You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

A low murmur fills your ears. You reach up through the black, forcing your eyes open, and the world unfurls through your senses. The air is cold and clear, even down here your blocked-off corner of NY’s subway system, the chill of early-morning frost clinging to its breath. You slowly realize that there’s no one talking, just… lots of people snoring.

You sit up, rubbing sleep from your eyes. A tiny cough passes between your lips as the sweet, sweet taste of halitosis sets in. More spicy than sweet, actually. Like stale Chai. Hot, dry, coarse.

You move to check your watch, but quickly realize that you don’t have one anymore.

Well. Not like you have a job to be at.

Slumping down on one elbow, you plunge through the churning mire of your early-morning mind for reasons not to go straight back to sleep. You guess you were gonna see Peter yesterday, before Creeper projectile-vomited all over that plan. There’s the matter of effects, too – you need a new phone, or at least a watch. Jacket, too.

You don’t even want to think about the turf war you may have jumpstarted. Or the new mutants of the scar. Or the ‘vampire’ prowling the ruins outside, draining hapless destitutes of their life-force. Hell, you’re not even sure if you want to think about the Tabbycat job, or that detective agency Peter’s girlfriend was gonna get you in touch with. Knowing your luck, you’ve royally screwed your chances at either offer.

Fuck the scar. I want to leave this place actually, but i just can't think of a place to settle.
Probably just about anywhere would be better to live than here when shit hits the fan.

Job, Jeb and Turf war.
>>
>[X] Sorting out your life.

Well, if you’re going to deal with all that other shit, you’re going to do so properly equipped. Which means sorting out your life (sort of… to the extent to which it can feasibly be sorted, anyhow), acquiring some manner of income, and generally getting yourself prepared fort he worst.

You pull yourself up, stretching out a yawn. Arms kinda ache.

Still, no sign of your injuries, inside or out. You’re healing faster than ever.

You’re preparing to head out into the city in search of Boxing Day bargains, when you realize that you have absolutely no money. You cast an eye over the sleeping figures of your companions and sigh heavily. You can’t believe you’re the only truly broke mutie in the group now. Fucking Layla probably has more money than you.

Finally, some fucking sense. I can understand some people wanting to go for the eye upgrades cause they're simple. I can't understand choosing something that you also need to get a bunch of prerequisites for too
>>
>>31300452
Crusty, can we get some of the mutations cheaper, if we get more limitations and drawbacks? We really can't bank more than 3 points, without spending them on something else/useless stuff that would be cool if we invested extra 10 points or so.

Maybe it works only half of the time, or has a chance to come out from somewhere unintended or something.

You know what? You can probably find most of what you need floating acceptably near the top of a garbage heap. There is, however, the matter of the phone… but you can work that out later. For now you just need some shades on your face and a jacket over your shoulders.

And a job, too. That would be nice.

Careful not to wake anyone, you make your way out, shifting out of phase with the visible spectrum as you emerge into the light. You criss-cross your way out of the scar, into the mesh of alleys and that surround the city’s main arteries, systematically checking off a list of noted trash spots.

It takes you almost two hours, but eventually you have a set of wide-rimmed shades on your nose, and an acceptably thick jacket to wear. You even manage to find a spare hoodie, too, which you sling under your arm in preparation for the next time your physiology decides to get all uppity and weird.

With your plunder in tow, you make your way deeper into Queens, toward Peter’s house. Now socially acceptable (sorta), you let the veil of invisibility fall away, becoming just another bobbing head in the crowds of Boxing Day shoppers. The busy streets slow you down a little, but eventually you find yourself approaching Peter’s porch, once again feeling quite acutely out of place.

We've never needed to bank more than three until this point, that's the most powerful ability cost we've aimed for.

Now I'm pretty sure most of us are going for senses 5, and I'm pretty sure we can get to it.

So no. Since we haven't ever had a goal to purchase a power that cost more than 3 up to this point.

