Welcome to Medievalmon quest!

The world you live in is inhabited by strange and mysterious beings, collectively referred to as monsters. Some are used as beasts of burden, many are dangerous predators, and others are trained to fight alongside their masters in battle. In the legends it is said that the Lord Arceus created all life in the world, including monsters and humans. Despite this, there are many monsters that mankind has never seen, and not much is known about many of those already discovered.

You are the child and heir to Robert Millener, a well known merchant. You live with him and your mother Amanda in the port town of Coumarine.

One question remains, are you a boy, or a girl?

You are a boy of 15 years. Most of your life has been spent learning your father’s trade, leaving you with the ability to read, write, and calculate large sums of money. While your family does possess a number of monsters, most of them are temporary trade assets. The exception is a feline monster your father keeps as a pet.

Recently, your family received word concerning your uncle, Arthur Millener. Your uncle was the captain of one of your father’s trading vessels, which had become lost at sea. According to your uncle’s last will and testament, your family received a sizable portion of his savings. He also left specifically left you a letter, packaged with a…

You open the letter addressed to you first, hoping it will explain things further.

“Hello. I trust you’re doing well. If you’re reading this, that probably means I’m dead. There’s no need to get broken up over it or anything. I just want to make sure you can take care of yourself. I noticed some signs a while back. Nothing major, but I think you've got a fairly unique skill. You can take that sealed letter to some friends of mine and they should help you out. Be sure not to get in too much trouble though, or else you might end up like me!

Best Regards, Uncle Arthur”

The letter mentions the ability in particular, which seems to be:
>Aura abilities
>Psychic abilities
>Spirit channeling

Also, feel free to suggest a name.

>>31371016
hmm, can we have a bit more details first?
>>
Alright, so since there have been some requests for more details. I'll go into some specifics.

Aura is aura, the essence of life and all that. Most abilities relate to sensing or manipulating lifeforce.

Psychic powers are primarily telepathic, but also involve low level telekinesis.

Spirit channeling relates to ghost types, and is pretty much the only way to have a ghost type pokemon at this point in time.

Also, note that these abilities may improve later on, but you will be a beginner, so you'll start small.

>>31371121
I am aware. It's just tricky to find good medieval pokemon artwork
>>
>>31371199
change my vote to Spirit Channeling
>>
>>31371199
Just to quickly clarify on spirit channeling, the reason you would not be able to get a ghost otherwise is due to how pokemon are typically tamed.

If you want a charmander, you go find a wild charmander, hope it doesn't kill you, and give it food, and hope that works.

Since ghost types either don't eat or feed off of emotions, you need the spirit connection in order to see or control them.

After receiving permission from your father, you journeyed to the Tower of Mastery to the east. You had always heard tales about how the monks there were capable of many superhuman feats. You never imagined that you also had the potential for such things, but your uncle seemed to believe you did.

As you climb the final few steps, you enter the structure, gazing up towards the incredibly high ceilings. You also notice a large statue of some sort of monster in the center of the tower.

“Greetings. I am Guardian Dale How may I help you, my son?”

You level your head to find an old man with a warm smile upon his face. You find it strange that you didn’t notice him before, as now his presence seems almost overbearing.

“Be at ease, and speak.”

You clear your throat as you pull out the sealed letter.

“My name is Ceil Millener. My uncle recently passed away, though he left me a letter saying I should come here to train. The letter also said I should give you this.”

You hand the letter over. After breaking the seal, the man spends a full minute carefully reading it over. Halfway through, he suddenly speaks to you.

“Tell me. Have you noticed anything peculiar about yourself? Something that sets you apart from most others?”
Well, maybe…

>You’ve always been fairly good at picking up when people are lying.

“I see. So that’s what he meant,” Dale replies before continuing the letter. After a few more moments, he looks back to you.

“Based on Arthur’s recommendation and what you’ve told me, it is quite likely that you indeed possess some latent ability to use aura.”

You give the guardian a slightly puzzled look before he continues.

“I should explain. Aura is, at the simplest level, the essence of every living creature. It can be found everywhere, but it goes unnoticed to most. You have tapped into it, unconsciously using it. It is your limited ability to see auras which allows you to visualize a location while your normal vision fails you. According to this letter, it was your uncle’s wish that you learn to master your abilities and become a true aura guardian, but before I can teach you, I must ask you one thing. I will teach you, whatever your answer, but you must have conviction.”

The old man stares at you intensely. You give a nod of affirmation before he speaks.

“Why do you desire this power?”

"To help those in need," you reply.

"Hmm...yes, I sense there are a great many people who care about you, as you care for them."

Dale begins to walk towards the spiral walkway leading up through the tower. You move to follow but he raises a hand to stop you.

