You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

You sit at the foot of your bed, your legs hanging off as you sit in your underwear. As your staff puts their faces on and gets ready for the day, Kitten dresses you like a squire armoring up his Knight. She buttons up your blouse, then puts your jacket onto you. Then she throws your skirt up your legs and zips it up tight.

You say, “Kitten. Feeling alright?”

Kitten nods, smiling. “Definitely.” She takes up a pair of black thigh highs and starts wrapping them up your legs. “Admittedly, I am a bit nervous, but I’m sure that’ll pass. We’ll win, right?”

“Sure,” you say. “We will. I can promise you that, Kitten.”

Kitten stops, kneeling in front of you on the floor, placing her hand on your knee. “Well, never make a girl a promise you can’t keep, you know?”

“Ah, don’t be so fatalistic,” you say. “It’s not like we’re going to die or anything.”

Kitten nods, sighing. “I suppose not. Let’s get out there and win, alright?”

“What can I say other than-“ You pump your fist. “Fuck yeah! We’ll have it in the bag, Kitten. Don’t you worry your pretty little head.”

Kitten grins, handing you your helmet and your binoculars. “Of course. Here.” You take it up, wrapping the binocular straps around your neck, then placing the helmet at your side.

Lisa yawns, fully clad in her Tankery uniform, goggles resting around her neck. “Right, can we get this show rolling then?”

Nancy nods. “Of course, let’s get some breakfast in us!”

With that, you and your crews head downstairs to have breakfast. All the crews chatter excitedly, some nervously about the match today. Everyone eats their fill, some packing on a bit too much like the Delinquents and the Magicians. Nervousness tends to beget nausea later. You sit around with your crew. Nancy pokes at her, looking a bit down, while Lisa and Ramirez stuff their faces. You share breakfast with Kitten.

> Talk with a Crew (Team Machina)

You ask the Theatre Tech girls on the camo paint as you leave.

“Well,” says Barkas. “We were able to outfit all the tanks with decent camo for the area. Dull greens and browns and the like. We didn’t do anything with your Sherman, the green’s pretty much fine for the area, heavy forests and all.”

You nod. “Alright. Thanks, Barkas.”

“No need to thank us,” she says.

With that, you arrive at the parking lot, where huge tank transporters are out and ready to take your tanks there. Manning them are ITL Judges and variable Black Forest Peak students.

One of them walks over, a short girl with circular glasses. “Are you Gertrude Pool?”

You nod. “Yeah, that’s me.”

“Nishizumi-sama has assigned me to take your tanks to the staging area,” she says. “She wishes to tell you good luck in the match.”

You smile. “Thanks!”

She says, “My advice though, if you’re sitting behind someone, don’t weave around them, it’s not fun.”

“Noted.”

You and your crew climb into the back of one of the huge tank transporters. The BFP student drives on, leading the rest of the transporters to the staging area. Nancy hums along to the tune of, “Amazing Grace.”

Nancy joins you, grinning. “That saved, a wretch, like me!”

The rest of the crew joins in.

“I once, was lost

Was blind, but now, I see!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdo2uqHVtrw

Your Transporter offloads your tank to its starting point and drives you, Kate, and Charlotte all the way to the main viewing area. Lots of large screen TVs have been set up for the match, and people from all over Spain have come to watch the venue.

“Charlotte,” you say. “Feeling alright?”

Charlotte nods, rubbing her stomach. “Probably shouldn’t have eaten so much for breakfast.” She looks over at you. “You know, Weiss vomited from sheer stress on the way here. I think she’s pretty nervous.”

Kate says, “Don’t worry. Keep yourself full, we might end up having to have lunch during the match.”

“Right,” you say. “Charlotte, just go with the plan, and stay frosty. Hopefully you can read maps now, right?”

Charlotte nods violently, groaning. “Wendy made fucking sure of that.”

You arrive at the stage with your officers, Kinuyo Nishi is across from you, talking with some of her officers as well, five of them even. The match doesn’t begin for another half hour so you got some time.

What Tanks do they want backing them up.

We know our team needs
the M4A1 Since it's Trude's tank
the Brumbar, 120mm Chi-ha,and the Stug since their assault guns/Arty
T-34 since it's a Flag

They can't get the Somua and the GMC since their scouts.

The only tanks available to them is

The Churchill
The Kv-85
The Hellcat
The Panzer 4

>>31260943
I still hold that the flag should stick with the Tiger up front. It will be safest there guarded by our strongest force where they can't be flanked by sneaky tanks.

It also dictates how CHT will move. They would have to engage rather then wheel around and go hunting, a position that we clearly have the advantage in.

You walk up to Nishi. “Hey, Nishi. Nice to see you again.”

Nishi smirks at you, crossing her arms. “Well, Gertrude Pool. Haven’t seen you in a while. Honestly didn’t think you’d make it past Walter Christie.”

You shrug. “Well, I try, you know? Want to take a walk around?”

Nishi nods, then says something in Japanese to her officers. They nod, allowing you to leave with their Commander. “So, Gertrude Pool. Is everything alright in your place?”

“Well,” you gesture lazily as you walk. “I’m pretty busy these days. It’s kind of stressful. You?”

Nishi says, “I am practically glowing! We are going to be participating in a very honorable sport. I imagine when we face Ooarai in the finals when it happens, this will be finally the year we win a title.”

