My people, to me! It is now the Sacred Time, and we tell the history of our clan in keeping with the old tradition. In the previous year, the Avaltvar tribe partnered with the Malani and Culbrea tribes to construct the town of Hoddmimis, named after the forest where the survivors of the Fimbul-winter will wait out the storm. The clan made two attempts to forge peace with the Jenesti in recognition for their role as the head of the Malani tribe, both of which failed.
Feels like it's been months since we last had one of these.>thread 25 was 2014-02-26Balls.Here's where we left off. Our numbers look good, except the sheep are overcrowded as usual.
We're approaching the end of our playthrough, having constructed our town and successfully met with the Telmori wolf-men. Wouldn't be surprised if we finished the game in the near future.Normal harvest and low pig birth. Have we ever used pigs for anything, even an emergency food source? I can't recall.
In keeping with clan tradition, Orgard reaches Heroic Combat.
As promised, the Telmori come to negotiate peace. What do we offer them in exchange for them not fighting?According to Elusu, since they're winning the war they're less interested in an end to the fighting, and none of the other council members suggest offering a treasure. If we choose to offer cattle, we'll be able to offer a lump sum or yearly tribute.
>>31226721Shit, it's land isn't it? The bastards want our land.
> I_don't_even_know_these_people.jpgDamn, how long it's been since I last checked a Fimbulvetr thread.
>>31226819Is that a question or a statement?>>31226905Ah right, recap. Basically the Telmori are werewolves cursed by one of the chaos gods. The ones in Dragon Pass are winning a war against two Orlanthi tribes (the ones we're not allied with, I believe).Having recently negotiated a peace settlement, we're looking to do the same here for fame and glory and kingdom making.Any other questions?
>>31226721Promise to stop attacking them, since that's how peace is supposed to work. It wouldn't be much of a peace if we kept attacking, would it?
>>31226721Are we actually doing that poorly against them? Last thread I checked in on, we were kicking tail.
>>31227060We're a neutral third party. The Orlanthi are the losing side.
>>31227016This is the MAIN thing we're offering. The peace is a given since these are peace talks.
All right, it's one vote for land and one vote for peace. Next vote will be the tie-breaker.
>>31227137Land, unquestionably.
>>31227014Well I was referring to the rogues gallery down there, they're all unfamiliar faces.
I don't like that we've had to give up land, but it was the right call, and we've now got peace.>>31227146There should be a few familiar faces. Elusu's been king for over half of our threads, and Leika's been around about as long. She is pretty old now.
Here's some news about the Culbrea tribe. Seems the old king retired to be an artist.
>>31227197Oh yeah Elusu I remember, last time I was around was when Everpsring was formed.
And with that we can finally start making some decisions. Two actions for the season: Sending out an exploration party and exploring the tula will happen unless someone remembers a need to do something else.>>31227232You missed us finishing the other heroquests and replacing the clan ring. I'd suggest reading the thread where Orstalor dies, and the last two in the archive. That's the important stuff.
>>31227271Explore!
>>31227271Explore stuff.Gotta wait for the rest of the endgame to trigger, now.
We send our handsome and good looking Uroxi to explore over Eastwards. At the same time, here's our current boundary. Note that there's a piece missing in the middle. Jackass wolves couldn't take the end piece so we wouldn't have to patrol as far.
Last year's expedition returns, having gone to interesting places and killed the people they found there.
Seems we're traded Horse-Fuckers for orcs.
We do okay, probably would have been better with all available thanes.
For our second exploration, we come up with nothing.
The Blue Spruces come to us asking that we kill their chieftan, who's gone mad. Amusingly, this is also the new king of the Culbrea tribe. Killing him (or failing to) will have significant consequences.Problem is, this is still Sea season. Going raiding/going to war will wreck this year's harvest. Up to you: Yes or no to kingly assassination?
>>31227734Still lurking, just waiting for somethin' to happen.
>>31227809Dropped pic.>>31227812Sorry, cooking dinner at the same time.
>>31227821If only they'd waited.Tell them no.
I hope we hear more about this later.
It's now Fire season. Nothing much has changed, no injured or sick. Here's our tribe screen, for a change. We're going to be cursing the Greydogs, but what should our second action be? There are a few blessings left to learn.
In most games of KoDP Fire season is the exciting time where you do things to people for petty reasons. In this game that's Dark season. Not that we aren't attacking the Greydogs. Hope they like the taste of dust and tears.
Tracking is our first Odayla ritual, letting us recover stolen items and find our enemies.
This really doesn't get old.
