You exit the large house together with Annalise after she spends few minutes healing the wounds her cloister inflicted upon you. The men outside quickly usher you through a series of alleys and finally you return to the old church where Pietra and her troops make base. The men you freed from the prison are already hard at word clearing the pews away to make room for training space, practicing with stick-swords and whatever may serve as a substitute for true training equipment. Annalise has a seat near the podium while Pietra addresses you.

"I see you found her. Why you'd bother pulling a dirty mouse out of its hole before someone like that Ranger is beyond me, but oh well. Speaking of, we've got an update. The fat ones have become rather displeased with his antics, and have begun mobilizing armored infantry to seize him. Fortunately, he's somehow got his hands on a bow. Three men are dead already with arrows jammed into their eye slots, so he's back to a stalemate. Oh, and your mage friend seems to have made some headway on his wounds."

I'm going to go liberate some supplies from the town guard, but I guess I don't need a lot of extra hands for it...Tell you what, since your little buddy is back and in one piece, let me take her along. You decide to let Leon hold his own for a while longer, and help Pietra with her own business, rather than risk Annalise so soon. You give her leave to rest, and she does so happily.

A few minutes later, Pietra and some of her men have brought you to a stone building, where she says the guards house their forge. Inside are racks upon racks of brand new armor and weapons, ripe for the taking.

"Here's the plan. I can pop the lock off of that door in a few seconds, and me and my boys can loot the place fairly quickly, but I need you to draw attention again. I should warn you, this time they won't be content to let you off with a few bruises. This is a non-civilian area. If you're spotted, they'll aim to kill you on sight. Sound alright with you?

You agree, and Pietra smiles coyly. She motions for a few of her men to form up on you, and points you toward the main gate. You march toward the building with your alloted troops. The guards watching over the forge are startled at first, watching to see what you do. Then, you draw steel and your men begin hurling their weapons, taking the guards by surprise. As you rush in, the guards are hit by the volley of knives, distracting them if not bleeding them. When you reach, you are able to chop down two of them with one swing, leaving a few left. One of them begins shouting, you think calling for help, and your men come in to assist you.

You begin swinging wide and intimidating your enemies, and your men seem to follow suit. More guards come soon, but most are hesitant to enter the fray with you and yours screaming bloody murder and wildly flailing weapons about. You are forced to cut down a few guards who seem to catch on to the ruse, but in all only eight men are fallen by the time the signal flare is sent up. Your men drop their smoke, and you are able to escape just as before.

When you make it back to the church, Pietra's men begin to cheer your success. Many of them approach and embrace you as friendly as if you'd known each other for years. They speak words you do not understand, but they seem happy enough. Pietra herself congratulates you, once again pressing her chest against yours in a slightly too generous way. You ask about Annalise, and Pietra coldly informs you that she has fallen asleep in another room. She begins to mention Maurice, when the church door opens. Through it steps a scraggly man in dirty robes with bare feet and bloodstains beneath his mouth.

"And a good afternoon to you, sir. After a bit of tinkering with this and that, I believe my mouth, while dry, is back up to working order." He smiles and begins approaching you.

Leon is still pinned down, and now you have access to Maurice again. Annalise is resting, but you could wake her if need be.

You decide to head out to find Leon now. Pietra agrees to help you, but Maurice elects to stay behind for now, stating a desire to meditate on a few things. With that, you head off.

Just as you were told, Leon seems to be holed up at the top of a tower, defending himself from the city guard at a distance. At the base of the tower is a mass of at least two dozen bodies, all freshly dead, and three of which are in full armor. There are also guards stationed around the area, hiding just out of the line of sight of the tower. Pietra brings you to a rooftop where you have a better look, but warns you that peeking out might spook Leon into attacking.

"I'd be able to scale the tower alone, but he wouldn't trust me. You'd never make it in all that armor. So our best bet is to draw the guards' attention while you get up there. I don't mind being the decoy this time. That alright with you?"

"Oho! I like that. You really do know what to say to a lady. Fine, let's get down there and start some trouble." Pietra leads you back down to the ground floor, and you meet with a handful of her men. Together you make your way behind the line of guards.

There are around twenty men in total, compared to your five. Five of them are armored, though not as well as you, and carrying axes. The rest are only armed with spear and round shield. Pietra asks how you plan to divide them.

One of Pietra's men shouts something back that seems to confuse them, but hell breaks loose a moment later when one of them seems to realize something, and they begin forming up for a fight. Seeing it as your best chance, you begin charging at the line toward the armored guards. Pietra and hers do the same. Two of the armored guards rush to meet you with a battle cry.