You look sidelongedly at her. “You say that as if you’re going to win.”

“Well, yes,” says Nishi simply, pausing.

Yes I know they're at the front lines. This isn't war where a lucky shell can careen out of the sky and nail a schmuck, CHT would literally have to shoot through our other tanks to get at them. They're safer there rather then on our side of the river where all we have to defend against forded tanks is ourselves and 3 casemates.

The Tiger's unit won't be very mobile after crossing the dam. There's very little chance of CHT getting a shot at them from the sides or behind. If we use the flag to force them to engage in the open we've got them dead to rights.

All we have to do is hold their attention while Luciano and her girls go hunting and sandwich them in. Having the flag with us will make them spread out like water.
>>
>>31261219
Walter Christie did the thing you mentioned to Saunders.

Also the Chi-Ha is a turreted tank. So we have the Sherman, the Chi-ha, and only two casemates protecting it.

Also we're not crossing the dam, we're play defensively. Going on the offense will only drag us into their ambush tactics

You nod. “Glad to see you’re confident at least, Nishi. Hope we have a good game together, okay?”

She smiles, nodding. “I look forward to beating you.”

Okay, that’s getting annoying.

Regardless, it’s about five minutes to start time. You all rush down to the main stage where the judges have assembled all of the Officers. The three judges line up on stage.

“We are today’s judges!”

“Mary Kowalski!”

“Sumire Watanabe!”

“Denise Wilder!”

Kowalski says, “We will now begin the match between Lafayette Girls Academy commanded by Gertrude Pool versus Chi-Ha-Tan commanded by Kinuyo Nishi! Let there be no ill will or disrespect come towards these two teams!”

Watanabe says, “The match shall be a fifteen versus fifteen flag battle! First team to render the other team’s flag tank inoperable is the winner!”

Wilder says, “All rules in the standard ruleset apply!”

You gather up the Commanders. “Alright girls. For some of you, this is your first match in the tournament. I’m going to ask that the Sturmpanzer IV, the StuG, and the Chi-Ha roll with me. New kids will go with Kate towards the dam, that means you Juliette and Barkas. Cathy and Marina will head to Charlotte towards the center bridge.”

Samantha raises her hand. “Who should we go with?”

You say, “Stick with me until further notice. We’ll take the bridges first and see what’s what. If the coast looks clear, we’ll move in for the kill. For the new people, don’t be nervous, just stay calm.”

Weiss looks like she’s about to vomit again. Ballantine says, “Hey, Erika. Maybe you shouldn’t have had so much for breakfast.”

“It was free…” says Weiss.

You roll your eyes. “Keep it together and we’ll be safe. Mount up!” Everyone shouts and yells in excitement as they mount into their tanks. You climb up onto the turret and drop down into the Commander’s hatch, with the rest of your crew following soon after.

Nancy says, “Lord in heaven, help us.”

“God’s busy, Nancy,” says Lisa. “It’s on you, now.”

You look over at the sky. Waiting.

Then the flare shoots up, bursting in the sky in a great white star.

“Begin!” yells the Judges over the radio.

You pull up the radio. “Advance!”

Honestly, if they just openly advertised themselves as humanely ending the lives of suffering animals I might actually support them. For the amount of time and money it takes to save one animal you can end the suffering of a hundred.

The only thing hypocritical is the fact their attitude about it and everything else they do. Saving animals doesnt make you better than anyone, it makes you a waste of time and money. Killing animals doesnt make you better either, it makes you the cleanup crew, but at least it's not as bad as some kind of self-proclaimed saviour retard.

Want to really improve the world? Just ignore animals alltogether and focus on progressing humanity. If any kind of people is better than others, it's scientists, engineers and doctors.

The only thing that can make the world a better place is knowledge, and animals have none to share. Soon enough we won't need them anymore anyway, not even as a food source.

You think on it. You check the map. There are two good hills overlooking the center bridge. They might be good points to check any advances on the bridge, maybe even good points to set up the assault guns like the Sturmpanzer and the Short Barrel 120. “Janek, do you have any eyes on the bridge yet?” you ask.

“Not yet, we’re climbing the right hill so far. Nothing to note, we can’t see anything past all these trees,” says Janek.

“Same,” says Anna. “We can’t see them across the river. We’re taking the left hill.”

> Make an adjustment

“Janek, Anna, can you head over to the left, take that hill. We’ll set up on the right.”

“Righto!” says Janek. You can see her tank speeding down the right hill and up to the left.

You roll up on the right hill, the flag tank trailing behind you and the assault guns. The heavy guns have some trouble making it up, but with some patience and effort, they pull up just behind the crest of the hill, ready to pull over at a moment’s notice. Your tank pulls up onto the crest, allowing you the best field of view.

“This is Marina, we’re on the other end of the center bridge. Nothing so far.”

“Kate here, we’re still enroute to the dam, we’re running into a lot of trees and obstacles.”

“Same here,” says Barkas. “We’re almost there though, we’ll let you know when we arrive.”

Charlotte, Dales, and Cathy park right at your end of the bridge, angling their armor effectively against any frontal attacks.

Janek says, “We don’t see them, it’s pretty quiet.”

It's very odd. Our KV-85 was able to get over unhindered. It's true that they could be holding their fire though.

We'll need it to cross eventually. I don't envy trying to get the Churchill or KV to the other side in a timely manner without it.