Not that the Greydogs need a reason to hate us.
Hindala gets an event. Heroic Combat, Excellent Magic and Very Good Leadership.
>>31226505lol, wasnt the plan to try to get it done before march or something? I thought i'd missed it all when i took a break from 4chan :3
>>31228286Fight bravely, and weren't you automating this?
Hindala won the event and took a wound in doing so.>>31228302That was the plan yes, then I had a family emergency and got a really cool job offer in quick succession, so here we are.>>31228368I'd forgotten. I might do that going forward, it should speed things up.
Greydogs get sent packing. Very nice numbers.
There's an accusation of adultery against one of the men of our clan from his Mule Deer wife. How do we handle the situation?
>>31228410Ugly bitch. I hope she dies.
>>31228491We've got the magic but it's not worth spending on a trivial case like this. Go with 5.
We try to let the accusations slide, but the gods are watching.
Here's a critical path event: the leaders of the other two tribes want to profit from the town's prosperity, and are threatening to go to war over it. How do we reconcile them?
>>31228663I'd say #6.A new Clan Ring to resolve clan conflicts will be just the thing for these types of situations in the future, assuming that we staff them with representatives from each tribe.
And so peace was preserved.
>>31229515HOORAY FOR BUREAUCRACY!Wait... By all that is Orlanthi, what have we done?
Trollkin show up, make threats they aren't programmed to back up, leave. We've seen it all before.>>31229554Nothing that wasn't going to happen anyway.
Welcome to Earth season, that amazing time of year when food stocks go up instead of down.Since we're down to just 20 magic, we'll be sending someone out to collect a favor owed to us, asking for magic. Anything else we need to do? It'll be sacrificing for ritual learning if not.
We send Randella to collect on the favor owed us.
Then we learn Bless Children, not because we need more Ernalda blessings but because we need to do something.
From the Elkenval we receive three points of clan magic.
The Konthasos clan comes to ask us to revive their chief. They offer 50 cows in trade. What say we?
>>31230016Surely their beloved chief is worth more to them than 50 cows...
>>31230016#3. Time to earn favor points.
>>31230109I'll second this, we're paying magic.
We insisted on payment before delivery for a reason.
Can't think of why the blessings might have failed. Could be the adultery thing, we lost a bunch of magic for that.
Ahhh. I've been waiting for this. The Horse-Spawn appear in great numbers to threaten our town, but do not attack. What do we tell the interlopers?
>>31230280Make love not war, man.
>>31230280Propose marriage.I for one can hardly believe we're here.
And so is war avoided. We know what our prophecies say, does anyone know what prophecies the Grazers had? Serious question, I'm curious to know.
>>31230280Give her the dick
In Dark season we eat dog meat.>>31230491That's the plan. I forget, is the mountain involved as well?
>>31230543It matters not. All shall be given the dick.
Harvar's got a higher Magic skill than Combat, but that still gets him hurt in his battle event.
Not that it matters. We make off like bandits.
The Greydogs are refused the chance to surrender, choosing to hire Jenestni mercs.I love it.
This time the Greydogs manage to mount a slightly larger token defense.
>>31230804Fighting bravely fails Dangmag in his time of need.
We do almost as well as last time. I like to think the one warrior was killed when Dangmag fell on top of him.
>>31230880what a nignog
The troll traders are passing by again, and this time it's seasonally appropriate to raid them. What do we do with this knowledge?
>>31230972Raid the SHIT out of them.
This close to the endgame we don't DARE lose Elusu, so we send Hindala instead.
Much good loot is gained.
Diplomacy time. What is the FIRST THING Elusu tells the Feathered Horse Queen in his marriage talk?
>>31231274Follow advice.
>>31231274Definitely 3.
>>31231274>>31231357Second.
>>31231274Why did we START calling them that?
>>31231407'Cause they were kinda dicks before.
Having made that move, now it's time to give gifts. How much of each? We'll be skipping number 4, we've spent most of the game spiting them at every turn.>>31231407They claim descent from centaurs, I recall.
>>31231274From now on, we shall refer to them as pic related
>>31231494Dunno how many goods, but do NOT give cattle. In their culture cattle-rearing is a slave's activity.
>>31231494135 goods?
>>31231561Holy shit what is that?
>>31231593HORSECOCK!
>>31231593The reason why Garth Ennis is going to hell.
>>31231593The fuck do you think it looks like?
135 goods later, Elusu owns a horsehair bracelet.
>>31231675This the time to pop the question?
Time to pop the question. In return, she proposes a marriage contest. What say you?