It's going to be either geointuitive vision or senses 5.
I'm quite torn between the two, but I REALLY want a lvl 5 power.
>>
Are JJ and Squirrel Girl related? Like cousins or half-siblings.
>>
>>31300566
The reason why we never banked more than 3 points was because many of the lvl 1 powers were really cost effective.
>>
>>31300797
Geo would help with allot of things, but i think senses five will yield a better return on the dodging bullet theme, since its 360 degrees instead of Line of sight.

Plus im kind of hoping we get to experiance some of our other senses, like being able to taste metal composition and such.
>>
>>31300700
>Knock.

jesus christ, no rocks. I see a roll otherwise and dread what a 1 would do. We'd probably throw it so hard we'd kill Aunt May or something.
>>
>>31300797
Sense 5 here, though I'd like Geointuitive vision as well. Has a lot of potential offensively and defensively
>>
>>31300862
>, like being able to taste metal composition and such.

We'd sorta be like that mentally handicapped FDA agent from Chew.

>>
>>31300732
Seriously? Remember claws? Remember wings? We were aiming to save up before that (at least some people). Not to mention Phasebros.
>>31300752
How about just severe limitations and prerequisites of it, that can be decreased, as more points are invested (1 at the time)?
Just that we make dumb choices, as soon as we get couple of point's.

But I am in minority that thinks we can just use a knife, instead of evolving tail with a bone protrusion that can slice bread.
>>
>>31300797
That really depends on how distracting Senses 5 turns out to be. I can see JJ jumping at shadows for a long time after we acquire that.
>>
>>31300862
Well, the thing is that the spidersense doesn't tell where the danger is coming from, it only tells you when there's a danger incoming.
>>

>>
>>31300920
Oh I'm not saying he won't get the hang of it, but given that Crusty's said that our Danger Sense won't give directional or much information about the magnitude of the threat I think it might take a while for JJ to sort it out.

Senses 5 won't make us immune to ambushes, somebody will be too fast or the attack simply cannot be dodged.

Also, geointuitive vision can be used for than just reactions (throwing shit like Bullseye)

personally, I'd rather start working towards green finger but whatever
>>
>>31300901
Spidersense is the cherry on top, its the better enhanced senses that are the important part.
>>
>>31300901
Even still. Early warning will help a hell of allot.
>>
I sort of wish that in some situations JJ and Pete both get spidersense trigger at same time and they'll do the exact same movements and both are like "Holy crap"
>>

Yea, but the senses 5 doesn't JUST give JJ spidersense, it also improves the other senses.
Unless I've misunderstood how it works.

That's not how it works.

>[X] Knock.

You raise your hand to knock, glancing from side to side.

The nerves set in. Not even supposed to be here, really, are you? Real person house in the middle of real person street. You can’t help but feel as though someone’s watching you, just out of sight, and shaking their head in disapproval. You bite down on your lip and tap quietly at the door.

A minute passes. Nothing. Too quiet? Maybe you should knock again?

But then you might come off as pushy or something. Maybe they’re just busy.

You wait a little longer, before eventually plucking up the guts to knock again, turning up the volume a little. Footsteps thunder down a set of stairs, drawing steadily closer.

The door swings open. A bleary-eyed girl – Gwen was her name, right – stares out from under a mop of blonde hair, adjusting her pyjamas slightly with a spare hand.

“Ummyea”– Her nose wrinkles and she backs up a little. –“ugh, man, sorry, you kinda stink.”

Oh, man, yeah. You do. Dumpster threads.

“Y-yeah, I know…”

“You want Peter, right?”

You nod.

“Um, yeah, just…” She scratches the back of her neck. “I’ll go get him. Come in, I guess.”

Beyond your own personal miasma, you think you can smell eggs frying.

“N-nah.” You mutter. “I’m good.”

She shrugs, and makes her way back into the house.

“Hey, Pete!” She shouts, almost at the top of her lungs. “Your hobo friend’s here!”

You cringe. Announce it to the whole neighbourhood, why doesn’t she?

