You wake with a start, your mind clouded. You’re lying down. You try to get up, to raise your head and look around.

You rise too quickly, and your head slams into something solid. It vibrates from the impact, giving off the telltale low clang of struck metal. You bounce back onto the object that you are lying on. It’s not that soft either. In your attempt to rise, you notice that your arms and legs are restrained.

You lie there, groaning, waiting for the pain in your forehead to subside. With the pain leaves the fogginess of your thoughts. You wonder where you are. The room is shaking steadily and you can hear a low rumble that you’d attribute to an engine, or several. You’re in some kind of vehicle, possibly a ship. Your thoughts are interrupted by footsteps, coming from behind you, on the right.

“Do mind your head.” A voice, you assume from the same person producing the footsteps.
(cont.)
>>
The voice is unmistakably male, deep with a gruffness you associate with having smoked one too many lho-sticks.

“Wouldn’t want a promising new student, especially with our intake dropping in recent cycles.” The footsteps and voice advance together, confirming your earlier assumption. A hand enters your field of vision. You’d been staring at the metal bulkhead above you, avoiding looking in the direction of the voice.

The hand grabs your chin and turns it to the right, towards its owner. Staring back at you are a pair of bright blue eyes, the man’s face framed by a beard and hair the color of snow.

Past him, you see other berths similar to your own, housing the unconscious forms of children. They are clothed in simple black undergarments and restrained as well. The man with blue eyes himself is clothed the black robes of a preacher of the Ecclesiarchy.

The man releases your chin, satisfied that you have no bruise from hitting your head. You look down at yourself and find that like the sleepers you are also wearing tight black shorts,:

Your berth seems to be the furthest up in the room, closest to where the preacher entered from. You look behind him to see a thick metal door, lacking hinges, the type you’d see on a spacecraft. Further evidence towards the fact that you are on a ship.

“W-who are you, why am I here, and why the hell am I tied down like this? And you said something about being a student?” You pull at your restraints.
The preacher is crouched down so that his face is nearly level with yours. His eyes unsettle you, so you try not to look directly at him. You can smell smoke on his breath.

He brushes a few strands from your face, then rests his hand on his face. He taps his nose twice, and his eye twitches at your coarse language.

“I am Abbott Gelus, and you shall be seeing me quite often from now on. You, my child, are to be my new student, and I shall raise you to be a shining beacon for the Imperium. You, in simpler words, will be taught to be a hero. The restraints of course, are for insurance. Are all your questions answered?”

He reaches into his robe a produces a lho-stick, then again for a light. Failing to find something to produce a flame, he gets up and pounds on the door. It promptly opens. The rumble of the supposed engines becomes a roar.

“Would either of you gentlemen happen to have a light?”

A muffled voice answers him, but you’re unable to understand it over the noise. Then, a pop, and you can make out another male voice.

“Sorry sir, though we’re half an hour to atmo.”

So you are on a ship. Landing soon, apparently.

“Bah, protocol. When a man needs a smoke, he needs a smoke, flight protocol be damned.” He shuts the door and crouches back down next to you.

“Well, do you have any more questions before I put you back to sleep?” He reaches once more into his robe and produces a hypodermic needle full of clear liquid. A drop spills from the tip and falls to the floor.

“Take me back, I don’t want to be here. Don’t you know who I am?”, you say. You push again against your restraints, nostrils flaring, demanding more than asking.

System is as follows(mix between Dark Heresy and dicepool system currently in use by Exalted Quest):

Attributes:
Weapons-1
Ballistics-1
Strength-1
Toughness-1
Agility-1
Intelligence-1
Perception-1
Willpower-1
Leadership-1
Fellowship-1

Status:
Patronage-
Insanity-
Corruption-
Wealth-

[Military Heritage: +2 to Weapons, Ballistics, Leadership.]

You should also get Patronage and Wealth bonuses, but still working out how exactly the Status stuff is supposed to work. Also still thinking on the health system.

In the future, when choosing certain actions, you will roll 1d10 in a dicepool on the associated attribute. The value of the attribute determines the size of the dicepool Rolling 7 or higher is counted as a success, 10 is 2 successes. You need to roll a certain number of successes depending on the difficulty of the action. You will critically fail an action if you roll no successes and at least one 1.

But for now, you won't need too many rolls. Your pools are too small for that. The next few sessions will be dedicated to your time training at the Schola.

In the meantime, decide on a name, appearance, and the first roll of 2d100 will determine homeworld.

>>
>>31196205
Dice Check, essentially you set a number as the DC, and you have to beat it to succeed, in the current system you've proposed, the DC would be 7 constantly, I was just saying, you might want to sometimes move that up or down if you wanted.

