slaughter.

The same bandits who extorted you for all your hundreds of gold the last time you used this pass have surrounded a caravan. Perhaps fifteen corpses litter the battlefield, most of them you'd imagine to be guards though a fair number of them bandits. The only reason the fight still rages is because a stone wall has been erected around the caraveneer's wagon, where all the goods are kept. Obviously, the caravan had an Earth vatis on hand who erected the wall as a last ditch effort to buy some time.

The bandits are trying to either climb or tear down the wall, some of scaling the cliff face to try and find a way to shoot down into the little enclosure, while others are lobbing rocks over the wall. One of the overseers, a man in vatis robes, is trying to weaken the wall with fire magic. You doubt he'll be all that successful, he obviously hasn't been so far. The other overseer, the one you talked to when you previously encountered these bandits, is shouting at the top of his lungs. “Just give us what we want and you can go free! You're surrounded, eventually you'll have to come out!”

In total, you'd say there are about eighteen bandits in all hassling the caravaneer. There may be more hidden out of sight, but you can't be certain. They don't seem to have noticed you yet, so you have the initiative.

Bullets and the casing should be easy enough to manufacture. It's the primer and recipe for gunpowder that will be harder to find.
>>
>>31480372
That is some very small and intricate work to encase the gunpowder without setting it off, as to much pressure will set it off, as will to much heat.

We'll first have to take a shell apart.
>>
>>31480302
frankly, it's seem inefficient in this configuration. we can burn people worst by directly using fire, and we can kill probably more by freezing them or by using ice shard.

on the other hand in closed area, it could be a viable alternative, like a primitive explosion. it could also be interesting as a mean to neutralise but don't kill our target. still would be harder to control than ice, tough.
>>
>>31480481
We could just use Blast + Fire for an explosion.

Or Rang + Paralysis for nonlethal
>>
You look to your companions, and then grin. Revenge is sweet. “Attack.” Chryssa pulls back her nocked arrow and takes aim at the overseer shouting at the caravaneer. You see the lenses in her mask shifting, one sliding out of the eye socket and one beginning to glow softly. You really wonder sometimes just what all that mask does. When she lets the arrow fly, it plants itself dead center in the vatis' upper back. There's a strangled cry as he pitches forward, and before anyone can realize what's happened Fulvia and Profectus strike.

You hear the whine of the generator on Fulvia's back as she causes a spike of metal to spring from the earth, though its intended target manages to jump out of the way just in time. Profectus unleashes a torrent of flame that reduces one of the other archers to ash. The bandits are in a disorganized panic, the remaining overseer doing his best to rally his forces before they suffer anymore losses.

It's not like they're going to be hitting the gunpowder filled casing with hammers. Nor would there be any heat involved when filling the casing with gunpowder. They would just seat the bullet into the casing, probably with some kind of press.

The whole point of gunpowder is that it's relatively stable, and won't go off unless the primer is struck.

>>
>>31480948
It's not going to magically explode if the casing isn't the right size. You would need to use to primer to ignite it.
>>
You condense water from the air into four spears of ice, similar to what your opponent did in your duel to become a Master vatis. Unfortunately, you're not nearly as drunk on power now as you were then. How easy would this fight be, should you only take a little hit of spice? You would be able to dominate these lesser men completely, reduce them to less than nothing, if only you'd take a little hit of spice.

You take a deep breath to clear your head, and send the spears of ice shooting towards their target. He proves surprisingly good at avoiding your attacks, almost dancing around the spears as he makes his way towards the barrier erected around the caravaneer's wagon. A place where he thinks you can't reach. You send the last of your spears hurtling towards him, more forming as it crosses the distance. You think you've finally got him, but a burst of flame quickly reduces the spear to naught but steam.

You send your newly formed spears of ice towards the vatis all at once, and this time he has more trouble with them. He dodges one, blast a few with a jet of flame, and then finally one of your spears of ice finds its mark, stabbing him in the shoulder and knocking him off his footing. Unfortunately, you don't get a chance to deliver the killing blow. His men are getting themselves organized and you have the feeling you may have to worry about dodging some arrows soon.
>Vys Pool: (14/26) You're starting to feel a little drained, but not too badly.

>>31481159
Pressing gunpowder causes it to explode.
>>
How was the world not destroyed back when the spice was being created and civilization was more advanced?
If we were as strong as a grandmaster of 2-3 elements when huffing, how strong would a real grandmaster of a few elements be after using it?

