Post 1

In the grim darkness of the 31st Millennium, iron gods walk among men.

You are god-wielder. You are a proud scion of Legio Pugnatores, the sword of Forge World Yitorach.

Your skin is adamantium: your blood, promethium. Your heart is a star's heart, roiling plasma roaring through your bones. You are armored by the Immaterium itself. You carry death in one fist and fire in the other.

You are the Machine God's own wrath made manifest.

You are a Princeps, pilot of a Titan. And today, you will fight the greatest battle of your life.

Two lines of Engines meeting in combat. The very earth shakes at the wrath of gods tearing each other apart with laser, with claw, with cannon.

"Enemy Engine, bearing oh-one-five!"

"Ahead, full!"

"Firing solution ready, Princeps!"

"Fire!"

Tankred lashes out with bolter and turbolaser, dodging enemy fire and scoring clean hits on the Xeno-Engines. Over the chatter of vox you hear that one of the Annihilators, a Warhound, has already been grievously wounded.

But the Imperial battle-plan is holding; a counter-charge against the enemy to confound them and break the momentum of their assault.

Ahead of you, five Ork Engines lie ahead.

"All Engines," comes the voice of Lord Herax over the vox. "Be advised: Ork jet-pack infantry are aboard several of their Engines. Bewary of aerial assault. An Ork jump-assault is inaccurate, but even a handful climbing aboard your Engine can be fatal."

Sure enough, your auspex detects Ork life-signs on the hulls of the three frontmost Engines. Plumes of fire roar off their backs as a pack of them jump towards the Contumax Belligator.

Notes on the enemy:

G2, G3 have Stormboys (jet infantry) aboard (G1 already launched its infantry payload)

G1, G2 have a smattering of cannons and claws
G3 has cannons and an odd...device for its armaments. You recall from various briefings that this is a form of magnetic tractor beam, capable of picking up objects as large as tanks and flinging them about.
S1 and S2 have cannons and claws.

Feel free to ask any questions if you need clarification.

what dice are we rolling? 1d20 for each weapon right?
>>
>>31307281
Ah, yes, as a reminder:

For combat rolls, please roll 1d20 for each weapon you are firing. For example, if you want Tankred to fire both the Vulcan and the Turbolaser, roll 2d20. The first roll result will be for the Turbolaser, the second will be for the Vulcan.
If you also want to try re-raising Void Shields while also firing weapons, roll 3d20. The 1st and 2nd numbers will be the Turbolaser and Vulcan, respectively, while the 3rd result will be the Void Shields roll. If you're attempting to use the Pugio on top of all of this, then roll 4d20. The Pugio will be the 4th roll result.

Your flesh-arm clenches as it spits a hail of death. Huge mass-reactive shells leap forth like a swarm of enraged insects, tearing apart Ork jet-infantry flying towards the Warbringer.

Lord Herax thanks you for your assistance, but your mind, focused as it is on taming and leading the snarling, bucking spirit of Tankred, barely registers it. Another buck of your arm, and a red lance of light tears away at its shields.

"Auspex readings: enemy Engine's Power Fields are down!" says Cuugo.

Then comes the returning fire.

The oily, swirling surface of your Void Shields flicker as it absorbs incoming fire, sending shells and cannon-fire screaming into the Immaterium. You grunt as red welts of pain blossom across your torso and right shoulder.

"Shields holding," says Cuugo.

"Acknowledged," you manage to say through the stinging pain. "Ahead and leaft, full stride."

"Aye, Princeps. Auspex shows two more packs of jet-infantry have launched from the Xeno Engines." Indeed, you see through the Manifold that reckless Ork infantry were jetting their way through the air--one pack towards you, another towards the Clibanarius.

Another lance of light, and the Orkish abomination of a machine is cored. What passes for its reactor goes critical, detonating the entire Engine and raining flaming debris on the battlefield.

"Engine kill!" crows Cuugo. But your joy turns sour as the incoming jet infantry swerve through the air, somehow avoiding the majority of your shells. Most of them miss and crash into the earth, or smash into your armored skin and pulverize themselves. But a handful have managed to latch on.

--------

You can feel the Ork boarders on your skin, like ants crawling along your flesh. They seem to be crawling along your arms and shoulders to your head, their crude chopping blades trying to find purchase on your adamantium armor.

"Pugnatores, this is Clibanarius. These ants are nothing to us, we will continue the battle."

"Hexa, my good daughter, you must--"

"Negative, Lord, Clibanarius cannot retreat now."

"Princeps," says Mistra, a hint of concern in her voice, "Despite what Princeps Atarko says, I recommend we withdraw and lower Shields. The Uthuans can shoot them off of us."

"No, Moderati," you say. "I agree with Atarko. If we withdraw, we lose what little numerical advantage we have. We will execute Maneuver Sigma-Alpha-Tertius on my mark."

Cuugo gives a nervous chuckle. "Hold on to your seats, then..."

"Princeps, I cannot--"

"Maneuver Sigma-Alpha Tertius--"

"Wait--!"

"Mark."

