Welcome to Academy City. The time is morning, the weather is chilly and the date is August 7.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you are currently hospitalised. Your attending physician, whose name also happens to be Heaven Canceller, has prescribed you with plenty of bed rest. Given that you got yourself cut up then sewn back together you were pretty inclined to agree with him. It hurts to move but the painkillers mitigated it somewhat. Your condition aside, you also had two other outstanding issues.

One, you had to attend Kurozuma Wataru’s hearing today. The former leader of Big Spider had finally been apprehended at was now facing charges for murder and illegal possession of a firearm. The kicker was that he didn’t actually steal a gun and then gun down three men with it. That was all you. Your feelings on the matter remain to be settled. The second issue was Teacher. His visit last evening revealed that he had found his wife, and that you had fulfilled your part of the deal. He had also admitted to planning his vengeance on the matter.

Right now, your morning was free so it was probably a good idea to take advantage of this brief window of opportunity to do something.

You turned your attention to the strange new addition to your book pile. You’ve never seen it before so Sagara must have snuck it in when you weren’t looking. The cover is nondescript, the title actually being the kanji for bird and god separated by a cross. It wasn’t a thick book and if it was text-laden like you suspected it was then you’d probably be done with it within the hour. Thus you got to reading.

You wish you didn’t. Nunotaba said she was going to be including your friends in her works and she clearly delivered. It didn’t take you more than five minutes to go over whole of her morbid subject in great detail. Instead you spent the rest of the hour trying to put the images out of your head as you buried the book in the bin. The nurse who brought you breakfast found you curled up under the sheets and putting undue stress on your injuries. Her attempts at stopping you from blocking out the memory with self-inflicted pain were moderately successful.

The doc arrived later after breakfast with a wheelchair.

“Well Anti-Skill is clamouring for your presence though as your doctor I would advise against it. Of course you should be fine if you do decide to go. We’ll figure something out if you can’t attend.”

Are you going to attend Kurozuma’s hearing in your current state?

You’re not sure why they wanted you to attend. You weren’t exactly a witness to the crime he was accused of. Still, it was better to show up in person, if not to get it out of the way then to at least get out of the hospital. The doc easily got you your release papers before helping you in to the wheelchair.

“Alright, try not to move your upper body too much,” he then hands you a bottle of painkillers, “I took the liberty of replacing your empty one with this. Try not to take pills with alcohol unless you like heart problems.”

You followed the doc out to the ground floor of his hospital. There was no need for you to use your hands. Your telekinesis was more than enough to push your wheelchair around. It wasn’t hard to maintain the speed of a walk and you were sure if you dared you could go quite fast. The only problem was actually how abruptly you could slow down without hurting yourself or others. It might be something worth looking in to as long as you were confined to a wheel chair. To small amount of surprise you found Yomikawa waiting in the lobby to give you a ride to court. You tried not to let it bother you too much.

“Remember, he’s already in stitches,” the doc spoke to Yomikawa, “If he laughs too hard he will literally lose his sides.”

She snorted and moved to push you.

You waved her off and moved under your own power. Thankfully she doesn’t take it badly. The ride to court is brief and silent. It was housed in one of Anti-Skill buildings. This wasn’t some high-profile case or anything. Just a small hearing that was for all intents and purposes a formality. There weren’t many inside either, just a judge, a clerk, a few Anti-Skill officers and small audience. You recognised Konori Mii sitting down on a bench and frowning at the whole situation. Asuka was of course also present though she was sitting on the opposite end of the room. You wheeled yourself next to her when she signalled you over.

“Well dear it looks like you made it after all,” she hugged you around your neck, “That’s a relief you know? I don’t know what I’d do without The Dean.”

You finally noticed that her sword wasn’t with her.

At the appointed, Kurozuma is led in to the room in chains and sat down front and centre opposite the judge. He was relaxed and though you had several ideas of why he would be, you didn’t know which one it was specifically. The hearing started shortly. The charges were laid against him, three counts of murder, illegal possession of a firearm among smaller misdemeanours. It was more than enough to put him away for good. Kurozuma was definitely taking the fall for you and if you kept silent then that was it. Yomikawa hadn’t explicitly asked you to testify but...