Something clatters to the floor upstairs. A moment later, Peter comes racing down the stairs, eyes wide. You guess he wasn’t expecting you to turn up at his door anytime soon. Hell, he might not’ve been expecting you to turn up at all. You yourself still can’t believe that anyone bothered looking for you – you’d have left yourself for dead long before a week.

“Hey!” He makes his way to the door. “Holy crap, you’re”–

“Alive?”

He pauses, and sort of smiles.

“Yeah.”

“Well, uh, yeah, I’m okay.” Yesterday your arms were wings! That’s how okay you are! “I was just, um, wondering about Urich. He alright?”

“Well…” Peter’s expressions teeters in the sober little space between relief and melancholy. “…He’s alive. Once they got what they wanted, his kidnappers just let him go. He’s not gonna be at the Bugle anytime soon, though.”

You guessed as much.

“What about you?” You perk up a little at the question, raising a curious eyebrow. What about you? “What happened after… all that stuff…?”

God, how could you even begin to explain it all? You’re barely in the loop yourself.

“You wouldn’t believe a word of it.” You say. Peter grins.

“I can believe a lot of things. Try me.”

“Well…” You explain the cocoon. The sopping, reeking awakening. The feverish dreams of home. You explain what little you can of Typhon, turning your voice down as low as possible, just on the off-chance that anyone’s listening. You doubt Peter wants his family to know about any of this.

He grimaces through most of it, though there’s a twinkle of something other in his eyes, something growing and growing…

He scratches his chin, furrowing his brow. “Joseph Typhon… I swear I recognize that…”

“Yeah, uh, Typhon. Greek mythology. He was the”–

“No, no… I mean the whole name…” He squints into some far-off vista of thought, before grudgingly withdrawing back to reality. “…Maybe it’s nothing. I’ll look him up, though. Any scientist worth his PhD leaves some kind of paper trail.”

“Thanks.” Man, you feel kinda bad about asking any more of him… “Actually, I was also kinda wondering… did your girlfriend…” You pause, blanking on her name.

“Chat.”

“Chat!” Right, yeah. “Uh, did she phone those guys? The agency people?”

“Oh.” Peter smiles. “Yeah, she did. Technically a girl, not some guys, but… yeah, she did. Apparently her boss liked the sound of ‘invisible strong guy’. Especially the ‘invisible’ bit.”

Yeah, you don’t say?

“S-seriously?”

He nods. “Yeah, I could tell her to call you”–

“Phone exploded.” You say, almost apologetically.

“Oh.” He blinks. “Okay. Well, I’m pretty sure Laura has her number, so you can get in touch through her.”

Gears click into place up above. You feel the world shift, just very slightly.

“Thanks, man. Really.”

Thanks.

What? No. At its first rank the mere use of the breath doesn't trigger a panic attack unless it's actually ignited by something else. Ranking it up would just make every single use a gamble.
>>
>>31301960
No way man, making it stronger would probably raise the DC since it would involve more fire. The DC goes away once JJ conquers his phobia, not through spending points

senses 5 is overrated imo. spidey sense is not ambush proof and an additional +1 to senses rolls isn't worth 4 points imo.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that rolling when using the breath is for the phobia, not to actually shoot fire.
>>
>>31302012
Wrong

The DC is not dependant on the power of the flame, just that their is flame.
>>
>>31302064
My point was that there isn't any fire at all at level 1 draconic breath. I think the description was that it's just volatile gas. Leveling it up brings it up to actual fire, which would make the DC harder since the phobia is for fire, not just hot gas.

“By the way,” You feel like you should return the favour in some small way “I’d be on my guard if I were you.”

Peter furrows his brow questioningly.

“Yeah, there’s… these guys…” These stupid-ass guys. “…mutants, actually, pretty much going around stealing crap. So, y’know, watch out.”