Yeah, that's true. Even if it's a just a Shinhoto model against a KV, I had apprehensions with that isolated Dash, since Bearcat might not be skilled enough (yet) to match an Elite by themselves.

A question I'm throwing to anyone familiar with Spain. How dry is it there during November?
I noticed that the roads are pretty sparse, yet it seems neither teams have kicked up any dust clouds yet while moving around.

Makes me wonder if Chihatan is taking a slow, scenic route, seeing as how they aren't the first ones who secured the bridge.

Lisa and Kitten turn out of their hatches, leaning on their arms, resting. Lisa eats a sandwich that Nancy had prepared in case the match goes over lunch. Kitten says to her, “Are you really eating now? It’s not even the afternoon?”

Lisa shrugs. “Why aren’t you?”

“Well I’m not a glutton for one thing,” says Kitten. “Secondly, I can wait to eat.”

Lisa rolls her eyes and continues eating.

You check the map again, keeping the radio handy. “Kate, how’s it coming?”

Kate says, “Joanna’s putting Hobbes to the test getting onto the road, we’ll be there in another ten minutes.” You can hear Joanna shouting and swearing in the background.

So, no contact with Chi-Ha-Tan so far. You can guess that they’re probably waiting for you to advance in force or to send singular scouts for them to pick off. You look over to the left. Seems like a neat little flanking position, but through your binoculars you can see Janek has taken the initiative to roll down further down to the riverbend.

Fine then, you’ll allow it. Question is, where even are they?

“This is Kate, we’ve arrived at the dam. Barkas is right behind us.”

You pull up the radio eagerly. “Any contacts?”

“Nope.”

You frown, glumly putting the radio back and leaning back against the hatch. Ramirez has fallen asleep in the loader’s seat, Nancy is humming and fidgeting. Kitten and Lisa are playing tic-tac-toe on the top armor hatch.

You ask over the radio again. “Does anybody see anything?”

Everyone says nope and nah.

Your stomach growls. It’s been over an hour and a half since the match started and there hasn’t been any kind of engagement with the enemy. You look back at the Assault guns, their crews idling out of the hatches, talking with each other. “Hey,” you say. “Stay focused.” They pile back into their tanks immediately.

Actually.

“Dory, Weiss. Fire a couple of shots across the river, see what you can do.”

“Alright, time to test this bad boy out then!” says Dory. “Load it, Bradley!”

The Sturmpanzer fires, the recoiling sending it a few feet backwards down the hill. The shot travels slowly and lands among the trees on the other side of the river. Weiss does the same with her Chi-Ha, another shot rumbling the hill and rousing Ramirez out of her nap.

You look at the impact craters through your binoculars. “Nothing’s moving,” you say.

Luciano says, “I think I see something moving in the woods, north-north west-ish about half a kilometer out? Might be Chi-Ha-Tan.”

Janek says, “Yeah, I see it too. It’s an 89 I-Go.”

You scan the trees quickly, and soon you see the I-Go, covered in shrubs and bushes, rolling slowly towards the bridge.

You say, “Marina. Do you see that I-Go?”

Marina says, “Yeah, we’re training the gun on it. Want it gone?”

“As you will, Marina.” You observe the KV-85 fire a shot, the tracer zooming across the way at the I-Go. It stops, the shot blasting just in front of it. “Fuck!”

“Relax,” you say. “Don’t get worked up.”

Cathy says, “Can we attack them yet! We can take them!”

“Yeah!” says Dales.

“Steady people,” you say. “Try again, Marina.”

The I-Go swiftly dodges another shot from Team Bearcat as it begins backing away. “Damn it!” yells Marina. “He’s getting away!”

Cathy says, “To hell with it, let’s cross!” Their Churchill speeds past the Panther.

“We can take them!” yells Dales as the Sentinel rolls after the Churchill. They’re about to get to the bridge.

Kate says, “For once in her life, Michelle’s-“ There’s a huge bang that interrupts her. “Michelle’s having some trouble.”

“Dory, Weiss, Keegan, stay here with Samantha. Charlotte, you and me are going to cross the bridge in force, got it? Anna, Janek, you guys keep where you are on the riverbend, watch out for flanking maneuvers.” Everyone shouts their acknowledgement. “Alright, move!”

The Sturmpanzer IV and the Chi-Ha turn towards the dam, then open fire with their guns, sending their shells wildly in the general direction of Chi-Ha-Tan, none of their shots actually managing to hit.

Charlotte’s Panther has the thickest frontal armor and is the fastest, so she goes first, followed by Dales, followed by you, then by Cathy.

Kate says, “They’re falling back!”

“GODDAMN IT THEY’RE GETTING AWAY!” screams Michelle. Another bang echoes over the radio. “OH FUCK THAT CHI-RI!”

You are now across the bridge. What shall you do?

The Churchill, which is at the rear of the column, reverses as hard as it can. The Sentinel reverses faster, pushing into it as all your tank turrets point at the tanks on the hill.

“Nancy, target the Ho-Ni’s gun!”

“Right!”

The 76mm fires, the shot slamming right into the barrel of the Ho-Ni, bursting it open like a banana.

> WEAPONRY KILL: TYPE HO-NI III (COMP. SPEC.)

