>Holy cow am I late Edition

You awake to find Charme's armed wrapping you in a loose embrace, a small smile curling the corners of her lips. Her breathing rolls over your cheek in a gentle purr, her forehead gently nuzzling your hair. Dawn sunlight is streaming in through the bedroom window you forgot to close before falling asleep. Tear and Louie are still fast asleep, so you can probably get away with staying like this for another hour or so.

>You can stay here a little longer. Wait until everyone else wakes up.
>It's a new day, you should start bright and early! Try not to wake Charme up though.
>Time to get up. And to get this raging lesbian off you.

Dawn is far too early for any reasonable person to be awake. You can't even tell what woke you up at all. You let your eyelids pull themselves shut.

When you open them again, Tear appears to be lining up a kick to your face. "Wake up Recette!" You pull your face back just in time to avoid the tiny boot, instead falling backwards out of bed, landing with a heavy thud.
"Ah, you're awake?" Tear asks in a casual tone, as if she hadn't just been trying to bludgeon you. "Fantastic, perhaps we may start our day early for once." You take a moment to glance around the room before responding. Louie is in the corner, pulling his clothes and sword-belt on, Tear stands on your pillow, already fully dressed. You're still in your clothes from yesterday. Charme isn't present.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

On an off-note, how big is Tear (or fairies in general?) anyway? Ingame representation seemed to vary a lot, so I have no idea just how dangerous her boots actually are.

>It's a new day, you should start bright and early! Try not to wake Charme up though.

New day, shit to do, things to sell and debts to pay. We're a "professional" peddler now, we may as well act like it.

I saw a picture of the OST cover has her depicted as pretty small. She could probably fit into a teacup if she curled into a ball tightly enough.

Although from the game sprites, she appears to be about as big as Recette's head.

"...hey Tear, where's Charme?"

"Hmm?" Tear raises an eyebrow. "I wouldn't know. She wasn't here when I awoke. Presumably she fled like a thief in the night. Not surprisingly, considering she is one." The disdain in her voice is clear, but you decide not to press the topic.

"Oh. Okay. Well, how about we get some breakfast then?"

"A sound plan."

The three of you head downstairs to the kitchen, and you begin cooking up a hearty meal for everyone. As you start to serve out the first helping, you direct a question to Tear. "So what should we do today? Open the store again?"

"Hmm, perhaps. Although we still have a list of items to acquire for that young mage boy. And our stock of valuable treasures isn't exactly overflowing. Perhaps we should spend today on another dungeon craw- I mean, adventure."
Louie sighs, but adds no further input. "We could also try to acquire certain items from the other merchants and traders around the city. Who knows what they may have gotten their hands on? Alternatively, we could simply open shop again and let the customers know we're a consistent business."

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

Not precisely free, there's the opportunity cost of whatever other dosh-acquiring scheme we could enact, or the money we could make from opening the store during that period.

That said, it's early in the day and our supplies are low, we may as well go on a dungeon crawl.
>>
>>31367090
>Perhaps the market will have something interesting.

It's early, so a lot of people will be going to work; not many potential buyers. But if we go to the stalls early, we might be able to grab some good stock.

Might we also want to consider getting Louie a legit adventurer license with the Guild? It might make him less utterly dependent on us, but getting legit goods to sell might prevent or delay investigations. Plus, it might result in gaining some goodwill from Louoe.

You pull the empty plates together and stack them in the sink, before turning to the table. "Okay, let's go Adventuring today!" Louie groans, head meeting wooden table as he slumps forward in despair. Tear nods approvingly.

You lock the shop and start walking down the road towards the back door behind the Adventurer's Guild. Tear floats along beside you, Louie trails a few paces behind, desperately trying to catch you with his pleas.
"...It's not all that much, and then I'd have an invulnerability field too! You're not broke anymore, so you can afford one, right? So we can go legally and you won't have to worry about hiding your loot!"

>Tell Louie to be quiet and suck it up.

>Consider the option of going legal.