>>31231691Sure, why not.
>>31231691What? This changes everything! We didn't know there had to be a contest when we proposed marriage! Now we can't do it! Reject it.Seriously though, we've already decided to go through with it, so accept the stupid terms.
>>31231691Accept terms.Stupid undefined prophecy.
Let the marriage games begin. This is the final event chain, and the longest in the game by far. Ready to become kings?
>>31231770We've been ready ever since our humble beginnings being shit on by every clan in Dragon Pass!
Time to meet the other contestants: One of them is the king of Tarsh, the other a neighbor from the Dundealos tribe. How does Elusu treat his rivals?>>31231808Made me laugh pretty good. We've come a long way haven't we?
When we saw the title "King of Dragon Pass" we didn't back down, thinking "we're not ready for this, it's too much," but instead we just clicked "New Game." We've been ready ever since.
>>31231835Assure them of a fair contest to demonstrate our kingly humility and grace!
>>31231835Ignore them. Do kings pay attention to peasants? No. Do we pay attention to these monkeys? No.
>>312318351
We can now be reasonably certain that these two won't try and screw us over once we start winning.>>31231924Whoops, sorry, was acting on the other one when I saw this.
Until recently the Grazers were Yelm worshipers, though it seems they now worship Ernalda. How do we convince the priests of Maran Gor to let us know the contest's trials?
>>31232037Give her a treasure?
>>31232086Nah, that's bribery. Scold her. Go with 5.
>>31232037We've got the earthquake rock right? She knows we're down with Maran Gor. 4.
CAN YOU PLEASE LABEL YOUR THREADS AS QUESTS SO THE FILTERS CAN GET THEMTHANK YOU
>>31232150I'd say they're more of Let's Plays than Quest Threads.
Rolled 1Three way split? We'll let Eurmal have his due.>>31232150>King of Dragon Pass>questI suspect you are in error anon.
>>31232187They're the same thing to those who aren't playing them.Just keep it in mind for next thread
Elusu gives her the Tiger's Eye Necklace, as the clan had a spare.Hey look, there was a mountain involved.
>>31232206Fuck off, keep that in mind for next thread.>>31232037Damn, a bit too late to pitch in.
>>31232248You don't think it's fair to label your quest thread like any other so that people who don't want to see them can filter accordingly?
>>31232150These are not quest threads dipshit. If you're going to decry quests make sure you know what a quest thread actually is.
>>31232271Leave the thread and add its name to your faggot filter.
>>31232278How is this different?
>>31232278What's the difference? I actually want to know.
>>31232292quest threads involve somebody making up a system wholesale, this is just playing an already-existing RPG
To top off the joy of hitting the endgame, the Greydogs try to surrender again. We tell them to take a hike, so they hire bandits to protect themselves.
>>31232292>>31232304This is a Let's Play of a video game based on a roleplaying game.Quest threads are dens of writefaggotry in which dice are sometimes rolled but they are mostly freeform discussions without a game system. There's no underlying system. For that matter, fecht threads are threads where we play an actual RPG system, usually in 1v1 combat.
>>31232373Oh those Greydogs, defiant to the end of their pitiful existence.
>>31232411sorta enjoy them being with us for so long tbh
That was a long event chain. We're now in Storm season, so we'll take one action before the yearly heroquest. Unless there's another suggestion, I'm thinking we should feast, and then perform either Orlanth and Aroka or the Making of the Storm Tribe.
>>31232457This seems appropriate both mechanically and thematically speaking. Possibly Making of the Storm Tribe for the quest?
I kinda miss Onelisin's elf-hate, but Hindala's marriage mindedness is amusing. A very different Vingan.
The trolls try and gate crash the party.
Hengall's Renowned Combat is all that saves him from a troll's demons.
More of them than us died, I guess that's all I can really ask for.
Hindala will be our Orlanth for The Making of the Storm Tribe. We're choosing option 7, improving all nobles's Leadership ability.
Quest success.
It seems we're popular.
And that's the year. I think we've just got two left. This is a good stopping point, but I'm more than happy to keep going. Any preferences?
>>31232772If we keep on keeping on, could we win this in this thread?
>>31232811We've got like 150 posts left before autosage, and then another 150 after that before we fall off the board, so yeah.
>>31232830Image limit would come into play, though. Nonetheless, I'm feeling good about this. Let's at least go another year.
>>31232830>>31232811It's entirely possible, but maybe not with 70 image posts left. Certainly willing to try, though I might have to cut posts where nothing's going on.Give me a moment and we'll get back to it.