The bridge collapses, the Panther right on top of it, going right into the valley. The Delinquents scream as they’re dropped among the rubble. Your tank barely manages to escape it.

“Charlotte!” you scream as the Panther slams into the river, completely on its side.

> Hold position

“Alright, hold position there.” You turn out and yell, “Dory, Weiss, see if you can suppress them!”

The assault guns turn again, sighting in the dam. You look around, behind you are the Churchill and the Sentinel. To your left rolling around for a good fording port is Anna and Janek. On the hill are the Flag Tank, the StuG, the Sturmpanzer, and the Chi-Ha. That leaves the Panzer IV, the Tiger II, the Hellcat, and the M4A4 at the dam.

… Wait. You’re missing someone, and it’s not Charlotte.

… Where the hell is Marina.

“WHOOO!” scream the Aviation Club girls. You look at your binoculars to see the KV-85 dashing right in between all the Chi-Ha-Tan tanks, breaking their formation and causing them to stop, turning and pivoting in place in sheer confusion.

“WILDCARD, BITCHES!” yells Jenny. The KV-85 smashes a Chi-Ha Kai out of the way.

It's not meta gaming really. I'm pretty sure some tank commander has at some point let the newbie get in more shots on the enemy to get practice. Either by telling everyone else to hold fire or by sending in the new guy first.

That said, it's not a good idea here and now. We need to win this match. So ideally, we'd do that in practice matches.

So that they have a chance to support Kate or Marina, or at least disrupt any moves Chihatan will try to utilize.

Alas, I am unsure of the ranges that the Stupa and Chi-Ha are capable of, so this is mostly a rough layout. I certainly would like them to get a bit closer, but the valley dividing the two (yellow) might make their progress slow.

Patton had no real tank doctrine, and suffered highly for it.

Rommel in North Africa had less tanks, men, and pretty much everything but he got his men out because he knew when to fight.

Once a bridgehead is established, lighter tanks cross as well. Artillery stays behind with support. If heavy resistance is met then Kate advances on her side to split their forces.

Once our forces are across, we advance as normal. Light tanks go scouting, rest of force advances slowly towards dam. Artillery provides ranged support. Aim is to envelope Chi ha by pincering them between our forces and Kate.

You and your crew walk over to Nishi carefully. “Hey, Nishi,” you say. Nishi stops her shouting and looks over at you, red in the cheeks, angry. You offer your hand, smiling. “Good game.”

Nishi looks down at your hand, then scoffs, looking away and crossing her arms.

Lisa says, “Wow, real mature, bitch.”

One of Nishi’s officers nudges her in the arm. Nishi looks down at her, to which the Officer scolds her in Japanese. Nishi sighs, then quickly shakes your hand. “Good game,” she says to you quickly. “Now if you excuse me, we must be going.” She brushes past her officers.

One of her officers says to you, “Don’t give Nishi-sama too much trouble. She’s just really frustrated with our failures. She always blames herself for it.”

You ask, “Why’s that?”

Another one of the officers says, “In Chi-Ha-Tan’s Senshadou program’s existence, we’ve never been able to win a match.”

Nancy asks, “How long has that been?”

“When were the nukes dropped?”

Okay, that’s actually kind of sad. Regardless, you say goodbye to the officers and wish them farewell. You walk back to your crews, whom are all happy and excited at having won another match in the tournament.

That's actually an incredibly good idea, I feel bad for not thinking of that.

So to retcon then, we have the Robert A. Heinlein Match, the match against William Adams, Walter Christie, the Practice match against Saunders, and now Chi-Ha-Tan.

Participation will confer a flat 5% regardless of role or things done.

Yes I know, hence my statement that I would go along with the majority from now on. Apologies for what happened before.

The idea is things don't go FUBAR. So long as the plan is meticulously prepared then casualties are at a minimum.

William Adams would have been fine if people stuck to the plan. Which was to assault the river and hold the bridgehead. But somehow people thought the plan was to sit on our side and let them come to us.

>>31266014
If we're talking about Kate then she doesn't need to hit, just surround them. There will be time to wipe them out when they have no where to run.

If you're talking about us, then that's why we have the scouts to look/blunder on the ambush while the heavier tanks keep their front armor to the enemy.

It seems like a lot sure, but that will only get our first few crews up to elite status with assurance. Given our newer crews down the line will have less, it gives the option of trying to get them to elite as well, albeit it might be hard.

I'd point out we're a little behind. Last time we looked at Pravda they had a third elite. There was Nonna's IS-2, Katyusha's KV-2 and a random T-34/76 that had an elite crew.

We are going to play 2 more matches before the finals plus 2 or so more practice ones hopefully. Our 8 other crews from the first tournament match are near guaranteed to Elite if we keep up with regular training and hand everyone a book.

We also need to use Wendy until she gives us a Command Perk, so that's a bit of extra EXP.
>>
>>31266234
They already carried their elite status in from earlier, and that T-34 crew was probably already close to elite at the end of the last season.

Without basis in fact, I want to say that we're ahead of the curve. having several crews go from nothing to elite in a single season? That's pretty insane.
>>
>>31266280
Our newer crews didn't participate in the other matches, so their exp bump decreases

“Go! Go! Go!” All the loaders cheer on the two loaders having a drinking contest, with soda of course. These two loaders happen to be Wendy Kniep and Jane Bradley. They drop their cans, smashing them into the table flat.