"I am going in order to find a monster whose aura wavelength is similar to your own. Remain here and meditate if you wish."

You nod, and sit on the ground. Closing your eyes, you think about why you're doing all this. You haven't been able to see your friends or family in a week. If he's going to give you a monster of your own, it may just be worth it though.

The minutes pass slowly, and you wonder when the guardian is going to get back.

"I have returned."

Your eyes snap open as you look upward, Dale standing above you. Then your eyes move to the small pair of paws grasping to Dale's shoulder. Peering over it is a strange, blue and black fox monster with piercing red eyes. It hops to the ground and begins sniffing you inquisitively.

>Give a nickname to your new partner?
"The ability to aid, and the strength to ensure it is kept. I believe the two of you shall make a good match. Now, we shall being the first stage of your training."

The next few days are constant practice. Mainly learning how to see the aura of other creatures, even when blindfolded. Eventually, you move on to manipulating aura. Specifically, transferring your aura to another creature. Both you and your partner pick up the basics fairly quickly.

>Skill learned: Minor Aura Healing

However, the next day, Dale informs you that in order to progress further, you must begin a pilgrimage in order to see more of the world. While he could teach you more lessons within this tower, the progress would be much slower.

As such, you thank him for his training and travel home.

You resolve to call your partner Riolu, what Dale told you the monster was called.

You opt to head straight home, taking the side streets to avoid getting stuck in any crowds.

After giving a quick knock on the front door, you head in. You head in and find your parents sitting around drinking tea. Your attempt to say hello is interrupted by your mother, who somehow already crossed the room to give you a hug before you could react.

"Ciel! Oh, the house has not been the same since you left. Have you been eating properly? You're not hurt are you?"

Before you can get a word in, your father speaks up.

"Well aren't you cute," your mother says while patting the creature on its head. Riolu closes his eyes and begins sniffing her hand in response.

"So I see you finally got a monster," your father begins as he sizes up the small canine, "I can't say I've seen one like this before. Does he have a name?"

"Riolu," you respond, "I was told it was fairly rare."

"Actually, there's something else I need to mention first," you begin, setting Riolu on the floor.

"I'm supposed to continue my training by taking this guy on a pilgrimage of sorts. Dale, my teacher, told me it'd be easier to learn out in the real world instead of a tower."

Your mother leans over and starts playing with Riolu, as your father ponders your words.

"Well son, if traveling is something you feel you need to do, I'm sure I can arrange something. There's always a shipment somewhere that needs overseeing. However, I don't think there's a need to rush this. You just got back home after all. Maybe spend some time making sure you get everything together before you go."

You give your father a nod, gather your partner, and consider what to do next.

"I think I'll head over to Jean's. Better safe then sorry."

"Alright," your father responds, "I'll see if I can find a good shipment for you to oversee."

Heading out of the house, you circle around the market district until you see a familiar column of smoke rising from a solid brick building. Luke Smith, Jean's father, had known yours for a long time, and the two had done many trades involving weapons and armor.

Heading in the door, you hear the familiar clang of hammer on metal. Looking to the counter, you spy Jean polishing a buckler, his faithful Growlithe resting on the floor nearby.

"Well if it isn't Cein," Jean says with a smirk as he walks over for a handshake, "I was wondering when you'd be back from your secret training!"

"Actually, I'm preparing to do some traveling in order to continue it. I'm bringing this guy along with me," you reply as you point to the Riolu in your rucksack, "But I was thinking of getting a weapon."

"Let's go for the best. I don't want it breaking on me early."

"I ought to deck you for insulting my family's steel," Jean says with a grin, "But I'll let it slide just this once. now, let's go take a look, shall we?"

You follow him towards the back of the shop, where weapons of all kinds line the walls. The heat in the room is a bit stifling, and you let Riolu out of your bag to make sure he doesn't get too hot.

Jean takes you over to a table next to some wooden poles, and opens a box resting upon it. Inside are two types of blades shaped for use on a glaive. One is pure red, with a long curved edge. The other has a normal looking edge, but the side away from the blade is yellow, and the entire thing is a bit shorter in length.

"The red one was from the shed feathers of one of those crazy metal birds. You know the ones? The other is a bit harder to come by, since most people rarely go after them. As I heard it, it's from sort of armoured metal demon with blades on it's head and arms."

You look over the two blades. The yellow one seems a bit stouter, and though the red seems thin, it also looks highly resilient. Riolu begins to tug on your leg, curious as to what you're looking at.

"So what'll be?"

>I'll take the red blade
>I'll take the yellow blade

Here's what we do -- we pick up the two, go to an empty room, and place them there, equally far from the door. Then, we put Riolu in the room and see which he goes to. We choose that one.