Here are the year's omens. Orlanth's Rain blessing cancels out the drought warning, so we've nothing to worry about there.
Randella reaches Heroic bargaining in a timely fashion. For this year's actions, unless something happens that requires action I'm just going to learn as many blessings as possible.
>>31233085seems like a good plan
Friend of Yinkin lowers the rate of food spoilage. Our event is, perhaps appropriately, an attack by Valind's ice demons. What do we do in response?Or rather how many people do we send to fight them, I know what you're going to choose.
>>31233145Send all but one, as usual.
>>3123314515 Weaponthanes!
>>31233279Yup
Two of our thanes fail to return. We earn four magic.
Sureshot improves the damage dealt by skirmishers and the skirmish battle command.
Clan Lore prevents clan events from negatively effecting morale. The ducks say that four of their people were killed by our nobles, and demand compensation--80 goods in total. What do we tell or give them? All they demand? Nothing?
>>31233406Give them the full wergild they are asking for.
>>31233406>we have several thousand>they ask for 80Pfft. Do we even notice the loss?
It's really a pity we didn't get the other duck events.
I thought we'd already learned the secrets of Ernalda, guess not.And then Smaug himself starts burning down the Fire Quartz tula. How does Elusu deal with the awoken dragon? Keep in mind, we're not dragonfriends.
>>31233553It would've been nice to see if we could've tried to formally inducted the Ducks into the tribe.
>>31233635Tell it a new time has come. Our kingdom will not repeat the mistakes of the Empire of the Wyrms Friends. No, it'll get smashed by the Lunars in a few hundred years.
Approaching the dragon alone induces it to treat Elusu the way a puppy might treat a favored toy.Potentially demeaning? Sure, but it still means CHALLENGE CLEAR.
Who knew we didn't have all of The Making of the Storm Tribe? Here's an odd event: One of our women stands accused of spreading disease magic. Orlgard offers up that she's not been the same since her stead burnt down. What do we do with her?
Holy shit Heortson, I thought we'd lost you to the Godrealm.*reading up*
>>31233809Hrm. We could try a divination to see if the ancestors have caught witness.
Seems pretty cut and dry. Death penalty?
>>31233890Burn the witch!and hope she is not a powerful priestess
There's something wrong with me, I imagine the scene playing out in TF2, with the Scout as the weaponthane.
>>31233951BONK
Holy shit, this didn't just disappear into the ether after all?
Wait, we completed Elmal without knowing its secrets? Elusu is a god.The Brass Man is sighted in the nearby mountains. How do we approach him and the situation?Randella, stop reading the Rune Quest sourcebook.
>>31234013Have we a treasure to trade away?
>>31234013wable gable2am... need to sleep lol
>>31234013Divination first you fool.
>>31234013Send with treasure>stay at homelol
We'll divine first, then send a treasure. Here's a useful warning to any would-be king.>>31234026Yeah, this one. Not very useful, and we can get another easily.>>31233812>>31234003Had a busy March. Glad we can finish today, the next few months might be busier yet if I get this job.Sorry for the delay, accidentally closed the game. Nothing lost, praise Eurmal.
Gloranthan dwarves are hysterial.Second challenge, COMPLETE.
This gets us all of Elmal's blessings. Horsefriend's the worst of them though.
The carls are always getting us in trouble. One of ours went hunting in Gorind territory, and the Gorinds are responding poorly. What do we tell them?
>>31234230Give them 7 cows and never speak of this again. We've a kingdom to forge.
>>31234230COME ON HEORTSONCOMPENSATE THEM ALREADY, WE GOT A MOUNTAIN TO PLEASURE
They actually had the audacity to say seven of our malnourished cows weren't good enough. We gave them three more just to shut them up.
This might be the first time we've had a sacrifice fail all game.We were attacked by the trolls, and I shit you not, we outnumbered them by over two to one. Here are the results.
>>31234355Pic.
Twice in a row? Do the odds of success go down the more often you sacrifice in a year? This year we'll do Ernalda to get back the treasure given to the dwarf.
I know you've been waiting for this: Elusu has to prove his worthiness to be king by fucking a mountain. What does he do to prepare?
>>31234407Divine that rockpile. Find out how to rock her world.
>>31234407That is a good fucking question.I'm leaning towards seclusion.
Wow. He's actually going to impregnate a mountain. And Orlanth's mom, to boot.Wait does that mean Elusu is Orlanth's new dad? After his seclusion he sets off with half our count of thanes.
He actually did it.I'm amazed the dead carls didn't fuck everything up for the sake of fucking everything up for us one last time.