You bit your lip and held your tongue as his sentence was read out. Kurozuma didn’t flinch. Instead he looked proud of himself. Maybe you could have done something different. Maybe you could have spoken out despite not knowing what to say. Then you remembered that this was what Kurozuma chose to do for you. He didn’t ask for anything in return but for this alone you think you’ll find a way to make it up to him when he got out, if he got out. He gave you a smile as they led him out. You only felt slightly bad about yourself.

With the hearing done, everyone started to file out. As you exited with Asuka, Konori approached. She was barely holding it together but somehow managed to initiate conversation without breaking down.

“I don’t know what he did to you, but I am grateful that you stayed silent,” she said.

Her words were like a twist of the knife. Whether she was misunderstanding or knew the whole story you would never know. With your decision to stay silent however, you definitely were not going to talk about it.

“It’s no big deal,” you offer.

Her sincere thanks and relief only made your dishonesty feel shittier. You remained silent after that as you were wheeled away by Asuka.

“How are you feeling?” Asuka asked once you had crossed back to the 7th.

The time is now nearing lunch, the weather is warm and the date remains unchanged.

“Fine,” you started with a lie before you corrected yourself, “No, actually I feel crummy doing what had to be done but there’s no going back on that. I’ll get better.”

Asuka looked on in amusement.

“I was asking about your wounds but I suppose that is also a valid answer,” she replied half worried.

You only managed a tired sigh before your phone rings. It was Kaoru.

“Torikov-san, I trust that you are feeling better,” she greeted.

“What now?” you asked.

“I had originally wanted to talk to you face to face so imagine my surprise when I was told that you had been released,” she explained, “A mutual acquaintance of mine was interested in talking to you about Teacher.”

“I don’t know,” you trailed off in thought, “I mean I’m not exactly busy or anything.”

“He is offering a free meal and more if your information proves useful. Admittedly I am also interested in talking with Kudou-san so I do not mind occupying her whilst you talk with my friend.”

“Let me think about it,” you finally said.

“We are working on schedule so I would prefer if you could meet before nightfall but I will not pressure you.”

With that she hung up.

“Oh really?” her eyes narrowed.

“Well I also got some business but I can put that on the backburner for a bit,” you shrugged.

“Well I was hoping we could get some lunch first.”

They were offering a free lunch so maybe you could take advantage of that. That said you weren’t exactly sure who the “mutual acquaintance” that Kaoru mentioned was. You’re also unsure whether the two meeting would not start another swordfight.

You decided to err on the side of caution. Besides, Kaoru said she needed that information later in the afternoon. A free dinner and getting to enjoy the afternoon before diving back in to the world of magic, vampires and goodness-knows-what-else was a good thing. You weren’t exactly in great shape in case hostilities broke out either and you certainly did not mind Asuka’s company. She then wheeled you over to Ahnenerbe. It seemed like a while since the both of you had been here. Well you suspected she was a regular after snapping her fingers and getting her desired service without uttering a word.

Remembering the doc had recommended something easy on the stomach you settled for some soup. Made up with cream and mushroom, the accompaniments were sun-dried tomatoes, some hand and a bit of bread. Good thing you were planning on having an early evening meal then you thought. Asuka was enjoying her own plate of curry with what looks like a croquette. Amidst it all you both chatted about what your injuries entailed.

“Did he say really tell your homeroom teacher to not make you laugh too hard?” she thought it silly.

“Yeah, among other things,” you confirm, “but at least I have my telekinesis.”

“I certainly would not mind having to take care of you though,” she admitted candidly.

How touching.

“Then I hope you do better than yesterday,” you replied jokingly.

“Hmph,” she turned her nose up, “I am simply not used to it is all.”

‘It’ could mean anything from ‘tender-loving care’ to ‘showing concern’ to ‘not using coercive methods to obtain what I want’. At least she was admitting to it so that’s a good thing, probably.

“Well no harm done,” you quickly followed up, “Though I don’t imagine we’ll be getting in to too many fights with my condition.”