It begins with a sway, with Tankred's wolf-head moving side to side. Then the arms follow, each pendulum-swing of your ironform flinging off abominable Xenos from your blessed hull, screaming as they are hurled away.

Soon enough, it comes to a stop.

"Princeps Nicator," you say, "Check the auspex for Xeno-life signs." Indeed, the sensatino of crawling ants is gone, and through the Manifold you can see the broken bodies of Orks scattering the ground.

"One moment, Princeps," says Cuugo in reply. A pause. "None detected, maneuver Sigma-Alpha-Tertius successful."

Your arm shakes as the Turbolaser's discharge shrieks out of its barrel. Tankred adds its own fury to the blow, and the result is a laser bolt larger than any you've seen from a Warhound. It lances through what passes for the Engine's ugly head, punching through armor as though it were air. Your Megabolter, such as it is, is but an afterthought.

None of the Orks seem to be firing up on you; the two on the left are busy dancing with three other Pugnatores, while the smaller one in front of the Gladius is occupied with larger prey.

You frown at the news from Deculta; repairs, no doubt, would take precious seconds you might not have. Shaking away doubts from your mind, you look into the Manifold for more targets.

Then you hear Tychare of the Perditores over the vox: "This is Orpheus Tychare of Legio Perditores. All Uthuan, Tung, and Karthadi forces, engage eastern-most Xeno-Engines to counter flanking attempts. Karthadi artillery, remain in fire support."

"Hexa," says Lord Herax, "You must dissenage and have the Uthuans rid you of boarders. Immediately. The Omnissiah's gear-teeth, you have two of them hacking at your cockpit!"

"Lord Herax, I--"

"That is an order, Princeps."

"...aye, Lord." Hexa Atarko can barely mask her frustration. "Dissengaging. Uthuan armored columns, come in, Uthuan armored columns..."

Engage G1 with both both barrels. If we can put these gargants down quickly enough, we'll hopefully be able to support the Tungs and Karthadi before they lose their momentum.

"Armored columns, a recon force, and infantry against Engines?" says Cuugo as he digests the new orders. "Those Ork Engines will savage them even if they win that engagement..."

"Aye," says Mistra, "but we have our own duty. If we move to assist, the Orks before us may begin flanking us."

Cuugo lets out a deep sigh. "I know."

"Enough," you say, cutting through the chatter. "Moderati Ossea, firing solution on Xeno-Engine, bearing two-six-oh."

"Fire!"

The Turbolaser rips through what Power Fields are left on the Xeno-Engine, shearing away the abomination's left arm and most of its torso. A burst of Megabolter fire shears away its ugly head, and the decapitated Engine continues plodding forward, all aim and direction lost.

"Darius," comes Lord Herax's voice. "We will handle the rest here. Go, lend Tankred's guns to the Imperials to our east--they cannot stand alone against the Xeno-Engine."

Help the Imperials? But what of the Warmongers?

"No. If the Imperials fail, then we will be outmaneuvered. We cannot allow this, and you are in the best position to go assist them. Return to us when your work is finished."

You nod, even though Herax can't see it. "Compliance. Moderati, left, full left."

You don't get very far, however, when a Karthadi voxes in.

"Cannon fire spotted from Site Primaris! The anti-orbital guns are firing! I repeat, the anti-orbital guns--!"

The very earth explodes as cannon shells, designed to tear apart ships out in the very void, smash into the melee. The vast majority miss by a wide margin--anti-orbital guns were never designed for such close-range work.

But one lucky shell finds its mark.

"Princeps," says Mistra, her voice shaking. "Princeps, the Annihilators report that the Helios, one of their Reavers, has fallen. An anti-orbital shell tore away their right leg. Blood of the Machine..."

"All units, this is Orpheus Tychore..."

Could The Tung do any damage to the orbital guns?
>>

As we charge forwards, the orbital guns will have to fire upon the Ork forces as well, plus the shots will be poorly aimed. It was just unlucky that a Titan was hit.

Oh and fire on S1 with both guns as we charge the Gargants to the east.
>>
>>31313700
They can certainly kill the gunners and use grenades and lasguns to ruin the controls, yes.
>>
>>31313701
Second.
>>31313755
In that case a path will need to be opened for them. They could probably slip through. The Ork engines can't attack them while busy with our Titans.
When we're done with the mob we should send them to attack the guns.
>>
>>31313755
>Peel off forces to make a strike on the anti-orbital guns--we cannot afford to be engaged with the enemy while being shelled
Then have the Tung pull of and hit the orbital guns, they are fast enough to get there destroy them and get back before the guns do any more damage
>>
>>31313825
Second. Send the Tung there. They won't be any help against the engines anyway.
>>
>>31313885
Voting ends.

And with that...

THREAD END

We will pick up next time with a Tung assault on the anti-orbital guns! Meanwhile, Tankred and the Uthuans stand against a Gargant Mob, and the assault on Site Primaris continues.

Next thread will probably be Thursday, April 10, 7 pm Eastern Standard Time. However, I may have something personal pop up on Thursday; as always, keep an eye out on my twitter at https://twitter.com/TwiceBornQM for more updates.

Thanks for playing! Archiving thread...