Oh true.
Personally I justify it to myself as humanity altering itself during the DAoT and the first ships not landing on their planet's equatorial zone. Less sun = less need for the typical attributes of the darker "races". Of course, conversely there have to be worlds that are nothing BUT Blacks cause the orbit is closer to the sun.
>please, we're gonna be an awesome brown girl stormtrooper with a shortsword, or maybe even a powered shortsword if we're lucky

“Yes child, I do know exactly who you are,” Gelus says, reaching deep into his robe to draw out a datapad. “Evangeline de Feuntes, excuse me, Lady Evangeline of the noble House Feuntes of Alamos Prime. 12 years old, eldest child and would-be heir, if not for her newly-born brother. Born from a long line of Imperial Guard commanders famous for fighting on the front lines with their troops in numerous campaigns. Truly an old and honorable noble family.”

You grit your teeth at that last little detail of your loss of inheritance of the peerage.

“So you know who I am, and therefore you should know what retribution shall come if I am taken illegally against my will,” you say to him as he stows the datapad back in his priestly robe.

“Against your wil, yes, illegally, no. Your parents are both dead. Your father was killed in action, that is. It is y understanding that your mother died in childbirth just last year. Your siblings are perfectly fine. of course.” You turn away from him, not wanting to cry in front of a stranger. The pain of your mother’s death was still fresh, and the news of your father’s death compounded upon it.

Your father and his regiment, newly victorious, were home on leave until last year. He had left for a new campaign with your mother pregnant. He’d come home when your were six years old, and immediately began to teach you the ways of war as was customary. After your mother’s death, you and your siblings had been left in the care of retainers and relatives. You had been made to relinquish the hereditary peerage to your newborn brother.

You know what the rest of the story was now.

In accordance with the Charter Nobilis of Alamos Prime, since you were newly orphaned, you would be given up to the Ecclesiarchy for schooling at the Schola Progenium as the eldest non-heir child of your family. Such was the law.

You look toward the priest, and he nods, knowing he’s reached an understanding between the two of you.

“Now child, relax your arm so the needle doesn’t hurt. I have to put you to sleep before we make planetfall.”

>Give in. Let him put you to sleep.
>Convince him to leave you awake (restraints on/off)
>Ask him to let you get up. You’ve never been off Alamos Prime before, you’d like to watch the ship make planetfall.

Yeah, I thought so, kinda lame choice on that one, sorry. Just kinda had to throw in a choice in there after quite a bit of infodump. Writing.
>>
>>31196658
Not that lame. Use it to build our character.
>>
“Wait, stop,” you say. You try to pull away from him, but again, the restraints stop you. “Please let me get up. I’ve never been off of Alamos Prime before. I’ve never seen planetfall.”

Abbott Gelus hesitates, the needles just an inch from your arm. He looks at you in the eyes curiously. His eyes still bother you, and you turn away from him to the look at the metal bulkhead. He puts away the syringe.

“Well, child. I guess I shall. I have after all, given you some horrible news. Let it not be said that I am not a kind priest.” He whistles, and you hear another door open. A servitor mounted on tracks rumbles over and stops next to Gelus, waiting for an order.

“Servitor. Release progena designated SP-LT-P-087-EF. Recognize voice authorization, Drill Abbot Coriolanus Gelus, designation SP-LT-DA-001-CG.” He grimaces after reciting the strings of letters and numbers.

“Recognized.” The servitor turns towards you and, using a power tool you couldn’t name, releases you from your restraints, which seem to have been bolted to the berth. Finished, it turns to Gelus, waits for a moment as if waiting for further orders, then turns around and returns to wherever it came from. You hear a door clunk open and closed again.

“Servitors and tech-speak, hate the damn things. But the restraints I’m made to use aren’t that easy to take off manually” He spits on the floor, then looks around as if he were looking for people watching. The only other people in the room are asleep. He rubs his shoe over the spit until it rubs away.

You get up, rubbing your wrists and ankles. The metal floor is cold under your bare feet.

“I’d have to agree,” you say. “My family preferred to keep living retainers instead of cold machines.”
>>
>>31196873
“Now,” he says, his voice taking a harder tone, “I’ll let you sit up with me up the cockpit, but don’t cause any trouble.”

He knocks once more on the door, and it slides open with a loud thud. The cockpit is full of little lights, but your attention is drawn to the front viewports. The planet below is largely the light brown of desert, with large patches of blue and dark green that you recognize as water and forests respectively

The cockpit seats four, two already taken by the pilot and copilot. The pilot and copilot seem oblivious to the world, plugged into the consoles, wires coming out of their heads and into their chairs. Gelus motions you to take a seat, and does so himself. He buckles himself into the 4-point restraint.

>Sit tight like a good girl and just watch.
>Go up further near the pilots, get a closer look out the viewports
>Attack Gelus, try to get the sedative and knock him out