You bare your sword and meet them head on. The clashing of metal rings out throughout the street, echoing off of sandstone walls. The two guards are taken aback by your raw strength, sliding them back a few inches upon impact with their axes. The remaining armored men seem split between helping to assault you, or going to fight off Pietra who has already engaged the unarmored troops. You are able to glance over and see her disarming a man and using his own spear to skewer him and use him as a shield while her men clash with the others.

You begin shouting and taunting the armored undecided guards, even as two of them try to push you back. Though they clearly don't understand you, they do seem worried about you, and approach to help their comrades. Now the fight is four on one, and they begin to shove you back with pure strength against your weight. Pietra by now is busy suffocating a man with what looks to be wire, so help from her is out of the question. You are left with a few options.

This works for a time, but soon you find yourself against a literal wall. Though they are unable to surround you now, you have little room from which to launch your counter-attack. They begin harassing you with blows from both sides, forcing you to go on the defensive.

Your own injury is less than a scratch by comparison. This leaves you with but one enemy left, as Pietra and her men work on the last three guards. He stands firm with his axe ready, but you can see the hint of doubt in his eye.

By the time he does, Pietra has already pulled a knife out of the back of the last unarmored guard, leaving the death count at seventeen and injuries at three. All that taken care of, she slides her knife home and approaches you.

"Seems like your friend got quite a show. Didn't even bother loosing an arrow to help. Oh well. Go on up, we'll keep an eye on the square for you. Make it quick, I don't know how long before they send reinforcements."

You begin making your way toward the tower, Leon's nest. The door up is jammed shut, but nothing a little bit of force and a heavy sword can't fix. After clearing away the barricade, you find a ladder. Leon must be chuckling now, knowing that ladder and heavy plate don't mix. You grab a hold of a rung and start climbing.

When you finally reach the top, you are greeted by a platform covered in five or six bodies, all soaked in now drying blood. Just a little further away is a door. You call to Leon, announcing yourself, and proceed through. The place you emerge into smells foul, like blood and bile. There are even more corpses here, shoved against the wall. You notice that they each have a bow save for one, and all carry empty quivers. A little further on is Leon himself, drenched in red with a small bundle of arrows beside him, a small flask of wine, and a large knife stuck in the ground beside a lot of tally marks. He sits against the wall beneath a window, and smiles weakly at you.

"Well it's about fucking time, I'm half out of ammunition and booze. What took you so long? Busy plowing the field, or just thought I needed a short vacation? Gods man."

You tell Leon about Pietra, reminding him of your first meeting when she tried to rob Annalise over five years ago, as well as your job guarding her before being transported. He listens with all the attentiveness of a dog, in that he makes eye contact and nods at the appropriate times, but you can sense a constant hunger for food and sleep behind his eyes. Once you're done, he stands.

"Well, that's all fine and good then. I just want to wash my cloak and get something hot to eat, so if it's in a den of thieves or coyotes makes no difference to me." You stifle a laugh and the two of you slide down the ladder together.

You make your way back to base with Pietra and her men. When you get back, Leon orders a bottle and a bath before reclining in one of the cleared away pews and putting his feet up. Maurice is nowhere to be seen, nor is Annalise. Pietra dismisses her men, and comes over to speak to you again.

"I really can't thank you enough, though I am open to suggestions. With all this done we'll have a much easier time overthrowing those fat, greedy bastards. Listen, I know you have plans elsewhere but don't you think you can stay a while longer? It's really nice having you around, and with all of you this fight will be a cakewalk." Nothing I can think of.

You listen as the others converse about this and that. At one point, one of Pietra's men is kind enough to bring you a bowl, and you eat. Soon, you notice Annalise standing and leaving the dinning hall. She seems to have not noticed any of you. You are brought back to the conversation by Maurice.

"Sir, after a bit of meditation, I think I may have some insight to the cards I've previously found no use for. While I'm still unable to recreate number thirteen, I have been able to make copies of number six. I trust you still have yours?" You confirm this, and Maurice proceeds to pull another copy of the card from his robes. "Thusly so, sir. Ahem. Show me Leon, the Ranger." Maurice speaks to the card, and it burns in blue flame. Leon watches even more intently than you. Once the flame dies out, Maurice smiles and shows you the card. The face, once heart-shaped tree with two people in it's branches, has become the visage of Leon. Not only this, but you can see the dinning hall around him.

"The image will fade after a time, but it seems to work with all of you when I try. I'm not sure exactly what the rules are, but it does not work for Pietra or her men. At least not for me."