You stop in your tracks, suddenly enough that Louie walks into you. You stare at him seriously over your shoulder, "if we go to the Guild, they'll charge us just to get in there, take all our magical loot, tax us on whatever we do bring through, then make us register each piece as we sell it on. Do you want to have to put up with all that?" He wavers slightly under your stare. You switch back to your usual beaming smile, "tell you what, make it through this and we'll see about getting you a real bed at home. And then we can talk about going to the Guild after that."

"R-right. Thanks, Recette. You're the best," he smiles back.

A few minutes later, you find yourself at the back door to the disused warehouse behind the Adventurer's Guild. Tear knocks, and the door is unlocked for you.

Once more, you have the choice of your destination.

Well, you went for the ruins last time, so perhaps you should try the dungeons this time? They sound like they could be exciting!

Tear passes the request to Jonathon, who once again does something to the doorknob from the inside, before the door swings open, revealing a long, dark passageway completely unlit stretching out before you. The three of you cross the threshold. As soon as you pass fully into the passage, the doorway behind you is sharply cut from reality, leaving you in total darkness.

"H-hey Tear?" You whisper quietly into the darkness. "Do you have a light?"

"No. Why would I have a light?" she snaps her response. "You mean you don't?"

Louie's voice from ahead. "Neither of you thought to bring a light?" His incredulous voice echoes around you, dying off into the distance as neither of you deem to answer. "How are we supposed to find loot if we can't even see?"

A sigh emits from beside you. You squeal and fall back away from the new presence, before the area is lit by a brilliant white light. "I suppose I shall lend you my assistance, if I must."
Your eyes take a moment to adjust to the light. As the stranger comes into focus, you blink a few times to check what you're seeing is real.

Caillou, the mage boy, stands before you holding his staff above you, a white glow emanating from its tip. His expression of bored disinterest is almost no different to the one he had when placing the order with you. "I'm going this way," he gestures down one of the passages lined with cells of rusty iron. "I have a few items to collect before I head back to the city. Stay close and I can keep you safe."

Well, going with him would be a pretty safe option. But then you probably won't be able to get as much loot as you were hoping for if he heads back to the city soon.

There's safety in numbers. Lots of exotic bits of magic in dungeons, plus if we come across any of those items you need, you can accurately judge if it's of good quality or not. Plus, you can point us in the right direction of said items.

I mean, if you have urgent business in town, that's cool. But it could save you a bit of time/money if we team up.

He begins to walk away down the passage, taking his light with him. "W-wait up! We're coming too!" You scurry a few paces to catch them, then slow to keep pace beside him. You walk in silence for a few moments, before a horrifying beast erupts from one of the jail cells to your left. Without batting an eyelid, Caillou extends his arm to point his staff across you, and the ravening beast erupts into a plume of green flame. Its death cries are still echoing from the walls when he directs a question at you.

"So how did you get in here? I've never heard of a party entering a living dungeon without the minimum required safety gear the Adventurer's Guild provides; nor of the party arriving in the very center of the dungeon."

>How do you respond?
>>
>>31380078

I kinda want to defer to Tear for this, as she'd probably know a good and reasonable-sounding legal explanation for this.

But I guess that we can say that we entered through an unsecured entrance and decided to try our luck.
>>

Trade secret. If I told you, what would you need us for?
>>
>>31380078
You hesitate to answer, looking to Tear. She picks up on your worried expression (as does Caillou) and answers for you. "Mr. Caillou, as one who is seeking magical artifacts- ones that are not just restricted, but outright contraband- I'm sure you won't be offended if I were to tell you that there are certain methods of procurement that are best left undescribed to the customer." A small smirk stretches Caillou's features.

"Well said, Miss Tear. I respect a woman who knows the value of trade secrets. Very well, I shall inquire no further." Without warning, an arrow flies out of the darkness. A bare flick of his wrist sends the arrow tumbling away, and another swish of the staff causes a pained gasp and a light pop from the shadows.