Jane grabs her chest, burping a little. “Oh, oh boy. Excuse me!”

Wendy’s burp is so loud that it briefly silences the place. Wendy looks around, pink in the cheeks. “Ah, sorry. Excuse me.” Everyone bursts into laughter, patting Wendy on the back and the shoulders as they bring in more soda. That can’t be healthy.

Regardless though, the rest of the place is full of life and vigor. The Freshmen play some music with their instruments. The Ace Crew have a nice chat with the rest of the Girl Scouts and the Aviation Studies Club about their wildcat attitude, and the Delinquents all laugh and chat happily as they compare bruises from their fall. Even the BFP girls are in amongst, Erika deciding to join in on the soda drinking contest against Wendy.

Nancy says, “Everyone seems so happy!”

“Well,” says Lisa. “No shit.”

> Talk to Maho

You sit down next to Maho, Miho, and Akaboshi. “Hey, Maho. Enjoying yourself?”

Maho nods. Akaboshi is about to say something, but Maho cuts her off. “You performed well against Chi-Ha-Tan,” she says in her thick Japanese accent.

You smile. “Thanks, and also thanks for the advice you gave me. I suppose that was really crucial stuff you know?”

Maho says, “Battles can be won with but a single word I suppose. I am just glad you took my words to heart. You have great potential.”

Miho says something in Japanese, to which Akaboshi translates it as, “Nishizumi-san tells you that she looks forward to your future matches, and that she hopes you will cheer her on during her match against Robert A. Heinlein on Monday.”

“We’ll see,” you say. “Go ahead and enjoy yourselves,” you say as you stand to leave. You look over to see Erika chugging a two liter bottle of Sprite while staring Wendy dead in the eye. All the loaders look on, amazed.

“How does she do that?” says Elouise.

“I don’t know, it’s like she doesn’t know when to lose,” says Bradley.

You walk over to your crew. Nancy says, “Like you requested, we’re looking up local teams to spar with when we arrive at Australia.”

“Thanks,” you say.

Okay guys, we should talk about the Somua.

It's currently the second worst tank in our lineup operated by one of our best crews. To be clear, it can't sustain any significant damage, it can't put rounds downrange like our other tanks, and it only moves as quick as a typical medium.
The thing is arse and the S40 doesn't solve that.

The S40 was a project that intended to cheapen production, shore up shoddy manufacturing standards, add a stronger engine, and improve suspension. It didn't touch it's armour or the 47mm gun. The end result was a tank that could climb better and would move 45km/h rather then 40km/h. We don't need this.

The SAu is a casemate assault vehicle armed with a 75mm cannon, similar armour to the S35, and a stronger engine. Sounds kind of nifty, right? From what I could find, it would be equipped with the Canon de 75 mm type APX. According to
>http://france1940.free.fr/armee/otdb1.html
it could penetrate 50mm of armour at 1000m.
I invite you to compare it to our StuG III which has a 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 and is built off of the PzIII chassis rather then the underpowered and underarmoured S35. We don't need an underperforming assault gun either.

There's nothing we can do with the Somua. Keeping the Somua isn't good for the team and upgrading it is an active detriment as the freebie can be better spent.

(cont.)
>>
>>31266544
We need to put our great crew in a great tank. We're getting a Chaffee soon, a vehicle that crews normally with 4. With Octavia's bonus, we can reduce that undermanned penalty.
Now I'm not necessarily saying that's where they should go, it's just a suggestion, but we definitely shouldn't field the S35 next round. No matter what angle you look at it, it's just bad when we could have better.

We could sell it and spend the money elsewhere or keep it around as a trainer since we're trying to drop the Chi-Ha, it doesn't really matter to me. I'd be happy even just leaving them alone in the S35 and not touching them again. Anything's better then upgrading it.

Please reconsider your plans for the tank.

>inb4 keeping crews happy is important

Mechanically, there's no long term penalty. They can take a morale hit, they'll get re-familiarized with the tank. If Schteel reveals there's a permanent EXP loss, which there's no indication of, even that hardly matters.
There's plenty of time to Elite and it will be made easier with a gun that can engage more targets then the 47mm could.

Talking as if this were reality it still doesn't matter. They're on a sports team, we're managing them for their and our own benefit.
People don't sulk forever. After a while they realize it hardly mattered at all. Trying to coddle the people you manage is to everyone's detriment; nothing gets done and bad decisions are allowed to slide because you're terrified of making someone upset.

There is no fucking issue with them switching tanks.

A practice or two of re-adjustment? Reversible morale loss?

Morale loss isn't even guaranteed. They'd probably like to have a tank that can hang with late war units.

Please stop using that as an excuse.

Leaving the S35 as it is is only prolonging the problem. Prune the plant so it can flower properly, damnit. Get rid of a weak tank and put them into a more powerful unit so they can do more for the team.

>>
>>31266743
Maybe not but that's exactly what it sounds like to me. There is no "problem" with keeping them in the Somua. The Somua has already made 3 kills and unlike the Stuart, there is no real pressing need to upgrade it.

Drive both a Trueno (S35 comparison) and an Impreza (Cromwell, Chaffee, whatever comparison).
They'll see the difference in performance and judge for themselves.
>>
>>31266879

Well the chi-ha is slated to be sold off. We're gonna see if we can get CHT interested in it.