You excuse yourself from the table, surprising the others a bit, and go off to meet Annalise. You follow her out of the dinning hall, but see no sign of her. You check the room, but she isn't there. You continue to search the base until you find her kneeling behind the podium with her holy symbol. She seems to be praying.

You approach Annalise and kneel beside her. Kneeling in armor is expectedly rough on the knees, but you endure as you place your fists together and begin praying alongside her. The two of you silently worship beside each other for quite some time.

"Were you not going to tell me about Pietra?" Annalise's voice is cold and blunt.

A) "What do you mean?"
B) "I didn't think it was important."

You calmly respond, telling Annalise that there never was anything between you, at least not from your side. She keeps her eyes closed. You kneel a while longer.

"But you weren't going to tell me. Did you think I wouldn't be able to handle it, or are you just in the business of keeping secrets?"

You counter Annalise's jab. This actually seems to hit her fairly hard. She bows her head lower and takes a deep breath.

"I'm not angry at you. I believe you when you say it didn't mean anything, and it's not like I was in a rush to do those sorts of things. I just wish you'd told me. No, that's not true either. The truth is I'm jealous. I don't like thinking about you with someone else. And what's worse is that that makes me selfish and I know it. But I can't help it." Annalise stands, tucking away her symbol. "I'm sorry for doing that. I just didn't really know how to confront it."

A) "It's alright, I don't blame you."

Your words seem to ease Annalise's worry, at least somewhat. She smiles and looks down at her folded hands.

"You've always been so nice to me. It's funny, I came here expecting you to get mad. I spent all morning thinking about what I'd say when you started shouting, and worrying about what might happen when I brought it up. But you just damped me out. What did I ever do, to get stuck with a pile of muscle and sugar like you?"

A) "There's also some bone in there."

"No, of course not. I told you, as much as thinking about you with another girl makes me upset, it's not like I'd forbid you. I want you to be happy more than anything, and if that means someone else gets to make kisses with you, then..." Annalise trails off. You can see her visibly choking up. You think of speaking up, but Annalise cuts you off before you can even begin. "I mean, I understand why you'd like Pietra. She's more clever than me, for sure. And she has a better figure, and she's really funny, and she's confident and everyone respects her. I'm just a runt. So if you did like her more than me, I wouldn't be mad..." She crosses her arms and looks down at the floor.

You stand and begin listing off all the things you like about Annalise, beginning at her looks and ended at her personality. Each item you tick off turns her face more and more red. Eventually she puts her hands up to cover her face, and at the very end she has buried her face in your chest. You wrap both arms around her and kiss the top of her head.

"I-I'm sorry for being jealous. I really don't...ohhh. It feels really warm in here right now. I don't...I wish we weren't leaving today. I really want to be together for a little while longer."

You comfort her as best you can. Annalise responds by gently tapping her forehead on your breastplate. Eventually the others find you and begin approaching. They both seem well rested and energetic.

"Right then, Maurice and I are ready and raring to go. Pietra says our horses are fed and watered, and her boy is willing to take us when we want to go. You guys set to hit the road, or should we leave you to rub noses a while longer?"

After the aforementioned nose rubbing, which may or may not have lead smoothly into pecking and cooing, you meet the others outside near the horses. Pedro, Raymon and Nero all appear in as fine condition as you left them. Annalise finds Pedro's brush and gives him a bit of a smoothing out, while Pietra taps you on the shoulder.

"Hey. Look, can I talk to you in private for just a minute?"

A) "Okay."

Pietra flinches. She seems to be at a loss for words, and resorts to simple shutting her eyes and taking a deep breath. She crosses her arms and diverts her gaze down at a rock on the ground.

"Right, sorry. Good luck then." She turns away and heads back inside, shoulders hunched. Annalise approaches and asks what happened, and you tell her it was nothing important. The four of you mount up and one of Pietra's men leads you out of the small fenced area behind the church and into the busy street. You follow him for a couple of hours, slow and discreet, until you reach the gate of the city. There, he stops and pulls down his mask.

"Here, I am to stop. North, to the fortress of sand men. They are your ally. Be caution of snake and sun. Do you know this?"

Maurice speaks to the man in his native tongue, and relays the message. Between here and the fort, there are known to be viper nests. Should you stay ahorse, they will likely ignore you. And the sun is an ever present danger, but not for either you or Annalise.

What that, you thank the man and he heads back to Pietra. The four of you set off from the gate, slowly at first, and then picking up speed. You hit a good gallop soon, and point yourselves north, toward the Desert Ranger's Fort, and the last totem.