As Caillou continues striding unconcerned along the passageway, Louie nudges you from behind. "Hey, Recette? Have you seen these rooms? We're skipping a whole lot of loot." You look to the rooms you're passing and, indeed, almost every room contains a treasure chest of some kind. Caillou is steadily marching past them all.

>Ask him to slow down so you can loot?
>Try to loot quickly, keeping pace with Caillou?
>Go for the loot, ignore Caillou?

>>
>>31380849
Ask him to slow down so you can loot. Thanks to our highly embarrassing miscommunication, we are unfortunately dependent on his aid to make this excursion profitable. If he were inclined to do so, we could return the favor by discretely letting him know about future acquisitions of 'special' items, effectively giving him first pick over the regular customers.
>>
>>31380849
>>Go for the loot, ignore Caillou?
Tell him our eyes have adjusted to the darkness(hopefully), and set off.
>>
>>31380849
"Hey Caillou, can you slow down please?" You try to keep your tone from begging. "We sort of really wanted to loot this place clean."

He stops in his tracks. "Eh? Why should I slow down for you?"

You counter, "well, we're here just to find the stuff you wanted, so if you don't you'll just have to wait longer for it in the end."

"Ughn. If that is the case, why should I let you loot at all?"

Tear chimes in with a timely injection of logic, "Mr. Caillou, surely a man such as yourself could see the benefit of being owed a favor by the only item store owner in Pensee who is currently actively smuggling magical artifacts into the city?"

"Hm," he considers for a long moment, "when you put it that way, I suppose I have the time to spare. In return for the favor, of course."

"Of course," Tear nods with a smile. "And as a personal friend of the owner, I'm sure we can arrange for you to be notified of any interesting acquisitions in the future."

Caillou's posture alters a little, as if he were now more alert. "Alright, I'm persuaded. Hurry up and take what you're here for."

You move up to the first room and peek inside. A small room off the main passage, the four stone walls glisten with moist. A single treasure chest stands in the center of the room. It looks mostly clear, though when you ask Caillou, he sighs and shakes his head. Louie steps to the front, shield at the ready, and steps over the threshold. Almost immediately, a trio of long, ropey green tentacles shoot out from the side behind Louie. You call a warning, and he spins to ward off the attack. Two of the tentacles slap against his shield, though one snakes its way under his guard to jab into his gut. He yelps in pain, but sweeps down with his sword, severing the limb.

As he readies himself for another attack, you see the orange, shapeless body slide its way off the wall, preparing to hit Louie again.

"Don't let it hit you, Louie!" You shout your advice to him from the doorway.

"Kind of the idea," he retorts, throwing himself to one side as the tentacle monster rushes him. The moment it passes, he lashes out with his sword once more, severing another tentacle. Before the limb has even hit the ground, the thing responds by twisting into a spin, the remaining two tentacles whirling out to hit him. He ducks back just in time, one of the ropey limbs passing a hair's breadth from his face.

He recovers quickly, gaining a little distance as the thing spins towards him. Inverting his blade, he holds the sword ahead of him, point down in a defensive posture. Almost simultaneously, the two tentacles meet the blade, severing themselves as he holds his guard. In the heartbeat the thing becomes defenseless, he lunges forward, sword-point burying itself deep into the gooey flesh. It ceases movement as soon as he does, and collapses into a mess on the floor.

"Well done, Louie," you call over your shoulder as you rush forward to open the chest, quickly filling your pockets with the loot inside. "Now, onto the next room!"

You call Louie back, and give quiet thanks to Caillou before moving swiftly to the next room along. This one is a jail cell, with two treasure chests beside each other. Caillou simply shrugs, so Louie steps through the bars. As soon as he's past the gate, it slams shut, locking him inside.

With a nervous gulp, he takes another step towards the chests. "H-hey, Recette? These chests have symbols on them." Louie looks up at you, "one of them looks like a tornado, the other one is a pile of gold."

Tear's face creases into a thoughtful frown, before she says "it sound like a puzzle clue as to what is inside. One is a trap, the other is the treasure?"