Did we get their number? We should ask Maho if she has Nishi's number.
>>
>>31266869
It's a pretty shit scout; half of our mediums move faster then it.

You know, that and it can't engage anybody reliably. Did you see what Janek could do in the Scott this match? Wouldn't it be nice to have more then one scout capable of providing fire support?
>>
>>31266903
you are wrong it is not dead weight since a scout is never dead weight for good Intel wins everything
>>
>>31266879
I think the Chi-Ha should be removed from ITL match roster as well.

I don't care if we keep it, I just don't think it's reasonable to keep in play.
>>
>>31266903

How is it deadweight though?

Tell me when it wasn't effective in our matches to far, and looking at the matches ahead, their are no real teams that make this completely obsolute.

Also considering it's a scouting tank, it's not there for the fighting.
>>
Not too shabby
>>
>>31266953
It's not a scout. It's a medium tank with a larger silhouette of average speed and average cross-country mobility.

What the hell, man?

That's largely due to Janek and her team, which are all very talented. Had we put Janel in the Somua, things would have gone similarly.

“Bonjour, ma soeur. What’s up?”

“You won against Chi-Ha-Tan!”

“Griselda, please put Dad on before he embarrasses himself again.”

“Too late, he’s already out in the street. Hold on, I’ll catch up to him.” There’s a pause as Griselda huffs and puffs after a cheering Dad. “Daddy! It’s Gertrude!”

Dad answers the phone. “You won! You won again! It’s nothing but winning with you! It’s so great! Why are you so great?”

“Because Mom gave birth to me?”

“That’s right! Jesus Christ! One second.” Dad’s voice gets a little muffled as he yells. “Hey, Asshole! My daughter is still better than yours!” His voice returns to normal. “Haha! But seriously, I’m so proud of you, Gertrude. Good luck in the next few matches, we’re rooting for you!”

Griselda takes the phone back. “Yeah, we all are! Good luck!”

“Will do,” you say. “Also, one second.” You lean over to Maho and Miho, whispering into their ears something devious. You get back to the phone. “Listen, some acquantices of mine are going to call you later, okay? Okay.”

“Right, love you Gertrude!”

“Love you, Sis.”

It's not a "scout." Calling it a scout doesn't make it a scout, much like me calling a cat a dog doesn't suddenly make my cat a dog.

It's deadweight because any future matches will put it up against tanks who will be able to very easily damage (mobility, weapons, or even total kill) it while the Somua will generally be unable to return fire in a meaningful way.

The 47mm was a pretty good gun...early war. Note how I said early war.

Once the mid-war Panzer 3s and Panzer 4s started rolling out it was demonstrated how outclassed the 1930s to early WWII tanks were.

It's not completely obsolete - it's just effectively so. A T-34-42 or -43 or -44 with its improved 76mm, or a -57, or -85, or Panzer 4 starting from F2 and on, or a Sherman with its 76mm, or a Commonwealth tank with their 6pdr or 17pdr, etc.

The list of weapons that can penetrate the Somua is much longer than the list of tanks that the Somua can reasonably engage, which is made even worse due to the compeitition-aspect of tankery, where everyone fields the very highest achieving/"best," tanks that WWII produced.

it isn't competing against early panzer 1s or panzer 2s. It's competing against late-war Panzer 4s, or T-34s, or Panthers, or Shermans, or Commonwealth tanks, etc.
>>
>>31267007
No, anon.

Cavalry tanks were those meant to go fast and engage other tanks.

Infantry tanks were the ones that rolled with the infantry and used large-caliber high explosive shells to explosively demolish fortified positions, machine gun nests, etc.

Please, Anon? C'mon man. I'm not asking you to do anything unreasonable.

Erika throws down her 2-liter of soda, the third one. She’s red in the cheeks, apparently somehow drunk off of soda. “I am not finished, you American…” She lazily points at Wendy. “American… FUCK!”

Wendy nods, casually throwing away her fifteenth 2-liter. “Sure. Just so you know, I’m probably going to be really depressed tomorrow, I cut out soda entirely from my diet until just today.”

Erika says, “I tell you something! I won’t lose to…” She slams her head down on the table. Defeated. All the loaders cheer. Several BFP students tend to her quickly. You also stop by to get a quick autograph from Maho and Miho, they have some pretty neat English style signatures too. You give it to Ramirez to mail to Griselda.

Thusly, you and Kitten walk home together. Kitten smiles, humming happily. You say, “You’re in a good mood.”

“Of course!” says Kitten. “We won! How about that, you know?”

“Well,” you say. “I have to say, it was a pretty easy win. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next.”

Gimmick teams has nothing to do with it. You argue that the Somua will become useless because it will face mid to late-war tanks such as the M4 Sherman and the Cromwell, but the Somua has in fact faced against them and not only has it proved to be able to get by, it got 3 kills just fine.

And I'm not suggesting putting them into a tank that would require a crew of 20 to operate effectively.

I'm saying there are plenty of 4-man tanks out there that do what a Somua did (standard medium tank designed for a wide variety of engagements), but in a package that improves speed, protection, and projection of force.

Couple of options just off the top of my head: Firefly, T-34-85. Both very high performing tanks, can more or less reliably engage nearly anything they might come across. Crews of 4, Octavia training.
>>
>>31267235
>Bunker with the tsundere meganekko barmaid
>>
>>31266914
In a manner of speaking.