And now imagine multiple people using it at the same time and duking it out.
>>
You see archers take up position and nock arrows, splitting their fire between the four of you. Three of the eight fire at you, while two shoot at Profectus and two at Chryssa. Only one deems Fulvia enough of a threat to bother shooting at her. The spearmen, for their part, have gotten into formation and are maneuvering to keep you corralled, a few looping around to try and get behind you. You'd rather not attempt to charge, mounted as you are. That could end badly.

The Vatis you wounded raises his hand towards you and a roiling ball of flames forms in his hand. He's casting a fireball, and a big one judging by the looks of it. Being

I still don't understand this desire to use the spice.
Mayb I'm reading into these scenes too much but it seemed like the spice gave the god the oppertunity to reach into our world through us in a way and interact/influence is. Especially after reading the Abusing Metamagic book when the author stated that we draw Vys from the realm of the gods. Maybe what caused the dead god to be imprisoned was that Vatis discovered the spice and it's effects and they kept using it. The spice could weaken or allow somebody to weaken the veil between the realms an the god decided to reach out and influence this Vatis driving them insane causing god like Vatis to wreak havoc. Surya seeing this shit was like nah son fuck that noise and curb stomped the god, banished him and imprisoned him. This caused the spice to stop being produced. Yeah I know this theory seems like shadowruns to the max but still the spice weakening the veil or allowing someone to draw more power out would explain why we get such a massive increase in power.
>>
>>31481597
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

might wanna change it and post the new one from twitter

>>31481569
Fuck.
Alright, new tripcode! Will announce it on twitter to confirm.
>>
>>31481604
Waaaay to many shadowruns.

It's just magic cocaine, the only reason we had the whole god thing was because of that fucking mask
>>
>>31481591
that's great, always enjoy having enough vys to actually do something and not pass out.
>>31481604
which is why we shouldn't be using it any time soon lest we turn insane like Hayes.
more metal training sooner rather than later = good.
>>
>>31481656
If the god who said he's watching us saw that we weaken the veil so much that he can reach out to us why wouldn't he?
Plus look at our personality we had some doubts about killing The Lord at first hell we were put off by killing the girl in the house and the collateral of the fire.
But when we took the spice we had the urges to just tear the man asunder and we didn't even know him.
>>
>>31481782
*put off by the idea of killing the girl to keep her quiet
>>
>>31481782
We were power tripping, it doesn't take a god to get drunk on power and kill someone.

Shit happens all the time in real life.
>>
You spur Al Gasreed, attempting to get out of the way of those arrows soaring towards you. Getting shot is not on your to-do list today. The fireball you're not too concerned about, you snuff it out with a wave of your hand, water coalescing around it and the whole thing going up in a puff of steam. If this keeps up, you'll almost certainly get the best of this vatis. It won't be quick though.
>Vys Pool: (13/26)

Two of the arrows aimed your way sail past harmlessly. The third, which would have been wildly off course had you not attempted to avoid the arrows, strikes you firmly in the side. For a moment you think you've been wounded, but when you glance down you see no arrow. It struck you, but merely snapped against your armor. You can't help but grin somewhat maniacally at the realization that you're right as rain. Chryssa is less lucky, an arrow strikes her in the back just below the shoulder blade as she's riding away, though she doesn't seem to be paying it any mind.

Profectus is similarly lucky, though he's struck twice, both times in the chest, the arrows merely snap against his armor. Fulvia managed to avoid the arrow shot at her entirely, skillfully maneuvering her guar out of harm's way. They went the opposite direction of you and Chryssa, towards the furthest cliff face, probably attempting to shoot between the two formations of spearmen so he they'll have to split their attentions between you and Chryssa and him and Fulvia.

You gather vys into your palm, flames licking their way down your forearm before you externalize the spell. A fireball larger than your head hovers serenely above your open palm. You can see a wave of apprehension sweep through the spearmen you're charging towards. Some of them are starting to break and scatter to avoid being caught in the inevitably huge blast a fireball that size will result in. Before they get a chance, you lob the roiling ball of flame ahead of you, and it rockets towards the formation of spearmen, or what's left of it.