Speaking of scary things, there’s that other little side effect of your personal war against Creeper…

“…Actually, you might just want to give all Creeper’s old territory a wide berth. A bunch of NY’s worst’ve decided to move in on his action, and it looks like it could get messy…”

“Yeah…” He eyes you a little trepidatiously. “I know. It’s all over the papers. Apparently someone’s even managed to switch production back on for that Jack stuff…”

What? How did that happen? Creeper covers his damn tracks. He’s a pro. He wouldn’t just leave shit lying around for someone to –

Sighing a little wearily, you say goodbye, but a thought darts out as you as you turn to leave.

“Hey, Peter?”

“Yeah?”

“You, uh… you said most scientists leave a paper trial, right?”

“Mhmm.” He nods. “Theses, peer reviews, stuff like that. It’s all there if you know where to look.”

“Would you mind looking up a Joshua Green?” You’re going to regret this. You can feel it, throbbing like a dormant storm in the base of your skull. “Y-y’know, just, if you have some time to spare?”

He seems surprised for a moment, but them… sort of… understanding?

“Yeah, sure.”

You thank him and make your way off his porch, back into the fury of New York.

>[X] Chat.

Questions bubble at the forefront of your brain as you stalk your way back through the cold. You can’t imagine Creeper giving an inch to anyone. You were there in his days of glory – you saw him claw and connive and kill his way to prominence. The Russians challenged the Creeper, and the Russians died screaming. The Maggia challenged the Creeper, and the Maggia recoiled as though from an open fire, back to the Brooklyn, where they could lick their wounds in peace. It takes a special kind of evil to attract the attention of the Kingpin, and Creeper had it in spades.

Maybe he’s just getting slow? Maybe he’s older than you always assumed?

No. Doesn’t feel like that.

You pick up a paper on your way, feeling a little guilty for using your invisibility to circumvent the cost. It does little to clear up the situation. “JACK IS BACK” , the headline declares, in a gaunt, grave font, but nobody’s sure how it’s gotten back on the streets in such volume. There are some vague implications made against Thompson Lincoln (better known as Tombstone) and his like, as well as a few Russian and Chinese names you don’t recognize, but whoever’s doing the writing is clearly treading with care.

The sun is peeking through the clouds at a high angle by the time you make it back, heading down into the cool, dark refuge of the station. The moment you hit the bottom of the stairs, Laura seems to materialize from one of the other platforms, her eyes cutting through the gloom.

“Where have you been?” It almost sounds like an accusation.

“Uh… I just went out for a while.” You offer, a little taken aback. Lounging by the fire in the centre of the platform, Gaby and Layla both look up. “Saw Peter an’ stuff.”

A long silence hangs in the air. The world almost seems to grind to a halt, all becoming still. Is she even blinking?

“…I see.”

Okay.

“Um, hey, actually, I was wondering…” You ask her to send a text Chat’s way, and she agrees in silence, offering only a nod.

Spidy sense will do squat against DOOM.

We should totally start preforming as as street/stage magician. We can to vanishing tricks and some levitation(just lift the stuff up)/superhuman strength stuff already. With geo we could juggle chainsaws, or pianos or something.
We should see if we can preform something like that in tabby cat someday.

That Tabby Cat doesn't seem like the best place for that kind of thing, and as >>31303504 mentioned JJ would probably screw it up. >[X] Ask [Kevin] to show you where the Young X-Men hang out
>[X] Write in.

Acutely aware of Laura’s lingering stare, you can’t help but feel a little judged as you ask Kevin if he can introduce you to the… man, if your brain could make a noise, it’d be sighing… ‘Young X-Men’.

“Oh, yeah, sure.” He springs up, rolling down his synthetic sleeves and moving away from the length of rebar he’d been focusing on. You can’t help but notice the long, delicate grooves trailing across its surface, like some kind of strange, alien script. You guess he’s getting pretty precise with those powers of his.

“Um…” You glance at Laura. “You want to come, Laura?”

She finally disengages her stare, her brow curling inward very slightly, eyes descending in thought.

“Yes.”