I just want these endless arguments to stop as they're really inconsequential overall. The best idea I have to stop that is to give them two tanks. Let them love both tanks and learn to drive both tanks then there's no morale loss and we can have a better tank too.

It also fits in well with the money problem argument. We'll only do this if every other aspect of our team has been maxed out. At that point, don't bother switching the tank, just give them another one and call it a day. Shit every other team does it, so can we.

Seeing how much of a Tankery fangirl Griselda is, at some point she is gonna ask Miho about a certain Japanese festival dance that she and her crew performed in.
>>
>>31267262
It was pressed into "scouting," service when the free French operated with the Allies because it couldn't reliably engage P3s/P4s, and because Heer anti-tank guns would quickly and easily knock it out.

Any success it had at being a scout was unintentional in regards to its design and construction.

>>31267253
Because the teams we have faced are, literally, not good. This is objective because this is Lafayette's first season, with a mishmash of tanks bought by mad(wo)men (Anon).
>>
>>31267293
What's irritating is that the Somua has done really well and we have other thing to concern ourselves with,

Also against late war teams have their own gimmick tanks, or tanks that the Somua can still fight and has been an effective scout regardless of what people say otherwise.

You clink glasses of milk with Kitten. “To victory,” you both say.

“And to LGA,” you say. Kitten smiles at that, then you both drink up. You’ve dressed down out of your Tankery Uniform and into your blouse and one of Kitten’s boxer shorts. Kitten herself has done the same, switching the boxers for panties however.

Kitten says, “Gotta says, Trudy. The more we progress into this tournament, the more I’m honestly believing we can win it.”

You look at her, confused. “You seriously thought we were going to lose?”

“Couple of times,” says Kitten. “Like at the bridge, further back there was also that moment of chaos with Walter Christie. Then that one time with Adams when we got overturned.” She looks down, placing your and her glasses at the end table by the bed. “I’m sorry, Trudy. I really am.”

It's just that some anons are insistent on that subject and are overblowing the situation, yes I agree we should upgrade it to something better but since it is already capable for the time being, we should focus on getting more crews and tanks first, with upgrading the Somua being something that should be done once the former have been taken care of.

Again, that's a familiarization BONUS. Bonus.

Flat bonus that comes and goes. It doesn't take long to get that bonus back.

And then, oh wow, it's back.

Also: It's only a flat number - it's possible for a crew to be so experienced that they're at 100+ WITHOUT the familiarity bonus, see Kate & Pals for evidence of this.

Yes, it can matter, but at a certain point it doesn't.
>>
>>31267572
But they only lose the familiarity bonus if moved to a different tank, the bonus still remains if we just upgraded it to another tank like with the Poles and the Scott iirc

>>31267582

Repeat this chain until we have 20 tanks.

>>
>>31267734
Firefly and T-34-85 are 4 man crews. This is unrelated. If Needlepoint wants to compete at a higher level they're going to need to recruit at least one more member. It is entirely fair to compare medium tanks to medium tanks.

Speak to them about it if you have strong feelings. >>31267753
>>
>>31267734
The Somua isn't a scouting tank either, dude. A Cromwell, a Sherman, a Panzer III could do it's job better and be able to engage other tanks like the Scott.

Now, that other guy is crazy for wanting to jam them in a 5 crew vehicle, but 4 crew should be entirely fine.

Also, they'd get that bonus back pretty fast. Our new crews have managed to achieve it only after a few practices.

>>31267771
Or we could just not use the S35. I think that's a better solution, ya?
>>
>>31267721
>what is the looking for more crews subquest
Some tanks need more than 3 crews, also, you are needlesslly fucking up Needlepoint by moving them to a new tank everytime we buy one according to your plan, Also we fuck them up by having them learn from a new tank from scratch everytime.

How about this,
We keep Needlepoint in the Somua until We have at least 20 tanks
At that point, we either upgrade the Somua, or we buy a fast 3-4 man crew light tank.
For the latter option, if we can afford it, have them try out the new tank, but don't move them there yet so they don't get upset, once the get familiar with it, we can transfer them with minimal fuss.

>>
>>31267898
Okay, now that you've cleared that up, I could agree to that, the next step would be to actually find a 3-4 man scout tank with a decent anti-tank capability. But I still maintain that it's a low-priority thing and should be done after we complete a 20-tank roster.

That's not compromising, the main reason for the argument is that the Somua is only effective with Needlepoint using it
>>
>>31268011
Chaffee can't really challenge tanks. It can beat up other, similar light tanks and any self-propelled guns, but that's about it.

It's good for being a scout, and terminating enemy scouts. It's not a combat vehicle in and of itself.

>>31268009
They haven't really shown any special connection to it like the poles did. Possibly 3 practices? Doubtful it'd be 4.
>>
>>31268031
curse me to quote wikipedia... but:
>Crew
>4 sometimes 5 (Commander, gunner, loader, driver, co-driver/radio operator)The co-driver sometimes acted as the loader and the loader wasn't needed.
>>
>>31268009
>What about the fight with Saunders?
In that match they acted as a medium, not a scout. They shot with our other tanks and 'stole' the kill.

>or Walter Christie?
Coming up on the flank of a thinly armoured vehicle? Well that just proves the Somua can contend with competent tanks then, huh?