There's a flash of light, and a wave of intense heat washes over you. For a second you think you might have caught yourself in the blast by accident, but the heatwave passes and you find yourself charging past the smoldering remains of the three spearmen in the center of the formation. One of their compatriots have taken severe burns, and he's essentially out of the fight. The only one to escape largely unscathed is the spearmen who first cut and run, who escaped with only minor burns.
>Vys Pool: (8/26)

{Chryssa, focus on taking out the Vatis.}

You transmit through the communication brooches. She doesn't respond, instead pulling herself up on her guar and drawing her bow. She takes aim at the vatis and looses an arrow. Not a moment later the man falls back clutching his abdomen, and the arrow shaft imbedded there. He's probably not going to put up too terribly much of a fight now, as heavily wounded as he is.

Profectus, for his part, levels his arm at the formation of archers and fires a blast of searing fire straight at them. Immediately, two go down and one is wounded, though judging by the shouted expletives and obvious wooziness of Profectus, he probably shouldn't go casting many more spells unless he wants to spend the rest of the day unconscious.

Fulvia tries the spike trick again, the generator on her back crackling with energy as vys is channeled into a spell. You see the iron spike shoot out of the ground, impaling an archer ahead of you. You'd guess the remaining bandits are about one stiff breeze from routing at this point.

>Enemy Turn
>Enemies Remaining: 5 Archers (1 Heavily Wounded), 4 Spearmen (2 Heavily Wounded, 1 Wounded), 1 Overseer (Heavily Wounded)

With you and Chryssa bearing down on them, their friend screaming bloody murder after being burned by Profectus' blast, and three of their other friends dead, the remaining archers elect to toss their bows to the ground and fall to their knees, hands up in the air. "Okay okay, you win! We surrender!"

The overseer, from his position propped up against the stone wall clutching his side, shouts at the archers. "Gods damn it, you cowards! Keep fighting! They're only four people, how hard can it be to kill four people?!"

The three spearmen still in fighting shape haven't yet surrendered, but they're not moving to attack either. In fact, you'd bet money they're more likely just to run than they are to surrender. This fight seems largely over though, with the majority of the combatants either dead or incapacitated.

You think about it for a moment, you would be perfectly in your right to just kill them all. You wouldn't exactly relish the duty, but these were nothing more than filthy bandits. Each one of them had probably killed or at least wounded an innocent caravaneer or his family in the past. Still, you can't quite bring yourself to just slaughter them all. You'll accept their surrender.

“Spearmen! Lay down your weapons and I will let you live! Try to flee and we will ride you down and end your lives!” The two unharmed spearmen glance at one another, then toss their weapons down. The wounded spearmen throws his weapon to the ground immediately. Fulvia and Profectus rejoin you and the four of you set about corralling the captured bandits in the middle of the pass. You pull a length of rope from your cloak and pass it to Chryssa, who dismounts and begins tying the men's hands together. Eventually your prisoners are all neatly bound and rather helpless. Except, of course, for the rival vatis. He hasn't said anything in a few minutes, he might have bled out.

You dismount Al Gasreed and approach Chryssa, motioning for her to turn around. Once she does, you grab ahold of the arrow and gently pull it free. To her credit, Chryssa doesn't make a peep. Once the arrow is removed you heal the puncture wound with a wave of your hand.
(1/2)
>>
The severely wounded bandits have mostly stopped moaning and screaming. You could certainly still save them, but the fight wore down your vys reserves rather severely and you get the feeling healing all those burns will be significantly harder than just healing a little puncture wound. There might also be wounded hidden within the earthen wall erected around the caravaneer's wagon. Odd that the wall hasn't been lowered yet.

You wander over to the wounded Vatis, crouching down next to him. He looks awfully pale, and his robes are stained red with blood where the spear of ice pierced his shoulder and the arrow planted itself in his gut. Looks like it probably hit his stomach, that's a painful way to go.

He doesn't immediately acknowledge your presence. His breathing is shallow, he's sweating, he looks just terrible. All signs indicate he's a goner. You decide that it would be better to just drain him for all the energy he's got left, then heal his men with the energy you gain. As you place your hand on his shoulder, in your minds eye extending a hollow tendril of vys into the core of his being, he stirs awake. He mumbles something you don't quite catch. Leaning in, he repeats himself.

“Tell... your mother... she was the best lay I ever had.”

