You are Nick Trimmers, Dimensional Mystic and Barber. You recently spent a few months on Arsenal settling in and acclimating yourself to your powers and the world you were in. However, after an evening of drinking with Axmel and receiving a token of his appreciation, your wanderlust returned and you set right out. Grabbing your old hiking gear along with your new emergency unit, you opened a portal to the unknown and stepped through..

Stepping forth into the material world, you find yourself bombarded by a suffusion of life and vibrance from the forest you appear within.
The sky seems brighter, the colors more lively, the earthy smells richer by far than the cold forest of you homeland.

Even without taking the time to attune yourself to learn more about this realm, you can feel that it is a powerful nexus of primal elemental energies.

Breathing deeply of the rich fresh air, you know you are in for a pleasant hike today. As the portal closes you ponder which way to start. Deeper in to the woods, perhaps toward the mountains over there, or ma-

Don't recall it being mentioned at the time, but you have tended to try making a habit of that.
Effectively, your practice of stealth portals allows you to have extra margin of success on the portal roll as a penalty on any detection rolls if you aren't putting extra effort into it. Extra effort could make it harder form the portal initially, but make less impact were it does go.

>>31229623
You stand still as the giant of dirt and stone rises next to you.
>7
Being scared shitless can certainly help with that.

After a moment though, you feel the strength to speak up, and it hasn't tired to squish you yet, so you take a stab at talking to it.
"Well, you seem like a nice chap, maybe I could interest you in a moss and lichen trim?" you venture.

The earthen being shifts with a noise like tumbling gravel and seems to regard you.
You aren't getting so much a language that you can understand or speak through your ability, but you do seem to be getting a sense of intelligence and purpose from it, deeper than you could get from simple body language.
At the moment it seems to be observing you with a a passive curiosity and, worryingly, a readiness to respond with violence.

>Try to tune in to your linguistic ability to keep your own body langauge to something it would see as non-threatening

You relax yourself into a loose posture and just kind of let yourself hang there passively for a moment, trying to feel much like a loose pile of rubble yourself.
The elemental seems to focus on you less, and you feel that the ready threat of violence seems to be lifted for the moment.
"Perhaps a polishing? I think i could manage a fairly decent on if you were interested."

For the most part, it seems your words affect it little, but at least your friendly demeanor seems to be coming across.
Which is good, since you begin to realize the one that got up might not be the only presence here, as it begins to move around, other stones and mounds rattle more than the vibration from its steps should cause.

You slowly back away from the ambling mound, just in case, gesturing to yourself as you do so.
"Oh, by the way, I'm Nick- ohshi-"
You stumble in your backing away as a small bit of earth and leaves almost gets underfoot, but you manage to avoid stepping on it or falling over.
"Sorry about that- Where was I? Ah yes, I meant to say Nick Trimmers, I'm Nick Trimmers. How are you? ..Tell you the truth I was surprised to see you, we don't get many earth elementals where I'm from..." Never heard of one there, but you've learned enough to be aware of them, beings of raw elemental spirit. You're pretty sure that is what you are dealing with here, and the vibes you're getting from the dimension make it feel like this would be a natural place for them to reside. You'd have to take a few moments to meditate to confirm it, but you'd wager from your knowledge of the megaverse that this might be the Central Plane of Elements.

However, before you can ponder this information further, something slams into your metaphysical senses like a sledge hammer. A portal opening, and not like any you've felt before. This one feels.. much more violent than any opened by a yourself or a practitioner of magic. Definitely incoming to this plane, you'd say about a mile down the line at the next nexus.

Anyway we don't want to ignore the next dimensional outbreak or what have you, hope to see you again and maybe you'll go in for that wax I'm sure it would look very stylish..."
Keeping up the gentle banter you make your way to about 500 feet out, "Well than.. take care!"
Then begin dashing in that direction, even as you feel the pressure grow stronger. Fortunately, with your hiking experience, the uneven terrain is no problem for you as your fine boots keep solid footing, even as some of the plants and rocks stir.

Through the trees ahead, you can make out a larger hill at the nexus point, thickly covered in trees slowly dancing with each other.