“Okay, coo”–

“I’m coming, too!” Layla picks herself up from what must be her millionth game of cards against Noriko (you’ve yet to discern what she’s actually playing… odds are on some kind of diabolical game of her own design). “It’ll be”… her eyes water, her form reels back, and she sneezes hard, long, gleaming cord of snot flying from her nose. “…fun.”

You notice the slight croak in her voice and the bags under her eyes.

"Um... maybe you should sit this one out, Layla..." Suggests Gaby, a note of concern entering her timid voice.

An unspecified number is still 1/20.

Trying to get 3 19's in a row? Yep that's low chances.

Getting any three matching numbers on a d20

1/20.
>>
>>31303900
That's not how it works you little shit.
Pick any specific number X.
Chance to get X on a d20 is 1/20.
Chance to get X on a d20 and then X again is 1/20x1/20 which is 1/400.
Chance to get X, X and then X again is 1/20x1/400 which is 1/8000.
Since X can be 20 numbers, times 1/8000 by 20 to get the chance of any number being rolled 3 times in a row, which is 1/400.
>>
Rolled 15

>>31303900
That is still wrong. By your logic, we should get triple every 20 rolls. We don't. And this WAS aiming for a specific number. That specific number goal was set when the first 19 was rolled.

>critical mass officially exceeded

“Nah…” She pauses to run a sleeve along her nose. Oh, ew. Hygiene, girl. “…I’m good, I just got a headache…”

You shift your vision into the thermal spectrum, checking her silhouette for anomalies. Sure enough, she’s a few shades hotter than she should be, especially in this weather.

“Yeah, I don’t think so…”

“Whaaaaa”– She pauses for another sniffle –“aat? I’m fine…”

“You’re sick, you’re thirteen, there might be danger.”

“…You do dangerous stuff all the time.” She counters, her voice low and hoarse.

“I heal.”

She droops into something vaguely resembling a pout, and a softly smiling Noriko gets up to pat her on the back.

“Come on, L, he’s right.” She places a cool palm across the younger girl’s forehead. “You’ve got a fever.”

She stands there for a moment, seemingly working one fevered thought against the other, before finally concluding that:

“You suck.”

Huffing throatily, she turns back toward the fire… and promptly trips up over Noriko’s foot. What happens next isn’t clear, exactly – not for the first few seconds. You lurch forward to catch her, or at least to see if she’s alright or something. Her hands hit the floor.

She blurs, her figure fraying at the edges, occupying just a little more space than it should.

Noriko is shoved back, landing straight on her ass.

You stop, and let your brain catch up.

You look at Layla. And Layla. And Layla. And more Layla.

“Ow…”
“Ow…”
“Ow…”
“Ow…”
“Ow…”

A chorus of small voices cut one another off, and seven identical Laylas, all of them nursing the same bruised elbow, stare at one another.

What?

Multiplication powers can only make an already useful person more useful. We can't convice one Layla to take out the garbage you think we'll be able to convince 7?

Her usefulness will depend on what kind of power she has. I've seen characters with multiplication power take damage when their clones are hurt. (cut one you cut all of them) This would be a problem.

Good luck convincing the clone to sit down long enough to read a book.

“Wha…”

You can’t move. Your thoughts pile up across one another in one huge, buzzing heap, each one a burst of incomprehensible, half-formed lightning. For a moment you really do just stare alongside everyone else, silence falling like a weighted net over the station, smothering all action, all reaction.

Gaby says something in Spanish. You think Noriko is about to freak out. Kevin and Lucas just stand with their eyes glued to the scene.

“This…” This can’t be happening. “Is this some kind of… are they real?”

“Uh… just checkin’…” Lucas speaks up, forming his words slowly and deliberately. “…but nobody here can, like, bend light or some shit, right?”

Not as far as you know.

Two Laylas reach out tentatively for one another, fingers quaking, and just ever so slightly brush the tips of their digits against one another. Their chests heave, as if trying to swallow something huge, as if in the midst of a gigantic sob. Disbelief.