“Fear not dear, The Dean and I shall protect you from the foulest of monsters,” Asuka assured, “I would dare say that there is nothing in this world that The Dean and I cannot do together.”

“So it’s like some kind of magical sword?” you asked.

“Now that you mention it, The Dean has been in the family for generations yet it has never lost its edge. Others keep asking how I wield such a heavy sword yet I do not feel the weight all,” Asuka carefully sipped on her tea, “Then again, my family have their own sword school so maintenance is a given. That and my uncle agreed that the sword isn’t actually that heavy so it is probably because I am used to it.”

“Your uncle really sounds like a sword guy.”

“Oh he is. He is the best swordsman I have ever met,” she plainly admitted, “Mother keeps lamenting how he had managed to best her right after she married. Despite that he refuses to call himself a swordsman and would rather help others in their pursuits instead.”

With pleasure out the way, it was time to for business. After giving her a quick call, she agreed to meet you at Ahnenerbe with her companion. Asuka elected to stay with it, apparently curious about what the diminutive Sikh girl had to speak with her about.

She arrived shortly with your mysterious mutual acquaintance. Turns out it was that black-robed Anglican punk, Stiyl. Introductions were made and drinks were ordered.

“Well I believe the Englishman has business with you,” Kaoru started.

“Wouldn’t eavesdropper be a problem?” you asked.

“Assuming your girlfriend doesn’t speak Punjabi then we should be fine,” Stiyl interjected.

“Huh?”

“My translation spell is still in your hair and it only activates when someone speaks to you in Punjabi,” Kaoru elaborated, “And I know Kudou-san does not understand us.”

True to her words, Asuka had spent the time silently scowling at the foreign language the three of you were no doubt speaking in. You shrug apologetically before turning back to Stiyl. Kaoru takes that as her cue to keep Asuka occupied.

“So, what can you tell me about Teacher?”

“Not so fast,” you stop him, “First we discuss payment.”

Stiyl looked annoyed but agreed. His offer is a free meal with payment per question. Informative answers doubled it. You weren’t hurting for cash so it was a matter of how much you really wished to tell him.

You find the terms agreeable, in fact they were quite generous. The fact that informative answers only doubled payment wasn’t actually much of an incentive. It did mean this meant you could sneak in half-truths and vague answers easily and his next question would cost him more. Given that informative was subjective and ill-defined, you were better off making him ask more questions that give him everything.
“Before we start can I ask why you want to know?” you began.

“I almost ran in to him yesterday and I have a feeling we’re going to run in to each other again,” Stiyl replied, “Just want to be prepared is all.”

“Fair enough.”

You pull out your cell phone to keep track of how many questions he asked.

“Look I’ve heard the stories but since you’re apparently his ‘student’ then I thought it was better to ask you. He wasn’t in a talkative mood recently. You happen to know anything about that?”

“Yes.”

When Stiyl looked incredulous you gave him a really wide grin.

“Alright smart-ass, what caused that mood?”

“I’m apparently a foolish and slow student.”

“I’m not going to argue that,” Stiyl started chewing on a cigarette he produced from his robes, “Is he mortal?”

“Yes.”

“And he can take down a vampire?”

“Also yes.”

“Bullshit. No mortal, magician or not, has ever seen a vampire and lived,” Stiyl shouted, “You’re full of shit and a waste of my time.”

[1/2]
>>
>>31289579
“Can’t handle the truth?” you shrug.

He snorts.

“Alright, so he can take down a vampire,” Stiyl, “How did he do it?”

“Fire, lots of fire.”

Stiyl stroked his chin contemplatively as you remembered. You remembered how Teacher calmly and confidently bathed a vampire and himself in fire. They bathed in it until on Teacher remained. You recall that he wasn’t even angry, simply calm and nearly indifferent to the vampire’s suffering. If that was indifference you’re not even sure you can imagine what Teacher had in store for the poor fool that pissed him off.