>Well then obviously we want the gold!

You pause for a moment to think of the possibilities, then call your decision. "Go for the gold, Louie!"

"Wait," Tear catches you, "surely this is a trick? The gold would not be labelled gold."

"It's a dungeon," you point out, "how would it know to trick us?" Tear looks unconvinced. "Besides, even if it was a trick, surely the dungeon would know we would know it was a trick, so it would double-bluff us and the gold would be the gold. Unless of course, it knew we would know it's a double bluff, but then that just makes things silly, because it will just keep stacking. Everyone know's the simplest answer is always the right one, so the gold must be in the one labelled gold." Tear no longer looks unconvinced. She looks confused instead. Louie takes her moment's hesitation to open the chest without protest.

Nothing happens. It's just a regular chest, filled with valuable loot. You let out a cheer as he takes some magical trinkets from the chest and the gate swings itself open.

The next room along is clear, and simply contains an unguarded chest. You loot in clean and move on.

By this point, your pockets are beginning to overflow with loot. Anything new you pick up would have to replace items you've already looted.

>Keep looting! You might find more valuable loot.
>You've got your fill, time to head home. The faster you get back, the faster you can sell your loot!

You tell Caillou that you're all looted out, and he resumes his previous pace, advancing without pause through the dank dungeon as if he already had the place mapped out in his head. As you travel deeper into the dungeon, the stone walls give way to rock walls which in turn lead to rock tunnels. Monsters continue to appear every so often, though they are immediately dealt with by Caillou in an offhand manner. He continues leading the way, ignoring every side passage and treasure chest, mind set on his goal.

Eventually, the tunnels give way to a spacious cavern. At the far end of the room, you can see one final, large treasure chest sat next to a red doorframe standing unsupported in the room. "Ah," Tear intones, "the Go-Home doo- I mean, the portal of return." She begins to flutter forward, but Caillou holds a hand out to stop her.

"First, I must defeat that," he says, gesturing to a gigantic sleeping mouse wearing shorts in the corner of the cavern.

"That thing looks huge! Would you... like some help with it, Caillou?"

He snorts derisively at you, "please. I can handle it perfectly fine without you."

"Oh. Okay then."

He takes a few paces forwards, then charges up a large magical attack on the sleeping beast. With a loud "HYAA!", he casts a huge ball of blue energy. It hits the beast but other than waking it up, appears to do nothing. Slowly, it lifts its head, looking dazedly about the room before clocking your presence and leading to its feet, pulling what looks to be a gigantic crowbar from the floor beside it.

As the beast lets out a deafening roar, you're suddenly overcome with a strange tingly sensation. Ghost writing appears, floating in space before you, while a heavy electro track starts playing from somewhere in the cave above you.

[~MOUSE WITH A GRUDGE~]

A pause from Caillou. "On second thoughts, perhaps your swordsman might feel left out, alone back there. Care to join me, mister..?"

"Louie," he responds quickly, nodding his enthusiasm "let's do this!"

The mouse finishes preparing itself for battle, lowers its head and charges at you.

>Think up a strategy to help them!

I'd like to meta but...

Freeze the mouse so we can hit him or heat up the crowbar so he drops it.
>>
>>31383002
louie fights the rat while caillou uses buff spells on us and/or debuffs on the rat
>>
>>31383002
Louie, hit it with your sword!
Caillou, use your magic to win!
>>
>>31383002
Louie blitzes forwards to meet the over-sized rodent. Apparently not expecting this, the beast quickly tries to change its momentum, only to lose its footing and slide heavily. Louie dodges quickly under the flailing crowbar, almost twice his own height, dragging his sword across the mouse's exposed belly. The blades comes away clean. Drisby growls at Louie, swinging the crowbar back again. The crowbar takes Louie hard in the chest and he's bodily hurled several yards across the cavern to land against the far wall.