Well, you gotta admire the guy's commitment to die as he lived. You connect the tendril of vys to his reserves and quickly drain him dry. He stops breathing just as he's reduced to an energyless husk.
>Vys Pool: (15/26)

The overseer dead, you move on to try and save his men. You start with the most severely burnt, the men who just barely survived that fireball you threw. These two are in really bad shape, but they’ll live. They'll have pretty bad scarring over large portions of their body, sure, but they'll live. After that, you move on to the archer who was clipped by Profectus' blast. His right side is just completely scorched, and you doubt you can actually recover his right arm, it might as well be useless. Still, he'll live. The last wounded bandit is fairly easy. He's got a few burns here and there, some blistering. Nothing too severe.
>Vys Pool (9/26)
(1/2)
>>
>>31483425
I expect the grunt to know how to get back to thier base. and if the force they're on is the main fighting force or not. I doubt bandits could gather in large numbers and a city not deal with it.
>>
You add the healed bandits to the corralled group, Chryssa tying them into the chain. The wall still hasn't lowered though. Maybe they don't know you won? Maybe they think the bandits just ran away? Maybe they think you're going to rob them just like those bandits intended to? Maybe the Vatis that raised those walls is wounded, or unconscious, or even dead?

Soma what was it the book said that caused Vatis to become Vys Vampires again?
>>
>>31483579
using leech too much, it basically said that it can cause a bad habbit, and make you forget how to properly gather vys normally.
>>
>>31483579
It just mentioned that using leech too frequently and not meditating can lead to one relying on leech to recharge vys. Basically forgetting how to gather vys from ambient energy.

This Anon's >>31483599 analogy of a bad habit is appropriate.

You observe the captives. They're weary, scared, a few angry faces here and there, some completely neutral. “Tell me everything you know about your base. Where it is, where the money's kept, typical number of guards left behind during a raid, defenses, traps, anything and everything.” One of them speaks up immediately. “Hani keeps his journal under his mattress. Third one on the left when you enter the barracks.” Another one, you presume to be Hani, speaks up after that. “Damn it, Makram! I'll end you!”

Profectus voice carries clearly through the still evening air, the helmet amplifying his voice. “Both of you idiots shut up. Next man who says anything unrelated to what the boss ask gets run through.” He seems to have gotten his feet under him after looking damn near faint only a few minutes earlier. He draws his falcata from its sheathe on his heap, eying each of the captives from behind the impersonal faceplate of his armor.

The next man who speaks has something a little more valuable to say. “The bosses kept their money in an old iron safe. Don't know the combination, but it had one of those locks you press a necklace into and it opens.” You turn to Chryssa. “Search the bodies of the two overseers, grab anything of value.” She nods, stalking off towards the nearest dead vatis. The one she shot initially at the start of the fight. After patting him down for a few moments she returns with a necklace, similar to the one you saw on Lord Spiros' bedside table, or around Suresh's neck. She also hands you a rather ornate dagger in a style vaguely reminiscent of Rhynian, but clearly updated. You take both, sliding them into your cloak. That alone elicits a gasp or two of surprise.

Next she stalks off to search the vatis you drained, returning after a few moments with some rather gaudy, but obviously nonmagical, jewelry. He also had a coin purse with twenty gold in it. All told, jewelry is probably worth... maybe two hundred silver, if you found a good place to sell it. That's a pretty big if. You send all of it into the depths of your cloak anyway, along with the money.

It isn't long after that another one of the captives speaks up. “Our base is an-” One of the others shushes him, but the two glare at each other and eventually the captive continues. “Our base is in an old silver mine, up in the mountains near the center of the pass. There's usually four or five guys hanging around. There's forty of us in all, or there were forty of us... Guess only sixteen are left after this little botched raid.”

Finally, a third man speaks up. “We don't have any traps or defenses set up. There are a few locked doors but you could bust 'em down no problem. My guess is that, once Baldev figures out the raid went south, he'll clear out the mine and run off into the desert.”

You clap your hands together approvingly. “Great! See? That wasn't so hard. Now, Fulvia, Chryssa. Finish looting the bodies. Profectus, keep an eye on these idiots. We'll-”

You approach the earthen wall, clearing your throat and calling out. “Honored caravaneer! I have dealt with your bandit problem, it is safe to lower the walls!” There's a long pause, and surprisingly a woman's voice calls back. “How do I know this isn't just some trick? For all I know you're just another bandit!” You sigh. You're going to be here a long time if this is how it's going to be. “What would I need to do to prove to you I am not a bandit? Besides risking life and limb to rescue you, of course.”