You are the Principal of Cypress Park. All the kids called you Mum. It was the least you could do for them, seeing as they had lost their parents. You had put in years of work, countless hours and you had never once regretted your choice of profession. These children needed protection, they needed guidance but most of all they needed love. The older ones would leave of course, but that was fine with you. As long as they knew there was someone here that they could come back to then you had accomplished your goal.

However you couldn’t actually run Cypress Park alone. It was why you were thankful for volunteers, both adult and student. Volunteers, like that charming young man called Daigo, allowed you keep going as age began to creep on you. The student volunteers were no less helpful, even if they were a bit of a handful at times. They were still children but they had their hearts in the right place so you didn’t really think you’d scold them too much. One of them, Saten, was one such example, both mischievous but perfectly capable of handling children as if she was their mother. It was a shame that she had an emergency today and left in a hurry. She had forgotten to put away a library book it seemed. On further examination you found that it was a bound black book that wasn’t actually part of Cypress Park’s library.

Well there was no helping it. You had to make sure it wasn’t anything that could be illegal or unsafe for children. The last time you found one you had to sit Kyril and his brothers down to explain what exactly they had found. It wasn’t that awkward but it was a bit exasperating given that they were in that phase where ‘cooties’ were a thing. As you retreated back to your office you wonder what became of such a darling child. True he always found ways to drive his ‘Aneue’ up the wall but it was really harmless fun. Last she heard was that he had been arrested by Anti-Skill a few days ago and then he was just hospitalised last night. Something must have gone wrong somewhere along the way since he left you lamented. He had been quick to move out as soon as he could along with his brothers. Honestly you were worried that he’d turn in to a murderer one of these days.

Turning back to the book, you open it to the first page. Clearly it wasn’t a diary if it wasn’t locked. The first page was the title, “Fowl Gods,” along with an autograph.

“To my number 1 fan Saten Ruiko, signed Heart-Under-Blade,” you read aloud.

Authors these days were, coming up with more and more ridiculous pen names. The first few pages revealed that it was a manga. There was nothing particularly wrong with that, even if the romance was between strapping young men. Then you turned to the next page and, oh my. You weren’t expecting a sudden development.

Well you had come this far, certainly you weren’t going to be too flustered to continue the story simply because the two young men were kissing. There was certainly nothing wrong with that. You’ve learn to be open-minded about these kinds of things. There were some girls here that seemed too friendly with each other. Well you couldn’t blame them given that one of the volunteers had such inclinations though you wish she was more subtle about it. Being troublesome to attract attention was a bit childish you think. Steeling yourself, you turn the page.

Oh my.

Well that certainly escalated quickly. You wanted to look away but for some reason you couldn’t. You flipped the page.

Oh, OH MY.

There’s a double page spread of the main character before the next chapter. He was receiving a pat on the head from his spiky-haired companion. The explicit pornography you could take but this was simply too lewd. This was much, much too lewd yet oddly compelling.

OH MY.

Now it was another who had taken him by force. Such violence was clearly unacceptable. Yet somehow, you thought the way the rapist held a lock of the main character’s hair was highly erotic.

Your heart pounding, you slump back down in your chair. An old lady like yourself could not possibly take more of this. Unfortunately someone had also decided to enter your office as soon as you collapsed. It was,

It was Saten, no doubt come to reclaim her book. Of course her first concern was to see why you were so faint. Then her eyes fell on to the lurid material on your desk and her eyes widened. You knew the expression forming on her face. It was the same kind that Kyril would have when you dressed him down, genuine shame. In many ways they were alike, expressive, mischievous, and much too precocious for their own good. You could continue reading later. Now it was time that you did your job. Saten was not living her life correctly.

“Saten Ruiko,” you started, “May I ask how you came in to possession of this book?”

You were patient and unflinching. She could take all the time in the world stuttering and trying to come up with an excuse but the consequences of her actions had been pre-ordained.

“And where may I acquire one of my own?”

Maman te manque. Contrôle à équipe magicien. Saviez-vous que le nom était une énigme? Quand écrivain et /tg/ se rencontrent, l’histoire se commence.
Je serai ici pour quelques heures alors n’hésiter pas à me demander une question.