>>31268031
Could be operated very well with 4. Again, other teams do undermanned by one.
>>
>>31268063
What you're saying is "The somua is only good because it has a good crew. Without its crew, it's a turd."

That's what Anon's been saying for the 200 posts.
>>
>>31268011
We need to expand our choices though, the Chaffee can apparently function on only 4 crewmembers, I think that it's stretching it, even with Octavia's bonus.

>>31268063
>>31268088
I have no idea what that anon's problem is but he makes it look like a Somua killed his family.
>>
So who do you think will win between Miho and Ace? I'm suspecting Miho.
>>
>>31268088
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm getting sick and tired of the same one or two anons spending every single thread bitching about how we don't look or act like Kuromime. Fantasy Tank League isn't even half the point of this Quest.

Yuri ship-teasing is at least 60%, after all.
>>
>>31268070
If it was a crew of 4, I'll give it to you, but it's mute if we have a crew of three
>>
>>31268143
I'm inclined to think that this isn't even worth betting on, but with Schteel having BFP getting their shit trashed by Kursk, I'm not even sure anymore.
>>
>>31268186
I'm pretty sure he just does a coin flip if I remember correctly, but it would be surprising if Ace beat a team entirely composed of Elite crews.
Oarai also just flat-out feels like a 'final boss' too.
>>
>>31268065
You want to ask them? We asked the Polish and they disagreed.

>>31268080
A 4 man crew operating a 5 man tank makes sense though, your suggesting 3 man crew operating a 5 man tank.

>>31268156
Don't start with that, I rather take the tank arguement over this shit
>>
>>31268183
I'd more concerned how Needlepoint do it.
Its clear we'll have Gunner and Driver... but if we only keep Loader then we'll blind and mute. Commander/Loader is not very effective either.

...Unless we have one more crew (maybe freshman interested in sewing and join them?) we might better hold off this talk.
>>
>>31268285
Then we're messing up both crews.

Decent Idea compared to the other spreading around but one of the things about tank crew is that they prefer their own crews
>>
>>31268183
>>31268245
>>31268285
Maybe we could wait for Tuesday and see what comes up the shop.
Alternatively, we research for an alternative 3-crew light tank, and ask if Perrine can get one for us

>>31268308
I think he meant a freshman (not from our Freshman Crew, but a different one)
>>
>>31268336
3-crew lights are early war garbage. The Somua is closer to a medium then a light, so look for a 4-crew medium.
>>
>>31268308
sorry, i don't mean our freshman.

>>31268336
this, i mean entirely new girl. Heck, maybe we can use sewing club quest to gather more member for their club too.

There must be at least ONE girl in school interested in fashion and sewing
>>
>>31268336
>>31268363
If the Chaffee is a bust, the only things decent they can crew are a T-34 or another Scott.

Short of either of these, we'd be better off leaving them in the S35.
>>
>>31268506
We could also try to see if the Sewing Club can recruit another member, giving us a 4-man crew and thus expanding our choices, dunno if Schteel would even allow that though.
>>
>>31268583
We could also just ask Octavia if the three of them can operate a Chaffee. It's still not really clear, though I'm leaning to no.
>>
This is probably going to get ignored, but there's a bunch of little stuff I'd like to see done.

Upgrading the Pz IV and Stupa only costs 11k total and the Comp-spec of the Sherman is 5k.

This should probably be out of pocket, meaning only gaining a total of 14k on Monday, but I personally think it would be worth it.

I'd also like the Stug III to get upgraded, but that's 14.5k and I see more people arguing about that.
>>
>>31268725
We still need to buy the Chaffee. I think we're doing that with our money rather then sponsorship.
>>
>>31268753
We have 9k I believe, so 39k-11-20=8k~.

That's why I said the Stug is more of an issue, it's not that much of an upgrade as far as I can tell and it's rather expensive.
>>
>>31268806

2k actually.

We paid a large part of the 9.9k for the hotel.
>>
>>31268862
Oops, yeah. I guess that would leave us a little low on cash.

But again, just saying what I'd like to see done.
>>
>>31268891

We wonr have wnough money for everything though.

I'd suggest we buy the chaffee offhand and wishlist the cromwell.

The we can com spec the vintage sherman first.

Thay leaves us with 6.9k. Enough for some discretionary expenses if we need to unless we sell off the 120mm and net abit more cash to spend.
>>
>>31268506
There's also the BT-7 with a comparable gun and faster speed, the IS-1 which nobody wants despite it being a good idea, the SU series but that would be dumb, the experimental Pz.Sfl. II which looks pretty nifty, the Tetrarch with a comparable gun and way faster speed, the Vickers 6-Ton which is similar to the Tetrarch, and the Valiant which would be slow as shit but otherwise decent~ish.

Ya, not many choices for Needlepoint.
>>
>>31268862
We have 7k we made money on the Girl Scouts. But seriously we have other tanks to worry about and we're still with the Somua. Honestly I feel next time we get practice we'll have people try and stuff then into a five man tank just to get rid of it like thy did the Stuart
>>
>>31268971
>Valiant Tank
What team Needlepoint do to deserve it????

I'd rather hope we can get new member for sewing club so we can get more flexibility on assigning Team Neddlepoint.
>>
>>31269037
I'm going to love recruiting junior council I swear. Well at least we're not replacing it anytime soon