The woman responds promptly. “Simple. All those men were filthy aghtaki. All you need to do is approach the wall and show one of my men that your cheek is bare.” Uh oh. Well, there goes any sort of payment you could've expected from all this. Unless you can think up a damn good lie, or convince him that the suspicious scar on your cheek doesn't automatically make you a bad person, and that the bandits tied up behind you should be proof of the opposite.

Well, if you're not getting paid after all of this, by the woman you saved at least, might as well have fun at her expense. “I'm not a filthy aghtaki! Rather clean, really.” It takes ta moment before the woman responds. “So, wait, you are a bandit!” You grin. “No, no I'm really not. I'm Master Mikhael Abdul-Hakim, of the Academy of Anthus.” There's another long pause, eventually followed by. “The Academy of Anthus?” She ask hesitantly. What is this woman, deaf? “I'm not going to repeat myself.” You state matter-of-factly.

There is some brief whispering back and forth, and then you hear a man shout. “No!” Before someone shushes him. Eventually, a gap opens in the wall just large enough for someone to peer out of. You spread your cloak wide to display your golden and red robes and artifact armor. The hole in the wall disappears and you hear more whispering, before finally the wall drops.

Inside is not a caravaneer's cart, as you'd expected. Instead is a rather ornate carriage inlaid with gold, silver, and other precious metals. Really, whoever thought riding through a mountain pass in that thing was a good idea should be killed. They were asking to be attacked by bandits. The woman you've presumably been speaking to is dressed in flowing robes, and wears an elaborate head dress. Golden jewelry hangs down from her ears and around her neck. She's at least a vatis, that much you gather. Not yet a master though. “Shahzadi Aqila El-Amin thanks you for your timely rescue, Master Abdul.”

It means he won't be a dick and force us to never spend more than a week in an area.

>>31485417
That isn't turtling, it's just stopping to train and get stronger.

If Soma decides to rail road us out of training, especially with such an unbalanced mission (not that I mind) coming up then he truly is a fucking asshole

“I'm starting to regret rescuing you.” That seems to throw her off, she seems offended. “What in Surya's accursed name is that supposed to mean?” She ask haughtily. “Your brother is a decadent wastrel, as are you judging by the carriage you stand before. Tell me honestly, were you dropped on your head as a child? What made you think riding around in that thing was a good idea?” She looks outright shocked, stunned into blessed silence. Unfortunately her bodyguard is less stunned. “How dare you speak to a member of the royal family that way, aghtak scum?! I should cut you down where you stand for insulting the Shahzadi!”

You smirk. “What makes you think you'd be any more capable of killing me than the bandits who, not moments before I arrived, had slaughtered your men and trapped you behind an earthen wall? My companions and I reduced half of them to ash in but a few moments-” You gesture behind yourself, to the field of corpses. “-you lost the vast majority of your underlings while dealing few losses.”

You don't think you've ever seen a samja turn that shade of red, the poor man looks moments away from an aneurysm. He's about to open his mouth to say something when the Shahzadi cuts in. “What gives you the right to speak to me in such a way? My brother may enjoy the finer things but he is no 'decadent wastrel', and unlike here the roads in Pidjata are safe for a woman to travel upon, without fear of being ambushed by bandits.” You wave your hand dismissively. “What gives me the right? You have no power over me. I've been banished, remember? You may as well be any other especially wealthy noble. What are you even doing this far north in the first place? Should you not be frolicking freely in the Gardens of El-Amin, starving the farmers of their water allotment just so you may enjoy exotic scenery?”

Again, this is what the majority votes, deal with it.

She pulls herself up to her full height, she stands only an inch or so shorter than you. “I'll have you know, I'm scheduled to enroll in the Academy of Anthus as a student. I intend to attain my Masters robes, and I shall not put up with the lecherous advances of every crazy old man in El-Amin.”

“Give the Archmagos my regards, when you see him. Tell him Mikhael hopes he's happy with the services rendered. All that aside, I did not call out just so I may insult you. I was hoping to turn over the custody of the bandits I captured to you and your guards.” You gesture to the chain of tied up bandits. “For a nominal fee, of course.” The Shahzadi rolls her eyes. “Of course. How much per head?”

>Ask an average price for a unskilled slave, 10 gold per head.
>She probably doesn't even know how much gold is worth, ask 20 gold per head.
>Ask for outright extortionist rates, 50 gold per head. Not like she's really in any position to barter.

(Apologies for the delay, roommate is drunk off his ass and needed assistance. Scanning through the thread for questions that need answering and I missed)
>>
I can't deal with all this fucking autism.