Drisby heaves himself back to his feet before rushing the prone Louie, pulling the crowbar up to finish him off. "CAILLOU, THE CROWBAR! HEAT IT UP!"
Caillou reacts to your instruction instantly, hurling a fireball at the beast about to murder your friend and employee. It strikes true, engulfing the crowbar in bright flames and turning the metal red hot. With a deafening squeal, the gigantic mouse lets go of the crowbar, taking a few steps back while nursing its scalded hand.

Louie takes the opportunity to push himself back to his feet.

One hits form the left, and the other the right. The boss can only concentrate on one guy.

"Go for the eyes, Louie, the eyes!" Louie takes a running start as the mouse starts to recover, looking up just in time to see Louie flying towards his face. Even jumping, Louie isn't quite high enough to reach the beast's face, but the extra length of his knight's sword makes up the difference, scraping across Drisby's left eye as he falls into him. Drisby lets out another scream before grabbing hold of Louie with both hands. Opening his maw wide, he lifts Louie forward, ready to bite his head off. Caillou gets another saving blast of magic out though, hitting the giant mouse right in the mouth with his second blast of energy.

The mouse coughs and splutters, reaching a hand up to swipe at his mouth. Louie uses the moment's distraction to bring his sword down and slice several fingers from the giant's hand. Louie is still falling to the floor when Drisby retaliates with an unaimed backhand. It catches him in the face, throwing him clear of the mouse.

>Have Caillou hit the mouse with everything he's got.
>Have Caillou cover Louie until he can get back up.

As soon as Louie finishes rolling clear, Caillou unleashes the blast he's been charging up. His entire mana reserve is pumped into one gigantic attack which takes the mouse full in the face. Drisby has just enough time to squeak in terror before the ball of energy explodes in his face, hurling the monster across the cavern to crack head-first into the wall.

As the beast tumbles to the ground, Caillou is already striding across the room to it. He bends down and rifles through the giant pockets while you help Louie back to his feet. After a few moments, Caillou stands up with an "aha!", holding up a charred lizard on a stick.

Tear stares at the mage boy in disbelief. "You mean you fought that monster so you could sneak his SNACKS?"

Caillou shrugs the question off. "This is an important alchemical ingredient. Now, if you'll excuse me, I shall be returning home now." Without another word, he opens the lone-standing red door and steps through the portal.

You sigh, before distracting yourself with opening the giant treasure chest Caillou left completely untouched.

What you find inside almost blows your adorable mind.

And we're now up to where I wanted to be last night, so that's it for this week folks.
Thanks for the thread, and sorry for the slow update times/delays.

Hopefully next week will be easier on me.

As always, thread is free for use and I'll be about for Q&A if I'm wanted.
>>
>>31383468
What's our inventory space, anyway? I remember it was based on merchant level, but Recette already has some...experience...so I'm not sure how much she can actually carry.
>>
>>31383463
>>31383468
Haha, called it.
Will Charme ever get the loli?
>>
>>31383501
She's already a runaway princess, let's not turn her into a sexual deviant as well.
>>
>>31383468

>>
>>31383519
Oh god what... I dont want to know what you did to that poor child to get her/him/it to do that...
>>
>>31384979
Hey man, don't go judging anon too quickly. There are many perfectly legal and moral ways to obtain such a recording. No reason to think anything horrible is going on.
>>
>>31384979
it was just some amateur VA taking requests on /b/ the other day
ambi-tan, i think.
>>
See, anon didn't do anything creepy except ask a stranger on the internet to sound like a frightened little girl and then presented the recording to a third stranger on the internet as a gift, which was then accepted as amazing. We're all perfectly sane here.
>>
>>31385760
Seems legit to me.

In all seriousness, I'd love to hear this girl try out a few more lines.
>>
>>31385841
Not the lewds, Kaleun. You really don't need those voiced, trust me.
>>
>>31385841
i'd totally ask her for more (and send you the results) if she shows up and i can catch her thread

>>31385947
and i'm pretty sure she can do lewds to some extent
>>
>>31385947
I'd fund it!

Then again, I've not felt the touch of a woman in a long looonnnnng time.
