That thing is firing something, all right. ITSELF.

It screams into view with the fury of a thousand shitty Russian diesel engines. A thousand spluttering diesel engines, coming to life. By the farts of Comrade Stalin, it's louder than anything you've ever heard.

It is also unlike anything you've ever seen, too. It's a giant plane wing with a glass thingy in the center. And what appears to be fire coming out from behind it. Yes, screaming fire from behind.

And it's barrelling straight for Ekaterina at a speed you've never thought possible. Shit, you gotta your best friend and wingmate. You know how witches don't take too kindly to midair collisions.

A thing that fast can't be all that armored, right? You tax the engines on your strikers trying to keep up with it.

How is this thing so fast? It's impossible to chase this thing! At least it's moving in a straight line. At least aiming isn't an issue...

The ShkaS roars into life as you fire a burst at the thing. It absorbs the shots as if it was nothing.

And then it plows into Eka. Like, really hard.

You can only stare in horrified shock as she gets taken for a ride. Or something. It's not pretty.

You rush to save her (or what is left of her). It's not a pretty sight.

And that's when you see something... unexpected. It's coming back for you.

A plane moving that fast can't possibly turn without breaking up, right? And you've got Eka in your hands. She doesn't look too good.

You quickly decide to jink to the left at the last possible moment. You can't be too sure if this'll work, considering your speed, but if it can withstand small arms fire...

It's a bit too late for second thoughts. The giant wing looms into view as you stare at it defiantly, Eka in a princess carry. You wait for the very last second. It comes, but you hold steady until it's too close for comfort.

Your timing is a bit off. Maybe it's because of the extra weight, or maybe you're a little too focused on the looming threat in front of you, but you get clipped by the plane as you dodge. It isn't too big of an issue though; you put up your shields in time.

"Lanzhou Airbase, this is Patrol flight! We have an unidentified bandit! It's moving at high speed at possibly coming towards you! Flight is down one and we're retreating!" Incredulity fills your headset as the air traffic controllers on duty sputter in disbelief at your report.

A grim sight awaits the ground crew as you land. You, landing with an injured witch. It's a bit depressing, considering that this was supposed to be a routine trip. Your wingmate is quickly transported to the infirmary.

You still have to file those reports. Eka's not gonna be out of there for a while. Taking a plane to the gut does that to people.

Eka's a dear friend. Her getting hurt was partially your responsibility. You really want to be there for her if and when she comes out of the infirmary, but the sight of a commissar makes you reconsider. That and his always loaded PPsH. No witch has been executed for disobeying orders, and you're pretty damn sure that you don't want to be the first. Not in his presence, anyway.

You forcefully tear yourself away from your friend and make to the HQ. You're pretty late for the debriefing. You're a bit scared.

"Come in. You're late." A gruff, gravelly voice beckons you. It sends chills down your spine.

You enter a sparse office room. The lack of decoration doesn't scare you, though. It's the man standing behind the desk that does it.

"Colonel Chuikov, I-" you start to explain, but you're cut off.

"At around 0530 local time, you and another witch saw an unidentified flying object, right? Said object managed to... shoot down the other witch that was with you, forcing you to retreat? Is this correct?" You nod.

"There were no identification marks on this flying object, and it was firing... red light at the both of you?" you nod again.

"You shot at the object, but it was unfazed by your fire. After that, it hit the other witch and the both of you barely managed to escape?" you can't help but nod.

"That will be all. Remember your duty above all." He motions to the door. You leave.

With that done, you rush to the infirmary. Who knows what Ekaterina might come out.

No one actually reads SWQ China anyway, and it's kinda hard to keep this up when planefag's not around.

And until planefag comes back, I'll mothball this and run it on SPECIAL OCCASIONS.