Someone mentioned us in the qtg again huh?
>>
>>31485278
If he said it link me to the post in the archives. It has to be Soma saying it directly, not Mikhail.

>>31485240
as if there aren't going to be exceptions made for royalty. seriously? you guys would probably vote to kill a guy, not just banish him, if they slandered you and you were in a position to do either.
>>
>>31485495
>Ask for outright extortionist rates, 50 gold per head. Not like she's really in any position to barter.
She was a cunt.
>>
>>31485474
>It means he won't be a dick and force us to never spend more than a week in an area.
Are you a retard and didn't read what Soma said or just delusional? The QM is doing it to keep the quest focused on adventuring, which is what the whole quest is about.
>>
>>31485495
>Ask an average price for a unskilled slave, 10 gold per head.
>>
>>31485430

Not him, but why do you want to stay at the temple? Lets go check the place, loot it of its abandon, find something that might help us get to grand master faster and move on to the next adventure. We can train and meditate on move without problems.
>>
>>31485508
>people who don't conform to your hugbox
>autists

Stop pretending you didn't come here from the qtg. You are the very definition of a resident.

Can you end this argument please Soma? It doesn't matter if i am right or wrong anymore
>>
>>31485490
Too bad this isn't actually a democracy faggot. The QM gives us things to vote on, but he'll force us out to continue adventuring and what have you.
Majority means jack shit when it comes to just refusing to allow us to settle down.
>>
Thread is gonna die soon.
>>

fucking namefags man
>>

The QM isnt a railroad piece of shit, soma seems like a cool guy, he even let us do our stupid tabletop jewerism I'm sure if we wanted to settle down he would let us.

>Warlord who's gem you need to acquire being a multiple Grandmaster.
Maybe, maybe not. Sadik just said magically powerful, never mentioned how powerful.

>90s Training Montage to get stronger at the Water Temple.
It's not just going to be a month long time skip. The path to Grandmaster is not an easy one. Even if you intend to just train in the water temple until you hit Grandmaster, assuming anyone is even in the Water Temple, you'll need to travel Pidjata in search of that one revelation you need to hit Grandmaster.

It would be more like joining an Adventurer's Guild on a temporary basis and going out and diving ruins for the good of the Temple, in exchange for training and clues and possibly artifacts.

If I missed something that someone wants addressed, mention it.
>>
>>31485525
I'm saying he won't be a dick about it.

A thread or two of chilling and training will be fine, we've been planning that for awhile and he never said anything.

>>31485530
So that we can power through grandmaster and learn all our effects and metas and get the basics of Nature and Metal all quickly, like a couple threads at most instead of dragging it out over 15 threads, it'll just give us time to focus on getting stronger for a little bit.
>>
>>31485577
I swear its just you who wants to settle down.

"Lecherous advances!? Don't flatter yourself, a guar is more pleasant to the eyes and ears than your person."

Namefags are the worst. You can tell he's new here, probably immigrated from some shit forum.

They aren't necessarily untrained, but it would be against our principles to give her a good price.

I swear, they are all the exact same type of autistic. It's probably that condition which drives them to namefag in the first place.

That didn't answer the question at all.

Would you be okay with us chilling ominous a single area and powering through a whole bunch of training, like our effects and maybe Nature and Metal?
>>
>>31485617
I have read the archives, you fuck off stupid cunt.
>>
>>31485591
No one wants to settle down but that one guy from the beginning of the thread, and I think he left. No one is currently suggesting settling down.
>>
>>31485656
No last thread there was a guy talking about settling down as well and how it sucked that we left the abandoned facility.
>>
>>31485640
Yeah, it would be fine to focus on reading all the books in your inventory, learning all the effects that you can, and mastering all of your metamagic. That wouldn't take a month though. Probably a few weeks. I'd also include some sort of interesting event(s) just so it's not five threads of me infodumping with no interaction.

Working through your backlog is fine, I'd only really get annoyed if it was nothing but meditation, over and over again, until you succeeded.
>>
>>31485640
In a single area

>>31485665
Well no one is saying that now.
>>
>>31485670
And the argument is settled, you can all go fuck yourselves.

Good night Soma, thanks for running, I'm going to sleep.
>>
>>31485670
It would probably be Read then Meditate again and again, interspersed with some H2H with Chryssa to stay in shape, learning from Fulvia, and teaching both Chryssa and Profectus.