“Oh… oh my god…” They speak almost as one - there’s always a straggler or two, just a little behind or off-key. “…They’re real…”

You kneel down to her level. Can’t believe this. Too much. Too much coincidence. But it’s right in front of you.

“Congratulations, Layla.” You carve the words into the silence. “You are now a second class citizen.”

And that there is the truth. Not a friendly truth, but the truth nonethele–

“Yes!” They caw.

What?
>>
>>31304886
>Layla clones all have the same amount of money.
>6/7 clones spend money for the day, buy Layla 7 food.
>They all merge back into main Layla.

>>
>>31304861
>copy money
>buy something
>copy change
>trade the change for larger bills
>copy the larger bills
>use the larger bills to buy stuff
>copy the change
and the circle is complete and nobody can do anything about it because it's all legal tender.

Then again, the stuff will probably just vanish when the clones vanish.
>>
>(2/2)

“Yes!” Two of them share a hi-five. “Yes! Yes! Yes!”

Um, this isn’t the proper reaction…

“Oh my god!” Grinning broadly, a second pair grab one-another’s cheeks, while another almost floors herself with laughter beside them. “My own clone! Clones! Hey…”

A grin passes across the collective face of Layla, like a toothy current.

“What do we call each other?”
“Dunno.”
“I dunno either!”
“You know what name I always wanted?”

They giggle uncontrollably, and sing out in perfect symphony: “Tyrooooooone!”

One of the Laylas near the middle of the… collection… snorts in self-satisfied mirth, and adds:

“That’s from a cartoon, by the way.”

>His uncanny ability to use virtually any common object as a lethal projectile actually makes him more dangerous than many characters who do have superhuman powers. Although he is not technically superhuman, Bullseye can accomplish many feats with thrown projectiles. He has demonstrated the ability to lacerate a person's throat with a thrown playing card, spit his own tooth through a human skull, toss a paper airplane to a distant rooftop, and kill a person with a toothpick thrown through a window from a hundred yards away

We could cripple somebody with a paper airplane. We could knock somebody out with our sunglasses. The possibilities are endless.

>>
>>31306137
Because originally we started out with Invis/Senses, and it spiraled from there. Healing & Claws/Fangs from Laura, Agility/Adhesive Touch/Strength from spidy, Electric Touch from Noriko.

If we want to get better at avoiding damage, things like Shadow Field, Enhanced Agility, the various agility combo upgrades (ENHANCED KINESICS, GEOINTUITIVE VISION, Level 5 senses aka I can't believe it's not spidey sense!) would make us better for combat, but combat isn't the game. Living is the game. Talking to people is part of that, as is character development.

For Typhon, the reasoning behind the name is simple. Cronus and Typhon are brothers. Cronus is the first son, defeated by its lessers, whereas Typhon is the final son, who defeats the same god that lays Cronus low in single combat.
>>
Cronus also leads the Titans in rebellion against his own father. That's some heavy messiah shit right there.

Ah okay.

Didn't see that bit.

And it was obvious why Typhon was named the way he is.

Note that the current long jump record is roughly 29ft.

Close.

>long jump
When you said 40, did you mean roughly veritcal?
Or jumping forward?

How much more durable would JJ get going from Str 2 to 3? It'd have to raise a bit since you said his body became able to handle the strength. Right?

Thanks for answering questions man

I thought you meant 40 ft vertical jump.
>>

I guess it has something to do with the fact that the stuff that he throws are more or less an extension of his body and thus it works without him thinking about it where as for JJ it's a concious process.

Typhon route when
>>

No prob.

Forward. I'll have to do some examination of the forces involved to determine exactly how far JJ should be able to jump, but he can't go forty ft straight up.

JJ would actually get rather more durable at ES3. He wouldn't be bulletproof or anything but he wouldn't bruise as easy.

You could have accepted that spare textbook, anon.

He carried it around just for you.

Cool
Do you know how fast he should be able to run?

Suggestion for a bioweave extrapolative.
Redundant organs.