Hey, this means we're the Kings of Dragon Pass now. Or will be in Earth season. What does Elusu say to the Feathered Horse Queen, marking the momentous occasion that is us winning the game?
>>312345614.Damn, Elusu was just. Such a great leader. Never thought he'd live to be King when he was first revealed.
>>312345615 is always a classic, but personally I like 2.
>>312345615.I don't fucking care.FIVE.
I was originally going to let Eurmal choose, but I couldn't resist.
We run Ernalda Feeds the Tribe again, and recover the Jar of Ernalda's Earth.
>>31234655LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLLOLOLLL
And that's the year. Hard to believe this is it.We'll move along quickly, there's not much left.
The gods can stuff their bad harvest omens, we're ignoring them outright.
Hindala just barely manages to hit Heroic Combat.
We've managed to learn every ritual.
We've got some sick people, so I'll go ahead and cure them.
The Old Owls show up and demand three magic. Eh, whatever.
Aw shit we're close.WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS NIGGERS
In Fire season, we feast, and I wonder how we have six sick people again after just getting healed.
>>31234815Probably hangovers.
Did I stutter? I said in Fire season, we feast.>>31234823That explains it.
Right after the feast but before we go to the wedding we get a free weaponthane.
I always knew Elusu had it in him to be a god.And that's the game.
>>31234874YAYY!!!THANKS HEAORTSON!!
>>31234874WHOO!Epic fun, this series of threads was. In some ways this was more interesting than the Runic Men run; we ran into quite a bit more hardship than they did.
Okay so a bunch of really cool watercolor art pieces go by in a slideshow at the end. I'm going to grab a random sampling just to have them.
>>31234953I swear to god I fixed that one. Oh well.
>>31234930Such is the nature of the game. Like its spiritual descendant Crusader Kings you have runs where all goes right and runs where everything that can go wrong does. Most are somewhere in the middle, as this one was.
The game exports a copy of the in-game clan history document to notepad every time you save your game. I was considering uploading it to my pastebin account, but anyone who wants to see how the game went can check the archive where it'll have pictures and reactions. That's a much better use of bandwidth.
>>31234999Wait, is KoDP a Paradox game? That would explain so fucking much...
>>31234561Hopefully, the mountain will not get jealous now that Elusu is giving the D to the Feather Queen. Also, >Elusu, naked, stumbling around a cave, looking for a comfy crack in the rock to dick
>>31234999Dwarf city? Also, you know you have it made when Immortal dragons come to see your wedding.
>>31235086>Walks into the cave all tall and proud>Time to become as a god>Ok so I just>Maybe I dig a little hole in the dirt?>Or that crevice may- NOPE there's a snake in that one>This is gonna be more difficult than the dragon...
I've watched the slideshow three times now, those were the best of the pics.>>31235074Wouldn't it just? As it happens there's no relation that I know. Very similar kinds of games, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that CK was inspired by KoDP.Thank you to everyone reading this, everyone who'll read this in the archives, and to those of you who left midway through. You made this the experience it was, and I'm glad I was able to see you through to success, and introduce some of you to the game. I've had a wonderful time and I hope you all did as well.If you happen to be playing the game in the future and find yourself with a question, feel free to ask me via Twitter (@WatashiwaOnline) as I can't promise I'll always be on /tg/ to answer. Of course the board can always use more KoDP threads so you might see me in the next one.I hope to see you again sometime. If only there were another Viking themed game with strong reactivity to the player's choices and actions....Well, we'll see about that.
>>31235146There's always Rune, or The Banner Saga.
>>31235041Look at that face! I'm just imagining miles under the earth a sexy demon giving a blowjob to his rocky dong.
>>31235146>>31235169Derp, I read it too quickly and didn't initially catch the sarcasm.
>>31235146hohoh, wouldnt mind a Banner Saga /tg/ thread tbh.See how busy your work is though! Thanks again~
>>31235133Sir, I laughed. >>31235146Thank you, Heortson! I really liked it. The last thread I read was about 80 days ago I thought the game was already over... and here I am, reading the game over thread! Yay!Orstalor and Elusu will be remembered.>>31235181I'm not catching it even now. Heortson should definitely prowl GOG for anything else playable. In May, once the new job gets lets intense.
>>31235181>>31235195Wata's been talking about CK2 a lot recently, which is funny since I don't think he's ever played it. I know he's got Banner Saga from the Kickstarter, so we might just see it in a month or three.
I missed the last 2 threads, but work was slow just in time to see this one unfold. This was a great playthrough.