You're not to sure which of these blades is better, but you have an idea. You pick Riolu of the ground and set him on the table. Jean looks curious as to what you're doing, but doesn't raise an objection. You watch as Riolu moves over to the box, closing his eyes. You see him visibly tense up while looking at the yellow blade, as though there was something he disliked about it.

You realize he's sensing the aura of the two objects, and take the opportunity to try to look at them yourself. You also get somewhat of a bad vibe from the yellow blade, while the weighs much lighter upon your mind.

"Um, I'm not sure what you're doing exactly, but did you figure out which one you wanted?"

>Go with the red blade. You don't like that yellow one.

If it's giving both Riolu and us bad vibes, this seems like the logical choice. Besides, red's a better color anyway.

"I'm gonna go with the red one," you reply.

Jean shrugs and gingerly lifts the blade from the box, closing it carefully. You and Riolu both relax as the yellow blade is out of your sight.

"We just need to do a few quick measurements, then I'll get this fitted for you. It should be ready for pickup sometime tomorrow."

After getting through with the measurements and covering your payment, you pick up Riolu and decide where to go next.

You decide to head to the market. It's still not too late in the day, so there should be plenty of things left in stock. After you arrive, you quickly get the essentials out of the way: rations, a waterskin, rope, flint, a bedroll traveling clothes, and a sturdy cloak. You manage to get a pretty good deal on most of it.

You got most of the stuff you could think of off the top of your head. You could always try looking around for more stuff though.

You decide to check through the produce stands for berries. You start by purchasing some Oran berries, since they're somewhat less pricey. You've heard Pecha berries are an excellent anti-toxin, so you by a few of those as well.

You notice Riolu sniffing around a stall nearby. You look and discover he's interested in Rawst berries. The vendor informs you that they are good at soothing the pain and speeding up the healing of burns. You're not sure if how many fires you would be running into, but you buy a few just in case. Even if you didn't need them, Riolu seemed like he'd enjoy them as a snack.

You place the berries in a bag, on the opposite side of your person from Riolu, just in case he decided to snack.

You still have quite a bit of funds left, do you want to look at anything else?

You decide to stop by a small herbal medicine shop you know of. You remember going there once when your father's pet took ill.

Most of the things here are rather expensive, and from what you remember of Meowth's reaction, they all taste terrible. Still, they were very strong when you needed them.

You decide to purchase a small pouch of energy powder. While it might be a bit more than necessary in most situations, it could come in handy one day.

Riolu sniffs at the small bag before you put it away. He backs away in disdain, the herbs apparently smelling too bitter for even him.

You decide you want to try and find out what sort of wares could draw such a large crowd. With some careful maneuvering you work your way towards the front of the crowd. When you arrive, you see what looks to be a stand with some odd looking fruits. You spot red, yellow, green, and even a few blue ones towards the middle.

Standing in front of the stall is a man with a small brown bird monster. It seems rather uninterested in what's going on. The vendor seems to be holding one of the green fruits in his hand.

"Come and see," the man shouts over the noise of the crowd, "The mysterious fruit that can cause a monster to disappear and reappear in the blink of an eye."

Resting the bird on his shoulder, he removes the stem from the fruit he is holding. You note the one in his hand seems to have been carved into in some way. He points the fruit towards the bird, which seems to almost get sucked into the core of the fruit in a bright flash of light. He quickly places the stem back onto the fruit, leaving the bird inside.

"These mysterious fruits come from a far distant land in the Orient. While not capable of such a feat in their normal state, a bit of work by our master craftsmen is all it takes for such wonders!"

As he continues his speech, he flips the stem off the ball, the bird once again appearing in a bright flash of light.

"This stock will not last forever! Who wishes to place an order?"

>Order one of the fruits
>Keep your money. It's probably a scam.

>>
>>31376602

>>
You walk away, not giving the display a second glance. It's probably just some other monster behind the stall causing those bright flashes of light.

Even if it did work, it wouldn't sit well with you to stuff Riolu into some weird fruit.

However, as it's getting late in the day, you decide to head home for the evening. You have an enjoyable dinner with you family, giving them a few more details on what sort of things your training involved. After that, you decide head off to sleep, Riolu by your side.

And that ends the first session of Medievalmon quest. My twitter is here: https://twitter.com/QM_Medievalmon for those interested in future threads.

Well then, let's just hope we run into one of the less malicious Legendaries, like Celebi, or Shaymin, or Meloetta.

Generally, the cuter a Legendary is, the less likely it is to attack you on sight or just generally fuck you up.

>>31377012
Well, now I regret doing that.
