You finish tucking the tiny adorable bear in your bed while trying your darnest to just not pulling hi in for another hug and risk waking him up. You turn around and manage to catch a glimpse of pink hair as Matilda hides behind the wall. You roll your eyes, walk out the room and catch the little prideful princess sloppily sneaking around. She looks up at you shyly as you say, "You really don't seem to be a very prideful princess if you're sneaking around." You say, a bit scathing but you really can't stop seeing her as the old Matilda.

If she ignores your comment she doesn't show it, "The great Magician Lubu is not some doll you can do whatever you please." She stretches her arm and points accusingly at your face.

"If he isn't going to take care of himself I sure as hell going to do it." You say as flatly as you can and her eyes widen in surprise, "The idiot hasn't slept since...fuck if I know, a really long time." You scratch the back of your head as you look back at your room's door. "You'd probably know this if you didn't spent so much time sulking."

She brings her hands back to her chest and looks down to the floor, "I don't really know what to do in this world. Everything I took pride in is gone, probably by my own hand." Her eyes are beginning to water, oh god please don't cry, you don't know how to deal with crying people. She grits her fist and manages to calm down a little bit, "Even my scales have lost most of their glow. I'm almost powerless right now."

Oh man, she's still messed up. She could use some help.

"Aaaaaiiiiir." You wheeze out and she immediately lets go and looks panicked.

"Oh god! Are you okay? Can you heal yourself?" She puts her hands on your shoulders.

You wave her off and stand up while taking a deep breath.

"Okay lets do this somewhere more private, okay?" You grab her by the wrist and take her to the storage shed where Akira has been making you take stuff from the house. It's far enough away and isolated enough to talk privately.

The front door opens with a loud screech of its rusty hinges, you both head towards the back of the 'shed' which is more like a warehouse. Both of you sit on some boxes.

As both of you sit down she stops hiding her scales. It's a bit dark but you can tell they don't have the glint they had when you first saw her. For now they're pretty much like any normal reptile's. She seems a bit more relaxed right now than when she was spying on you. "It's the first time I have received help from someone as brutishly rude as you." Your eyebrow twitches, she sighs and laughs sadly, "But I guess I can't really call myself a princess when my kingdom is gone and I have nothing. Thank you."

God, she's making you feel even sorrier for her by the minute. "Listen Matilda, you come from a place where there was magic and all sorts of things. Maybe you have some sort of skill that was really common back home but is very rare here." You got to start from somewhere.

She puts her elbows on her knees and rests her chin in her hands, "I always seemed to be able to end disputes between the nobles. Things got really tough when their pride wouldn't let them take another course of action. Though everyone in my family seemed to have that talent, my father ended things in a few minutes." She begins as she tries to remember, you expected her to feel really sad but she is smiling at the memory, "Besides that I had taken as a hobby the art of dressmaking and and singing." She continues, "Those were among my best skills I can think off at the top of my head." She can also shoot fire from her mouth which is something special.

So she's an expert negotiator apparently, "From what I remember, expert negotiators aren't very common. There are news of wars breaking out in other parts of the world after negotiations died down.

You completely expect her to be terrible at singing, being a princes must have pampered her or something but all that is blown away as soon as she begins. She begins singing some sort of choir song you don't know but her singing voice is...beautiful if you were to say something...she could win some money just by singing.

You're speechless and she takes your wide mouthed expression as something good as her scales glimmer a bit more, "I take it my voice is good."

You nod and then come back to reality, "You seem to be doing a bit better now. Now before we're done. Take pride on the fact that you're free to fight back, You might not have gotten this chance so be sure to be proud of being able to be yourself and fight to take your kingdom back from my dad."

She is practically beaming up until the point when you say that she is fighting against your dad. SHe just seems confused. She takes a step back.

"Really? I betrayed him day one, you've been evil way more than I have." You roll your eyes and she seems to relax.

"I...guess you're right." Her scales glimmer in the scant light that gets to this corner. She doesn't seem hostile or distrustful of you.

"You have really helped me Masako, I will let you know that I would never willingly do anything I wouldn't be proud of. I feel that thanksto your help that I would be proud to call you a friend." She puts her hand out for you to grab.

You really don't like her, you don't trust her and she tried to kill you several times as if she had a true grudge against you. She planned exclusively against you and tried to t kill and manipulate you using underhanded tricks. Maybe she is going undercover like you were supposed to, getting subterfuge right.

But...

She got hit by Michiko's attack. You saw all of your dad's energy leave her and Lubu says her connection was severed. She doesn't remember anything of the time when she was under your dad's control so right now she hates him, probably just or as much as you. Her scales glowed with a bright golden color unlike her previous self and all your senses told you the glow was real and not an illusion. She locked herself in her room after finding out what happened to her kingdom and family and what she became...she probably doesn't even want to remember.

However...

You still don't really trust her, but you want to believe that she is a different person even though your paranoia tells you otherwise. You want to believe you are wrong about this sort of thing.

She looks up at your face and down at her hand once again. "Are you alright?" She asks, you're taking too long to take her hand. Thankfully its dark so its hard for her to read your expression.

You want to believe she is different, you want to call her your friend because you're similar to each other despite everything.

You grab her hand, you want to believe her. You want your suspicions to be proven wrong and if that makes you her friend, then so be it.

Her face brightens and she squeezes your hand as she squeezes it.

You heard it before you felt it. A loud crack along with the sensation of pain going up your arm.

Matilda gasps loudly and lets go, "I'm sorry!" she cries out, you don't think she broke anything.