Finally though, the pressure breaks, and you can feel a wave of disruption that you swear should knock you over, save that it is only in the fabric of the reality.. Soon though a very physical tremor fills the air and ground and you sense, more than you can clearly see, the opening of a great sucking rift within the hill- and the hill screams.

Charging ahead, ducking through brush and angry elementals, you make your way down into the area of disruption, dodging an errant swing from an upset bundle of plant-life and leaping over a sudden chasm that develops in front of you.
Sparing a glance downward, you see more of the tendrils and heavier tubes sifting through the underground. Seems it digs deeply.

Now within range, you can see the gateway through the crack in the earth, armored figures and strange equipment having taken root around the oversized vortex, heavy mechanisms somehow drawing minerals and gemstones out of the soil around it to be sucked in along with struggling elementals.

You steady yourself and begin drawing on the power here to fuel your spell of Closing.
You may not know what is going on here, but it does not seem right.

As you spend your time bringing the energies together, sharp tendrils land the ground around you, but you hardly need to move to avoid them.. however, as the magic nears completion, one of the figure entrenched around the vortex sights you through the crumpling ground between you and shouts something before pointing a weapon as you immediately firing. Fortunately, it seems the clouds or dust from their work affects his sights enough that you just manage to evade the bolt of blue-white energy that wizzes past you.

Before anything else happens though, your spell completes..

The 19 was the rift's save vs magic, which against you was a 16. It didn't have a good chance of holding, but it did.

>>
>>31234178
Also, I realized I may not have made it clear that you are close enough that you are drawing energy from the nexus toward your casting, and haven't cast anything that would reach into your personal PPE yet.

Also, I must report that I have made a straight up mistake. While double checking on the casting time fore World Bizarre I was reminded that Close Portal is a third level spell under Spatial Magic, as opposed to _fourteenth_ for everyone else.
What does this mean for you?
It means you can cast it in a single action instead of taking a full round, which meant you needed less defensive rolls last round, so we're going to go ahead and count those extra successful rolls for this round. Also that you can cast on the move.

At your words, he gives a look to one of the others and he nods and gestures for others to follow him, and then half of them launch into the air, heading in the direction you indicated.
He turns to regard you again, in the distance behind him see the ground force approaching still.
"They are stripping the this plane of it resources and murdering the immortal embodiments of the natural forces, destroying them to fuel their mad endeavors!" he states, a fire in his voice as he responds.

(Will probably wrap up after this next one, fading pretty hard now, starting to have trouble stay focused on word-making and wakefulness.)

"That sounds horrible." Nudge the guy underfoot. "Anything you'd like to say in your defence?"

The one underfoot coughs as you refresh the effect on him and question him.
"We do what we must to save our universe, This place in nothing but an unclaimed wealth or resources, and we have laid claim to it. Do not interfere!"
Lowell doesn't seem to follow the conversation with the one underfoot, but agrees with your first statement, "Yes, it is a horrible thing that War has come to the homes of the elements. We few that know work with out Brothers" he pats the tree "to do what we can to protect them from this insane threat.."

Oh, goody, moral quandaries. Which side will Nick choose? Will he fight? Will peace be found while bad hair persists?
But really, what's the tech level of Lowell's people?

Sure thing.

>Oh, goody, moral quandaries. Which side will Nick choose? Will he fight? Will peace be found while bad hair persists?
Indeed. Choices will have to be made, and, in fact, the situation might be more dire than Mr. Trimmers might suspect at the moment.

>But really, what's the tech level of Lowell's people?
The group Lowell has with him seems to be a bit of a mix of races, but most that you see seem to dressed simply in robes or tunics (though some are of higher quality than others) and among those with weapons it looks like sword and staff are the order of the day.
A closer look at your opponent shows that he's clad in full body armor, possibly environmentally sealed, though it is far less sleek than what you've seen in Arsenal. Also, judging from your time in Axmel's shop and the looks of some of the gold and silver leads at the joints, it has techno-wizardry of some sort included in its design, and the gun in your hand is definitely TW in nature.

>Sure thing.
Thanks.

I'll be floating around today if there are any questions/comments. Feel free to stop in.
